So about this new title.....

"Buck, Bothered, & Bewildered", the 100th episode of 911. Obviously this will be about Buck, as evident from the basketball pic & the convo with him and Maddie. But why this name?? Well, there is a song called "Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered" from a 1940 Broadway production of Pal Joey. The song presents a vivid portrait of the performer feeling troubled, enchanted, and confounded by the turbulence of new love, & all the confusing & complex emotions that it can bring. What makes it all the more interesting is that the original was sung from a woman's perspective, meaning that this song that was used in reference to the upcoming episode about Buck is a love song to a man. I read through the lyrics & y'all.....

Fun fact, other iterations have this performed as a duet, but one particular feature was in both the 2004 play and the 2006 movie, The History Boys. The performing character Posner, is a young, love-struck Jewish gay boy singing in reference to his gay crush on another boy.

hellllo i am back on my Eddie takes Buck to a country concert bullshit. This is part of the scene that inspired the fic :)

“This one wasn’t in our original set list, but I think I saw an old friend in the crowd who used to listen to me play this song over and over again when Willie Nelson released his cover in 2006,” Matty said into the mic. “This is ‘Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other. You may have heard it.” Buck turned to look at Eddie so quickly that his neck cracked. Eddie looked raw, like he wasn’t sure how to process what was happening.  “I think he saw me,” Eddie said with a huffed out laugh as the band started to play.  “I think you’re right,” Buck agreed as Matty started singing.  “Well, there's many a strange impulse out on the plains of West Texas/ There's many a young boy who feels things he can't comprehend/ And a small town don't like it when somebody falls between sexes/ No, a small town don't like it when a cowboy has feelings for men,” Matty’s sang. Buck felt like he could feel it in his heart, but that wasn’t what he noticed. No, what he noticed were the lyrics.  Because Buck had been 90% sure that this was a queer country band before they started on this song, but now he was 100% sure. And the way Eddie had looked when he saw Matty, like he was seeing a ghost, it kind of made Buck wonder if maybe his best friend wasn’t as straight as he’d thought.

Nobody asked for it but I did it anyway

Have a nice post of me talking about every lyric in the song unsweetened lemonade and why it fits Icarus Morningstar. This was 100% inspirated by sage’s 18000+ word post analyzing the sherb playlist.

Since this is about a single song it lucky is only 952 words long.

What a lovely way to simply appear on tumblr again.

Now I’m gonna stop yapping.

The fact that one of Icarus’s eyes isn’t Normal. It’s constantly bleeding and thinking too much about specific things caused it to hurt.

“And my tongue is sharp with spite”

Icarus and manipulation. Their tongue being sharp with spite is cause they will say anything to get more people on their side. Both during the corruption arc and mid to end season 3.

“Attention whore with too much pride”

They want to believe what’s being told to them. By fable or in season 1 enderian. They wouldn’t listen to anyone that tried to tell them otherwise. Rea,Athena,Centross. Even the things.

“There's no one I wouldn't fight”

End season 3 and corruption arc. Icarus would fight anyone for the approval and attention of the gods.

“I don't like confrontation but”

He doesn’t want to have to kill people. But he does.

“I'm staring at the sun”

Them screaming at the sky in season one and Them screaming at the sky at quixis. Screaming at something that won’t talk back. That seems to only keep hurting them. (This is the last season 1 to season 3 comparison I swear)

They need to stop quixis. No matter what.

Killing Hailey. They needed to do it publicly. So that everyone could see.

Prison duo after the cave. Icarus doing whatever they can to get centross back. Even if it’s a path straight down to hell.

The glitching in Icarus’s chest after the cave. It was gonna kill them and that was certain by the end of the finale.

Icarus would do anything for some sense of love. Specifically parental love. Obviously from fable. But also from enderian in the end reset. That’s their aunt. They don’t remember it. But it’s the only ‘real’ family Icarus knows.

They would. Yea I have no real addiction to this lyric. Icarus literally almost died in the cave when fable tried to rip the glitching from their body. And yet they were grateful for it. They’d sell their live for their dad.

Young Icarus being like their dad. Hell. Icarus without the eye being very able to kill.

“Till you sweeten up the bowl”

The eye. The only reason Icarus didn’t kill more people. They wasn’t able to cause they weren’t 100% themselves. The piece of hardcore sherb keeping Icarus at bay.

“And I'm sitting in the bathroom”

Icarus being isolated. Far away from everyone.

“I'm crying citrus tears”

The wack. The reason they are isolated. They don’t want it to hurt others.

“Everything I used to love decayed over the years”

isla, momboo, centross. Icarus loved them. And had to loose them.

They never had good reasons for the things they’re doing. And the things point that out. Quixis points it out. And what does Icarus do. They ignore it. They “sell their pride instead” cause if they admit they’re wrong they have to admit that all the bad they’ve done wasn’t for something good.

It’s easier to list to fable. To believe that they are nothing more than whatever he tells them to be.

fable gives them praise so they run away with him. Even though fable is almost never actually at the house. There is no tension cause they don’t spend enough time in the same space to have any.

Icarus and Isla. The ‘good child’ and the ‘perfect wife’

Icarus was supposed to die as a kid. Be dragged to the world port and done. However that didn’t happen. They kept living.

By the time Icarus actually ‘dies’ they’re easily an adult. But before then Icarus is stuck in the same loop. Fall, forget, rescue fable, repeat.

Icarus talking about fable. In the beginning he was the enemy. He was the bad guy. Then by season 2 he wasn’t anymore he was their dad.

Fable might be Icarus’s dad. But he never really makes any attempt to be a dad unless it benefits him and his needs. He’ll never own Icarus’s heart. Cause he’ll never try to.

Icarus does love fable though. He’s their dad. He gives them praise he believes in them. Or at least that’s what Icarus believes.

Icarus thinking he can go to malici and just talk them into joining their side. His dads side. Without his dads help so that they can proof he’s worth it.

Fable being an asshole dad directly affecting Icarus.

Icarus ends up as a carbon copy of fable.

All the deaths being seen as okay cause they’re all gonna come back. They are gonna get them all back.

Fable ended up too confident in themselves. Blabbing on and revealing everything in front of Icarus lead him to his death.

“SO YOU AND EDDIE ARE GETTING A DIVORCE BECAUSE HE WAS COMING HOME LATE?”

“i’m sure that there was a good reason for the fact that he was coming home late. there has to be.”buck tried to reason with the girl, and she shook her head slightly as she fixed the glasses that were on top of her head, “you two could’ve worked that out!”

“it was more than that buck.”she whispered, trying everything she could not to cry, “there was more than just that buck, we haven’t been on the same page for years.”

“y/n, you and eddie are the only thing that makes sense in my life. if the two of you break up, nothing in this world makes sense.”buck stressed, and y/n stood in front of him, with her hands shaking.

“buck the only reason i’m in LA is to sign the divorce papers. our marriage started to fall apart years ago.”she tried to tell him, but buck couldn’t accept it, “it started 10 months after we got married.”

“I WROTE A NEW SONG.”

y/n announced as she sat down with her producer brynn, who gave the girl a look as the h/c girl sat on the floor of the studio,  “i was looking at the old wedding pictures i had up in the apartment last night and started writing.”

“what’s the lyrics?”brynn questioned, before y/n pulled out her phone, and opened up her notes app, grabbing the lyrics.

“i don’t think i lied when i said i wanted that life.”she started, tapping her fingers against the ground, with her wedding band still in plain view, “maybe i was too young to understand what i wanted at all.”

“but baby it was true, with all that i knew, it felt like forever that december two.”she went on, not daring to glance up, knowing her bloodshot eyes would give away everything, “a fairytale start, with us crossing our hearts, we rode off in a car that said “just married.””

she stopped herself after the first verse, before clearing her throat and pushing her beanie down on her head more, “the rest of the lyrics are a bit rough and have to be cleaned up if we’re able to do that today.”

“yeah of course.”brynn nodded, before grabbing out a notebook and a pen, helping the girl fix up the lyrics, before they had quickly moved onto creating a sound, one that reminded the h/c girl of a wedding song.

“i don’t know what i’m supposed to do with my wedding dress now.”y/n’s voice rasped as they took a little break, and brynn looked at the girl with such sadness in her eyes, knowing exactly what the girl was going through.

“if you do anything with this song, either releasing it as a single or even have a music video for it, wear your dress in it.”brynn suggested, and the singer shrugged, picking at the rug of the studio floor, “it’s a gorgeous dress, and you can create better memories with it.”

“i feel bad about wanting out knowing chris is going to get caught in the middle of all of this.”she whispered, feeling tears threatening to spill as she thought about the boy who she adored, “i just couldn’t stay there any longer. i couldn’t continue killing myself over a marriage that was one-sided.”

“and you shouldn’t have to.”brynn reassured the girl, grabbing her hand and giving it a comforting squeeze, “in this instance, you have to put yourself first, and if leaving is the solution, then so be it.”

“chris will forgive you.”brynn told her, causing y/n to look up at her, “i’ve met the kid. he will forgive you.”

after a bit, y/n got up wordlessly and walked into the studio with the notebook, giving it one shot to sing the entire song without crying, which is something she hadn’t been able to do yet. once she got through the first part of the song, she looked up at brynn who gave her a reassuring smile.

“long distance text, make-up-for-time sex, tired of asking when i’ll see you next.”she sang, with flashes of memories from when she would constantly text eddie, asking when she would be able to see him next, the endless booked flights that he constantly missed to go and see her, “i’m too mad to fight, so i’ll stare and cry at the picture of you, and me wearing white.”

“just married.”

“but i wasn’t made for fixing a plate, and keeping our problems buried.”she went on, feeling her heart shatter into a million pieces, just like a plate would after it had been dropped onto the ground, “no i wasn’t strong enough to hold on, with all of the weight i carried.”

“yeah it was love, then it was just married.”

flashes of her wedding went through her mind, with the vivid taste of veuve they had drank as their celebratory drink on her taste buds. their vows ringing through her mind, always promising to stick by each other throughout everything.

everything little memory of the past five years tainted from her soon to be ex husband, and every little thing they had done together.

“but dammit i wish i wasn’t this ready, to undo i do.”she paused, swallowing hard, knowing she had one more verse left before she was finished with the song, “but i wasn’t made for fixing a plate, and getting divorced sounds scary.”

“but i’m just not strong enough to hold on, with all of the weight that i carried.”she admitted, playing with the strings of her hoodie, knowing she was at the finish line, “yeah it was love, it really was.”

I can't stop thinking about Watch the Party Die, how it ties into Kendrick's upcoming Superbowl performance and how this is about to be a major moment for hip hop as a genre. Watch the Party Die is a warning for what's ahead; people consider this another diss, or the end credits for the beef between him and Drake (and I get where this is coming from) but this is bigger than that. This is a diss towards the whole industry, from the rappers whose hearts are not in the music (making a quick buck), who abuse/oversexualise women and preach drug use/materialism and negatively influence their young audiences, to the influencers like Akademics that dickride these artists for favours and clout.

I think it was a strategic choice to have this song drop AFTER Kendrick's Superbowl performance. I think we all were expecting Kendrick to come out blasting Not Like Us (not saying it's not gonna happen), and dancing on Drake's grave for the second time, but this kind of shook up our perceptions of it. He's done beefing with Drake. He's clipped off the rotted branch that's contaminating hip hop. It's time for him to nurture and heal the art form that he loves so dearly. This is not going to be your average performance.

Take what I've said with a grain of salt; I genuinely think that this is something that Kendrick is going to have to be very careful with. This is still the Superbowl, and he was chosen by Jay Z, aka the face of black capitalism. He can't exactly come out the gate swinging with this, but he has a golden opportunity to make a supreme impact. I don't think this is an opportunity that he's going to play around with.

This brings me back to that one lyric from Like That (the song that kicked this shit off); "It's up, lost too many soldiers not to play it safe". It's almost like Kendrick's intentions were made clear from the beginning of this beef; with wisdom from artists he enjoys like Lecrae, and Tupac, his friends who passed away, and his own healing journey, this makes me think this entire beef was Kendrick killing the rot that has infected hip hop. He's started with Drake, and now he's letting the industry know that its time is limited.

So no, Watch the Party Die is not the end credit scene of his beef with Drake. This is the opening sequence to the second act.

so annoying go through the recent posts on the olivia rodrigo tag and see it flooded with swifties critising her every move. i hate how olivia is seen as the villian in their so called "feud" when taylor (or her team) is the one who demanded 50% writing credits for deja vu despite not being anywhere near the writers room bc it maybe sounded similiar to one of her songs and olivia listened to t swift as a kid. this is a multi-millionaire who saw the success of a young, upcoming filipino artist and thought to herself, "how can i profit off this?" if this was taken to a court of law, i am certain olivia would not have had to pay that much (if she had to pay anything at all) but bc she didn't know the industry, now 50% of her profits on deja vu are directly lining swift's pockets. taylor absolutely took advantage of olivia's inexperience for a quick buck. it's just greed, plain and simple.

okay, so, i honestly don't know enough about the credits for deja vu since everyone says different things about how it went about with jack antonoff saying he didn't know anything about it (but he just comes off as so sleazy to me so i take everything he says with a pinch of salt) but that being said i feel like taylor, st vincent and antonoff should've declined such a large potion of the profits

now on to sw*fties hating on her: i have this conspiracy theory that the only reason they hate her as much as they do is because olivia's the only artist who actually has a shot at matching taylor's level of fame, i mean, she's only twenty with two albums and selling out large stadiums. that's the reason the swifties adore artists like sabrina carpenter (cringy asf lyrics - calling herself a little girl and then asking to put something big in her 'pusita'??? - on songs that only seem to be hits on tiktok) and gracie abrams (zionist nepobaby who's made peod-y remarks about finn wolfhard) who will never be able to match taylor's fame

at the end of the day i think it's become kinda obvious that olivia isn't on good terms with taylor anymore (which is fine idk why people make such a big deal about it) and distance herself from her rabid fanbase but what i do find funny is that the moment taylor is treated the way she treats other people (writing slanderous songs about them and then being coy when asked about it) they can't stand it

2023 : remembrances continue to pour in for the Edmund Fitzgerald and Gordon Lightfoot.

‘The ship sank all over again’: Families of victims in wreck recall Gordon Lightfoot

Darren Muljo was in elementary school when his teacher asked the students in his class to pick a song they wanted to learn to play.

Muljo, now 52, chose the 1976 song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by legendary Canadian folk musician Gordon Lightfoot.

Muljo’s mother, Cheryl Rozman, first introduced him to the six-minute-long folk ballad, which chronicles the demise of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The ship sank in Lake Superior near Whitefish Point, Mich., during a storm on Nov. 10, 1975. All 29 crewmen on board died.

One of those men was Muljo’s grandfather, Ransom Cundy, a watchman on the ship.

At the time, Muljo was too young to fully understand the significance of the song for the families. But in the years since, it has cemented a bond between them that has lasted decades.

“Gordon Lightfoot’s imprint on the healing process for the families cannot be (overstated), especially when he made it a point to develop a personal connection with many of them,” Muljo said in a phone interview from Melbourne, Fla.

As word got out of Lightfoot’s death Monday, relatives of the ship’s crew began reaching out by phone and social media to share stories of the singer-songwriter, whom many referred to as an honorary family member.

“When I first heard the news, it went through me like the ship sank all over again,” Deborah Champeau said by phone from Nashotah, Wis.

“Gordon is a part of our family. I really respected what he stood for and that he took the time and the effort to spend time with us.”

Champeau was 17 when her father died. Oliver (Buck) Champeau was a third assistant engineer on the Great Lakes ore freighter.

Lightfoot sent a letter to Deborah Champeau offering his sympathies and explained that he wrote the song to shed light on the lack of safety measures in place for vessels at that time and the consequences that can come from that.

“It was very hard in the beginning to listen to the words,” said Champeau, 65.

“Through the years I have embraced it, and I’m glad he did write it and took the time to bring that awareness.”

Lightfoot would often read newspapers and watch newscasts, which provided fodder for his deeply autobiographical storytelling.

He was inspired to write “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” after reading a Newsweek article.

Though some elements of the song deviated from the disaster, Lightfoot was adamant in writing lyrics as accurate as could be.

It was also important to him to speak with surviving family members.

Muljo’s mother was initially upset when she first caught wind about the song. This changed after she listened to it and came to understand the respect and honour in which Lightfoot portrayed the men and that perilous night, said Muljo.

Lightfoot would go on to form a personal connection with the families that resulted in a number of visits over the last half-century and unlimited access to backstage passes at his concerts.

Pam Johnson, 71, met Lightfoot about 10 times.

Johnson reached out to the singer shortly after the song came out. She was living in Germany when her mom called to say Lightfoot had written a song about the wreck. Her father, Robert Rafferty, was a cook on the ship.

Johnson was at a club with her husband when she first heard the track.

“It was emotional for me,” she said. “It’s a privilege and an honour for a man of his talent to speak of my dad. I’ve always been proud of that.”

In 2015, Lightfoot joined families at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point for the 40th anniversary of the shipwreck.

Corey Adkins, content director for the museum, recalled Lightfoot arriving a day early to enjoy some quiet time with the families.

The museum is home to the ship’s 90-kilogram bronze bell, which was recovered in 1995. Lightfoot’s song can be heard as visitors take in the exhibit.

Adkins said the song opened the door for other stories to be told.

“That song did a lot for the maritime community, as far as shipwrecks and remembering people who perished on shipwrecks go.”

Champeau is preparing for a more sombre anniversary at Whitefish Point this year but said the legend lives on — referencing the first line of the song that immortalized the crew.

“Boy, there’s a hell of a concert going on up in heaven. The men are waiting to embrace him.”
