#a british cartoon villain accent

Actually, whenever I think of Tim Drake in my head, I always give him the poshest British accent I can think of, just the absolute most “early nineties cartoon villain” voice I can think of.
Tim in, like, every other timeline we see him in either dies or becomes evil (then dies). Tim was introduced by being a dark figure stalking Nightwing and Batman. Tim in the Young Justice comics has constant awareness of all of his teammates to the point that, while they do trust him entirely, none of them would be surprised to find out he murdered someone.
Tim should have a cartoonishly villainous voice. Just, he should. Take my word for it. Every single Tim line is improved tenfold by reading it in a British accent, try it.

I just started watching The Animals of Farthing Wood season 3. I LOVE Trey’s accent. I don’t care that he’s the villain. He’s great.

To me, British accents are "the cartoon villain voice" even though I can't immediately recall that many cartoon villains with british accents. I just hear a british person and I think they should be raving about how much they hate some talking animal who always ruins their plans.

A sorta clickbaity article came out saying that the Avatar live action remake is going to be toning down Sokka's sexism.
I won't comment on that because it feels kinda like it may be a quote taken out of context, but it does feel like a pattern in live action remakes that like...
These are remakes made for adults. But they are not remakes made for mature people.
These remakes are, at every turn, less capable of handling the mature subject matter involved in their source material, which is usually a children's cartoon. And it's really because what these are aiming for is a psuedo-fan of the original work who sort-of remembers it but thinks themselves too mature for cartoons - that is, an audience who wants the illusion of maturity, who scoff at cartoons, but who are not actually into media and analysis enough to actually handle mature themes.
You know?
Thus. It is totally fine for the original Lion King to have overtly fascist imagery to code Scar as the villain. Hell - between his british accent, cultured affectations, facial scar, and tendency to go around making speeches about the new era, the intent might have been for him to just be a fascist Lion. And, in the recent sequel series Lion Guard, Zira can evoke this exact theme - the show has an entire Racism Arc about the main character learning about hyenas and accepting them, and Zira representing the opposite of that. Further, Main Character Kion can go to war, he can deal with stress, he can get scars, and explore some really deep and serious stuff. This, in a show aimed at an even younger audience than the original.
Yet the Lion King Remake? The emotions are turned down. Scar almost had Be Prepared cut out. The wilder imagery was deemed too silly for the audience. Timon and Pumbaa spell out that their philosophy is bad instead of implying that it's something kinda good for them but bad for Simba. Characters were altered to conform to more mainstream and current trends and tastes. It can pretend to be live action, it can present an illusion of maturity - but while it does so, the movie will file away edges and fills the itself with these generically-affirming themes because it is aimed at the sort of adults who will become offended if media presents ideas that will make them uncomfortable or make them feel childish.
I think it boils down to like... Children do not get offended at media. It's adults who cannot handle cartoons who get offended at media.
And so these remakes, for however mature they pretend to be, are simply less capable of tackling the subject matter of the originals

Transformers Skybound #9 spoilers below cut
Tumblr media
omg, one whole panel for them? we eating well today 😋
Tumblr media
You know, I should be used to the "nobody is safe, not even your favorites." thing Skybound is going for, but I always go: "No way! They killed X!" I still wonder for how long they'll be able to pull this off without mudding things - like Ratchet died, but I had no real attachment to him here, this will only serve to affect Cliff's character - which let's be honest, is just red Bumblebee at this point, makes me wonder if he'll become jaded and violent...
Tumblr media
YEEES!!! G1 CARTOON SHOCKWAVE ILY!
Though, he's not exactly G1 cartoon Shockwave, is he? He's much more proactive and surprisingly lively, he reminds me much more of a Saturday cartoon villain - I do enjoy this take more than the emotionless-Thanos-wannabe-man-behind-the-curtain thing IDW was doing in their later run.
Yeah, but if you don't read his lines with a British accent you're wrong, sorry.
Tumblr media
"Now, let's say something to intrigue the readers into wondering about our past conflicts together, this will really legitimize our current dispute."
LMAO, me being a prick aside, I always like the TF thing where everyone knows each other and has beef.
Tumblr media
Brother, if they pull a "miracle cure! You're walking again!" thing I'll go berserk...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YEEEEES!!! I love love love what they're going for with the Decepticons!! Sure they're the baddies, and sure they kill people, but they think they're right in doing so and that makes them somewhat sympathetic - it gives them layers!! What I find funny is that Starscream (the outlier) was shown in the forefront of the faction in the first arc, acting to misdirect the audience (we still have people saying that all the Skybound 'cons are murderous psychopaths, even though I interpret them being more pragmatic than anything - still with the "might makes right" mindset.)
Tumblr media
On the one hand: SCRAPPER I LOVE YOU BBY GIRL!! 😍😍😍
On the other hand: JAZZ NOOOOO!! 😢😢
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was kinda funny lmao - they're teasing the readers with a fan-favorite character and then... Bam! Brawl sliced in half! Tho, he ain't dead, so yeah, Bruticus can still come. (that's what she said!)
What I find a tad odd is the fact that Vortex got clearly shot in the chest just two pages earlier - was Ons planning to form a one-armed Bruticus? Weird, especially since all 6 Constructicons are there and stuff, but ok!
I'm always a bit skeptical about the concept of more combiners (too much of a good thing), I think the "wow factor" wears off quickly - so I hope for one of two things: Do something different or just keep one (I do have a preference, but things are looking quite dull for them so...)
Tumblr media
she's badass.

Theater Kids- Worst Experiences with Marinette/Ladybug
HERE IT IIIIS! The final part of this saga! Thanks to @artzychic27 for creating this little series, and as always, @imsparky2002! Enjoy!
Previous:
Recess
Akuma
Science
Ayesha:
Ladybug became angry when the other heroes were far more prominently featured than her in Ayesha's latest cartoon
She called Ayesha's work 'cheap' and 'a little irritating' in an interview, devastating her and subjecting her to a bit of online bullying
Dot:
This girl tried to take advantage of Dot's position as secretary to get access to Adrien's personal files, and have her placed in all the same classes/activities as him
When Dot said no, because creepy, Marinette planted some evidence that almost got her kicked off the council for inappropriate conduct
Petra:
"Uh, I know you like that whole Decora look, and it's fine, it's your style, I'm not trying to be rude, but...there's such a thing as...going too far with accessorizing...your outfits are kinda...loud."
Petra gave their honest opinion, which Marinette ASKED FOR, on one of the bluenette's designs, and Marinette apparently didn't like what she had to say, so she ruined Petra's latest animation project "on accident".
Roxie:
This bitch had the audacity to insinuate that Roxie was to blame for the nasty break-up with their bitch of an ex-girlfriend, just because said ex happened to be a pretty influential client of hers. (FYI, that girl cheated on AND emotionally abused Roxie)
Has frequently called Roxie's temper 'scary' and 'dangerous', recommending that they should take anger management classes. (Bitch, what are you, a psychiatrist?!)
Anthony:
Not taking kindly to Anthony's trademark standoffish demeanor and snarky remarks, Marinette insinuated that Jesse shouldn't be dating such a jerk, and may or may not have implied that he's verbally and emotionally abusing him.
She also makes fun of and antagonizes him for being British , just because she can't stand Felix.
Candace:
Marinette got jealous when Adrien complimented Candace for an impressive stunt she'd performed while cheering at a DuPont basketball game
After coming back from half-time, she used her phone to reflect the sun from a nearby window into Candace's eyes, causing her to fall and break her wrist
Eri:
Marinette got angry and jealous when the gothic ballgown Eri had made beat out her own evening gown design for a fashion contest
When everyone had left the school for the day, Marinette destroyed the dress so Eri couldn't wear it to the awards ceremony
Staci:
Insinuated that Staci should be kicked off of cheer because her subdued demeanor and trademark snarkiness 'really dampened the team's spirit'.
She's also suggested that she cover up her birthmark with makeup
Margo:
Jealous that Margo's DIY accessories were more popular than hers at the school's craft sale, Marinette pretended to 'stumble' and wreck Margo's booth, destroying most of her work
Has actually called Margo's Nordic accent 'impossible to understand' and 'kind of annoying'.
Soo-Yeon:
Soo-Yeon accidentally made a foul against Adrien during a friendly basketball match, knocking him to the ground. Again, it was an ACCIDENT and Soo-Yeon apologized repeatedly.
Marinette didn't care about that however, when she purposely rolled a ball under Soo-Yeon when he attempted to dunk, causing him to go sprawling and dislocate his shoulder
In the "I Don't Have Enough Fabric to Make you an Outfit" Club
Parker:
In the "Vigilantism" club with Denise, publicly reprimanded by Ladybug for fending off an akuma with a self-defense maneuver when said villain was about to attack her and some of her classmates
Marinette frequently criticizes Parker's...militaristic fashion sense as well. (Parker/Gia: LET US WEAR OUR FUCKING CAMO DAMMIT)
Aggie:
Like with Gerard, Marinette is VERY aggressively accepting and tries to get Aggie to model for an 'inclusive' line, despite Aggie telling her repeatedly she is NOT comfortable in front of a camera.
Frequently tells Aggie that she needs to 'speak clearer' and 'use actual words'. It's called a Scottish accent, bitch! Shut up.
Brecken:
Constantly making backhanded and critical comments about Brecken's build and weight, comparing him to Kim in that regard, insinuating that 'maybe the rest of his body could use the same level of commitment as those beefy arms.'
STOP SAYING SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE'S ACCENTS, DUPAIN-CHENG
Mona:
Like with Simon, Marinette has tried to gaslight Mona into getting secret footage of Adrien while he's working on film projects, and actually sabotaged Mona's wheelchair when they refused.
Also frequently makes rude and backhanded comments about Mona being 'in the way' and 'slowing everyone down'
Evie:
Marinette couldn't stand when Evie and Adrien chose to perform a duet together in the school talent show, him playing and her singing, so she took drastic measures
She laced Evie's tea with cinnamon, which the girl is allergic to, causing her to have an anaphylactic reaction and leaving her unable to sing
Anais:
Marinette got jealous when Anais was assigned to tutor Adrien in chemistry and tried to spy on them. She got angry when Anais noticed she was there and asked her to please leave.
She sabotaged Anais' chemistry midterm, earning them a failing grade and getting it in HUGE trouble with her parents.
Jesse:
Marinette got angry with Mylene for refusing to give up her role in a movie as romantic co-leads with Adrien
In retaliation, she took a picture of Jesse and Mylene hugging and jacked up the angles with some editing to make it look like they were kissing. She posted it on the school blog and spread rumors that Mylene was cheating on Ivan with Jesse.
Eloise:
Eloise was having trouble carrying all of her math books for a formula she was working on, so Adrien stopped to help her.
Witnessing this, Marinette became jealous and took advantage of the fact Eloise couldn't see over the tall stack of books to trip her so she smashed her head on a locker, leaving her with a (Thank God) minor concussion.
Missy:
Screamed and made a HUGE scene the first time she saw Missy's 'freakish' teeth, asking why she doesn't file those down.
Doesn't appreciate her sharp attitude and has actually openly called her a bitch
Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs! Hope you enjoyed this!

Thanks for the tag @autism-purgatory, I've never done this one before!
Voice Claim Tag
Rules: list your voice headcanons for your OCs, and you can add clips if you really want to.
Uh, so I'm really bad at remembering voices or matching them to the specific ones I imagine for my characters, so I'll just describe what I imagine.
Izjik: Strong Maori/Kiwi accent, rough undertones. She talks loud and in a lower register.
Sepo: Undefined romance language accent, elegant baritone. He puts a lot of emotion into his voice that he'd never show on his face. The telepathy gives it a ringing edge.
Twenari: A thin, reedy voice. Slightly posh british accent. Clears her throat a lot. Very soft-spoken.
Djek: New Yorker accent. Clear tenor. Very bubbly and expressive in his speech.
Astra: Georgia accent, all moonbeams and magnolias. A very pretty voice, low alto, and great for telling stories.
Mashal: Very whispery and hesitant. Slight stutter. No discernable accent (so, upper south in my books). His voice has a bit of static to it that gets worse when he's upset.
Ivander: The fruitiest, campiest, cartoon villain British accent you can imagine. So refined it hurts. Middle tenor.
I'll tag @elsie-writes @mk-writes-stuff @frostedlemonwriter @bard-coded @redwingedwhump and anyone else who wants to play :)

A Muppet Christmas Carol, or the Muppets meet the Monster
Tumblr media
Dicken’s “Christmas Carol” has been filmed many times for over 100 years. “Scrooge or marley’s Ghost” (1901), a short British film, is the earliest known surviving screen adaptation. Of all these screen adaptations, no doubt the Muppet Version is many peoples favorite version. My personal favorite is the Alistair Sim’s 1951 film, but I greatly enjoy this one, and re-watched it recently.
As I watched it, it got me thinking of “Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein”, my favorite of the old Universal Horror films, after “Bride of Frankenstein”. Why does that film still work decades after it’s initial release? Well simply that they allowed the comedy to be done by Abbott and Costello, while the monsters performed their roles seriously. One person, seeing “Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein” in an early showing, said that she expected a comedy from an Abbott and Costello film, but the monsters gave her children nightmares. Monsters used to scare people back then. Today, the scariest thing I can think of in a recent horror film, was Keannu reeves attempt to put on a British accent in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula film.
This film does work, because it is a story of the journey and redemption of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Without the right person playing Scrooge, the film falls apart, and Michael Caine does a wonderful  portraying Scrooge, including his having felt renewed after the ghosts visit. He takes the role seriously, and as well with George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart, portrays Scrooge as a very human being, and not as an overdone burlesque character. There is one actor in a 1970s musical version which I don’t hold as in high regard, even if I do love things about that film. In that 1970s musical version, the actor who played Scrooge, did so like he was sucking on a sour lemon during his entire performance. In “The Muppet Christmas Carol”, The Muppets know when to  provide the comedy, and in the area where Scrooge is shown Christmas future,  not to bring out the antics. It’s fun to see the different roles the Muppets take on is the story. At one point, when Sam the Eagle says, “It’s the American Way!”, they have to remind him where he is. So he says, “It’s the British Way!”
I did title this the Muppets meet the monster, and if there is any doubt he is considered a monster in this version, we’re informed in a musical number that he is so evil, he can affect the weather and chill you to your bones. In the 1970s musical, it was worse, as we’re told he’s the meanest man in the whole wide world, and even worse, he knew it. It makes me wonder if he subscribes to villains monthly, to learn all the latest tips in remaining a top villain. Do they have awards I wonder?
But is Scrooge really such a villain? My understanding  he was based in part on Charles Dickens, and what Dickens fear of what he’d become. He may have written this as a way of dealing with his own lack of Christmas spirit. This I understand, was also the case of Theodore Geisel with “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, who wrote a story of a character dealing with everyone else getting a holiday he himself didn’t. It also reminds me of that Cartoon by Charles Addams, where Gomez is looking out the window at the way his neighbors have decorated their homes, and how the snow makes his neighborhood look like something you would see in a Christmas special. He turns to his family, and says “Suddenly, I have a dreadful urge to be merry.”
If there is one weakness in this version, it’s that how the death of Scrooge’s sister isn’t mentioned. Her death may have been what affected Ebeneezer the most, and caused him to take his dark path. She was there for him, when nobody else was. Her death bringing his nephew Fred into the world, was a great part of the reason that Scrooge resented Fred getting married. It really adds to the reason Ebeneezer resented Fred getting married, then simply that Fred married a poor girl. It also make’s where Fred is willing to get to know Fred’s wife after his visits from the ghosts. In all fairness however, Scrooge’s sister isn’t even brought up in two other versions I love, which are the Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol, or the Mr. Magoo Christmas Carol. I understand, because both of these animated versions probably considered Scrooge losing his sister too dark, yet in the examination of Scrooge’s life she was one of his few lines to the outside world.
This is a beautifully made film, that is well deserving of being the favorite Christmas film for many. If you haven’t seen it, it is well worth checking out.

Hello❣️ When did the Alfred Molina fangirling begin for you?
Omg, thank you for this question. I love answering this question. 😆
(⚠️ I'm probably about to fangirl about a cartoon way too hard but here I go!)
So back in 2014, when Matador and Love is Strange premiered, Alfred was also voice acting in a Disney XD show called Penn Zero.
Tumblr media
(You can totally tell he was still filming Matador. This was from the interview he did for the show. Also we love the slightly opened shirt 👀👀👀)
Now this was way before I knew his whole IMDB, so I only knew him as Doc Ock. I was just starting college back then and saw a teaser trailer for the show. Immediately, I was hooked by the premise (since I used to watch Quantum Leap with my grandfather) and tuned into the first episode.
Then I saw his character...this green goblin/alien looking dork:
Tumblr media
(This is from another episode that wasn't the first episode. But still, you get the idea.)
I immediately loved his character design (did you notice how they gave him a similar nose and wrinkle lines? Even his unibrow is thick as hell.) and then he started talking. Now, granted, I didn't realize that Alfred was British back then, (I just knew his American accent because of Doc Ock) so I didn't know it was him voicing the alien character named Rippen.
But when he started talking, I was sent. Like I was deceased. 💀💀 I was instantly tuned into this show. I wanted more. (I might like British accents way too much.)
Fast forward to my sophomore year of college, I was in my dorm watching a new episode of the show. Something told me to watch the end credits too so I did and I saw his name.
The gears in my brain started to work and I realized that I heard that name somewhere before. So immediately, I start typing away furiously on my Wikipedia app and I see that he was best known for being Doc Ock.
I dropped my phone in shock and literally lost my damn mind. Like I couldn't believe it. My inner 8 year old was going fucking crazy. But I had to share the news with my brother.
So I'm furiously dialing his number and I just start talking a mile a minute, not even catching a breath until my brother had to stop me.
Then I calmly explained and he didn't know what I was talking about since he had never seen Spiderman 2. But he was excited for me finding that out and we just geeked out about the episode we just watched.
When I got back home for the holidays, we looked at his IMDb. This was also long before my marathon and we found out he played a villain on a cartoon my brother loved at the time, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This mofo named Ke-Pa is the character he played on that show. The left is his cursed form and the right is his demon form.)
So yeah, we were more familiar with his voice acting career at the time than his live-action stuff. And we enjoyed Penn Zero to the end.
The Rippen side of the Penn Zero Fandom was my first step into the actual Alfred Molina Fandom and then I found you guys 7 years later.
And through that side of the cartoon's fandom I found out about Satipo due to a parody they did on the show:
But the show is chock full of other references of characters Alfred has played. I'm not gonna spoil it for you if you do want to watch. But you'll probably catch them. 😉
If you're interested, you can find all the episodes here.
And if you ever want to geek out about the show, you can DM me or send me an ask. I love talking about this show, so it'll make my whole day.

sometimes i think about how LRW's civilian/work clothes are already CMYK. Cyan = Headband hairclip thing (is it one of those plastic hairclips from the early 2000s that didn't actually hold your hair bc you needed like 3 other ponytails to keep it in place, or is it like a plastic ring???) Magenta = Shirt, Yellow = Hair. She's a walking printer cartridge before she gets copiered. Also legit disappointed we never got a 'machinations' pun from her because... because machine....... (also ty for providing 10/10 wordgirl content, my hyperfixation is back with a vengeance and I appreciate your posts very much /gen)
It took me forever to answer this just know my guilt is immeasurable and my apologies are plenty /lh anyways
I THINK the thing that Beatrice wears is a headband, but I have seen a lot of fanart where it’s one of those giant ponytail holder things, and I love to imagine that, if we take the show in the context of 2022 that Beatrice has worn the exact same outfit since like the 1990s or something and she refuses to change it. That seems in character.
The villain character designs are literally top tier in this show. They HAD to have done the CMYK thing on purpose, literally no way it was an accident, kudos to you for seeing that JKSDFDS like it’s a visual pun the writers of this show love that kind of silly stuff
Why couldn’t we have more machinery-based word lessons with the sheer amount of machine-based villains. Mr. Big, LRW, Twobrains, Granny May to an extent, and of course mf Robot Mccallister
LRW is iconic and out of all of the villains I remembered her design PERFECTLY years after I had first watched the show when I was actually the target demo. I love how she clearly gave up on brushing her hair all the way through years ago. I love how exhausted she constantly is. I love how she can switch from faux timidity to pure internal rage. I love how being a villain is her outlet for the stress of everyday life. She is just coasting along, respect.
This is not anything to do with your ask about LRW but i’m gonna talk about it anyways, I love all the character designs so so much. Chuck being a sandwich head is so random like how did they decide that. Did they give him the sandwich theme, the name, or the design first because NONE of those things seems like something someone would bring up at a pitch meeting casually
Mr. Big being a stereotypical business guy but with a robber’s mask as his symbol is so creative and slick I will never get over it, meanwhile Leslie looks like that stereotypical blonde assistant except she’s constantly monotone inside and out and is secretly wearing a karate uniform at all times
Twobrain s tumblr se xymann (no but serious this is another one with like how did they think of that concept. Did they start off making Steven as like the science character and then they fucked with it?? Or did they make the mouse thing and then do a tragic backstory?? I have so many questions)
Tobey looks like literally every British child you’ll ever see and the fact that he’s faking his accent makes that even funnier. Great punchline
The coach is a short king but he also needs to shave that mustache like come on dude you look like you’re banned from school grounds
Whammer’s horns are unnecessary and also the best thing ever I hope that he never ever loses all the random bullshit in his design <3
(edit WAIT I JUST GOT IT. HE’S A BULL IN A CHINA SHOP. BECAUSE HE WRECKS THINGS. DAMN YOU PBS)
Butcher is such a CLASSIC cartoon character idk how to explain it but like. He’s a meat butcher. He wears a butchers outfit covered in meat. His magic power is meat. He butchers words. Simple, I love it. Also he’s not stereotypically mean or brutish, he’s a sweet guy.
I Like how in the Best’s design their hair is shiny while most of the other characters don’t have any texture or detail in their hair. It’s a nice touch and great visual storytelling that this family is made of perfectionists and egotists
I like how the learnerer makes no sense and scares me a little! There is no explanation he just looks like that!
I like how with Seymour’s design his power is his teeth, and his design is literally BUILT from the ground up to highlight just how got dam white those teeth are
NOCAAAAAAN
Okay done with talking about character designs hnnnn
(and thank you!! My hyperfixation also rushed back as you can see so i’m glad I can provide engaging content for some ppl dkflsldj)

New Fiction 2022 - July
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "1 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
More begetting children and all their names before coming back around to more of David's reign. So many chapters are just appendices to previous events.
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "2 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
Two Paralipomenon, say that five times fast. So now it's on to Solomon and his riches (again), Roboam talking about how his little finger is bigger than his dad's dick, and Jeroboam getting whipped with scorpions all the way to the fall of Jerusalem. It's basically another look at what we saw in Kings.
Dracula Daily - "July" by Bram Stoker & ed. Matt Kirkland (1897, 2021)
Dracula’s finally outta that musty old castle, though leaving Jonathan in the lurch is quite the cliffhanger. And that poor, poor captain.
Bad Hare Day by R.L. Stine (1996)
A mish-mash of various ideas from earlier books. It has the vibe of Haunted Mask and stealing secrets from weird adults, the experimenting with illicit stuff from Monster Blood, animal transformations from various books, bratty younger sister who bullies the protagonist, a Slappy-like snarky villainous character. It’s too much of a remix and more slapstick than horror.
Egg Monsters from Mars by R.L. Stine (1996)
A decent creature story, but the latter half kind of sags with the protagonist spending a lot of time just trapped in a freezer and struggling to stay warm. The villain is genuinely frightening but also one-dimensional and doesn't really explain his motivation well. And there's not enough of the egg monsters. It's close to a top tier book but just sputters too much along the way.
"Bathtub Mermaid" by Edith Zimmerman (2022)
Someone has to hear about the doll thief.
"its time for… the dark cabinet" by itstimeforcomics-blog (2015)
When you least suspect it.
Lost Highway dir. David Lynch (1997)
One can see the continuation of a theme in Lynch’s work since Blue Velvet. Does he want us see the darkness or the light?
Mad God dir. Phil Tippett (2022)
If the journey ends for you, it doesn’t mean it’s the end.
Mr. Malcolm's List dir. Emma Holly Jones (2022)
British accents always class up the cruelty.
Thor: Love and Thunder dir. Taika Waititi (2022)
Whoof, what a drop from Ragnarok.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers dir. Akiva Schaffer (2022)
A reflection of a reflection that is unaware of what it sees.
Where the Crawdads Sing dir. Olivia Newman (2022)
Pump up the volume on the mystery, tone down the romance.
Nope dir. Jordan Peele (2022)
The most fun take on Jaws since the original. A real hoot and also really fucked up at times. An understanding of horror by someone who continues to bring cool ideas to movies.
Vengeance dir. B. J. Novak (2022)
You get awful close but you shouldn’t have been the face of it. Now we ask, what did we learn?
Fear Street Part One: 1994 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Really going for it right out of the gate. I’m in. Now I need to know if I should go back and read Fear Street after reading this bunch of Goosebumps books.
Fear Street Part Two: 1978 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Even the devil craves a kind word.
Fear Street Part Three: 1666 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Legacy is mankind’s ruin.
Goosebumps - "Bad Hare Day" (1996)
Erf, the book was rough, and the episode doesn’t do itself any favors by leaning into the snarky villain.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (1988-1990)
A nostalgia bomb like every one of these 90s cartoons tends to be, though the tropes eventually wear thin when watching it all in one go. Monterey Jack may be what crystallized my appreciation of cheese.
Better Call Saul - Season 5 (2020)
This show... it doesn’t build the way Breaking Bad builds. It’s more of a roller coaster with the sense of hitting the same drop a few too many times. This season is a bookmark in place while you wait for the extra season that should have been season five.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021-2022)
I feel bad for the actors and crew of this ostensibly standalone TV show. Your makers should have had the fortitude to stick the vision.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Better, but only because it is exactly what I remember. It’s comfortable, like an old pair of socks.

I am not going to hate on Arcane because 1. I haven’t watched it, 2. I am 100% sure it will be good because the animation is amazing and 3. I am also 100% sure that if I never played LoL in my life and never liked Viktor, I would’ve loved him in Arcane anyway, like I think we are star-crossed, he is meant to be my favorite character
That being said, I still hate his new lore. If Arcane was it’s own thing, fine. If Arcane was the backstory to Viktor’s old lore, also fine. I don’t dislike him in Arcane if he was like that from the start and the original Viktor didn’t exist. But the fact that unless they retcon Viktor being a villain in Arcane (prayer circle), then he goes from being a disabled man who would want to find a way to improve his quality of life and disability with the Hextech technology to a crazy/evil/radical Saturday morning cartoon villain as he is in his current lore, and I don’t have to explain why this is bad. Like even in that one scene he is in Arcane he is framed as a villain in his entry, coming from behind Jayce’s back out of the shadows, being calm despite witnessing what he does, his cane being the first thing in view etc.
I’ll always have a bone to pick with the new lore. Because it’s not good. The old one wasn’t well polished and it was vague and there was a lot of work to be done, but it was a lot better base for a character. It was less cliche and it had more room to Not make Viktor another Russian villain. They could’ve built on it. And I am upset because we small group of Viktor fans fought against the first lore change back in 2012 when Jayce came out and we did win! They changed Jayce’s lore to not make Viktor a Saturday morning cartoon villain! And now we are right back at it, with few extra steps.
Bottom line is I want to love Arcane, I really do. I waited since 2011 to know more about Viktor, I both wanted to know his face and didn’t. This should’ve been the best thing, but it’s not because I can’t like his current lore. Also they seriously hired a British VA to fake a Russian accent in 2021 and it sounds like crap, so there is that additional burn towards me as a Slavic person knowing that faking our accents is still an acceptable thing to do.

dead end: paranormal park is fun & cute and I like it so far (episode 2 only) but it makes me endlessly sad that pugsley does not have a sort of “american cartoon british” liverpool accent a la wakko warner or that one teen titans villain like he did in the original short. “I am thank you” as an answer to “are you ready” has entered my lexicon and been part of it for so so many years since seeing the original short and it delights me no end that it was picked up and produced as a full show
