If I was Firestar and knew that my deputy even considered for a MOMENT about killing me he is immediately not going to be deputy anymore. It's not a "aw shucks give him a chance" like some kind of little league match, you're talking about decision-making abilities in a battle culture, where going to war is literally a matter of life and death.

Commanding a small group of cats on a quest is NOT the same as the skills needed to run the day-by-day functions of an entire Clan of 20+ people, and let's just IGNORE the whole 'actually considered murdering his leader' thing-- the mere fact that he had such a severe lapse of judgement to train in cat hell with his aggressive, border-mongering half-brother (connected ONLY by their blood with Tigerstar, btw, so much for 'dont associate me with my dad' lol) should have disqualified him on the spot.

Even if it DIDN'T end in Brambleclaw hesitating in that moment, watching Firestar slowly die a horrible death.
