Yeah I getcha. I was once like you. Pure and naive. Great news. I AM STILL PURE AND NAIVE, GAME DEV IS FUN! But where to start?

To start, here are a couple of entry level softwares you can use! source: I just made a game called In Stars and Time and people are asking me how to start making vidy gaems. Now, without further ado:

Bitsy: Little topdown games! ✨Pros: It's free! It's simple! It's (somewhat) intuitive! It has great documentation! It can be used even if you have LITERALLY no programming experience! You can make everything in it, from text to sprites to code! Those games sure are small! ✨Cons: Those games sure are small. This is to make THE simplest game. Barely any animation for your sprites, can barely fit a line of text in there. But honestly, the restrictions are refreshing! Some games to look at: honestly I haven't played that many bitsy games because i am a fake gamer. The picture above is from Under A Star Called Sun though and that looks so pretty

RPGMaker: To make RPGs! LIKE ME!!!!! NOTE: I recommend getting the latest version if you can, but all have their pros and cons. You can get a better idea by looking at this post. ✨Pros: Literally everything you need to make an RPG. Has a tutorial inside the software itself that will teach you the basics. Pretty simple to understand, even if you have no coding experience! Also I made a post helping you out with RPGMaker right here! ✨Cons: Some stuff can be hard to figure out. Also, the latest version is expensive. Get it on sale! Some games to look at: Yume Nikki, Hylics, In Stars and Time (hehe. I made it)

engine.lol: collage worlds! it is relatively new so I don't know much about it, but it seems fascinating. picture is from Garden! NOTE: There's a bunch of smaller engines to find out there. Just yesterday I found out there's an Idle Game Maker made by the Cookie Clicker creator. Isn't life wonderful?

ENGINES I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AND THEY SEEM HARD BUT ALSO GIVE IT A TRY I GUESS!!!! :

Unity and Unreal: I don't know anything about those! That looks hard to learn! But indie devs use them! It seems expensive! Follow your dreams though! Don't ask me how!

GameMaker: Wuh I just don't know anything about it either! I just know it's now free if your game is non-commercial (aka, you're not selling it), and Undertale was made on it! It seems good! You probably need some coding experience though!!!

Godot: Man I know even less about this one. Heard good things though!

BUNCHA RANDOM ADVICE!!!!

-Make something small first! Try making simple: a character is in a room, and exits the room. The character can look around, decide to take an item with them, can leave, and maybe the door is locked and you have to find the key. Figuring out how to code something like that, whether it is as a fully text-based game or as an RPGMaker map, should be a good start to figure out how your software of choice works!

-After that, if you have an idea, try first to make the simplest version of that idea. For my timeloop RPG, my simplest version was two rooms: first room you can walk in, second room with the King, where a cutscene automatically plays and the battle starts, you immediately die, and loop back to the first room, with the text from this point on reflecting this change. I think I also added a loop counter. This helped me figure out the most important thing: Can This Game Be Made? After that, the rest is just fun stuff. So if you want to make a dating sim, try and figure out how to add choices, and how to have affection points go up and down depending on your choices! If you want to make a platformer, figure out how to make your character move and jump and how to create a simple level! If you just want to make a kinetic visual novel with no choices, figure out how to add text, and how to add portraits! You'll be surprised at how powerful you'll feel after having figured even those simple things out.

-If you have a programming problem or just get confused, never underestimate the power of asking Google! You most likely won't be the only person asking this question, and you will learn some useful tips! If you are powerful enough, you can even… Ask people??? On forums??? Not me though.

-Yeah I know you probably want to make Your Big Idea RIGHT NOW but please. Make a smaller prototype first. You need to get that experience. Trust me.

-If you are not a womanthing of many skills like me, you might realize you need help. Maybe you need an artist, or a programmer. So! Game jams on itch.io are a great way to get to work and meet other game devs that have different strengths! Or ask around! Maybe your artist friend secretly always wanted to draw for a game. Ask! Collaborate! Have fun!!!

✨Guide to Getting The Beekeeper's Picnic Running on Mac✨

So the bad news is, all of the "get your game made using the Adventure Game Studio game engine easily ported into Mac!" guides that I've found aren't resulting in something which... actually runs. I think an official Beekeeper's Picnic macOS release is going to require me to outsource to someone who has more of an idea about what they're doing, and that'll take more time :c

But the good news is...

I have found a pretty easy temporary solution in the form of ScummVM, a program designed to let you play many classic graphical point-and-click adventure games. And BKP, apparently.

So, here are some steps on how to use it:

Firstly, you'll want to get the itch.io version of The Beekeeper's Picnic. Download the Windows version, and double click on the Zip file to unzip it.

2. Download ScummVM.

3. When you open ScummVm for the first time, it'll look like this. Click Add game...

4. Select the 'Windows' folder that you unzipped. When Scumm comes back with what it's found in that folder, click 'The Beekeeper's Picnic' and then 'Choose'

5. At this point, Scumm might get very confused. It might panic. It might show you a message that looks something like this:

You must shush it like a skittish horse and click 'Add anyway'.

6. Then a screen will come up with lots of tabs and options. I just kept everything as default and clicked 'Ok'

7. You can now select The Beekeeper's Picnic and click Start! And it should run!

Some stuff to be aware of

This works on the couple of Macs I've been able to test it on. I don't know if it will work for everyone. If you buy the game and it doesn't work give me a shout and I'll be happy to refund!

I'd advise saving the game often, just in case. I haven't extensively tested it in Scumm, so better play it safe.

You won't get automatic updates, so you might watch to check back on Itch.io from time to time to make sure you have the latest version.

You can play other point and click adventures this way! Why not treat yourself to Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Rose Tattoo while you're at it? It's my favourite!

Random Obey Me! Headcanons Part 2

During the first year of the exchange program and when MC couldn't fend for themselves yet, the only way they were allowed out of the house "alone" was with Cerberus accompanying them. And when I tell you the hellhound did an amazing job at protecting them… all it took was a slightly off-putting stare at MC for it to send back the most terrifying glare and loud growl at the demon eyeing them. These outings of theirs once resulted in a pretty infamous picture going viral, where MC was mindlessly buying ice cream at a stall while Cerberus was beside them giving off the most ominous aura as all its heads glared at someone off-screen. You can imagine all the memes that came from it.

When Satan was a baby he used to have constant nightmares about the war and would always wake up screaming and crying, waking up everyone with him. Because of this Lucifer would have to stay up at ungodly hours of the night trying everything he could to calm him down, having to rock the tiny demon in his arms for hours around the corridors till he eventually went back to sleep. At some point Diavolo suggested that he read for Satan, as it was a less energy-draining method. And although Lucifer didn't really see the point given that Satan was a baby and couldn't even understand words yet, he gave it a shot anyway. It ended up working, to both his relief and surprise.

When Mammon first realized he could both understand and tell crows what to do he thought he was going insane. And the brothers were all sure he was lying when he first told them of his ability, having to see firsthand Mammon order around an army of crows as if it was nothing. They were definitely left speechless that day.

Asmo has a podcast where he mainly talks with other famous influencers from the Devildom and demons in the fashion or music industry. All the brothers participated in an episode at some point, and so did MC, the Purgatory Hall crew, and Diavolo.

If MC has a similar clothing style to Mammon's, he'll let them have the clothes he doesn't use anymore. And there's a TON of them, since he buys so many just out of greed and never bothers wearing them more than two or three times.

A few months into the exchange program Diavolo came up with an idea to have the whole gang ( HoL, Purgatory Hall, and the Demon Lord's Castle ) meet up monthly to hang out, have dinner together, etc. It was another way he found to strengthen the bonds between everyone, and no one was allowed to miss it. In the beginning it was a chore to participate but now everyone gets excited when the end of the month starts coming around and they can meet again.

This one time when the brothers were all drunk playing stupid games together they decided that whoever ended up last would have to get an embarrassing tattoo of whatever the others chose. Belphie lost, and to this day the brothers still crack up whenever they catch a glimpse of the small tattoo on his rib that reads "baby of the family". Belphie always gets pissy about it, making them tease him even more.

(lesson 16 spoilers) I went into more detail about this in another post but I believe MC also carries memories from the Celestial War because of their connection to Lilith. And this is something that brings them closer to Satan, since as mentioned before, he also has memories of that time but from Lucifer's perspective. Aka, trauma bonding ✨

Following the tattoo headcanon, Belphie definitely lied to MC about the rib tattoo at first since they didn't couldn't understand Infernal and didn't know what it said. Man 100% told them it meant something else and made up some deep story behind it to make himself look cool or whatever. But it all came crumbling down when everyone went on a trip to the beach and the brothers brought up his "adorable tattoo". He never felt so embarrassed in his life.

Ever since finding out about pride month, Asmo made it into a thing to visit the human realm every year to celebrate it by going to the biggest parade happening that year. And he always drags the brothers with him, making sure to pick outfits for Belphie, Beel, and Lucifer since none of them know how to "dress properly for pride." He just can't let what happened the first time they went happen again, with everyone at the parade wearing colorful and beautifully elaborate clothing while these 3 looked completely out of place ( Lucifer was wearing a full black suit, just so you have an idea. So yeah, he was sticking out in the crowd like crazy ).

As a joke, every time Father's Day comes up the characters go around giving Lucifer, Barbatos, and Simeon shitty gifts and wishing them "Happy Father's Day". But not Beel, who even though knows everyone's doing it for a bit, still gives them a genuine gift and a sincere smile every time. Because let's be honest, these three deserve some actual acknowledgment for raising their troublesome children-not-children. ( Fun fact: Diavolo gives Barbatos both a gag gift and an actual one, and Luke gives Simeon a gift while trying to make it seem like he's just doing it for the joke, though it's obvious he means it. )

Long ago when anime wasn't a thing yet Levi used to be obsessed with marine life. He had extensive knowledge of it and would be pulling random ocean facts out of nowhere and leaving everyone confused. And he absolutely loved sharks, like, you know those people that'll go into great detail to explain why our perception of sharks is fucked and they're actually sweethearts? Yup, that was Levi. Also, if you said your favorite animals were dolphins? Oh, you'd be seeing the most disgusted look show up on his face. ( He'd too explain that dolphins are evil and why you shouldn't like them at all, completely ruining your view of them )

Since Asmo, Beel, and Levi are represented by cold-blooded animals ( a scorpion, a fly, and a serpent ) I headcanon that they can't generate a lot of body heat and touching their skin when it's cold would feel like coming in contact with freezing ice and definitely not the move if you're looking for warmth. Lucifer, Mammon, Satan, and Belphie though? These 4 become MC's personal heaters when winter comes around, and you better bet they're demanding cuddles from all of them ( cold-blooded gang be jealous as fuck of this ).

Solomon puts weird shit on what he cooks on purpose just to fuck with everyone. His grandpa ass finds it absolutely hilarious how everyone tries to keep him away from the kitchen at all costs while simultaneously doing everything to avoid outright saying his cooking is terrible because they don't want to hurt his feelings. Because come on, how does a man who's lived this long on his own not know how to cook? He can follow strict instructions to make the weirdest potions ever but not a recipe to make a simple dinner? Nah, I don't buy it. He definitely knows how to cook and does a decent job at making food for himself when he wants to.

Everyone says how sonamy would be reverse in movie verse (sonic pursues after amy) but i do find it interesting that amy's dynamic with metal sonic is reverse from games and near same to game sonic's dynamic with metal sonic:

game amy went out her way to help metal sonic to reunite with eggman in that one christmas special to where she gave him a flower and ribbon to him despite how the fact he literally kidnapped her before and game sonic constantly fights which he always destroys metal sonic so much however it never sticks since metal can just be rebuild anew to fight sonic all over again which metal just needs one chance to kill him so he'll be the one true sonic

Movie amy has to been fighting metal sonic so much that she's able to destroy his copies with ease in the post credits scene meaning she's used to fighting and destroying him so much at that point but metal just needs one chance to kill her since she's organic with one life while he's a robot that can just be rebuild anew after being destroyed thus I doubt movie amy would treat metal like that one sonic mania christmas short

You're absolutely right, the dynamic between Amy and Metal is completely changed to be more Game Sonic and Game Metal and I think that was intentional!

But it wasn't Metal who changed. He's still the same robot who despises Sonic and who was programmed by Robotinik - since I believe that Ivo is alive and that he was sent to the past, landing on Little Planet due to the temporal properties of the place - to kill the hedgehog.

What changed was Amy. And I'm not talking about her personality.

I believe that Amy's core will remain the same as in the games: kind, loving, gentle, adventurous, a daredevil who hates the mundane life, merciful and basically the representation of unconditional love in the series. As we saw in the Christmas special.

What would change would be the circumstances around her.

Because I believe Amy Rose's character will be based on: "What if the event where Little Planet was taken over by Robotinik and Metal happened...but Sonic wasn't there? What if these two angry antagonists had this power but not the intended target? What if Amy went through everything she went through without ever having met Sonic in the first place?"

The truth is Sonic will always win.

But what if he wasn't there to face these two? What if the events that led Amy and Sonic to meet happened...in a universe where they never met?

Sonic's absence turns Metal's entire threat to Amy from a simple dirty trick to nightmare fuel.

In the movies, she'd never meet Sonic at the time of Ivo and Metal's invasion of Little Planet (which here would be her home planet) because this mess would only happen because Eggman became a temporal anomaly, starting an invasion that never existed in the original past and creating a new sequence of events that would literally be a timeline of a Bad Future.

In the games and the special, Amy knows that Metal is a creation of Robotinik to defeat Sonic and that her kidnapping was just a way for him to achieve the target of his programming and although the robot is bad, she knows that he will come back regardless of what she does because Robotinik will always rebuild him.

Above all, Amy sees him being defeated. As he is no match for the real Sonic. In the movies, Amy know nothing about Metal. She doesn't know who he is made in the image of, why or if he can be defeated.

Not only that, without Sonic in the scene, it's very likely that Metal captured Amy for a much more direct and personal reason.

All aliens with quills seem to have an affinity for Chaos Energy, and hedgehogs more than anyone else. A very valuable resource for Robotinik, without a doubt. I believe it was because Ivo captured her Chaos Energy, with the idea of taking advantage of Amy's powers - which I bet is the ability to manipulate time and see futures - to further improve the robot army.

Since Metal, even though it was made in the image of Sonic and one of his quills, also works on the basis of pink chaos energy.

And now Amy went from a girl who knew she wasn't the real target, and who had a hero to rescue her, to a victim of experimentation and exploitation by a domineering madman she knows nothing about with a weapon that is virtually impossible to destroy.

Not only that, she is more reminiscent of Sonic's position in the games because now Amy also has a place alongside him as the one who fights Metal, since he's now empowered with her chaos energy as well.

The energy whose that only the original generator can combat with minimal damage. Like Sonic and Ivo in Sonic 1, Knuckles in the series and Shadow surviving the ray with his own energy. Amy would now have part of the responsibility for the defeat of this machine.

Even if it doesn't work a 100% because although he has some of her abilities, Metal Sonic's image is not built on Amy. She doesn't have the necessary skills to defeat Metal, only to delay him at best. Rivaling and winning even temporarily against him (probably with her vision of the future).

Amy isn't Sonic. She needs him if she wants to win and ironically she's going to have Fate-ish lead her to him anyway.

Except she doesn't know that here. Because she's never seen him in her life. As far as Amy knows, she's been trying and failing in a fight where Little Planet and now Earth depend only on her until she meets Sonic, seeing the boy become the image of the robot she's been fighting for years...and a light at the end the tunnel.

This robot and its creator invaded, colonized and destroyed her home, were responsible for sending him to Earth as a refugee - after she probably escaped alone or with help (traumatic either way) - and have been chasing her to this day, making her fight for her own freedom and that of others for years.

So yeah, the girl saw tragedy enough in the hands of this robot to have a flick of compassion to him.

✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #11 | 05.08.24

AHA! Nope, we didn't forget about April's devlog. In fact, we have been busier than ever—doing early preparations for our Kickstarter, working on the demo, sorting out legal stuff...

Speaking of which...

This month we have been really busy making our studio official by the law! Now, to pay taxes and cry! YAY!

We are very very excited about it—and also terrified! We are still sorting out the studio's bank account, as burocracy isn't the fastest thing in this world, sadly. This is the first thing I wanted to talk about in this devlog, because it's such fantastic news for us! :')

Now, let's jump on the process we've made this past month, shall we? ✨

This past month, Raquel worked very hard on our second Key Art. This was originally made for Steam, but I modified the format a bit so it could also be used in other places! I honestly love this one—we have our first Key Art to represent the darker aspects of the game, and then this one to show off the characters' dynamics! Not everything's going to be horror and mystery in the game!✨💜

Also, we have been working on designing the merch for the Kickstarter, but we can't show anything yet. All we can say is that everything is looking gorgeous and we are so excited to share it eventually!

Thanks to Airyn, we've made great progress with the backgrounds! In fact, there's only one left to finish. The one you see above needs a few final touches (that will be made by yours truly!), and then I'll animate it a bit to get it ready for the build! The rest of the backgrounds are finished, animated, and integrated in the build :3

Well, this should tell you everything you need to know when it comes to programming! The whole demo is programmed. Functional. Nothing crashes. Stuff works and I'm over cloud nine. I have been working on the final touches (revisiting scenes, checking sprites, music / sfx volume...) and the beta testing phase will begin soon. Soon as in tomorrow.

We've mainly used this month to review the auditions we received for our casting call, contacting the selected VAs, etc. Every VA has accepted their role, received the document with the lines we'll need for the demo, and we'll work hard to announce the cast publicly as soon as possible! We want to at least do a promotional short video showcasing every LI and their VA!

Sadly, making the studio official has (and will) take more time than we anticipated, and as we want to release the demo on Steam, the review process will most likely slow us down. There's the option of doing an itchio release and then a Steam one, but I'm not sure if that'll hurt the project. We are still keeping the demo release date a secret, until things settle down!

Also, I couldn't finish this devlog without talking about the Magic & Mystery Otome cross-promotion! ✨ We were invited by the amazing folks at Best Laid Plans Studios to participate in this event that showcases 12 amazing visual novels like Alaris, Obscura, Dual Chroma and more! I know I have been pretty annoying with this (can you blame me, though?!) so I won't keep rambling about it—just check everyone out, please!

I think that's all! Well, that's not all, but we gotta keep a bit of mystery surrounding the demo! We have been busy bees this month, with the making of the studio, the polishing of the demo, contacting and coordinating the VAs...

We are so excited for the demo release. I'm personally excited and terrified, but blame it on the OCD. I keep jumping from catastrophic scenario to catastrophic scenario. I'll have no control over what happens when the demo goes live, but I have control on what I can do before that happens—and that's working as hard as I've been doing this whole time.

Hi! Thank you, I'm glad you like my work. Your support helps me to continue my creative work. For my work in the Sims, I use the Bandicam screenshot program. I also use the old version of GShade so that my presets work. I downloaded other people's presets and reworked them for myself, you can also search for what you like and adjust them for yourself. In the game itself, for screenshots, I use mods such as Teleport, Pose Player, background. Be sure to check that the mods match the new version of the game, otherwise they will not work! After I have made the screenshots, I collect them like a puzzle and process them in Photoshop. This is how I improve the quality of the screenshot. Everything that I have indicated in the links below is approximately what you need so that you know. If something does not match, look for a newer version. Since I do not have an example of my processing at hand now, I will show you an example of the work that I did a month ago. Good luck in your endeavors!

Little rant and brain dump post re: mental health + anxiety* under the cut bc this is one of my only safe spaces to do this (and I think it'll help to just go blaaaaahhhhh into this data ether.) * will try to tag for triggers but I keep seeing conflicting posts about how to do those sort of tags so I'm sorry if it's wrong

Normal programming will resume after this short break. Going to make that one the tag for all future brain dump posts I think.

This time next week I'll have made another big, scary step towards "getting better" (which is typed liked that because I hate that phrase) but I don't know how I'm going to cope or what I'm going to be like on the other side of it.

I'm hoping I'm just overthinking (as usual) but what if it kinda breaks me? I don't think it would; nothing so far has, so why would this be different? I think it's just the anxiety trying to play mind games, but it's still really exhausting and is sucking up any excitement I might have which isn't fun.

I am still excited for everything that could come with this, and I know that it will be a safe place but... I'm still questioning whether I'm ready. Which is ridiculous - I'll never be "ready". I can't even say "prepared" because I've had 5 weeks (incl. this upcoming week) to get myself mentally psyched up, so I'm definitely that.

The worst thing is I don't even feel like I can properly talk about it because it is so trivial (hence the rant and brain dump post - at least I can get this out of my system). I've written down everything that's making me feel anxious about next weekend, and it does help to visualise the words, but it also helps reinforce the idea that it's all dumb and that I should just get over it. It's been 5 years (of this really bad stint); 10 since I was diagnosed; 15+ since it began being a problem for me.

I'm just tired, at this point. Tired of not being able to just do the things that used to bring me joy without either hating every second because ✨lurking panic✨, or because it kills me off mentally (sometimes physically) for about a week or two afterwards.

I have this little picture of little me by my bed. She's been there since I did therapy 4 years ago. I put her there so I could do some inner child work but now I look at her and just think how badly I'm letting her down. She had such hope and promise for the future and I feel like I fucked it up so badly.

ok listen abt the game - it would take me abt a week of nonstop work and it wouldn't be terribly sophisticated on the first pass but i'm so fr i could make it happen. i'm a writer with some cyoa experience, i've got a free basic coding program that does everything u need for a point and click game (i made one on there when i was like 11) and i'm decently competent with it/able to learn what i don't know. so like. say the word. art (backgrounds specifically, I can totally rip characters from comic screenshots if needed) and copyright are the only things in the way.

Hello!! Thank you very much! It is brand new so I don't have a TON for it yet but!!

The main gist is during the pilot when our lovely Pomni was roaming the office portion of the 'Exit' - she happened across a computer with a Command Prompt window open!

Thinking that if she had admin powers she could escape, she used it to set her SELF as it.

Of course- there can only be ONE Ringmaster in a circus , so the programming swapped the two's roles!

( Also Caine got a lovely dash of stress + horror to go! Seeing as he quite literally is an AI designed to keep this game stable + it's players happy.

long, so under the cut

cooking & bento boxes: I've talked about this a couple of times on my blog, but i've lost a ton of weight since summer 2023 (35kg/77lbs to be exact) and while doing that, I've discovered my interest in cooking. I love trying new recipes and uncommon ingredients! I also really enjoy making myself bento boxes for work - they're not pretty, but I really like making myself a little box with a mingle-mangle of everything so I never have to eat the usual boring "Butterbrot" at work (that's what we call a generic slice of bread with some butter, cheese and deli meat in Germany). For tomorrow, I want to make a box with kimchi, some tamagoyaki, a salad with pomegranate dressing, dried chili mangoes and some cookies as a snack. Or maybe a yoghurt with rolled oats, nuts and yuzu jam? We will see how much space I'll have left lol

history & genealogy: I've majored in history (and English), so duh. But I've also been doing some genealogy for a couple of years and found some long lost first cousins of my grandma in the US (our families had been separated since WWII and because my family was in the Soviet Union, they all thought our side of the family had been killed or starved). They had the only surviving wedding photo of my great-grandmother and sent it to us via post, so it "made its way back home" after almost 100 years. Both of those first cousins of my grandma have since passed away, but I am still in contact with one of the sons, who now lives in the UK and we always send each other christmas and birthday cards :)

politics, sociology & cultural stuff: I know a lot of people hate politics, especially currently, but I actually enjoy pondering different ideas and debating others (so long as they keep it relatively civil). Maybe this has to do with me liking history, since you can't really separate history and politics. The same goes for ✨ society ✨ and topics that go more into cultural studies. I guess I just want to make sense of how people and society work. (Fun fact: I was forced to pick a minor during my bachelor's studies and ended up picking sociology because I wanted to try something new, but it took me a WHILE to even understand what it was because the professor was... a character lmao)

the Yakuza games: Self-explanatory really, I love those games. My favourite character by far is Majima, but I also really love Ichiban, Akiyama and Joongi (Joongi's personality really reminds me of a friend of mine, and even he agreed that the similarities are almost creepy lol)

FOSS and other alternatives to US big tech: Yes, I am admittedly sick and tired of Google and Microsoft, but I've genuinely developed an interest in what else is out there over the past couple of months. I've tried a bunch of new programs and apps lately, and some of them are lowkey better than what I've been using previously! There are also some really intriguing things happening in Europe. Turns out PCs and smartphones can be fun, too.

something something childhood best friends becoming enemies

Aster Craine has been slithering into my mind more and more lately and whispering her secrets. I can't claim to know her inside and out yet but we're definitely getting somewhere, and I'm feeling her connection to Octavius begin and the subsequent drama there begin to take shape.

Octavius POV

“What exactly do you want from me?” “I want you to love me.” Bloody hell, is this a reality program? He can’t resist the urge to glance hither and thither for hidden cameras. “Aster, I am gayer than Christmas morning.” Aster only laughs. “Of course you are, don’t be thick. I’m not looking for romance, least of all with you. Good lord.” The somewhat nauseous glance she casts up and down his body is about the most reassuring thing Octavius can possibly imagine. “No, old friend,” she continues, sitting back and folding her hands comfortably in her lap, “I’m talking about loyalty. I want you to accept me as your superior, not because you’re afraid of me or because I outrank you in some sort of arcane bloodline, but because you understand what an alliance with me grants you.” “I see. And that is...?” “Happiness. Prosperity. Stability. And I daresay, a sense of belonging you desperately crave.” He can barely restrain a full-on eye-roll. “I��m no longer a lonely little social reject.” “No, you’re not. Your parents died and you were shipped off to a foreign country to be raised by people who wanted you to be something you’re not, and it made you hard.” Something clipped and asinine is on the tip of his tongue when Aster’s hand darts over the table and takes his with strength and apparent sincerity. “I meant what I said,” she insists. “I miss when we used to be friends. I miss you. You’re family, Octavius.” He itches to pull away and doesn’t dare. It’d only show her she has the power to make him uncomfortable and that’s not a concession he can afford. “And you show your love by having people shot.” “Oh, please,” she says with such a warm smile he almost believes she’s being genuine, and finally releases his hand with a playful slap. “I made sure you were barely nicked. I could’ve killed you easily, but I didn’t. Doesn’t that bring back memories?” Interesting - it does. It’s a stupid thing she’s referring to, something he hasn’t thought about in years: the two of them playing murder. It seemed perfectly normal at the time, taking turns pretending to kill each other. Apparently when you and your best friends’ parents were all mobsters, that’s what you did.  There’s no reason for the shame that prickles across his skin at the thought of being a child. Everybody was, at some point. But it still feels like an inherently shameful thing to be - small, ignorant and helpless.  “So last night was just another one of our games, was it?” he presses, begrudgingly amazed at well she carries herself, brushing off her ambush with good-natured nostalgia. He’s going to have to watch her very carefully. “And now you’ve got your access codes. Everything you need to control the books.” He stands and buttons his jacket in what he hopes is a clear signal to the end of the conversation. “Anything past that, I’m afraid you’ll have to earn it.” Aster’s eyes glitter with something deceptively close to affection. “I accept that challenge, old friend.”

I listen to a bit of everything, but I definitely hit metalcore/djent the hardest—it scratches my brain really nicely lol. For the same reason, I like a lot of electronic music too (I'm in a weird, on-and-off drum and bass phase right now) and more experimental alt pop.

I'm sure everyone knows with how often I've been saying it, buuuut!!

The full version of Stuck in a Yandere Visual Novel...HELP!! is now released and available to play for free!!

Itch is currently down for me so I hope that link I copied from previous posts will work once it goes back up.

At 2.5 years of work, this has been my longest creative project yet. I think I've said everything I could in the post-mortem for the project. It has been a huge mountain for me to climb and I'm glad I finally got through it. A lot of things have changed since I started working on this project, some good, some bad, most of which I can't really discuss. But it is over and I am proud of myself for it.

I'm also really relieved that folks have been enjoying the ending! I was definitely very worried that I did not drop enough hints and it would come way too out of left field.

So once again, thank you everyone for giving my project a chance and sticking with me for 2.5 years to reach the ending. Thank you so much!! 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️ This is more than I've ever dreamed for and I hope I can continue to bring good stories for folks to enjoy!

A Sky of Falling Birds

Once I was done with SYVNH, I got to work on my next big project because I can't sit still. I haven't a marketing plan for SFB yet. It's a very different story and vibe from SYVNH. I think the only similarity are the length of the main character's bangs.

I'm tentatively aiming to release SFB for BAF VN Jam.

Oh god that was terrible, don't put me on the spot like that, me.

Anyways, A Sky of Falling Birds is a yuri-ish visual novel about depression, finding a will to live, and the end of the world.

It's yuri-ish because you have two "love interests" who aren't lovey-dovey to you at all. In fact, one of them might murder you before the game ends. The main portion of the script has been finished at about 20k+ words and the sprites are done. It's time I made a proper roadmap for creation of this VN('s demo).

(Oh, what's that? Does one of their silhouette look familiar? I wonder...)

A Variety of Unnamed BL Projects

+ a named not-BL project

Although SFB is closer to being finished, I can't help but be tempted by these new ideas I have... and start designing for them.

Last time I talked about P^3, I finished the outline. There is still no title. But I worked on some potential designs for the MC and the two LIs.

I am both unhappy and un-done with LI2's outfit. They're actually a bit plain compared to my other designs, but this story's a historical (Victorian) fantasy and only LI2 is close to the upper crust of society that would wear flowing dress... shirts with lots of ribbons.

I'm still working on how to best summarize this story. But perhaps it's a little more "what would you do for family" than love story.

The other BL project, which I've named [BL RPG] is a story set in a modern fantasy society. There is turn based gameplay for this project. I had their designs finished a while back, but I finally put colors to the remainder of the cast for Part 1.

This is a story about kissing boys, taming punks, and maybe over throwing the government.

The last of my "projects I worked on mindlessly now that SYVNH is done" I worked on this past... month is Killer Hiding Place (KHP). This is the next entry into the Kill Series and something I had outlined since last year. I kept trying to start writing it, but I keep running into trouble on how I want to tell the story. I originally intended to do another manga-esque format like that of Exorcist Killing Lie, but this protagonist tends to monologue a lot, making it difficult to put in manga form.

I finished 4 images for a fan project, and I'm still behind on another part of that project 😢 That'll be my focus for this week...

I also did some playtesting for @arimiadev's upcoming BL visual novel Canvas Menagerie!! It's a soft and comfy SoL BL story about the struggles of being an actor.

It also has one of the best lines I've ever read in a visual novel.
