TBH it is so wild seeing so much international support for Palestine right now because I was first exposed to the Palestinian tragedies literally eleven years ago when I was a freshman in high school. News about the attacks by Israeli colonizers were and are literally yearly events during Ramadhan i.e. the holiest month in the Islamic world.
Palestine has always been in my heart and in my head ever since.

Do you not allow Catholics who support the Vatican to follow you or are you cool with Catholic Ethnostates?
This is so funny as an ex catholic. Yeah, I am against zionism and the Isreali state, CLEARLY I support the actions of the catholic church. Thank you.
Notice that the catholics right now arent gathering up every ethnic italian and meticulously starving and bombing them because they want all of Italy? Notice how the USA isn't funneling millions of dollars to give them weapons? Are you asking if i approve of the fucking Lateran Pacts? from fucking 1929?
I said dont argue with me because you aren't going to make me cave to israel somehow through a fucking tumblr anon attempting to point out hypocrisy. just block me, youre arguing with a random trans guys fetish blog.

The Best News of Last Week - November 28, 2023
🐑 - Why did Fiona the sheep become a mountaineer? She was tired of the "baa-d" jokes at sea level!
1. Pope Francis dines with transgender women for Vatican luncheon
Tumblr media
Pope Francis hosted a group of transgender women — many of whom are sex workers or migrants from Latin America — to a Vatican luncheon for the Catholic Church's "World Day of the Poor" last week.
The pontiff and the transgender women have formed a close relationship since the pope came to their aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they were unable to work. Now, they meet monthly for VIP visits with the pope and receive medicine, money and shampoo any day, according to The Associated Press.
2. New York just installed its first offshore wind turbine
Tumblr media
The first wind turbine installation at South Fork Wind, New York State’s first offshore wind farm, is complete.
The 130-megawatt (MW) South Fork Wind will be the US’s first completed utility-scale wind farm in federal waters.
3. Anonymous businessman donates $800k to struggling food bank
Tumblr media
But this Thanksgiving, a longtime prayer of food bank leaders was finally answered: an anonymous benefactor donated the full $800,000 they needed to move out of a facility they've long outgrown. That benefactor, however, preferred to stay anonymous.
"Very private company, really don't want attention," said Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank. "It's a goodhearted person that just wants to see the work here continue, wants to see it expand."
4. Empowering woman saving hopes and mental health of suffering Ukrainian kids
Tumblr media
Kenza Hadij-Brahim is at the forefront of promoting Circle of Toys
Hadj-Brahim is helping to launch the Circle of Toys initiative. A project that provides Ukrainian children in need of some normality with preloved toys. This new initiative connects people with old toys they might otherwise throw away, with Ukrainian families in need who want to provide some comfort to their children in this distressing time.
Find Refuge said : “The endeavour is driven by a sincere purpose: spark joy, foster play, and bring a hint of normalcy back to the young lives in Ukraine.”
5. TWO LOST CITIES HIDDEN FOR CENTURIES WERE JUST DISCOVERED IN BOLIVIA
Tumblr media
Researchers have found these areas not only housed structures and pyramids but it has been uncovered that there were advanced irrigation systems, earthworks, large towns, causeways, and canals that cover miles.
Dr. Heiko Prümers from the German Archaeological Institute, who was also involved in the study comments that “this indicated a relatively dense settlement in pre-Hispanic times. Our goal was to conduct basic research and trace the settlements and life there. The research sheds light on the sheer magnitude and magnificence of the civic-ceremonial centers found buried in the forest”.
6. Sheep dubbed Fiona rescued from cliff in Scotland where she was stuck for more than 2 years

And at last, some positive climate news:
7. Three positive climate developments
Tumblr media
Heating
When the Paris Agreement was adopted, the global reliance on fossil fuels placed the world on a path towards a 3.5C rise in temperature by 2100. Eight years on, country commitments to reduce their carbon footprints have pulled that down slightly, putting the world on a path for a 2.5C to 2.9C by the end of the century.
Peak emissions
Annual greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change have risen roughly nine percent since COP21, according to UN data. But the rate of the increase has slowed significantly. Recent estimates by the Climate Analytics institute find global emissions could peak by 2024
Rising renewables
Three technologies—solar, wind and electric vehicles—are largely behind the improved global warming estimates since 2015.

Oblomov’s Goncharov: The Novel That Started It All
To understand Martin Scorsese’s presentation of “Goncharov” (1973) it is first necessary to understand Oblomov’s original novel on which it is based, and indeed, the time in which it was written.
Tumblr media
The author, Ilya Ilyich Oblomov, was a young nobleman who lived in the late 19th century in Moscow. Popular with the royal family and rich beyond all measure, he was targeted along with the royals by Lenin and the Bolsheviks when they took over Russia after the first world war (known then as World War Part I of II). To escape the fate of the royals (he is believed to have escaped the Winter Palace by only hours) he fled to Italy.
Italy was, at the time, a newly unified country of former city-states including Rome, Florence, Milan, and for some reason, Chicago, IL, the people of which may have thought “IL” stood for Italy at the time. Oblomov himself found protection in Vatican City (which was not a city, but a separate country) owing to his significant contributions to the Popesidential campaign of Pius XII. Once the revolution had died down in his former country, now part of the USSR, which is English for CCCP, which is Cyrillic for SSSR, which stood for USSR, Oblomov moved out into the “Country” (which was not a country, but just an Italian city) and began writing of his experiences.
Oblomov began his novel, Goncharov, in 1921. Its narrative was to be an epic escape from Russia to match his own, but this was not to be, as the house he moved into belonged to the family of Francesco Cuccia, known now as “Don Ciccio the All-Around Unpleasant” or “Cuccia the Pretty Damn Bloodthirsty.” Oblomov, having been tricked by certain vindictive members of the Vatican House of Commons, did not in fact have permission to live there.
As Oblomov himself tried to evade not only Don Ciccio’s mafia but Lenin’s assassins, Vatican intrigue, Templar knights trying to kill the Assassins, and of course, the order of assassins themselves, known then as “hidden ones” or simply, The Brotherhood; his novel Goncharov became a venting point for the tribulations to which he was subjected. Thus, Goncharov became the story of an epic battle between the Italian Mafia and Russians that we know today.
The novel Goncharov, published illegally in Soviet Russia as “Ivan Goncharov” or “The Many Sufferings Of Ivan Goncharov: Hope For The Best, Expect The Worst” was an underground hit. Stalin himself is said to have greatly enjoyed the novel before banning it, burning most copies of it, kidnapping its author and sending him to die in a gulag in Siberia. Though no record exists of Oblomov’s death, it does seem he was captured by Soviet secret police while visiting his parakeet in Yekaterinburg, and all record of him is lost upon his arrival in northern Siberia.
But a few copies made it out, and thanks to an English translation by Penguin Classics, the book fell into the hands of Martin Scorsese, who read the novel while in prep for his film Mean Streets, where he would go on to meet producer Domenico Procacci. Scorsese was of course too busy with his first New York epic to direct, but he agreed to co-produce the film. All that was missing was a director.
While filming the riot scene for Mean Streets though, Scorsese and his casting director happened to meet a certain extra with a peculiar name. Matteo JWHJ0715 (whose family name was changed at Ellis Island from “Jones”) had just moved to New York to achieve his dreams of Hollywood stardom, having thought Hollywood was one of New York’s suburbs. Scorsese corrected him and allayed his disappointment by inviting him to join him and Procacci for dinner.
The rest, as they say, is history.

There are three types of Ukrainian artists. Those who were killed by russia, those who were repressed by russia and those whose legacy was stolen by russia. Armenian-Ukrainian artist Ivan Aivazovsky belongs to the third category. So here I present 6 fun  facts about his life.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
1. For almost an entire life he lived in the city of Feodosia in Crimea. He loved the city and was its patron, he financed museums, galleries and the development of the city.
For example, when the ancient Armenian church of Surb-Sarkis burned down, the restoration was carried out at the personal expense of Ivan Aivazovsky. From year to year, the painter donated the author's icons to the Church of St. Sergius - "Walking on Water" (1888; oil on canvas, 70 x 50), "The Last Supper" (1890; oil on canvas, 44 x 60), "The Virgin and Child ” (1891; oil on canvas; 125 x 103 cm), “Prayer for the Chalice” (1897; oil on canvas; 94 x 72).

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
2. History and archeology were his huge hobbies. He even participated in archeological digs. Though he hated reading.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
3. He created his marine landscapes not on the coast but in his workshop from memory.
Tumblr media
The Ninth Wave, Ivan Aivazovsky, 1850, 221x322cm, oil on canvas, State russian museum
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
4. He was the first Ukrainian artist to be exhibited in the Louvre.
Tumblr media
View of the island of Capri, Ivan Aivazovsky, 1845, 40x57cm, oil on canvas, Kyiv National Art Gallery
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
5. Pope Gregory XVI (Gregorius PP. XVI; 1765-1846) unexpectedly wished to purchase a painting by an artist from Feodosia for the Vatican. So, at the beginning of 1841, the marinist repeated the seascape in his own way and, kneeling down, personally presented it to the Pontiff. Touched by the artist's noble gesture, in the late autumn of 1841, the governor of St. Peter personally awarded the Ukrainian Armenian with the Order of St. Sylvester and the Golden Militia.
Tumblr media
Chaos. Creation of the world, Ivan Aivazovsky, 1841
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
In 2023, during the bloody occupation of the Ukrainian city of Kherson by russians, not only were thousands of civilians tortured and killed, but numerous museums were also robbed. Three paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky were stolen from the Kherson National Museum of Art, along with thousands of artefacts from all over the country. The stolen paintings are: "The Storm Subsides," "The Sea," and "View of the City of Odesa." Reminder: Such actions are a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions.

ok I have to- I've been sort of loosely paying attention to arknights, mostly in that "some of these people have cool outfits and swords that are on fire, hell yeah" sort of way, but the brand demands I ask: why do some of them have halos? are we just supposed to sort of go with it or is it like a Thing?
Oh you especially might go nuts about it but those characters are called Sankta, and they are literally angels chosen by (their) god, called Law.
When a sankta child says their first word, i believe, their halo and wings appear. Every one has a slightly distinct pattern for them but they are real physical items that literally glow
Tumblr media
and impede wearing hats (not that that stops Outcast from wearing a cowboy hat)
Tumblr media
And most if not all of them have guns because guns are sacred and angels/Law invented them, as far as I know
Tumblr media
And they have a patron firearm that they carry around with them, a special gun that is like both an extension of and proof of their status as a person chosen by god.
Sankta are all connected to each other by a force called Empathy— they can read each others emotions and sometimes their thoughts. For whatever reason this makes most sankta COMPLETELY unhinged, as explosions are a common occurrence and everybody is shooting their guns constantly. I can only assume this is because they understand each other near-perfectly, so someone’s justification for setting off an explosion makes total sense. But they sometimes come across as sociopathic to outsiders because a lot of them don’t give a shit about / can’t connect to anyone outside their empathy.
It’s also why Mostima (who lost her halo’s glow and started growing black horns and lost her connection to Empathy) is treated so poorly for being a fallen sankta, and why Lemuen forgives the other sankta who shot her even though it left her wheelchair bound.
Fiametta here (in red hair) is justifiably angry and confused by this instant forgiveness— they understand why the other angel did it, but she doesn’t and she never will
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s also so that when a funeral is being held, sometimes every sankta in the world is paralyzed by the grief of it
Tumblr media
I probably missed something but that’s the gist of it
Oh and spoilers, but Law is a supercomputer hidden in the basement of the Pope’s quarters in the Vatican City.
So while it isn’t explicitly stated as far as i know, this to me says that “empathy” is actually a kind of linked network that connects sankta via the “halos” which are really more like wifi routers or satellites.
The pope has a gun too (seen on the bottom left)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he loves sugar and sweets like all sankta too

this seems like a good occassion to remind everybody to donate to the abortion dream team in poland. they’re an activist group that helps conduct about 4 safe abortions an hour for polish residents (which currently also includes 4.2 millions of ukrainian reffugees). poland currently utilizes one the strictest abortion laws in all of europe (with the only stricter laws being those of the vatican city and malta): abortion is prohibited even in cases of severe medical complications and can only be performed if there is an absolute certainty of death of the pregnant person during childbirth or when there is a documented rape ruling (which is effectively impossible to prove in court within a couple of months, as evidenced by the fact that there usually are only 1-3 such cases every year). even though the majority of poland doesn’t agree with the law (some estimates state that among people aged 18-35 about 85% support free will abortion choice), it doesn’t seem like the there will be any lighter law introduced anytime soon (with the leftist party being the only one with a hard pro-choice stance). meanwhile many people are suffering the consequences of the law which causes medical professionals to deny abortion even in cases like that of Izabela from Pszczyn who died in September of 2021 after the doctors made her wait for an abortion until the heart of the dying fetus inside would completely stop beating. she died of sepsis in the hospital, leaving her family and her 9 year old daughter. many more cases like this are happening in poland and any donation can help prevent it by funding access to safe abortions abroad for those who need it.
