Listen close, for tonight I tell a tale of the sea. You may think this is a story you know, but there is one key difference. A mermaid who loved a sailor, and a sailor who loved the sea.

Long ago, in a sea side kingdom, there was a sailor. He held no titles, and had no land. He worked in the day and into the night in order to afford his food. But his heart wept for nothing, as he had his love. The sea. Since he was a boy he held love for nothing but the sea and everything in it. He sails its waters every day without failing, always returning to his one true love.

And unbeknownst to the sailor, the sea felt the same. Under its water was a mermaid, a woman who’s beauty can only be described as ethereal. The ocean ran through her veins, and water filled her lungs. And each day, as the sailor came to the sea, and each day, as he confessed his love, and each day, as he sailed away knowing he’d return, the mermaid felt the same. Her heart belonged to him and nothing more.

So one day, when the sailor arrived to his special spot, the mermaid came from the water, calling to him. She offered him a gift, so that he may swim amongst the waves alongside her. The sailor, his heart filling to the brim, agreed immediately, diving in beside her. The pair swam through the ocean, each of them finally being with their love.

Valentino: (burst into the room furious) CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS BITCH?!

Vox: What did Angel Dust do now?

Valentino: Angel? Wha...? No! I am talking about Velvette! I offered to go to a spa session today and she said that she couldn't because she already has plans with Emily!

Vox: Didn't you go to the spa with her a week ago?

Valentino: YES!

Vox: Then why the fuck are you so mad?

Valentino: Because since she met that fucking whore it's as if Velvette only has eyes for her! She wakes up early every day to have breakfast with her even thou she hates waking up before 10 AM. She doesn't let anyone be aggressive with her. She stops whatever she is doing when Emily asks her for something. She-

Vox: Why. The. Fuck. Are. You. So. Mad?

Valentino: Velvette is part of our group! She is a Vee! But since Emily came, she has left us aside like we are nothing.

Vox: That is not what is happening.

Valentino: Yes, it is! She doesn't answer our calls unless it's an emergency! She has set up a straight schedule so she can have nights free! She doesn't hang out with us as much as she did! And for what? Because she wants to be with some has-been? She is a fallen angel! She is part of the group of the brat princess of Lucifer! Why does she prefer her over us?!

Vox: Valentino, shut up. Stop. Let Velvette have this.

Valentino: Excuse me?

Vox: Look, you and I have our deals. You have your parties, your drugs, and your whores. I have (shows his phone) this. We have things that are only for us. But Velvette? It's the first time she has something that's just for her.

Valentino: That's not-

Vox: It is. Whenever we have a problem, she solves it. If we need something, she is there in an instant. Of the three of us, she is the one who works the most. She goes to meetings and checks our stats. Manages our account and our marketing. When we want to go out, she always comes, and always to where we want. And maybe, we have got used to her being there whenever we need her. Be it because of work or because we want to do something.

Valentino: You are making it sound like she is our slave. But she has never complained about our outings. And she enjoys the power she has with the company, with us.

Vox: I am not saying she doesn't, but you said it yourself, it's always us, never just her. Even the clothes she loves to design so much are used for the company's benefit. Leaving Emily aside, when have you seen her do something that has nothing to do with us or the company?

Valentino: I-

Vox: Emily is that for her. She is something that has nothing to do with the Vees, with the marketing, she is just a friend she can be with without responsibilities. And I bet my life she craved that freedom for a long time.

Valentino: But what the fuck we will do if she leaves?

Vox: She won't. She is still a Vee, and she won't quit all of that just for a passing feeling. But if we don't let her have this, that could indeed be a reason for her to leave.

Valentino: ...fine.

Vox: Good.

Valentino: But I still want to go to the fucking spa and since Velvette is not here you are coming with me.

Vox: Shit. This drama was all because you didn't want to go to the spa on your own, was it not?

Valentino: Yes.

Vox: Fuck you. Lets go.

one thing that’s come up in my fic writing that i’m haunted by is the (fairly canon) idea that set up the aldhani heist with the express notion that it would fail. by hand he slated every member for death. he chose people he knew would not be up to snuff, whom he thought would have unreconcilable conflicts- cinta and taramyn, the woman who had her entire family killed by stormtroopers, the former stormtrooper. the leader without enough experience who was afraid of the heights she’d have to rappel down. did he know skeen would crack and take the money and run? i think there’s a chance he did. did he put too few people on the docket on purpose? oh yeah. it’s a fascinating inversion of the expected Plucky Band of Rebels take On Imperials David And Goliath Heist story that is star wars’ very bread and butter. AMCA age talks about luthen as author of the rebellion. he wants to write the story of the tragic failed martyrs for the empire to break itself in cracking down on. that plucky band of rebels really is above all a badly cast theatre troop. luthen writes himself into the prototypical epic speech-giving Mentor Figure when he recruits Cassian from Ferrix, and then he almost immediately tells vel that andor is expendable. he writes cassian into the role of the in-it-for-himself mercenary because it’s what will cause tension within the group as surely as writing vel into the role of the unsure overstressed leader who has to incorporate a new guy on her word alone will also cause fissures. it’s not just cassian who was expendable- they all were. it makes the most sense for luthen’s scheming that he wanted them all to die without revealing the knowledge of who he was, really, without leaving any wild card surviving members. the biggest surprise of the heist, i feel, is not that anyone died, but that anyone survived

I was thinking about how much I loved the idea of Vel and Cinta living in ALdhani? you can see that Cinta loved those sheep, so Imagine when Cassian and Jyn have their first baby, Cinta shows off her skills (plenty, bc she can stab you, can shoot you, but also can give you the kindest smile, can heal you, and I know she can do whatever craft you can ask) and gives them the most awesome blanket, or baby clothing.  Vel, knows the Rebellion its quite shitty with their retribution, so she gives them enough credits, they can buy a ship, and also a small house.

I saw in one of your tags a mention of a novel? As someone who is enjoying your Chaggie fics (they're really good!) I'm curious as to what you write when fandom isn't on the brain :D

First of all thank you for enjoying my fics! I love engaging with fandom and the fact I can contribute creatively to the things I love brings me a lot of joy <3

Fair warning there is so much under the cut here oops, you gave me an opening to talk about my original shit and now I'm running with it lol

I have several projects at the moment, but the one with the most traction and an actual finished first draft is an urban romantasy following a chronically ill werewolf and the suffocated coven heir vampire with PTSD (and a service Hellhound) who she falls in love after an abandoned new vampire stumbles into her job, confused and bloodthirsty. The major throughline is a combination of found family, romance and going against what's expected/socially acceptable to find happiness and self-worth.

The one also has the most art!

The MCs from that one are Marie and Alex <3

I have a few other stories set in the same universe as this one ^ Including a hunter/vampire story (Daisy and Vel, feat. Eidolon, Vel's mount, who is my interpretation of a kelpie)

This one was originally inspired by Reinary's song May I Have This Dance and then I just ran with it lol

And a witch/werewolf story (Amaris, werewolf and Raelyn, witch); follows a werewolf collar tech (Raelyn) and the werewolf she met as a child, before she realized what was really happening (her family trains werewolves as guards -- I'm still working the plot of this one because I've had a hard time balancing it in a way that isn't harmful to actual people, and it might end up scrapped or reworked into something else, but I love the characters so they get a mention lol)

I also have a multitude of others, including (another) exes-to-lovers between a muralist and tattoo artist who dated in high school; the muralist bailed after high school in an effort to run away from home/family troubles and left a lot of hurt feelings behind.

Then I have a siren/selkie story where the siren's voice has been stolen by a now-popular singer, and the (chaotic) selkie finds out and wreaks havoc trying to free her.

And most recently, a platonic succubus and the grumpy/intimidating witch she falls in love with while trying to figure out how to navigate and hold onto meaningful friendships.

The first one is obviously my most fleshed out, but basically I write a lot of sapphic romance/romance-adjacent and primarily fantasy.

There's a few other ideas I've shelved temporarily while I figure out what I want to do with them too. One is a full rework of the novel I wrote when I was eleven, which was very much Mary-Sue princess goes on quest to save the kingdom lol. There were dragons and unicorns in that one xD

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to ramble about my original works! I love talking about them but obviously my fandom content is more popular lol

l'll finally say it after I have had time to sit and digest The Flash: OMW Special.

I was a little disappointed! But only a little. I did expect this special to be sort of a "kitchen junk drawer" of stories and we got that. I am glad that what we saw deviated from the "ground zero flash team" and gave us some insight to them and how things played out in the first breath of the invasion. Avery's story was my absolute favorite and I am curious how much more of a role they are going to play moving forward. Godspeed terrified me in a good way and I got jitters just seeing him.

What made me profoundly disappointed was the backstory for The Fraction being told through the lens of a character I have seen a thousand times before already, leaning on overused tropes I really thought we were done with. I understand it is hard to be totally original now when it comes to building a megalomaniacal interstellar conquering species, but there was nothing particularly interesting in them and their motivations other than their methods.

Admiral Vel Anthro requesting marriage from their Empress in exchange for his leadership irks me as a bland decision but I can understand the direction to show readers that this dude feels entitled and possesses an ego you just want to deck. I can sense that later he will likely get screwed over, probably by The Empress herself, who is probably already a well known character considering she is clothed from head to foot.

An awesome theory from @givemewallywestorgivemedeath being the Empress is Iris might not be so... improbable... as Iris dying and having her soul slingshot through time and space has happened before, and since her own future timeline now is (I believe) gone her soul could have gone into this Empress.

Overall I enjoyed this special, but the one story with Vel Anthro disappointed me and I felt like this whole story could have been reduced and slipped into the main plot rather than take up pages that could have been utilized to show something else.

We’ve known each other since I was 10 year old horse girlie and he was a scrawny rescue. When I met him at my riding lessons I thought he was ugly but the instructor kept pairing me with him for every lesson - turns out I was the only kid he listened to and he hated everyone else. We pack bonded over both being ugly weirdos and less than a year later my family bought him, because otherwise the lesson barn would’ve had to sell him, since I was the only person he wasn’t an asshole to. We both had huge glow-ups and now he is a senior citizen who is beautiful and roughly the size of a moose and we’ve known each other other for the majority of both of our lives.

Cursed Lore of The Boy:

when he arrived at the barn where he’s boarded now he was cranky from being in the horse trailer, and the owner of the place took one look at him and said “you didn’t tell me he was a maneater” in the same tone of voice people talk about lions or crocodiles in

when the whole barn got a respiratory disease he was the only one who didn’t get it

he unties knots for fun

our birthdays are two days apart (not the same year, just the same month)

he kicks with his front legs not his back legs

nobody at the barn knows who the hell I am but when I say which horse is mine they go “oh. HIM.”

he’s terrified a farrier into refusing to work with him unless I hold him, and he’s destroyed the egos of at least three horse trainers in single combat

he looks exactly like one of his ancestors who was a racehorse with a reputation for needing jockeys with “ice water in their veins” and boy howdy did he get THOSE genetics

I earned the nickname "Velcro" from my riding instructor after I managed to stay on him while he bucked like mad then reared vertically and bucked some more because something scared him

one of the other interesting fic things to tease out and play with a bit is the way that leida mothma is the Big Bad of the series, in that she’s kind of the biologically ticking time bomb of what luthen and saw are desperate to prevent: the rise of a generation, and then more after, for whom life under the empire is the only thing they know. luthen wants war and he wants it now, but the window on a new generation is narrowing quickly...
