done with the biggest part of the semester: examining the final capstone project defense of my students. also the smaller part: grading other courses.
and now having a (too) long weekend. i might need to add a new show to my watching list for a sweet distraction. but as you know it, the lesser the irl pressure, the lesser the need to have an intense drama watching session.
but also. need to get back to my "obsessing over home school and step by step" session.

Does MBTI test change over time?
It's not a silly question, but a deep dive into how much life experience we have and how accurate our answers are to the test!
The first time I took the MBTI test, I neutrally answered most questions. And the second time, I fooled myself by responding the way I wanted to be and not how I am!
I discussed this with a friend, who encouraged me to retake the test. So I did it, and wow! Now things resonate a lot, and I am scared. The test is part of an "academic mentoring" after my Ph.D. cuz guess what?! I'm freaking myself trying to figure out life after academia hahaha.
I was used to the INFP label, although It didn't resonate 100% with me. This year I'm embracing the freaking controlling INTJ that I am! No wonder I lasted too long in academia and still want to return to the human ecology lab.!
There are SO many things to figure out still! I'm working hard to find or create a path this year! The good news is that I'm finally starting to feel like me again. Day by day, the burnout and the apathy from a couple of years ago are fading away.

have made the perhaps questionable decision of presenting to my committee on this friday instead of two weeks from now, so I've gotta deal with that

There is like a specific type of sassy that can only exist in academic papers. Sometimes it’s very subtle jab on proponents of a theory the author is trying to dispute and sometimes it’s laughing at a possiblity of even considering the opposite theory using every onuce of vitriol and malice that is in their body. I love both it’s the most exquisite entertainment

Problems with the ‘lack of novelty’ criterion: most good ideas get reinvented multiple times before they catch on. They need the reinforcement of repetition to become established in a culture.
Problems with the ‘obviousness’ criterion: most good ideas are obvious in retrospect
Championship: to accept a paper, we ask for “champions” to fight for the paper. But being a champion is hard work, and if there is no champion, the paper gets rejected
Conflict of interest: arises from the combination of the low acceptance rates with the fact that many (if not most) program committee members also have papers in the pool being considered
Double blind review: it creates a position of power with no accountability

Chaotic academia
Haphazard routines and having a bit of a messy schedule. (And room...) Occasionally being a bit forgetful and not quite understanding yourself but loving yourself anyway. Always losing your pens and pencils. Your cup of coffee somehow always being cold by the time you get around to drinking it.
