Another round! 2, 6 (haha), 16 and 17.
And a bonus gif of Mr Efficient to honour our delightful conversation.
Tumblr media
ROUND TWO DING DING DING! :D :D :D
2. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? OOH. I answered this already here, but that wasn't the only new thing, I don't think. Hmmmm. ahahaha I finally wrote some Glorfindel/Thranduil in response to a prompt and I really enjoyed putting together these two very strong characters and strident voices in the back of my head. :D :D :D
6. What character(s) captured your heart? Oh dammit, Mr Efficient is absolutely up there, although I haven't actually written him yet. I just love him so much, particularly in his Cartwright!incarnation. Also my inconveniently insistent and talkative Italian RPF muses (all four members of Måneskin, dammit) who I was not expecting, did not particularly intend to end up writing, thinking my RPF days were at least 15 years in the past, but who WILL NOT SHUT THE HELL UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE DAMMIT.
16. What’s your favorite title of the year? Oooh. *scrolls back through stats spreadsheet* I am very fond of in the meantime, you've got me, which was kind of a placeholder title during the madness of Writers' Month (a fic a day for the whole of August) but has kind of grown to fit the story (Théoden survives the Battle of the Pelennor Field and finds himself developing something of a rapport with Ioreth).
17. Share your favorite opening line Oh man. I am terrible at picking favourites, and I write so ridiculously much that I tend to forget what I've written, even though I reread my own stuff SO MUCH, but let's have a look...hmm! Not so much an opening line as an opening couple of paragraphs, but here's the beginning of the Glorfindel/Thranduil fic linked above:
Something crosses the border of the Woodland Realm, and Thranduil feels it, as he senses every incursion into his kingdom, so deeply is he attuned to the forest. As a spider feels a fly blundering even into the outermost threads of its web, so Thranduil knows when any intruder crosses his borders, however small. Queen Melian taught him well, and he needs no Ring of Power to maintain his borders, even against the Necromancer’s poison, although his Woodland Guard are kept ever-busy dealing with the spiders and other foul creatures that issue forth from Dol Guldur. This is no spider, though; this is a traveller, riding alone up the Enchanted River from the Old Forest Road, and Thranduil inwardly raises an eyebrow, though he shows no indication of his thoughts upon his face. Nobody travels alone in Middle-Earth these days. Nobody - except one who does not need to fear the forces of the Enemy. So his unexpected visitor is either Mithrandir - or Glorfindel. Thranduil is not sure which he would be less pleased to see. Mithrandir speaks in riddles and always brings bad news, and Glorfindel - well. Glorfindel brings bad memories.
I am ludicrously fond of Thranduil and his complexities, and of Glorfindel and his hidden depths, and I had so much fun putting them together at last in this one! :D :D :D
wheeeee, thank you so much for asking! And for the gif of Mr Efficient, who I love inordinately, especially in that incarnation. XDDDD Cartwright!Sauron and his innate ability to fuck up any opportunity that happens to come his way, I adore him. <3333333

intro post <( ̄︶ ̄)> ✿ carrd
Tumblr media
Ise, afab but any pronouns work
I edit pictures and videos and post them here and/ on tt sometimes alongside whatever else I feel like needs to be spit out of my brain (also I live blog a lot)
I watch and follow F1 (no feeders) as well as lolesports (but I only watch LCK tbh)
Requests, asks, etc are very open, I love to yap and interact and all that other stuff
F1:
Oscar Piastri is and will always be my favourite driver but I also like;
George Russell, Max Verstappen, Alex Albon, and (kind of begrudgingly) Carlos Sainz
↑why? Cus my favourite team is Williams Racing (but I have developed a habit of not talking about them (2020s williams pre 2025 was rough guys))
LCK:
They would've definitely had my head in 2016 or (whatever higher beings forbid) 2017, my favourite player is Ruler and my favourite team is T1
also my second favourite team is GenG so... Other players I like include the rest of T1 and GenG's 2025 roster + most of the toplaners in the lck
Not an rpf heavy account but will occasionally have rpf stuff so if you're uncomfortable with it pls ignore/block (also, I don't tag a post as f1 rpf/lol rpf unless it's explicitly rpf so if the post (not including my extra comments in the tags) itself is not RPF in big bold letters, I won't add rpf tags)

i love how so many people in the comments are associating getting rid of child porn with getting rid of gay content, really pushing the vintage homophobia. ao3 has a child pornography problem, and it is not evil to want to address that. the fact that REAL CHILDREN have porn written about them is vile and it should not be something that is allowed on ANY website.
who even are you lol
anyway. Like, shit-tons of people have articulated this better than I'm about to, but yeah I'll give it a shot
When people, particularly queer people (like me) talk about censorship of fandom spaces inevitably leading to the purging of queer content, we're not pulling that concern out of our asses. It has happened Over and Over and Over and Over and Over again. It happened with fanfiction.net, with livejournal, with old-ass email lists and dinky web.1 sites and email lists made by tiny groups of people, it happened with tumblr, it even happened with youtube (the demonetization and soft-blocking of queer content, and when creators tried to appeal, they were told that their content was unsuitable for children (HMMMMMM))
There is a huge amount of historical precedent off of which to base the fear of censorship leading to the purging of queer content.
We're gonna put aside the dead horses of 'just because you write about something doesn't mean you endorse it in real life' and 'fiction =/= reality' (because I think those both often lack nuance when brought up in this conversation, and overlook some very real exceptions). Alright? We're not gonna beat those horses at all. Put them out of your mind.
I agree with you that real children having porn written about them is completely vile (honestly I hate rpf in general, but in the case of children it's especially reprehensible). I wouldn’t be sad at all to see underage fics be purged from AO3, honestly, if I thought there was a way to do that without it inevitably leading to queer content and queer creators being obliterated from the site. Which I don't, currently, because it's literally never been done.
The thing about associating queer content with csam (and pushing the 'vintage homophobia') is that QUEER PEOPLE AREN'T DOING IT. I keep seeing this come up like it's some blazing hot big-brain take, but it's just, incredibly fucking insulting. Knock it the fuck off with this asinine assertion that queer people are victimizing ourselves and bringing this association on of our own volition.
Take a look at any conservative twitter account (particularly conservative politicians) and count how many times they call queer folks (particularly trans folks, and especially trans women) 'groomers'. It's literally like, their big hot button issue right now, calling queer people pedophiles and groomers, and attempting to get legislation introduced which categorizes us as such
WE ARE NOT FUCKING DOING THIS. THEY ARE.
Okay so let's go on a little hypothetical journey, yeah?
You censor underage fics. Okay cool! What does that mean? Where's the line? What constitutes a child? Under eighteen? Under sixteen? The brain doesn't really stop developing until around twenty-five, so should that be considered the line? Is it still objectionable if both characters are underage? If both characters are, say, fifteen, and this fic was written by some horny fifteen-year-old who, whilst trying to figure out their own sexuality, just wanted to write about their blorbos fooling around, should that be purged?
When I was a teenager, I wrote about teenage girls being ravished by older men, because I myself was attracted to older men. Should I have been punished for that? Should my content have been deleted? It never felt like some mortal sin I should have to atone for; it was fantasy fulfillment through the safe space of fucking fanfiction.
If other teens do that, and post their fics online (because teenagers do indeed have a right to post their mature fics online if they want to), should they be required to divulge private information about themselves to justify their content existing? Should readers be required to divulge private information to verify their own teenagerhood before reading the fics, to prevent intergenerational cross-contamination? What if they lie? How would that be enforced? Is that even ethical, to force people to divulge actual, real life private information like that for the sake of keeping a fandom space 'morally pure'?
Moving on from that, let's say we somehow figure out how to purge only the truly morally bad and gross fics (which, to be sure, some of them are obvious and easy). Well, okay, but maybe while we're at it, we should go ahead and purge [insert additional objectionable content of your choosing here], because it also has no place in polite society.
And again, how do we draw that line? We could have that above back-and-forth conversation for every single morally objectionable category on AO3, and you will never find a solution that doesn't catch innocent people in the crossfire, nor will you ever find a solution that doesn't lead to further descent down the slippery slope of censorship
When conservatives (and yes, censorship is almost always inherently conservative) get a foot in the door of power, they do not stop. They might start with purging the obviously nasty and gross fics, but they will take it farther (and we know they will because again, this has already happened Over and Over and Over and Over). Queer content will inevitably, invariably, always be on the chopping block when censorship comes into play, because to conservatives, queer people are pedophiles just, inherently -- and thus our content is automatically categorized as csam or grooming material.
Sometimes the slippery slope is real. And there's heaps of historical and cultural precedent for this one in particular.
So like. I'm really solely concerned with queer content being purged, because I've literally watched it happen before, and I care more about queer rights, and queer content, and queer people in general, than I care about the murky morality of writing questionable fanfiction (which are, y'know, as a sidenote, nearly always appropriately tagged and warned for so as to be easily avoidable; the dead dove tag trend is a gift, actually)
AND..... this is all putting aside the fact that AO3 was never meant to be a moderated space in the first place. It's literally just an ARCHIVE, it's right there in the name. It has no morals of its own, nor any responsibility to bear such. It's like throwing your fic into a remarkably well-organized warehouse (perhaps, with bookshelves, and some sort of.... system to find what you want; I feel like we might have a name for these spaces in real life? but idk) and then peacing out.
anyway AO3 good, go suck a conservative's clown shoes since you wanna join their circus so bad

Soooo I was looking through my drafts because there's posts in there years old, and I found this old fanfiction question list that my dear friend @thuriweaver tagged me in two years ago and I thought what the heck, I'll fill that out tonight because I've been trying to work on writing more lately. So, without further ado...
1.How many works do you have on AO3?
95!
Though I've written more, there are things on @ironwhumper359 and @ironwoman359-writes that aren't fandom related and are only on tumblr, and there's probably some other things on my masterlist that aren't on AO3 either, maybe I ought to comb through it at some point and upload more!
2. What is your total AO3 word count?
333,493! And fun fact, I just counted that up manually from all 95 fics because I thought AO3 didn't display that stat, but it turns out I just wasn't logged in. The stat page says I actually has 335,438 words, so either I missed a fic or it includes the author's notes or summaries in that count.
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
If you look at the fandom list it has 10, but I think 5 is a more accurate count, which I'll explain in a sec. These are the fandoms on AO3:
Sanders Sides (Web Series) (87)
Super Mario & Related Fandoms (3)
Marvel Cinematic Universe (3)
Undertale (Video Game) (3)
Leverage (2)
Video Blogging RPF (2)
Who Killed Markiplier? (Web Series) (1)
In Space With Markiplier (Web Series) (1)
Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo (1)
Markiplier TV (Web Series) (1)
The thing is, the two fics in the "video blogging" fandom are markiplier ego fics and I'd lump those, Who Killed Markiplier, In Space With Markiplier, and Markiplier TV all as one fandom, and also, all the Super Mario fics and MCU fics are actually both Sanders Sides AUs, so those aren't really separate fandoms either.
A better list would be:
Sanders Sides
Markiplier
Undertale
Leverage
Six of Crows
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
So this was fascinating to look at! I'm going to list them in reverse order, for the Drama.
5: How to Catch a Fairy, posted on June 16th, 2020 with 2,918 hits and 515 kudos. This is a very short little oneshot, filling a prompt from a Bad Things Happen Bingo card, "Used as Bait." I really enjoyed writing this one, but I'm surprised it's beat out so many of my other, older fics. It has almost 100 more kudos than Our Own Villain, the (admittedly incomplete) fic that is my 6th biggest in kudos and kind of put me on the map in the TSS fandom. I guess people really like fae, feral protective love interests, and analogical.
4: Phase One, originally posted on September 11th, 2020, with 3,575 hits and 532 kudos. Now this is far less surprising, the Marvel AU is one of my most popular stories, with an entire sideblog dedicated to developing it, and it is by far the story I am most asked about continuing. The story is told partly through in universe S.H.I.E.L.D. documents and internal communications, questions on @ask-agent-sanders, and traditionally posted stories. Phase One is the AO3 name for the traditional story portion of the universe, each chapter being an entry in the story. The plan was, eventually, to create a fic called Phase Two for stories taking place post-Avengers (2012) content, but I haven't updated the fic in nearly 2 years.
3: A Part of the FamILY, originally posted on May 9th, 2018, with 5,326 hits and 696 kudos. According to the author's notes, I originally wrote the fic in February of 2018 to celebrate 1,000 tumblr followers, so it makes sense that it would have a lot of kudos. It also leans HEAVILY on a lot of tropes that the TSS fandom was really into at the time, and even has song lyrics in it with links to said songs on spotify. I stand by the quality of the actual story and writing on display here, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that those aspects make me cringe just a bit today 😅
2: A Fiendly Reunion, originally posted on July 7th, 2019, with 7,621 hits and 766 kudos. This story is one of my proudest achievements, both in the TSS fandom and as a writer in general. At 30,000+ words over 10 chapters, it is the longest single fic I've ever posted, and the only multichapter fic over 4 chapters that I've ever completed, outside a Big Bang challenge I did in 2018. It took over a year to write, and was a huge passion project for me. I'm really, really happy that it's at the number two spot, and that my readers loved it as much as I did. I'd honestly be surprised that it wasn't at the number one spot, if it weren't for what IS at the number one spot...
1: Broken Wings, originally posted on September 9th, 2018 with 7,747 hits and 1,159 kudos. This fic is the most popular thing I've ever posted on AO3, and it's tumblr cross-post has over 1,000 notes, which is a lot for a fanfiction on this site. Why? It's short, at just under two thousand words, it's angsty and it's fluffy, it has protective-and-self-sacrificing Virgil, protective light sides, vague and abusive dark sides (this was 2018, ok, the fandom was a very different place then), it has wings, and to top it all off it was actually based on fanart, this amazing workby @asofterfan who came up with all the wing designs and potential dynamics that the winged sides would have, I just took their vision and translated it to words. I kind of love that my most popular work is actually something that's collaborative in nature, I think it says something about the way fandom comes together as a community <3.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do! I used to not as often because I felt awkward, and I'm not gonna lie, I still do sometimes, but these days I try to respond when possible, because I really, really appreciate comments! They're absolutely everything as a creative.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I'm not really into angsty endings, very rarely do I leave something unhappy on purpose. Sometimes I start out with something unhappy, only to later go and add more fic to give it a happier ending. I'm Left in the Dark originally was a short prompt fill, chapter 1, but then I went back and wrote chapters 2 and 3 to resolve the plot.
All that to say, I think the angstiest ending out there is actually the ending of an instant of great white gravity, which is the first installment in a series I hope to write more for that I'm calling Before and After, though I haven't made it a series on AO3 yet. By it's very nature of being a prequel to the events of Who Killed Markiplier, the whole thing has big 'doomed by the narrative' energy, and even though not every fic will necessarily have a melancholy tone, great white gravity does, because it's about Will being too late to ask Celine out and having to live with watching her marry Mark instead, and about Damien watching the friend group he used to be able to count on be irrecoverably changed by this tension. Goooood angst, right there!
7. Do you ever write crossovers?
I do! Or, I've written one, at least. The Marvel AU isn't a recasting like most of my other AUs based on existing stories, the Marvel characters also exist and are in the story.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I don't believe so, no! I've been very fortunate in that regard, the little hate I have received over the years has all been in my askbox directly, never in the comments of a fic that I can recall.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope! Sex-repulsed asexual over here, but y'all have fun in your corner of the internet!
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
To my knowledge/recollection, no, but I do know that someone reposted one of my fics on Wattpad once. They credited me as the author though, so I didn't ask them to take it down, but in general, I don't like it when people do that.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Until the Sun Rises, a walking dead style zombie AU, is a collab with @buzz-by-bee, aka @a-valourous-choice, author of the To Build a Home series! We haven't updated it in a long time (oops) but it has a sideblog over on @until-the-sun-rises that has some pretty sweet fanart as well as all the content if you're interested!
You Don't Own Me (You Don't Even Know Me) also started out as a collab with @5-falsehoods-phonated, aka RoseyWinter on AO3, but he has since left the project and left me to finish our plan on my own (which I keep saying that I'll do and then not doing, whoops).
Also, I swear I've written a fic with @theinvisiblespoon, but maybe I'm just thinking of the hours we used to spend rp-ing and all the times we've talked about writing a more structured story together and then just never doing it (have you spotted the theme yet?)
12. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Oh gosh, that's so hard. Even back when I only wrote for One fandom I was a multishipper, and now I'm shipping in other fandoms? Too many good choices, how dare you make me choose. If I have to limit it to 5 all time favorites though... Analogical, Moxiety, LAMP, Kanej, and the Leverage OT3.
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Undertale! if you go waaay back on my AO3...or, you know, just click on the Undertale fandom link there, you can see the few works that I put out: a series of prompts for Cheer Up the Skeleton Week, an event focusing on depicting Sans as Happy for once, an OC self insert story that I quickly abandoned after a few chapters, and Your Fault, a piece about the multiverse breaking down that I'm still actually pretty proud of, all things considered.
14. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Oof, that may be the hardest yet. A Fiendly Reunion, because I actually finished it? A Sanders Carol, because it was my first ever Big Bang, and my first ever completed multi-chapter fic? The Secret History of the Invincible II, because it's new and exciting? They're Only Children because I have so many ideas for it? I honestly couldn't tell you. I love all of them, they're all very dear to me.
15. BONUS QUESTION: Do you have a WIP that haunts you?
Dude, all of them. If I've filtered things correctly on AO3, then of the 24 works in progress that I've started, only 9 are actually complete. That's 15 unfinished stories floating around in my mind, and I know it's actually at least 17, because there are two that show up as completed because I'm doing multiple single works in a series instead of chapters in a single work, so they look complete right now but I know that they're not, plus there's a few that never have been posted to begin with. SO many unfinished stories.
But the one that haunts me the most has to be Our Own Villain, because it is quite possibly my oldest wip, over 5 years old at this point, and it's still not finished but I want it to be so badly. Other wips I've kind of made peace with potentially not continuing, but I swear to god, OOV has to finish before I die, even if Sanders Sides as a show has changed so much since January of 2018 when I first had the idea that the whole premise is now fundamentally flawed, I just have to finish. It's my fanfiction white whale.
---
This was fun! If you've never read any of my work before (tho let's be real, if you made it this far you probably have), I do have a masterlist pinned right at the top of this blog that you can check out. Most of this post was sanders sides because it's what I've written the most of, but I'm actually focusing more on some in space with markiplier and six of crows stuff fic wise, as well as my own original writing. Thanks for reading, I'm not going to tag anyone specific since this challenge is so old. Any writer who sees this and wants to do it, go for it!

2000s Tolkien Fanfiction Splash Pages
Tumblr media
If you read Tolkien fanfiction in the 2000s, you probably passed a splash page or two in your quest for fic. These pages, located at the site's index page or homepage, served as a buffer between the visitor and the site's content. You often had to click to "enter" the site. They contained warnings; disclaimers; spiffy images and backgrounds; affiliate links, awards, webrings, and Yahoo! Groups; and (my favorite) invitations to LEAVE NOW if "offended" by the content on the site. (The LEAVE NOW link usually pointed to Google.com, though Least Expected helpfully invites wayward prudes to "Head on over to theonering.net or something.)
I grabbed the text from about a dozen splash pages from the early-mid 2000s (the oldest, King & Herald, was from 2007; all others are 2001-4) and made the word cloud above, which illustrates the climate and concerns of fanfiction archivists in the first years Tolkien-based fanfiction was online.
I'll share a few of my favorite splash pages below the jump.
Fanfiction was scary. Slashfic was scarier.
Tumblr media
Many splash pages assumed that the people visiting the site were going to be offended by the content of the site, especially if that content was slash fanfiction. I already mentioned the LEAVE NOW links above. Also typical was the understanding that explicit fanfiction (especially slash) was for people over the age of 18. The splash page for Least Expected, circa 2001 and the earliest Tolkienslash archive on the internet, shows how splash pages foregrounded deterrence, even in a group that was unapologetic about its interests, reflecting the larger cultural panic about growing acceptance of sexuality, especially LGBTQIA+.
Sites spelled out very clearly what could be found there: adult-rated material, same-sex pairings, and real person fic (RPF), for example. The site Legolas in Chains even had illustrations. (Content warning for incest and non-con and graphic acts performed by stick figures; see the Legolas in Chains splash page here.) "I will not hold responsibility ..." writes the Legolas in Chains' archivist before launching into the text version of the warning, "just in case you don't get the picture above." This was an important cultural difference between fanfiction fandom in the 2000s and now: Archivists and group owners assumed it was at least partly their responsibility to shield "web surfers" (especially children) from the content on their sites and groups and made an effort to demonstrate that they were fulfilling this obligation.
Slash and adult-rated content weren't the only anxieties on archivists' minds. The words disclaimer, copyright, and permission occurred frequently too. And even larger than those words: please. While many of these splash pages are very direct and some use humor, they tend to be polite. The overwhelming sense from many of this is, "We're not harming you. Please just leave us alone."
2000s Tech.
Tumblr media
Splash pages also showcase the rapidly evolving technology of the web. You wanted your splash page to show that you knew what you were doing. The splash page for Meduseld above is a beautiful example.
Splash pages often included banners and graphics, visitor counters, and of course, links to the guestbook. Images sometimes moved and twinkled. Colored text and patterned backgrounds showed the designer's HTML and CSS skills.
Splash pages also reflected the challenges of creating webpages (especially if you were trying to be cutting-edge) in an era where web standards were not universally adopted and sites displayed differently depending on the browser, OS, and resolution of your screen. Splash pages sometimes advised which resolution worked best with the site (some offered a choice!) and which browser the site had been designed in.
Affiliates: A Little Help from My Friends.
Tumblr media
The splash pages for Middle Earth Romance Fan-Fiction and Meduseld both highlight the importance of a splash page in announcing your affiliates. The majority of these archives developed out of a community, usually on Yahoo! Groups, and linking to the group was essential. As Middle Earth Romance Fan-Fiction shows, sites also had "sister sites" sometimes: sites created by the same designer (but with different focuses) or that otherwise shared resources and collaboration.
The fanfiction community (okay, the internet in general) was also much more fragmented than it is today. Consider that, in the 2000s, there were dozens (probably hundreds, if not more) Tolkien fanfiction archives online. Many of these sites were small and highly specialized. Furthermore, search engine technology was rudimentary, so it wasn't like today when you visit a handful of sites (say, AO3 and Tumblr), type in a tag or search term, and there is your fannish experience, all in one place. You had to work to find groups and archives about what interested you--a challenge compounded by the fact that many of these groups and archives legit feared being sued by New Line or the Tolkien Estate and didn't want to be found.
Webrings, cliques, fanlistings, and awards were one way that small sites got the word out to friendly company. Once you found one site, you could meander through the webring to find others like it. You could join email lists (like Yahoo! Groups) to unlock even more access, since these groups were most often members-only. Most sites had both "Links" and "Link to Us" pages, and exchanging links with another site was common.
You can see my splash page collection here, using the earliest Wayback Machine capture I could find.

Top Five Golang Module Developers Should Know In 2023
In the world of programming language GO is an incredibly powerful language that is used for multiple purposes. Golang is a fast, reliable, and easy-to-use language that gains rapid popularity due to its booming features.
Golang is easy to scale as it has fantastic documentation so, we look at the top 5 Golang modules that make work easier with Go. so, before moving to the Golang module, let me clear the definition of the go module.
A module is a group of Go packages that store in a file tree with Go. Moreover, the module path defines the mod file that can import a path that uses the root directory with its dependency requirement so other modules can be successfully built.
Top 5 Golang Module For Developer
Goose Database Migration
If you are dealing with modifying the DB schema then Goose is providing the best solution. With goose packages, developers can make schema change and data migration easily. Moreover managing the schema changes the primary task when you are working with relational databases so, let’s see how to use and install.

How long did it take you to become this well of a writer? Do you have any tips or suggestions? I want to make my writing more exciting and vibrant like yours is. I feel like it's not as good as yours and I want it to be the best it can be.
Hey there, @fangirlthatreads! I’ve been sitting on this ask for a while and I do apologise for that, but I was so incredibly touched that you came to me with this kind of question that I wanted to answer it as best as I could, and create a sort of masterpost for writing in the process. I’m devoting my whole day to answering this, so hopefully it’s worth the wait :)
So, to answer your first question, I guess I’ve always enjoyed and have been fairly competent in writing. I wrote all throughout school, but never really got the opportunity to continue that in college, so I got a bit rusty. I only really started again recently (Sprousehart and Bughead were too tempting to resist), which has just been the most joyful, creativity-unleashing thing. I started simply by writing the beginning for “Tomorrow” because I couldn’t get the idea out of my head, and I had a very vocal cheerleader (hi, @jandjsalmon) encouraging me to write the whole thing. I haven’t looked back since then.
As for tips and suggestions, I thought about this for a long time and came up with the following, which I’ve tried to divide into three sections after the cut - READ, LISTEN, WRITE.
Anyway, without any further ado, I give you –
paperlesscrown’s personal guide to writing
—-READ—-
I mean, your account name kind of gives it away, but I’m sure you read a lot! But my #1 tip for writers is to read voraciously. I often think of it as fuel for the tank: you can’t put out what you don’t put in. When I run into writers’ block, it’s the first thing I do - I purchase a book for my Kindle and bunker down and read.
Three kinds of reading that I do:
Fanfic - This is a no-brainer. It’s important to expose yourself to the different interpretations of the canon and the characters you are writing about. I must admit that I’m not always the most up-to-date fanfic reader, but I am always hitting up @blueandgoldoffice and my dear friend @theatreofexpression for suggestions and recommendations.
Literature - This is important, too. As amazing as fanfic writers are, there is a whole other universe out there of incredibly written original fiction (and poetry!). Anything I can get my hands on, I get onto it. It’s why I bought myself a Kindle - I carry it around with me everywhere to make sure that I am constantly feeding my brain with exciting plots and engaging characters and beautifully turned phrases.
I often try to read specifically, too. What do I mean by this? So, for example, when I was writing “Apparitions”, which included huge chunks of dialogue between Cole and Lili, I chose to read One Day by David Nicholls, which I knew had a lot of earthy, realistic dialogue between a couple in love. When I was writing my first smutty fic (“In here, too”), I made sure to read The Boss by Abigail Barnette, which is an INCREDIBLE Dom/Sub series (which honestly every Dom!Jug writer should read) with amazingly written sex scenes.
I also make sure I read different formats - not just chapter books, but also longform articles, poetry, etc. I read a lot of short stories because I write exclusively in one-shots, so reading them allows me to see how writers develop plot within a limited word count.
Writers’ resources - This is something I’ve started doing recently, and it’s made such a huge difference. There is a whole world of writers’ resources out there. I recently bought the Emotion Thesaurus, which is described as “a writers’ guide to character expression.” It. Is. Amazing. It catalogues an emotion and the different ways a character could express them (that way I’m able to avoid cliches or vary the way that the emotion is expressed). It’s formatted like this:
Tumblr media
It’s quite cheap on Amazon and such a worthwhile purchase. You should also check out websites such as Reference for Writers, which has SO MANY amazing resources for writers, plus links to similar websites.
Meta - Read analysis on your characters, whether it’s a recap from website like Vulture and AV Club or (with Riverdale specifically) meta posts from places like @riverdalemeta, which compiles all the incredible theorising from around the fandom. It helps you think about your characters more clearly. A good story always comes from a good grasp of character, and sometimes meta posts make a world of difference in understanding a character.
—-LISTEN—-
Listen to…
1. A beta. I cannot emphasise this enough. Betas make all the difference between a good piece of writing and a great one. My forever beta, @jandjsalmon, has saved from terrible writing decisions and has also steered me towards incredible ones. @theatreofexpression is a constant source of ideas, headcanons and discussions about the show. The thing about betas is that they are essentially your first audience and an important first filter for your work. They are able to pick up on inconsistencies, disruptions to flow, awkward phrasing, spelling and grammar errors, etc. I often think about them as the midwives for our stories. I may be the one giving birth to it, but it’s the beta who guides me with how to breathe, stand, position myself, etc. and essentially get the baby out into the world (sorry for the weird metaphor, lol). Always, always try and work with one.
2. The characters you are writing about. A handy tip - whenever I am writing, I put the show on in the background (as long as it’s not distracting), or interviews with the actors (if I’m writing RPF). It helps me to get a good grasp on their voice. With Bughead, I’m not much of an AU author - I prefer writing and expanding on canon scenes, so it’s important for me to try and get the voice, tone and phrasing of each character right (as well as the overall tone and atmosphere of the scene).
3. Music. Music can activate some really strong emotions and neurological reactions in us that help us to write well. Some people like writing to playlists (I made one for “What she wanted”), while others like listening to instrumental music. Both are fine, although sometimes I can find lyrics quite distracting. In terms of instrumental music, I listen to a lot of Philip Glass (classical and heavy) and Explosions in the Sky (indie and atmospheric) when I write.
—-WRITE—-
I guess there’s nothing left to do but to write!
Start small. I write a lot of drabbles, as you may have noticed, and those are just small writing exercises for me to keep the words flowing. Not everything you write will contribute to an amazing story, but it’s important to keep putting ideas to paper.
Engage in writing prompts. These don’t have to be Bughead-specific. There are plenty of writing prompts on the net - Pinterest is a great place to find some good ones!
Do writing sprints. I actually learned about this idea from the incredible @tory-b, who does this with other writers on the wonderful Bughead Family Discord. It’s basically stretches of 30 minutes to an hour where you do nothing but write. It doesn’t have to be perfect - it just needs to be written down. It’s a way for you to knuckle down and focus and not have any sort of pressure in terms of getting everything perfect. While my job and life often prevent me from engaging in these, they’re an awesome idea for any budding writer.
Practical tip: Google Docs is your friend. This is a tip just for logistics, but I write on Google Docs rather than Microsoft Word because it’s a lot more portable and I work on multiple devices throughout the day. I have Google Docs installed on my phone and I access it via my web browser off my laptop. This just means I can work on a story when I’m travelling, when I’m at home, even when I’m standing in line at a grocery store. I’m often hit by inspiration quite randomly, so this works really well for me. It’s also the best tool for betas - they are able to edit and make comments in a way that’s easy for them and doesn’t involve multiple file-sending.
Anyway. I truly apologise for that insane essay, but I hope this can help you (and anyone else). If you have any other questions, please feel free to send them to me! I hope we can read more of your work soon! xx

I’m fine and generally in agreement with the statement that MXTX’s work is pockmarked with homophobia and misogyny/transmisogyny. Especially svsss. Has a wonderfully funny and clever premise, but it’s absolutely bogged down with the weird, unbalanced main relationship and sidelining of female characters (though to be fair they are literal harem fodder in the metatext. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t have had someone more well rounded but it’s a “logical” way to write them). Honestly the best way to fix these issues was just to lean further into the fact Shen Yuan is trying to fight a preestablished narrative and have LBH still explicitly “imprison” him, but this time out of a weird, obsessive facsimile of love, and not have them marry in the end or have any form of happy ending together. SQQ can either escape through his own means or we can leave the story there, I don’t really care. Just making it a romance is what tarnished it tbh, and I think making the story more focused on the limits of web based fiction, power fantasies, fatalism, etc along with highlighting the way the harem cast were written was a part and parcel of XTDF’s low opinion of women would’ve made it not horrible. But unfortunately it is what it is.
However, calling mdzs fetishizing media based on criticisms (or even a plain Wikipedia entry) of MXTX is bizarre to me. This story that - while a romance - focuses mainly on the political strife between ruling factions vying for power, subjugation of the population of a tyrant clan - who were not responsible for and opposed the actions of their government - which was justified by the man who their government made orphaned based on their blood ties, a man who loses everything in his life by his own hands who has to come to grips with the fact that either he should allow himself to succumb to the darkness he was cast into - proving the naysayers against demonic cultivation right - or rise above and turn that power into a brutal weapon against injustice at the cost of his own life, plus a weird scooby doo mystery turned machiavellian plot of subterfuge, cool ghost fights, and fucking control of the underworld or some shit... is just gay fetishization because a woman wrote it. A story where, at the romantic core, the homosexual main couple accept their attraction for eachother, develop a mutual, consensual relationship, and eventually get married and raise a child together is on par with idfk gay p*rn doujins then I’m really confused for you. I laugh off that whole “it’s misogynistic to call me gross for making Minecraft rpf slash fiction” but when I see yall calling an author homophobic just for writing gay fiction as a woman then it’s really no longer sounding like you are focusing on protecting gay men anymore. Is mdzs perfect and unproblematic? Nope! Not by a long shot! But chucking it in the same trash can as fucking shameless gay hentai because it’s been assigned the same genre is dumb as hell and lazy engagement with what you’re actively condemning.
I’m just begging you to try and interact with a work or piece of fiction that isn’t porn or fic or w/e by actually diving deeper than a wiki synopsis. Read or watch a negative review if you want! I don’t care! Just have more than a “skimmed the front page” understanding of something before you criticize it on the basis of being actively harmful.

The Country (TWD/MCU/GA - AU: Original Story)
by SuddenlyCrushed (justAlilfan)
The country is a huge sized community, as big as a good funcional city, with thousands of habbitants, amazingly camouflaged and impossible to detect from the outside, thanks to all the advanced technology used to protect it. While it has an unknown location, on the inside they have grown and developed fairly, having more than the necessary supplies to live great lives, after the apocalypse turned Earth into what it was.
In the country everyone felt like there was never an apocalypse.
However:
It does require a huge effort from huge teams
A lot of teamwork.
There are weekly council meetings. There are studies and strategies.
There are teams surrounding their area.
There are teams investigating other communities.
They have created a big database on possible recruiters.
They find people and study them by detail before going to them for recruitment. They want to make sure every single person they allow in the country will not risk everything they created.
That was until they found a war going on in several communities: Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and the Sanctuary.
What could possibly lead them to act on a war that did not belong to them?
