i saw someone point out the frequency with which liberals back social justice movements... how, for instance, when ferguson happened under obama it was not popular and there were many, many liberals who found the blm movement, in a sense, "in violation of [liberal] sensibilities" (when liberalism as a rule does not challenge the status quo, only maintains it and sees any call for revolution or real change as disruptive or 'bad for optics' and therefore not acceptable) but then when trump became president and he opposed blm a lot more liberals decided that the blm movement had merit because they viewed it from a team-sports perspective rather than a worldview based on morals and an understanding of the systems in place in the U.S. - that it was more comfortable for them to operate from a "trump bad" basis rather than "the american justice system and the police are inherently white supremacist, which are inherently, automatically, and always violent"
+ that, if trump was president while israel is carrying out its genocide, liberals would have NO problem denouncing israel and demanding for a ceasefire because they're comfortable operating from the 2-party system basis, NOT from a framework based on material conditions or factors or any acknowledgement or analysis of imperialism, colonialism, or capitalism. but because biden is a democrat, and democrats are supposed to be "the decent party" "the lesser evil" "more respectable" when, in functionality - in real practice, they don't want to disrupt the status quo. (internally, maintaining systems of white supremacy and capitalism; externally, furthering U.S. imperialism by maintaining hegemony and continuing the practice of exploitation and extraction of labor+capital+resources from the global south)
which is why we're here, a month into a genocide, and liberals are so cowardly and gutless that, in the face of our democrat president allowing and funding the genocide of palestinians in order for the U.S. to maintain its military base in the middle east, liberals IMMEDIATELY jump to "well, you HAVE to vote for him still, because trump will be worse!" and go "well im powerless there's nothing i can do", immediately folding like a wet paper bag in the face of the american empire rearing its ugly head in the most blatant, naked way in years, instead of thinking "this is unacceptable, i should pressure my elected officials and do everything i can - be it combating propaganda, contacting my congresspeople or senators, protesting, or engaging in direct action - to ensure this stops as quickly as possible".
there are liberals STILL IN MY NOTIFICATIONS who go "well you'll be electing a fascist if you vote for trump" not realizing that YOU CAN'T SIMPLY VOTE FASCISM AWAY. (which is not to say you should vote for republicans; that's not what i'm saying. none of us have said it.) we're pretty much already there. it's 2003 all over again, with the patriot act and all. the american war machine is pumping out racist, orientalist, pro-colonial, pro-genocide propaganda on behalf of the ethno-state america and its allies have backed since the so-called state's inception. people are being doxxed, fired, harassed, and attacked for visibly supporting palestine/opposing israel. islamophobic hate crimes are on the rise; a 6 year old boy was murdered not one month ago, an arab doctor in texas was stabbed to death. antisemitism is on the rise as well, thanks to the conflation of antisemitism with anti-zionism (which nazis have and will attempt to co-op in order to 'justify' + then act on their antisemitism, racism, and genocidal worldviews). our government is silencing people, brutalizing protestors, and arming and funding an ethno-state committing genocide - everything that would have been called fascist if it was under trump. but because it's a *democrat* liberals place "vote blue no matter who" and "optics" over the extremely basic moral stance that "genocide is wrong and people have the right to self-determination, autonomy, and life". arabs and muslims are already so dehumanized in the west that liberals (whether they consider themselves liberals or not) consider it an inconvenience to talk about the ongoing genocide that is happening with the blessing of OUR government. in this they expose their selfishness, the shallowness of their morals, their chauvinism, and their racism/orientalism/islamophobia/et cetera.
for example, if you see israeli troops waving a gay pride flag and the israeli state touting its support of gay people while said iof soldiers are murdering men, women, and children en masse every single day and you somehow????? think that because gay people are the ones doing the killing or a state claims to support gay people is doing the killing is ok then 1) you have fallen for pinkwashing propaganda and 2) that you find the murder of palestinians, or any people, permissible by a colonial force that uses causes liberals may genuinely care about in order to disguise, whitewash, or "lessen" the severity of the injustices it does unto usually black and brown people outside of the U.S., then you are just as bloodthirsty and depraved as anyone you would personally assign those descriptors of.
once again, it goes back to resorting to a team-sport understanding of the world rather than approaching it from a material one.

Twitter feels like an even split between pro-Palestine supporters and the most horrific kind of racists, Zionists and white supremacists. Tumblr is by comparison overwhelmingly in support of Palestine. And yet the level of dehumanization, isolation, Othering and casual racism on here is so much more unbearable and suffocating than Twitter could ever be.
Tumblr wants to be seen as the anti-racist good guys on the right side of history while reinforcing the racist white supremacist western-centric status quo. Black and brown people are given platform under strict conditions of what values can be challenged and how far white comfort can be pushed. It's on Twitter that we have our own communities, our own power of advocacy, and a collective drive to interrogate and dismantle structures of power.
It reinforces what I have known for a long time— Tumblr's hatred of Twitter and TikTok is based primarily on refusing to tolerate the reality of equal representation, leftist action and racial justice. A true diversity of power and perspectives is messy, chaotic, conflict-driven and upends the sense of stability and space that can only come with a homogeneity of racial demographic. The majority of disenfranchised people understands that power structures and bureaucracies are built on purpose to exclude them — the poor, the sex workers, the incarcerated, the ghettoised, the disabled, the colonized. We have to fight to be heard, and our reality and political investment cannot be separated from the minority trauma that informs them. True equality entails not having to funnel that trauma through behaviour and ethics that makes their expression more palatable or considering of others; it removes all respectability politics and allows us to behave with the same unpunished toxicity that is unleashed on us by white and western people. Conflict, cacophony and having to tolerate the untempered emotions and self-interest of all groups is the price of true diversity and honest dialogue. It also primarily empowers Black and brown people and disempowers whites. In contrast, the "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" on predominantly white-driven and Western-oriented spaces is a simply a neoliberal farce that requires us to perform our own humanity and ask validation from whiteness. This is why you see only the worst aspects and negative effects of Twitter and TikTok and use them to reject the the platforms wholesale while creating a narrative of moral superiority around Tumblr's relatively low levels of conflict and glossing over the receding presence of Black and brown people in its userbase.
Race is not a layer of oppression. It's the fundamental bisection that creates the underclass on which the colonial capitalist world order is built. It's the caste hierarchy of humanity; who gets to be labourer and profiteer, the exploiter and exploited, the worker and producer, the consumer and consumed, the masses and the individual. The living bodies and embodied lives. The experience of every other marginalization is shaped by its waters. White women and queers will neither understand nor share in the oppression of women and QPoC from both diasporas and the Global South. Even further, every marginalization becomes a weapon against BIPOC in the hands of its white demographic. Black and brown people of those marginalized communities will always only be a token and shield for their white counterparts, while being the workhorses behind their struggles.
It doesn't matter how many times you post "Free Palestine" when we know its only the product of your preoccupation with your own personal moral landscape. Politics based on egoism will always be eclipsed by threats to your material reality. This is why a userbase that spent its entire existence grandstanding against Nazis now cannot see Zionists as Nazis and begs people to participate in a political establishment that has revealed itself to be a genocidal white supremacist regime in the clearest possible terms. Fascism against its own enfranchised is the end stage of an empire that has begun to collapse under the weight of its war-mongering and now resorts to eating itself to survive. No amount of moral distance between yourselves and its machinery of death, no amount of scapegoating the lives crushed underneath it, will stop the roofs you sheltered under falling on top of you. This the truth that the colonized, enslaved and indentured people that built your house have lived all along.

i'm only seeing more idiots in the notes of palestinians' posts claiming they're scams, despite never bothering to prove that. they just think they're scams because idk. they're assholes and they're privileged and they think that palestinians should just die and there's nothing we can do to help.

Hey. People making fucking fanart for Kamala Harris. Could you maybe devote some time and energy to supporting Palestinians?
You know. The people Harris’s boss is dropping bombs on. The people Harris has refused to say she won’t drop bombs on. Those people. Those people for whom drawing art for actually, provably helps them escape genocide.
In no world does Tumblr Harris fanart help her get elected. In this world, art for vetted fundraisers saves lives. Maybe it even makes you feel a bit better about voting for her when she’s probably going to kill more children once she’s in office. Whatever.
At least you’d be doing something that would help someone, instead of ghoulishly propagandizing for the child-murdering establishment.

So I found this letter:
It calls on all 200 members of the Biden administration to resign in protest of Biden actively supplying a genocide. It gets sent to all 200 as well, so do your part! It may sound odd to some, but if our protests and calls don't work, we can influence those in our government to at least do something!

Tried to tell someone that Zionism is about white supremacy, Islamophobia and colonial capitalism and to stop centering western antisemitism when the whole reason that Palestinian Christians aren't protected by Christian Zionists is that they're the wrong race. And they blocked me.
Twenty thousand dead and y'all are still not done shutting down BIPOC and Muslims lol. You're not equal victims as colonized people and you never have been. Colonized natives of settler societies and people from Africa and Asia will never be white, and always be vulnerable to and exploited by white Europeans, no matter their own regional disenfranchisement. Zionism is about race, not religion. Religion is just a convenient alignment and rationale for US imperial interests i.e military industrial economy, weapons trade, shipping lines and gas reserves. Your white asses are the beneficiaries and will be last in the line to be eaten after the Black people, brown immigrants, Muslims in their own damn countries, and Natives. Every time you deny it, you're showing your refusal to divest from white anxiety and become more complicit in Zionism. Die mad.

Obviously there are good and bad ways of presenting this info (ffs PLEASE let's not with the antisemitic conspiracy theory rhetoric, guys, this is a very standard case of war profiteering with a hefty side order of sucking up to and/or acting as a proxy for the United States. Many other countries have behaved similarly) but it is very much a matter of well-documented historical record that the state of Israel sold a whole lot of guns (+ munitions, planes, etc) to Latin American military dictatorships during the Cold War, and in many cases also provided "military advisors" and "counterinsurgency training." Among the reasons it is a matter of historical record is that officials in eg the Ríos Montt government simply could not stop publicly crowing about all the great Israeli advice they were getting and how much inspiration they drew from the way that the state of Israel handled Palestinians.
Again, good and bad ways to present this info. But it very much did happen, very much does still happen in some form, and very much does inform Palestinian solidarity movements in the region, so it makes me uncomfortable at best to see people treat it like misinfo.

Uh-oh! It's "radical propaganda!"
Every time I talk to my stepdad about communism/socialism, the conversation goes noticeably smoother when I repeatedly remind him that HE IS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO WOULD RECEIVE ALL THE BENEFITS I AM TALKING ABOUT.
People brainwashed by capitalism have such a hard time digesting the idea that SOMEONE ELSE receiving something good... is a good thing. Because under capitalism, everything - EVERYTHING - is affected by manufactured scarcity, so if someone else GETS something, it means unequivocally that YOU did NOT get that thing. This applies to everything: homes, jobs, food, money, medicine, and just about everything else. Life is literally a competition, and the reward is a comfortable life.
One of the most elementary rules of free trade is supply and demand. So naturally, you can increase profit by either lowering supply or raising demand. Raising demand can be difficult, but lowering supply is easy - just produce less of it. Then you can justify raising prices by saying, "Well, we had low supply!" It's a two-fold profit-boosting strategy because not only are you charging an arm and a leg for your product, but you're also decreasing the cost of production.
Or you can just lie. Say "supplies are low" then raise the prices and everyone will understand, AND you have more product to sell.
Anyways, the point is that capitalism is a manipulative, deceptive, opportunistic system meant to simulate a worse version of the intentionally misinterpreted darwinian philosophy of "survival of the fittest," except being fit means little compared to being born lucky.
... and a more equity-oriented government system that DOESN'T intentionally marginalize its own people and deprive them of the resources they need to live is, I would argue, preferable.
Use whatever word you want - socialist, communist, democrat, whatever. I just want my disabled mom to have the option to live on her own if she wanted to, without being forced to do work that she can't do for money that won't even pay rent, let alone pay her medical bills. Luckily, she has a husband with a good job - he is, let me be clear, the ONLY reason she is not homeless or worse.
Capitalist pigs call her a "free loader" or "a waste."
Socialists and communists call her a woman who isn't getting the help she needs.
Capitalists pigs call me, a trans person, "sex offender" or "rapist" or "brain washer."
Socialists and communists call me someone who shouldn't have to hide for my own safety
So idk what I am, but if I had to share a drink with a capitalist or a communist, I'm sharing a drink with the communist.
(PS: Read the tags for a little anti-zionist message as well. My heart goes out to Palestine - don't let anyone tell you that you don't have the right to live or that you're choosing the "unethical" way to crawl out of hell. To say that zionists give the jewish people a bad name is the understatement of the millenia; zionists have wasted their chances. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.)

Where’s that post about how people are so focused on the protests being violently suppressed we no longer hear about the genocide? Not that it isn’t a huge deal that protests are being violently suppressed, but it feels like the reason they are even protesting is getting lost and the support is shifting from the Palestinians who desperately need help, towards the students.
