Shopify e WordPress sono entrambi degli hosting, ovvero dei programmi che permettono alle persone di creare dei siti web altamente personalizzati. 

Ci sono però alcune differenze.

Shopify è un hosting progettato appositamente per la realizzazione di ecommerce. Offre infatti diversi template, che possono essere modificati in modo che rispecchino esattamente le esigenze di chi vuole portare online il proprio business.

Shopify è la scelta di quasi 4 milioni di siti web, e possiede il 10% del mercato globale delle piattaforme ecommerce. 

Cos’è WordPress

Per quanto riguarda WordPress, la faccenda è un po’ più complessa. 

Iniziamo col dire che ci sono due versioni di WordPress, hosted e self-hosted. 

La versione hosted, disponibile su wordpress.com, è uno strumento SaaS (Software As A Service) proprio come Shopify. 

In cambio di una tariffa annuale o mensile, gli utenti possono accedere a diverse funzionalità per creare e gestire un blog, un sito web o un ecommerce.

La versione self-hosted è un software che deve essere scaricato da wordpress.org e installato sul tuo server web, ed è open source, il che vuol dire che il codice che gestisce il software è aperto e disponibile e può essere facilmente modificato da chiunque. 

In pratica, questo vuol dire che un sito creato con la versione self-hosted di WordPress può essere estremamente personalizzato, ma saranno necessarie competenze di programmazione e design per implementare ogni modifica.

Shopify vs WordPress: quale scegliere

Probabilmente non esiste una risposta univoca alla domanda se sia meglio usare Shopify o WordPress per creare un sito web, perché dipende principalmente dalle tue esigenze.

WordPress nasce prevalentemente come piattaforma per il blogging e per la gestione dei contenuti, mentre Shopify è un sistema per realizzare siti web di ecommerce.

Shopify vs WordPress: qual è meglio per la SEO? 

Shopify offre diverse funzionalità di ottimizzazione SEO integrate all’interno del proprio CMS, per facilitare il posizionamento del tuo sito web nella SERP, la pagina dei risultati dei motori di ricerca. 

WordPress.com è adatto ai motori di ricerca grazie alle funzionalità base di blogging, e puoi aggiungere eventuali plugin ed estensioni per ottimizzare ulteriormente il tuo sito.

C’è da dire che ci sono alcune funzioni dell’ottimizzazione SEO integrate in Shopify che rendono la gestione del sito più semplice rispetto a WordPress.

Ad esempio, Shopify include l’ottimizzazione del tempo di caricamento delle pagine, mentre con WordPress è necessario occuparsi personalmente di questo aspetto e tenere sotto controllo i diversi plugin per assicurarsi che non aumentino di troppo il tempo di caricamento del sito. 

Inoltre, tutti i siti Shopify sono automaticamente ottimizzati per mobile.

8. Sicurezza e normative

Anche per quanto riguarda la sicurezza, ci sono un bel po’ di differenze tra Shopify vs WordPress. 

Nel caso di WordPress, la sicurezza è completamente a carico degli utenti, mentre Shopify si occupa automaticamente della sicurezza del sistema, offrendo agli utenti elevati standard di sicurezza.

Ad esempio, anche se la conformità al GDPR è responsabilità di ogni singolo merchant, Shopify offre automaticamente funzionalità conformi al GDPR, mentre con WordPress è necessario installare un plugin esterno. 

Inoltre, se tutti i siti Shopify includono un certificato SSL, e la piattaforma è certificata come conforme agli standard PCI DSS di Livello 1 e ha ottenuto i report SOC 2 e SOC 3, per rendere i siti WordPress più sicuri è necessario installare plugin appositi.

9. Manutenzione

Su Shopify gli aggiornamenti di sistema avvengono in modo automatico, senza causare disagi o interruzioni agli utenti.  Al contrario, con WordPress è necessario aggiornare manualmente il software e i plugin per assicurarti di utilizzare sempre la versione più recente e prevenire eventuali attacchi informatici.

Questo non vuol dire che tu non possa unire il tuo business online e offline anche con WordPress, ma avrai bisogno di un plugin esterno per poter utilizzare questa funzionalità.

Questo perché ci sono tantissime variabili da considerare. 

Infatti, spesso gli utenti sono portati a pensare che WordPress sia una piattaforma praticamente gratuita, quando le cose non stanno proprio così.

Anche se il sistema di gestione dei contenuti di WordPress è gratuito, ci sono diversi costi aggiuntivi (e necessari) da prendere in considerazione:
