Ohoho I would LOVE to talk about Raph!! Seeing how you didn’t ask for a specific version, I’ll just go through all the ones I’ve seen, and place them in order of my favorites to least favorites. :)

1. 2003 version

There are many reasons why this iteration of Raphael is my favorite. For starters, his voice actor is TOP NOTCH at his job; The gravelly, New Yorker/Jersey accent makes him stand out from a lot of the other Raph’s. But with that spiteful sarcastic tone, he also is able to capture the more tender moments like the one above. When Raph is sitting with the kind old lady he accidentally befriends, or even Tyler, (the boy he helps to save the kid’s mother from a gang), his scratchy, military-esque voice becomes softer, quieter, and gentler. And I LOVE IT. There are many other quirks and characteristics that I adore about him, but his heart and his voice remain at the top of the list. :)

2. 2012

This was the first ever Raphael that I saw! All the way back in 2020, *shivers from trauma* I decided to try the series for the first time. And mostly, I was not disappointed. :)

As for this version of the hothead, I’ll again go to the talent of the voice actor who plays him. Sean Astin was an incredible fit for this iteration of Raphael. He handles the passion, tough love, and sarcasm PERFECTLY. Also- just my opinion here- he has the best scream by far. 🤣 I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that hard compared to when I watched the Cockroach episode!! And that brings me to my next favorite characteristic of this version. He’s HILARIOUS. He expertly plays off a more dry, sarcastic humor, (mirroring 87’s style), and Sean once again did a marvelous job with each of his line deliveries. Last thing- I love how he grows and changes through the series. As time moves forward, he and Leo become the closest of comrades on the battle field. If you compare season 1 to season 3+ you will see a HUGE difference in how much Raphael trusts Leo to lead. It’s really cool to see that kind of growth. :)

3. 2007

Oh man- you want to talk about conflict with your brother and learning to trust his leading- I WISH this Raph got that kind of treatment in the writing of the movie. Don’t get me wrong, that battle between Raph and Leo in the rain remains to be one of the greatest fights in TMNT history in my books. But the plot was centered so much around their FIGHTING that we barely got to just see them as casual brothers… and that is when I REALLY decide if I like the character when I see them without their walls up with their family. So that’s why he barely lost to 2012 Raph. If there ever was a tv series based on 2007 I CERTAINLY would watch it. Hopefully then I would finally see this poor hothead who can’t figure out his feelings’ true colors behind that Nightwatcher’s helmet.

4. Mutant Mayhem

(Okay- so I must specify- I’m counting the series in with the movie for this version of Raphael.)

This may just be the cutest version of Raphael. He’s the one who acts the most like a real teenager, (shocker to no one seeing how he’s VOICED by an actual teen boy!), and he wears his heart on his sleeve. With this Raph, he’s far moreeee energetic than angry. And I love that! When he’s prepping before jumping into a fight he’s just bouncing around and mumbling “IMMA GET CRAZY HEHEHE” to himself, rather than picturing every persons face before he pummels it in with his flying fists. In the series, (despite its HORRID faults), he really shows his love and care for his family after he and his brothers are separated. He fends for himself with broken ribs, (the most vulnerable he’s probably ever felt), and finally makes his way back to his brothers. What does he do when he finds Leo? Does he smack him in the head, berating him for being so stupid? Nooope. He hugs him tightly with every aching muscle in his body. Awwww~ I’m both excited and terrified for the next season of the show… (PLEASE LET THEM MAKE THE REST OF THE SERIES CANON AND NOT MADE UP PLEASEEEE)

5. Rise

This lovable GOOF- Heheh he’s so silly- I remember DYING LAUGHING watching him STRUGGLING to make his brothers fix their mistake in the Pizza Puffs episode HAHAHA!! “But they’re just kids~” “-AND YOU CAN MAKE THEM MEN!!!” *proceeds to beat himself up* This anxiety-ridden, heart bigger than his muscles, leader heart of the team has a (once again) incredible voice actor who aces every line. The comedy in Rise is peak ANYWAYS, but this lovable panda bear just adds that lil extra spark to the hilariousness of the show. :)

6. Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Hehehe this version of Raph has delicious dark humor that rattles the innocent and entertains the streetwise. He also has a New York/jersey accent, and the voice actor who plays him is once again really good at their job. His love for his brothers isn’t quite as prevalent as in the other shows, (mostly cause this version is far more subtle and doesn’t have his heart on his sleeve), but his dynamic with each of his bros is still very much prevalent. :)

7. 1987

It’s kind of unfair because I haven’t seen all of the 87 series- But from what I have been able to scrounge from the internet, this Raphael is the most… vanilla. It’s the original yes, but it’s also the most tame version. (A word I don’t ever classify the character of Raphael with.) I WILL say he’s voiced by the legend Rob Paulsen, which certainly keeps his character charming and funny, and normally never boring. Famously known for breaking the fourth wall as a past time, this version is sarcastic, fun, and of course rude. ;)

Okay, so these will (hopefully, maybe?) be the last updates I'm going to post about for a little while.

Playing with Shadows - part one of Dead Doesn't Mean Gone au

This was supposed to be a oneshot, but I quickly got really attached to this version of Mikey and Splinter and the fic ended up being six chapters long. By the time the first draft of this fic was done, it was the first part of a series and I started really thinking about what happened to both these characters and where to take them in the future.

2. Memento Mori (Remember That You Must Die) - part three of DDMG

DDMG Tang Shen is a lot of fun to write. Figuring out who she was when not someone's dead wife/mother was as entertaining as it was interesting, and the answer was apparently someone who's simultaneously filled with so much love and a desire to protect her daughter, as well as constantly cataclysmically enraged at all the people who have wronged her. If dropped into season 1 of the 12 universe, Shredder would be dead within a week.

Her relationship with DDMG Splinter now lives in my brain rent free - they were so close to moving to NYC, and being happy together, but everything went to hell instead. I am so excited for when we (eventually) get to her and Splinter meeting up again.

I will say there are parts in this fic that assign more blame to Shen than is fair regarding what happened + the arguments she and Yoshi had about moving. That isn't me blaming her for them having relationship issues because Splinter is my blorbo - her husband died horribly and was simultaneously blamed or a lot of stuff he didn't do + his name was dragged through the mud, so a combination of that and survivor's guilt has left Shen blaming herself a lot more than she should, because the idea of blaming him for anything, even the times he was a stubborn mule, makes her feel complicit.

3. The Whole Being Dead Thing - part one of Ghost Splinter 2 Electric Boogaloo

Splinter dies and keeps making awful (un)life choices, which all blow up in his face.

Also fun fact: the name for this au was supposed to be a jokey placeholder name until I thought of a better one, because saying "that au where splinter dies" also describes DDMG. But then I got attached to it

4. The Pied Piper of New York - part two of DDMG.

I know DDMG has taken up most of this list, but in my defence I've not written many fanfics. Also it's my comfort au and I enjoy shaking it like a dog. Actual picture of how I write this au below:

This is probably the first fic I wrote that really started to include horror elements, which are a lot of fun to write. Getting to write Mikey's brothers and how they bounce off one another and Splinter is also entertaining, cause I get to explore how they're different or similar from their 12 counterparts e.g. Leo gradually coming to see Splinter as one of them, but not liking the idea of Splinter being Mikey's dad because it a) interfers with Leo's own pre-existing plans and b) he doesn't want to think about their dad being replaced.

5. Lone Turtles and Cubs - part one of tmnt ageswap au/ dubiously canon for The Road to Hell.

I'm still proud of this fic - it was one of the first things I wrote after not being able to write for 5+ years, and is one of the first fics I managed to finish.

Basically the Turtles throwing a party to commemorate their rat nephew and sort of human nieces being given their first weapons, with flashbacks to shortly after they all got mutated.

All TMNT Shredder’s Revenge Color References - Karai

Been playing Shredder’s Revenge recently due to the new dlc and since I haven’t seen much discussion in terms of references the new dlc, I decided to look into a lot of it myself. This is just Karai’s colors for now and definitely isn’t complete (updated: I have done all the characters by now, check out the bottom of my post for links to all the other posts), but feel free to give me any additional info you might know and I hope you enjoy checking this out.

I wanted to add numerous move references as well, but I don’t think I’d be able to put enough pictures for that and colors so it’ll probably be a different post.

# 1 - Default - AFAIK, Karai hasn’t actually appeared in the 1987 show nor related media (besides Tournament Fighters), so I think this is a new design.

# 2 - Mirage Shredder Outfit - In the mirage run, Karai at one point did don the Shredder outfit which shares a similar color scheme in colored depictions of Mirage characters. Since practically every version of Karai also having some heavy links to the Shredder story wise, it makes a lot of sense that she would have a Shredder pallet.

# 3 - 2007 Movie? - There’s a lot of different things I think this could be a reference to, including Foot Soldiers in general, the IDW design, the 2014/2016 movie Karai, the older 2003 design etc. Slot 3 seems to be for the 1990 movie designs for most of the cast, so as the 2007 movie debatably shares the same universe as the 90’s movies, I think that would make a lot of sense, although she has even less red on her than this in-game color.

# 4 - 2003 Show - This slot seems to be universally for the 03 show and it appears to also be the case for Karai. The blue is quite pronounced compared to Karai in most of the earlier seasons she appeared in, so either it’s supposed to be based on the S7 design or they just wanted to make it more visually distinct.

# 5 - 2012 Show (Mutant) - This one was confusing me for a while as I haven’t actually watched all of 2012 yet, but I have seen enough to recognize her standard design which this almost definitely isn’t. Slot 5 seems to be mostly for the 2012 designs however, so I looked more into it and found out she did turn into a purple and white snake which seems to fit.

# 6 - Tournament Fighters Genesis - This slot seems to generally be reserved for the Rise variations of characters (specifically the turtles, Splinter and Casey), but Karai’s surprisingly isn’t (nor does that color seem to be anywhere in this game). I do like this color variant though.

Also worth noting that I don’t think any of her colors reference the alternate pallet for the Genesis Karai. While an alternate pallet exists, from what I know, she wasn’t playable in the original release of the Genesis version so I don’t think there was any way to see the alternate pallet legitimately (it is available in the Cowabunga Collection however).

# 7 - Tournament Fighters SNES (Alt) - Don’t know why her Alt is listed first when you have all the colors, but it seems to be.

# 8 - Tournament Fighters SNES

# 9 - Aska? - This is by far what I’m most stumped on. The red and gold seems close enough and I can kinda see the blue/purple on Aska as white for her gameplay sprites, but a lot of other art involving Aska tends to display that clothing as a clear purple or blue. I haven’t been able to figure out any other potential reference for this however.

# 10 - Mirage Comics - The original TMNT Comics produced by Mirage were produced in black and white, which this design reflects. 

If you have the dlc, this is quite clear given that the survival mode included a “Mirage” dimension which is black-and-white, alongside many waves having comic book panels.

# 11 - NES (General) - AFAIK, Karai never actually appeared in a NES TMNT game, but the simple color pallet and the fact that other characters have actual NES color pallets they’ve used before in their 2nd-to-last color slot.

12 - Gameboy - Essentially the same situation as the NES color.

Parallel Lines AU (TMNT X Usagi Yojimbo)

ok ok ok I woke up this morning before work in a cold sweat cuz this shit suddenly popped into my head. Okay so basics; No. 1 All Usagi's are related and from the same universe. No. 2 Time moves weird between dimensions which is how we get this AU of which I'm calling Parallel Lines. Aka inter dimensional travel + the fixed point in time continuity of Usagi's world never lets the Bunny and Turtle boi be together for long. Aka generational gay longing AU.

So firstly I'm sort of splitting up the personality of Comic Usagi with 87 Usagi and 03 Usagi, though mainly its 03. So as seen on the chart 87 Usagi would be 03 Usagi's grandpa. He and 87 Leo became real close during his time in New York, like really really close, but unfortunately had to part ways in the end. Everybody noticed how different 87 Usagi was after his inter dimensional trip, a lingering sadness always present under a bold faced mask. As a child 03 Usagi always wondered about the ever present sadness in his grandpa's eyes. Then years later 03 Usagi joins the Battle Nexus and meets 03 Leo. At first its easy to stay in touch through dimensional portals and letters sent through them. Then the weird time shit starts happening, i.e. they notice that time moves a LOT slower in 03 Leo's dimension. Months between letters and visits turn into years for Usagi and the pain of essentially growing up separately leads them to drift apart. Leo still sends letters sometimes though he as no idea WHEN in time Usagi will receive it. Usagi cherishes each letter with all his heart. He now understood the deep sadness that lingered within his grandfather's heart was actually longing. Along all this Jotaro is born and grows and trains with Usagi's old master. And though their relationship is "complicated" they care deeply for each other as only father and son can and the loneliness 03 Usagi feels hurts a little less. He's is traveling with Usagi when Jei attacks the village and they need to transport Kintaro to the sacred temple. Then the Turtles attack, brainwashed, Usagi and Jotaro are able to snap them out of it and Usagi's heart soars as it did in his youth if only for just a moment. This Leo (2012) is different from his Leo (03) but he is also very similar as well and it hurts. It hurts to see an echoe of the man you onced loved, both young and heavy with the weight of responsibility of being leader, just as he had been. And it was bittersweet to see that same connection that had once been between them now find itself present in Jotaro and 12 Leo. He knew what the ending of this would be when the journey was over and as much as he wanted to save his son from the pain of it all he could not bare to get between them if it wasn't yet time to part. Jotaro has never met a person quite like 12 Leo, just as headstrong and passionate as well as a bit of a dork. Leo told Jotaro all about his adventures, both on earth and beyond the stars, and in turn Jotaro told Leo about his own life and adventures as a samurai in training. They could talk for hours without getting bored or just sit in silence watching the stars just enjoy the presence of each other. When they parted Jotaro felt a piece of himself leave along with Leo as well, worlds away and never to meet again. It reminded him of his father, of days where he was quiet and looked along the horizon looking for something. Something that now Jotaro will now be looking for, for the rest of his life as well. All is quiet for many years after, until Yuichi is introduced. I haven't seen Samurai Rabbit yet but its on my list of shit to do. But especially it would be Gay Longing Pt 4 with the same end result UNTIL....

We get to our MM Turtles where finally FINALLY Leo and Usagi are in the same universe. But idk if I should wait until the new show comes out incase they do another Usagi crossover or say fuck it and make up my own OC and time line after I watch Samurai Rabbit? Pls feel free to suggest, add, or comment on this mess of gobbledygook as I wrote this all down half asleep and during my work lunch break 😅

A little bit of everything! The top couple that pop up on my profile are Craig of the Creek (21), Project Sekai (14), Rise of the TMNT (5), and Kid Cosmic (5). But honestly? Whatever I'm into at the moment has a good chance at getting a fic. (My notes app is nothing but draft ideas.)

So one of these is not like the others lol. I can explain though. So, top down:

SASTTM got published when Security Breach was super popular and tapped into the public outcry for Freddy being Gregory's dad. It's been sitting unfinished for over a year now at 28k, but I do have plans to finish it! I've cut the draft down a lot to actually make it a feasible writing project now, but I'm not going to publish anymore chapters until it's done. I want to finish it properly because this fic helped me grow so much as a writer and it means a lot to me.

I Can't Lose You Again will get touched on later on, as well as Wish We Could Turn Back Time.

Five Time Casey Moved was a fic that I wrote in a haze after watching season one of ROTTMNT and then the movie. It was published the day after the movie came out iirc and has a really special place in my heart for several reasons <3

And then the chatfic.

I got my fandom start in Danganonpa and in middle school, chatfics are the funniest, coolest things ever. So once I decided to start writing, obviously I had to do my own. It has aged horribly, is horribly written, and honestly should be deleted and never see the light of day again. Or at least be orphaned. But I made myself a promise to never delete my old fics unless they were actually horrific because you know what? Everyone starts somewhere. So it's still up. And one day it will get dethroned from the top kudos list and I will throw a party <3

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I usually respond!! It makes me so giddy to receive even the shortest comments, and I always try to pass on that good feeling <3

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

So out of my published fics its I’d Make a Deal with God (I’d Get Him to Swap Our Places) which is a ROTTMNT fic I wrote about the movie before it came out to speculate on the future. In it we see both Raph and Donnie get kranged, leaving Leo and Mikey crying in a subway. A friend actually told me to kay why you know what myself because of it (in a very much joking manner) which was SUCH a compliment!!!

Out of everything I've written? There's a half finished ROTTMNT fic in my junior year AP Lang notebook which takes place over one week and ends with Mikey dying which is... really angsty. Like worryingly angsty. It's still an interesting concept that I think could be fun to explore, but even if I do ever finish it idk if it'll see the light of day.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I'm really not a fan of unhappy endings, even in fics. Hurt is best served with a side of comfort in my opinion, so everything I write ends up being really light and fluffy.

Three fics come to mind as having the happiest *ending* though.

The first is Would You be so Kind (As to Fall in Love with Me?) which is a Craig of the Creek fic entirely focused on two characters realizing that they love each other and that polyamory is an option! It's super sweet and I refuse to believe it's not canon tbh.

The other two are both Project Sekai fics from Tenmay this year, The Royal Summit (Where Friendships Blossom) and Sunbound Promise. They're both fantasy aus where Tsukasa and Toya grow closer, the first being their first meeting and the second where they become brothers. They're both so sweet and self indulgent, the endings make me so happy <3 <3 <3 <3

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I got one comment on SASTTM where someone was bitching about neopronouns which I think counts. But overall people have been really nice and anyone who doesn't jive with the fic just moves on lol

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Nope, and I don't know if I ever will. It's just not what I really want to write :p

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Occasionally! None of them have been particularly "crazy", though. I try to keep those things pretty grounded. I have a lot of crossover ideas that don't get written though :p

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but if anyone ever wants to do so you have my full permission! Just shoot me a message somewhere to let me know

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I don't know if I'd be able to either, co-plotting would be fine, I'm doing that with my sibling and a prsk magical girl fic, but writing,,, I couldn't :,)

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

There are a lot of ships I love. But for all time favorite, I have to go with the one that I keep going back to read fics for even though I've lost pretty much all other interest in the game: Promptis (Prompto/Noctis from FFXV) I just keep coming back to them.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Where to start with this list.

The main one if probably my Project Sekai fantasy au fic The Eastern Side of Bolganio. It's so special to me, but it's a majorly ambitious project and I've gotten so little response with it that it's hard to write. I'm normally pretty good about not focusing on the numbers when it comes to fics (writing for small random fandoms help, there are some fics that I'm surprised have more than two hits, much less two kudos), but the fact that it's such an ambitious project that I've barely made a dent into... idk

I really want to finish it though </3

16. What are your writing strengths?

idk, people say that my characterization is really good? I saved this one for last to answer but now I'm tired

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm going to try and not be too self deprecating lol.

I'm really bad at describing environments/movement and dialogue at the same time. It's always either White Room Syndrome or a clunky mess. I also suck at titles. I always try to not use song lyrics, but anything that I do always sounds horrible.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I love it when it's done well! I love it when fic authors delve into the heritage of characters and bring in elements of it. I've done it a fair couple of times and always take great care to make sure that the translations aren't too horrific.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

So the first ever fanfiction I wrote was my exceedingly angsty, take on who the other souls in Undertale were before they died.

HOWEVER, I consider the first *fandom* I wrote for to be either Percy Jackson or Danganronpa. My first actual attempt at writing a fanfiction was a Solangelo prompt which I wrote two sentences of before abandoning and the first time I tried to write canon characters in situations, doing things, was it that damned chatfic XD

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I Can't Lose You Again - I told you these would show back up again. Anyways, writing this fic was so fun. I really felt like I knew what I was doing, and apparently I did based off the comments! It's so special to me <3

Wish We Could Turn Back Time - This is my Roman Empire. I haven't updated this fic in years but I think about it everyday. I'm working on cleaning up the outline to be less ambitious so I actually have a chance to finish writing the thing, and I can't wait to finally give it the ending it deserves! It's also actually shaped my life in so many ways <3

After The Dinner Horn and Offscreen; a CotC oneshot collection - Maybe putting a oneshot collection here is cheating but shhhh. This actually is an umbrella title for almost all of my cotc fics (especially on platforms where I can't be bothered to upload them individually unless they're multichaptered). So many of these fics either shaped me as a writer drastically or mean so much to me on a personal level it's WILD. And also a reflection on how much the show means to me I guess? Idk that's enough psychoanalyzing for today.

Coercion Cancellation - This one might be cheating because it's the one I'm currently working on, but shhhhh. It still counts. It's for an indie horror game called Imaginary Friend Asylum ((prequel to The Friends We Left Behind)) which you should check out

Also adding on the two Project Sekai fics from question seven about the happiest ending. They're just so, so self indulgent <3

Seriously, though, I ended up in the TMNT rabbit hole reading Doom Fanfiction. Yeah. You want to talk about weird connections? How about a weird obsession with an ultra-violent game turning into one for four turtles and a rat? A Doom fanfiction writer (not Desceros) with good work had me lingering on their profile page and I found this TMNT there with aged-up turtles. That got me to scour AO3 for more TMNT works while I started to read the IDW series. I fell in love with the IDW series but got caught with my pants down when I found Euclidean Line.

Needless to say, I looked into Desceros' other works and remembered the Bay Turtles as a far-off memory (rewatched the movies at that point, it was interesting) but the Rise series surprised me, not to mention the way the Krang were getting portrayed in the iteration when the worst I remembered from the Utrom and Krang were the IDW and Bay versions. Yeah. So... after starting Symphony and getting to the part where Leo explains the whole thing that happened with the Krang, I decided to do some digging.

... And the rest is history.

Rise version. And the reason is... complicated.

See, when I started watching Rise, I had just finished catching up with IDW and had gotten to watching the Bayverse movies. And in both iterations, as much as I was fond of the Boy in Blue... It was Donatello that caught my attention. I love nerds. I fucking adore them.

So when I got to Rise, I fully expected to fall head over heels with Donatello. And, to be frank, I kind of did. I love the way he goes absolutely insane but learns throughout the series how to reign that back. And, as I expected, starting Episode 2, I grew fond of Leonardo through his pep talk and the way one could see that he had the makings of a leader in him. But then the writers of Rise did something... unexpected with Leonardo that shifted my perspective and had me... reconsider.

They gave him forethought.

See, I — I have this thing for tactics? Some might call it a turn-on. Chess masters, tacticians, or strategists fucking do it for me. One of my favorite series on Netflix is The Queen's Gambit because of this. They are observant, they listen and they play. And the better they are at it, the more it doesn't look like they're doing it.

Which happens to be the case with Rise Leo.

IDW and Bay Leo can lead their teams and, eventually, become teachers. Rise Leo takes care of a freaking army in the movie and while yes, they did lose, they held out for twenty-two years. TWENTY-TWO YEARS. That is not a small feat. That is incredible. And that is enough to skyrocket Rise Leo to the top of my favorites list, no questions asked.

32.) What was the first thing you've made for TMNT?

I wrote a Bayverse Leo Fanfiction that turned into Blurple. I still have it, too. Both versions. The premise is kind of similar to A Shot In the Dark so I don't think I'll ever publish it, but I will post parts of it at some point because I adore them so much. The Leonardo/Reader/Donatello dynamic was interesting to explore. Heck, I even had some interesting snippets with Raphael and Michelangelo.

🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

Oh ABSOLUTELY outline 😂 generally something will have prompted me to want to write, like a specific scene or plot, and that gets written down first. And then I outline out from there. SUPER non-chronological (for NLW, for example, I wrote what is currently outlined as chapter 10 first, then jumped back to chapter 4, and have been filling in the blanks ever since), lots of moving things around as I go. I have so much respect for people who can just start writing and go with it, because omg. I don't understand how it's possible.

📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?

Oh man 😭😭😭 ummm, feralcleric has some great TMNT fics! Literally all of them are so good ♥️♥️♥️ esp a fan of "despite all my rage" and "let it out." Call Me Here (I Will Appear) by rbt_lvr is a GREAT (very angsty) post-movie Rise fic. Retrosynthesis is a rare 2007 fic and I just LOVE the way they write Donnie's thought process, it's such an enjoyable read. The writing style just scratches my brain so good. Walk with open hands is a 2012 Mikey-centric time travel fic where he tries to save you-know-who and it's DEVASTATING. Also GwyndionAE has some really cool 2012 fics!!! Great grasp on the characters. ALSO Freaky Friday by melonpalooza and knight_of_breath is a really fun crossover between MM, Rise, and 2012!! Very early but I love it so much. Melon is also working on a "Tang Shen lives" fic that is excellent

You know, I would've said short, because up until PTS that's all I'd ever written!! And they're still fun if I have just like, a specific concept. But I'm actually really really enjoying longer fics!! Gives you more time to work with it, to build tension and insert foreshadowing etc, so that's really fun. Plus, I cannot lie, I LOVE getting reader engagement on each chapter 🥰 like seeing people's reactions and predictions etc is basically crack to me LMAO so that's another advantage in the longfic category. Does require a lot more planning though!

Please Teach Me the Secret Technique!

One player acts as the martial arts master (GM), while the rest play as students. The master's objective is to teach the students life lessons and help them overcome their flaws. The students' objectives are to learn the secret special technique that the master insists doesn't exist.

Each student has one flaw, and 5 points in each attribute (Mind, Balance, Heart, Spirit, Strength), adding 1 to an attribute of their choice and subtracting 1 from another. The master presents a series of challenges such as a training regimen or fighting villains, and if satisfied grants more points to students’ attributes.

For non-combat challenges the master chooses an attribute and difficulty (10 = easy, 15 = hard), with students adding that attribute to 2d6 to check for success.

Combat involves secretly choosing a move, revealing simultaneously, then rolling a d20 to attempt a special attack which adds their associated attribute bonus. The master rolls for non-students. Each move’s power is listed below. Highest power gets a point and first to 3 points wins.

I'm more about mechanics than roleplay, but I think this one leaves a lot of room for player creativity. I can't deny that I was pretty inspired by some of my childhood favorite cartoons (Xiaolin Showdown, TMNT, etc.) but I love imagining the sorts of characters that people might play here. I'm pretty proud of the math on this one too, since it's balanced enough to make for some great mind games. It looks like some of the moves are better than others, but you'd be surprised!

"Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, one of the most beloved video games of this or any other time, is getting a remake which is taking over a poll by a landslide? What are the chances?! Seriously though, except for WarioWare: Move It!, have you even heard of any of these games? What about Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2? Okay, yes I've heard of it... I just wish I hadn't, they released the first game with only Leonardo & Michelangelo… like how can you have a game with 2/4 Turtles? It's just sacrilegious. Then for the sequel, they replaced them with Donatello & Raphael… lolwut? So having half the team at any given time is a conscious design choice, not a simple case of laziness, or running outta time/budget, they want it this way. They also replaced Shredder with Rocksteady, but don't plan to add Bebop… probably saving him for the third installment. "Wait… does that mean?" Oh yes, the first game has April & Shredder in it, so they have 4 TMNT characters, just not the 4 Turtles… it boggles the mind. Why on Earth would anyone design it so you can never have a full roster? (There were like a dozen cut characters, I'm only listing the TMNT, or I'd be here all day.)"

While the Warner Brothers series pitch from 2001 is pretty well-known as one of the early proposals for 2003, there was also a second pilot by Rainbow Studios that, had it gone through, would have seen the 2003 series animated in 3D rather than 2D

Michael Sinterniklaas (Leonardo) was one of the few VAs not already working at 4Kids when auditions were held. He ended up crashing them at the encouragement of fellow voice actress Carrie Keranen (and by "encouragement," I mean she threatened to kick his ass.)

He's also responsible for every single burp you hear in the show

It's a well known fact that Sam Riegel was originally cast to play Michelangelo while Wayne Grayson was supposed to play Donatello. They ended up swapping them while recording episode 1 because the voice director wasn't vibing with their performances, which is how we ended up with the final voices we did.

Speaking of Sam: After recording of Season 1 wrapped up, he moved to LA. While he was fired from all his anime dubbing roles at 4Kids, he was allowed to stay on TMNT as Don; however, he had to buy... at least few thousand dollars worth of recording equipment, if not more, and learn how to use it because 4Kids wasn't willing to rent him a booth

Wayne Grayson occasionally did Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions in his Mikey voice while goofing around in the booth, which ultimately made it into an episode

According to one TMNT 2003 con panel that Michael Sinterniklaas showed up at years and years ago, at least one person at the network got fired for allowing the Shredder decapitation scene from the Season 1 climax to go through. (It was excused because of the fact that it was going to be revealed later that the Shredder is actually an Utrom in a robotic exoskeleton.)

As mentioned in the tags of another post I reblogged, Lloyd Goldfine created the handle "Mortu" in order to defend the filler episodes online, which some fans were criticizing. One of the writers found out what he was doing within five minutes and he never entered any of those chat rooms ever again.

Peter Laird actually pushed a lot for the writers to double mutate Raph instead of Don during the Outbreak arc. He initially explained that it was because it was more comic book accurate... then admitted it was because he wanted figures based on the "Gamaraph" design by Jim Lawson.

Blah blah blah, toy companies were the reason the show went in the directions it did past season 4, the production team was just as happy about it as the fans were (which is, to say, they weren't. I mean just read Peter Laird's blog post regarding the "TMNT 2105 Bible".)

Insert list of all the stuff that was supposed to happen in the cancelled second season of Fast Forward, including the debut on Stockman's new cloned body, the return of characters like Leatherhead and the Utrom Shredder, an appearance by Space Usagi, the Dark Turtles officially becoming good, and the whole plot point of Cody starting to fade out of existence due to how long the turtles had been in the future

There are unused storyboards for Back to the Sewer that would have seen Slash appear in an episode, possibly paving the way for more 87 characters to appear in the show had the series continued past Turtles Forever

Towards the end of Turtles Forever's production, a number of people at the company ended up getting fired, including Lloyd Goldfine himself; however, he and everyone else still kept coming in to work anyway because they wanted the movie to premiere on time at Comic Con. True dedication.
