About Assassination Classroom Characters - Karasuma Tadaomi

Yes our favourite government official turned PE teacher.

He really exudes the kind but strict soldier type. He's a lot tougher at first, but you really see the kids wear down his exterior throughout the series.

It's clear he has a lot of respect for all the kids, acting like a father figure in some instances. He even trusted them to defy the government which is pretty metal tbh.

We see he has a lot of loyalty, but also a strong moral code. He stands up for his principals, even if it's in a subtle way.

He had a younger sister who died young due to just being physically weak. This experience motivated him to find the strength in others and treat them as equals (I FINALLY found the source of this, p164 Graduation Album)

Before working in intelligence for the Ministry of Defence, he was in the 1st Airborne Brigade. Remember that Japan has no army due to too many politics to go into on this post, so this would be mostly focused on domestic defence. If we set Ass Class in 2012 (due to original shounen jump debut), the age and dates would line up for him to have been involved in operations in Iraq.

It is noted that whilst in the airborne brigade, nobody could even come close to his talent.

His job as an intelligence officer was collecting and analysing data on foreign military and political affairs. He was equally as talented at this role.

His special skill is 'combat techniques in general'. We see how powerful he really is a few times.

Apparently he's won six Ministry of Defence jiu jitsu tournaments and is undefeated.

He was unofficially scouted by S.H.I.E.L.D during his time in the airborne brigade. So ass class confirmed as part of the MCU? (I might have to unpack this)

Karasuma being 'dense' is actually a misconception, both by other characters and by ass class fans. According to Matsui, Karasuma noticed Irina's feelings all along. He's also an ultra observant man, as shown by his career success. He's one of the first to notice Nagisa's abilities, for example.

Actually, a better word to describe him is 'insensitive'. The literal sentence is "insensitivity far beyond the imagination of ordinary people".

His favourite animal is dogs. Unfortunately, dogs bark at him if they ever see him.

He has apparently defeated a black bear in combat. I demand an OVA for this.

Of course we know he eventually returns Irina's feelings... in his own way. As I said in her post, they're a good balance for one another. She drags him out of his hard exterior, and he grounds her.

His love/hate relationship with Korosensei is amazing. It's clear that they do get along and even work well together to an extent, though Karasuma wouldn't admit it ever. Sometimes they bicker like a married couple.

In a nutshell, he failed at keeping his distance from everyone, but he's all the more better for it. He's exactly the kind of guy you'd want at your side in any times of trouble.

Sharing a body was strange. Ten limbs split between the nine of them- thirteen if one counted the tails and seventeen if one counted the fact that their cloak… skirt… whatever could mimic the wings of their other form. 

One which they would change back to after a few moments- there was much less stumbling when it was all fours. Not to mention that if not for the tails they’d have easily toppled over with how many arms they had making them slightly top heavy. Okay more than slightly, it was taking a bit to adjust. 

Honestly the fields of wheat and other crops did nothing to hide them with how tall even this body was, but it was still better than nothing, and they were using the fact it was the middle of nowhere to their shared advantage. 

At least the humanoid- not human, even now their shared power thrummed through the air, leaking from them- form was smaller than their true draconic one. Well, perhaps they shouldn’t call it their true form, when they were once all human, halfa and liminal alike, but they’d long since stopped being such. So perhaps it was in fact true to call the form they had become as their normal state now. 

Actually, could they even separate now? Or had their power melded together so much that it was impossible now, and an attempt would end them? It would at the very least crack their core- 

“What the fuck.” 

Their head lurched, a little too far if the jolt of pain was anything before it melted away. They were all too used to moving their own necks separately. But all of them agreed that discovery could not happen-

It was a child. A preteen with red-orange hair, blue-green eyes, expensive clothing, and most damming of all, large swaths of bruising across his arms. Bruising that did not come from usual play, and looked far too much like hand prints for any of their comfort. 

Someone had very much not been taking care of this child. And that really made them quite angry.

At this point in their evolution, you'd be able to tell right away from the tool claw that they're not Felis Catus Domesticus anymore. I had a specbio project I worked on for a while where I called them something like Felis Narrans I think.

Maybe I'm just a fruit, but whenever I'm reminded that Whit is canonically bitchless I have a mild crisis because tell me how whatever deity is out there blessed this boy with a god-like personality and an adorable face to go along with it and not one, not ONE individual has tried to put a ring on it

its crazy how coming into clinical social work, i really just thought I was up against systems and cycles of trauma....but it turns out i'm up against those two things AND other therapists. the amount of work spent correcting mistakes from other clinicians--whether with clients or during the classroom--is fucking crazy.

i totally get we're all on different journeys in terms of being clinicians. but it is insane finding out day after day of therapists and clinicians saying the worst things ever to clients. demeaning them, telling them "it's all in their head", the racism and the ableism and harm that is caused. like no fucking wonder people are afraid to seek therapy (on top of the accessibility issues). while i'm a little biased and think that at the very least clinical social work training focuses on viewing people within their environments (so not engaging in the medical/individualist models of practice that a lot of counseling programs focus on), that doesn't mean it gives every person the skills to be an effective therapist. i'm also not saying i'm the best clinician ever--I'm literally in training--but boy! it is jarring seeing how some of my peers interact in class and wondering...is that how you are with your clients??

my social work program at the very least also has a focus on anti-racism, but i know students from other programs and some of them don't even mention racism AT ALL and focus entirely on diagnosing people "correctly", or finding the perfect form of therapy to use on a client. but man, what none of these programs teach are basic life skills. wanting to be a clinician isn't enough, especially considering that an inhumane amount of people in my program are 1. so nervous about making mistakes that they lose scope of their practice 2. have so much internalized racism/white guilt to work thru 3. or they have absolutely no listening skills.

again, im not trying to make it seem like I am the number 1 clinician in the world ever. I don't even have a psych background or bachelor's in social work. my reasons for going into social work are quite selfish (I want a job that is very flexible, easily transferable, and can be done in different contexts), and the helping people part is just a plus. i'm just saying it's very jarring seeing other people in training and realizing they too are working with clients. i have conversation after conversation about these issues with other BIPOC/queer/marginalized clinicians, so I know i'm not the only person worried about some of the people that will be out of this program in a few years practicing on their own or with vulnerable populations.

Anyway! With art class starting up again, I decided to do the proper thing for once and practice on purpose. Next step is find some screencaps and practice painting metal. I've never been comfortable with painting stuff but time to get over that if I want to illustrate that one fic the way I want to.
