Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Tumblrs video player has degraded past the point of reason for me.
For a while, a beautiful while, we had pause buttons. We could scroll along the video timeline. We could change the orientation. Such luxury!
Then I lost that beautiful pause button. The scrolling became almost impossible. The orientation. It was locked.
Then it slipped further. I could click a video and wait an hour and it would never load. Instead I must click it, escape it, then click it again to view its treasures. There was no explanation, and no pause button.
And now. Now it will never play if I click it. The scene freezes, performance anxiety and broken code rendering it still forever. I must escape it and then carefully try to unmute it to see it’s bashful wonders.
But I remember. I remember that for a brief golden time, it worked. I had a pause button, and a working video.
Who might this be from the navy-verse? https://at.tumblr.com/spiffytickler/the-inner-thighs-are-such-a-sensitive-spot/k2sa7kwqfv7x
Ooh. That's a good question, nonnie! I think it could be a few different couples.
Stud and Smartie - Bucky would smirk or smile when you squirm. He's also gentle with the restraints and would love to see you in a school girl skirt when he keeps you in bed.
Beast and Sweetart - Ari is going to have a lot of fun helping you get over your ex. And once you two have that level of trust, he's going to have fun exploring those boundaries with you. The fact that you're ticklish makes it even better.
Hottie and Sugar - We haven't met our tattoo artist yet, but he's going to discover how ticklish his sweet baker is during a flour fight. And he's itching to get you in his bed so he can do whatever he wants to you.
Not sure if anyone else has encountered this, but it seems Tumblr’s changed something about how the video uploading code works. (Now using a specific class for embeds instead of labeling them as “media.” Fine, I guess, if it didn’t impact existing themes.) When uploading a youtube embed to a side blog of mine—which I’ve done many times before without trouble—it was behaving strangely on the theme in use and displaying WAY bigger than the 500px post width. Just. A giant video filling most of the screen, ignoring its container. Thought I’d share the custom CSS fix I finally came up with, which sets the width back at 500* while maintaining the proper aspect ratio for the thumbnail!
*If your blog’s post width is something other than 500, just swap out both instances of “500″ with the proper width.
I haven’t really cracked a way to make it fully media responsive yet. It does work to paste this same code in the sections of your theme responsible for media screen sizes (should be labeled something like “media only screen”) and swap the ‘500′ with the width that is being specified there. In my case I had to subtract some pixels from the number I entered in order to account for proper margin/padding. I also had to add a CSS “!important” after both height and width (placed right before each semicolon) in order for it to actually take effect. Trouble is, I could only do this for ONE of the specified media screen sizes, not both (my blog has two.) So, that leaves one screen size unaccounted for. At the very least, it’s no longer ugly on regular desktop view and one other screen size of your choice. (If anyone has a more responsive fix lmk!)
There are a variety of reasons why I don't like the new media player. I don't like the scrolling tiktok-ification, I find the background colour and text distracting from the images and videos I'm trying to watch, I miss the pause button. But mostly, I hate how often I see this:
About a third of all videos I encounter now just glitch out. Going to people's blogs to view them doesn't fix it, so the only solution I've found is to copy the link into my mobile browser, banish all the suggestions that I download the app, and wouldn't I like to get a Tumblr account of my own and "oh btw we leave cookies tee-hee" to eventually watch the video in my browser.
Like I get it, you're trying new things, you want a fresh userbase, and you think that being identical to every other platform is the way to go (it isn't), but even considering that, do you think that maybe having a consistently *functional* media player might be something we can all enjoy?
