ok but a personal favourite (besides of course the legendary Dragons Speech) and one of the underrated (or maybe it isnt. i just havent seen any mentions of it) Flint Speeches in the show methinks is the one he gives to silver during 4x08. that scene when silver is asking flint what he thinks happens after the war and if the result of it wouldn’t be just more horrors. and flint says, “if we are to truly reach a moment where we might be finished with england, cleared away to make room for something else, there most certainly lies a dark moment between here and there. a moment of terror where everything appears to be without hope. i know this. but i cannot believe that that is all there is. i cannot believe we are so poorly made as that, incapable of surviving in the state to which we are born, grown so used to the yoke that there can be no progress without it”

You knock twice on the door.

"Come in."

Quietly, you turn the knob and try to swallow back your tears as you enter the principal's office.

Your boss waves for you to sit in front of him, not looking away from his monitor. No doubt he's reading one of several emails sent to him about your incident. You take your seat and it's then that he turns to you.

"So," he says, leaning back and pushing his glasses to rest atop his head, "what exactly happened?"

You clench your hands in your lap and stare at your knees. "I said some things I shouldn't say to a student."

"Said? I heard it was quite a bit louder than that." His voice isn't as angry as you expected, but you're still unable to let go of the fear trapped in your throat.

"Y-yeah, true, sorry. I shouted at the student."

"What made you do that?"

"They brought up... him."

He's quiet for a moment, already aware of who you're referring to. A few more seconds pass, then he stands, walks around the desk, and sits in front of where you're hanging your head. He lifts your chin, and you know it's to force you to meet his eyes.

"It's still hard, right?"

You nod, unable to get any more words out. He lets go of your chin and pats your head. "I'm sorry. It'll get easier."

"When? When will it get easier?"

He glances at a photo framed on his wall and his deceased spouse smiles back at him knowingly.

"In time." His eyes fall back to you and he smiles. "In time."

head empty just thinking about bryde and how ronan subconsciously dreamed bryde up to give himself a purpose, and how bryde was supposed to give ronan all the answers and know everything. but ronan doesn't know everything about dreaming, so how could bryde ever know everything? their whole little wild goose chase to fix the ley lines really is one, because their party are all just stumbling around the dreamer side of the world and pulling at strings.

and if bryde was made to serve as the all-knowing mentor that ronan never got (that should have been niall, but niall died too soon for ronan to ever get that) but the entirety of the dreamer trilogy is about how dreams become more than dreams and are their own people, then what must have been going through his head every time ronan and hennessy turned to him looking for advice he could probably just barely give? when bryde took that sweetmetal and woke up when the dreamed world slept, was that one of the first times he was actually selfish? the first time he was more than ronan's mentor?
