Ghost Guard A few months ago, I decided to learn a bit of Unity to boost my skills as an artist. I took ThatOneUnityDev's "Unity 2.5D Turn-Based RPG" course and created my own assets for the project. It was both interesting and challenging, and here’s what I ended up with! The concept was super simple: have Ghost Guardian chase and stop a naughty Teen Ghost who's disturbing the peaceful cemetery. Special thanks to compositor, who wrote music theme: Danonwa ([email protected])

Spell that makes you goo
Luckily I already have the logic for the player to bounce on gooey floors, and the easiest way to code the goo transformation is to pretend all floors are goo when in that state

Andy Jam Devlog #1
Hi everybody! I uploaded a rough version of the first devlog to Patreon. It will go public after it sees a few editing passes, but if you're a supporter you can watch it now. It is mostly going over the Unity build, and there's a little footage of the new Unreal Engine build. It is hopefully entertaining, and gives a good overview of the project, where we've been, what we're leaving behind, where we're going, and what we're taking with us. Also:

Unity Excellence: Key Strategies for Game Development
Unity has become one of the most popular game development platforms due to its powerful features, flexibility, and ease of use. Whether you're an indie developer or part of a larger studio, mastering Unity can significantly impact the quality and success of your games. Here are some key strategies to excel in Unity game development.
1. Plan Thoroughly Before You Start
Before diving into development, have a clear plan. Define your game concept, target audience, core mechanics, and visual style. Create detailed documentation, including storyboards and flowcharts, to guide your game development process. Proper planning helps avoid scope creep and keeps the project on track.
2. Learn and Utilize Unity's Features
Unity offers a plethora of features and tools. Familiarize yourself with the Unity Editor, scripting, asset management, physics, lighting, and animation systems. Take advantage of Unity's extensive documentation and tutorials. Explore Unity's Asset Store for ready-made assets, which can save time and enhance your game.
3. Optimize for Performance
Performance optimization is crucial for delivering a smooth gaming experience. Use Unity's Profiler to identify and address performance bottlenecks. Optimize your assets by reducing polygon counts, using efficient textures, and minimizing draw calls. Implement efficient coding practices, such as object pooling, to improve performance.
4. Focus on User Experience (UX)
A great user experience can make or break your game. Ensure your game has intuitive controls, smooth navigation, and clear instructions. Test your game with real users to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments. Prioritize accessibility to reach a broader audience.
5. Implement Effective Testing and Debugging
Testing is an integral part of game development. Regularly test your game to identify and fix bugs early. Use Unity's built-in testing tools, such as the Unity Test Framework, to automate testing processes. Debugging tools like the Console and Debugger can help track down and resolve issues efficiently.
6. Leverage Multiplayer Capabilities
If your game includes multiplayer features, utilize Unity's networking solutions. Unity offers tools like the Unity Multiplayer Service and Photon Unity Networking to help you implement multiplayer functionality. Ensure your multiplayer experience is seamless and lag-free.
7. Stay Updated with the Latest Trends and Technologies
The gaming industry is constantly evolving. Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices. Follow Unity’s official blog, join Unity forums, and participate in game development communities. Continuous learning will keep your skills sharp and relevant.
8. Collaborate and Share Knowledge
Game development often involves teamwork. Collaborate effectively with artists, designers, and other developers. Use version control systems like Git to manage code and assets collaboratively. Share your knowledge and learn from others by participating in game jams, forums, and online communities.
9. Focus on Visual and Audio Quality
High-quality visuals and audio significantly enhance the gaming experience. Pay attention to detail in your character designs, environments, and animations. Use Unity’s audio tools to create immersive soundscapes. Balance aesthetics with performance to deliver a visually stunning and smooth experience.
10. Monetize Wisely
If you plan to monetize your game, choose the right strategy. Options include in-app purchases, ads, premium versions, or subscriptions. Ensure your monetization approach aligns with your game’s design and provides value to players without being intrusive.
