Seven Fic(s) Sunday 😅
HELLO! I was feeling unhinged so rather than post seven sentences from one fic, here’s seven fics with one or two sentences i know i know need helpppp 🙃
Tumblr media
1) the 5x06AU
When he sees how cinched the plastic around his wrists has gotten, how awful the deep red grooves are, a cruel voice whispers in the back of his head; you did that.
2) ren’s very overdue birthday fic
Even in the limited torchlight, Buck can track the path of disturbed earth, mud, and rocks leading back to his awkward position at the base of the incline, in the wake of what he imagines was a pretty accurate impression of a slip-n-slide.
3) the appendicitis fic
Buck carefully slices half a peach into even smaller pieces, and watches on tiredly as Isabel reaches for them—timidly at first—before throwing caution to the wind and grabbing them in her tiny fist, squishing their juices all over her fingers, and handing the mush back to her father as a gift.
“Oh for me?” Buck says graciously as he accepts the slobbery-fruit from her hand. “Thank you so much!”
4) the bobby coda 6x11
“They’re his favorite,” Maddie says then, sounding touched at the sincerity, and Bobby nods to let her know that even though he knew as much already, he doesn’t mind the confirmation. “Hates the peanut ones. He used to get so mad when our mom forgot. He’d scrunch his little nose up so tight—”
5) the pneumonia fic
“Easy—don’t fight the vent, okay? Just–just—can you nod if you can hear me?”
6) the buddie coda 6x12
Untangling himself from the soft, warm throw that Eddie must have draped over him in the night, Buck lets his eyes readjust to the darkness.
7) aaaand trapped fic #3
Eddie can’t help but smile in response and while he doesn’t turn around to look, somehow he just knows that Bobby is rolling his eyes at the two of them flirting while trapped in a cave-in.
Thank you for tagging me @daffi-990 and @glorious-spoon <3
I’ll taaaag the wonderful writers who inspire me daaaily @homerforsure @princessfbi @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels @shortsighted-owl @renecdote @hopeintheashes @capseycartwright @thisissirius @woodchoc-magnum @buckactuallys @kananjarus @lovebuck @like-the-rest-of-la @bigfootsmom @thekristen999 @zainclaw @fleurdebeton @fcntasmas @nymika-arts and @littlespoonevan 💕

crystal's tunes #3: Romance is Boring by Los Campesinos! (2010)
"First and foremost, oh, let it be said/I am writing this at 7:10AM/On the hard dry tarmac of a vacant forecourt/Astronomically speaking, it's the first day of Autumn." - I Just Sighed. I Just Sighed, Just So You Know (Track 11) this album has been a staple of my taste for years, it's overdue that i write about it, and of course the first day of autumn is the perfect time.
the third Los Campesinos! album, romance is boring, is the perfect cap on the original lineup era of the band. containing some of their greatest lyrical work, satisfying instrumentals and a sense of humour that perfectly harmonizes with some of it's more sombre themes. released less than 2 years after their debut album (and 1.5 after their sophomore), this album is a much more mature in its songwriting, but retaining the immature, verbose lyrics they're known for, referencing romance and sex often despite the album title. however, these are largely about toxic relationships and miscommunications, with gareth usually portrayed as pathetic in the narrative of the songs.
one great example of this is Straight In At 101, one of the most iconic songs from the album. the track starts very directly with the line "I think we need more post-coital, and less post rock/Feels like the build-up takes forever, but you never get me off", and then progressively describes a break-up, getting cold feet, and a series of failed attempts to get laid, before finding out that his breakup didn't even make it onto a tv show of the 100 most heart-wrenching breakups of all time. he should be happy about this, but is instead embarrassed and shameful for his breakup not being more devastating.
as we reach the second half of the album though, the tone begins to transition to themes of existentialism and mental health, though romance is still the through-line between the songs. gone is the occasional comedy of the first 7 tracks, now we have discussions of headstones as "rows of engraved middle teeth, hungry, waiting for me" - Who Fell Asleep In (Track 8), eating disorders, abuse and self-harm.
instrumentally there's a change in vibe here too, with a lot more slower-paced songs and darker chord sequences in this half. the lyrics also become more violent, and start making fun of the listener for being so invested - "broke down laughing and screaming for more, but if this changed your life, did you have one before?" - I Warned You: Do Not Make An Enemy Of Me (Track 9).
in I Just Sighed. I Just Sighed, Just So You Know, the protagonist is unable to detatch himself from the person he has a crush on - "i've displayed marriage proposals on the jumbotron of ball games you've not been at/i've written eulogies in guest books in galleries in the hopes that you might pass" - but by the end of the song he finally realises his fault, but still deals with it in an immature way: "i promise after this i will pick up the phone book/and pick the name my eyes fall upon on their first look/aim all of my poorly composed declarations there in the future".
the emotional culmination of the album comes in the track The Sea Is A Good Place To Think About The Future, a song describing his girlfriend's declining mental health, and the unhealthy coping mechanisms she uses to deal with it, and the chorus describing the girlfriend's suicide by drowning herself in the ocean. the tone here is deadly serious, and the song is absolutely incredible.
the final track on the album, Coda: A Burn Scar In The Shape Of The Sooner State, leaves the end of the narrative intentionally, describing a death and then ending with the line "I can't believe you chose the mountains every time you chose the sea". overall this album is just the perfect encompassment of this original era of Los Campesinos!, from the instrumentation with violins, horns and duet vocals to the sexual lyrical content, sense of humour and unusual number of football references. i'd say it's their most essential album, and it's certainly influenced my taste in music since i first listened to it five years ago. i can't wait to see them live next week.

hasty star trek update time. tonight we did voy's "alter ego" and ds9's "the darkness and the light" and i WILL NOT have time to update later so HERE IT IS
alter ego (voy):
the summary of this one made me so wary...tuvok and harry falling for a HOLODECK character? like, MARRIED tuvok? but it was actually not nearly as bad as i expected and then in the final act really elevated itself to something special
what i love most about this episode was that they solved the problem with compassion and not guns. that's so rare, or rarer than it should be, in 90s trek. or it FEELS rare. this felt very refreshing. tuvok specifically always has compassion for people, not in spite of lack of emotion but BECAUSE of lack of emotion - he does not hold grudges the way human beings do
second best thing about this episode was that nobody was stupid. when harry kim realized he was in love with a holodeck character (who was actually a real person! who can blame him!) he did everything he was supposed to do. he acted appropriately to try to handle the situation with maturity and grace. when tuvok realized he had been a dick to harry he apologized. when he realized that lady was hot for him he ended their interactions. like, most of the time you sit there watching star trek "there are 100 easy ways to fix this" that's just the danger of any genre show where they come up with magic or scifi on the fly. but not this time! it was nice
the polynesian luau thing was vaguely racist (when neelix said he studied the culture extensively i laughed out loud) but disgruntled tuvok in the lei was really good. actually.
the darkness and the light (ds9):
ANOTHER REFRESHING EPISODE. it feels like we haven't poked at kira's war trauma in awhile and we were well overdue...idk if to other people it feels repetitive but to me it's much more interesting than having her heal linearly and just Be All Better Now!
i am so sad those two guys who broke into her quarters died...i liked the guy with one arm so much :(
it was monumentally stupid for her to go running around with someone else's baby in her BUT i absolutely understood why
i LOVED that odo knew instantly someone had broken into his office because his chair was out of place (autism) and that it was kira to steal those names (romance)
actually there was a lot of good odo and kira in this episode. FINALLY content for me. she barely mentions her dumb boyfriend because she has all the man woman etc she needs right here
that transporter death was fucking GNARLY and the scene where the baby almost gets ripped out of her was genuinely tense - i didn't know if this was how the baby finally got born or not
love that she was pregnant and still able to take on like 3 guys. queen.
the bit with nog was deeply funny. never argue with the lobes! the ferengi could be good if they were good. that was absolutely charming
worf and dax flirting in the runabout was also so funny. she was batting her eyelashes at him for gambling money and he was totally unsympathetic
NEXT TIME: ds9's "the begotten" and voy's "coda" (AAAAAAAAA)

My thoughts on the Walking Dead Series Finale, Rest in Peace.
Or did they change the title?
No matter.  Spoilers ahead.  So tread carefully through the lengthy landmine of my consciousness, lol.
Placing behind a cut because reasons.  Oh and typos abound because it’s 3 am and I haven’t gotten a good night’s sleep since this episode so.
Some general thoughts about Season 11 and TWD in general—much like the season, this is gonna be all over the place so BEWARE and read accordingly
 ·      Carol and Daryl deserved a better ending than that.
·      Except for the images of all the characters we’ve loved and the ones we’ve lost along the way saying “we’re the ones that live”?  I basically hated that Richonne coda.  It was too long, too detailed, and too ambitious for a show that all too frequently in its latter season dropped the ball on the little things that would have paid off big.
·      I’ve lost count of how many fucking time jumps this show has taken over the span of its entire run, but I do know there have been too many.  Not only that but they’re always skipping valuable character moments and arriving at their “end destination” without any build up because, yep, they skipped it.  What could have been forgivable a few times turned into one of this show’s biggest liabilities.
·      So many characters just disappeared with little to no explanation.  Off the top of my head?  Heath.  Cyndie. Hell.  All of Oceanside was hand waved away this season.  Virgil.  Like did the dude die or what?  And what of Annie?  Negan’s insta-wife carrying his redemption-baby?  After having comparable screen time to the show’s leading lady (c’mon, you know it’s true, especially in 11A and 11B), she just vanished.
·      Speaking of screen time, what in the actual fuck were TIIC thinking sidelining their leading lady, their most talented actress, the heart and soul of the whole damn show?  As Carol, Melissa McBride is an incomparable actress.  Absolutely phenomenal.  And as one of two OGs, she should rightfully have figured very prominently in the main storyline threads this entire season, not just had her appearances sprinkled over the last 8 episodes.
·      Inexplicably, it seems Carol’s screen time was “given” to Maggie so that she might have a circular argument with Negan for 2/3’s of the season and only see any real forward momentum and emotional realism in the last handful of episodes. The final episode really.  Given that she has her own spinoff with Negan, it makes very little sense and made for an extremely dull first 2/3’s of the season watching them basically meep, meep like the Road Runner on a treadmill going nowhere.
·      About that “heart to heart”—I cannot overstate how much it pains me to call any moment between Maggie and Negan that, especially when the pair most deserving of a bonafide heart to heart only got the skim milk version when they should have gotten the full fat, vitamin D version-- in the final episode, it was overdue and I loved that Maggie didn’t pull any punches with Negan because the man murdered her husband with more glee than most children open presents Christmas morning and that’s saying something.  He can seek redemption all the day long and keep “proving” himself. But does that mean he will ever “deserve” Maggie’s forgiveness?  Personally, I don’t think so and feel it is selfish to want it.  Negan suffering the realization of what he cost Maggie and Hershel frankly isn’t enough, IMHO.  I don’t care how much the fangirls cry about his woobie face.  He’s come a long way and morphed into a character I find multi-faceted and entertaining if not wholly likable during Angela Kang’s tenure and I appreciate that.  But as his exclusion from Team Family’s Thanksgiving-esque feast following their last battle proves at least to me?  He’s a bad man that’s done some good things not a good man that simply lost his way because lovelies?  That road was lost ten thousand detours ago.
·      Random observation.  Or more like questions, lol.  Just who in the hell prepared that big ass feast Team Family enjoyed in the finale to the tune of Stevie Nicks’ Landslide?  Who had the energy?  It couldn’t have been too long after the battle because generally Walker bite victims don’t tend to linger terribly long, unless TIIC threw their usual conventions out the window with Rosita.  Which, come to think of it, wouldn’t be outside the norm.  They’re always changing things to suit their current needs.
 ·      Ah, Rosita. I knew she’d been bitten soon as she fell into that sea of Walkers and the fact she didn’t have any torn or disheveled clothing was an eye-rolling moment for me.  Also that she wasn’t bleeding because that, to me, suggests the bite didn’t break the skin and you know. Maybe I haven’t paid that much attention to all the various Walker bites in the past, sometimes I simply look away because of the gruesomeness of it all, but usually it takes a break in skin for infection to spread.  I guess she got the Bob treatment, come to think of it.
·      All that nitpicking aside, Rosita’s sendoff actually had some very lovely moments.  Once I pushed back on how pissed I was that TIIC were leaving another child motherless.  Were killing a WOC who had only recently enjoyed added dimension in her character and story (although…Rosita, like Carol, seemed be to relocated to the back of the class in Season 11 after having much more impactful screen time in Season 10, a far superior season).  Her goodbye scenes with the people she loved, particularly Eugene, hit hard.  But even those didn’t tug at my heart near as much as her trying to soak up every last second she could of her remaining time with Coco.  That made me ugly cry.
·      Know what made me ugly cry that I was in no way expecting?  Luke’s death scene where Yumiko and Kelly and Magna and Connie were covered in his blood and their tears, sobbing as they fought futilely to save him.  I don’t know. I wasn’t attached to him.  I liked him well enough in the very small doses we got of him.  But I didn’t actually expect to cry over him dying.  Especially since we hadn’t seen him all season and he was obviously brought back to be sacrificed for a bloody death.  Angel Theory, Eleanor Matsuura, Nadia Hilker, and Lauren Ridloff were very convincing in their love and grief for him.
·      Carol and Daryl were no less convincing in their worry for the little Ass Kicker they both love but to be honest?  Judith coming to in the nick of time and finding superheroine strength while being seemingly severely injured (I mean, she had blood coming out of her mouth) to rescue Uncle Daryl in the opening scene took me out of the moment so bad I had a hard time taking the ensuing scenes with her life being in jeopardy seriously. That and she might as well be wearing chain mail because Scott Gimple done fucked up once (and many times afterward, he’s a rambling, riddler of a perpetual fuck up) before by killing Carl and you’d hope AMC would have learned their lesson by now.  I personally think not, but let’s move on from that, m’kay? I’ll address more on the Carol and Daryl front later.  If I do so now, that’ll be all I talk about because I have a lot of feelings.
·      Was Jules’ death a callback to Noah’s in that revolving door because it kind of felt like it?
·      Sorry I’m bouncing around a lot here but these “reviews” of mine are always stream of consciousness and hey.  I’m basically a human Dug, lol.
·      So Daryl wakes up in that hospital bed with a massive shiner and gauze wrapped around his head. How’d he get there?  Who else felt cheated by not getting to bear witness to Carol seeing her Pookie passed out cold on that hospital lobby floor alongside Judith?  Who do you think she went to first?  Judith or Daryl?  Who helped her get them to safety?  She’s the only one that has been shown to have the bare minimum of medical experience and it makes little sense she wasn’t taking lead on amputating Luke’s leg, at the very least assisting; I’m not discounting Connie’s bravery.  Anybody that’s managed to survive in their world and make their disability their “superpower” would have to be, but I don’t see her taking that initiative.  Assisting, yes.  But holding the knife?  No.  Same thing with Kelly.  So that part rang a little false for me but whatever. Anyway.  Don’t you love how we have all these time skips and scene cuts that skip the parts we’re always curious about?  Just me then?  Okay.
·      I can’t be the only person distracted by the increasing visibility of Norman Reedus’s real life tats.  I mean.  Daryl keeps having all this ink showing up, continuity be damned.
·      Carol stroking Judith’s hair while she’s lying on that stretcher makes me wish we’d gotten more scenes of the two of them together.  Maybe one where Judith, missing her mom, asked Aunt Carol to brush her hair at bedtime.  Maybe even braid it.  I mean, they established in one of the earlier eps Carol had been taking care of the kids in Daryl’s absence.  They definitely could have spared a minute or two giving us a heartwarming scene like that to show a few things—how much Carol loves Judith despite trying to keep her somewhat at arms’ length, how very much she still misses Sophia, and where she was sleeping in Daryl’s apartment when he wasn’t there and if she and Dog were still missing him and sharing cuddles.  😉
·      They really missed the boat big time not having Carol help Siddiq in the infirmary at Alexandria.  I mean, sometimes I felt like they were hinting at it.  Remember when Siddiq called Carol on the radio for Ezekiel and Dante answered?  He was like “she’s right here.”  I’ll forgive them not doing more with that though because Season 10 was chockful of Carol and she had so much going on.  I didn’t feel the need to fix-it fic her into the fold because she was quite literally the fabric of the whole season but again.  Let’s not dwell on that because feelings.  I got lots of them.
·      Mercer’s reunion with Princess was cute.  She scaled that big man like a Sequoia, lol.  It reminded me of how much I loved the idea of them earlier in the season.  I really hate they got the fast-forward insta-couple treatment thanks to those oh-so-lovely time jumps and scene cuts because their courtship would have been something else.  Literally so much of Maggie and Negan’s storyline could have been skipped over in favor of them and it wouldn’t have made a damn bit of difference other than the audience actually being more entertained and less exasperated.
·      Okay though. I have to wonder two things about how the fuck Lydia and Aaron came to be back at the Commonwealth.  How in the world did Lydia manage to stay upright much less walk with as much blood loss as she sustained?  Also?  That blood loss had to have her smelling like a Happy Meal to those Walkers.  I mean, logic says so anyway, but I guess we all know logic doesn’t live here in this place.
·      Rosita finding and rescuing Coco and there being a baby each for her, Eugene, and Father Gabriel made me laugh, not gonna lie.
·      The callback to Shane blocking Rick’s door with the stretcher was a nice touch.
·      Come on. Am I the only one LMAO at the obvious doll legs and feet in those shots of Eugene and Father Gabriel climbing that pipe?  I mean, it was definitely distracting.  Again, I ask how the fuck a Walker bit through the thick material of Rosita’s hoodie. It’s not like those assholes have shark teeth.  Oh well, abandoning all measures of believability, I enjoyed how much of a fight Rosita put up and was inwardly cheering her on even as I had to refrain from rolling my eyes.
·      We were robbed of witnessing Carol and Daryl’s reaction to seeing Lydia.  Robbed, I tell you.  Then again, we’ve been straight up pick pocketed all season.
·      Negan looking concerned for Judith and flanking Lydia was an obvious blink and you miss it ploy to remind us he’s not all bad and it worked a tiny smidgen because JDM’s a softie with kids.
·      I love that Aaron has come around where Lydia’s concerned.  She’s a sweetheart of a kid that deserves all the love and Aaron has a lot of love to give at his core and experience with the situation she’s now in but dammit.  Carol was right there and Melissa and Cassady would have literally brought us to our knees with nothing more than another tearful  hug to mirror their last embrace.  Why AMC?  Why?
·      Gimple’s version of Negan could never.  That apology was a long damn time coming.  Long damn time.
·      Finally, I don’t feel resentment towards Eugene’s scenes this episode.  Like for so very much of this season, Eugene and Maggie have been Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, gobbling up all the airtime with stories we felt no emotional connection to or were just tired of hearing about because nothing novel happened but in this episode?  They were stripped down to the heart of the matter.  Somewhere along the way I fell a little bit in love with Eugene’s friendship with Rosita.  I never expected to.  There was an ick/cringe factor in the very early days.  That changed about the time Rosita firmly friend-zoned him.  I felt sympathy for the guy then even as I cheered Rosita on for saying the words he needed to hear.  So him sussing out the truth of Rosita being bitten and her reaction to that?  It broke my heart more than I ever thought it would.  Their “I love you’s” were sweet and made me tear up and they were shaded so much differently than another pair of “I love you’s” that touched a nerve with a certain faction of fandom.  I bet you can all guess who I’m talking about without my naming names.  😉.  I mean, it’s not the first time the two relationships have been in direct juxtaposition with each other, demonstrating the true differences between platonic and romantic love.
·      The silent look that passed between Daryl and Carol as they sat vigil at Judith’s beside was intense and full of all the things they’ve never dared speak between them. No two do it better than Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus and that’s 100% fact.  That said, the time for their long, long, long overdue “heart to heart” should have been right there in that very moment.  Or at least the beginning of it.  Because all that chilly distance Daryl’s been keeping between them all season melted with that look at her.  He already knew his feelings.  He tried to tell her then show her why it wasn’t like that before the cave in.  And being faced again with the fragility and brevity of the one life they’re given?  It just seemed like the perfect time for confessions to be made, even if they were in the form of a simple “I can’t lose you” echoed back to Carol this time. For apologies to be spoken and accepted. But the lazy AMC scribes relied on the power and magic of Melissa and Norman’s chemistry to do all the work for them like they have basically all season and seriously.  Fuck that.  Those intense gazes have lit me on fire each and every time all season but goddammit. We’re past time for words here. They’re the OGs.  The OG ship.  The ship to end all ships on TWD whether some people want to admit it or not. The least they warrant is an actual honest conversation where they stop dancing around the hot pink elephant in the room—they are in fucking love, your honor.  Anyway.  Let me nudge these thoughts along before I write ten more pages about that.
·      Carol’s stroking Judith’s hair again and I can’t help feeling that the walls she’d erected around her heart to protect herself after losing Lizzie/Mika/Carl/Henry started melting like an ice cream cone on a hot summer’s day because she hasn’t been shown to be that tactile with Judith since the Grove.  In that respect, what comes later, her staying to help care for the kids, isn’t as much a WTF moment as it could have been.
 ·      The ensuing moment, however?  Judith’s comment to Daryl—“Sorry I didn’t tell you before.  I was scared that you would leave, too” and Daryl’s response of “I’m right here” definitely adds to the WTFuckery of Daryl’s ultimate exit.
·      Ezekiel’s pontificating is an obvious setup for what comes next for him.  And like, it’s been obvious all season.  But I will say this.  I personally resent the fuck out of him leapfrogging Mercer, a figure that’s already been established to have celebrity status with the people of the Commonwealth, someone that’s been there since the beginning, and having a leadership position. Their positions should have been switched but again.  Logic has no rightful home in this place.
·      It’s the small things.  Carol and Daryl barely letting each other out of sight the whole episode makes my heart sing.
·      Father Gabriel letting the people inside the walls, especially after the way he was introduced, really makes it strike home how much he’s changed.
·      There would have been something poetic about Walker Lance ending Pamela, not gonna lie. But then we wouldn’t have gotten Carol being Queen of Sass with her so.
·      Okay. The scene where they’re trying to corral all the Walkers to end them should leave me with more than the thought of “Wow, what a waste of all that fuel, it’s not like there’s an endless supply.” It was anticlimactic but whatever. I’m not here for the fights or explosions or the damn zombies.  They could have mentioned it in a line of dialogue and I would have been largely satisfied at this point because we’ve lost so much time this season with so many characters.  Carol was criminally underutilized until 11C.  I’ll never forgive TIIC for that.  Ever.
·      “We already had to make an ugly decision.  Kept you alive.” LMAO, I love it when Carol’s a savage queen.  “…At least we don’t have to worry about who gets your house.”
·      Glenn was beautiful, Maggie.  So beautiful. I still miss my baby.
·      The scene between Maggie and Negan where she tells him she can’t forgive him? It is literally the best scene Maggie has had all season.  I don’t want to remember Glenn like that either.
·      Who cooked a Thanksgiving feast?  Who?
·      Eugene watching Rosita with Coco.  Mercer and Princess cuddled up.  Carol smiling and laughing.  Dog. All to the tune of Landslide.  My heart is so full.
·      Rosita watching it all and confessing to Father Gabriel about being bitten with Judith noticing had me teary again and I’ve always been in the WTF camp with Rosita and Gabriel.  Cailey’s little face, though.  The child has a bright future.
·      Carol and Maggie helping Rosita to bed and saying their goodbyes.  The way Rosita seemed to squeeze Carol a little extra hard. I mean, everybody seems to just sink into a Carol hug and I’m pretty sure that’s all thanks to Melissa.  Wouldn’t you?  I know I would.
·      “We’ll see you again someday.”  When Father Gabe said that to Rosita, I let out a little sob and I never liked them as a ship.  I was full on crying when Rosita told Eugene she was glad it was him with her in the end.
·      Another fucking time jump.  When will they ever end?
·      Eugene and Max naming their baby Rosie was a sweet touch.
·      I still can’t get over them making Ezekiel Governor instead of second in command to Mercer.
·      Sounds like Daryl and Connie only see each other when he visits the different communities. I have many words for that but I won’t say them, lol.
  ·      Lydia looks happy.  She deserves it.
·      Negan giving Judith her compass back—I’d honestly forgotten she gave it to him, it feels like forever ago.  So I’m guessing he finally left like Carol tried to get him to when Maggie first returned. That’s what I got out of that scene anyway.
·      They didn’t show us the whole memorial wall so all I can see is what looks like NIE, but I’m guessing Annie and the baby didn’t make it.  Which is honestly too bad.  In spite of her convenient insta-existence, I liked her.
  ·      So. This time jump starts at the Commonwealth, goes to Alexandria where we see Carol with her beautiful short curls and the kids are there.  The way Gracie greets Judith makes it plain Judith and RJ aren’t at Alexandria anymore. Carol’s little running hug of Aaron is adorable.  Lydia and Elijah seem to go back and forth between the communities.  Carol and Daryl, too, as evidenced by them traveling from Alexandria to Hilltop.  Sorry for the run-on, thinking out loud commentary, lol.  I’m just trying to piece everything together.
·      Oh my heart. There’s no longer distance or the symbolism of distance between Carol and Daryl.  They’re on the same side of the river, literally side by side.  I mean, they’ve been that way the whole episode but this is different and you all know why.
·      Can’t help being a little resentful of Maggie’s talk about the future that leads Daryl away from Carol’s side.  Because ugh. All that talk of “we have a future” and him spending chunks of it away from her.  Ugh.  Did I say that already?  I don’t care.
·      Carol saying it’s a beautiful day to head out and Daryl looking right at her as he agrees. I’m crying.
·      Nowhere in the fuck of ever has Carol expressed any interest in having Hornsby’s job so fuck whoever decided to retcon that into the narrative.
·      “It’s not like we’ve never gonna see each other again.”  But can you promise that, Daryl?  Can you?  Tomorrow isn’t promised.  The world is shit sometimes.  I hate TIIC for separating them and for why?  Why?  I know why, spinoff reasons, but narratively why?  Make it make sense.  You cannot. It’s not like he’s going out to look for Rick and Michonne because a year has passed and it’s apparent he hasn’t ventured all that much further than their established communities. He’s been out “in the frontier” but not so far out that he and Carol and the kids don’t have regular contact.
·      So.  They left Hilltop and went back to the Commonwealth? Did Carol ride home with him on his bike?  Did the kids take a wagon or train?  Somebody explain this to me like I’m 5 years old, please.  I can’t help thinking she clung to him on the bike ride home, neither one of them really talking about what Maggie proposed because they didn’t want goodbye to be even closer and then they had that emotional talk by the river and oh my heart.  It hurts. It hurts.  It hurts.
·      They’re beautiful.  I love them. Now and forever.
·      So what? Are the kids staying with Ezekiel now? Aunt Carol?  I’m a little lost.
·      Judith promising to keep an eye on Dog and Daryl having her promise to keep an eye on Carol.  He loves her so much.  It’s almost like…you know what?  I swear to god if they went canon off-screen and had their first kiss and everything but exchanged those three words…
·      Judith looking at Aunt Carol while telling Daryl he deserves a happy ending too is obviously a subtlety lost on a certain faction of shippers and I cannot fathom why because it is so very loud, lol.
·      The fact that Judith called him Daryl instead of Uncle Daryl makes me think he’s still involved in their lives and loves them very much but he’s not involved in their everyday lives and he’s distancing himself from them.  Then again, it could just be that Judith’s growing up because Cailey has grown so very much since she first started the show.
·      Speaking of growing up, dwell on this little nugget.  Daryl’s been in Judith’s life from the start.  Rick was only there for maybe the first 3 years.  Like the man has missed the entirety of RJ’s life and the majority of Judith’s and then they had Michonne leave them basically searching for a needle in a haystack, no guarantee she’d ever find him or make it back to them, and now she’s missed what?  Almost 2 years of those babies’ lives?  I know the storyline was steered a certain way because of Danai’s exit from the show but it will never sit well with me that a woman, fictional though she may be, would ever leave her children to go on a search that might lead to absolutely nothing in such a dangerous world.  Especially with her history of losing Andre.  By the time Michonne (and Rick) makes it back, those kids could be half grown and that’s sad AF.
·      That hug between Ezekiel and Daryl was a weird touch but hey.  Maybe they’ve made their peace with each other and their respective places in Carol’s life.
·      I mean, Ezekiel took those kids with him to give Daryl some privacy saying goodbye to her so.
·      Carol waiting by Daryl’s bike.  😊 ☹.  She’s never shied away from showing Daryl affection in the past.  Pre the Prison falling.  She’s been more reticent and careful since then unless they’ve embraced.  Then she’s clung to him like a lifeline she never wants to let go of.  The way she fusses over him and his poncho seems domestic AF and like something a wife would do.  Plus, it’s giving her a reason not to look directly into his eyes because she doesn’t want to risk falling apart like she did a little bit at the riverside.  Honestly it feels like she’s trying desperately not to ask him to stay.  With her.
·      Daryl telling Carol he loves her is a huge deal. HUGE.  Carol saying it back to him is just as big because Lizzie is the only person we’ve ever heard her say it to.  And look.  I think she is trying to inject some lightness into a heavy moment because despite what she said to him while they were sitting on that bench?  She doesn’t want him to go. He doesn’t want to leave her. He looks like he wants to change her mind before he rides off.  She wants to make it easier for him and I want to die.
·      I don’t think anything will ever hurt me as bad as watching him ride off without her. FUCK AMC for that.  Because it didn’t have to be that way, solo spinoff or not.  They could have still left together.  They could have shared those “I love you’s” and a kiss 12 years in the making.  If this episode wasn’t a springboard for the spinoffs like Gimple claimed it wasn’t?  Why not give us and them the whole enchilada?  It’s been more than earned.  They could have gone all in on them, finally made clear that they were IN LOVE, had them leave TOGETHER, and then cut to a shot where Daryl wakes up somewhere by himself and calls out her name or vice versa.  Same result.  Still painful AF to think of them spending any time apart.  But not without hope because they weren’t separated willingly or by some asinine reason that wasn’t even explicitly spoken.  But I guess we all know why AMC didn’t do that, don’t we?
·      UGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.
·      I’m not going to say too much about that coda.  It was bad.  The clips of dearly departed characters, though.  The clips of all the people they and we loved and them saying “we’re the ones that live”?  Those parts struck a chord and made my heart swell with remembered love for this show. They’re the parts that gave me chills. The other parts were dramatic but meh. Otherwise, I think having Rick’s voice crackle over a walkie talkie or just getting a glimpse of his silhouette or even having him wake up in a hospital bed again a la the very first episode would have been much more effective and not locked them into anything so far as the spinoff goes or given too much away.  But that’s just me.  Your mileage may very well vary.  I did find it fitting it ending with that shot of Judith and RJ.  So there’s that.
·      Anywho. Those are just some of my thoughts and there’s a lot of them but this is just the tip of the iceberg.  I won’t bore you with anymore tonight, lol.  Er, this morning.  Happy Thanksgiving, lovelies.  I’m headed to catch a few hours’ sleep.

My list of fics
I have watched 911 Lonestar for years. I have always had many ideas for fanfics but have always been very insecure about publishing them. The fourth season gave me great inspiration and I started writing and had the courage to publish my first story just before the season finale.
I am very proud that I had the courage to put myself out there, and deal with people's reception to my ideas and writing.
Then I've decided to put my list of fics here, in case you want to spend some of your time reading and making me the happiest person in the world!
1. Wedding Conversations
Let's just say no one in this family has the best skills when it comes to communication. They have several overdue conversations and in true Lone Star style of leaving things to talk at the worst possible times, TK and Carlos' wedding becomes an ideal moment for everyone.
What's better than never talking, right?
Note: I love this one, because I wrote this before knowing Gabriel would not be in the wedding, so in my version, he is and he takes time to talk with his son.
2. The best of man (a 4x18 coda)
During his honeymoon with TK, at a very special moment, Carlos gets some much-needed closure.
3. Almost
As TK and Carlos complete three months of marriage, the police officer decides that a celebration is in order and also a very special thanks to the man who saved his life in so many different ways.
4. The second proposal
After Carlos proposes to TK, both grooms talk about everything that has happened and recommit to the postponed marriage.
5. There is no forgetting
Six months after all the events involving the death of Gabriel, strange things begin to happen involving Carlos and so the officer ends up compulsorily thrown back into the investigation of his father's death.

Merchant, Marine: We’re All Free
“Ala Gannha.” Stamp, slide, shuffle. “Ala Ghiri.” Shuffle, shuffle. “Gannha again…” Stamp, stamp. “Ala Mhigan Quarter.” Shuffle. A pause. “The Saltery? Thought it was a ruin. Calling back old families, I suppose.” A final shuffle.
Ulf Hartsblood set the stack of completed requests to the right side of his desk, and in so doing he created a terrible asymmetry. On the left, the stack of incomplete requests still remained; he had brought them all to his offices on the island proper, in the hopes that the number of them would represent the importance of the matter. Upon comparing the sizes of both, what he found instead was only a sense of how much damned paperwork he had yet to do. Necessary, of course. Vital to the continued functioning of the Immersabilis and the Firmitas. But still a damned great lot of stamping to be done.
He rubbed his temples as he leaned back into his seat. As a Pilus, the administrative work always held a certain tension that made it tolerable. The wrong word in the right place would pull his cohort into an official’s political games. It was no more enjoyable, but at least the importance of it was more tangible, more fraught. In the peace of Gloam, with no threats but the disappointment of the men and the risk of a tongue-lashing from Balther Wright for filing improperly, that importance seemed distant.
He flipped open one of the approved requests to Ala Gannha, lips pursing as he browsed the contents. While technically skilled, the common soldiers of Garlemald and its territories were no more likely to be lettered than any other man; in the Empire, requests from the ranks were often dictated to Optio who could shape them into more palatable forms. Lacking that, he received missives more like the following:
If it pleezes the Pilus I wuld like veri much to go to Gannha, wyf an brodr stil ther, to see them safe an bryng them hom. Names ar
And as simply as that, he was reminded of the importance of the matter. He closed the request and put it back in its place.
“You’re still at it, then?” The question came as his office door was opened. Ulf had few complaints about intruders in Gloam; everybody made a point of getting to know everybody, because if one mutinied against Garlemald at the same time and place as others were mutinying against Limsa Lominsa and nearly escaped total destruction by only the finest hair, one tended to get to know one’s immediate companions quite well. Besides, he recognized the voice, and the current Speaker of the island was always welcome.
“As I will be through the rest of the cycle,” he said, gesturing to the size of the stack on the left. “The whole crew clamor for it. It’s not a matter of not allowing it, isn’t it? Just sorting through who can go and at what times to keep everything up and running at more than a skeleton crew’s efficiency.” He took hold of the stack, and feigned a pushing motion. “If I could send them all at once, I would. And then what happens when some raiders come calling, Mr. Sawyer?”
Everard Sawyer didn’t seem bothered by the scenario; he only shrugged, and pushed a bit of stringy red hair out of the way of his glasses. “Then the Tumult and the Lucky Lord get to raise their banners and take charge for a few moons. Slaeglac does have the odd moment of restlessness, you know. And there’s far less chance of Garlean fleets from the east now. So if you wanted to, well.”
“And then what of the submersibles? We need the Immersabilis to ply the waters, at the very least, and enough men on the Firmitas to keep it maintained.” Private whale-ships. Ulf had been stunned when a cargo vessel had brought news of those. Virgil’s toy was exactly as revolutionary as he’d thought it would be.
Sawyer seemed to concede the point with a bob of his head. “Not all, then, but most. And then the ones that get left behind might resent it, and . . . “ He trailed off, following Ulf’s presumed logic to its conclusion. “Fair enough, I suppose. Are they going to be coming back?”
“That is what most of them would have me believe. Nearly all, if you asked me to estimate, and their families with them once they’re found.” The spouses and siblings and children of four-hundred and some soldiers. Ulf had been dreading the math of this. The treaty guaranteeing their sovereignty had particular stipulations - the first of which being to turn away further expatriates until their population fell below certain limits. Two exceptions had been made - for the families of the Ala Mhigans and pirates on the island, and two others. “Do we have the room? We’ve the right, I know, but the room?”
“Of course.” Sawyer looked surprised at the question. “Slaeglac planned this around far more of his comrades arriving than proved to be the case. It may put us close to what the island can support, but the crops have been fine, the gil has been fine - yes, we have the room and the right. Tell them that - or I can tell them if you prefer.” He thumbed over his shoulder. “But we need to talk about this later, you know? You ought prepare yourself.”
“There isn’t anything special about - “ Ulf began, then started up in his seat, eyes widening. “The Halberd?”
“Coming in today,” Sawyer said. “Sail sighted a bell ago, and should be in the harbor in another.”
“I’ll be at the dock in half that.”
Gloam was never a picturesque island, nor would it ever be so. The weather was prone to fog, and the refinement of ceruleum that was ensuring the island’s import and income alike tended to give the air a faintly blue quality; it was nothing like the more elaborate facilities of Thanalan, but instead made it seem as if the sky was occasionally falling apart around the inhabitants, slowly drifting into shreds. There had been trees, but many were gone save at the island’s fringes, cut down for lumber and to clear land for farming, which almost redeemed the rest by its organization according to Gridanian principles of agriculture. But not quite.
The buildings in the island’s interior had been haphazardly placed, and were now a mixture of the Garlean steel gifted to Slaeglac to begin his grand plan and more traditional buildings cut out of the lumber available on the island itself. There were fewer homes than residents, as many of the pirates preferred to stay on their ships, and the Ala Mhigans on their own vessels. A town center had appeared by accident rather than intent as a larger empty space appeared between a few buildings, and this was occupied solely by a pair of small monuments, hewn roughly out of rock. One bore the rude inscription “For them what made it an them what dint” on its face, surrounded by the sigils of several pirate vessels, former and otherwise, and the marking of the former Special Expeditionary Cohort of Garlemald among them. On the second rock, a similar inscription: “For them what saved us.” This was surrounded by sigils as well, from a smattering of Maelstrom vessels, official privateers of Limsa, and what appeared to be the sigil of a Lalafellin trimaran.
Nobody on the island was artistically inclined, by the look of it. But nobody had suggested improving upon them either.
The island’s natural harbor was small, rocky, and sheltered, concealed from easy observation at sea by the good fortune of its mouth facing the Rothlyt Sound. The smaller vessels of the ex-privateers sheltered there without incident; so too did trading vessels under the banner of the Eglantine family, now serviced and loaded at the newly constructed dock. Larger ships were forced to row inside once past the mouth, and the Firmitas never entered, lazily rotating its position outside the island to avoid letting unknowing onlookers get too curious about what in the hells that floating gunship platform could have been doing right there in the Sea of Jade.
Yet for all its practical difficulties and aesthetic failings, nearly a year of quiet had been kind to the island, or at least to its people. They had found that, contrary to their expectations, running an island after it had been founded was easier than founding it, because nobody was trying very hard to kill them while they were going about the business of running it. The odd pirate vessel tried to poke at what it thought to be easy prey, and was soon seen off in one form or another. Garlemald had other revolutions to fear. And the Ninth Squadron of the Maelstrom knew the island, knew it well, and kept its distance.
Today was the exception. The squadron flagship, the Halberd, was a Limsan war galleon of considerable size, and could go no further than past the mouth of the island. This was no burden upon the vessel, which dropped anchor and released one of its ship’s boats with but a few occupants to row the remaining distance to the dock.
And there, waiting at the dock, was Gloam. All of it, in one form or another. The pirates and expatriates who had taken their families and tried to find a different kind of freedom, intermingled with once-Garleans, now Ala Mhigans who had tried to use them, and instead found them allies. And there, in front of them, the captains who had led them into folly and had somehow come out of it fortunate. The plan had been to have a simple meeting and exchange, once notice had been sent to the island from Limsa, but a small place and a small people meant no secret went hidden for very long.
Slaeglac fidgeted with his attire. The old Sea Wolf was never one for a fine dress uniform, and he’d had to make do with the nicer clothes he’d managed to take with him on his initial voyage out to the island over a year ago. He’d made sure to wash them, at least. But his hands still drifted to the single sahagin tooth he wore around his neck to keep them busy rather than fuss with his attire.
“It looks fine, Captain,” said Sawyer at his position beside the man, in the center of the island’s leaders, such as they were.
“Just m’name,” said Slaeglac. “You’re Speaker, so just m’name.”
“True. Still your first mate, though. And what if they vote you in next season?”
“Swore that’d never happen an’ you know it.”
“They could overrule you. Insist you owe it. Part of your service to them.”
Slaeglac scowled. “Tryin’ t’kill me, Sawyer? Betrayal at long last?”
Chuckling, Sawyer patted the man’s arm. “No, Slaeglac. Likely it’ll be one of the Duskwights to oversee the crops.”
The Sea Wolf’s scowl remained, and he examined the rest of the leadership. He took some comfort in knowing his fellow Limsan captains were just as uncomfortable. Hannah Half-Gil of the Lucky Lord seemed as ill-suited as he, and Aerstbhar of the Dodo’s Wail was lost without his books to distract him. Ulf, more accustomed to military meetings, seemed the most comfortable of the lot of them, and damn the fellow for it. Though, truly, Slaeglac would never damn the fellow at all.
The ship’s boat became more than an outline, made itself into a shape, took on definition, and reached the dock. Its occupants climbed up a rope ladder, save one, who had to be pulled. “Swive me,” said Hannah, her voice low. “That’s really him, innit? Blessed bastard to make it out in less’n a year.”
“Too popular, I heard,” whispered Slaeglac in response. “Too big a cause back home. Better to give ‘im up than keep ‘im and risk more trouble, y’know?”
“About time they held up their end,” said Aerstbhar. “The deal was only half-done until then.”
“Quiet.” Ulf’s voice was short and sharp. “They approach.”
It was a small group indeed, no more than the captain of the vessel, two guards, and one man in chains. The leaders of Gloam were familiar enough with the captain, who had been on hand to finalize the treaty, but nearly all had never laid eyes on the prisoner before. Despite his shackles, neither of his keepers seemed concerned with keeping a close eye on him, on giving him the chance of escape, perhaps because he did not seem fit enough for the task. There were few who spent time in a prison hulk who would.
The captain, a Sea Wolf woman of green hue, dark hair, and tall disposition for her kind, offered a Maelstrom salute. “Captain Torrael Wanngeimdottir, requesting transfer of a prisoner to the custody of Gloam.”
The group looked among each other. There had been some debate, but they had settled on Sawyer, as the current Speaker, to approach. He stepped forward and returned her gesture, though far more informally. “Speaker Everard Sawyer. I accept your request. Please transfer the prisoner to our custody.”
Torrael turned her head, and nodded to the guards. They took care in unlocking the man’s shackles; hundreds of pairs of eyes were upon them, and whatever roughness they might have had softened in that scrutiny.
Rubbing his wrists, the prisoner gave Torrael a questioning glance. She offered only a curt nod of encouragement. He took his first free steps in over a year, until he stood between she and Sawyer.
“You are Dominic Morris?” Sawyer asked.
The prisoner opened his mouth, spoke in a scratching squawk, cleared it, and spoke again. “Th-that I am.”
“Mutineer of the Maiden’s Wound?”
Dominic managed a rueful smile beneath a heavy beard. “So the courts declared.”
Sawyer scrutinized the man as if there were defects in his statements or flaws, as if he might be an impostor. There was little sense in Limsa sending a false prisoner when they had already sent over the other, but past experience had shown them willing to renege in very serious ways. If there was any test -
The rapid patter of boots on the dock behind them caught Sawyer’s attention. He did not have time to turn behind him before a Midlander of somewhat small stature had broken through the crowd, past the assembled leaders of Gloam, and captured Dominic in as tight a hug as she could manage without toppling him. Astri Striker clung to him with no words (for she had no words) and muted sobs (for they were all muted).
If there was any test, Sawyer finished, that was it. “We accept custody of Dominic Morris, Captain Torrael,” he said, drawing her attention away from the embrace and trying to put her guards at ease. “We thank you for your visit. Please give the Commodore our regards.”
Torrael could not help an amused smirk. “The Second Commander,” she said, stressing the lower rank, “Is on assignment with the Alliance. I shall be sure to pass along your words when next I see him.” She saluted once more. “Our business is concluded. Permission to disembark.” “Granted,” said Sawyer, but it was only halfway-said. His attention had turned to Morris, who now found himself warily surrounded by the captains. None seemed willing to pry Astri away for fear of losing a digit.
“They’re not, are they?” said Hannah.
“Man nearly went to the noose for her an’ all. Not sure what that is, but it’s somethin’,” said Slaeglac. He diplomatically patted Morris on the shoulder, getting his attention rather than hers. “Good t’have you. Word is you’re something of a ‘jolly sailor’, at least as we’ve heard. We’ll just, ah, talk more about it once you’re unlatched.”
The exchange ended, the parties drifted away. The captain returned to her vessel, the leaders to the dock. Astri’s embrace had ended any chance of solemnity on their part, and as he was escorted into the island, he was all but devoured in their joy, the only one among them who was no mutineer, and the one who had suffered the most for it, among their numbers at last.
And later in the night, Astri composed a letter in the shaky hand she had been taught the year before, as she did every moon for when the trading vessels docked to take ceruleum and the post. And, as always, there was the same phrase before she moved on to the news of the moon, but slightly amended for the first time and every time thereafter:
Dear Mr. Vashir,
We’re all free.

15x14 coda: it’s a date!
1k of fluff, read on AO3 here
Jack is finally in his room, after four slices of cake that Dean had watched him devour with increasing pride, when Dean crosses his arms and leans against the wall, turning to Sam. “So… How was your date?”
“Really, Dean? That’s what you're concerned about? After we all almost died?”
Dean waggles his eyebrows. “Well, yeah. Just looking out for my little brother.”
The bunker door clangs open, and Sam shoves Dean towards it. “Maybe worry about yourself.”
Dean flips Sam off before turning his attention to the door, his eyes catching on the swirl of tan that follows Cas as he makes his way down the staircase.
“Hey, stranger.” Dean’s throat is suddenly dry.
“Hello, Dean,” Cas says in his soothingly familiar way.
Dean sees Sam leave out of the corner of his eye, so he walks forward and wraps Cas in a hug. “I missed you,” he mumbles into Cas’s ear, tugging on his trench coat.
“I would rather have been here than in Heaven, trust me.”
“Well, you didn’t miss very much.”
Cas hums. “Somehow I doubt that.”
Dean laughs and tugs Cas towards the kitchen. “Maybe just a little.”
Dean flicks on the light, steering Cas to the table. He runs a hand through his hair. “I know your grace has been kind of wonky lately... I was thinking you might be able to taste more than molecules now? Thought I could make you supper, or something.”
Cas raises his eyebrows. “Or something, hmm?”
The tips of Dean’s ears turn red. “Shut up. Now I’m not even going to ask you what you want.”
Dean glances back at Cas, sitting at the table with his hands folded together. Dean throws a dish towel at him, but Cas catches it, because he is generally infuriating. Dean turns around and grumbles to himself, getting out the tomatoes he blanched and peeled in a moment of hope. If Sam was going to go on his date, Dean needed something to keep himself busy, and the thought of Cas returning was distracting enough, to say the least.
Dean’s not even really sure what Cas was off doing. What did the other angels have to offer? There’s, what, eight of them left? But, whatever, Dean’s not here to stand in the way of Cas doing what he wants; he’s only here to tell him when his ideas were dumb.
He does just that, and Cas scowls.
“What am I supposed to do, Dean? Just sit here and watch the world end? I have to try.”
Dean softens. “I know you do, buddy.”
Cas’s frown deepens, and he sighs, drumming his fingers on the table.
“It’s going to have to simmer, so cool your jets. It’s going to be a minute.”
“That’s not… Why do you insist on calling me buddy?”
“What?” Dean’s hands pause in adding spices to his pot of tomatoes.
“Why do you insist on calling me buddy?” Cas repeats.
“Are we not friends?” Dean asks in his most affronted voice, but he knows what Cas is trying to say. He wants to hear it anyway.
Cas’s chair scrapes the ground as he stands up and walks right into Dean’s bubble. Dean resolutely stares into his pot of sauce, because even though he wants to hear it, he doesn’t particularly want to look too desperate. He grabs a spoon and dips it in, offering it to Cas. “Tell me what it needs?”
Cas takes the spoon and licks the sauce, never breaking eye contact with Dean. Dean tries not to sweat.
“Tastes good to me,” Cas says.
“Yeah?” Dean’s eyes dart to Cas’s lips.
“Yes,” Cas breathes, and closes the remainder of the distance between them.
Dean finds himself in one of the gentlest kisses he’s ever had, harkening back to memories of first kisses and times when he didn’t have the weight of the world on his shoulders, if there was ever such a thing.
Dean finds his arms wrapping around Cas of their own volition, and the kiss deepens until Dean has to extricate himself so the sauce doesn’t burn.
He stirs it and looks back at Cas. “So…”
“That was extremely overdue,” Cas says, eyebrows raised and daring Dean to disagree.
Dean gives his sauce another stir, emotions swirling in his gut that almost cause him to drop his wooden spoon. “You’re right.”
“What? What was that? It can’t be Dean Winchester admitting I’m right.”
Dean laughs, his nerves sinking beneath everything else he’s feeling at the knowledge that nothing has changed, not really. “Don’t be a little shit.”
Cas grins at him, his eyes bunching up at the corners, and Dean’s heart twists painfully. “The sauce needs to simmer for a bit, but I have something else for you.”
“Oh?” Cas tugs Dean closer by his flannel.
“Not like that,” Dean says in exasperation, batting Cas’s hands away. “It’s been two minutes, and you already can’t drag yourself away from me, jeez.”
“I’d never willingly leave you, Dean,” Cas says earnestly, and that’s just a little too much for Dean right now.
“Okay, Debbie Downer, sheesh. C’mere.”
Dean beckons Cas to the fridge, where he pulls out a tupperware container and cracks the lid, presenting it to Cas. “Happy birthday.”
Cas squints. “I was created before the concept of days came into being.”
“Now you’re just doing that on purpose.”
Cas cracks a half smile at him. “Thank you.”
Dean shrugs. “We sort of… realized we hadn't been celebrating everything we should have been. I think you’re worth celebrating, even if you’re older than birthdays.”
“That’s very thoughtful of you. I’m sorry I missed it.”
“Yeah, me, too. You’re not allowed to leave anymore.”
Cas tugs Dean into another kiss, putting down the cake and backing Dean up until he’s against the fridge, and there’s warmth pressing against him from both sides.
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Yeah, you better,” Dean says, but they both know it’s a halfhearted threat at best. “I don’t know what I’d do without you. And, hey, I shouldn’t have to find out, right?”
“I think angels generally have a longer life expectancy than humans, yes,” Cas says, but he looks upset and Dean curses himself for bringing it up. If Cas feels even half of the things for Dean as Dean does for him, Dean knows exactly how that thought could be distressing.
“Hey.” Dean hooks his fingers underneath Cas’s chin, making him look back up at him. “Good luck to anything that tries to keep us apart. Not on my watch, okay?”
Cas takes a deep breath and gives Dean a watery smile. “Okay.”
-
Sam comes to a dead stop in the hallway. “Is that a hickey?” he asks Dean incredulously. “Guess that answers the question of how your date went, then.”

Alright you guys this turned into an absolute monster of a fic rec. It’s organised by word count in descending order, and ALL FICS HAVE A HAPPY ENDING!! i don’t read fics that don’t end happy so even if a fic seems scary you can rest assured it ends fine if it’s here.
Special shoutout to @thisissirius (same ao3 handle) and @getbvcked (attolians (annber) on ao3) i have all their fics bookmarked so i didn’t include them individually in this list but you should check them out because every fic they put out is amazing.
the rest is under the cut:
Breaking and Entering by AngelCuttingOnions (g/1k): Have you ever been terrified to lose something that isn’t even yours? Digging helplessly at the mud with your bare hands, so determined not to let go, not to give up. Your heart going so fast you think it might just beat out of your chest.
in any place you'll allow by barelyprolific (m/1k): Cleaning duty has never looked as good as Evan Buckley waxing floors.Or, Eddie Diaz finally makes his move.
Care and Keeping by BlackRose (m/1k): Eddie's alive, but he almost wasn't. Buck's determined to keep him safe now more than ever. Eddie, wants Buck to feel seen.
Cool for the Summer by Onlymystory (e/1k): Buck comes over to apologize to Eddie. It's a very good apology.
fireworks have nothing on you by inkandella (nr/1k): Buck’s tears had dried not too long ago, but his hands still shook as he wrung them. Bobby had just left to deal with, well, everything, but Buck remained by the truck, refusing to drag his eyes from Eddie for even a second. Eventually it was just Hen and Chim that remained, and Buck could finally see Eddie clearly. The man’s face was streaked with mud, dirt, and blood, his shoulders were bowed and eyes stared blankly off somewhere ahead of him. Buck bit his lips, but it didn’t really help him from asking again. “Is he okay?”Or; Buck finally does something about it.
Hotel Complaints and Grievances Raised by asexual-fandom-queen (m/2k): After a night out with the 118, Eddie wakes up with Buck naked in bed, and a barrage of feelings to face.
fight so dirty/love so sweet by homewrecker (m/2k): Buck and Eddie go for the title.
YOUR MOUTH IS HEAVEN by AgnesClementine (t/2k): A tongue piercing. Buck has a tongue piercing. Which is fine. Totally fine. Eddie is absolutely not going to lose sleep because of that information.
Zoom Into My Heart by Shaniamr (m/2k): Buck didn't know that zoom shared your private chats at the end of the meeting, but he's about to find out.
collisions in the dark by Marcia Elena (marciaelena) (e/2k): Eddie and Christopher spend the night at Buck's. Coda to 3x09.
What do you need? by RealOrFiction (e/2k): Buck has needs. Needs that haven't been met in a while.
Great Game by LovelyLittleGrim (e/2k): Buck’s watching him, waiting for some type of response. “Scared, Diaz?”“I don’t have any reason to be scared, Buckley.” He meets Buck’s eyes, lips quirked and murmurs, “I always come out on top.”
Buck Wild by Ithinkwehaveanemergency (m/2k): Eddie accidentally finds out that his best friend, coworker, and secret crush has done gay porn.
no greater joy by elisela (g/2k): When he wakes again, he finds Buck and Christopher out in the backyard, snuggled into the hammock that Buck had brought over months earlier, the day after Christopher had offhandedly mentioned that he’d been in one during a camping trip once and liked it. Buck was fooling no one when he said he’d happened to find it in storage, and Eddie had helped him set it up immediately, basking in the second-hand glow of Buck’s complete adoration of his son.
No Rest for the Wicked by Wassereis (e/2k): Eddie gets home early. What he finds wasn't what he expected.
people who love the same by templemarker (t/2k): Buck was just reheating a plate for Eddie when he heard a very familiar snort behind him."Okay, what now," he said expectantly."So," Hen drawled, "you have one plate on the counter, steaming, already had a couple of bites. And now you've got a second plate," she gestured at the microwave to the reheating lasagne, "and we all know who that plate's for."Buck looked at her, tilting his head. "I mean, I always make a plate for Eddie," he said, confused.
One Week by elisela (g/3k): Christopher's week revolves around Buck.
wherever I'm with you by anonymous (g/3k): In which Buck can't settle down in his own apartment until he realizes the true meaning of the word home.Or; Sleeping is easier when it's with Eddie.
To Be Whole by mansikka (t/3k): They say that when you and your soulmate are ready to meet, whatever they write on their skin will appear on yours, and vice versa. Which Buck thinks is bullshit. Right up until words start appearing on his arm.
Pull The Pin by islandgirl (g/3k): Everything they've been feeling and not saying is like a grenade between them and damn it all, Buck is ready to pull the pin, let the explosion happen and for everything to fall into place.
Long Overdue by mansikka (m/3k): Eddie realizes his feelings for Buck are more than platonic; what's he supposed to do now?
you could write this love in stone by chocolatebirdie (nr/4k): "Whatever happens, after tonight, I just want you to know that your friendship has meant everything to me. You’re my best friend, Eddie. You and Chris are – are like family to me. And I’m really grateful to have met you both.”“Why does this sound like you’re breaking up with me?” Eddie asks. The confusion-amusement ratio has started to skew towards the former, with an added dose of concern. Well maybe if he’d shut up and let Buck talk, Eddie wouldn’t be so puzzled.Did he have to use the phrase “break up,” though? Buck’s not sure he can stand the implication.
you can always be found by chocolatebirdie (nr/4k): Abby's back in LA, and she keeps trying to get in touch with Buck. The only problem? He's literally always with Eddie.
Until the Dancing Ends by suyari (g/4k): It’s been the strangest day of his life to date.Or the one where everyone's seen the footage of the rescue but Eddie.
when the hardest part is over by Anonymous (g/4k): “It’s okay,” Buck rasps out, tight against Eddie’s ear. “We got you back. We got you. You’re safe.”It sounds like he’s reassuring himself as much as Eddie – might even be saying it for Christopher’s sake even though the boy is blissfully unaware of what’s happened tonight. A mantra spoken to the night like a victory speech, a reminder that it could take nothing away from them.
Not Done by red_to_black (nr/4k): Buck volunteered to get into the ambulance with him, knowing the risks. He's pinching the guy's skin and saying, "Take it out," and Eddie, for the first time since leaving the military, feels it - a connection. A kindred spirit. A purpose that tethers him to reality. A person relying on him to get the job done.(or - a list of things Eddie Diaz couldn't give up on, including himself.)
Talk About It by DoneInLove (e/4k): You want to send me your dickpic?Just to see if it looks okay. Buck starts sending Eddie his dick pics before he sends them to other people.Eddie doesn't know why he decided this was a good idea.
Guessing Game by Arsenal (t/4k): Buck overhears Eddie telling his mother that he has feelings for someone and drives himself nuts trying to figure out who is possibly could be. aka yet another oblivious Buck fic
Happy Buck Day by Jecari (g/5k): After pushing the balloons tied to Christopher's crutch away, Eddie finds his best friend frowning, mouth agape. Buck looks adorable."It's not my birthday," Buck points out after shaking his head."We know," Christopher laughs.
Buck Is My Warrior by elisela (g/5k): “We’ll be filming a special edition of American Ninja Warrior,” Troy announces after the introduction to the current contestant ends, “focused on our brave first responders. Go to our website to find out more details and how to submit your videos.”Oh.“Buddy,” Eddie says, “I don’t really know if that’s my thing.”Christopher looks at him, then down at his feet and mumbles something.“Didn’t catch that, kiddo,” Eddie says, reaching out and pressing two fingers under Chris’ chin to tilt his face back up.“I said,” Christopher says, “I want to nominate Buck.”
Eddie Diaz and the Cat-astrophe at the 118 by SquaresAreNotCircles (g/5k): It’s Chimney who rescues her from the tree, but it’s Bobby’s arms that she curls up in on the drive over to the vet to get her checked out. Right from the start, it’s as if she knows who she needs to cozy up with to secure her spot at the station.“Come on, that’s crazy,” Buck says, but he does so while laughing not at Eddie, but at the grey tabby cat trying to get her claws on the fake mouse on a string that Buck bought with his own money, so Eddie doesn’t put too much stock in his opinion.Or: The firefam adopts a mascot and Eddie has a minor crisis about it.
Evan Buckley and a Series of Unintended Consequences by Shaniamr (e/6k): Buck has been hurt on the job and has lost the ability to use his hands while they heal. Eddie jumps at the opportunity to help Buck with anything he needs. Anything.
Love Language by red_to_black (nr/6k): The one in which there's too much pollen around, Eddie pines, and Buck is oblivious.Or - Eddie's love language is acts of service, and Buck doesn't totally get it.
The Other Woman by MomentsOfWeakness (t/6k): Buck has been unlucky in love lately and he can't figure out why. It takes a phone call from Eddie and an interrupted date for him to finally put the pieces together.
My Favorite Place Is Inside Your Hug by Lopithecus (e/7k): When Eddie gets stuck in a hole while trying to rescue a kid, he remembers Afghanistan and how many people were lost. Luckily he has Buck in his corner to help him get through the memories.
give me strength so i can see by see_addy_write (t/7k): After the tsunami, Buck is sure Eddie won't want him anywhere near Christopher -- or himself. Both of the Diaz boys have something to say about that.
haircut to the heart by itsmylifekay (nr/8k): 5 times Buck cuts Christopher’s hair and 1 time Christopher helps cut his.
In the Aftershock by hideeho (t/8k): When Eddie is injured on the job, Buck is forced to face the fallout.
Slow Your Thinking by an_alternate_world (e/10k): Eddie has the itch to fight, the discomforting unease of needing to release all his negativity again making it difficult to concentrate on the calls. Buck suggests an alternative: surrendering his need for control to Buck for a while.
Just For This Moment by suyari (m/10k): “Take your time,” Carla said sternly. “Don’t rush this because you’re worried, Buck, do you hear me? Any change in your scent could just set him off.”“Yes, thank you, I know how to deal with Alphas,” he drawled.“Yes, but Eddie’s not just another Alpha and I think it’s time we acknowledged that.”
You Are Safe (With Me) by BabylonsFall (g/10k): Or: 5 times Eddie waltzed into Buck's apartment like he owned it, and 1 time Buck tried
you waltz through my bloodstream by wayfarer (t/2k): Buck gets a boyfriend and Eddie is totally fine with that. Really.
can't fight that feeling by Anonymous (e/11k): “We have to keep this quiet,” he realizes.“That’s,” Eddie starts, his eyebrows tilting inwards adorably. “I mean, yeah, if that’s what you wanna do, then—”“Not for long,” Buck protests. “I’m thinking until tomorrow.”The eyebrows rise with interest; the eyes beneath get their spark back. “Yeah?”“It’s Maddie and Chimney’s wedding day,” Buck says, slipping his hands down the last bit and entwining them with Eddie’s. “Today should be solely about them, about their love. You and I can have tomorrow. All the tomorrows.”
Just Hold Me Well by Lobotomite (m/11k): It was meant to be a fun little trip with his 118 family; no stress, no drama, and certainly no sexuality-redefining fumbles that make him realize his more than platonic feelings towards his best friend. But, well, when has anything ever gone according to plan for Buck?
a leaf falls on loneliness by iimpossible_things (nr/11k): Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that. But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.
Darling It's Better (Down Where It's Wetter) by Onlymystory (e/20k): "Who the hell is that?" asks Buck. Like he doesn't know exactly who that is. Like a week ago he wasn't enjoying one of the best fucks of his life with Eddie Diaz. Or the reason for Buck's surprise at the new recruit isn't quite for the reasons everyone thinks.
i think i might've inhaled you by ariquitecontrary (m/20k): How do you tell your best friend that you're actually in love with them? If you're Evan Buckley, you don't.
dancing under red skies by dayswithout (g, 30k) Buck hates Eddie Diaz on sight.aka, a soulmate au. (Eddie’s POV; g/15k)
dancing under red skies by dayswithout (g/30k): Buck hates Eddie Diaz on sight.aka, a soulmate au.
The Education of Eddie Diaz by mansikka (e/30k): Eddie doesn't really know how it happened. One moment the 118 are drunk in a bar after a hard shift, confessions slipping from his mouth as he playfully kisses Buck on the cheek. The next he is on Buck's couch, taking up Buck's offer of an education that could be asking for trouble. But it's just sex, and they're just friends; it doesn't mean anything to either of them. So why is his time alone with Buck the highlight of his week?
Guess We'll Just Have to Adjust by CocoBadShip (m/30k): No, Buck does not have a damn crush on Eddie fucking Diaz. No, Buck is not thinking about Eddie's stupid smile or his stupid hair or that obscene sound he made when he pushed the couch the way he did.Having a crush would be weird. And dumb. And the last thing Buck needs in his already fucked up life.

WiP Whenever
I was tagged a few days by @rainofaugustsith - thank you! - but I went a few days without writing anything.
Tagging ... let’s see ... @dvrthncx, @shanfamilydrama, @sleepswithvillains, @a-muirehen, @sunsetofdoom ... Anything brewing you want to tease us with?
Here’s a few sentences from my second incredibly overdue OC Kiss Week fic, which is only just getting past the brain-larva stage, featuring BH murder wives Indy and @vespertine-legacy’s Coda (it’s only 9 sentences, it’s just that some of them are long):
‘Does it still hurt?’ Coda asked worriedly, rummaging through the drawers of the medbay cabinet to find something to stop the bleeding.
A weird grunting sound which nevertheless managed to sound annoyed came from Indy’s direction.
Coda looked over her shoulder at where her partner - accomplice, lover, accidental wife, whatever - was perched on the biobed, ochre-furred legs stretched out in front of her and bare feet on the floor. Indy obviously couldn’t speak, what with the balled-up undershirt she was pressing to her open mouth, but the annoyed glare from her blue eyes made it clear that yes, it did very much still hurt.
‘I’m sorry,’ Coda said for what felt like the hundredth time, aware that while her contrition was completely sincere, the repeated apology had started to take on the slightly sulky tone she remembered from her childhood and having to apologise over and over and over again for some completely understandable mistake that anyone could have made (which had nevertheless always resulted in ruining something of Cershaa’s).
She slammed the drawer shut and yanked open the next one; it was a mess of half-open boxes, discarded packaging and spills of gauze and cotton wool. ‘Who’s supposed to be in charge of medical inventory, anyway?’
She looked back over her shoulder again to see Indy rolling her eyes to the ceiling. ‘It’s me, isn’t it? Well, it shouldn’t be from now on, that’s all I’m saying.’ Coda slammed the drawer closed and moved to the next cabinet. She pulled open the doors and a flurry of plastic-wrapped injectors clattered on to the countertop.

H50 Fic Recs - #1/2020
Have fun reading!
Operation Step-Steve by @telltaleclerk Rating: T, Words: 1,676 Gracie convinces Danny that it's a good idea to kiss Steve at midnight on New Years.
The cat is mighty dignified (until the dog comes by) by @five-wow Rating: G, Words: 2,508 Steve and Danny find them on the pillow in the corner of the dining area, where Eddie is on his side, ass half on the floor because the pillow is more cat-sized than lab-sized, and Pickles is nestled between Eddie’s front legs, essentially being spooned and looking very I-got-the-cream about it. Pickles’ head is tucked into the crook of Eddie’s neck and Eddie’s head slots perfectly on top of Mr. Pickles’, like a furry jigsaw puzzle.  “They’re cuddling,” Steve points out, unnecessarily. Or: There is a love story unfolding under the McGarrett roof.
Recover by elandrialore Rating: n/a, Words: 1,563 Steve has bruises. So does Danny.
Push Comes to Shove by thegrrrl2002 Rating: E, Words: 1,137 Just who exactly is in charge here?
A Special Kind of Crazy by thegrrrl2002 Rating: E, Words: 3,198 "I'm never going to have sex again, am I?" Danny asks.
The Comfort of Home by @stellagioia Rating: n/a, Words: 1,460 A short coda for episode 10x13 where Steve talks about those first weeks in military school.
The Stillness Of The Deep Sea by @cowandcalf Rating: E, Words: 45,248 Steve doesn't recover emotionally from the loss of his mother. He's convinced he has failed as a SEAL and as a son. He doesn't find his way back from the dark place that has spread deep into his heart and his mind. Danny isn't sure if his plan is going to work but he runs out of options. He has to take action to organize the right setting for the long-overdue talk. Danny knows Steve won't appreciate what he's about to do. (Coda to 10x07)
Someday by simkhalou Rating: M, Words: 120,108 Amidst torture and death, Danny and Steve made a promise to each other. (A story set around the events of episodes 4.21 through 5.08.)
Fake Dating For Gracie by @telltaleclerk Rating: M, Words: 12,039 Grace tells Danny that she's so happy he and Uncle Steve are dating. Danny doesn't have the heart to tell her it's not true. Things spiral out of his control.
Touched by the years by @nerd-herd24 Rating: G, Words: 1,518 Truly, one of Danny’s great joys in life was seeing the ways that age has touched his partner of 10 years. Not that he takes pleasure in the loss of youthfulness, or in the pain that’s etched fine lines beside his eyes, but goddamn it, those lines mean he’s still here.
Chosen Universe (series) by @narkito Rating: T, Words: 4,655 Dystopian AU, Danny gets deployed.
Serious Left Hand Turn by @bgharison Rating: T, Words: 7,786 “Don’t talk to me unless you’ve got more animal crackers,” Steve mumbled.  He swallowed, swallowed again.  “Fuck.”
No Filter by @nerd-herd24 Rating: T, Words: 1,889 Danny sustains a head wound during a raid, Steve comes to his rescue.
How Green Was My Kahana Valley by Millie (Wren_K) Rating: G, Words: 13,121 Five-0's latest assignment is a literal walk in the park.  Of course when the park is Ahupua'a O Kahana State Park and they're - well - them, things are bound to get complicated.

My personal Supernatural coda
Yes, I am sad. Yes, I am frustrated.
But if I think about where it comes from, I realize: It’s in parts my own fault. Because I hang on to meta, read and write it, like the next fan. I let me give it hope, let it reassure me that what we want, what I want, what will become the truth, canon.
But I want you to understand one thing:
All fanfic, metas, theories and interpretations are NOT the reality.
If were are right with what we think, think to see, we are lucky. But it rarely ever has something to do with what the writers of a show actually intended.
You know, back in school I hated literature class because of said interpretations. I hated that teachers and literature professors always wanted to see some 20 layers of meaning behind every single word. Because, well, there is not.
Writing, for the most part, then and now, is just sitting down and doing it. Creating a story that flows, putting words and ideas out as fast as your mind provides them without missing something good or important. It is not considering every word carefully, every theme and picture, and how it can be a call-back to some tiny thing that has happened years prior.
Maybe it’s what we do in fanfic, all these little nudges and winks, because we have the time, and we love that one or the other reader will squeal in recognition. But professional writers, especially those for TV shows, rarely ever have that time. Oftentimes, they will not even have this thorough and profound knowledge of even the smallest things; even less when a show has been running for as long as SPN has.
So as good and believable and hopeful all those metas that were written in the past days, and over the years, may have been - they are just interpretations of people who are so involved in watching the show and hanging on to every last little hint of something they want to see, that it gives false hope.
And this is the result. A broken fandom. A fandom in mourning not because their favorite show has ended, but because it didn’t end the way we all expected solely because of meticulous meta.
Once I thought that this show would end with both Sam and Dean dying and going into heaven in the last couple of minutes, and that would be it. Everyone who has seen the show however knows that so far heaven wasn’t a good place.
So did the writers. And they took the time to show us that heaven is a good place now. That it has changed; has been changed by Jack and by Cas.
When you talk about last night’s episode, you have to look closely. You have to take into consideration that they only had some 42min, that they shot it during Covid, and that this is and always has been essentially a show about two brothers. No one negates the importance of Misha/Cas especially, or anyone else in general. They squeezed in a mention of Donna, they heavily implied that Jack and Cas are running heaven now and therefore that Cas IS back from the Empty, and if you ask me, that woman in the background may very well have been Eileen (why choose a black-haired woman when so far Sam’s significant girlfriends have been blond). They brought in Jim Beaver, who has not been any less important to that show.
And if we are interpreting, well, then I would almost go as far to say that they also sort of gave us Destiel. As I wrote in my fanfic from last night, my interpretation is that angels are supposed to stay in heaven now, because of Jack’s new rules, which is totally fine and long overdue. And he can’t make exceptions, not even for Cas. So bringing Dean to heaven is the logical step, because it’s the place they can be together. My headcanon definitely is that they are.
Last night I saw many tweets of people thanking the show and while not entirely happy, still praise it, including the ending. At first I was angry about that, but then it hit me - and I have in fact said that a few days back - the show is not made for us few here on Tumblr. There is a gigantic fandom out there, and we are only a small part. This show is not made for us - it is made for everyone.
Did I want a happy shipper ending? Duh, of course. But it is not about what I want, or our Tumblr niche. It’s about serving everyone. Everyone who has ever watched the show, and still does.
You may say now that killing Dean, letting Sam live alone, isn’t serving us, who are a part of the fandom. Yes, maybe you are right.
A few years back, when I was last active in Tumblr, people were complaining about the codependency between the brothers. How unhealthy it was etc etc. Thinking about that, killing one off and letting the other live a full life doesn't seem so strange or wrong then. Saying that Sam wasn’t happy the rest of his life is not correct. He had a family, a son. Of course he was sad; he had lost his brother, and with him the one human being he had had the most intense relationship with for 15 years. If you are that close to someone, and go through literal hell, death and apocalypse, something none of us will ever be able to relate to, with them, you are bound to form a bond that goes beyond everything that is known to men, and it will naturally make you feel the loss even more acutely. But we didn’t see Sam give up, live out his days alone, or become reckless and suicidal.
Yes, I wanted to see Sam and Eileen together, as well as Cas and Dean, all of them on Earth, all of them as a big family with the occasional visit from Jack, all of them living their lives to the fullest and happiest until they died of old age and reunited in heaven.
But while Supernatural has always been about family, it never has been about cheesy soap stories. Drama has ever since the beginning a defining theme of this show. To me, this ending felt much more like Supernatural as anything that would have served us fans. Don’t get me wrong, the above mentioned I would have embraced wholeheartedly. Nevertheless I am able and willing to accept what we have been given as the more realistic story to be told by this show.
And therefore, while sad and still crying a random tear or two, I am also strangely content.
Listen, let me tell you this. I have been a TV show nerd for more than 20 years, which is the better part of my life. I have over a hundred shows on that list, and I have loved many of them fiercely and passionately. And I assure you -- not many ended the way I wanted them to. Some disappointed, some had a nice enough ending I could live with, even if it wasn’t perfect in my opinion. A handful were perfect (Farscape, The Mentalist, TVD come to mind).
What I need all of you to make peace with is the fact that at the end of the day, and no matter how much it has changed our lives, it is just a TV show, created and written to reach the biggest possible audience and earn a lot of people money.
Let us all enjoy our perfect little meta, fan-fantasy world; that’s totally fine, and absolutely legitimate. But every once in a while, stop and remind yourself that this is not a gift to us, but commercial programming.
The real world out there is not perfect, it never  will be. And as long as we remember that, we’ll find peace and happiness in what we are given.
We are the Supernatural Family, after all - the greatest and most special fan community that has ever existed. Let us be proud of that - and let us be proud of the show that gave us that.

Gimme Some Lovin'
Let me in baby I don't know what you got You better take it easy This place is hot And I'm So glad you made it So glad you made it You gotta Gimme some lovin' Gimme some lovin' Gimme some lovin' every day -- Gimme Some Lovin' by The Spencer Davis Group
A discussion in the @voyager-book-club led to this list of Trek fics that book club members feel deserve some extra lovin’ -- all by authors who aren't in book club (a future list will be for book club members). Hope you find some gems here and will tell the authors how much you’re lovin’ what they do.
The Professor and the Ambassador (G) by bibliothekara;  Trip/T'pol; This is a satisfying, drama-free fix-the-finale for Enterprise. Its few short pages serve as a heartwarming bridge between ENT and TOS. Bonus: Her Scotty is a hoot. (recommended by @trinfinity2001)
Triskaidekaphilia (M) by BadFic; Seven of Nine/Number Six; With rainbow references to TOS and a BSG/VOY crossover pairing made in numerical heaven, this hot, fun fic is a flat-out joy to read. (recommended by @curator-on-ao3)
The Third Thread (M) by RachaelGold; Chakotay/Kathryn Janeway; RachaelGold is one of my favorite authors for JC fic and doesn't get enough love in general. I haven't read this one recently, but it stands out as one of my favorites and I just don't get why it doesn't have a higher read count. This one is fun and flirty with some sexual tension which I love!  It's also Post-Endgame which I have a soft spot for. Read all of RachaelGold's stuff, because there are some really really good ones in the mix! (recommended by @ariella884)
The Weight of a Man (E-M) by imachar; Philip Boyce/Christopher Pike; This series is absolutely amazing. I love the development of their relationship and the kinky E-rated stuff was a nice bonus. ;-) I couldn't rec just one fic, so I chose the whole series. Woops… (recommended by @icecream-junkie)
Triangulate (E) by Astronoddingoff; Philip Boyce/Number One/Christopher Pike; Angst mixed with sex pollen and some well written smut. Do I need to say more? (recommended by @icecream-junkie)
Second Chances (G-E) by LJC; Christopher Pike/Number One; I really loved this series about Pike and Number One's relationship. It's set in the AOS timeline, starting after the 2009 movie and I absolutely adore the author's version of Number One. Look at me rec'ing a series again instead of a single fic. *lol* (recommended by @icecream-junkie)
vacation long overdue (E) by nerdqueenenterprise; Phillip Boyce/Christopher Pike; Fluff and sex and more of fluff and sex
Fish or Cut Bait (M) by imachar; Phillip Boyce/Christopher Pike; nice getting together fic (recommended by @allthewians)
Silver Foxes (E) by circ_bamboo; Phillip Boyce/Leonard McCoy/Christopher Pike; I really love this because its sexy and well written (recommended by @allthewians)
Need (E) by bluegeekEM; Christopher Pike/Leonard McCoy; Deals with Chris' post Nero injuries and sex. (recommended by @allthewians)
Savior (E) by nerdqueenenterprise; Christopher Pike/Philip Boyce; I love a good rescue and hurt/comfort fic (recommended by @allthewians)
The Wisdom of Age (M) Zauzat; Christopher Pike/ Philip Boyce/Leonard McCoy/James T. Kirk; I just love a foursome, and I love the domesticity between Pike and Boyce (recommended by @allthewians)
Winged Desires and Veiled Persuasions (M) by imachar; Philip Boyce/Leonard McCoy/Christopher Pike; Very nice threesome fic I love (recommended by @allthewians)
The New Year's Resolution (T) by Zauzat; Christopher Pike/Philip Boyce; I love a good get-together fic  (recommended by @allthewians)
Holy (E) by Astronoddingoff; Christopher Pike/Philip Boyce/Number One; Everything about this is beautiful. It's the perfectly poetic description of Pike finding himself in a complicated world. All of it written with an urgency that just pulls you along.  It's a short fic. The perfect gateway drug. ;) (recommended by @killermanatee)
Of Hopes and Fears and Twilight Fantasies (E) by imachar; James T. Kirk/Christopher Pike/Leonard McCoy; I don't have words for how fantastic this fic is. It's unique and honest and heartfelt and such a great take on this thruple. And on top it's also incredibly sexy. (says it's unfinished, but it actually is) Literally everything by imachar is phenomenal. (recommended by @killermanatee)
Draws (T-E) by Syredronning; Christopher Pike/Leonard McCoy/James T. Kirk /original female character; Yes, it's a series, not one fic. And it's really long. BUT if you want to read a super captivating take on a realistic poly relationship that does not only feature some of the best kink but also provides a story that you will completely get lost in: THIS. IS. IT. There are well-written and compelling original characters, complex, believable struggles and an incredibly well mapped-out plot on top.  I devoured this fic. Then I devoured it again. This is the kind of storytelling I wish I was capable of. (recommended by @killermanatee)
and we run (M) by gracieminabox; Christopher Pike/Philip Boyce; This is a fantastic end-of-the-world fic set in the present. At its core this fic is about two people who love each other and who struggle to survive while holding on to each other for strength and it's so beautiful! (I have all the feels just thinking about it again) This fic is a GEM. Even if m/m fic generally isn't your thing, please give this a chance. (recommended by @killermanatee)
Illusory Reality (G) by sixbeforelunch; Christopher Pike/Number One; If you also can't get over Pike's fate of ending up at Talos 4 this is your fic. It's the perfect addition to The Menagerie and shows a beautiful relationship between Pike and One. It's perfectly bittersweet. (recommended by @killermanatee)
Beneath a Sky of a Thousand Stars (G) by SeemaG; Chakotay/Kathryn Janeway; This is a somber look at how things could have played out if Coda had ended differently. It has a rich backstory that you can really feel as you read it and the whole set-up just sticks with you as something that could have definitely happened. (recommended by @killermanatee)
Transitions (G) by Lodessa; Jadzia Dax/Kira Nerys, Ezri Dax/Kira Nerys; This is such a beautiful little story about love being larger than lifetimes, even when it’s complicated and doesn’t work out like you’d hope. (recommended by @cnrothtrek)

Tumblr media
@lcvelj: “ Leaving a note in the void, an aura, a familiar presence. A reminder for him to come home soon. ”
WITH  no reliable frame of reference, time was inconsequential. Minutes slipped through his fingertips, hours vanished in a blink of an eye, and weeks  blended  together like a freshly painted mural dampened by the rain. Some versions of Mark were easier to  exploit  than others and while it was ill-fated to thrust expectations upon any given reality, petulance threatened to manifest whenever his human counterpart  propounded  the idea of futility. Trust had to be nurtured with  fastidious  care, its progression surveyed by a  pedantic  eye and nourished to the point of devout faith. Too many times had he been on the brink of  triumphant  conquest and every time had infuriatingly amounted to failure. The outcome itself was never in question but the  longevity  of each pursuit was always too variable to bear. Indefatigably did he chase the taste of victory like an  overwrought  addict, eager to witness Mark's surrender and render his existence null. Pertinacious perseverance would win in the end, as it always did, but no qualms would have been expressed with a  shorter  path to success.
Tumblr media
A  turbulent  argument had eventually driven him away and forced him to abandon his venture for the evening, bottling his wrath until darkness sheathed his form and he returned to the Void's  barren  realm; only then could the full extent of his displeasure be exhibited without gambling his existing relationship with Mark. Ire  calcified  within him, vexation eventually expelling in a polychromatic  eruption  within the great abyss. In a variegated spectrum of colour did the entity make his wrath known and with it came a  bellow  that struck deep in the heart of the subspace.
Static flooded the entirety of the space like a mechanical swarm, burrowing inside the ear until it finished with a fortissimo coda that would have surely deafened any mortal visitor. The  harrowing  shout lasted long after his lungs exhausted their supply of air, another  phantom  echo added to the vast plane of oblivion as the entity willed himself to tame the furious tempest within him. Only when the  cacophony  of his indignation dulled did he finally feel a familiar sensation within the space, one that acted as a loyal companion and had remained with him the entire time -------------  ( A GOLDEN THREAD THAT CONNECTED THE VOID WITH ANOTHER,  A SINGLE STAR AMIDST A PITCH BLACK SKY ! ).
Eyes slipped closed to better focus on the aura, to attune him to its provenance and its  otherworldly  sentiment. In spite of the environment's inherent  antagonism  towards trespassers, his own influence and command contained its hostility to preserve the other presence. It was  warmth  on a cold winter's day,  oxygen  to a drowning man, and a  raft  amidst a sea of boisterous waves. It was  benevolent  and had no place in the Void;  she  had no place in the Void and yet, the reminder served its purpose and stabilized the few traces of volatility that existed within him.
Tumblr media
A return visit was admittedly long overdue and as a  fragment  of his aura was left behind to linger in the abyss, the entity's decision had already been finalized for immediate action. A respite from the  cyclical  routine was sorely needed, and there was no other he would have elected to spend its duration with.  They had been away from each  other for far too long.
                                                 ( SOON. VERY SOON. )
