In Jester’s head she recalls once seeing a dog afraid of being kicked, but too hungry to resist begging for scraps.  That’s the tone in Eadwulf’s voice. “I have lots of books,” she reminds him, “and you’ve never looked at them!” Eadwulf’s nose wrinkles again, “you have lots of… fiction.” “It’s romance, but lots of them have fighting,” Jester leans up on her tiptoes to whisper, “lots of them have sex too.” Eadwulf’s grimace deepens, as if that’s worse. Jester puts her hands on her hips, “what? You’re too good for that?” “I’m an academic,” Eadwulf scoffs.

Maybe now would be a good time to mention that Etho doesn’t technically join hermitcraft until after the start of Double Life… which means. Yeah dbhc Etho is still in reset-mode for the entirety of Double Life (this is about equally upsetting as it is genuinely hilarious)

(Despite being explicitly told not to force Etho to re-deviate by Xisuma and Doc, and after roughly a month of no luck, I’m sure you can imagine the impatience and desperation that went into Bdubs’ decision to sign Etho up for the next life series, considering the last one was the last time Bdubs really saw Etho. Or. As himself anyway.)

watching martyn's lore stream yesterday was so funny bc grian is literally never beating the Watcher allegations. martyn said that he was DMing him to betray scott and get a move on because it was all taking too long. after it was all over he DMed martyn saying that that was the best decision to make there. if you watch from scott's pov, you can hear him say "finallyy" after impulse dies and martyn is going on his little rant. like he doesn't ever do it on purpose but it's actually so funny this is why he was chosen to be a watcher isn't it My God

Astrid would hate sailing, he thinks. She would especially hate sailing with Fjord and Jester. The chaos, the lack of hierarchy and the close quarters of it would make her mean and miserable. They could have hid away in their room together, waiting out the journey until they could escape the confines of the ship. The thought should be funny, and only makes his chest feel tight. She’s small enough that they could have shared a hammock, she might have made allowances for that kind of prolonged contact. Eadwulf would probably have slept on the floor anyways, to give her the space she needs. He tries not to think about her, but his hand is reaching into his bag before he can stop it. The dark doesn’t matter, he knows the handkerchief and other items by touch alone. He holds it to his face for a moment, picturing that it still has Astrid’s smell. That she’d only just discarded it, frustrated with her imperfect stitching, and she hadn’t noticed him pocket it when she left to go study with Bren. It’s been years since he collected this, and just as long since it stopped smelling like her. Eadwulf holds it tightly in his fist, feeling the other small things wrapped inside of it, and then he pushes it all back down to the bottom of his bag. I miss you. I’m sorry it had to be like this, he thinks, as if she could hear him, and then I wish that was enough.
