ALRIGHT okay I will attempt to explain this to the best of my ability, which is currently being held together by tape and coffee

so I have a long running post philippi story focusing on the octavian-antony divorce arc conflict and it's heavily dramatized and full of dead people. it's one part historical, one part my own invention, and one part fucking around with ideas (or the lack there of) in movies about antony and cleopatra. many of which are bad! however. there is a bad one that's actually good. like, I wouldn't recommend it except that I talk about it constantly.

it's the 1953 movie, Serpent of the Nile and I have not known peace since watching it. it's one of the more interesting takes on antony and cleopatra (TO ME), and more importantly: I'm obsessed with the plot point where antony helps lucilius escape egypt to warn octavian.

this scene is partially inspired by that! this scene is partially inspired by several things, but that's the one to mention bc I haven't published any of this story except for the periodic scene I've drawn for fun so listing the rest of it will not add to this experience and also I’m very sleepy right now

the egyptian wall backgrounds in the first page and the last page are of a tomb wall painting, the third page uses an illustration of the death of antony for shakespeare's antony and cleopatra, and on the second page is actually my own painting of antony and cleopatra after giambattista pittoni's painting of antony, cleopatra, and the famous pearl incident

additionally, that last page. the floor. that's a relief commemorating the battle of actium. I'd been reading about depictions of actium and it is. intriguing, especially since my first thought wrt to all of that is usually abt the bodies in the water and how they'll never be buried or antony's parthian fuck up setting the stage for all of this.

Can’t wait to see Viv tackle the concept of redemption for Hazbin surrounding if people who are bad are deserving of it or able to change, because we all know Helluva is certainly doing a bang-up job with it’s emotional rifts, with amazing lessons such as “If someone is constantly verbally abusing you and not respecting your boundaries and treating you like utter trash overall, it’s perfectly okay as long as they’re trying to toughen you up! That means they care!”

As well as the AMAZING heartfelt lesson that is “If you have a parent who constantly neglects you and puts their own selfish needs before you without trying to properly connect with you or improve, CUT THEM SOME SLACK! Let them make mistakes, and be grateful that they love you in the first place because as long as they genuinely care about you, that makes it okay!”

Man I can’t wait to see what toxic manipulative ass lesson they come up with next! 😀

Do you still like Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss? I do, but mainly because of your Chelsa stuff.

Also, I don’t know all the facts, but I personally believe that Vivziepop is, at least, somewhat innocent. I mean, being draconic and somewhat with the contract is wrong, but… this was the person who almost got cancelled do to CP. WHICH SHE NEVER CREATED. So pardon my skepticism for that.

Also, this just highlights my problem with Cancel Culture: It’s stupid and toxic. I mean, yes, J.K Rowling is a bitch, but at the same time, Scott Cawthon having his donations doxxed, and being harassed because he supported Republicans is stupid (but I will concede the point about Pro-Life). Especially if it’s over an old tweet or viewpoint. It’s in the past. People grow, learn. J.K Rowling not withstanding.

I will say after rumors of what happened to Hazbin Hotel (it not getting more than a season... i really hope that's untrue), and after the recent Helluva Boss episode, my interest has decreased.

So previous stuff has been confirmed untrue, especially the CP stuff. That was taken out of context and that was also over a decade ago. Recent stuff however, I have had some things confirmed. She is biased and prefers to rub elbows with famous broadway actors despite the fact that they're so much more costly than indie voice actors.

On Vivziepop's twitter she said "I have so much to say but can’t yet, what I can say is I’m thankful to A24 for how Hazbin is being done and I’m so saddened seeing the treatment of animated shows on so many platforms this year. Glad that Helluva will remain in my custody forever, and lucky I can make it indie."

and

"I truly believe independent animation is a way to safely give people what they want and not be decided by a bigger business with different values. It’s not easy to have a thriving indie project but it’s possible! Support indie animation you love and help it gain bigger life!"

With "I'm thankful to A24 for how Hazbin is being done" and "I'm glad Helluva will remain in my custody forever, and that it can stay indie" and "not be decided by a bigger business with different values" ? Those are suspicious things to say. She is talking about HBO Max right now, but A24 is also a big company, despite it typically letting the creators have more control, Hazbin Hotel will most likely be put on the Hulu streaming service itself. So her words are ironic and confusing.

She still seems to support Hazbin Hotel, and claims they needed animators for Hazbin/Helluva as though she's still in charge. So rumors about her not being head honcho of Hazbin Hotel may not be true.

But she is looking to expand her animation & compositing team, which is a yellow flag. That either means the team members are simply overworked and need more help with production, .....orrrrrrrrr people got fed up and left, and now they need to fill in these empty positions ASAP. Again, that's unconfirmed speculation, but... it's happened before with other studios.

We also all seem to forget she's an amateur who is still learning how to write and run a studio. It is highly likely she is in over her head, what with trying to bounce between almost three projects at once (her AMVS, the Zoophobia short, then Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel) It's taken her some time to focus. She is capable of being a poor writer, making mistakes, and sometimes being bad, and people should be able to criticize her for it. But she should also not go through depressive episodes after mass cyberbullying on the internet. Good god people!

P.S. Republicans tend to be pro-life, anti-women, anti-POC and anti-LGBTQ+, depending on how far right they are. Doxxing and life threats I will never condone, but people have a right to be upset when they believe someone is against them for supporting people that don't have their best interest in heart or mind. (Especially if their support money is being used by that person against them. Trump's vice president was an adamant anti-LGBTQ+ activist; amongst a long list of other bad things Trump did as president)

There’s just the matter of the mastermind movie star to deal with last, and his signature glove is finally off for this one, the ionized air-glow of his patron’s energies spewing from his perpetual wounds. Wonder if he remembers he’s up against birds, though.

The Land of Paz

Our current society is plagued in a history of inequity and injustice. Marginalized members of society do not have the access needed to grow, thrive, and survive! “In order to rise from its own ashes a phoenix first must burn.” Butler (1993). These are the words that motivated me to create a new society, out of the ash from todays. These are the words that helped me to gather other like minds to rise up.

I envision a society opposite of our current. My society will be called, Land of Paz. It can be found 20 years from now off of a remote island. This is a future society full of sweeping landscapes, purple hills, blue skies, crystal clear waters and evergreen forest. There will be many species of animals and plants in the forest that are adapted to living there. Everyone has the same rights and opportunities. This will be a utopian society where people of all backgrounds are able to collaborate and live together harmoniously. Land of Paz will offer global citizenship to the ‘pure of heart.’ This society will be free of crime, famine, disease, pollution, domination and corruption. All racist, xenophobes, homophobes, supremacist, and vile humans have no place in the Land of Paz. Totalitarianism is exiled in this society. A protective layer shields the land from anyone who is hate-fueled.

Throughout history patriarchy has dominated society. In Land of Paz, I envision an elimination of any form of totalitarianism and an equitable distribution of wealth and power for all humanity within the community. The fundamental goal of this society is to end dominance, supremacy and promote unity and solidarity. In this utopia, everyone has the same freedoms, liberties, and responsibilities. There is no discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In this society, people are not marginalized because of race, class, status, gender or sexual orientation.

Land of Paz will be run by a public-run government which thrives off universal healthcare for everyone. There will be no crisis from global warming since all human activities are sustainable in this society, which will help it to thrive and survive. Conservation is essential in this society. We use the lands offerings as our nutrition, we harvest, respect, and treat our land as a living entity. To protect humanity, creatures, and ecosystems, it is essential to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and adapt to the effects of climate change. Improved air quality and less water needed for energy generation are two additional benefits of solar power. In the Land of Paz, our sustainability is provided by solar energy and ‘Paz Herbs.’ Our solar energy produces a living molecule that triples the growth production of our plants, and one herbs. Our ‘Paz Herbs’ (peace herbs) are infused with vitamins and minerals that promote well-being, energy, fights off disease and results in longer lifespan. Our waters are the fountain of youth. The same molecule filtrates into the water supplies and contributes to the growth and sustainability of this society. All ‘Paz’citizens work together to sustain it.

 Education is essential in this society and shall be free. There will be fewer demands on students to get perfect marks and more on learning the subject matter. Compared to what we're witnessing now, students are being forced to study subjects that aren't of interest to them but serve the government's agenda, tests and exams are racially and socially class bias. Personal growth and a firmer commitment to upholding universal freedoms and rights will be central goals of education in Land of Paz. Education must support the upholding of paz (peace) and the spread of mutual appreciation, tolerance, and friendship among all living creatures. With personal growth and development lessons, we will encourage young people to follow their passions and learn to think critically. Students will take greater pride in their education if they are given options from which to choose. Additionally, there will be no memory erasure of history. Critical Race Theory will be indoctrinated into the educational institutions and lessons implemented into the curriculum of K-12.

The Land of Paz is a society in which social awareness and love for all humanity takes the place of religious doctrine and ideology. The primary objective would be for the populace to abandon their various religions and unite under a shared commitment to values of love, prosperity, peace, equality, and spirituality. We will apply these words into our ‘Paz’ morale, “All that you touch you change. All that you change changes you...God is change.” Butler (1993). These words will serve to fuel our society with hope. As a result, there will be fewer opportunities for animosity and opposition, and more incentive for people to work together toward a single goal: a world without hatred. God's love will guide our interactions with one another. Music and dance will serve as the culture within this society. It will be what keeps our faith and hope strong and what continues to bind us to our ancestors. Our ancestors will be closely connected to all ‘paz’ humanity and will serve to guide and ground us.

One thing I appreciate Helluva doing is how it establishes Stolas as a good, sweet person but doesn't excuse his actions.

A lot of people have been saying for some time that Helluva turned Stolas into a sad owl boi, which true, but at the same time it still works as that is who Stolas is at his core. He's depressed, repressed, and is dealing with some shitty stuff at the moment.

HOWEVER, even though he never means to hurt anyone, it doesn't change the fact that he still does. The show in season one held him accountable as a loving father to Octavia, still held him accountable when he unintentionally ignored her discomfort and not wanting to be there.

In the new Music Video it does the same with Blitz. We now know why he pursued Blitz, why he was so comfortable cheating on Stella, and why he was so forward with his dirty talk. But misunderstanding or no, it doesn't change the fact that Stolas still screwed up during his arrangement with Blitz. Even if he didn't mean to and thought it was something they both wanted, it doesn't change the fact that he still took advantage of a power imbalance and ignored the hints that Blitz may not have been as happy as he was.

And the show makes him take accountability for that. It has him address the fact that he was wrong, and that he's going to do everything in his power to make amends. Even if that means never seeing Blitz again.

I think that's such an important lesson in media. That even if you don't realize you hurt someone until it's too late, it doesn't change the fact that you still hurt them. You can be a genuinely good person who means no harm, but if you hurt someone you hurt someone and you need to take responsibility for that.

(Also it must be said that Blitz screws up too. He doesn't comprehend that Stolas can get hurt in any way, so that leads to him thinking he can do whatever he wants with and to Stolas and that Stolas will still be there. He doesn't think he needs to worry about Stolas's feelings which can and will probably cause problems in the future. Also it has to be said that even though Blitz does see Stolas as unreachable and above him, it doesn't change the fact that Blitz too took advantage of a married mans attraction to him in order to steal from him. Also Stolas wasn't Blitz's ONLY option to the human world, it was simply the EASIEST. But Blitz has been being called out by other characters so I think that's why the fandom is easier on him.)

Basically, both Stolas and Blitz are equally as guilty. But I love how Helluva sets them both as sympathetic, caring characters and yet still holds them responsible for their actions.

I feel like theres differences between Osmodeus defending Fizz to mammon and Stolas not defending blitz to Osmodeus that people don't mention

Stolas started hiding when Ozzy brought up his divorce and Octavia. When Blitz originally started talking up Stolas looked concerned, he didn't immediately hide back. He's ashamed of breaking up his family, and Octavia is regularly upset at him about this so it's understandable that he hid out of guilt.

Goetias (even though Osmodeus is also one) seem to be held to far higher social standards. Stella's brother even says that his actions aren't like a Goetia. He has had the guilt of what he did to his daughter AND the shame of what he did to his family by cheating, not necessarily of blitz himself.

Osmodeus was shouting at his relative equal, and as they're both very high up in hell (notably higher than Stolas) people can't really do much against them, even if their image is hurt. Stolas is in a far more topleable position as he's essentially just nobility, not in the monarchy.

Stolas and blitz ARENT in an established relationship. Fizz and Ozzy live together, they're around each other constantly, they're a domestic couple and committed. Blitz and stolas, even if they want that ARE NOT that. Ozzy is obviously more likely to stand up for his established partner than Stolas is for a guy he's on a first date with, who doesn't even seem overly into said date
