Y’all out here saying Tom Nook is a thief but I’m about to show you the real thief: Pip the Lumberjack from Littlewood. 

I know the picture is small but look at him. Innocent and cute right? WRONG.

So his purpose is to expand your town but HOLY SHIT does this child ask for a lot for what is, imo, very little. 

(Dewdrops are the currency of this universe and the amount you get in a day depends on a variety of factors etc.)

Base Town, 50 by 50 tiles, 2,500 Tiles Total Expansion 1, 58 by 50 tiles. 2,900 Tiles Total, 10,000 dewdrops Expansion 2, 66 by 50 tiles, 3,300 Tiles, Total 25,000 dewdrops Expansion 3, 74 by 50 tiles, 3,700 Tiles, Total 50,000 dewdrops

Look at the numbers. The first expansion takes away two rows of tree on the left and right sides of the town, not all the way around. 

So, just for context, the wedding ring is a very important item in this game as obviously it allows marriage. It regularly circulates through the auction house at a price of 25,000 dewdrops and is, as far as I know, the most expensive material item in game as it legit causes the endgame credits to roll. There are also some pricey upgrades but never as much as 25,000 or even 15,000 at once. And with the knowledge you really don’t need the space upgrades as you can fit all the buildings in the started plot with room to spare, I conclude the child is scamming you. You also can’t interact with him outside of him scamming you.  He just dances at the bottom of your town, free of charge, until you cough up the money.

So yes, take this as a joke but I’m also kind of serious.
