someone hit my reset button please
so me and my mother (who has trouble seeing so i drive her places) went to go eat dinner with my aunt and uncle.
HE FUCKING CLEARED A G_N AT ME!!
and for those who don’t know what clearing is, it’s basically when the g_n is empty and you make sure it isn’t jammed and will supposedly sh00t fine.
This is not a safe act and the first few things anyone should know about that kind of safety is you don’t point that weapon at anyone. Under any circumstances. It doesn’t matter if the safety is on or if the magazine is out or if it’s chamber is empty.
It. Is. Not. Safe.
I am fairly young, I have a life ahead of me, and I’ll be honest my uncle is not the most morally correct person (especially with a few beers in him) and when i tell you...
that my mother
is the DEFINITION of Mama Bear
Ohohohohoho...i mean it.
I jumped a little from the couch when the it went off bc it still makes quite a frightening noise when you don’t expect it and oh. my. god. I had never heard my Mother yell so violently.
No not yell
Growl. Snarl. Absolutely get ready to tear my uncle’s head off and my aunt (who is my Mom’s sister) looked fully ready to let her do it.
I am the youngest of my Mother’s children and the only one of my specific assigned gender (which I identify as but use They/Them pronouns to remain anonymous)
I love my Mom. So so much and I kind of wanted to fall down laughing when I got over the fact that I could’ve just died had the weapon been loaded.
Moral of The Story: Don’t operate or even touch a violent weapon if you are not trained in the common safety so far as to you will acknowledge it even under the influence of the slightest bit of alcohol.

Beware Bad Advice: Carry a defensive weapon if you want to. But make sure you know how to use it. And learn weapon retention, too.

I don't remember if this was an actual argument at one point (I genuinely could have just imagined it), but I think it's worth addressing anyway because there are probably people out there who do believe similar ideas.
And that is: a viewpoint where the gods striking down Aeor for building the Factorum Malleus was akin to killing someone for having a gun in their house.
Because, like, no.
Aeor wasn't a protective parent keeping a gun (capable of killing anyone when fired) safely locked up in the home office in the event that someone breaks in. Aeor was a rogue city run by a militaristic, totalitarian government that had spent time, money, and resources to develop a nuclear-level weapon; one that's designed to exclusively target a group of people they want eradicated.
That weapon was never going to remain a precaution. That weapon was going to be put into use immediately.
The Downfall gods weren't criminals breaking into a house because they were paranoid their neighbours were going to kill them. They were a covert ops team sent to destroy something that was being built specifically to harm them and their family.
It just so happened that events unfolded the way they did in the tragic way that prequel stories do, where no matter what the characters try to do, fate decided that Aeor would fall.

if you've ever been to someone's home and they have a gun openly displayed where children or literally anyone else can reach it, do not underestimate the power of the phrase "I've seen better". try your best to act like it doesnt reasonably scare you when they have a deadly weapon just chilling out in the open. you arent visibly impressed, you aren't visibly afraid, you're not increasing their ego in any way. then steer the conversation away from the topic of guns. make their gun the least interesting thing about them, whether that's true or not, and they're more likely to realize that they can use better things to impress their guests than deadly weapons.
never, ever, ever ask if they know how to shoot. best case scenario you get invited to a controlled shooting range and you might have a fun day out. worst case they take then gun down and without checking if its loaded they point it straight at you as a "joke". neutral scenario they're just kind of a pompous ass. assume that unless you have actively seen them shoot said gun multiple times that they dont know how to use it because they clearly can't store it.
