Summary:

The world is beset by alien creatures known as the Noise. Nothing can touch them, and if they touch a human being, both turn into carbon dust. But, with the symphogear system-magitech battle armor powered by music and singing, humanity has a chance to fight back.

Propaganda:

This is the best example of music fights I’ve ever seen. They sing WHILE fighting. It’s amazing. The fight choreography, how the music plays into it, and let’s not forget the incredible character development. The entire cast is full of characters that would be the highlight of any other show. And last but not least, it is off the walls insane fun. You think it reaches its heights at the end of season 1, but no. It keeps climbing, and you are along for the ride.

#A4: Servamp

Summary:

A normal 15-year-old boy named Mahiru Shirota, who likes to keep things ‘simple’ and uncomplicated, finds a black kitten in an alleyway and decides to take him home. He names the cat Kuro. Mahiru later discovers that Kuro is actually a Servamp (a servant vampire), and that by giving him a name he has formed a contract with him. This results in him getting dragged into a war between the other vampires and a vampire-hunting organization called C3.

Propaganda:

Servamp deals with intergenerational trauma and how wars don’t always have a clear-cut good/bad guy. The main antagonist Tsubaki, the Servamp of melancholy, and his subclasses (people he turned into vampires) seem reluctant at times to fight/hurt Mahiru unless they feel like it is necessary, and they all clearly care about each other (evil found family). Tsubaki even seems to have a bit of a bleeding heart considering how often he brings in new people even if they aren’t good at fighting. But that doesn’t change the fact that he is willing to let the world burn to achieve his goals as long as his people aren’t hurt in the process.

Then you have C3, the vampire-hunting organization. They view themselves as protectors of humanity and are willing to do anything to defeat Tsubaki, even kidnapping Mahiru to try and convince him to work with them under threat of death.

Then you have how the different Servamps deal with immortality. You have Lily, the Servamp of lust, who takes in and raises kids who are abandoned or abused. If any of the kids died before he could save them, he turns them into his subclasses instead. Then, there is Kuro, the Servamp of sloth. He doesn’t have any subclasses because you can’t know if someone want to be immortal, and it is cruel to force that upon someone. And finally, Lawless, who, for some reason, has started to kill his eves (the people he forms a contract with) once he gets bored with them.

The anime also has some absolutely beautiful animation and music. Plus, all the characters are well written and fun. (Fun fact: the person who sings the opening “Deal With” also voices Tsubaki.)

One of the things that kills me every time I think about it is how when I worked at the library a resident of the town wrote a letter to the reference department from federal prison asking us to print out some news articles for him. He also asked if we could please email the friend who had adopted his beloved dog when he was incarcerated and ask for some photos because he really missed his dog. We talked about it and were like okay, we wouldn't usually send emails for a patron but this is clearly a special circumstance, he doesn't have access to email or a printer so it's not like he can do it himself. Anyway the friend sent photos and they were so good. They were clearly taken by a Boomer with a smart phone, which is to say oddly framed, but they showed a big beautiful dog who was clearly loved, lounging in the sunlight outside a trailer, sitting on a couch, etc etc. We printed them on regular A4 paper just in case photographs were restricted.

So I mailed everything off and about a month later we received an envelope from the prison. They had accepted the news articles but THEY SENT THE DOG PHOTOS BACK.

Roguelike deckbuilder Yohane the Parhelion: NUMAZU in the MIRAGE announced for PS5, Switch, and PC

eXide has announced roguelike deckbuilder Yohane the Parhelion: NUMAZU in the MIRAGE for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch on February 22, 2024 with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language support.

In Japan, the PlayStation 5 and Switch versions will be available physically for 6,380 yen and digitally for 4,950 yen, while the PC version will cost 5,280 yen. A “Premium Box” limited edition will also be available for 14,960 yen, which includes a copy of the game, A4-size art book, one-disc soundtrack CD, one-disc original drama CD, clear card set, and a special box, as well as the first-print run downloadable content costume “Chick.”

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is expected to give farmers new concessions in an attempt to calm down protests which have squeezed the French capital on Monday.

After protesting farmers blocked eight motorways leading to Paris on Monday, the French government is preparing more concessions to ease tensions.

The farmers have a list of complaints, including that working in agriculture has become too difficult and not lucrative enough.

France's new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is set to give a speech in France’s lower house of parliament Tuesday, laying out his government's priorities and offering new aid measures to the agricultural sector.

It would be a new test for Attal, now in the first month of his new job, after the pro-agriculture measures he announced last week were deemed insufficient by the farmers. The 34-year-old prime minister has promised more aid measures.

On Monday, protesting farmers encircled Paris with traffic-snarling barricades, using hundreds of lumbering tractors and piles of hay bales to block highways leading into the French capital in a bid to pressure the government over the future of their industry, which has been shaken by the fallout from the war in Ukraine.

A protest that, for the time being, has no end in sight.

"There is total determination," said Arnaud Rousseau, president of the main and powerful agricultural union, the FNSEA, who was received by Attal yesterday afternoon and announced that they were continuing to negotiate with the government.

In an interview on Europe 1 radio, Rousseau said that there needed to be a "change of course" by the government and "symbolic emergency measures". He explained that the impression he had got from the Prime Minister yesterday was that he was "ready to go further on all issues".

The farmers have managed to evade police attempts to stop them, as their declared aim is to block access to the Rungis food market, the largest in Europe, some fifteen kilometres from Paris.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who has mobilised 15,000 officers in response to the protests, has warned since the weekend that he will not allow this to happen.

However, Darmanin has asked the police not to intervene in the so-called 'siege' blockades of Paris or the rest of the country - where there are several dozen - unless there is a threat to property or people.

The blockade of major roads around Paris - which hosts the Summer Olympics in six months - and protests elsewhere in France promised another difficult week for new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who has been in office for less than a month.

Protesters said Attal's attempts at pro-agriculture measures last week fell short of their demands that food production be made more lucrative, easier and fairer.

Farmers responded on Monday by deploying convoys of tractors, trailers and even rumbling harvesters in what they called a "siege" of Paris to win more concessions. Some protesters came with supplies of food and water, and tents to stay at the barricades if the government didn't back down.

Transport authorities in the Paris region reported blockages on the A1 motorway north of the city's main international airport, the A4 near the Disneyland theme park east of the capital and other normally busy roads.

"Our aim isn't to inconvenience or ruin the lives of French people," Arnaud Rousseau, president of the influential FNSEA agricultural union, told RTL radio. "Our aim is to put pressure on the government to quickly find solutions to the crisis."

Farmers in neighbouring Belgium have also set up barricades to stop traffic on some major roads, including those leading to the capital, Brussels. Most of the protests are taking place in the French-speaking part of the country.

From herbal cigarettes to unique haircuts, the show posed various challenges for him. It was once when Murphy discussed the mind-boggling shooting schedule and spoke at length on the same.

In 2019, Murphy shared with the Birmingham Mail that he needed a guide to comprehend the show's non-chronological shooting order. He explained that, "We could be doing episode four in the morning and the finale in the afternoon."

He added, "It was an incredibly mindf***ing shoot, so I got our director Tim Mielants to draw up four A4 sheets which I put up in my trailer." Murphy mentioned that the sheets were to summarize "about where Tommy was going," as well as "where he was at with the Russians at any point."

Cillian mentioned it helped him make sense of the complex shooting schedule. He added, "I needed it to figure out what the hell was going on."

One must note that shooting out of sequence is not unusual for TV shows. It can lead to peculiar moments for actors who might have to express love for a character in one scene and anger in the next.

For the unversed, Peaky Blinders is known for its ever-changing allegiances, and even viewers sometimes find it challenging to keep up with Tommy's alliances.

Murphy's mention of this unique shooting style is noteworthy because Peaky Blinders is only the second TV show he has acted in. As of now, the actor is renowned for his work in films like Oppenheimer, 28 Days Later, and Batman Begins.

A new job, a new life as an actress. You had moved to Los Angeles from your lovely old home, London to pursue your acting dreams. You had made an application for a really big acting job you thought would boost your career. Recently, you got the email back to say you got the job, which meant you had to pack up her things and move to the US.

You had never even been abroad let alone left your home country to move to a new one. It was scary but you had a friend who was working on the same job, she was as part of the hair and makeup crew. But tomorrow you would have to try and deal with the untimely heat that your not used to. You were tired but you weren't finished unpacking in your new apartment, but you went to bed nevertheless.

The next morning you woke up at least an hour later than you wanted to because you had to go through your boxes and find what you needed, but you just had to put on what you wore the day before because you were late enough as it was.

You rushed out to your car and looked at the time luckily you had enough time to go and get a coffee before you had to get to set for the first time. It was especially stressful because you were driving on the wrong side of the road (to you) and you had to use a satnav to get to set as you'd never been there before. You also didn't know who you were working with until you get there.

you successfully arrived at the coffee shop drive through and grabbed an espresso before you set off to go to set. As you were driving you were worrying because a blackout Mercedes Benz was following you at every turn you made.

When you arrived at set you suddenly realised that the person following you must also work here because they parked up a couple spaces away from you and cranked their window down to speak to somebody. You would recognise that accent from anywhere. He was from London too.

When he stepped out of his car you realised who it was that was following you to set. You never knew he would be working on the set with you, you thought it would be just a couple of underground actors hoping to be recognised. Before you could reach to get out of your car an Audi A4 pulled up next to you. You didn't even know who this could be but you suspected it could be another recognisable actor because of the nice car they were driving.

You did have quite a big part in the movie, your character, Paisley, was in a love triangle with two other characters, troy and spencer. So that meant you were one of the main characters in the movie. Tom Holland then stepped out of his car and looked at the man that he was talking to before walking over the Audi parked next to you. He started chatting with the person in the car.

You then realised who the person in the car next to you was when Tom and him started to walk toward the hair and makeup trailers in front of the car park. It was Evan Peters. You had actually heard that Evan might be on this movie but you thought it was all a rumour, not realising it was true.

You got out of your car and started to head over to hair and makeup to see you're friend Jenna that worked there, although you really didn't want to have to go and probably talk to Evan and Tom. But you walked over to the trailer with pride and knocked on the door before entering. Somebody yelled "come in!" from inside and you knew who yelled it.

As you stepped in you saw Tom sitting in a chair getting his hair styled by Jenna. She stopped what she was doing, apologised to Tom and rushed over to you. You rushed over to her also and gave her a massive hug. You hadn't seen Jenna in almost a year and it had felt like forever.

The next thing you know the brit sat in the chair broke up you're reunion by saying "oi, I'm supposed to be getting my hair done, but I'm guessing you and Jenna know each other?" with a laugh. You turned to look at him and smiled "yeah, me and Jenna have been friends since we were little. I'm Y/n by the way, nice to meet you" you said nervously reaching out to shake his hand "nice to meet you I'm Tom, this is Evan although he's like so absorbed into his phone right now" Evan then looked up awkwardly and waved at you. You smiled and waved back.

It wasn't long until you had to be on set to discuss which of the 3 scenes you had to learn the lines fir you were shooting today. Tom asked Evan to leave the room for a second to talk with him, which gave you and Jenna a few minuets to talk about what you had been doing during the past year.

You explained that you had found this job application and decided to give the audition a go because you needed some recognition if you were going to pursue acting in the future. Jenna started talking about future scenes she'd seen the script for because she needs the basic scene layout to know what she needs for hair and makeup.

"I saw one of the scenes is a sex scene between Paisley and Spencer haha" Jenna blurted out which made you go a bit pink in the cheeks but you did get warned that his movie was rated an 18. So you knew now that the sex scene Jenna had just brought up would be very graphic, which you couldn't really say anything about because you were the one who signed up for this in the first place.

Tom and Evan walked back into the trailer after having their little talk outside, "Y/n, you know you and Tom and me and you have to have at least two sex scenes together in this movie right?" Evan said which flabbergasted you because you'd only just heard about the one you'd have to do with Tom's character let alone two with both Evan's and Tom's characters. -

Everybody could see that Tom and Evan were very attractive and so could you but you weren't so sure when Evan had so confidently said to you about the 4 sex scenes minimum because they'd both done them before, but you on the other hand had little to no experience in that sort of acting. Even the director said that you might have to practice perhaps with a friend at home or with Tom or Evan.

When you got back to your apartment that night it was clear to see that you were tired let alone how you didn't know that it didn't cool down in the evenings in LA it stayed the same temperature all the time. Tom and Evan had both given you their numbers as you were obviously co-starring with them and had to keep in contact for when you were sharing scenes and what scenes they were.

It was difficult now because you didn't want to disappoint them and make them look bad in this movie. The whole reason you auditioned for this role in particular and not an extra was because you wanted to be more recognised in the industry and to be honest you thought the plot was similar to 'TSITP' and you loved that show, so being in your own version would be amazing.

You did some unpacking and got all your clothes and bedroom things unpacked, your wardrobe was full, cabinets full of random bits and bobs, laps were plugged in and your tv was set up. It was finally starting to feel homely. You were about to jump in the shower when you heard your phone go off. It was a message from Evan.

E: 'Hey, wanna grab coffee before filming tomorrow?

Y: 'sure why not, meet you there at 8?'

E: 'okay can't wait see you there'

You put your phone on charge and got in the shower, thinking about Evan, you couldn't help but wonder if he'd just asked to get coffee as a friendly gesture or if he meant it in another way. You realised you had been stood in the shower zoned out for 10 minutes thinking about him. Studying apon that you also realised it's late and you have early filming tomorrow and you have to get to the coffee shop to meet Evan.

You lay in bed pondering on the thought of going for coffee tomorrow with Evan, and that you've only met him once and you're already fantasising about him and how his hair was always perfect and his eyes and... No you had things to work on like this movie for instance no time for men to get in the way again so you went to sleep still thinking about him but trying so hard not to.

Dopamine - Kamisama-chan (ft. Kaai Yuki)

Love hearing Yuki in heavier EDM! She compliments the heavy thumping trap drums perfectly. Short, catchy and impactful.

Kashuu Ryousuke/Natsu no Owari - Air Vent (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

Their songs always bring the feeling of standing outside in a summer midday, and this time there's an air vent going off nearby. Yukari is distant and dry, like you're hearing her singing echo through a pipe. A laid-back vapor rock song with an undercurrent of waiting for something to happen.

A4。- The Flea Waltz。(ft. KAFU)

This came out just as I was writing this! Much more toned-down energy (for most of the song anyway, volume warning for the last ~40 seconds of the song) from their last vocalsynth song, but not mellow by any means. Having vflower support KAFU for the choruses was a wise choice, since I thought KAFU was underpowered in the choruses of the previous song.

もろこし_白神 - 霧燭灯命 (ft. ROSE)

First ROSE song I've heard, and she sounds pretty good! Then again I've always had a thing for lower-range feminine voices. Chill pianos and synths.

OZON Music - Fall with U (ft. Hatsune Miku)

It's been out on the album for a while, but I've been hoping for an official upload since the trailer dropped months ago and I'm not disappointed! I began listening to them for their brighter, more cheerful songs, but this is more than enough proof that they can pull off dark and coy.

Yakatora - ラッドペント (ft. Meika Mikoto, Meika Hime)

My first song by this producer, and it's a good impression! Fast-paced jazzy rock, something you might get if you blend SLAVE.V-V-R and Kariki Bear together. Some solid growls by the Meika twins too.

Fate Japanese Art Book Haul

So, a big old order of Fate material. But still, even with this much being added to my collection I've scratched the surface of Fate/Type-Moon material. This (alongside my other Heaven's Feel stuff) represents the majority of anime art book works, but still I'd say I'm only getting to about 50, maybe 60, percent of the anime art books currently. So yeah, still loads to go on all fronts, but good progress! Anyways, let me dive into the art books from top to bottom in the above image.

Fate/Prototype Animation Material

This one is really interesting to me. The vast majority of the art book is just the storyboards for a single 10 minute OVA. The amount of projected and potential work in this art book comfortably outweighs the information we get in the OVA, making it a super cool look into the original concepts that Nasu had for the Stay Night route.

Of course, the book has more than just storyboards to it, as it starts off with character and prop design pages in full color. Super cool to see so I sort of wish they included more extraneous production aspects alongside it, but I won't really complain given how much material there already is, and the fact that I got it for dirt cheap (a little over 5CAD at auction).

Another sorta extra purchase, but for how much it was (10.50CAD and it's Hardcover), I wasn't going to pass it up in the moment. Have to fill out that roster somehow, right? Anyways, it's a relatively small art book, just a bit bigger in trim than the Prototype one, but it's really cool to have the openings and endings in keyframe format. Lots of pretty stuff in there.

There is a proper item set for this though. It originally comes in a box with a pair of extra material books including storyboards for the openings and endings. The whole set itself is a bit of a challenge to find at times, but the individual items are very abundant, so I'll probably be picking them up in the next haul or two if I can find them for cheap. Or maybe I'll double dip and get the box if I can, it does seem pretty cool (also comes with bonus full sheets from the OPs/EDs).

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works First Season Key Animations

This was really cool. I'm a big cheapskate (despite how much I buy), so I was incredibly happy to have won the auction for this pair of books at only around 20CAD each. What's not cool, but rather confusing, is how different the second season key animations set is. It's a colored and metallic dust jacket. Very weird, right? Anyways, it's super cool fate stuff and the key animation is as incredible as you might expect.

Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel AD Correction Collection Volumes 1 & 2

I feel like a fraud, only having things for Heaven's Feel 1&2, but Spring Song stuff is so expensive. I could get the first two storyboard collections for both Heaven's Feel and Unlimited Blade Works for less than I can typically find the Spring Songs Key Animations for. It's so rough. Anyways, these are a collection of the correction done by the Art Director for Heaven's Feel. You could say it already overlaps with the Keyframe Collections of their namesakes, but I think it's interesting to see the changes and overall process of the work.

Fate/Zero Key Animations Collection

I really appreciate that Zero kept the dust jackets consistent for itself. UBW Season 2 really is just the odd one out of Ufotable's Fate collection. Regardless, it's pretty much the same story as the UBW keyframe collections, plenty of cool and very pretty keyframe art that provides a window into the production and work of Ufotable on the series.

Fate/Grand Order Trailer's Trail Volume 1

Now hear me out, I don't play FGO, but I do enjoy the quality of the trailers, and when an A4 book comprised of over 400 pages of key animation is 10CAD it's hard to look the other way. In general though, it's pretty cool, and well organized into chapters so you don't get pieces mixed up with each other. Definitely worth it for any fans of the game, or just like some really well animated Fate stuff.

Ufotable 15th Anniversary Exhibition Pictorial Record

This was a pretty cool pickup. Special art stuff for studios as a whole isn't something that greatly interests me, but Ufotable is definitely a studio I'd be interested in having a history of, even if I'm not a fan of everything they work on. Overall it's a very pretty and well constructed hardcover art book, with a nice helping of works from all across their years (which they did an excellent job of selecting the best moments from).

And that about does it with this haul. As you can tell, there's a lot here, but also a great deal that I'm still missing. The more you come to understand and have, the deeper the abyss seems to grow. At the end of the day though, it's incredible fun and something I've grown to be incredibly passionate about. There's so much history to all of these art books, so many memories and so much passion behind it all. Having a record of all of my favorite series and titles and animators just feels right. I'm able to be in control of what I remember of them and it's a really great feeling.

Best Underrated Anime Group A Round 1: #A4 vs #A5

#A4: Immortal vampires with daddy issues and family drama

A normal 15-year-old boy named Mahiru Shirota, who likes to keep things ‘simple’ and uncomplicated, finds a black kitten in an alleyway and decides to take him home. He names the cat Kuro. Mahiru later discovers that Kuro is actually a Servamp (a servant vampire), and that by giving him a name he as formed a contract with him. This results in him getting dragged into a war between the other vampires and a vampire-hunting organization called C3.

#A5: Two girls unravel mysteries surrounding an isolated manor

A family of nobles named the Shadows live in an isolated mansion in the mountains. When a Shadow comes of age, they are assigned a “Living Doll,” who acts as their face. Emilico is a new doll serving a Shadow named Kate. Emilico and Kate slowly uncover more and more unsettling things in the house, and soon they come to wonder what exactly the Living Dolls are.

#A4: Servamp

Propaganda:

Servamp deals with intergenerational trauma and how wars don’t always have a clear-cut good/bad guy. The main antagonist Tsubaki, the Servamp of melancholy, and his subclasses (people he turned into vampires) seem reluctant at times to fight/hurt Mahiru unless they feel like it is necessary, and they all clearly care about each other (evil found family). Tsubaki even seems to have a bit of a bleeding heart considering how often he brings in new people even if they aren’t good at fighting. But that doesn’t change the fact that he is willing to let the world burn to achieve his goals as long as his people aren’t hurt in the process.

Then you have C3, the vampire-hunting organization. They view themselves as protectors of humanity and are willing to do anything to defeat Tsubaki, even kidnapping Mahiru to try and convince him to work with them under threat of death.

Then you have how the different Servamps deal with immortality. You have Lily, the Servamp of lust, who takes in and raises kids who are abandoned or abused. If any of the kids died before he could save them, he turns them into his subclasses instead. Then, there is Kuro, the Servamp of sloth. He doesn’t have any subclasses because you can’t know if someone want to be immortal, and it is cruel to force that upon someone. And finally, Lawless, who, for some reason, has started to kill his eves (the people he forms a contract with) once he gets bored with them.

The anime also has some absolutely beautiful animation and music. Plus, all the characters are well written and fun. (Fun fact: the person who sings the opening “Deal With” also voices Tsubaki.)

The atmosphere of the manor is probably the most effective aspects of the story, creating a feeling of isolation and worry as Kate and Emilico try to survive in the mansion. The show starts off pretty subtle, but as it progresses it becomes more and more strange and off-putting. This series is an incredibly interesting, layered mystery, and the horror elements are excellently done.
