Will they pour it on her? It didn't make any impression on her. They didn't have, her to take back. They didn't have any more.

If Cosmere Characters Had Real-World Jobs (But Not The Obvious Ones)

In this list, I wanted to try to give Cosmere characters jobs in our world while avoiding the jobs that would be the most obvious picks--like, for example, the real world equivalent of whatever their canon job is.

1. Kaladin: Professional Football Player

It's a dangerous job that Kaladin's dad would scoff at, but the other kids in town think it's really cool and also the recruiters are coming through town and, I mean, he's really good at football.

2. Lirin: Public Defender

If we avoid the obvious job (doctor), then Lirin still needs a job where he is doing good, but it's pretty thankless and the general public are suspicious and think he might actually be evil somehow. So I figure: public defender. He's highly educated, helping people who need it, and just getting nothing but grief as a result. Worst of all, his smart son wants to be a FOOTBALL player!

3. Marsh: Masseuse

I feel like people who are good at hemalurgy know about the body and its pressure points and things like that. And frankly, "acupuncturist" felt too on the nose.

4. Shallan: Park Ranger

Shallan HATES to be confined, so no way she's going into an office job. Plus, she likes nature and animals, but I'm trying to avoid the more obvious jobs (like botanist or ecologist). It's just too bad that Shallan is SO bad at staring a campfire, though.

5. Navani: Wedding Planner

Navani is VERY good at managing people and events, as seen when she had to manage everything while Gavilar was off plotting. She's also very organized and literally invented wristwatches. So I think she's be very good at this job.

6. Elend: Grad Student

This one may be too obvious, but I figure something like "politician" or "philosopher" are more obvious. But to me, Elend has major grad student energy.

7. Nale: Insurance Adjuster

Nale is a cop, of course, through and through. But if he wasn't a cop, then he'd need some other job where he uses the rules to screw people over. So I see him as, like, an evil insurance guy who's denying people medical coverage because the company wants him to.

8. Blackthorn-Era Dalinar: Debt Collector

If flashback Dalinar couldn't make a living mowing people down in battle and had to find a less obvious job, then I could see him being the guy to hunt down people and demand money they don't have. He doesn't really care about the money. He just likes the hunt.

9. Adolin: eSports Player

It's a job where you can head-to-head battle people and your dad is vaguely puzzled and thinks you should be doing something more important with your life.

10. Lightsong: Customer Service Agent

In canon, Lightsong's job is to face down a huge line of people and tell them "no" in response to them asking for something they want. So, I mean, I feel like that's equivalent to one of those shitty customer service jobs where you're not really allowed to help people (until, of course, Lightsong goes rogue and does start helping people, but that's another story...)

11. Stormfather: Bus Driver

He has his route, and he's not deviating from it. And if you miss the bus, he's not stopping. He's not going back. You can try to run, but you will not catch up to him.

12. Tress: Mechanic

As a Sprouter, Tress had to figure out how each of the spores worked and how to use them. I just feel like she'd be good at diagnosing issues in machinery and then fixing them.

13. Steris: Programmer

She's precise, she's smart, she likes rules. I think coding would suit her.

14. Yumi: Waitress

She could stack the plates SO high.

15. Marasi: Investigative Reporter

Which, honestly, is what I wish she had been rather than being a cop like in canon. I think it would suit her! She'd get to research, investigate, find the truth...

16. Kelsier: Motivational Speaker

He tells you about the power of smiling no matter what, so that you are never defeated. He tells you to carry something small, some memento or photo, to help you find your motivation. None of the recontres you had with Vinny Hong in the entirety of your life was normal.

The first time you encountered him was when you accidentally bumped into him in a vulnerable state while walking home under a light rain shower after a tiring day volunteering at the hospital your parents were working in. The light pouring rain hit your umbrella with soft thuds as you were finding your way through the alley you accidentally passed by after taking an alternative route, but getting a little lost in the process.

You shuddered when you heard a groan. You immediately looked around and kept your guard up in case it was a kidnapper. But no, it sounded like one of pain. Stopping your tracks and pulling over your feet, you looked around the alley. Your eyes expectantly scanned until your eyes found the source of the grumbling noise. There he was, slumped against the wall.

I knew it. you thought.

It was a man. How cliché. His head was bowed down so he couldn't see you.

Let me guess, a high school boy was mobbed and injured somewhere and now is left to die in a dark alley to be found lifeless once the sun rises?

You scoffed. If only you had all the time in the world to be a delinquent, that will most likely be where you're meant for. These high school boys are wasting their lives when they unknowingly have the time to choose to be a better person. You discreetly envied how these kinds of people can still choose how they'll live their lives—regardless of presence of sense for separating actions between good and bad.

And so you walked past the alley.

Your steps slowed down as the man groaned again, this time followed by a rustle. A slight pang of guilt forming in the pit of your stomach. Damn it, this wasn't–

You reluctantly looked back to where the man sat. You've always sworn your life you wouldn't meddle in anything that wasn't your business. But for some reason, the guilt of having the ability to help but refusing to, drowned your fixed principle.

Just as you were having an inner banter with yourself, your feet made the decision for you instead and took you to him. You pushed the button on your umbrella to automatically close it, pointing the sharp end to the stranger. You weren't even sure if he's still alive because he suddenly quieted down after that last groan. Only the light from the nearest post gave you an unclear sight of the man and the fluff of his fiery red hair.

One of his hands fell limp on the floor while the other was covering his wound. It seemed like he's been in the same spot for minutes yet the distinct bright colour of fresh blood told you the injury happened not very a while ago. You weren't sure of how to approach him properly, so you lightly kicked his leg once, but he didn't respond. So you kicked him for the second time, this time, harder. Finally, he responded by quietly groaning in pain once again.

“Who… the hell… are you…?” He weakly questioned as looked up to squint and take in your face, but your figure was against the light from the lamp post, so your silhouette was the only thing he's capable of registering. Even when in pain, his voice still sounded atrocious. Like he's someone used to speaking to people harshly. Luckily, you weren't intimidated for a single bit. It'll take a lot more than harsh tones to drive you away. You've been there.

You fumbled inside your tote bag to search for your phone, “Who are you to ask?” When you got ahold of your phone, you turned the flashlight on and you got a clearer view of the blood oozing out of this stranger's side, staining his hand in the process. It looked like a stab wound, judging from the volume of the blood oozing out from the wound.

“As expected.” You raised your hand to point the sharp end of your umbrella to him once again. “I will help you. But if you attempt to do anything funny, I'll stab you on your other side, too.”

Your first option as was to call immediate professional help. As you tried to dial the hospital hotline to call an ambulance, your phone kept indicating there was no service. The signal's jammed. You almost threw your phone to the nearest wall out of frustration as you hit the side of it with your palm. You side-eyed the man behind you.

Shit. Now what? This kind of stab wound is fatal, especially because he already lost plenty of blood beforehand. It wouldn't bleed that much if the penetration wasn't deep. It might have even hit a vital spot. Calling for help now will be difficult because of this deserted alley and the continuous pour of the rain didn't help either, plus, your phone has no service.

“I don't need… your help!” he glared at your silhouette and cursed himself as he shut his eyes tightly while attempting to sit upright, enduring the excruciating pain on his side.

“You're quite obnoxious for a dying man.” You looked around to search for more resources. This is a closed alley. If you leave him here for another minute to find help, he might completely lose his consciousness, he was already limp in the first place. You were left with no choice. Your hand hesitantly reached to fumble around your bag once again until you got an OS, gauze pads and sterilized medical stitching needles.

Your mother would be furious if ever she finds out you stitched a stranger's wounds. You can only imagine her yelling, "Patients are not your playthings and the Medical field is not your playground! Who are you to perform Medical procedures? You're not even a Doctor yet!" Yeah, for sure Dra. Jo wouldn't be so pleased to find out her daughter's attempt to fix someone up. You kneeled and looked at the stranger. You needed to gain his trust as professionally as possible.

“I won't ask your name since you're clearly hard to talk to. I'm [Y/N]. I'm no Guardian angel of yours. I do light voluntary work in hospitals and I have current trainings on how to attend to emergency patients. But I'm still a high school student so I'm not yet licensed. Anyway, going to a hospital will always be the safest option, but I have knowledge about stitching wounds, at least. I'm going to temporarily stitch you up so you don't lose more blood, then we'll get you to a hospital once I find phone service.”

You surveyed his overall state, he looked very pale, although it's easy to tell that he's naturally pale, by losing a lot of blood, he's getting even paler each passing second. You were running out of time.

“Do you consent to this?” You asked him calmly through your glasses.

He breathed out heavily. You knew he was wary and reluctant. Which is understandable. But if it's not you, who else will do it? You heaved a sympathetic sigh. As you unemotionally tell him about the circumstances of his skepticality, that you well acknowledge.

“Hey, you might have a family member waiting for you at home. They would be devastated to just hear from the news that you were found dispatched and lifeless out here in the morning.” you looked around, left and right. Right now, you're the best chance he has if he wants to live. “I won't force your consent out. I haven't touched you anywhere yet and I wouldn't if you don't want me to, so I can just leave you here without me being a potential suspect of your murder. But you should probably think about the ones that didn't know their last sight of you alive was the last they'll get, ever.”

He looks at you for a few seconds while he grits his teeth, before he slowly, lightly nods. Shutting his eyes and removing his hand from covering the wound, implying that he had put his trust in you.

You checked his carotid pulse first. Just as you thought. Erratic and weakened. And then looked over to watch the shallow rise and fall of his shoulders. Shallow breathing. He definitely lost a high volume of blood already. You hastily started disinfecting everything—your hands, the tools, even the gloves. You checked his expression. You gave him a heads-up before lifting the side of his shirt to attend to the wound properly. You began working up and stitching the wound on his right side. You looked at his face once again that's being covered by the shade of the unfinished constructions caging the alley, while going through your first stitch.

“I'm sorry, this is the only option, for now. I'll find more professional help after this.”

He had no more energy left to open his mouth and reply. He grunts in pain while you were busy ushing the needle through-and-through. You asked him to bite down on a cloth while enduring the pain, since you didn't have anesthesia and he can feel every poke of the needle on his skin. You stitched him with precision with your skilled hands. Your hands were painted crimson red during the process.

This wouldn't be your first time stitching. You've done this a couple of times, but only to a simulator. You pulled yourself together as you kept in mind that a person's life is in your hands this time.

While you were focusing on the stitches, all the stranger can muster are croaky groans, as the pain of the wound and the stitches stung, so you tried to do it faster. When you were done, while wiping your blood-stained hands, you noticed how his chest was rising and falling rapidly as he was wincing in pain. He tried to look up at you again, but his sight of you was blurry.

“Don't worry, that'll be removed at once when you're taken to the hospital. What I did is only first aid, and you already lost a lot of blood so we still need to get you to the hospital as soon as possible.”

You pushed your knees to stand up and find phone signal, but before you can, his hand rose and reached for yours.

“No.” He clutched your hand to stop you. His hand was rough—and also large. You have large hands for a female, but his hand almost completely enveloped yours.

The side of your lips shifted downward while looking down at him. “When I said trust me, I only meant temporarily so I can temporarily close your wound. I didn't mean with all your life."

“Just no hospital.”

“You must really want to die.”

He gripped your hand tightly from the severe pain he's enduring. You know how much pain he's going through right now and he didn't mean to do so, so you let him squeeze your hand.

“I would rather die, than pay a hospital bill.” he weakly held on to you, falling completely unconscious. His head fell on your lap. You furrowed your brows and put his head into a more comfortable position.

Oh, so he was serious on dying?

You coming to his rescue definitely doesn't just end with a few stitches.

Every time a new Brandon Sanderson book is released everyone updates their suggested reading order but all you need is the patience to be uninformed and enjoy the book!

But depending on your preference the best story to start with will be different.

If you want a crash course on the basics of The Cosmere's magic physics (Aka Investiture) so you can hypothesize on how other magic works I suggest the short story "The Emperor's Soul" as a starting point, it gives a solid overview of Realmic theory and covers Identity (a rather difficult idea to communicate) very effectively. (this is the start of the PhD route)

If you want something that's more like a traditional fairy tale as an intro I suggest Tress Of the Emerald Sea, which doesn't require a PhD in the shattering to understand. (though if you're going the PhD route I suggest reading this one later because if you're questioning the magic it's a far more confusing one)

Warbreaker is a good middle ground, if you're going the PhD route I suggest this second (it covers Intention which "The Emperor's Soul" doesn't), It's not a bad starting place either, it was my first book in The Cosmere and it's up for free on The Sand-Man's website. It's also all-around an excellent book.

I'm going to be (a tad) controversial and say I enjoy Elantris, it's certainly not Brando-Sando's best work but it was his first, and it's not a bad book to start with! just keep in mind that many of the issues in the book are things he improves on in later books.

Mistborn is two (soon to be 3) series, we distinguish them by 'Era' and they should be read in order if you want to make sense of what's going on.

Mistborn Era 1 (3 books) is also an excellent place to start, it's a YA-style series so you follow a teenager in a Post-(more like perpetual)-Apocalypse, but it's also an Epic high fantasy so if you like those and don't mind romance It's a good one.

"Mistborn Secret History": read this after Mistborn Era 1 if you're going the PHD route read anytime before The Lost Metal (Era 2 Book 4) for everyone else. (PhD track: if you want the most out of it I suggest also reading White Sand first)

Mistborn Era 2 (4 books) is a high fantasy Western set in the same world much later in time, 10/10 no notes, it's excellent.

The Stormlight Archive, TheBigOne™ It is planned to be a 10-book series with accompanying Novellas. I suggest reading in chronological order including the short stories, published so far that would be:

Words of Radiance

"Edgedancer" (novella)

Oathbringer

"Dawnshard" (novella)

Rhythm of War

Start with this series if you thirst for sprawling high-fantasy novels with page counts that would make grown men weep (the Audiobook for RoW was like 48 hours long)

The entirety of Arcanum Unbounded is not required reading, (unless you're on the PhD track) but it contains both "The Emperor's Soul" and "Edgedancer", you should probably read Elantris, Mistborn Era 1, Alloy Of Law (MB Era 2 Book 1), and Stormlight (up to Words of Radiance). If you enjoy Graphic Novels and dislike spoilers/rereading stuff when you haven't finished it yet I suggest skipping the White Sand excerpt.

White Sand is also not a terrible intro, it covers a theme in B-Sandy's work that isn't directly related to the cosmere but will give you a good insight into whether you'll like his work or not: the idea that skill is developed, not just inherent. if you're like me and dislike graphic novels GraphicAudio™ (actually a company not a joke) Has an Audio rendition that has some narrative differences from the Graphic novels (iirc at least one character is a different gender) But the Graphic novels also have a random boombox on a planet with no electricity so either should be fine.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is in a similar situation to Tress of The Emerald Sea except instead of a classic European Folktale Vibe it's got a Western Interpretation of Anime Vibe, ofc it's high fantasy like all Sandon Branderson's work so it's world is inspired by Japanese culture rather than just being Japanese.

The Sunlit Man read Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell (Arcanum Unbounded), and at least Oathbringer (Stormlight Archive 3) before this one, unless you like being thrown into the deep end, Mistborn Era 1 & 2 would also help.

There are other routes than Ph.D., there's also the Galactic Politics route, The Secret Society route, The Worldhopper Watcher route, The Ancient History route (Aka The Shattering route) ect

poor boy was so stressed when yumi got her period with only him around.

confused but still very helpful.

the first time it happened, he had to run around the dorm looking for pads. safe to say it was s 0/10 experience.

one of the few members who would go to the store and buy her pads.

yumi was surprised when he arrived with the correct ones and even bought tampons because he didn't know if she used them.

she needs a heating pad? already on it. pain killers? He's on his way. Is having a craving? He's already ordering the take out.

he just wants her to feel as comfortable as she can.

now, when her mood swings are all over the place, home boy is out.

not because he doesn't want to be there for her, but because he knows when to keep his distance when she's moody.

but every now and then he will pop up and ask if she's doing okay and won't take it to heart if she doesn't respond in a good way because he knows she doesn't mean it.-

if she stains her pants in public he will not tell her, he will just tie his sweater or hoodie around her waist and walk closely behind her just in case it bleeds through that too.

he does what she tells him to do because he wants her to be in a good mood. ( he is also low-key scared of her ).

while promoting 'Let Me In', yumi was feeling horrible and hee microwaved some water and asked the staff for a towel for him to soak it in and gave it to her to put on her belly :(

doesn't know much but has been learning along the way and has been very helpful.

knows a lot more than one would think, but is still a bit on edge because he's scared of saying or doing something wrong.

he was way more distant the first few periods she got with them but now he's beginning to keep less distance from her as he has learned that she's not going to be moody every single minute of the day.

he leaves her some of her favorite snacks and fruits on her bed every morning on her pillow with a note that reads 'jay's peace offering' ( that makes yumi feel a bit better ).

tries very hard to make her laugh and she does laugh, not because the joke was funny, but because she was very touched at how much he cared to see her happy and wanted him to feel like he did a good job. ( which he totally did )

mostly texts her if she need anything to avoid making her irritated.

will only buy her pads if it's a life or death situation.

one time he told her no and it turned into a serious fight that lasted about two days.

she forgave him after her period ended because she realized how stupid the fight was.

he now carries a small bag with pads when it's that time of the month, just in case something ever happens.

cooks for her and even brings it to her bed so she doesn't have to go out of her way to eat.

will not hesitate to give her his sweater, hoodie, etc. to cover herself if she stains her pants in public.

for not having that much experience with this, he is plenty helpful.

whenever yumi gets her period, it's like a switch is turned on and from being very annoying and playful towards her he turns so soft and sweet. he's literally s sweetheart to her.

this one time they were watching something on his bed and she bled through her pants and stained the bed and she almost died of embarrassment since it was HIS sheets.

she wouldn't have been so embarrassed if it wasn't because it was his bed and his sheets.

his initial thought was to tease her about it but when he saw how embarrassed she looked he decided to take the sweet route.

"it's okay you don't have to be embarrassed, I've heard this happens a lot."

one of the only members who don't flee away when she has her mood swings.

he keeps his distance but doesn't leave her alone as he knows that when she's on her period all the emotions she feels get overwhelming for her.

he actually learned how to clean the stain by watching her and he now believes he's completely prepared for when she gets her period.

gives her his hoodie if she ever stains her pants out in public.

constantly makes sure she isn't in pain and if she is he always has pain killers at hand to give to her.

he has a packet of nuts and dried fruits in his bag as he read that you're supposed to eat foods heavy in iron on your period.

he also make sure she's been eating and sleeping well because he doesn't want anything to happen to her.

because he knows she doesn't do either well on the daily.

he doesn't keep pads with him but he does keep a small heating pad that can be used on the go because he knows how bothersome cramps are.

will not deal with her mood swings at all.

he loves the girl to death but she gets unbearable and he wants to avoid the conflict.

since he maintaines his distance from her, he sends her a shit ton of memes and funny tiktoks to cheer her up.

will also try and help her with whatever he can with the distance needed.

he's very scared of an irritated yumi, he doesn't want to be on the spot whenever she gets mad.

let's her curl up next to him and cuddle with him just because he knows she's not feeling well.

he hugs her a lot on those days as he thinks hugs can numb the pain. ( bless his heart 🥺 ).

yumi stained her pants and they're out in public? He will discreetly tell her about it and offer his jacket or ask her if she wants him to walk behind her to cover the stain.

if she asks for him to buy pads he will not go but will ask his manager to go for him.

he's very helpful and always makes sure she's okay.

oh this boy, so sweet yet doesn't really know how to help.

called his sister when he was alone with her and she stained her pants/sheets and was almost crying out of pain because he had no clue on what to do.

his sister calmly explained to him that it was normal for a girl to cry of pain when they're on their periods and that he should ask if she needed help.

after that incident he started researching on the topic and began to feel more confident when it came to helping her with her period.

"how are you girls even alive after losing SIXTEEN TABLESPOONS of blood on their period?!" "we're superhumans, I guess." "I have no doubt about that."

is by her side 24/7 to make sure she's okay and nothing has happened.

asks if she's okay every 5 minutes.

hates it when she gets ticked off by him and screams at him because he doesn't like it when she's mad at him :(.

but whenever she's mad at the other members, he takes her side to make sure he's not targeted next.

he tried tracking her period but forgot to update the app and decided he would just try and memorize when her period starts and ends to have a good idea of when it will start again.

he doesn't have a small bag with pads but he does carry some around when she ask him too, just in case she forgets to pack some herself.

another one who won't go and buy her pads because he finds it scary, have you seen how many types of pads there are?!

went once and confused the pads with adult pampers. yumi could only laugh at this incident and he had to go back and buy the real ones.

he isn't going through that stress again and instead asks his manager to go and buy them for him, like sunghoon.

at least once a week sunoo will have a self care night with her. they do face masks their extensive skincare routine and watch movies while gossiping about who knows what.

if she stained her pants in public, he'll just give her his hoodie while trying to make it seem not so obvious.

ngl he was very confused at first about it all and is still somewhat confused now.

he wasn't panicked when it first happen but confused on what to do.

should he offer her his help? should he ask if she needs painkillers? should he help wash the stained clothes or should he just step back and let her deal with it?

the first time he let her deal with it alone but the second time it happened he asked her if she needed help and started asking questions to know more about it and know how to help her next time it happened.

now, he's one of the most prepared members when it comes to her period.

as the leader, he thinks it's his responsibility to look out for her well being so he started stocking up on pads, painkillers and heating pads just in case.

he asked her if it was okay if he tracked her period and she obviously said yes and now he has an app on his phone to track it.

whenever yumi is in pain, he will sit next to her and ask if she wants hugs. if she goes say yes, he will give her the biggest hug ever.

he hates seeing his noona in pain.

he gives the members a heads up about her pms a week before her period starts ( he doesn't want any fights happening ).

"noona, remember your period is supposed to start in a week.", "noona, remember to stock up on pads and painkillers!", "noona, don't overwork yourself, you can collapse or faint easily this week."

he sometimes pays more attention to her period than yumi herself.

he carries painkillers and sometimes even pads in his bag just in case yumi needs them.

will only agree to buying her pads if she goes with him because he doesn't want to buy the wrong ones.

if nabi stained her pants in public he'll give her his hoodie or whatever he has and will make sure nobody else notices.

used to stay at 10 meters away from her when it happened because: 1. he was low-key scared of her  2. didn't want to disturb her 3. didn't know what to do so he opted to stay away.

like literally no contact with her. worse than sunghoon, at least he only went away when her mood was bad.

yumi picked up in this behaviour and started to get confused as to why he was acting that way.

she eventually asked him one day after he had been almost ignoring her for the whole week.

"i just don't know how to help you and I don't want to be a bother, so i stayed away. I do want to help you, noona. I just don't know how to."

girlie almost busted out crying, he seemed so sincere.

she then told him he should've told her before and that she would told him on what he could help.

his “job” is now mainly to make sure she is feeling alright.

hugs and cuddles for days.

riki might want to be this big scary guy but whenever his noona is feeling bad, he's there to give her all the hugs.

he now carries with him a small bag with painkillers, two or three pads (sometimes tampons, even though she normally doesn't use them) and snacks. mainly it's just with painkillers and snacks, the pads are only there whenever she puts them because she's scared she might forget them.

like sunghoon, ends her funny memes and videos for her to cheer up and be happy.

panics once he sees that she has stained her pants while in public. goes over to her and whisper's to her that she has stained her pants.

is normally a very annoying kid but turns sweet and caring.

will NOT go and buy her pads, baby steps with him. regardless if he would, yumi has never asked him this because he knows that it's not very fun and even the older members hate going.

but will buy her favorite candies as a 'i'm sorry I didn't buy you pads' gift. which normally consists of snacks.

the whole explanation. about why he's Like That in conquest. is that he. tripped into the bottomless canyon offscreen. it's just to incredible to me. it's only explained in BR that this happened to him. he just fucking fell into the bottomless canyon because he got chased into a landslide.

and he and ryoma got separated IN THAT BATTLE right??? RIGHT??? so ryoma escapes the mokushu ambush. there are Options, here, all of which are so fucking funny

Option 1: Ryoma is unaware that his little brother fell into a fucking canyon. So Ryoma just goes "yeah takumi is probably fine" and goes on his merry way to cheve, utterly oblivious

Option 2: Ryoma is aware that Takumi is currently presumed dead, informed nobody of this, and just went "aw shucks" and carried on to Cheve.

Sorry i'm still just. amazed. blown away. incredibly amused by. His Whole Deal from conquest being explained in the unintentionally funniest fucking chapter of birthright. Azura literally could've stopped him in ch10 of Conquest and then none of that shit would have happened in that route but she was too busy singing for Niles so he could snipe more pegasi with the ballista. Otherwise she would've clocked the possession and stopped it.

Like. I'm sorry. in BR, takumi literally joins as an enemy unit. Yeah it's piss easy to recruit him because which fuckhead moron ISNT deploying azura, but you could, in theory, just either a) not sing for takumi or b) have azura already be dead on classic, so you kinda just either have to kill him (which also has to snap him out of it, because all the royals have plot armor), or are just fucked because that fujin yumi Kills.

Y'all know how Sunsetter is, like... my Underswap take of sorts? Well, I've recently been working on ideas for an Underfell take of sorts as well, with my own little twists.

Well, it's... kinda an Underfell take. Just a bit different in... a lot of ways.

I made up the name as I'm typing this, because I didn't have a name beforehand.

RED HAZE: Tale Of The Fallen

(or just "Red Haze")

This take has a lot of differences from the usual interpretation, including changing appearances... more than just details and clothing.

(Do note that the main cast would have different names from their Undertale counterparts. But since I can't think of any ideas for now, and also to prevent confusion, I'm just using the original names.)

Unlike in Undertale, there is no barrier keeping monsterkind from going to the surface. Hell, there isn't a mountain at all. Instead, monsterkind resides in a magically imbued forest, with only one way to leave, while entering gets one endlessly lost.

Asgore simply is biding his time, getting the souls of seven humans, to become godlike, and to wipe out humanity. No monster tries to go after Asgore, or even question his methods. Some act this way out of fear of what he could do, others that are for him and for his plan, and then the few that don't care either way.

The "routes" are named somewhat differently from what people usually call Undertale's

Path of Solace - ("Pacifist" Route) Path of Choices - ("Neutral" Routes) Path of Exploit - ("Genocide" Route)

- this take's replacement for being "filled with determination"

AGONY is a haze that leaks from broken souls, with more of it depending how much negative energy one has when they die. It mentally and physically affects those who breathe it in. Naturally, it opposes the power of Determination, as that power does to it, destroying each other until one remains or there's nothing left. But, with enough focus, perhaps one could use both as one. Such a concept would be a focus of the Path of Exploit, specifically regarding both Undyne and Frisk.

Time for the cast!

Frisk and Chara

Admittedly, I didn't think much besides design-wise for these goobers. It's probably just that Frisk is more tired than usual and Chara was used as a sacrifice to the monsters in a failed attempt at a peace offering by humanity, actually got sick instead of it being planned, and yada-yada Asriel soul absorption and death. ...okay, maybe I thought a little for Chara. But not too much for Frisk.

The shirt patterns here are probably obviously Yumi Nikki inspired, despite the fact that I know nothing about the game itself besides some characters, lol.

The Dreemurrs (Toriel, Asgore, and Asriel)

Similar to canon Underfell, Toriel is what started this entire take concept to begin with. The idea stemmed from "what if the dreemurr family had biblically accurate angel imagery (eyes and wheels) instead of devil imagery (goats, fire, trident, y'know)?" And then I added "black sheep" into that, so that's what I ended up with.

Toriel is very fearful of humans, instead of a caretaker, running away and attacking when cornered. She uses what power she has to keep herself alone, not wanting to be emotionally tied and hurt again. (She's my favorite in the cast :3)

Asgore has been particularly affected by the AGONY of the many fallen children that died by his hand, becoming almost a tyrant, with only some of his original personality fading in and out.

Asriel is... actually not too different from canon Asriel, considering he died before everything really kicked off.

Flowey is a small mass/hivemind of bundled flowers, tied together like a "rat king". Each flower has only small snippets of past memories as Asriel, as well its own "personality", splitting Undertale Flowey’s personality into six pieces. They try to help Frisk get through the area, due to how unsafe it is. Whether they have their own goals remains to be seen.

The Blooks are shadow spirits instead of simple ghosts.

Napstablook is somewhat the same as in Undertale, other than the visual changes. Though, due to the circumstances, they’d have a bit more of an issue with their emotional state, bottling up their feelings, usually until such bursts when they can’t take it anymore.

Mettaton possesses many types of machinery, instead of just his singular body. In a way, this is due to the fact that he cannot decide on a single one.

The Ruins Dummy ghost is instead possessing a box and works as how items travel between boxes throughout the areas.

Maddie (aka "Mad Dummy" or "Mad Mew Mew" in Undertale, Maddie is sorta just a fandom nickname i think) basically acts like canon, but also a Mimic in a way, also possessing a box.

There would also be a secret boss fight against both Mettaton and Maddie, replacing Undertale's "Mad Mew Mew" one, with one where the two are trying to share the same body. The goal is to get the two to get along and work together… or just straight up destroy the body.

The Skelebros are instead lost spirits, seemingly of their original counterparts in some way...

Papyrus's goal is the same as his original, but instead in hopes of finally passing on, instead of joining a "Royal Guard". In reality, he knows he's never gonna pass on, but is in constant denial of such.

Sans, however, seems to have accepted and adapted to his “life”, and just wants to follow after his brother with whatever happens to him. He also likes dark humor, because of course he does.

The "Royal Guard" replacement is instead a cult that Undyne leads (and used to be led by Gerson), with a focus on a so-called prophecy, and using AGONY for what they see as a good thing. While they seem to be against King Asgore, it's more or less that they want him back to how he was before everything happened.

Undyne is a hooded guide throughout Waterfall (or whatever it'd be called in the take). She'd still be a fishlike monster, perhaps siren-like or anglerfish-like... or both. She protects the harmless from a gang of young monsters, led by Monster Kid.

Alphys is still the Royal Scientist, but also some form of background security in a way. She has an abundance of hidden cameras all throughout the Underground. She uses her vision across the areas for many reasons. Blackmail, catching traitors in the act, sometimes just... watching. Some monsters, especially many in the cult, have become evasive enough to miraculously avoid her gaze.

Her appearance is a bit more more based on that one beta design by Tuyoki.

I woke up in my room, looking around the room.

I noticed I was dressed in blue pajamas. Who changed me? I don't remember changing. I fell asleep in my clothes. Someone had changed my clothes.

After a while I sighed. I wonder where they have kitchens I want to eat. I don't want to take off my pajamas now, I'll do it later. Finding a refrigerator is more important. I left the room in my pajamas putting on my slippers.

Then I started looking for the kitchen. I walked for two hours and the kitchen was gone. Kitchen, where are you? I walked around like that for a while.

It came out after another 20 minutes. Finally I found the kitchen. Okay, what can I eat here? I thought about what to eat. Why are there only vegetables here... No sweets... They don't have any sweets here or something! I want candy.

I love candy! So many tomatoes here. I don't want... I want candy.

-Kachiku, do you think it's appropriate to wear pajamas? - I heard a voice from yesterday. The guy I hit with the door. How did he have rudos, rudos, rudos, whatever.

- Not my fault I don't have anything to eat ore - I said. - Rud? My name is rudki - he said a bit annoyed

Looking for the kitchen. I found it after 10 minutes I can get lost everywhere but this mansion is huge. Everyone was already there and the blond guy who made the deal with me.

I avoided him as much as possible. I took a seat next to Azusa and the giant. The blond guy made an offended face at this gesture. Suddenly ruki came, with Kou eating, he immediately got to them.

- Wait, Kou don't take them all! Before us! - Yuma shouted.

- Azusa, don't just sit there take it before the kou eats it all! - said Yuma loudly

- You too, eat," said Grant-hair. To me. They don't have any sweets here, just vegetables, well I have to eat it. At least here are some of my favorite vegetables. I put some food on myself.

- Kou's got a double or something! She really eats a lot! - said Yuma looking at the amount of food I put on my plate.

- Phi, I don't eat that much - I said. - We eat for free at home," said Ruki. I'm not a free eater either! I looked at the food and started to eat.

- Kitty don't forget about our agreement - He said. Blondie.A deal made in spite of me. - What agreement? - Yuma asked.

- You know, I decided that M neko Chan would pretend to be my girlfriend. After all, she is arrogant. - explained kou.

- You probably made her do it for something? - said Yuma.

- I feel sorry for you, you're going to get screwed. - said Yuma.

- I'm sorry Miss Yuma, maybe the pain will help you... - said Azusa.

- Azusa no," said Yuma. - But it will help her. - Azusa. - Azusa, no.

- Yes. - They were teasing each other. I ate while watching that show.

I put on the uniform I got from Ruki. Then I went down to the lounge where everyone was. Then we all got in the limo.

-Ruki announced. At those words I nodded my head.So I am Mukami.

- Me and Miss, Yumi... - The green-haired man smiled. At least, one of them is nice. We drove 30 minutes to school.

That explains why we left at 6pm. I know that classes are supposed to start at 7pm. I was walking through the school hallway when I heard girls' voices.

- Ah, kou, your concert last night was great! - I heard a delighted voice. I saw Kou surrounded by female fans.

- Ah, you were just there! - The blond guy said in my direction. Ah, he caught me looking at him...

- You go to school together with kou? - one of the fans said.

- I wonder. About that but Kou kun! Who is he to you? - said one of them with her eyes on me. - Ah, right. I'll have to introduce her to you girls.

- Kou said. Kou came up and put his arm around my shoulder.

- We're in a relationship,'' the blond man announced.

- I shouted one of them.

Finally, class is over. I can go home. I mean their house. It's not my house. I left the classroom and started heading for the exit.

- Do you need anything? - I asked them. - Listen, can you be a dear and stay away from Kou? -

when / if kyojuro namedrops douma, will hakuji be blunt? or will he take a little bit of time to break the news to kyojuro, especially since kyojuro seems pretty content with how his life is?

by the time Kyoujurou's new friend is made aware of Douma's role in the Rengoku bothers' lives, Senjurou has been working there for... ah, a whole year, maybe ? maybe slightly more. for a high schooler, that's an eternity. for Kyoujurou, that time passed in a second

in that time, Kyoujurou has watched his little brother grow more independent, in a way. he uses his pay on baking ingredients, spends almost as much time with his boss' neighbors as with his school friends, and he...

maybe it's Kyoujurou's over-protectiveness speaking, maybe it's the way he raised his brother himself for so long, the way their relationship isn't quite that of brothers and not quite that or a parent and his child, the way they have had no one but each other for so long

maybe it really is that Senjurou is starting to grow more distant, in a way Kyoujurou doesn't quite grasp

he doesn't talk about the office quite as much as he used to

he had showed off his brand new business card back when Douma first printed it for him. Kyoujurou had raised an eyebrow at the title ("assistant manager," even part-time, seems a bit overblown for what Senjurou told him he did) but they'd laughed about it together, and since Douma doesn't seem to have any other employee, he guesses that title isn't wrong, per se

the last time Senjurou mentions work to Kyoujurou, it's to tell him about how Douma will close the office for a few days, because he got hurt and can't show himself to clients right now

"I'll still go, just... I'll just watch over Douma instead of like. normal work," is what Senjurou said at that time

it had made Kyoujurou wonder if it was really necessary, if Douma didn't have anyone else to do that, if Senjurou couldn't just take a break in the meantime and maybe they could spend some time together for the first time in a while

but Senjurou had insisted that he wanted to help out, and Kyoujurou doesn't know how to tell him no about anything

and then... well, nothing, really. nothing really happened. Kyoujurou doesn't have a single reason to feel uneasy about any of this, and Senjurou acts the same as always, or maybe a little more assured, a little more independent, a little more distant

it's nothing to worry about

so Kyoujurou does his best to forget about it, goes about his days like usual - preparing classes and giving them, making corrections to homework and exams, drinking out with colleagues sometimes, and the weekly soryuu class/Hakuji friend-date

the holidays are rough, with no work to keep him busy, but the dojo is still here and so is Hakuji

Hakuji had some scrapes on his hands not too long ago, from "a bad encounter" he said, and Kyoujurou was glad nothing worse happened to him. something in the back of his mind made him want to run away, but he shut it down - he knows Hakuji, knows Hakuji isn't anything like father, knows soryuu isn't about the aimless violence of a drunk, but is about control and respect

Hakuji loves soryuu too much to dirty it, Kyoujurou is sure of it

it becomes easier to ignore the visceral unease as the scraped knuckles heal, though. time helps with many things, Kyoujurou has found

he goes to the dojo more often during the holidays, not always for classes, sometimes just to see Hakuji and help him out with his chores. they joke around like high schoolers while sweeping the courtyard, splash each other with the water bottles Koyuki kindly brings out

Hakuji is sort-of-possibly going to inherit the dojo, Kyoujurou learns. "it's not for sure," Hakuji says, scratching his neck in embarrassment when Kyoujurou hears a student from an advanced class mention it, "it's conditional, and I'm happy just working for Master Keizo anyway"

there's a bit of unease in his voice, that Kyoujurou tries to dispel with the first funny story he can think of. and maybe it's because he is missing Senjurou at this instant, or maybe it's just the hand of fate, but what comes to mind is this :

"at least that title makes some sense ! my little brother's boss calls him an assistant-manager !"

he shows Senjurou's business card when Hakuji tilts his head in confusion, and watches as Hakuji's eyes widen in something like horror

Hakuji grabs his arm, his grip so strong it hurts, but the pain is nowhere close to the one Kyoujurou feels when he realizes the kind of person he entrusted Senjurou to

it would be easy, easier surely, to refuse to believe this. Senjurou's beloved boss, a con man ? a loan shark ? surely, surely Senjurou would've seen, would've balked at the thought of hurting people through his work in any way

Senjurou's beloved boss, the previous child-god of a dead cult, a man raised almost from birth to take advantage of people's emotional wounds, their religious and superstitious and supernatural inclinations

Kyoujurou calls his brother in a hurry. he doesn't know what to tell him, what to ask him, what to do - it isn't like father, he can't just pack some bags and hold Senjurou in his arms as they flee their childhood home anymore, and would Senjurou even want to run this time ? Kyoujurou doesn't have any legal rights over him, he never did, there would be no way for him to keep Senjurou away from danger, not if he refused to follow

"brother ?" Senjurou asks, "what is it ? did something happen ?"

what Kyoujurou says is "please come home"

what he says is "Douma lied to you"

years down the line, he will wonder if the fault was in his words, if saying something, anything else, would've convinced Senjurou in that instant. or if it was all written from the start, if there was nothing he could've done, at this point or any other

what Senjurou answers is this :

"adults lie all the time. you did too, to protect me. Douma lets me help people with my - my gift. it doesn't matter if we lie, we're helping people feel better. that's what it means to grow up, right ?"

it isn't, Kyoujurou wants to say, but he has never been able to argue with Senjurou, not even once in his life

Bad Apple!! (remix by Alstroemeria Records) [Touhou Project]

Everyone knows the famous Touhou shadow music video, but not as many people know that it was actually just a stage theme for a boss in a 1998 Touhou video game! It's still a gorgeous song, and the animation only helped add to its popularity. It's still one that I go back and listen to regularly.

A Dusk Falls (ft. Yumi Kawamura from Fire Emblem Premium Arrange) [Fire Emblem Fates]

Probably one of my favorite themes in Fire Emblem. The tune itself always started off calm, before it became more intense, and it seems more so with the Arranged version and her vocals.

God Shattering Star [Fire Emblem Three Houses]

This is the final boss theme of the Golden Deer Route in the original Fire Emblem Three Houses, and it's certainly epic and fitting. I love the implication that it's the final boss singing - the vocals are only present when you're on the map making decisions, which then stop when you enter a fight, as if you're distracting him from his singing.

Hopeless Battle [Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds]

This is an unreleased track from the Japanese version of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, and it has a tendency to play during intense, emotional moments during battles. Still upsets me that it never got an official release, so fan-pieced versions are the only ones that we have unless we watch a segment it was played in in the show, but ah well.

…I think I've been listening to this song since the early 2000s. It was played in the opening of the Japanese version of Mega Man 8, and it's very intense. In my head, this is basically a classic that is just GOOD.

The final bell pierced the air, a sharp clang that shattered the focused hum of the classroom. A collective sigh rippled through the students, a wave of relief washing over them after a day of lessons, tests, and social navigation. Papers rustled as they're shoved into backpacks, textbooks slammed shut with finality.

A teacher who Eunyoung recognized as the head of the school newspaper approached her as she and Yumi made their way to the gate.

"Eunyoung! I'm so glad I caught you!" she sighed in relief, "There's an article that we need done urgently for next week. It involves interviewing the swimming team regarding the upcoming tournament. I understand you're swarmed in other schoolwork too, but could you cover it this one time? The boy who was supposed to write it is down with chicken pox, and won't be able to complete it."

"Sure Ma'am, it's no hassle," Eunyoung agreed with a smile, her heart swelling up with happiness, "I'll submit it by next week."

"Thank you so much!"

As the teacher left, Yumi stared at Eunyoung with a teasing smile. "I don't remember this happening before."

"This article was given to someone else because I declined it," Eunyoung answered, smiling, "I was never one for sports."

"You're getting used to this era pretty well, I see," the teasing smile was still plastered on Yumi's face.

"I hope you remember that you have piano practice at the music club today," Eunyoung attempted to change the topic.

"I remember it very well," Yumi answered, noticing the shift as well as her sister's flushed face, "Enjoy writing your article," she winked and skipped away.

Eunyoung, a smile playing on her lips, strolled leisurely towards the bus stop. The familiar path triggered a wave of deja vu, a feeling that mirrored her experience earlier that day. It was as if she were walking this very route not for the first time today, but for the hundredth, a memory from fifteen years ago inexplicably resurfacing.

Reaching the bus stop, she was met with the usual chaos - a throng of students jostling for a spot on the overflowing bus. But amidst the sea of uniforms, a single figure caught her eye. There, like a beacon cutting through the crowd, stood Sunjae. His beauty was undeniable - flawless features that seemed sculpted by the gods, and a mess of fluffy hair that cascaded down his forehead. He was a picture of youthful perfection, a vision that both startled and soothed her. 

So, this is the bus he takes... She thought to herself, the fact that she takes the same one slipping her mind completely.

Yumi dragged her feet along the pavement, making her way to the school music club to practice piano. Learning the piano was never something she wanted to do, but continued passively as she loathed the idea of quitting in the middle of learning. She remembers ceasing to practice after law school, which meant she hadn't touched a piano for nearly fifteen years. She couldn't recall her dislike for it, but reckoned that those old emotions would come crashing back to her the second she sat down on her piano stool.

Upon reaching the looming building, she was unable to take any steps inside, but simply gaped at it in silence. It was a place she kept revisiting, every single day, no matter what. Coming to practice consistently was something her younger self had never challenged, but now as she viewed life from a different lens, that had been weathered by adversities, she began to question if there was any meaning in these recurring religious visits.

Drawing up the courage from an unknown source within her, she entered the building with a blank, bored face. Sitting down at the waiting area outside the various practice rooms, she dug out her music sheets from her backpack, attempting at familiarizing herself with them after being parted for dog ages. 

Then suddenly, a cry of agitation diverted her focus to the source of the sound. 

"Yah! Kim Taesung! I can't believe you're late again!" Inhyuk scolded the boy.

Yumi turned her head the other way to find out who he was looking at. Her eyes fell upon a messy-looking boy- seemingly from her school, wearing just a white shirt with no tie and a bright red biker jacket. His hair fell loosely on his face, ruffled by the wind. He had a cat-like face and a cheeky demeanour as he smiled sheepishly at Inhyuk, "Let me go this time, I really got stuck in traffic."

"What bullshit," Inhyuk countered, "It doesn't even take 10 minutes to walk from school to here. Quit dilly-dallying and get your act together."

Taesung scoffed and murmured another apology.

Just then, a strong gust of wind blew through the open door, and the music sheets on which Yumi's grip had loosened while staring at the unknown boy, scattered across the floor. Both Inhyuk and Taesung lunged to grab them in time before they could fly away while Yumi closed the door. Taesung gathered the sheets from the ground and from Inhyuk and handed them to her.

"Here," he said. Yumi looked up at his eyes creased with a smile. All she could do was stare at his face blankly.

Why am I behaving like this?

"Thank you," she mumbled and took the sheets and made a run for the piano room.

"How odd..." Taesung muttered under his breath.

"So, what, you just stared at his face?" Eunyoung questioned after Yumi narrated the events of that day.

"I said thank you after," Yumi corrected, unsure of what to feel.

"How polite," Eunyoung said thoughtfully, "What about Inhyuk, did you talk to him?"

"What do you think?" Yumi retorted, "I need a reason to talk to him."

"I guess," she answered, "What about the other guy? You think he knows Sunjae?"

"I don't know," Yumi confessed, "Guess I'll have to find out."
