"This One Photo Changed the Way I See the World Forever…"
What if I told you the greatest adventure of your life doesn’t require a passport? 🌍✨ This photo may look like just another scenic street by the water, but there's a life-changing truth behind it — one that has the power to shift your perspective completely. Marcel Proust said it best:
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

Just occurred to me that I get bit WAY less often now, as a full-time dog walker, than I used to when I was a stripper. Incredible

Love it when I discover a new band and absent-mindedly search for them on Tumblr to see what gifsets and stuff the kids are tumbleblogging about them and it turns out the singer has an active Tumblr. Top quality.

I've been "using" Tumbleblogs since the beginning even though I only got an account in 2010 and started making posts in 2011. In those days, endless scrolling meant I could only go so far before my computer ran out of memory or my browser crashed. Probably didn't help that I was using AOL's incorporated browser. But I honestly didn't think, at first, that I had any right to be here until I had built up a portfolio.

What to do about Tumblr
So while I'm not going to be deleting this Tumblr, I'm somewhat less enthusiastic about reviving it now, given the double punch of CEO Matt Mullenweg going on a Whine-n-Ban Binge annoying enough to make Tumblr's trans staff make a "we're not with him" disclaimer post followed by Automattic quietly announcing that posts on both Tumblr and WordPress.com will be sent to generative AI companies for training unless you explicitly opt out.
So, I may, may, be putting more effort into my cohost account as my "Tumbleblog": https://cohost.org/arilin
And, of course, there's my actual for-real website: https://giants-club.net/

Queer Quality Swag
Hello! Welcome! I am an indie maker of queer things like stickers, keychains, and pins. I've had an Etsy and Square shop for quite a while and also sell in some stores and markets. I'm mostly active on instagram but felt like I might be missing a chunk of my audience not being on the tumbleblog scene, so... hello!
LINKS FOR SHOPS & THINGS
Main shop: https://queerqualityswag.square.site/
Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/queerqualityswag
Tip Jar: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/queerqswag
Insta: https://instagram.com/queerqswag
^ Also on facebook but it's just instagram reposts
TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@queerqswag
Just for funsies, I've also recently gotten into crochet. I'm not looking to sell pieces (I don't think) but didn't have a place to share the finished results without 'diluting' my 'business' feeds. As a more social and relaxed space I'm hoping to share them here instead!

Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikToks and Instagram? The Rise of Tumblr
Tumblr created by David Karp in 2016, was not a new idea that spurn out of nowhere. He was working as a software consultant with an interest in tumblelogs  circulating around the internet, in expectation of the existing platforms to release their own tumbleblogging websites which grew into waiting around a year(Vitaly space 2024). Deciding that time waits for no man, he decided dive into developing it with his software developer friend Marco Armont. The adolescent stage of the website has grown up to 75000 users, displaying a great interest in the blogging community (Vitaly space 2024). Graphics Interchange Format (GIFs) become a trend across Tumblr post generated by users. One of Tumblr's defining features was its embrace of GIFs. These animated images became a staple of Tumblr culture, adding a playful and expressive element to posts. Tumblr's early success can be attributed in part to its ability to tap into emerging trends and provide a platform for users to share and create engaging content.
youtube
Challenges and Limitations
However, a majority of the broad audience and user-generated content (UGC) are either gay, lesbian and homosexual (Vitaly space 2024). Despite its initial success, Tumblr faced several challenges that ultimately hindered its growth. While this association was embraced by many users, it also made Tumblr less appealing to certain demographics. It becomes difficult for homophobic to navigate in the Tumblr community. Despite The platform struggled to attract a broader audience, limiting its potential for mainstream appeal. Additionally, in the age of TikToks and Instagram social media platforms growing, Tumblr or blogging in general fall behind in growth numbers. In a fast-paced generation, consuming information instantly in a search engine or through short content videos like reels has become the popular norm in information consumption.  These platforms offered a more visually appealing and easily digestible format, making it easier for users to consume content quickly. Tumblr's focus on longer-form written content, while valuable for in-depth exploration, could not compete with the immediacy and brevity of short-form video platforms.
The Future of Blogging
While Tumblr may have fallen behind in terms of user growth and mainstream popularity, blogging remains a viable medium for content creation and expression. The ability to provide in-depth analysis, develop a personal brand, and connect with niche audiences continues to make blogging a valuable tool for individuals and businesses alike. Its advantage in allowing better details and depth added to topics posted is lacking in the field of short-form video content due to its limitation in the video duration.
However, bloggers must adapt to the changing landscape of social media. This means incorporating elements of visual storytelling, using social media platforms to promote their content, and experimenting with different formats, such as podcasts or video blogs.
Conclusion
Blogging may not be as mainstream as it once was, but it remains a relevant and valuable tool for content creators. By understanding the unique advantages of blogging and adapting to the evolving digital landscape, individuals and businesses can continue to leverage this medium to connect with their audience and achieve their goals.

Background Information
Hi girlies<3 Maria here! To start us off, I think it would be valuable to talk about the background and history of this social justice issue. I'll start with a brief history of the Tumblr site itself and explain what pro-ana/pro-mia culture actually is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr was launched by David Karp, a New Yorker from the Upper West Side, in 2007 (Eldridge, 2023). The purpose of the creation of Tumblr was to be home to what Karp called "tumbleblogs", which are smaller blogs to host text, photos, and videos (Eldridge, 2023). During the early 2000s, blogs were a very popular form of media consumption; cooking blogs, lifestyle blogs, travel blogs, etc. What stood out about Tumblr was the fact that Tumblr was a 'super blog' of sorts that hosted many of these smaller 'tumbleblogs'. Tumblr users could follow other 'tumbleblogs' and 'reblog' posts including texts, photos, and videos to their own blogs as well as posting original content. The original atmosphere on Tumblr was "ease of use and a positive environment" (Eldridge, 2023), which drew people to the site in hopes of finding online communities to share interests with.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With all of this being said, one may wonder how a website created for such innocent reasons could so quickly become a dark corner of the internet that breeds self-harming behaviours, including eating disorders (EDs).
Before we go into that, though, let's talk about pro-ana and pro-mia. What even are those words? If you've never been on Tumblr or the weird, niche areas of the internet (lucky you), you probably don't know.
Pro-ana translates to pro-anorexia, and pro-mia translates to pro-bulimia. Anorexia and bulimia are two life-threatening eating disorders that effect about 1 million Canadians (National Initiative for Eating Disorders, 2023). According to the National Eating Disorder Information Centre, anorexia is a mental disorder that is characterized by a fear of gaining weight, obsessive behaviours related to restriction and purging, and excessive weight loss (2024). Again, according to the NEDIC, bulimia is a mental disorder characterized by binge eating behaviours followed by purging behaviours (2024). Eating disorders are extremely dangerous conditions to suffer from. Many people may not realize the severity of EDs, however, here are some jarring statistics that may put things more into perspective from the National Initiative for Eating Disorders: EDs have the highest mortality rate out of all mental illnesses (10-15%), cardiac disease and suicide are the top two causes of death amongst people with anorexia, and the mortality rate of anorexia for girls ages 15 to 24 is 12 times higher than all other causes of death for girls in that age range put together (2023). See below for the DSM diagnostic criteria for both anorexia and bulimia.

Hello, friend.
If you're currently reading this, either:
1. You are one of my trusted people who knows me so much that I gave you this secret tumbleblog and knows the password because I gave it to you (excitingly);
2. You know me but stumbled upon this and knows the password (you hackerman);
3. I am already dead and finally made time to make this public; and/or
4. You're lucky.
Either way, welcome to my current thoughts. I am writing this right now to try and clear out my mind while I am in the middle of spiraling down into madness, and I feel like I am going to die at any given moment. So, if in case this happens, there are a lot of things I want to say to each and everyone of you by writing it here in this small space in the internet.
I'm going to try and write every person that I have met and made an impact in my life in this little corner, and you--my lovely reader--have a task to do: (1) find them, and (2) tell them what I wrote to them.
Some letters are going to be *wild*, but just tell them that "these are something Hench would like to tell you" and then send it to them. I think that's all.
I don't know how to end this, so I'll just say thank you for being a part of my life, and I am very lucky to have met you.
See you soon,
Hench

And ten years later, this whole tumbleblogging thing is going strong! Even if part of me deep down still feels like some sort of "Tumblr newbie", I think that's mainly because I'm still somehow culturally "less online" than a lot of people on here. And increasingly over the last couple of years, I've come to feel like a bit of a local dissident regarding Tumblr culture even while I continue to deeply enjoy being on here. It's very revealing to look at the above, my first-ever Tumblr post, and see how the way I see myself on here has evolved from being an offshoot of my involvement in Slate Star Codex comments sections and intended commitment and engagement with the online rationalist community, to this Tumblr blog being its own stand-alone thing and my primary online presence (at least under the handle Liskantope).
Technically, this blog turned 10 two and a half months ago, but today is this blog's true 10th birthday. Here's to another ten years!
Awkward Introduction
So it’s a new year, and I made a resolution (not specifically for the new year, just a general notion that’s been coming on for a while) to venture out of my comfortable meatspace into the vast world of the internet.  Or, more specifically, to become more involved with a particular online community that I became aware of through the incredible blog Slate Star Codex.  Ironically, although I’ve never had the greatest impression of tumblr, and a lot of the folks over at SSC don’t seem at all shy of affirming that tumblr culture can be pretty terrible at times, I’ve come to feel that becoming active on here is actually the most immediately effective course of action to get to know people.
Of course, I don’t really understand much about how tumblr works, so I apologize in advance for my clumsy use of it.  Not that I have any followers to be reading this at the moment…
Prior to my small participation in SSC comments sections in recent months, my use of the internet was pretty much exclusively an extension of my real-life social life (mainly Facebook).  This tumblr account is totally unconnected with it.  I feel that, for the moment, it’s enough to introduce myself here as a male, American, late-20’s graduate student soon to complete his PhD in (theoretical) math.  One of the enticing aspects of online culture is the freedom that comes with complete anonymity, and I intend to continue enjoying that at least for a while.
I look forward to posting more on here, but for now I think I’ll just close out this one by asking for suggestions from my as-of-yet zero followers as to what kind of hashtags to attach to it and to posts in general.  (I warned you I really don’t know anything about how this works…)

Vegetables do have longer shelf life.
Sponsored Post:
A plant-based diet might still enable you to live a longer and healthier life than you might otherwise be able to lead by default. What the plant-based industries are doing right now excites me greatly! It's time to shine, fella! Your future could be brighter with this plant-based diet!
According to a team of researchers at Loma Linda University in the United States, vegetarian men live on average 10 years longer than non-vegetarian men — 83 years compared to 73 years — proving that they are healthier and live longer lives. Women who ate vegetarianism lived an average of 6 years longer than nonvegetarians, extending their lives to 85 years on average.
A vegetarian diet consisting of formerly vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and wholegrains has been consistently found to lower your risk of developing major diseases and to increase longevity for several decades now. Check disclaimer on profile & landing page.
