The Best News of Last Week - March 18
1. FDA to Finally Outlaw Soda Ingredient Prohibited Around The World
An ingredient once commonly used in citrus-flavored sodas to keep the tangy taste mixed thoroughly through the beverage could finally be banned for good across the US. BVO, or brominated vegetable oil, is already banned in many countries, including India, Japan, and nations of the European Union, and was outlawed in the state of California in October 2022.
2. AI makes breakthrough discovery in battle to cure prostate cancer
Scientists have used AI to reveal a new form of aggressive prostate cancer which could revolutionise how the disease is diagnosed and treated.
A Cancer Research UK-funded study found prostate cancer, which affects one in eight men in their lifetime, includes two subtypes. It is hoped the findings could save thousands of lives in future and revolutionise how the cancer is diagnosed and treated.
3. “Inverse vaccine” shows potential to treat multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases
A new type of vaccine developed by researchers at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) has shown in the lab setting that it can completely reverse autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes — all without shutting down the rest of the immune system.
4. Paris 2024 Olympics makes history with unprecedented full gender parity
In a historic move, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has distributed equal quotas for female and male athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024. 5. Restored coral reefs can grow as fast as healthy reefs in just 4 years, new research shows
Planting new coral in degraded reefs can lead to rapid recovery – with restored reefs growing as fast as healthy reefs after just four years. Researchers studied these reefs to assess whether coral restoration can bring back the important ecosystem functions of a healthy reef.
“The speed of recovery we saw is incredible,” said lead author Dr Ines Lange, from the University of Exeter.
6. EU regulators pass the planet's first sweeping AI regulations
The EU is banning practices that it believes will threaten citizens' rights. "Biometric categorization systems based on sensitive characteristics" will be outlawed, as will the "untargeted scraping" of images of faces from CCTV footage and the web to create facial recognition databases.
Other applications that will be banned include social scoring; emotion recognition in schools and workplaces; and "AI that manipulates human behavior or exploits people’s vulnerabilities."
7. Global child deaths reach historic low in 2022 – UN report
The number of children who died before their fifth birthday has reached a historic low, dropping to 4.9 million in 2022.

so about the header that proceeded today's statement:
Viability as agent: Low
Viability as subject: None
Viability as catalyst: Medium
i didn't know what to think of this part of the entry at first, but the longer the statement went on... was the institute in this universe trying to manufacture avatars?
the dice can't do anything without someone to use them, they can't be an "agent" by themselves, but might be capable of manipulation, so in that aspect their viability is "low."
the dice could be a "subject" in the sense that they could use further studying, but the statement itself was a very thorough investigation of their workings, so in that aspect their viability is "none."
the dice seem to influence their holder to roll them, or at least find more victims to roll them, and could therefore be described as a "catalyst" for someone's becoming. but, as seen in the statement, their owner can give the dice to someone else (albeit not without consequences), so in that aspect their viability is only "medium."
so what about the line following all this, what does "Recommend referral to Catalytics for Enrichment applicability assessment" mean? if we go by this interpretation, i'd say it could mean the institute wanted to find a way to make the dice even more potent as an artifact, maybe even remove that pesky ability for their owner to reject them.
imho all of this this brings a whole new level of context to the events of episode seven, of unknown violent agents going after an influx of objects that seemed straight out of artifact storage. was that the nature of the titular "magnus protocol" first mentioned in episode four, the one that involved the starkwall group? containing or destroying potential artifacts before the institute could get their hands on them?
it also makes their "gifted kids program," and sam's link to it as one of the kids being studied, all the more horrifying to think about. was it not just avatars in general they were after, but child avatars specifically? no wonder gertrude got so defensive over the possibility of sam and celia dragging gerry back into the institute's business last episode, we all picked up on her clearly knowing more than she's letting on but now we might know the shape of that information a bit better.
and one final bit of food for thought... this statement had a lot of familiar themes, didn't it? free will or the illusion of it, gambling and not-so-random chance, the statement giver being done in by one final hit from what feels like a bit of an addition... all hallmarks of a certain mother of puppets. doesn't it seem fitting that "chester" would use this kind of statement to warn sam about what harm pursuing the magnus institute could bring to him, considering the one his voice might draw from? and doesn't it seem so painfully ironic that his warning seems to have only driven sam further into that web?
#tmagp#the magnus protocol#tmagp spoilers#tmagp 9 spoilers#MANY THOUGHTS HEAD FULL AAAAAAAAAA#there are so many other things i want to link to this but i also just want to post it asap to get other people's thoughts#honestly at the word 'catalyst' my mind went straight to mike crew using ex altiora to become an avatar of the vast#combing through lietners until he found one that fit#and the statement giver from mag 4 feeling like he had to specifically sell ex altiora to gerry or it wouldn't 'count'#i can't pull out the episode quotes every time i have a theory or it becomes a bit passé but know they are always on my mind#also that last paragraph just came to me in a vision while i was typing up the rest of this i hope it's not too far of a reach#i tried to keep it vague but i'm also imagining jon banging his head against the inside of a crt monitor in frustration r/n#i still need to read the breakdown of the arg so if any info in that bolsters or discredits this please let me know!!!

Thoughts on the Enrichment Applicability Assessment
TMAGP EP 9 SPOILERS AHEAD
UPDATE: The TMAGP notion board on my pinned post has now been updated for ep. 9! Go check it out :) OOOOH BOY now this is exciting stuff. So the Magnus Institue, or whoever was routing through their files (this could be a whole other tangent...starkwall anyone?) was running artifact studies... and we have very little information about it. As of yet, this is what we know about the classifications of the cursed dice from this episode:
"Viability as subject – none Viability as agent – low Viability as catalyst – medium."
Recommend referral to Catalytics for Enrichment Applicability Assessment.
Here is my running theory...
Alchemical theory of artifact classification A subject is pretty straight forward, it is the base material on which alchemical operations are performed. Agent and catalyst, however, stood out to me specifically for being similar chemical terms, with one key difference. A catalyst is always an agent but not all agents are catalysts. An agent is a substance/compound that facilitates a chemical reaction. A catalyst is a substance/compound that increases the rate of a reaction, and is not typically consumed in said reaction. This leads me to believe these artifacts were being studied for the purpose of being used as ritualistic vessels or weapons. An agent could aid in a ritual, but does not have the power to efficiently carry one out. A catalyst on the other hand could very well be the key player in a ritual.
In the context of the dice, it would make sense for them not to be a subject. They seem to be conducting and changing the world around them, not so much acting as a vessel (for example, I believe the web table in TMA used to bind the NotThem would be a pretty good subject, as it actively had actions performed unto it rather than it interacting with the world). Furthermore, the dice would work as an agent, as they can take a supportive role. But due to them being, you know... unpredictable, it would be difficult for them to take a facilitation role. A catalyst however, is much more likely since the dice are event initiators.
Now onto the catalytic enrichment applicability assessment Enrichment studies are done on living beings, in which the researchers hypothesize adding something will change the subjects behavior. What could they possibly add to change the behavior of the dice? I believe they are (were, when they had them) actively feeding the dice. ANYWAYS; currently wondering where the dice are. Now that we know these studies were happening, where did the artifacts go when the place burnt down? They must have been taken and relocated or scattered. Maybe the OIAR has them...

Job searching is a unique kind of hell
03/03/2025
but you probably already knew this. I know countless mouths of my generation have already had this exact same tantrum: "Oh woe is me, I cannot attain economic independence, and now without a stable income I am forced to move back in with my parents who believe me to be a failure of a human being and shall never accept neither my plight nor identity!", this is, all things considered, probably one of the better ways such a scenario could go, and judging by the amount of fundraisers going around tumblr.com for *reads notes* 'Help me afford rent this month' and 'I am starving and have no money' one can safely assume that far worse scenarios abound.
But this post isn't about how royally fucked our generation is economically, about how we will be stuck in rent traps/debt traps for the duration of our lifetimes. No this post is about how it FEELS to be stuck on the hunt for employment. Specifically how I FEELS to be stuck on the hunt for employment. You may have noticed from my overly wordy prose that I myself am of the unemployed class, and from a privileged echelon at that. Indeed my beloved wife has a job, but she labors so hard for us, and for a pittance at that, enough to carry us through the month, but not enough to afford us any stability, luxury, nor even a means to pay off our respective debts. So I resign myself to trying my best to find some paying work.
So without further ado lets dive into it!
Boiling oil trickles down across the delicate folds of the brain, searing and destroying decades of developed neurons, spasms wrack the body, and all internal organs cry out from dehydration and malnourishment, this all occurs somewhere between 6am and 3pm. At which point my languid self may or may not seek the motivation to roll out of bed, and try my luck at the unforgiving job market in my locale. The jobseeker may immediately face two dilemmas depending on their geographical location and time spent job searching respectively and in turn:
If the jobseeker does not reside in a place with many accessible jobs, this presents a problem, as they may have already exhausted all potential for local employment and their only recourse is to either harass the local employers until they cave and give them a job. Or take public transport out further to places beyond the locally accessible, burning vital funds which they may not be able to replenish, or even have in the first place;
If the jobseeker has been searching for jobs for an extended period of time, they may be subject to acute depression. The repeated act of confronting strangers, offering their skilled labor, and being repeatedly turned down, has a certain effect on ones morale. A certain repeated and reinforced idea that you are worthless, you have nothing to offer, that appearing in this place of business as neither a customer nor an acceptable job candidate is tantamount to loitering. No actually, loiterers have the opportunity to become customers via wave function collapse, YOU are demonstrably PENNILESS. YOU, are a BEGGAR, BEGGING in this PLACE OF BUSINESS, BEGONE FROM MY SHOP AND DO NOT DARE CAST A SHADOW ON MY THRESHOLD FORTHWITH! This repeated idea inflicted on ones self is, if I may be earnest a moment, a little bit traumatising.
Fortunately this was not the case for myself on this fine day, I had been neither on the job hunt long enough, nor residing in too rural a populace for either of these dilemmas to trouble me. Gathering my strength I made myself presentable, and assessed my plan of action. Was I to weather this ordeal en persona in the nipping cold of an early spring day, or via the web from the comfort of my study. As the time I had spent outside in the past few days could be counted in minutes, rather than hours, I decided some fresh air would be beneficial (but don't you worry, I will pen another article about the experience of the armchair job-applicant soon enough).
And so with a bag full of curricula vitarum, and a stomach full of one apple and some water, I ventured out into the city. I had already applied to every Irish bar within skating distance (about 20 of them all up), so it was onto the cafes, and thus I would need to adjust my persuasion. You see, just as one wears a different personality when they set out to their place of employment for the day, so too must one adopt a different personality for requesting employment. Except unlike the steadily employed, a jobseeker must be dynamic with their facade depending on the place in which they seek work. For the role of bar staff (particularly that of an irish bar) it helps to be aloof while remaining professional, an air of confidence in ones experience and ability, and a smidge personable (not too personable though, this is the service industry, wouldn't want people thinking you're an actual human being with independent thoughts and motives). Whereas for a cafe, the expected demeanour tends more towards disciplined, straight-faced, reserved even (but don't be devoid of emotion, you still need to demonstrate enthusiasm for working at this place). Furthermore, while I would present my first language as english, then my knowledge of spanish as a secondary perk of mine when applying to Irish bars; I would instead present myself fully capable in castillano firstly, and add my fluency in english as an afterthought when applying to cafes. This need to chop and change demeanour and presentation (and even the layout of my curriculum vitae) is why I prefer to apply to places in batches within the same approximate field (even if they both exist within the service industry). But today was cafe day, and so the ritual went: find a cafe; spend several minutes hyping myself up for the face-to-face encounter; remove a CV from my bag; walk in and grab the attention of some idle staff (make sure they're idle, not disturbing them from their current responsibilities increases your chances of your resumé not immediately being thrown into the garbage). Taking a swift observation of the staff body I ask: "Es la jefa aqui hoy?" if I'm addressing a woman member of staff, and; "Es el jefe aqui hoy?" otherwise. This isn't due to any presumptions of how employers may discriminate in their hiring practices, but rather that if the member of staff does in fact turn out to be the manager of the store, I believe it adds a little something to be presumptuous in such a way. It gives the idea of a natural sense of who I must be obedient to. Pleasantries exchanged, presence of vacancies inquired about, and at this point I may be subject to outright refusal (not reassuring), an indifferent acceptance of my resumé (also, not reassuring), or occasionally, further inquiries regarding my availability, qualifications and fitness to work. This latter outcome is most preferable for obvious reasons, it signals that my endeavours have not been in vain, that there may be some interest in my indisposed labor, that this was indeed not a day wasted handing out stapled copies of my CV which I had spent what little remained of my money to print out in the first place... I only got one such response today. The proprietor of a distinguished bakery and café took a moment to look over my accomplishments and qualifications, asked me if I could speak castillano (despite me opening the conversation in said tongue), I assured her I was professionally capable in it, told me she would contact me. I thanked her for her time, as I did with everyone I had, this day, handed my life-in-short to.
Admittedly I don't have much confidence she will get back to me at all. Not for a lack of trust in her words, or confidence in what I have to offer to her place of business. I don't expect a response, because I know only disappointment lies there. Do you expect me to earnestly await a reply from every job I think- no, that I KNOW FULL WELL am capable of performing? Here's the thing, I don't do this song-and-dance in places I even suspect I have no chance at being employed at. And yet every round of presenting my best most employable self, I am met with a silence, one that is deafening if you try to listen to it, so I don't.
I fire and forget, I go through the motions. After I get home, when I have run out of either CVs or patience, I then have to face the most painful part of being a job seeker: facing the people who believe in you the most. Or rather the people who act like they believe in you, the truth of their feelings is irrelevant, the important thing is that they care about you enough to say they believe in you, to show they haven't given up hope for you. And while this sentiment certainly comes from a place of love, it hurts.
It hurts to constantly disappoint the people who believe you to be capable of better. And whats worse, once these sentiments float around the conversations long enough, they turn from being explicit to implicit: "Any word back from that interview?" becomes "Any news?", "How goes the job search?" becomes "How have you been?".
It may not be the intention, but it is painfully apparent on the receiving end. These well-meaning sentiments seep into the most inane snippets of conversation, any compliments or reassurances are poignantly given through a lens of barely concealed pity and disappointment.
The words are poisoned.
But knowing the love they were spoken with, I take them in anyway.
And that is why I wake up to the sensation, of boiling oil trickling across the delicate folds of my brain.

Hello! Do you have any advice on getting into freelance coding or remote jobs in the field? I'm having trouble with my current endeavors of applications and my current customer service job isn't doing me well enough to want to stay, so I'm hoping for progress sooner rather than later. Anything helps, thank you!!
Hiya 🖤
Thanks for reaching out with your question about getting into freelance coding or remote jobs. Making a transition can be challenging, but with dedication and strategic steps, you can definitely progress in your career.
Firstly, consider specializing in a specific field of computer science rather than trying to learn everything. This will help you become an expert in a niche, making you more attractive to potential clients or employers.
The big thing to look at is (1) what specific job do you want? Don't know yet? That's the first thing you need to find out. (2) Found the job you want? Go to this website "roadmap.sh" and click the job title you want and look at the roadmap to become it. (3) Have an idea of what you need to learn? Now study :)
Here are some extra key pieces of advice:
Public Code Repositories
Showcase your coding skills by contributing to public repositories on platforms like GitHub, GitLab, or others. This allows potential employers to see your projects and assess your coding abilities.
Online Certifications
Earn certifications from reputable online courses like Freecodecamp, Codecademy, or SheCodes (if you're a woman). Displaying these certifications on your LinkedIn profile adds credibility for remote work or even freelance work because then clients will trust your skills more if it's back up with evidence (projects and/or certificates).
Links: "Massive List of Thousands of Free Certificates" / "The Udemy courses I use" / "FreeCodeCamp" / "Codecedemy" / "SheCodes" / "Udacity" / "Coursera" / "Google"
LinkedIn Profile
Revamp your LinkedIn profile to reflect your job title. Use a title that aligns with your dream job, and highlight your skills, certifications, and projects. You don't even need work experience OR do what a lot of my developer mates do have no work experience and set your "job" as a self-employed freelance developer... little cheat there~!
Links: "LinkedIn Career Explorer" / "Tips for speaking to/reaching out to Recruiter" / "Tips for Landing Your First Entry-Level Developer Job" / "Career Services for Web Development" / "The Talent Cloud Community: Careers Workshop"
Volunteering
Help someone out with a project for their business or whatever. For example, I helped a guy I met in a programming discord server build his portfolio page for free, but I care more about the experience. Search online for volunteer jobs with your dream job title e.g. Volunteer App Develope, but in your country would be better. The experience you can you can add to your LinkedIn. the project you work on you can add to your resume/experience.
Link: "SkilledUp Life"
Networking
Connect with professionals in your field on LinkedIn, even if you don't know them personally. Growing your network can open up opportunities and expose you to valuable insights. Events in person or online, servers (I found volunteer opportunities here), forums, Twitter (I found some mates on there), Instagram (another place I found developer friends). Networking can even help with building group projects~!
Link: "Tips for speaking to/reaching out to Recruiter"
Project Building
Work on both small and big projects to demonstrate your capabilities. Highlight these projects on your resume and portfolio.
Links: "Building projects after learning a new concept advice" / "Tips from learning using multiple resources" / "Tips on learning programming with ChatGPT" / "Harvard University Free IT Courses" / "The Udemy courses I use" / "Free Programming Books" / "Coding Advice for beginners" / "800 free Computer Science classes"
Online Presence
Share your learning progress and projects on various platforms like Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube. Employers often appreciate candidates who actively showcase their work and commitment to learning. I made a post for Tumblr coding blogs:
Link: "Codeblr Blog Advice: 8 Blog Coding Post Ideas"
Good luck!!

HostArmada Review: The Most Customer Centric Hosting Platform Yet?
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/hostarmada-review-the-most-customer-centric-hosting-platform-yet/
HostArmada Review: The Most Customer Centric Hosting Platform Yet?
When I decided to switch my hosting provider, I stumbled on HostArmada and decided to give them a shot. It was a risky choice, though. Emerging providers are, sometimes, not recommendable because of their unproven reliability and limited track record. But HostArmada proves to be different. Entirely different.
HostArmada swept me off my feet with its advanced security and performance-focused features out-of-the-box. What’s more, their servers are hosted on LiteSpeed web servers – almost 11X faster than the Apache servers! As a website owner and developer, I’ve evaluated and tested different hosting providers to find the best fit for my clients and projects. I can boldly say it’s one of the best new hosts I’ve reviewed, and you’ll soon find out why.
In the rest of this HostArmada review, I’ll conduct real-life tests to evaluate this host’s features, pricing plans, performance and customer support. I also included other vitals to help you make an informed decision. Ready? Let’s get started!
HostArmada Review
HostArmada made its debut into the hosting industry five years ago. fresh to the scene. Though they’re still fresh to the scene, they have quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the most popular and reliable web hosts on the internet. In fact, this host is often pitted against industry giants like BlueHost, Hostinger and A2 Hosting…all because of its reliability, speed and performance.
Of course, since they’re less than a decade in the game, one would expect basic features out-of-the-box. However, during my research, I discovered that each feature/tool on their platform is designed to give you a stress-free, secure and optimized web performance.
Like every A-list provider, HostArmada offers all kinds of web hosting you’ll need – WordPress, shared reseller, VPS, and dedicated hosting services. In addition, they also provide open source and development hosting for developers and programmers.
Whichever plan you choose to settle for, you’ll enjoy all the default hosting features such as free SSL certificates, WAF & network firewall, daily backups, etc. They don’t offer free trials or demos, but you get a 45-day money-back guarantee period to decide if they’re worth your investment.
The company snagged a 4.9 star review from over 800 users on TrustPilot:
HostArmada Rating – my personal take
Do your research. You’ll find hundreds (if not thousands) of web hosting providers, each promising secure, reliable, and fast performance. In my experience using and reviewing web hosts, I’ve discovered that a sheer number of them aren’t true to their words. Even the best of them sometimes fall short of their claims.
To evaluate each comparatively, I developed a personal web hosting review system that examines key factors such as performance, reliability, customer support, pricing and features. I use a 1 – 5 grading system, with one as the lowest and five as the highest a provider can get.
Quality My rating Why I gave this score Features and specs 4.9 Free SSL, backups, DoS/DDoS protection, NGINX & LiteSpeed web servers, SSD servers, and unlimited email accounts are a few features you’ll enjoy when you sign up with this provider. However, I gave them this score because their best features (LiteSpeed servers, for instance) are only available on the highest plans. Pricing 4.5 HostArmada is one of the cheapest providers in the market, starting at $2.49/mo. You’ll enjoy many of their enterprise-grade features at this price (best if you’re just getting started online!) However, I discovered that the discounts only apply when you’re paying for a longer duration. This is why I awarded them this score. Performance stats 4.7 I tested HostArmada’s performance and discovered they have an incredible loading speed (240ms) and uptime (100%). I’ve encountered hosts within the same price bracket with better performance stats, so I gave them a 4.7 here. Ease of use 4.6 HostArmada has an attractive and user-friendly interface, an advantage for beginners and pros looking for a stress-free platform. But they still rely on the traditional cPanel for backend management, which is quite old-fashioned for me. This is why I gave them this score. Customer support guarantee 5.0 Reach out to HostArmada’s support team at this second, and they’ll respond soon. Aside from their quick responses, they also offer up to five levels of customer support – email, phone, live chat, ticket and knowledgebase. This is why they have a 5.0 here.

If your website traffic is growing sporadically, it’s likely a sign that you need VPS hosting. Compared to other types of plans, HostArmada VPS hosting is designed to provide redundant and scalable cloud hosting solutions. Who’s this for?
Do you need a server that can accommodate your large web traffic? Then dedicated hosting might be right for you! More specifically, it is important to protect user data from the risks of a shared server. Agencies, developers, and IT professionals looking to manage their client’s websites on one platform can also opt for a dedicated server.

HostArmada’s open-source hosting plans are a combination of their shared hosting plans and Open Source-specific features. If you’re just starting with them, I recommend you opt for the Web Wrap plan because it gives you access to advanced features at a friendly price. Their services are fully managed, so you don’t have to worry about installing or updating your applications, visual themes, and modules.
Who’s this for?
The HostArmada open-source plans are designed for tech startups, developers, enterprise organizations, service providers, and anyone who needs to build or manage open-source projects efficiently.

Speed Reaper

AAs you can see, this is also similar to the shared and open-source hosting plans. I recommend the Web Wrap plan to enjoy rich features at a friendly cost. Luckily, HostArmada’s plans are scalable, so you can seamlessly move to higher plans as your needs grow.
Who’s this for?
Well, you guessed right. The HostArmada Development Hosting plan is designed for developers or other IT professionals needing a developer-friendly hosting environment. You have full access to developer tools such as PHP, SQL, Python, Node.js, SSH access, WP – CLI, etc.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s get into the exciting parts.
HostArmada’s Features
Here are some of the top features offered on all the HostArmada plans:
Free website transfer and SSL certificates
Unlimited databases and FTP accounts
Multiple PHP versions
24/7 human support
Free drag and drop SiteBuilder
Free WAF & IP Firewall
AMP EPYC CPU Cores
Daily backups
Yes…all of these are default hosting features. What makes HostArmada different from other providers in the same category?
For me, it’s their commitment to innovation and providing advanced and modern performance-based features at a competitive price. In fact, all their services pass ten levels of quality assessment before they are released to users!
For starters, I love how they invest in advanced speed-enhancing features. They use the latest AMD Epyc processors, identified as the fastest CPU processors compared to the AMD architectures. At the core of their services is the LiteSpeed web server, which outperforms Apache and Nginx servers combined!
Do you know that most of their services are fully managed? This means if you have other pressing business commitments or are growing beyond your capacity, you don’t have to worry about losing revenue because they manage the technical side of your web hosting.
Their quality customer support makes them top my list. As a website owner, I’ve had my fair share of struggles with web hosts with subpar customer service. Seeing HostArmada’s distinctive performance is a breath of fresh air. See what other users have to say:
Impressive!
HostArmada’s Performance
You’d hardly find a web host who’s upfront about its performance metrics. A good number of them promise reliable performance and speed with minimal downtime. How do you validate this?
Personally, I always recommend trying out the host’s performance before committing for the long term. Sometimes, you’ll find hosts willing to give you a demo or free trial to eliminate all guesses. HostArmada doesn’t offer any of these, so I’ll share my experience with this web host after purchasing their shared hosting plan.
For this test, we’ll focus on three vital performance metrics:
Uptime measures the reliability of your web host. It is the percentage of time your website is accessible to users. No web server is perfect, but a good uptime is 99.0% – 99.99%.
Load time measures how your web page loads when users click on the URL. A good loading time should be >3s.
TTFB measures the time a user takes to receive the first byte of data from your web server. Google recommends a TTFB of 800ms or less.
In a sentence, the faster (or lower) the load time and TTFB, the faster the server delivers your web data to users when they click on the URL. A good uptime also means your website will experience little to no downtime yearly, which is an advantage if you’re in the eCommerce or SaaS niche. All these metrics improve your search engine performance and conversion rates.
HostArmada uses NGINX & LiteSpeed web servers, has advanced caching features, SSD storage drives, high-performance AMD EPYC CPU Cores, and integrates with CloudFlare CDN (content delivery network) – all of which are designed to boost your performance above others hosted on average providers.
In addition, all the websites are hosted on the cloud, which means improved scalability, reliability and flexibility! They also promise a 99.9% uptime, which means your website will always be accessible except during scheduled maintenance.
Let’s validate their claims!
I used GTMetrix to test a website hosted on HostArmada and these were the results:
HostArmada’s performance didn’t fall short of my expectations! Their servers responded in 293ms (0.293s), which is impressive. The overall performance was 99%, which is super impressive.
To test their uptime, I used Uptime Robot to evaluate their performance in the last 30 days. Here’s what I got:
So far, their website has been experiencing 100% uptime, which validates their 99.99% uptime claims.
HostArmada’s Customer Support
HostArmada offers six levels of customer support – knowledgebase, tutorials, live chat, email, phone and ticket.
Let’s examine each in detail:
Knowledgebase
Are you new to web hosting? No problem! HostArmada has a rich resource that caters to almost all vitals on its platform. This includes DIY how-to articles on web hosting, open-source applications, billing and many more:
There’s also a search bar to help you find solutions to issues swiftly.
Tutorials:
If you prefer DIY solutions, you’ll love the detailed articles provided in the HostArmada Learning Center on how to get started or manage your website on their platform. They have a guide on almost all web hosting-related topics and website-relevant topics like how to use Google Analytics:
Support Ticket:
HostArmada also allows users to submit queries via an online ticket, although this is only available to paid users.
Phone:
If you prefer a faster response, HostArmada allows you to speak directly with any of their expert support team via phone. However, there are call charges for locations outside the US.
Live Chat:
HostArmada also allows you to chat live with their hosting experts 24/7/365. The live chat button is tucked at the bottom right corner of their website so that users can easily submit queries.
I initiated a chat to inquire about their services and test their response time. I got a response almost immediately.
Email
Lastly, if all other channels are unresponsive, you can reach out to them via email. You can easily create support tickets on their website that will automatically be forwarded to your email for further assistance.
The best part is that you can chat with specific agents for an even faster response. For example, if you’re experiencing issues related to payments, you can contact the sales department instead.
HostArmada’s security features
I personally love how HostArmada prioritizes the security of websites hosted on their platform. They go beyond the surface-level free SSL certificates and backups to provide top-of-the-line security features, even on their smallest plans.
Their security checks begin with their web servers. Unlike other hosts, they built a security system that checks every IP address connecting their web servers for threats and cyber attacks. For example, they reduce/eliminate the risks of DDoS attacks by establishing a ‘Connection Limit’ for each IP address. This limit reduces the number of requests sent from a single IP address.
Another advantage is their all-round security system – Environment Security Fleet – that secures user web hosting accounts and their associated files. They use advanced network firewalls (with reCAPTCHA protection) and WAF, intrusion detection and prevention systems, malware scanning, and OS patch management features to protect your website from further attacks.
Amazing!
There’s a caveat, though. HostArmada’s daily backups are limited (7 for the smallest shared hosting plan). I’ve seen other providers with similar features provide unlimited daily backups. I hope they can improve on this in the future.
HostArmada’s website builders
Another thing I love about this provider is how they’ve made it easier for anyone to kickstart their digital journey. They have an extensive domain directory where you can find and register the perfect domain for your business:
You can register your domain name for one year without paying any charge:
And when it’s time to build your website, you can opt for any of their plans to access their custom drag-and-drop website builder — HostArmada Website Builder:
You can also build your website with one-click on any of their affiliated CMSs – WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, PrestaShop, and Magento.
Note: If you’re choosing a specific website builder, for instance, WordPress, opt for the web hosting service that specializes or offers support for that platform. HostArmada has WordPress, WooCommerce, and Magento Hosting plans.
User-Friendliness – Ease of use
HostArmada has a modern and intuitive user interface. I find it attractive at first glance, likely because of the blue, purple and pink pastel colors. The icons and texts are also well placed, which makes it easy for anyone to operate, even for beginners. Having a modern design is only one part of the puzzle. Let’s see how easy it is to register and manage an account on HostArmada:
Registering an account with HostArmada
To have full access to any of HostArmada’s hosting features, you have to pay for any of their hosting plans. Here’s how:
Step 1:
Navigate to the top menu bar and click ‘Hosting.’ Proceed to choose any hosting plan from the list. Next, select your preferred package and click ‘Get Started.’
Step 2:
You’ll be redirected to a domain selection page. Here, you can either register a new domain, transfer your domain from another registrar or use your existing domain and update your nameservers:
Step 3:
Next, choose your billing cycle and data centers. You’ll likely see upsells on this page to improve your web performance:
Then, click ‘Preview Order’ to make payments.
Step 4:
Next, review your orders before making payments. I noticed they added an ID protection to the checkout by default. Although it’s useful, I don’t like how it was pre-selected:
Step 5:
Lastly, you’ll be redirected to the checkout page to make payments for your order. Here, input your name, billing address and billing details. They accept only two forms of payment – PayPal and Credit Card. Once you’ve imputed all the necessities, click on ‘Complete Order.’
HostArmada’s Control Panel
As you can see, HostArmada has an intuitive user interface. I would have loved it if they built a custom control panel to match.
However, they use the traditional cPanel to reduce the friction in learning for their web users. This can easily be accessible via the ‘Client Area’
Here, you’ll find all the functionalities to set up and manage your account, including setting up email accounts, installing WordPress in one-click, creating databases, etc.
HostArmada is also compatible with WHM for managing multiple cPanel accounts simultaneously. This is a great feature if you’re buying reseller, VPS or dedicated hosting plans:
Installing WordPress on HostArmada
Installing WordPress on HostArmada is equally effortless. As with other hosting providers with cPanel, you can find and install WordPress in one-click with the Softaculous Auto Installer.
To do this, log into your cPanel account and navigate to the Software section, where you’ll find the Softaculous Apps Installer:
Once you click on it, you’ll be directed to the Softaculous Dashboard, where WordPress is listed under ‘Top Scripts’
Proceed to click on the WordPress icon:
Before you install it, you’ll be required to configure some things. Navigate to the ‘Software Setup’ section to do this. First, choose the WordPress version you wish to install:
Next, enter the site name/ description and create an admin account. Make sure you use details you can easily remember when creating your admin account.
Lastly, select your preferred WordPress theme and click ‘Install’
Voila! You’ll get a congratulatory message once it’s installed:
Server FootPrint and CDS
While fast loading times and uptime are excellent performance metrics, you also need to consider the server footprint of a web host before making any commitments. This is because the closer your host server is to your target audience, the faster your website will load for users in that location. You also need to consider how widespread the data centers are. Web hosts with large server footprints offer better global coverage, which means users from different regions can experience optimal performance when navigating your site.
In addition, if your web host uses a content delivery network (or CDN), it significantly improves loading times by reducing the time to the first byte.
HostArmada has 23 data centers in 5 continents, including North America, Europe and Asia. Their web servers are also powered by CloudFlare CDN, one of the biggest and most reliable in the market.
Conclusion: Do We Recommend HostArmada?
HostArmada might be less than a decade old, but its performance, specs, competitive pricing and customer support make it one of the best in the market. I definitely recommend it!
Whether you’re just launching a new website or a tech startup needing robust infrastructure and reliable support, HostArmada is a good start. Plus, their newness is an advantage. Since they’re already making strides in the hosting industry, I believe they still have better features and updates coming up. Don’t miss out!!

FAQs
What is the speed of HostArmada?
HostArmada claims their infrastructure is connected with 7000 Mbps (Gbps). This means that their servers can handle large volumes of data flow, even during peak hours. This means a better user experience and higher chances of topping the search results.
HostArmada vs Hostinger: Which is better?
HostArmada and Hostinger are reputable providers, each with strengths and service offerings. The difference between the two largely depends on your specific needs and the feature combination these providers have to meet your needs.
For performance, I’ll opt for HostArmada. They both have an impressive load time. However, Hostinger doesn’t offer SSD storage in any of their plans.
If you’re looking to save costs, Hostinger is the way to go. Their plans start at $2.99/month (plus an extra three months free), while HostArmada costs $2.49/month (for a triennial payment).
Overall, I’ll pick HostArmada over Hostinger because of their rich feature list, advanced performance and security technologies and excellent customer support.
What are some HostArmada’s alternatives?
If you’re thinking of using other HostArmada’s alternatives, try out Siteground, BlueHost, ScalaHosting, and Cloudways.

I wanted to get the word out about what is currently happening in regards to Section 504.
Section 504 is an important law that protects people with disabilities. Section 504 says you can’t discriminate against disabled people if you get money from the United States government.
Schools have their own rules regarding Section 504. Students who don't qualify for an IEP will often be placed on a 504 Plan. This plan helps make the learning environment accessible to the student who has the plan. Within this plan, you will find the accommodations that the student needs to be successful at school. A student can have academic accommodations in both the K-12 and college settings. College students can also get living accommodations if they live on campus. People can also request accommodations in the work place.
Health and Human Services have their own rules for people with disabilities when it comes to providing access to medical health care, this includes dentists and behavioral health. There is a wide range of accommodations that health providers are required to provide under Section 504.
This is all thanks to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which Section 504 is included, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which is attached to Section 504.
Section 504 regulations were signed in 1977. Last year, the rule was updated. This was done due to what happened during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among other important protections, the rule now covers:
Discrimination in medical treatment: The rule addresses discrimination in medical care and ensures that medical treatment decisions are not based on biases or stereotypes about people with disabilities, judgments that an individual will be a burden on others, or beliefs that the life of an individual with a disability has less value than the life of a person without a disability. These include, for example, decisions about life-sustaining treatment, organ transplantation, and rationing care in emergencies.
Community integration: The rule clarifies obligations to provide services in the most integrated setting appropriate to the needs of individuals with disabilities, consistent with the Supreme Court’s decision in Olmstead v. L.C.
Accessibility of medical equipment: The rule adopts the U.S. Access Board’s accessibility standards for medical equipment to address barriers to care, like exam tables that are inaccessible because they are not height-adjustable, weight scales that cannot accommodate people in wheelchairs, and mammogram machines that require an individual to stand to use them. The rule requires most doctors’ offices to have an accessible exam table and weight scale within two years.
Web, mobile app, and kiosk accessibility: The rule adopts the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA accessibility standards for websites and mobile applications. It also requires web-enabled systems in self-service kiosks in medical providers’ offices to be accessible. These provisions are particularly important given the increased use of websites, apps, telehealth, video platforms, and self-service kiosks to access health care.
Value assessment methods: Value assessment methods are often used to decide whether a medical treatment will be provided and under what circumstances. The rule prohibits the use of any measure, assessment, or tool that discounts the value of a life extension on the basis of disability to deny, limit, or otherwise condition access to an aid, benefit, or service.
Section 504 is now under attack. There is a court case happening right now where 17 states are trying to end Section 504. If they succeed in ending this foundational law, the laws attached to it (the ADA and civil rights laws pertaining to race and sex) will be in jeopardy.
The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) provides additional information about the court case as well as steps to take to protect Section 504.
"This page explains what the lawsuit Texas v. Becerra is, how Texas v. Becerra threatens Section 504, and why Section 504 is important. Further down on this page, learn what you can do to help."

Published: Mar 14, 2025
What is intelligence? This may sound like a straightforward question with a straightforward answer — the Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “a capacity to understand” — but that definition itself raises an increasingly relevant question in the modern world. What happens if the extent to which we can practically apply that capacity is diminishing? Evidence is mounting that something exactly like this has been happening to the human intellect over the past decade or so.
Nobody would argue that the fundamental biology of the human brain has changed in that far-too-short time span. However, across a range of tests, the average person’s ability to reason and solve novel problems appears to have peaked in the early 2010s and has been declining ever since.
When the latest round of analysis from PISA, the OECD’s international benchmarking test for performance by 15-year-olds in reading, mathematics and science tests, was released, the focus understandably fell on the role of the Covid pandemic in disrupting education. But this masked a longer-term and broader deterioration.
Longer-term in the sense that scores for all three subjects tended to peak around 2012. In many cases, they fell further between 2012 and 2018 than they did during the pandemic-affected years. And broader in that this decline in measures of reasoning and problem-solving is not confined to teenagers. Adults show a similar pattern, with declines visible across all age groups in last year’s update of the OECD’s flagship assessment of trends in adult skills.
Given its importance, there has been remarkably little consistent long-running research on human attention or mental capacity. But there is a rare exception: every year since the 1980s, the Monitoring the Future study has been asking 18-year-olds whether they have difficulty thinking, concentrating or learning new things. The share of final year high school students who report difficulties was stable throughout the 1990s and 2000s, but began a rapid upward climb in the mid-2010s.
This inflection point is noteworthy not only for being similar to performance on tests of intelligence and reasoning but because it coincides with another broader development: our changing relationship with information, available constantly online.
Part of what we’re looking at here is likely to be a result of the ongoing transition away from text and towards visual media — the shift towards a “post-literate” society spent obsessively on our screens.
The decline of reading is certainly real — in 2022 the share of Americans who reported reading a book in the past year fell below half.
Particularly striking however is that we see this alongside decreasing performance in the application of numeracy and other forms of problem-solving in most countries.
In one particularly eye-opening statistic, the share of adults who are unable to “use mathematical reasoning when reviewing and evaluating the validity of statements” has climbed to 25 per cent on average in high-income countries, and 35 per cent in the US.
So we appear to be looking less at the decline of reading per se, and more at a broader erosion in human capacity for mental focus and application.
Most discussion about the societal impacts of digital media focuses on the rise of smartphones and social media. But the change in human capacity for focused thought coincides with something more fundamental: a shift in our relationship with information.
We have moved from finite web pages to infinite, constantly refreshed feeds and a constant barrage of notifications. We no longer spend as much time actively browsing the web and interacting with people we know but instead are presented with a torrent of content. This represents a move from self-directed behaviour to passive consumption and constant context-switching.
Research finds that active, intentional use of digital technologies is often benign or even beneficial. Whereas the behaviours that have taken off in recent years have been shown to affect everything from our ability to process verbal information, to attention, working memory and self-regulation.
The good news is that underlying human intellectual capacity is surely undimmed. But outcomes are a function of both potential and execution. For too many of us the digital environment is hampering the latter.

It's currently 9am , my goal today is to create a full-stack chat application .
And I also wanted to respond to @thepordigycarb's comment
You absolutely did not waste 6 years in my opinion. Algorithms are fundamental to every programming language. In my college experience, we dedicated an entire semester to studying algorithms, and it greatly helped us understand programming concepts. Algorithms foster critical thinking skills, which are essential for a coding journey. Understanding algorithm complexity is crucial because many companies assess problem-solving abilities during interviews. The best solutions are those with optimal complexity. This is where your 6 years of learning come into play. Additionally, knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP) is vital.Java is indeed used in web development, with popular frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate.
Therefore, the post I published does not cover everything, but rather focuses on the essential basics that aspiring web developers need to know.
