Useless objects that came in handy.

Earlier in our campaign, our party (Me, a barbarian, B, another barbarian, K, a rogue, and E, a broken bard) had ended up fighting some displacer beasts (2) and while we were, E had casted starry wisp in an attempt to reveal the invisibility. Twice they failed and hit other things (a now glowing frog and snail she owns we all fell in love with). After getting out of combat, we realized that there was a den, and there was in fact a pup displacer beast, but we needed our food to tame it. Our DM, hoping to make us sacrifice the frog, was unaware of the 10 goblin corpses that B was carrying. K stole a corpse from B and ended up taming the thing, which she now permanently owns.

Anon, you have the. Best. Timing. Ever. I literally just finished an Arcane artstyle study with Katara of the Undercity as a subject!

My favorite Arcane character is and forever shall be Ekko (best boy). Other faves are Viktor (chronic illness baby) and Jinx (trauma gremlin).

As for the S1 scene... Besides the finale and that breathtaking Guns for Hire sequence? The Ekko/Jinx fight from ep 7. It broke me. (And turned me into a Timebomb shipper. Which was arguably worse.)

Thinking about an obsessive, devoted Mind who’s trying his best to keep Whole alive and thriving. A robotic Mind who believes his only purpose in life is to keep his host living and therefore often goes to the extreme.

He doesn’t understand what his host is going through, not entirely at least, fighting an uphill battle and getting frustrated with himself and their vessel for not being fixable.

A Mind that refuses to give up, constantly pushing Whole to his limit in an attempt to save him. A Mind that beats himself up over this, instead of asking for help he just digs himself deeper in this ideology. If this isn’t helping them then maybe he just needs to up the anti, maybe he needs to sacrifice everything. He’s going farther than ever before, pushing the boundaries until they snap and is possibly going a bit mad in the process.

Eventually Mind breaks, either finally realizing Whole is unfixable this way and that he’s failed his only objective, or he’s forced to face Wholes mortality and that flicks a switch in his brain.

A Mind who completely breaks down, unable to process these emotions and becomes hyperaware of everything ‘bad’ he’s ever done. He realizes he’s the one killing them, all he can hear are the words failure over and over again.

I’d do anything for you, I did everything for you but I could never be enough. I’m the one hurting us. I failed you.

A devoted Mind who cradles his vessel with as much tenderness and care he can muster, holding him close and silently begging for forgiveness while also struggling to even understand what he’s feeling.

Maybe it’s too late, maybe it’s just in time. But he fucked up regardless, I don’t think he could never let that go.

you ever think about how mike, a teenager, a fourteen year old one to be exact, was able to keep his head during a shootout and even help their protector by updating him on his blindspots. and continued to give out orders even as their protector was bleeding out beneath them. god nerfed mike by giving him negative athletic skills because if he had any even 1% athleticism in his body he would simply be too powerful

And since I'm a huge sucker for angst, my brain immediately thought of developing that idea in order to hurt my beautiful baby boy some more. That and also the fact that my brain immediately looks for logic in the laws of cartoon physics (I really shouldn't do that...)

So I bring you the "Cole is a Ghost Kind-of-Saga". I still have a few more ideas to exploit, notably adressing the ways the other ninjas will help him cope with his new condition :3

first analysis post im gonna yap about sonic

amy saying "i'm not just a damsel in distress anymore" in frontiers absolutely sucks (very very late to say this but still)

she was NOT a damsel in distress for being kidnapped by metal sonic as a child, or for getting her own story alongside sonic and his superpowered friends just to save one bird, or for convincing gamma to help her and turn against eggman through her kindness, or for saving the entire world by inspiring shadow to fight for good with nothing but compassion and love for the world and everyone on it.

it's awesome to watch sonic and his friends use the chaos emeralds and be heroes, but we as an audience can't relate to that. we can't go super or run faster than light or save cities or defeat gods. but what we can do is help the people around us no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, and this is what amy represents. she has no superpowers, she doesn't fight aliens or gods or giant robots or evil geniuses. but she's given an entire story alongside everyone else in sonic adventure anyway, and in that story she shows she doesn't need to have these insane powers to be a hero, and the audience sees ourselves in her. we can't do that stuff either, and amy is there to show us that's okay and we can make a difference just by trying to help people in any way we can and having love for others around us.

so basically, amy is the sonic cast member that shows us we can be like sonic too, and we don't need to be physically strong to do it.

and then sega made her super strong with her crazy hammer, likely because they wanted the most prominent female character to be strong and independent and not a "damsel in distress" like her older characterization. she fights alongside sonic because she's physically strong enough to keep up and a useful asset. i dislike this aspect of her recent interpretations because it goes against the entire idea that her power is in her love and compassion rather than her skill or value to a team or any other quality that makes her just as good in a fight as anyone else. i don't necessarily dislike these interpretations of amy, but in being just another badass fighter she shows a far less valuable and relatable message, in my opinion.

it is honestly kinda wild seeing the reaction to two different cancelled and wildly popular authors (J.K Rowling & Neil Gaiman). I don't support either of them but it's a bit weird how people were so quick to discredit all of Rowling's work but still uphold Gaiman's genius.

Okay but can we talk about how g1 Megatron’s alt mode is just objectively kind of shit?

I mean yeah, turning into a gun is cool I guess, but logistically

It’s a relatively small gun (at least in Transformers proportions, it’s probably pretty big to a human) that needs someone else to fire

For starters, this alt mode is completely useless transport wise, because it cannot move on its own, he needs someone else to carry him (though it is small, so it wouldn’t be too difficult). So it doesn’t even serve a function of more efficient movement

Second, as previously mentioned, it requires someone else to use; as far as I’m aware, he can’t fire on his own. And considering these are the Decepticons, the range of people he can trust with it is probably limited (even if Starscream of all people is allowed to use it). But it also means that if he’s alone, his alt mode is entirely useless, if not a hindrance

And the cherry on top of all of this is that in his robot mode, he already has a cannon on his arm. One that’s bigger and honestly probably just as, if not more effective than his alt mode

Like at that point, if you can’t change your alt mode, you’re probably just better off staying robot mode permanently. Thankfully for Megatron, his robot mode is more than capable of packing a punch on its own. Maybe there’s instances where gun mode could be useful, but it’s really more trouble than it’s worth

And yeah you could say Soundwave falls into some of these issues being a cassette player, but for one thing, his alt mode has sound powers he can use as a weapon, and he’s also the communications and intelligence officer, so it’s not as necessary for his alt mode to be as combat effective as possible

Bumlets Post-Newsie Career Ideas

Assistant Superintendent at Duane Street (and eventually Superintendent)

This is kind of a pet thing of mine because I love all of Bumlets' interactions with the littles and he's just so big-brother-coded that it makes sense for him to become the Ultimate Big Brother™ by doing for younger boys what Kloppman did for him. I know a lot people like the idea of Dutchy taking over (and I do to!) but I kind of headcanon Dutchy as being smart and compassionate but easily overwhelmed by administrative and clerical work which was a big part of Kloppman's job historically and I think Bumlets would handle that side better (side note, this source here says that the lodging house had a live-in engineer and I think that would be a great job for Dutchy! He can stay and help out the boys when they need it without having to deal with paperwork!)

I, unfortunately, have been having a difficult time finding historical information on vaudeville at the very beginning of the 20th century (if anyone has any, please share them), but since Bumlets and dancing are very intertwined in the fandom, I think this would be a good place for him to end up. He could help Medda with choreography, and y'all know the female performers would be extremely safe from rowdy customers with him around (I headcanon him as having a lot of younger sisters, so he'd totally be protective of them.) I was thinking about this while watching this Paula Abdul performance with Dom as a background dancer, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. However, I'm still not sure if I like it more than the first one.

Bartending

A major bartender stereotype is that they are amazing listeners and a great person to spill all of your secrets to, and I personally think Bumlets is a fantastic listener, so I think he'd be good at providing that service. Obviously, there's the whole "making drinks" thing, but I think he'd catch on pretty fast and become one of the most popular bartenders pretty fast. He'd probably double his wages with tips because drunk people love a good listener with a pretty face (there have been a few interesting studies on it, mostly centered around women, but there have been some including men. This article here has a lot of good sources if this is something you're interested in.)

Look, I binged the Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended editions) the other day, so I've got medieval aus on the brain, and for the sake of fan service (ie. me service) I'm gonna say that in the few years between him leaving the lodging house and smithing becoming obsolete, Bumlets worked as one for a few years. Do I have any logical, character-building reasons for it? Not really (unless you count the fact that I gave Swifty a hot blacksmith brother that Bumlets has a crush on, but I honestly wasn't thinking of him when I started writing this post). This is just pure "I'm a big fan of the high fantasy genre and now I'm making it everyone else's problem" so enjoy!
