Recently, I found a very strange Naegi sprite, and it's got me thinking a lot about the DR1 Sprite process.
It's from the promotional picture announcing Danganronpa Unlimited Battle, a now defunct iOS/Android game from 2015.
Tumblr media
To some this sprite might look normal, but it is assuredly not. Also, Kirigiri's is off, too. But for the sake of the kind of discussion I'm heading, I'm only going to focus on Naegi for right now.
It's very difficult to navigate the game's files, but I *was* able to pull a clean version of the sprite.
Tumblr media
This sprite is weird for so many reasons. I can't tell if it's even a beta sprite or not. If it is, it looks closer to an SDR2 beta.
To illustrate what I mean, please look at this infograph from a different post of mine, about the standard Naegi default sprite.
Tumblr media
What sticks out to most people, I think, is how different each sprite is (with exception to the last two). The style itself seemed to change, and considering Danganronpa's history, this makes sense. DISTRUST, as it was once called, was going to look and play very differently. It is then no surprised the sprites went through a very different creative process than, say, the SDR2 sprites - when by that point, the team had a clear idea of what the Danganronpa art style was to look like.
For comparison, here's a linear look at how SDR2 sprites are largely created.
Tumblr media
Please excuse the messiness of the chart.
What's notable is the most basic form of these sprites lack line weight. A pen with 0 pressure is used to draw the outline, then the illusion of pen pressure is added by erasing some of the ends. It's an incredibly interesting way to stylize the artwork.
Kuzuryuu is a great example as we have 3 main points in this specific graph: the "draft", the "beta" and the "final". But, as I've covered before, there is sometimes possible other sprites between these 3 points. Think of it like v.1.0, v.2.0, v.3.0 - while all the minor renditions (that, for some reason, Spike keeps around and keep accidentally misusing) are akin to v.1.1, v.2.1, v.2.2, etc...
And while I still believe my original theory I posed about SDR2 sprites being a 3-step-process is mostly true, I do think specific sprites or characters have more or less steps in between each "level".
For extra reference, here is some other sprite comparisons:
Tumblr media
So, with all of these examples, I think you can see a clear process within SDR2's sprites.
Back to Naegi, and what confuses me...
I made a chart for this specific sprite.
Tumblr media
This graph shows a clear, logical timeline from point A to B, to C.
Tumblr media
Now, let me compare the Naegi from Unlimited Battle to the final, finished sprite.
Tumblr media
It's very different, but in ways that don't make sense. His hand is completely different from all versions of the Naegi sprite we've seen. As well, why does this sprite have lower hair, when none of the Naegi sprites in that timeline do? His hoodie zipper, also, is different from all 3 sprites. If this was a beta of the v.2.0 sprite, why is the nose in the correct position as the 3.0 sprite? Or why is the right eyebrow cutting through the hair shading, like the 3.0 sprite? If this were earlier, should it not look closer to the 2.0 sprite?
So...I don't think it makes sense to be a beta sprite, despite the outlining looking like an SDR2 beta. Then what is it?
That, I have no clue. But I have some ideas.
Firstly, this may be a sprite made only for this game. I have 0 clue why this would be, or where it would be used in-game, as the game is unplayable these days. Why this sprite only, though? The SDR2 cast was featured prominently in this game, too, and Hinata did not get any re-drawn sprites. Why did Kirigiri randomly also have a redrawn sprite?
But, stuff like this has happened before. the Danganronpa LINE stickers have many redrawn sprites. Not all of them are weirdly, but that only makes it share more in common with this game which also has non-redrawn sprites.
But if not redrawn for this specific game, what else could it be?
Well...I only have 1 other theory.
1・2 Reload (the Vita remaster of DR1&SDR2) was released late 2013, while Unlimited Battle was released early 2015. The Vita version of DR1 did something interesting that the Vita version of SDR2 did not do: go back and touch up sprites.
I'm still in the midst of finding all the characters who were edited, but the most noticeable and abundant is Kuwata's.
Tumblr media
I'll cover this more in-depth once I get to my "DR1 PSP -> PSVita Revisions" post, but the change is clear. They added much thicker outlines to Kuwata's sprites - almost all of them. This is clearly a purposeful change and not them reusing betas on accident, as Kuwata's actual beta sprites (observed in the DR1 Demo version) lack these bold outlines.
So...what if everyone was going to get this treatment? It may be a stretch, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me. Perhaps everyone's sprites were going to be heavily edited to look more like SDR2 sprites, and perhaps this process was even started before they gave up for one reason or another. So, we only have a few characters who ever got this treatment...and then some of those sprites were accidentally used in this iOS game.
Of course, that's only my theory. There could be a million other reasons for why this Naegi sprite exists - along with Kirigiri's and...Oogami.
Yes, in the files, I also found an odd Oogami sprite with the same quirks to it as Naegi's and Kirigiri's. I'll make gifs for them both now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All I can say is this is really strange. I wish I had a more definitive answer for what's going on here.

< ⑤ PIU-PIU Feature Update! >
Tumblr media
We've improved the "I Can See Your Voice" feature that records and delivers conversations that happen around your Ssumone in real-time.
Instead of simply displaying the name of the person doing the talking, we've added a profile picture for each person so you can understand the flow of the conversation more intuitively.
*Please take note: PIU-PIU will omit profile pictures of people it deems are not important!
This feature was added to June's chat as well as Teo and Harry's, so if you were matched with either of the latter, we encourage you to check out their previous chats to see some familiar(?) faces♡
We're also celebrating the Season 2 update with events you won't want to miss!

Tumblr media
I think I'm going to start posting about my upcoming game on here, currently in soft launch! It's version 1.3 of Ready Set Golf! A thread!
Tumblr media
Before we start - a little back story. Back in 2020 my small team at PikPok made Ready Set Golf for Snapchat. Made in PlayCanvas, it was our first true online multiplayer title, so there was a lot of learning to do!
Tumblr media
But it was pretty basic. It was "Golf Forever", no real meta-game to keep you playing, or things to earn. Still, very fun! The game is no longer available on that platform, so we've been porting it over to truly try our a real online multiplayer game!
Tumblr media
Over the last year we've ported it to a new codebase and redone the multiplayer. We changed the game's "unlimited" play to instead be best over 5 rounds, which has made the game way more engaging. We've also added a Level Up system.
Tumblr media
So what's in this 1.3 update? Customization! Finally! When we made the original version of this game for Snapchat, we weren't able to get this in. Now, we can!
Tumblr media
In the last update we added a simple level up system, which would give you power ups after playing through games. Now it'll also give you a full customizable item!
Tumblr media
Players can earn 4 kinds of customization - Balls, Trails, Flags and Hole Effects. Fun fact - the original game's balls, being a single color, didn't actually roll! So it was surprisingly complicated to get this working here.
Tumblr media
One of the neatest additions we've done compared to other games is the Flag. When you win a hole, the flag switches over to yours! A new way to show off to others.
Tumblr media
We've got a whole bunch of stuff in here for this update. The artists had a real fun time making awesome particles for the trails and effects, and the balls are so cool!
Tumblr media
The game is currently in soft launch in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and now Canada! If you're in those spots, check it out!
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/th/app/ready-set-golf/id1669577248?platform=iphone
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pikpok.golf.play&gl=TH
My brother and Dad are big fans of real golf, and I like olf games, so I'm happy we're able to bring this back and do some new, cool stuff with it.
Tumblr media
Now we're working hard on 1.4! Here's a sneak peek 👀

Note
I think there may be a bug with the save system. Every once in a while, when I go to save I find out that all my previous saves have been deleted.
Hi there!
If your saves have been deleted then it's your browser or browser extensions, not the game. If you periodically clear your browser history or cache, then any browser saves will be deleted along with it.
This can be an issue for iPhone users as iOS automatically clears the cache after a certain period of time.
The best way to ensure you don't accidentally lose save progress is to use Save to Disk and download backups to your device. You can load these saves into the game using Load from Disk.
Unlike browser saves, Save to Disk saves are unlimited and you can make as many of them as you want. You can also rename the file after you download them.
If you encounter any other issues with saves or game errors, please check out the Troubleshooting Game Launch & Save Errors page before sending in an ask.

Air Twister Review
Tumblr media
by Amr (@siegarettes)
Air Twister
Developers - YS Net
Publisher - ININ Games
PC, PS5, PS4, XBOX, Switch
The latest from legendary SEGA arcade creator Yu Suzuki, Air Twister has finally escaped its exclusivity period with Apple Arcade and arrived on other platforms. From a glance it's clear that Suzuki and his team were aiming to create a follow up to Space Harrier, with surreal visuals and saturated colors that'd feel right at home in SEGA's fantasy worlds. Scored by Dutch composer Valensia, doing his best Queen impression, Air Twister makes a splashy first impression despite the clearly limited budget. But as the game continues it's clear that Suzuki's vision lacks any real cohesion, rendered in hasty sketches rather than the efficient and masterful strokes of his work at SEGA.
Tumblr media
The longer the game goes the more assets repeat, without concrete themes to tie them together. The dynamic camera evokes the sweeping vistas of Panzer Dragoon and company, but environments come off as more as a set of prefabs that line a rollercoaster ride, without any idle animation, with even the water being static.
All of this was only obvious to me thanks to the languid pace of the game. Enemies sweep lethargically into the screen, and bullets are so slow enemies have often left before they can hit you.
The lock on system is translated directly from how it worked on iOS, lacking a targeting cursor, and requiring you to trace enemies with your character before hitting the fire button, which doubles as your rapid fire button. It works counter to genre conventions, removing the tension between rapidly pelting enemies with weaker fire or delaying your shots for a more powerful homing attack.
There's also no cool down between homing shots, so often the best way to deal damage is to slam the attack button, which will launch both rapid and homing shots at the same time. Curiously, you can aim your attacks at an angle with the right stick, but without a cursor it's highly inaccurate, and the tutorial doesn't even bother telling you about it.
It's all sloppy and ill considered, and the soundtrack follows suit . With a full album worth of new and existing tracks and a level progression completely on rails, Air Twister had everything lined up for a perfectly synced score. Instead it continually repeats songs, despite having enough songs to give each stage its own theme. Songs clash with the visuals instead of complementing them, adding to that sense of an incoherent whole.
Tumblr media
If there is a consistent theme to Air Twister, it's that repitition, which ultimately what drags it down. Every run is forced to start from the beginning, keeping the game stuck at that initial sleepy pace before it picks up at the halfway point.
Variety only comes through navigating the Adventure Map, a convoluted map structured like a skill tree, where each node requires a certain amount of points earned during runs. Most rewards are either a slight boost to your health or the number of enemies you can lock onto, both which start at a beyond generous amount, or slight variations on customization items like makeup or hair styles. It takes nearly an hour to earn meaningful rewards, which is maybe for the best, since the first weapon I unlocked basically gave me unlimited screen clearing bombs.
Tumblr media
The PC version has no meaningful interface changes, making basic navigation a pain. To take the aforementioned Adventure Map as an example, unlocking nodes requires you to either hold down a mouse button for an extended time, or tediously hover over and confirm each node with a controller, with no options to simply click a node further down the path and automatically unlock previous points. The navigation language isn't consistent either, with options like costume changes confirming if you simply hover over them. It's a shoddy and confusing mess, optimized for neither controller nor mouse.
Air Twister, simply put, is kind of a mess. It's not an unlikeable one, and at times it's even fun. But for the most of its runtime the experience is one of humming boredom, punctuated by confusion.

I just started playing some random hentai game because I was bored and the art looked nice. The art isn’t just nice- when playing it I noticed there were some characters who bore resemblance to some re-occuring characters from Valkyrie Crusade, like the alchemist.  And now I’m in gamer mourning mode. To those of you who don’t know, Valkyrie Crusade was a card battle JRPG for Android and IOS, but it was dying and got taken down for the lack of active players. So now I’m in nostalgic mode, and remembering where it all went wrong. I mean, for fuck’s sake I was playing Valkyrie Crusade before it got taken over by this other company.  To me, there are several reasons as to why Valkyrie Crusade got shut down. 1. The pay to win problem was getting out of hand, but considering it was most glaringly obvious with their updates to the game overall, I’ll talk more about that when talking about the terrible updates. 2. New rarities. I heard OG fans say that the game started out with the normal-rare-SR rates, and that they later added UR. I started playing during the UR-era.  The company that took over Valkyrie’s previous owners, were a little too liberal as they added not one, but two new rarities across the course of time, LR and VR with VR being released not even a year before the game got shut down.  Now, with each rarity, older rarities obviously become less important, unless they have some OP skill. An example of that would be my best team, which consisted out of 4 GLRs and 1 GUR- all of the passion element. In the final days of the UR-era, I was getting around to building a decently strong deck but nowhere near those of top players who paid for extras, so I saved up a bit to make sure I could get into the top 2000 when there would be some really good card in the game, and then the Halloween event came around.  During the Halloween event, there was this vampire card and if you got into the top 2000, you’d get her cape and by amalgamating it with the vampire card, her special skill would become unlimited- which was maximum damage to all enemies.  Considering I had her decently maxed out, she had a great number of soldiers too. If she immediately jumped into awaken burst at the start of the battle with the level 999 Archwitch, her henchmen would be immediately dead and you could get right into the battle with her. She was definitely one of the few GURs that still had some use in the game with the higher rarities coming out.  3. The events. For some reason I’ll never understand, they changed pretty much every event! The original Alliance event got changed into a bingo battle game, and whilst I never heard much hate towards the bingo update and neither did I personally hate this change, every other event change was a total NO; and pretty much every player I spoke with seemed to agree about it! Like the main game, got scrapped at all. Like, it was totally useless. Even what they did with the maps afterwards- changing them so you could obtain past archwitches, were totally not changed enough in terms of line-up so there was virtually no reason to keep hunting them. And nobody liked the Demon Realm or the Tower events. Especially the Demon Realm. Because the Towers event was first introduced, and was switched up with the old main events so there was enough variation that people weren’t actively hating it. Then the switch up with the old main events were replaced, and now it was a switch up between the Towers and the Demon Realm events.  And people HATED it. Because both events rely heavily on units from the same element, and to get into the top rankings you’d need 4 team units.  With the main events, you only need to win with 1 team with max 5 cards, and it can be comprised out of cards from varying elements- having a number or the entire team consist out of the same element merely gives it a bonus. With Towers & Demon Realms, you need 4 teams with max 20 cards and it all has to be the same element. There are 4 elements in the game so unless you’re sitting out all the other events you’d technically need that for every element. Try to gather 80 decent cards for battle and doing that whilst new rarities getting introduced around every 2-3 years all for free in a game with an over-reliance on RNG.  They tried to get free players to keep playing by giving out more extra free rewards, but usually they didn’t had great skills, or in the case of the VR awakening needed so many materials that even if you regularly hunted it was just discouraging to keep going.  Sometimes, especially during the Demon Realm as Towers was easier to begin with- I would just log in for the give aways, perhaps commence a hunting and then I would put the game down again. Hence why the game died. It was HELL, but at the same time, some of the cards were genuinely beautiful.  Like the Holy Night Calamity card that I’ll never own T-T

Hey, may I ask you what App you're using to get the endless gems? What are your experiences with it? Various ways to pimp the game have already been suggested to me. But everyone came with a warning that they could bring bugs or something like that. Don't want to sacrifice my tablet for a game. 😅
hi anon!
i just use the regular love island game on my phone, it just has modded gems!
unfortunately the way i did it no longer works as i did it pre s6. but @caitkaminski has a updated mod guide work around which you can find here
just be careful when modding your game, with modding there always is risks of things like viruses and such but if you use a mod from a trusted place like anywhere suggest in cait’s guide you should be safe.
when you mod your game you don’t get any bugs the only thing that happens (i guess) is that you don’t get the unlimited tickets as well in some cases if the mod gets transferred over to a iOS device.
just be careful & mod your game safely, my recommendation is install a verified and trusted anti-virus software onto your tablet prior to modding just in case so it can detect if there was any malware or virus install and install your mod from a trusted source used by many like what is recommended in cait’s tutorial!
happy modding!!

If you are looking for recommendations, my sudoku app is listed as “:) sudoku” in the iOS App Store. At has no adds and is free if you have an iPhone. I really like it but it does have a limited number of games per day. The unlimited version is a different app purchasable for $2.99.
i swear mobile games aren't even games anymore they're just vehicles for ads. i've gotten really into sudoku lately so i downloaded a sudoku app. multiple 40-second unskippable ads per game. solve a grid or a line of numbers and you get rewarded with an ad. need a hint? watch two ads. not to mention all the ads are for other mobile games, which are themselves vehicles for more ads for other mobile games and so on, like a set of matryoshka dolls that all want you to download their app and subscribe for £6.99 a month. remember snake? we used to love snake. it was a kinder world back then
