the thing about logan saying “i need you” to roman is that he’s not even lying. but he means in the wrong way, the sick and sad way. roman fulfills a need for him: the need for someone to hold under his thumb and manipulate, the need for someone loyal to help him exercise his power to his fullest. for logan these are psychological and to an extent, business needs, and roman’s kicked-puppy syndrome fits the description. logan does need roman, but not in any way that values roman as a person or even a beloved child. and roman can’t tell that distinction. he just knows his dad needs him and that’s good enough.
