Thoughts For Thursday

Does your character have a favourite photograph?

Write a piece describing your character’s favourite photograph and the thoughts, feelings and memories associated with it.

Here are some things to consider:

Who or what is in the picture?

Who took the picture?

How old is it?

Is it black and white or colour?

Is it a professional photo or a candid snapshot?

Does this photograph belong to this character or to someone else?

Is it displayed in a frame? If so, what does the frame look like?

Where is the picture displayed? 

If the photo is not on display, where is it kept?

What condition is it in? 

How does this photograph make your character feel?

What do they think about when they look at it?

Do they have a specific memory associated with it?

It's fun how each character who Assane brought to his lair gravitated towards a different object within it.

Guédira, being a detective, was obviously into the evidence board Assane had made in an attempt to determine who his mother's kidnapper was ("he's just like me fr fr").

Meanwhile Raoul was obsessed with Assane's collection of Lupin books, and Claire zeroed in on the photo of Assane as a boy with Babakar (I always get the sense she wants to know more about him and wishes she could have met him).

no cause like wait hang on a sec

i think it’s actually so easy for me to say that i have never been as inspired by an artist and their art as by Tyler Joseph and twenty one pilots.

like his experiences and feelings and just creative vision are so felt through his music and yeah his lyrics are expressive and steeped in metaphor and layered and amazing and yeah the songs are sonically beautiful and catchy and genre-defying, but the execution of all of it together and with then the creative direction of the narrative and the art and world and live shows and promotional materials and references it’s all just incredible

and his vision and his passion for his work and the conviction behind his art is so apparent and just felt so deeply

and yes his lyricism about depression and anxiety and self doubt are so inspiring and connect with me for so many reasons, but like also his songs and lyrics and subtext about exploring his relationship with god and his doubt as a christian and his place in the church is just unmatched and unbelievably beautiful in the way he’s so vulnerable and authentic about it.

like yes, Tyler, i’m there

you’re there or you were and i’m there with you too like he’s brought me there with him and through his art i meet him halfway

and i don’t know if there’s really any other artist through any other medium of art that i’ve ever had that kind of an impact/or connection with before.

like this band and their music and what it means to me is indescribable beyond and words i could say and it inspires me creatively like no other

Thoughts for Thursday

Imagine your character going somewhere for the first time.  Perhaps it’s their first day at a new school or their first day on the job. Maybe they’re meeting a friend’s parents and are entering the family’s home for the first time.  Where they go is up to you!

Here are some things to consider:

Why are they going to this place?

Do they want to be there?

What is your character thinking about as they enter the place? 

How are they feeling? 

What do they imagine the place will be like? 

Are they anticipating any problems or do they expect an uneventful time?

How are their senses being engaged? How does the place look and sound? Are their any unique scents?

Think of a place for your character to go, and describe their thoughts and feelings about going there and their impressions of the place.
