Tumblr media
“Why do we even have a strawberry field?”
“Because…Demeter, I guess?”
It was mid summer, and you’d forced Percy to join you in picking strawberries. It was his first summer staying at camp, and since you were his closest friend, you showed him all the things you loved about this time of year. Today, that thing was strawberry picking.
“I mean, camp has some of the best strawberries I’ve ever tasted.” You started calmly, imagining the flavor of your favorite fruit, “You’re gonna love ‘em, I promise.”
Percy nodded, half believing you as he reached down for another strawberry. He didn’t care so much about picking berries, finding it a rather simple activity at a camp for demigods, but he listened to each word you spoke as if it would be your last. “I’m trusting you on this one, pollen-head.”
In the time Percy had been at camp, you had become one of his closer friends, outside of Annabeth and Grover. You’d met in his first few days when he wandered off during the bonfire, which you often did to get some alone time, leading him to find you just by the edge of the forest.
“Hello?” Percy called, clutching Riptide as he approached a moving figure. He had thought that, in his wandering, he wouldn’t find anyone by the forest; but apparently he was wrong. When you turned to him, his fist unclenched, releasing Riptide back into his pocket when he met your tearful gaze.
“Sorry for scaring you.” You chuckled, wiping your tears as you returned your eyes to the dark, unmoving forest. “I’m not really used to people finding me here.”
“Well, there’s a first time for everything, I guess.” The boy returned awkwardly, sitting next to you in an uncertain manner.
Usually, if Percy ran into someone crying, he would have pretended not to notice and walked away. But for whatever reason, and he couldn’t tell you why, he sat next to you that night; thus beginning a year-long friendship.
“What’cha thinkin’ about, fish face?” Your voice resonated in his head, pulling him away from the wistful memory.
“The day we met, when I should’ve been at my first bonfire.” He chuckled, looking at you with that cheeky grin, “I actually think about it a lot.”
“Woah there partner, you may start thinking we’re really friends.” You teased, giving him a light push as you gathered your last berries. The boy chuckled half-heartedly, not knowing why the words made him feel so off. Somewhat confused, he followed behind you with his own basket, coming to a stop as you sat under a great oak tree. “But…I guess I think about it too.”
He journeyed toward you, carefully putting his basket next to yours before settling at your side. “Oh? And here I thought we were pretending to be friends.” Percy tried to joke, nudging you gently.
“Yeah,” You sighed, “But you know, you really are a good friend Percy. I’m glad you found me in the forest that day.”
Percy’s heart pounded harder in his chest, stunning him with a sense of alarm. You looked at him with that gentle smile, and he felt light as air, staring back at you like the world was anew. A new feeling, unfamiliar and odd, wracked his body like a thousand waves. “Yeah…Yeah, I’m glad too.” He breathed, just above a whisper.
You raised a brow at his change in nature, shaking your head with a light chuckle.
Percy Jackson, you thought.
What a weird kid.

Here's a bit of an odd one, how would the children of Skeleton act and look like?
For example, I'd imagine the children of HorrorTale being slightly chubbier than most children, due to the fact that Willow and Oak continuously feeding them more than they need, to make sure they never deal with the starvation they suffered with.
Or, Wine's children being more refined than the rest, with impeccable balance and fashion sense.
I guess another way to phrase it, what would be the ideal child for each of the skeletons?
Undertale Sans - The kid has high self-confidence and loves pranking people. He can be a little shit at time because Sans encouraged him a little too much to prank people. They're also a hardcore science-fiction reader.
Undertale Papyrus - Energetic, very self-confident and screaming every time they're excited. They're extraverted and tend to go towards people easily. Unfortunately, they also took that bad Papyrus habit to not tell when something is wrong and just shake it off.
Underswap Sans - The kid is chill and tired of his father's energy, like many people before them... Blue is not normally constituted.
Underswap Papyrus - He thinks he's cursed at this point because his kid is hyperactive like Blue was and seems to never be able to hold in place. He doesn't understand why Blue's kid is totally the opposite. He's pretty sure they have a DNA problem at this point! What if they got swapped during their conception? ... Oh wait.
Underfell Sans - His kid's first word was "Fuck" and he never stopped saying it since. The kid is chaotic and will purposely try to fight with people just because they can. The fact his dad is encouraging them definitively doesn't help. They have a strong father-son bond though.
Underfell Papyrus - It's the perfect kid, very polite, and happy to help with anything. For the 12 first years of their life at least. After that hormone strikes HARD and they become a rebel, answering their dad and screaming back without fear, searching for fights with everyone and trying to prove the world they deserve to be in it. Edge is going to have a hard time with teenage hood. At least he can finally realize what he made his brother live through at the same age. Red keeps saying it's karma.
Horrortale Sans - The kid is a bit weird and feral, sometimes randomly acting like an animal to Willow's despair. Oak doesn't see what's wrong with that. The kid is for sure well fed however. Oak got obsessed with that as soon as he became a dad, and even once his kid is an adult, he's staring if they don't finish their plate, wondering if they're dying or something.
Horrortale Papyrus - Willow did anything he could to give the kid the life he couldn't have, giving them thousands of differents activities to try, and sports at school, and creative activities. The kid has now bad anxiety because he never grew having one second to themselves. Willow feels terrible he overpressured them. That's fine, the kid also loves his father and reminds him from time to time he also has anxiety too.
Swapfell Sans - The kid is a little pest. Nox was a bit too overprotective with the child, giving them what they wanted and making sure they were well protected. All of this turns against him after a while as the kid doesn't listen to anyone, even him eventually, is arrogant as hell and thinks they're the center of the universe. Great job, Nox.
Swapfell Papyrus - Chaotic bastard could only create another chaotic bastard. The kid is a prankster, a problem and a disaster all at the same time. They don't even do it on purpose. They can't do anything right, everything, even the simplest task turns horribly wrong. The kid is somehow also incredibly lucky and escapes all the consequences. Rus created a monster.
Fellswap Gold Sans - That's when Wine realizes he has a problem with education because the kid turns exactly like Coffee did, a sweetheart craving for affection but with so many insecurities even he is overwhelmed. He tries to fix it though this time. He's still overprotective and ready to kill anyone looking more than three seconds at his child lol, but he's getting better at it. But looks down anyway. The kid has a high fashion sense though, yes indeed.
Fellswap Papyrus - The kid is scared of everything and his father can't really help with that because he is also scared of everything. They both use the other as a lifebelt and so they are very fusional, but to the point it can be unhealthy. But they will learn to be better eventually. It's just going to be HARD.

Skizz Week 2, Day 3: Fight/Fun
@skizzlemanweek
968 words, no warnings, Skizz, Doc
“What have you called me over for, Doc?” Skizz asked as the two of them stepped through the nether portal.
“I heard you’re a big fan of da win’ charges,” the German replied. “I have a new machine that I’ve already tested and I thought you might like to see it in action.
“Whoa,” Skizz said wondrously, looking up at the tall structure. “What’s it do?” He sounded like a little kid.
“I’ll explain once we go up, we need to get up top anyways to see it.”
Skizz was handed a rock climbing harness to step into. Doc then clipped one of the carabiners to an industrial pulley, and another to a bright red safety line. He also pulled all the straps of the harness tight.
“Hey, you’re gonna cut off circulation to important parts!”
Doc raised an eyebrow. “You wanna wanna take the fall down? Okay.” He reached for the straps again, but Skizz swatted his hands away with a beat of his wing.
“No touchy-touchy.”
Doc’s laugh sounded almost like a scoff. “You’re so strange, Skizzleman.”
“I grow on you, like a mould.”
“I’m sure Impulse would agree.”
“Skizz giggled. “Nine days out of ten, yeah.”
“You all ready?” Doc was turning dials and cranks on a mechanical console.
“As I’ll ever be.”
“Okay, hold on to the redrope if you want. It won’t do anything.”
“Real reassur-AHHH!” Skizz’s retort was cut off by the winch pulling him up at a horrifically fast clip. His knuckles were white as he gripped the red safety rope.
“DOC YOU SUUUUUCK!!!” He screamed below.
Doc’s maniacal laughter could be heard over the wind rushing in his ears.
The pair zipped up the structure, passing by large matrices of redstone that Skizz wouldn't hope to understand in a million years.
The winch slowed down when they were level with some of the mountaintops. There was a metal platform that the two of them stepped onto.
“You can let go of da rope now,” Doc said, smirking.
Skizz took a deep breath, releasing his lifeline. “Dude, that freaking sucked.”
“Funny, Impulse said you’re an adrenaline junkie, I thought you’d enjoy da ride.”
“Didn’t occur to you that maybe some of us normal people might want to take the elevator?”
“Dat is da elevator.”
Skizz laughed nervously as Doc unclipped him from the winch and to the safety wires.
Doc gave a quick tour and summary of the machinery on this level.
“So we are up here because dis is my wind charge farm. You see over dere is da glass enclosure with a breeze inside. Dis piston can basically catch da charges fired at da iron golem. Dey’re held in stasis and I accumulate them in dis spot.”
“So these aren’t wind charges we can harvest and throw ourselves?” Skizz asked, watching the breeze shoot windballs into the glass chamber.
“No, at da moment, I can’t only isolate the charges into one spot, but moving dem a distance in dis state isn’t something I’ve figured out yet.”
“Yet,” Skizz chuckled.
Doc just smirked. “Yes, yet. Hivemind is very powerful, wit all our minds combined.”
“If you can’t move the charges and don’t want to make them throwable objects, what do you do with them? And why am I here? I’m just the town jester!”
“I remember you were very enthusiastic about using boats and fishing poles for transport earlier in da season. Dis makes dat technique look like playing jump rope.”
Skizz’s eyes widened. “Seriously?”
“Dead. I can get stacks of charges here, get in a boat, activate them, and go over two hundred thousand meters in da air.”
“Holy moly,” Skizz breathed in amazement. He turned to Doc, eyes sparkling. “Please tell me that you brought me here to send me to space.”
Doc only grinned in response. Skizz cheered.
~~~~~
They got into a large oak boat made for four, Doc and Skizz on either end of the boat and some scientific equipment piled into the middle, some analog, some electronic.”
Doc gave all their altitude and accelerometer devices a final check. “Okay, I think we’re ready for takeoff.”
“Hell yes!” Skizz hopped into the boat and strapped himself into the modified seat.
Doc pressed the button to align everything, the boat shifting slightly as everything got pushed into position with pistons. He gestured to a very Dr. Frankenstein looking lever. “Skizz, want to do de honors?”
“It would be an honor.” Skizz grasped the handle. “Wanna count down and I pull on ‘go’?”
“Sure. Three… two… one… go.”
Skizz wrenched the lever down. A moment later, a deafening WHOOOOOOOM sounded and everything in the boat became glued to floor with the G force of their liftoff.
“Jeez!” Skizz yelled, peering over the edge of the boat. They were already so far up, he could see the edges of Joe’s Hermit Homdel.
“According to dis” – Doc gestured to the equipment – “we passed da max height you were getting with da fishing rods within three seconds.”
“That’s crazy, dude,” Skizz laughed. Suddenly, he gasped. “That’s the hourglass! It looks so small from up here!”
“Da hourglass is not small!” Doc said indignantly. “Da hourglass is a monument to suffering on da server because no one will let me dupe sand!”
~~~~~
After a while, the novelty of watching the landscape below them shrinking wore off, and Skizz looked over at Doc, who was finished examining his equipment and noting things down. The goat-creeper-man hybrid was watching Skizz, seemingly happy he was enjoying the trip, but definitely looking a little awkward.
They still hadn’t finished going up, and the devices tracking their position and altitude was telling him it was already four minutes of vertical travel.
This was going to take a while.
“So Doc… how’s the German basketball scene these days?”

IN THESE TIMES
COLUMBUS, OHIO —The event was billed as “Holi-drag Storytime” and the electronic flyer asked would-be audience members if they were “ready for a family-friendly, LGBTQ+ holiday tradition?” It was going to be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church and tickets were $10, which included hot chocolate, a goody bag and a candy cane. The school sponsoring and hosting sold about 1,000 tickets and raised thousands of dollars for a local LGBTQ charity. The event was canceled mere hours before it was set to begin.
That Saturday morning, more than 50 people, including members of the Proud Boys and the Patriot Front, stood along the road leading to the church in tactical gear, holding guns and wearing face masks. They chanted “life, liberty, victory” and “reclaim America.” Some gave the Nazi salute.
“They showed up with army weapons for an event that was for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade,” recalls Mikayla Denise, one of the drag queens scheduled to perform. “They were trying to induce fear into our hearts by coming around wearing that army gear, making us feel unsafe, making us feel like they want to hurt or kill us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Drag Queen Story Time Reading Held In Austin, Texas on March 11.  Texas Republicans have introduced several bills that seek to deem any affiliation with drag shows as sexually oriented businesses.)
“These people are coming to spew hate when we are creating a positive, beautiful space for kids with the support of their parents and teachers. I always wanted to be an educator. When I perform in the schools, I can use my art form to connect with young people. I didn’t grow up seeing folks that look like me living truthfully and honestly, and that’s why I do the story hour.”
Cheryl Ryan, manager of Red Oak Community School, the elementary school hosting the event, blamed Columbus police for forcing organizers to cancel the show. “I spent a week calling our police department and leaving voicemails about the reports we had seen,” Ryan told The Nation.
According to Ryan, the police presence was minimal, while police Sgt. Steven Dyer was recorded high-fiving a member of the Proud Boys and saying, “I’m here to support their right to protest.”
“In the end, our performers felt unsafe without a police presence, while our [community] safety team felt unsafe with a police presence,” Ryan said. This situation has played out more and more in cities across the nation this past year. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, in the first six months of 2022, the Proud Boys showed up to 28 separate LGBTQ and reproductive justice events. In June 2022 — celebrated as Pride Month — the activity increased.

His love for stealth and secrecy got him into a bit more trouble than most kids. While other children had been busy blowing their allowances on the newest video game or action figure, Jimin had been saving up for something major. A small but carefully designed polaroid. Similar to the ones teenagers in the movies consider 'vintage'. He'd saved all one-hundred and seventy-two dollars for that rickety thing.
He'd spent hours snapping innocent pictures with his newly acquired, first love. Bees buzzing quiet in the hives above his little grounded tree fort, some ants marching on by during a planned and directed motive to store food for winter days, and even a few quick pics of his favorite dog, Ki.
For a while, things had been calm on his camera roll. A few blurred mess ups, but it had all been part of his learning experience. Things had been calm.
Quiet.
Until puberty hit.
His innocent images faded and once foliaged film strips had been slowly swapped with more.. how would you say...
Provocative activities.
Thousands of snaps, thanks to his college one-night stands had been plastered on his dorm walls. Each woman having a different set and sight to feast like-minded starving artist's minds upon. Some had been tied down, ankles cuffed to their twin sized bed, one of Jimin's belts practically shoved down her throat, etc.
His sexual needs dripping into the pot of his once innocent honeyed hobby. Narrowed and darkened eyes now guide the unsuspecting hands of his own creations and motives, as he's led blindly through the rest of his campus years. Taking in women, in exchange for more beautiful creations of his own. Women ranging all from each sides of the spectrum. His selfish deeds had given the girls unconscious boosts of confidence. He'd been titled "The Flasher".
Some had even agreed to the act. Allowing him to dress them up in all sort of attire and -unattire- until his heart's end. Some sensual black lace coiled around their beautiful sculpted figures, while some had preferred to be in the complete nude.
They never complained. Some were even asking for copies after their scandalous acts. The women had been pretty kind to his hobby.
Once he'd finished grad school, he'd decided to move into a small little town on the outskirts from the city. Nature calling, rather than his boss. He preferred it that way. Not having to listen to anymore dramatic, stretched college sex stories of who fucked who. His mind had been at peace.
Until a certain little lady stepped into his sight.
The white tailed summer's dress cascaded down her elongated figure. Half exposed legs stretch further than the he could see. A pair of sparkly, white heels to match.
Certainly wasn't a usual sight for the south.
His breath rolls out in a few hushed chuckles, wiping the excess paint from his feather brush. He watches the young woman haul the minimal of her suitcases towards the neighboring house, plopping the load onto the bouncy oak planks of Miss Kim's old porch.
He lowers himself down to the little padded chair he'd sat out for his creative activities, knee bending at the joint as he relaxes a bit. The cool winds of summer brush along his lightly tanned skin like his brush strokes upon the once blank canvas.
His eyes train upon the newly announced stranger's slim figure, watching as she struggles searching for the key the previous owner had hid. A chuckle rolls from his breath, mind wandering to his faded memories of the previous tenant.
A few moments drip by, before he mumbles a few, familiar words to her un-aided struggles.
"Flower pot."
After a few more seconds, he watches the expression of her features shine like the sun. Lighting up like the fourth of July, as your hands place themselves right where he'd silently explained.
A smile creeps his sharp features.
Interesting.

Let me know if you'd like to be added to the taglist!
(Tag list = You'll get notified when this fic is released.)
Again, this will be a drawn out fic, rather than a short and sweet one. There will be LOTS of heavy tension and avoidance of certain.. ahem.
Feelings.

Some poems I’ve written over the past two years
The Fragile Geisha
I bump into the wooden bookshelf,
And instinctively grab
For the mug at its top, painted with
A scarlet-robed geisha.
The clattering of ceramic skin against oak
Fails to disturb her, and despite the danger
Her eyes remain closed,
Her expression calm.
The arrow she holds pointed towards
The floor that nearly destroyed her.
The same as the last night we drank,
Together,
Of green tea and the moon.
A cheap teapot had whistled, and as I ran,
The old wooden floor
Creaked in complaint.
Despite the chilly autumnal wind, the water
Seemed hotter than normal.
As if it wished to warm
The rest of the aging house as well.
I filled her mug to the brim,
A trickling stream
Scorching ceramic skin
As it mixed with powder and leaves.
And I waited for her to prepare the tea
Under the moon's light.
Deus Ex Machina
Whirring, Ticking
The ancient machine activates
Intent on granting
An old man's dying wish.
“Eternal Prosperity”
Would come at the cost of too many
For mankind to reach!
Set on a path that leads to
Self-destruction,
They’ve forgotten
His first wish, his reason
To bring the machine,
The mechanical god
To life long ago.
To bring a young girl
Who'd perished long ago
Back to her father's side.
Wishing for decades, he forgot
The face of the one who drove him;
If only he knew!
She'd never fallen, and returned
Changed, but alive.
If he would only look in her eyes
One final time,
He’d know his wish was granted...
Unexpected Downpour
I open my mouth, but not a word flows out.
What can I say? How can it be done right?
I’m just not sure.
One thousand words pour through my mind,
But which to choose? And what to ignore?
It’s all too much.
I close, leaving my torrential thoughts behind.
You’ll never know the words I cast aside.
Perhaps I should apologize,
For being too afraid of what could be
And whether you’d understand.
Or perhaps it’s better left unsaid.
The storm within my mind rages on,
And my lovely day is ruined by rain.
Star-Crossed Midnight
The clock ticks on,
Gears turning along,
As moonlight shines through the pane.
And there I sit,
Letting blankets shift,
As I enjoy the ending of day.
The blackened sky
Holds stars snuffed out by lights
From the streets so far below.
How I wish that I could see
That vast tapestry
Of glimmering sparks above;
Those eternal lights
Piercing through twilight
In the forest I once had called home.
But the cold, dark skies
Of this peaceful night
Are everything the city knows.
And as I rest,
It feels like the clock slows.
The Sakura Tree
A thousand flowers bloom,
But each will find their doom,
In one week, countless petals
That shall wilt far too soon.
Blossoms holding tiny lives
That will fade before my eyes,
And I wonder if this really is how
Things are meant to be.
Are all such beautiful things
Destined to merely fade away?
Only my memories keeping them
From disappearing into the gray?
If only I could hold them close
And keep each one alive;
Perhaps by my fervent wish
These blooms may yet cease to die.
But in a way, I suppose
There is a point to all this death;
It is in this fragile artistry
That these flowers are their best.
So I’ll let each life continue on
And someday disappear.
I’ll enjoy their fleeting grace and charm
Until they bloom again next year.
Impulsive Desire
When you’re seventeen, and in love
with that boy you hooked up with last month
who always smiles and laughs at your jokes
no matter how bad they are,
do you really get into
that cheap car your dad bought you
and drive over to that one kid
who says they’ll give you a tattoo?
Do you hand them a quick sketch,
and a couple of names,
and ask for your love to be memorialized
in blood and black ink?
You’re so smitten, at the moment,
you don’t even consider how
in a few years, you’ll be over him
and wishing the oath on your arm could be erased.
And sure, it could. But then
you’d have to think about it:
the words he’d said that night,
and how you’d thought you could devote yourself at seventeen.
History has a way of catching up
no matter what you do;
but such brazen, impulsive acts
keep it from having to move at all.
You fueled your fire with bloodstained ink.
Now, though it’s burnt out, the cinders always remain.

The Evolution of Kids Entertainment Centers: Creating Fun-Filled Learning Spaces
Tumblr media
Kids entertainment centers have undergone a remarkable transformation over the years, shifting from simple play areas to multifaceted spaces designed to nurture children's creativity, learning, and social skills. These centers now offer a wide range of engaging activities that stimulate both the mind and body.
1. Diverse Activities for Comprehensive Development
Modern kids entertainment centers are all about providing a diverse range of activities that cater to various aspects of a child's development. These activities include interactive games, arts and crafts, indoor sports, imaginative play zones, educational workshops, school party thousand oaks,  and much more. By offering a variety of experiences, these centers encourage children to explore their interests and talents, fostering comprehensive development.
2. Integration of Technology for Enhanced Engagement
Incorporating technology into kids entertainment centers has revolutionized the way children interact and learn. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) games, interactive screens, and digital learning tools are now common features. These technological elements not only make the experience more engaging but also align with the tech-savvy generation's preferences.
3. Educational Focus for Learning Through Play
Modern kids entertainment centers such as Kids World gift cards strive to be more than just places to burn off energy; they aim to be educational spaces. They integrate learning into play through interactive exhibits, themed learning zones, and workshops that introduce children to various subjects in a playful and entertaining manner. This approach fosters a love for learning and encourages children to explore new concepts.
4. Safety and Hygiene as Top Priorities
Ensuring the safety and hygiene of the play areas is a paramount concern for kids entertainment centers. Soft, padded surfaces, child-proofing measures, regular sanitization, and trained staff contribute to a safe environment where parents can have peace of mind while their children play and learn.
5. Emphasis on Social Interaction and Collaboration
Kids entertainment centers now focus on promoting social interaction and collaboration among children. Group activities, team-based games, and cooperative play encourage children to develop important social skills such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. These experiences prepare them for the social dynamics they will encounter in the future.
6. Customization for Individual Preferences
Modern kids entertainment centers often provide customizable experiences to cater to different age groups and individual preferences. They have designated zones for different age ranges, ensuring age-appropriate activities and challenges that align with the child's developmental stage and abilities.
Conclusion
Kids entertainment canters such as Kids World have evolved significantly to meet the changing needs and expectations of both children and parents. They have transformed into interactive, educational, and safe spaces that prioritize holistic development. By integrating diverse activities, technology, educational focus, safety measures, social interaction, and customization, these centers create a perfect blend of fun and learning, setting the stage for a bright and promising future for the younger generation.

If you don't mind me giving some oc-canon comparisons:
Jude 🤝 Blue
Not knowing what the fuck to do with their aura powers.
Jude 🤝 Blue
Given thousands of exceptions at youth which led to them being a bit of a prick.
Okay oc talk over. But really, Blue is out here just not having a good time is he? From Oak to Red( formerly) to the Kanto public being mean- this dude just can't catch a break! I'm glad he was able to find a good support group though. He deserves it( and a hug!)
Hi there @ihopethisendswell! Expect questions from me about Jude later, you have me intrigued. But yes give Blue a hug (Red and Leaf too, they've been through it as well). Also be prepared for a bit of lore infodump A lot of people in my verse (canon or OC) struggled with their aura powers at first because for a few generations the aura powers in humans were a lot rarer than it was back in the Hisuian days. So Blue definitely wasn't the only one, he just notably had a much more difficult time getting it under control
See back in the Hisuian days where people and Pokemon weren't living as closely together, there were more instances of people with aura popping up because aura powers presented a way for humans to protect themselves against wild Pokemon (be it threat detection from aura vision, being able to actively defend with aura projections, or heal injured people on the spot with the aura transfer shown in the 8th movie). As human and Pokemon lives became more interconnected, the need for humans to have some innate defense mechanism became less and so instances aura powers began to lessen.
How much it lessened depended on the region. For example, Johto, Sinnoh, Kalos and Alola all still had strong, if secluded aura guardian guilds well into the modern area. However aura powers all but disappeared in Kanto, Hoenn, Unova, and Galar regions until a sudden resurgence in the modern timeline around the time our first set of canon protagonist were borned. Which was coupled with the rise in people trying to actively seek out legendaries for nefarious purposes.
So for Blue, him, his sister Daisy, Red and Leaf were some of the first Kantonians in generations to develop aura powers (they weren't the only ones, a few other people in Kanto in their age range developed powers too, but their own personal circumstances didn't allow for them to go out on journeys like our Pallet Town group did). However, the Kantonian aura guardian tradition had long sense been lost to the history textbooks. So their parental figures had no way to deal with a bunch of kids who were showing telepathic abilities with Pokemon (Red), powerful aura vision (Blue), ability to transfer aura to heal (Daisy) and the ability to create/active timeflowers (Leaf). So yeah Red and Leaf's parents were confused, and extremely concerned and tried to help (with mixed results) Blue and Daisy's parents? Not in the picture, so now Oak is stuck with dealing with Blue and Daisy. And Blue is already a handful, naturally boisterous and talkative. Also Blue and Daisy's parents did spoil him a bit while they were around which planted the seeds for his initial self-centered prick ways. Professor Oak is in some ways very much the absent minded professor trope and is just not that well equipped to handle Blue's personality let alone the fact that this kid is showing off powers and having a much harder time controlling them. So Oak makes the grievous mistake of comparing Blue to Red in an attempt to course correct his behavior. Which in theory makes sense. Blue and Red were super close and Blue always respected the quieter boy. If Oak said "be more like the friend you like so much" shouldn't that make someone want to change? Well no, not at all. That's actually one of the worst parenting tactics to ever try to employ. Oak was thinking like a professor and not a parent and that cost him dearly. That only made Blue's behavior worse, which further exacerbated his issues controlling his aura. Not only that it caused Blue to suddenly turn harsh to Red because why would he want to be friends with someone his grandfather clearly seems to like over him? So now we have the basis of why Blue went from friend who would protect Red from bullies (because of the Pallet Town Trio, Red's aura powers made him the biggest target by the bullies)...to the actual bully. And of course we know how the actual gen 1 events played out. Thankfully Blue had some people in his corner, namely Blaine, Agatha and Lance who saw his potential but knew he needed a definite attitude readjustment but also some help with his powers as unlike Red, Leaf and Daisy he struggled to get them under control. Which is actually why in my verse he went to study in Kalos (that and to protect him a bit from that Phantom Champion BS the Kantonians were on). Kalos thanks to the whole mega evolution successors and their patron legendaries had a more active population of aura guardians and thus better ways to actually train him to use his powers in a way that didn't cause harm to himself or others. While there he met a certain water loving champion OC of mine and they developed a bitter rivalry which hit its peak when it was revealed that Blue was dating said OC's med student/former Unova champion cousin *winks heavily*
But yeah Blue's life was rough at first but after he repairs his friendship with Red and Leaf, and gets his powers under control things get a lot better. He had great adults like Blaine, Agatha, Lance, Gurkinn, and Siebold in his corner. Him and Professor Oak do eventually make amends but that takes years and Agatha verbally ripping Professor Oak to shreds. And then of course Blue gets Terra in his corner, and eventually Jabari comes around to ending their bitter rivalry.

Blinking her eyes rapidly Bunny sighed softly and rubbed at them feeling how strained and tired they were. Quickly saving her work on her laptop she closes down the web design program and powers down her laptop closing the lid. She turns in her desk chair and spots Butter sleeping in the plush dog bed that she keeps in her office, his tongue as always hanging out of his mouth as he lays on his back with his feet in the air. She chuckled softly, shaking her head as she heard him snore loudly from his comfortable spot. Just then her cellphone began ringing and she saw that Jack was calling her. Furrowing her eyebrows she answered the call and pressed the phone to her ear.
“Hey Jack, everything alright?” she greeted him and heard his soft warm chuckle on the other side of the phone.
“Hey Bunny, everything’s good. Just got a few moments to kill, you got time to just chat?” he asks warmly and Bunny can feel a warmth start to develop in her chest at the idea that he just wanted to call her to talk. Brining one foot up to rest on the desk chair she leans back and gets comfortable in the chair.
“Of course, you’ve got impeccable timing Jack.” Bunny replied with a soft chuckle.
“Work dragging you down?” he asked curiously and Bunny could hear shifting in the background on his end of the call, he was probably getting comfortable himself.
“Not dragging me down, but I’ve been staring at my laptop screen for the last few hours and it’s starting to do a number on my eyes. Thankfully I was able to get a good chunk of this project planned and mapped out.” She explained easily as she snuggled further into her desk feeling the cushions sink and surround her.
“Does that normally take a long time to get done?” Jack asks and Bunny is was pleasantly surprised at his questions, normally people didn’t really care to learn about the process of designing a website.
“Depending on what the client actually wants it could take a few hours to code the links and pages to open the right way. But normally it takes about half a day to plan and map out the website.” Bunny explained in layman terms so that she wouldn’t confuse him.
“And what’s the next step after that?” Jack asked curiously. Bunny smiled as she thought about the next part of the project that she would have to work on, it was her favorite part.
“Designing the face of the website. See the planning and mapping of the website is the background work, it’s how the website is coded to work. If you click on a link and it brings you to another page that’s the mapping part of it. The design is how it looks to the client. I can make it look a certain way based on what the client has requested.” Bunny explained passionately as she started getting even more comfortable in the conversation about her work.
“What was the most outlandish website you’ve been asked to design?” Jack asks with a soft chuckle and Bunny sits for a minute to think.
“I had a client come to me and request a website be made for his young daughter. Apparently she wanted a place to be able to post all about her latest obsessions. But there was no rhyme or reason to the website, random music played on different pages and the mouse would be different shapes for different pages. And it would randomly have sparkles falling like snow on the pages. Think of that Myspace era and dial it up to thousand percent. That project gave me so many headaches I think I invested in the aspirin companies.” Bunny explained with a groan and Jack laughed loudly on the other end of the phone call.
“Oh goodness, I remember those fads. They were horrible now that we’re well past them. I’m lucky that Es wasn’t old enough for that back then otherwise I’d be tortured by all of that. What was your favorite website design?” he said as he still chuckled.
“Oh yeah she’d have loved all of that stuff. What with her love of sparkle I’m surprised she hasn’t gotten you just let her glitter her whole room.” Bunny laughed happily and Jack scoffed softly.
“Don’t you dare give her that idea! She’s already tried to convince me to let her get more sparkly items for her room. I think my eyes are constantly blinded whenever I have to walk into or even past it. Bunny, too much sparkle.” Jack bemoaned to her and Bunny burst into laughter.
“Alright, alright I won’t mention glitter to her.” Bunny conceded as she laughed delightedly. She grinned as a lull in the conversation happened naturally and they both calmed a little.
“So favorite project?” Jack asked again. And Bunny grinned as she remembered her favorite project that she worked on.
“I have an annual client who comes to me to design her family reunion website. Nice elderly lady with a very large family, I’m talking like the last reunion two years ago had I think twenty grandkids. She normally contacts me in the beginning of spring to start designing the website so that it’s ready for early summer and their reunion is towards the end of the summer. It’s a week-long event for them where they go to the family lake cabin and just spend the week doing boating activities, there’s competitions between each branch of the family and there’s nightly outdoor movies and bonfires. It’s a lovely affair and all their pictures are so funny to see when she sends them to me to place on the website. It’s my favorite project because she’s such a sweet woman and I love listening to all her stories she tells me.” Bunny said warmly as she leaned further into her desk fondly remembering all the conversations she’s had with the woman.
“Have you ever met her in person?” Jack asks curiously and Bunny’s smile falters a little bit. “I only ask because you sound like she’s gotten close to you after being a client for a while.”
“Yes, I’ve worked with her for about five years now and have met with her in person every year while working with her on the websites. We usually go out to a long lunch and just spend the day talking about life and how we’ve been and also about the project. She’s truly a wonderful woman and she’s become kind of like a surrogate mom to me since mine lives so far away. But her family reunions are always fun to hear about and all the crazy adventures they get into.” Bunny says wistfully.
“You like the outdoors Bunny?” Jack asked warmly and Bunny grins widely at the question.
“I do, my family was always big on camping when I was growing up and while I don’t get to go as much now I still love to go camping and hiking. Butter and I have done a few mountain hiking trails together.” Bunny said fondly as she remembers her adventures with Butter.
“No way! Butter can hike? I’m surprised that little sausage roll can make it up your steps every day.” Jack teases and Bunny laughs into the phone.
“It’s all fur, don't let that fiend fool you.” Bunny said in a quiet confession and Jack laughed happily.
“Do you like outdoor activities?” Bunny asked curiously and Jack’s laughter faded in her ear.
“I do but it’s a little different than your idea of outdoors. My family back in Kentucky owns a large farm and I grew up there. Worked on the farm until I went to college and whenever I had a break I would come back home and help out when I could. Unfortunately when I started my career in security I wasn’t able to come home as often and help out. But the family still has the farm and it’s prospering so they’re all doing well for themselves.” Jack explained easily and Bunny nodded her head loving that he was actually sharing some information about himself with her. “We used to go out into the pasture a lot during the summers and sleep under the stars with a small campfire. It’s one of my favorite memories about the farm and my siblings.” Jack confessed warmly and Bunny felt that warmth that had started to grow in her chest began to spread and consume her body as she listened to Jack talk about his family’s farm.
“Do you have a lot of siblings?” Bunny asked, wanting to keep the conversation going and gather as much information about Jack as she was able to. He was still a mystery to her and while she knew he was a good man and cared greatly for his daughter she still didn’t know much about him. She wanted to begin a friendship that could hopefully turn into something so much more. And while they had begun flirting and teasing each other Bunny was ready to wait to see how this relationship blossomed. After the hell that she had been put through by her ex-husband Bunny was more than happy to wait and see how a relationship now panned out.
“I’ve got two sisters, one older that’s Rebecca or Becca. She's I think a year or two older than me. Then there’s Amelia, she’s the younger one, she’s five years younger. And finally there’s the baby of the family Will, he’s the youngest but don’t tell him that sometimes he acts like the oldest out of the four of us.” Jack replied easily and Bunny could hear the affection full in his tone over the phone. She could easily tell that he loved and cared deeply for his siblings. She smiled softly as she nodded her head. “What about you? Is it just you and your sister?” Jack asked.
“Actually I’ve got three siblings. There’s Sasha that you know about, she was adopted when I was eight and she’s two years younger than me, she’s the only one of us who’s got kids. Then there’s Jake, he was adopted when I was eleven he’s three years younger. And Freddie is five years younger than me and he was adopted when I was sixteen.” Bunny said smiling as she thought back to when her siblings were adopted and the parties that were thrown.
“So you’ve been through the adoption process?” Jack asks curiously and Bunny has to stomp down the urge and desire to be Esme’s mom that she had the other night at the sleepover.
“Yeah it was a bit hectic as a kid because my parents fostered a lot of kids while growing up and it was both good and bad. The kids that we were fostering, some had some serious mental health issues, like Sasha she has horrendous panic attacks and anxiety attacks all throughout her foster life with us. She still gets it sometimes but they’re not as severe she’s told me. And Freddie has bipolar disorder that he’s managing with a team of doctors, he’s got his good days and then he’s got some really bad days. I check up on him a couple times a month just to see how he’s doing and if he needs anything.” Bunny explained feeling a dull achy pain in her chest as she talked about her siblings’ mental issues. She hated seeing them troubled and if she could take away their pain she would in a heartbeat, Sasha and Freddie were the best type of people and the fact that they had to deal with these issues pained Bunny. She knew they were dealt a hard life but she hoped that by joining her family they had found some sort of peace, and while they had told her this before she hoped it was true.
“Wow, I didn’t realize that the foster kids your parents helped were dealing with those types of issues.” Jack said solemnly.
“Yeah there were others who needed more help than my parents could offer or give and those were the ones that were either placed with another foster family or the state government eventually took custody of them. They became a ward of the state.” Bunny explained softly.
“Well I’m hoping they got the necessary care they needed wherever they ended up.” Jack said in a calm, easing voice.
“I do too.” Bunny replied easily before her mind turned back to Esme once more and the sleepover fiasco was in the forefront of her brain again. “Hey while we’re talking about this stuff. I-uh wanted to let you know that Es had a run in with Cynthia and it wasn’t pretty.” Bunny began to explain. She took a breath in and heard absolute silence on the other end of the call and for a moment she thought the call had dropped. She began to move the phone away from her ear to check when she heard Jack’s deadly calm voice speak up.
“What did Cynthia do to Esme?” he asked in such a harsh cold tone that Bunny physically shivered in her seat.
“Es got caught up in all the excitement with the other girls at the sleepover and called me Mom in front of everyone. Cynthia heard and was a bit of a nasty witch to her and to be honest I can’t remember the exact words because I only saw red and ripped her a new one for her shit talking, but anyway she said something about needing to talk to you about her hanging out with me too much that she was thinking I was her mom.” Bunny explained in a rush as she felt the white hot blind rage she felt after Cynthia snapped at Esme.
“Easy Bunny, easy.” Jack said softly and Bunny took in a deep breath before letting it out slowly. “Es called you mom?” Jack asked quietly and Bunny felt her heart clench suddenly at his question.
“She did. And Jack I don’t mind one bit. She just got caught up in the chaotic energy the girls were causing and it was just a slip of the tongue. Honest.” Bunny said quickly to try and ease him if he was having second thoughts of her being around Esme so much. “And I talked to Es about it. Told her it’s no big deal and that I’d be lucky to have her as a kid. But I told her what Cynthia said was uncalled for and that she didn’t have to listen to her since she was mean to Es.”
Bunny felt uneasy as if she was rambling as she tried to explain to Jack what had happened the other night and as the silence fell over the phone conversation she felt her anxiety skyrocket inside her. She tried to wait patiently for Jack to say something but when he didn’t say anything after a while she sighed softly, figuring that he’d want to put a stop to them spending so much time together.
“I understand if you don’t want me watching her anymore or taking her to yoga.” Bunny said softly and dejectedly.
“Now hang on.” Jack said suddenly and confidently. “That’s not at all what I want.” Bunny heard his firm words and she felt hope unfurl in her chest making her breath catch silently. “You have been the best thing that has happened to both Esme and myself. You’ve helped me out so much with watching her for me. And Esme has had a rough time making friends in her new neighborhood and school but you’ve done wonders for her confidence that she now has a few friends. Bunny you not being in our lives is the last thing I would want.” Jack stated vehemently and Bunny felt tears prick at her eyes. “I’m more upset that Cynthia had the nerve to say something to Es about calling you mom. I can’t believe that woman.” He said honestly and Bunny sighed softly as she nodded her head.
“Yeah Cynthia I think has it in her head that the two of you are becoming a hot item.” Bunny said thoughtfully and Jack scoffed over the phone.
“She’s married Bunny.” Jack lamented softly to her and Bunny nodded her head at his words.
“I know that, but I don’t think she cares. Ever since I’ve met her she’s always been looking for the next best thing for herself.” Bunny said truthfully.
“She’s always been like this? It’s not just because of me?” Jack asked seriously and Bunny smirked softly, seeing an opportunity for her.
“You’re handsome Jack but you’re no Mark Strong.” Bunny teased him as she grinned widely.
“Oh ho! So you dig the older men huh Bunny?” Jack teased right back and Bunny blushed deeply.
“What can I say, he's dreamy.” Bunny said dismissively and Jack laughed softly.
“Well now I know who my competition is then.” Jack said sultrily and Bunny felt desire jolt down her spine making her gasp softly.
“C-competition?” she stuttered out softly before she heard muffled talking in the background on Jack’s end of the phone call. She could hear Jack responding to whoever was with him distantly as her mind began to race with the thought that Jack was competing for her affection.
“Hey listen Bunny I’ve got to get goin’. Thanks for taking my call and chattin’ with me. Tell Es I’ll give her a call at dinner time alright?” Jack said and Bunny let out her breath slowly through her nose.
“Yeah of course. I’ll let her know. I’ve gotta start getting ready to go get her from the bus stop anyway. We’ll talk to you then.” Bunny began to quickly ramble and she cringed softly as she heard his soft chuckle.
“And yes competition. Can’t let a Brit git one over the good ol’ American boy. Talk to you later Bunny.” Jack said in a low gravelly tone that made Bunny suddenly tense with arousal as she heard his tone and words. And then the line was hung up.
Huffing softly she slouched in her chair and pulled the phone from her ear slowly. Setting it down on the desk gently she turned and saw Butter was still passed out in his bed. Running a hand through her hair Bunny sighed softly.
“That man’s got a seductive tongue.” She said softly to the quiet office and Butter huffed in his sleep making her chuckle softly. “You said it Butter.”
*-*-*-*
As soon as Esme walked down the bus steps Bunny could tell that she was feeling down. Tilting her head to the side she watched as Esme walked down the sidewalk towards. The two older girls from the last bullying instance were walking behind her giggling and whispering to each other and Bunny felt rage rush her body with red hot anger. The girls looked up from Esme’s back and both instantly stopped talking as they spotted Bunny glaring at them.
“Girls.” Bunny said stiffly as Esme came to a stop next to her and the girls both gulped silently before one hesitantly let out a smile before the two made a dash for their houses. Bunny sighed softly and looked down at Esme who was dejectedly scuffing her sneakers on the sidewalk. “Bad day at school?” Bunny asked softly.
Esme shrugged her shoulders and continued to scuff her sneakers on the sidewalk. Butter looked up at Esme curiously before head-butting her calf with his head. Esme moved a little bit before stepping to the side to avoid Butter doing that again.
“Yep, bad day at school. Why don’t we go for a walk and if you wanna talk I’m all ears. If not, it's no big deal.” Bunny said softly as she looked down at Esme. Esme shrugged her shoulders once more and Bunny nodded her head before gently holding out her hand for Esme. The little girl took a hold of it after a moment's pause and Bunny began leading her and Butter towards the main park area of the community.
The three of them walked in silence and Bunny kept her head held high not wanting to constantly look down at Esme. She was worried it’d upset the little girl more if she constantly tried to check in with her. As the three of them finish crossing the street to the park area Esme starts to slowly perk up.
“Hey Bunny?” she asks suddenly and Bunny hides her smile as much as she possibly can and looks down at the little girl at her side.
“What’s up Es?” Bunny answers in a question and Esme smiles softly at her.
“Have you ever called someone Mom who wasn’t your mom?” Esme asks softly and Bunny nods her head adamantly.
“Oh yeah! So many women.” Bunny said with wide eyes and Esme giggled softly. “I’ve called a bunch of my teachers in school Mom. Let’s see who else, oh! I called Molly’s mom that once and she wouldn’t let me live it down. Wouldn’t stop insisting she was my mom now. And then there was that time that I accidentally called Mr. Quinten dad and it was a whole big thing with him.” Bunny confessed as she sighed and rolled her eyes. Esme giggled brightly as she walked next to Bunny as she began to skip alongside her. “Look Es, there’s nothing wrong with calling someone Mom. It happens all the time.” Bunny stressed earnestly as she stopped walking and bent down to Esme’s level.
“Really?” asked the little girl as she looked at Bunny with a lost expression on her face.
“Yep. Sometimes we just forget where we are and the name just comes out. Other times we see the person we called Mom as a mother figure. It just means that you see that person as someone who you can trust and go to for anything. And I’ll let you in on a secret, come here.” Bunny said surreptitiously as she gestured Esme closer to her. “It means so much to me that you could think of me like that. And I will do my best to be there for you no matter what, understand? You’re stuck with me kiddo.” She said fondly as she nudged Esme under her chin making her giggle. Just then Esme launched herself against Bunny and Bunny caught her easily in her arms holding her close to her.
“Thanks Bunny.” Esme whispered softly.
“Any time kiddo. Any time.” Bunny said softly into the little girl’s hair. “Now what do you say to go for a walk and just hang out before we crack down on homework and then dinner?” Bunny asked hopefully that the little girl was feeling a little bit better.
“Yeah! Oh can we roll down that hill over there?” Esme asked, suddenly excited as she pointed to the medium sized hill that obscured the soccer field from view. Bunny shrugged her shoulders before grinning at Esme and taking off with Butter running besides her.
“Beat you to the top!” Bunny called and Esme shrieked with indignation as she began running as quickly as her little legs could carry her after Bunny.
“You cheated!” Esme cried as she began chasing after Bunny.
“Only if I win!” Bunny called over her shoulder laughing heartily before she began huffing dramatically as Esme caught up to her. Esme giggled as Butter barked chaotically at Bunny’s side as if he was trying to get her to pick up her pace. Once Bunny saw Esme pass her she began to overtly huff and puff as she chased the little girl up the hill.
“I win!” called Esme and began to dance in celebration as she reached the top before Bunny. Bunny made a show of bending over and gasping for breath which made Esme laugh harder. Butter hopped around Bunny barking at her and Bunny laughed softly at the dog as he did his best impression of an angry coach. “Ok, ok. Let’s do this!” cried Esme happily as she threw her back pack to the ground and began to lower herself down to the ground at the top of the hill.
“Alright you go first and then when you come up I’ll go.” Bunny instructed and Esme looked up at her gleefully. “What? You thought I wouldn’t roll down a hill? I’ll have you know I’m an expert roller.” Bunny said self-importantly and Esme burst into happy laughter before she shook her head.
“Bunny!” The little girl drew out the name in an exasperated tone and Bunny laughed softly before gesturing for Esme to go. Butter began to bark excitedly and was jumping around Bunny’s legs as Esme prepped herself to roll down the hill.
“Alright I’m gonna time ya. On your mark!” Bunny called happily and Butter began to jump more furiously around her. “Get set!” was the next call out and Esme prepared to begin rolling as Butter began barking like crazy. “Go!” called Bunny and instantly realized her mistake as Esme began rolling down the hill at a moderate speed.
Suddenly Bunny’s legs were knocked out from underneath herself as Butter took off down the hill dragging Bunny along after him. Shrieking in surprise Bunny heard a distinct crack and felt the back of her head bounce on the ground when she met the ground. Groaning in pain she raised her hand to her head before feeling her arm being jerked after Butter as he dashed down the hill after Esme. Bunny felt every hit with the ground as Butter dragged her down the hill and she moaned softly as he finally came to a stop at the base of the hill.
“Bunny!” cried Esme worriedly and Bunny peeked one eye open to stare over at the little girl as she got up and rushed over to her. Bunny could feel the aches in her body from when she had collided with the ground. Gritting her teeth and hissing softly as she shifted on the ground trying to sit up.
“I’m okay Es. Butter just got a little too excited.” Bunny began to reassure Esme as she saw the little girl’s face filled with worry and concern. Bunny set her hand down on the ground and moved to sit up on the grass. Hissing in pain Bunny quickly pulled her wrist up to her chest and clutched it there for a moment feeling the sharp pain coursing through her wrist. She laid there for a moment with her eyes shut clutching her aching wrist to her chest trying to breathe through the pain.
“Bunny?” Esme asked softly and Bunny opened her eyes to see Esme now kneeling next to her body as Butter crawled along the ground towards the two of them.
“I should be okay just banged up.” Bunny reassured her and sat up completely still keeping her wrist close to her body to limit the chance of irritating it further. Shifting on the ground to get into a better sitting position she felt a sharp twinge coming from her right ankle. Moaning softly her right hand fell to her ankle to try and steady it as pain jolted quickly up her leg making her muscles seize. “Nope, nope. Not okay. Let me just see if I can stand up for a second. Hey Es, can you come hold Butter’s leash for me?”
Es stood quickly from her kneeling spot and gently unwound Butter’s leash that was wrapped around Bunny’s left wrist and arm. She led Butter a step or two away from Bunny as she stood there watching silently with worried eyes.
Bunny rolled onto her knees and gritted her teeth as she felt the pain in her ankle begin to throb. Slowly blowing out a breath through her mouth Bunny used her left leg to push up from the ground. Taking in a few quick breaths Bunny stood on her left leg and tentatively placed her right foot down flush with the ground. Placing a little more weight on it she felt it suddenly give out and she collapsed to the ground on her knees groaning in pain at the impact.
“Definitely not okay.” she said softly and felt tears prick her eyes as the pain consumed her suddenly. Quickly blinking the tears away she looked over and saw Esme shifting on her feet with watery eyes. “Hey it’s okay. We just need to go to the hospital. I'm pretty sure I broke my ankle.”
“Oh Bunny!” Esme cried softly and Bunny shook her head as she settled back onto the ground.
“Es do you see my phone anywhere? I need to call an ambulance, I can’t stand on my right leg.” Bunny said as she began patting down her pockets not feeling her phone. Esme looked around the ground in the area that they had landed before darting over to the side where the phone laid in the grass. Bunny grimaced as she shifted on the ground and grunted softly in pain as her ankle was jostled before turning to see Esme already holding her phone to her ear. Bunny watched in surprise as Esme effortlessly called 911 for her.
“Hi, I need an ambulance to Legacy Oaks community. My babysitter fell down a hill and she can’t stand on her right leg and her left hand hurts.” Esme explained easily and Bunny tilted her head slightly at how calm Esme was as she talked to the 911 operator. “Yes she’s breathing and sitting up. We are at the main field area by the soccer field. Closest intersection is Main Street and West Legacy Boulevard. Ok hold on.” Esme relayed easily before moving closer to Bunny and holding out her phone to her. “They want to ask you some medical questions.” Esme said hurriedly as she came to Bunny’s side and handed over her phone.
“Hello?” Bunny asked, still in shock at Esme’s behavior as she watched the little girl take a seat next to her and began to coo at Butter.
“Yes ma’am, we have an ambulance on their way to you and I just need to ask a few more questions.” Said the operator and Bunny nodded her head slightly.
“Of course.” She replied as her eyes stayed glued to Esme who was sitting there rubbing Butter’s back letting her fingers drag through his fur.
“So it’s your right ankle that is injured?” asked the operator and Bunny could hear keyboard keys clacking in the background and other voices relaying information about other calls.
“I can’t put any pressure on my right ankle, my leg gives out when I try to. And my left wrist is throbbing with pain whenever I move it.” Bunny relayed to the operator and heard the clicking of the keyboard as she talked.
“Ok, I’ve already let the ambulance crew know and they are on their way. Is there any special directions for them on how to find you?” asked the operator.
“No, we’re the only ones here in the main park area. They’ll be able to see us.” Bunny said and watched as Esme looked over at her silently.
“Ok, if anything changes, call us back but the ambulance should be there shortly.” Said the operator and Bunny thanked him before hanging up the phone.
“I have to call Jeremy and see if he could come grab Butter before the ambulance gets here. Are you okay?” Bunny explained as she looked down to her cracked phone screen and pulled up Jeremy’s contact info with a little difficulty before she looked up at Esme. Placing the phone at her ear she watched Esme look at her with slightly teary eyes and a worried face.
“Hey Bun-Bun!” cheered Jeremy happily as he answered the phone after two rings.
“Hey Jer, I have to go to the hospital. I’m okay but I think I broke or sprained my ankle and wrist really badly. Es and I are at the main park with Butter, would you be able to come get Butter before the ambulance gets here?” she quickly relayed to him hoping he’d be able to help her out.
“Of course, I’m just getting ready for work so I can swing by now and grab him. No problem. Are you sure you’re okay? Is Esme okay?” he responded easily before asking about the well-being of her and Esme.
“We’re okay, I think just a little shaken up is all.” Bunny said softly as she watched Esme sniffle softly and swipe her hand under her nose.
“Okay, I’m on my way. I'll be there in two minutes.” Jeremy said quickly and Bunny said goodbye before hanging up the phone.
“Are you okay sweetheart?” Bunny asked softly as she focused fully on Esme. The little girl looked at her with such saddened eyes that Bunny felt such a severe urge to pull her close and reassure her, but when her body shifted to move closer to Esme she gritted her teeth as pain shot up her leg and arm. “C’mere.” She cooed softly to Esme and the little girl moved closer to her side and pressed gently into it resting her head on Bunny’s right shoulder. “I promise I’m okay. Just probably broken bones. No big deal, okay?” she reassured the little girl as she gently wrapped her right arm low around Esme’s lower back.
“It’s my fault.” Esme said sorrowfully in a low tone and Bunny immediately shook her head at the girl’s words.
“No it’s not sweetheart. Accidents happen and it’s more my fault.” Bunny said easily as she kept shaking her head. Esme turned to look up at her confused. “I said ready, set, go and Butter knows those are play words. So I should have known better. It’s not your fault Es. Don’t think that it is because that’s the farthest from the truth.” Bunny said adamantly as she watched Esme closely.
“But if I didn’t want to roll down the hill then this wouldn’t have happened.” Esme said softly in such a heartbroken tone that Bunny felt her heart clench in response.
“Uh if you recall I also wanted to roll down the hill missy.” Bunny teased softly and Esme scoffed softly as her shoulders slumped forward. “Hey, I’m serious. It’s not your fault that I got hurt. It was just something that happened, it’s really no one’s fault.”
“But Bunny!” Esme cried indignantly as she tried to convince Bunny once more that it was her fault.
“Look, you couldn’t have predicted that this would have happened. And it’s not like you wanted me to get hurt when we decided to roll down the hill, right? And you didn’t push me. So it is not your fault. Accidents happen, we just have to deal with them and move on. Okay?” Bunny said firmly as she stared down at Esme. “Trust me I’m not mad or upset. My bones will heal and maybe if it’s broken I’ll get a cool cast and you can draw and sign it for me.”
“But-“ Esme began again and Bunny quickly shook her head as interrupted the little girl.
“Nope. No buts. It’s no one’s fault. I won’t hear anything else about it.” Bunny insisted as she shook her head at the little girl.
“Fine, but I still feel bad.” Esme huffed out softly and Bunny smiled warmly at her.
“You can feel bad for me all you want. It’ll help me lay it on thick to Jeremy and your Dad to help me out if it’s broken.” Bunny said, nodding her head eagerly and Esme giggled softly.
“I can help you too.” Esme said cheerily and Bunny nodded exaggeratedly making Esme giggle again.
“Uh duh. You’re definitely gonna be my number one helper.” Bunny said fondly and Esme nodded her head confidently as she watched Bunny determinedly. “Oh reminds me I should call your Dad and let him know what’s going on.” She said absentmindedly when suddenly Jeremy’s bright yellow jeep pulled up to the curb and Butter started barking excitedly as he recognized the car.
Bunny sat next to Esme as the two of them watched as Jeremy hopped out of the jeep in his security guard uniform and rushed over to them. He had a concerned expression on his face as he walked over to them and his eyes were darting first around Esme and then landed on Bunny.
“Are you okay?” he asked worriedly and Bunny nodded her head as she gritted her teeth when her wrist protested with her shifting movement on the ground.
“Yeah, just banged up. Took a tumble down the hill that’s all.” Bunny said as Jeremy came to a stop standing in front of her splayed legs. He looked down at her with a soft fond look in his eyes after he heard her explanation.
“You’re always getting up to something aren’t you?” he teased softly and Bunny stuck her tongue out at him making Esme giggle softly.
“First time it’s because I wanted to roll down a hill.” Bunny retorted and Jeremy scoffed softly.
“First time for everything trouble maker.” He quipped back and Bunny laughed as she shook her head at him.
“Whatever man.” She bemoaned to him as she shifted again on the ground and gritted her teeth as pain coursed through her again.
“So what hurts and how can I help?” he asked kindly and Bunny smiled in thanks to him.
“My right ankle and leg are in a lot of pain whenever I move it and I can’t put pressure on it. And my left wrist is in a lot of pain too. Not sure but I might have a concussion too, banged my head a few times on the ground as I came down.” Bunny relayed to him and Jeremy whistled low, Bunny nodded her head in response to his whistle and gritted her teeth as a dull ache began to form in her brain.
“Man you know how to fall hard when you do huh?” Jeremy asked teasingly and Bunny chuckled at him.
“What can I say? Gotta do it right the first time right?” she asked and Jeremy shook his head at her. Just as Jeremy was moving closer to her and Esme they all spotted the ambulance driving down the street. Jeremy turned and waved them down as Bunny shifted again and felt Esme lean slightly closer to her. “I’m okay. It’s gonna be okay, I promise.” Bunny reassured her softly as the paramedics parked the ambulance and hopped out.
“Hey guys, she’s over here.” Jeremy said easily as he directed the paramedics to Bunny.
“Are you her husband?” asked the male paramedic as he looked from Jeremy over to Bunny and Bunny grinned as she fluttered her eyelashes at Jeremy who laughed at Bunny’s antics.
“No, just my best friend.” Jeremy said fondly as he walked over with the paramedic.
“So what happened miss?” asked the younger female paramedic who was now kneeling down at Bunny’s other side with the medical bag set on the ground next to her. Bunny watched as she looked across Bunny to Esme and smiled softly at her. “Don’t worry honey, we're going to take good care of your babysitter.”
“Got knocked down the hill by my overly excited dog.” Bunny said as she gestured with her chin to Butter who was now rolling in the grass on his back trying to get the paramedics’ attention. Both paramedics laughed at Butter and Jeremy just shook his head as Esme giggled softly. “Banged my head a couple of times on the ground, did something to my left wrist, it's throbbing in pain, and my right ankle is in a lot of pain too. Can’t put any weight on the right leg either, tried to stand up and my leg gave out.” She explained as they all looked at her and Esme who was still cuddled into her side.
“Ok, well I suggest we take you to the hospital to get your wrist and ankle checked out to see if you just sprained them or broke them. Also if you choose to let us take you we’ll check for concussion in the ambulance. We can’t force you but that’s what I suggest.” Said the female and male nodded as he stood next to Jeremy.
“Yeah, let's go to the hospital.” Bunny said, nodding her head.
“Okay, Chase, can you grab the stretcher while I start her paperwork?” the female asked as picked up her metal clipboard and began filling out the paperwork with Bunny right there. “Do you want us to take her in the ambulance as well or will your friend be taking her?” the woman asked as she nodded her head at Esme. Bunny felt Esme’s hands come up to clutch at her bicep and she leaned closer to her silently.
“She’s gonna go with me if that’s alright with you guys.” She replied and felt Esme relax against her a little bit. The woman nodded her head and winked at Esme who smiled softly and relaxed further against Bunny.
“No problem with us.” She answered with a smile and finished filling out the paperwork. Bunny’s eyes darted over to Jeremy who was walking with Chase as he wheeled the stretcher over towards them. Once it was lowered to the ground Bunny looked over at Jeremy for some help which he gladly stepped over.
“I’m gonna just lift her up onto the stretcher. It’ll be easier.” Jeremy explained as he squatted down next to Bunny and Esme. “Hey Es, do me a favor and just hold onto Butter for me while I put Bunny on the stretcher okay. Once I’m done and they load her up in the ambulance you’ll be able to get in with her.” Jeremy said softly and kindly to the little girl who was still pressed up against Bunny’s side. Bunny could see the worry flash across Esme’s face and Bunny nodded her head at her.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let them leave without you. You’re coming with me.” Bunny reassured her and Esme looked up at her with concern. “Here take my phone that way you know for sure you’re coming with me since we still gotta call your Dad and let him know what’s up.” Bunny said as she handed over her phone to Esme who quickly took it and Butter’s leash leading him a few steps away from the stretcher.
“Alright c’mon lady let’s get you up on that stretcher.” Jeremy said as he slid his arms underneath Bunny’s knees and behind her back before standing up with her cradled in his arms. Bunny gritted her teeth lightly when her ankle fell with gravity as Jeremy lifted her. “I got you sorry.” Jeremy apologized and Bunny shook her head at him.
“No worries, it's okay.” Bunny said softly as he set her down on the stretcher and Chase lifted it up gently.
“Hey call me if you guys need anything and when you get done with everything and I’ll come pick you two up. That way you won’t have to worry about anything okay?” Jeremy said as Chase began to wheel you towards the ambulance.
“Okay. You sure? I’m sure I could call a taxi or something.” Bunny said as they all began walking towards the ambulance behind her.
“Yeah, call me and I’ll come pick you up. You’re already gonna have a lot going on so just call me.” Jeremy insisted and Bunny nodded her head as she watched him turn to Esme and held his hand out for the leash. “C’mon sweetheart let’s let them get her loaded up and then I’ll help you up there.”
“Thanks Jeremy.” Esme said softly as she hung back with Jeremy as the paramedics loaded Bunny into the back of the ambulance. Once they were done Bunny looked out at Esme and gestured her up once the female paramedic got situated in the back with her.
“Alright honey you’re gonna come sit on the bench over here okay?” she said as pointed to the bench seat next to Bunny’s stretcher on her left side. Bunny watched quietly as Esme climbed into the back with Jeremy’s help and came to sit down on the bench. When she was finally settled in her seat she gripped onto the stretcher railing and watched anxiously as the woman began to get a blood pressure cuff secured on Bunny.
“Alright we’re good to go. We’ll be heading to Three Sisters’ Hospital.” Chase said easily to everyone as he began to close the back of the ambulance. Bunny smiled at Jeremy as he nodded at her and then turned to Esme trying to ease her as they began their trek to the hospital.

Nothing in Particular Update #2
It’s the Nothing and Particular and Everything update part two: the electric booglaloo. This one is long, so strap in.
It’s been a while since I wrote an update for this story. To be honest, this one gave me a lot of stress, but here I am! Writing this story feels like it is going very slow. I keep telling myself I’ve made a lot of progress (which is true, I have) but for some reason it doesn’t feel like I have? This is likely just my own insecurity. To be frank, I can’t believe I’m still writing this story. If you had told me in February that I’d still be writing this when the weather got warm, I would have laughed.
I am SO excited that I will finally be able to focus on writing now that I’m out of school. I’m afraid to speak the rough deadline that I’ve given myself for this story (the end of August-early September) but now that I’ve spoken it into existence, I hope I can finish! (I hope I can stop watching dumb videogame playthroughs and listening to The Magnus Archives and get something done)
Here is a link to the story introduction and previous update!

STORY CHANGES/THOUGHTS/IDEAS:
Here is a big one: I’ve been trying to write this story for myself. I started writing Ray’s story from a place that was personal to me, but I feel like, as that part of myself has begun to heal, I’ve started to think about what a reader would want out of the story. I’m realizing that this is my story so it has to be what I want. Drafts are drafts for a reason, so I’m going to try to get better at letting myself explore what is fun to me.
I always thought I was a discovery writer (I still sort of think I am) but as I’ve finished small sections of the story, I am finding that it’s very helpful to do a rough outline of scenes in upcoming chapters. (I also recommend turning to this if something doesn’t work and you need to retrace your steps!) Just helps me feel more organized!
Jude’s character has got to be one of the most difficult personalities I’ve ever written. Putting her beside Ray just makes it harder. Where Ray is secretive and keeps to herself, Jude is ready to unpack her entire life’s story to anyone. I find that I really have to slow down when writing their interactions. I know this is going to be nowhere near perfect in the first draft, but I think it is a main contributor to my slow writing.
I really like this little narrative I’ve created in the background of the main plot with Ray and Lonan. I love writing these scenes because it’s a way for me to use Lonan when he’s not actively with Ray and to show why Ray is predetermined about things at certain points. Also I love their friendship so much <3
CONGRATULATIONS TO ME on starting to read again because I forgot how much of a help reading other people’s stories can be when you’re struggling with your own oml
I now have a set timeline for the story! Takes place ~4-5 months.
I did that thing where you write a letter from the characters’ perspectives and that was kind of fun
Also just for fun I thought I’d add in that I spent an hour and a half last week filling up a page in my sketchbook with diagrams of the plot. It feels good to be a mad scientist
EXCERPTS UNDER THE CUT!
*At this point, I’m only sharing writing that I am really proud of in order not to spoil the story! This is because I am unsure whether I want to publish this story someday. With that said, that does NOT give you permission to steal my ideas!
CHAPTER: NIGHT CRIES
#1
Tumblr media
In the last week of summer, I did everything I could to avoid post-vacation blues. I rode my bike along the gravel roads with no destination, wore my dark sunglasses to people-watch, and fed salami to the minnows that floated on the cusps of boulders. Usually, I sat still for so long that my elbows turned a deep shade of red and the blood in my toes buzzed.
New pockets seemed to open up in Point Blink every day. And with them, came new people. Most of them were older – a middle aged woman who caked her lipstick on, an uncle estranged from his brother, a couple who had miscarried. I hadn’t forgotten about the kids at Mothouse. It was impossible not to think about them. It wasn’t just that I’d never seen them before.
#2
Tumblr media
The girl’s limp cigarette bled a trail of smoke that seeped into my Vans. My shirt folded like skin over my bed post. Haunted the room – foiled my mauve sheets and teased my locks. Swept the curtains apart and heated the oak floor. Beams of moonlight leapt to my bookcases; highlighted the posters from various podcasts and bands that I listened to. Wind whistled when I was too still. She forced me to look outside, onto the dark cul-de-sac lit by the reflections of forming rain puddles. No matter whether I sat at my desk or burrowed under my sheets, I felt out of place. She made my bedroom louder. She made my bedroom quieter.
I decided it would probably be best if I never saw her again.
To be honest, I don’t remember much about writing this chapter because it was over a month ago (sorry) but I’m still quite happy with the prose! This comes in after Ray sees Jude for the first time at Mothouse. Based on a first impression, decides that she might want be friends with Jude.
CHAPTER: SORRY
#1
Tumblr media
If you spend any long amount of time with someone, you’ll become a thief to their behaviors. If I stared long enough, trees began to replace all of the people we’d ever seen. Oaks had roots that serpentined the ground like children splashing in the bay, pines with needles like spindly old hands, maples with hollows like watchful eyes – all things Lonan had taught me to observe.
CHAPTER: GHOSTS
Tumblr media
Then there was the sea – violent and knowing as it romped within bays and alcoves. She had eaten me many times before, both my father and Lonan too. Gulped them as if they were shining plastic wrappings left behind after a meal. I spited her for inviting me once again. I reached up again to grapple with the next rung. It twisted and offered a low whistle.
In these two chapters, Ray is on a photography trip with her class. This is the first time she’s been on this annual trip without Lonan. She left that morning with a goal of being independent and learning to get on with one of the only people she has felt close to. I realize now that the Ghost excerpt sort of sounds like her dad and Lonan have drowned?? Which was not my intention??
CHAPTER: A DIVINE INTERVENTION
#1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Do you believe in ghosts?” A raspy voice teased from behind me. Cigarette smoke tickled the words, like they were stuck together with jelly inside of her. The question wasn’t particularly calming, but it strengthened my grip on reality. As if the foiled leaves, bark, and dandelions had sprung from the ground and begun to float, they came crashing back down.
I was made of stone.
“I’m not a ghost,” Jude said. “If I was, a ladder would be a pretty counteractive way to outrun me. I could just float up there and haunt you.”
“Maybe you’re a ghost,” she asked, her voice distant.
I shifted my grasp up and down the sides of the ladder. “What?”
“Don’t you believe in ghosts?”
I was reading back some of Ray and Jude’s conversation and there are so many snippets of dialogue that make me laugh because I totally forgot I wrote them... but UGhhH I don’t know if I want to share them because I don’t know whether or not I want to try and publish the story someday. Speaking of that, it’s sort of because it’s so personal to me? I don’t know (this is for future me to pursue) Honestly though, reading these back has made me really happy :)
#2
Tumblr media
I wanted to shake her by the shoulders. She acted as though Point Blink could breathe – as though corpses in the cemetery might pull the grass away like dead skin, neighbors would draw blades, and blood-salt would stain her clothes rather than that from the sea. “Trust me, they’ll forgive you. But, I’m just saying, most people around here don’t care nearly as much as you think so. Most of them are way older anyways, so they’re tired of us.”
“Is that you complimenting yourself?” Jude asked.
“Not intentionally,” I said, “but I will take it.”
She laughed. “You shouldn’t be so nice to strangers.”
I wasn’t trying to be. I just didn’t think I wanted her to dislike me.
#3
Tumblr media
“I don’t think it’s a bad thing or a good thing,” Jude said. “Being good gets you tucked into a thousand different memories. Being good makes you live a lifetime.”
I almost laughed, but then I wondered what I was to her now. “I don’t talk to lots of people.”
“Sometimes there aren’t many people to talk to. But I thought you would have loads of friends.”
I wasn’t sure what to say to that. “I thought you would too.”
Alarm like grief lit her eyes, but she laughed. I did too.
“You hardly know me,” she said quietly.
Then the girls explore some old newspapers and letters in a fire tower! Spooky fun!
CHAPTER: YOU LET THIS HAPPEN
Tumblr media
This isn’t a major spoiler as it’s literally in the blurb I wrote, but Ray and Jude are caught (targeted..??)  in a fire. Ray is brought back to a field where she is questioned.
CHAPTER: NOTHING HAPPENS
Tumblr media
He was quiet for several moments while he painted a picture with what little details I had given him, then said, “It’s unfair. I think that’s why it hurts.”
“Because we almost got hurt?”
“No. Because it came true.”
His gentle, ragged voice made me think I could tell him anything. Sometimes, I think that, even then, he knew I left something out.
Ray talks to Lonan after the fire... She’s being a bit dishonest about what actually happened.
CHAPTER: WHY NOT
Tumblr media
I remember how the barest amount of red light glared across Lonan’s entire scalp and washed his boyish curls magenta from the roots out. When Jude leaned back on the counter, she melded into the darkness.
This chapter is just part of the narrative that I created with Ray and Lonan’s friendship. There isn’t much I want to spoil from it, but I liked this paragraph!
CHAPTER: INEVITABLE
Tumblr media
“We didn’t do anything,” I said.
“Someone did. Why won’t you believe me?”
“I think I would remember whether or not someone was there with us,” I said, “even if we didn’t have the picture.”
This was untrue. I hung lots of photos in my room. A long time would pass before I went to a restaurant again, or a specific coven on one of the beaches, or an outfit that I wore, and I would look into one of my pictures and remember it, and then I would be quite angry with myself that I had almost forgotten that thing forever.
“I don’t think you understand what I mean,” Jude said. I didn’t like the way she’d lowered her voice. She sounded different every time I saw her. She reached out her arm so our photos were side by side and our fingers were almost touching. “I don’t think you want to.”
Ray finds herself alone in the school’s dark room with Jude. Based on the contents of one of her photos, she tries to convince Ray that there is more to the fire than what meets the eye.
CHAPTER: (this one is untitled)
Tumblr media
I didn’t mind that he followed me everywhere. Even when he was quiet, I didn’t find it strange to be around him. We sat silently through films and went on walks. Once, he had fallen asleep while watching The Iron Giant in my bed. I didn’t know if I should wake him up once it ended. I tried not to stare at him. He’d rolled onto his side and bundled himself in one of my blankets covered in stars up to his shoulders so only his small face poked out like a baby owl’s. His soft breath messed his dirty gold coils. They were at their longest. Except for the ebbing light from a candle on my desk, my house was asleep – Lonan needed to go home.
For the first time, I wondered if anyone cared where he was.
Another small part of the little friendship narrative! (This really is the part of the story where I get nostalgic for my childhood, isn’t it) Ray starts to discover more about Lonan’s home life in this part of the story, but there’s not much that I think I want to reveal about that for now.
CHAPTER: THE CRUX OF IT
Tumblr media
Why did I feel so paranoid? I found myself staring out the window, into the film of blue that the late sun shown onto the grass and trying to remember what summer felt like.
My main problem was that I didn’t know how to talk to Jude unless it was about Sugarfell. I ran from the hush of cigarette smoke behind closing doors and heard her loud voice in conversations. Even though there might have still been a part of me that wanted to be friends with her, I didn’t have much to base that feeling off of. I could have spent hours clicking the little pieces of her that I had together, but the crux of it was that I would never know Jude unless I forced myself to.
For some reason, that really scared me.
I spent all week trying to think of what to say to her. By Friday afternoon, I still had nothing.
I left off writing with Ray actively avoiding Jude’s little investigation into the arsonist. Ray doesn’t want to be involved in this because she feels that it will throw her sense of normalcy off course. She really just wants to learn how to adapt to a life without her best friend. (It doesn’t help that she’s got fresh trauma)
What will Ray decide? I don’t know. We shall see. (just kidding I know)
Sorry this update was longer! I think I would like to start updating more often than once a month just because they would be shorter and those of you reading this won’t forget what happened in the last update. There are thousands and thousands of words that didn’t show up in this update because - like I said - I don’t know whether I want to publish this story ever?? I’ll probably talk more about this in a separate update.
Thank you so much to those of you who read about my story! I hope you enjoy it!
:)
p.s. btw I now have a myWriteClub account! You can check it out here and stalk me as I tragically fail my writing goals!

What if there was a Walt Disney Fighting Game? [Video Game Concept]
Note: I am well aware, that Disney would probably never say yes in a million years to this idea. Taking their beloved, child friendly characters and having them fight?!
OH THE HORROR?!
I am also aware there have been concepts for this in the past.
Final Fantasy Dissidia was supposed to be a Kingdom Hearts fighting game, but Nomura felt uncomfortable portraying Disney characters in such a violent atmosphere.
And there are sketches of what a Walt Disney fighting game could've been, inspired by Super Smash Bros, before it was canceled. It would've focused on more violent characters such as Gaston, Beast, Ursula, Captain Hook, Captain Silver and the Horned King. But the idea was dropped.
Here's the link.
This entire post is just building and putting together what a Disney fighting game would look like to me, if one came out in today's world. It's all merely speculation and ideas that's been in the back of my head for awhile.
(Special thanks to @mayflower-gal for helping me set this up. 😁)
Anyways, let's get started!
Part 1: The Plot
For the plot, I believe it would have to be something simple, since this an idea for a first game. It's the start of a potentially huge franchise, so I wanna keep it not only simple, but an aspect that helps kick off the potential series. And pull in many fans, old and new of Disney.
Let's take into account one thing: what's a recurring theme across various Disney movies (and overall media)?
Is it the lovable, comic relief sidekick that makes audiences laugh? Is it the songs that kids find themselves singing, long after the tale is done and the curtain has closed? Is it perhaps, the clever celebrity choices for important side characters?
No, It's the one defining aspect that draws in audiences, both new and old, bringing you to fall in love with the characters as the story is told:
Wishes.
Pinocchio wishes to be a real boy. Beast and all his servants wish to be human again. Tiana wishes to have her own restaurant. Ariel wishes to see the world beyond the sea.
Everyone wishes for something more in their life and have dreams that they wish come true.
What if all those wishes were counted? Collected?
Watched over. Much like a parent to their children. Or a teacher to their students.
Found engaging. Found entertaining. Found comforting. Found peaceful. Found introspective.
Looked at with childlike wonder and glee when accomplished.
But frowned on when those wish for selfish desires. And an even deeper disappointment at those very same inhuman desires, coming true.
Good and bad exists inside every person, it's just a matter of what one chooses to act on and stand by at the end of the day.
What someone wishes for is reflective of that.
Now imagine that same being coming to life and wrecking havoc across the Disney universe. Judging for themself, if any of these colorful, imaginative characters, truly deserve their...
Happily,
Ever
After.
Yep, the main plot of the story mode is all the various Disney characters literally fighting for wishes and dreams to come true...
against the LITERAL embodiment of wishing upon a star.
Each playable character having their own unique ending.
Some endings being repeats of your favorite Disney movies, with some minor changes to acknowledge the game's plot. While others are original due to the wide cast of characters that are available, besides your favorite Disney Heroes.
For example, you beat the story mode as say, Pinocchio, he wishes to be a real boy.
I know it sounds very redundant since a majority of these things already happen in the Disney movies, but I feel as though relieving them would be fun. In addition to some original ones that didn't happen with either the villains or less major characters.
It's only the hypothetical first game and I wanted start with something simple, that fans could easily get into. More complex plots, with more character interactions should be saved for any possible sequels.
Part 2: The Gameplay
The game would be your typical 2D fighting game. You have,
Combos exclusive to every character that requires practice.
Playstyles that make each character feel unique.
Special moves for each character to get the upper hand and the main focus in besting your opponent in 1 VS 1 matches.
Of course, there's dialogue before fights in the character intros. With so many to pick from, it had to be put in somewhere.
It resembles 2D fighting games that you've all no doubt heard of, such as Marvel VS Capcom or Street Fighter.
But what would a Disney fighting game have to offer on the table, in order to survive the overall video game market?
It would have to be something unique and a feature that not only gives it originality, but a chance to stand out with so much creativity and innovation. Practically begging fans for more.
Which is why I present to you: Disney Songs.
Or as this game prompt will call them: Musical Finales.
The highlight of many Disney movies and overall media, the music is what leaves a lasting impression on many audiences. Which is not surprising, since Disney is mostly a musical. At least in terms of most of their films.
With so many iconic songs from throughout the company's history, of course I'll be squeezing them somehow!
Each character has a music meter, that can only be filled up with how the player times and follows the beat of the character they play as. Follow the rhythm and beat of a character, and it will fill up quicker. Get cut off by the opponent and it doesn't fill up.
That beat being the music of the stage each player fights on, by attacking to the music and the same time. Think of it like the Sound Battles mechanic in Mother 3.
Every character has four different kinds of attacks: Neutral, Musical, Wonderful and Special.
Neutral Attacks are normal attacks that are mostly used to set up combos.
Musical Attacks are attacks that deal more impact, when timed with the music of the stage.
Wonderful Attacks can be seen as character oriented attacks, that embody the personality and charm of the character you play as. And can be used to entertain the audience. We'll get into that later.
Special Attacks are unique finisher moves that require a separate meter to be filled up, as with most fighting games.
Now what happens when the music meter is full? A Disney Song starts playing of course!
Say you filled up Cinderella's music meter for example, then "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" starts playing, granting some unique abilities for Cinderella.
Each song would grant different outcomes and bonuses for the various characters. They're not Special Attacks, as that's already a separate mechanic already.
For example, "Part of Your World" starts playing if you're playing as Ariel, filling up the stage with water and slowing down the opponent, giving Ariel a chance to either take advantage of that, bump items into them or create big waves of water.
But what happens if BOTH characters trigger the music meter at the same time?!
Well, that's where this gimmick becomes a fight for which song keeps on playing!
Both songs would start playing, both at the same time and volume. Except, both characters have to compete to see which is stronger.
This is done by the two characters fighting, before triggering a rhythm game between the two. Once one is the victor, the other song fades, while the other stays playing. Doubling the duration of that character's Musical Finale.
Another mechanic is the Entertainment Meter. Every level you fight on has one, that determines which fighter the audience likes more. Via Wonderful attacks, you can charm the audience into supporting you more. This activates things like getting healing items or stat boosts in power and speed. Some of your favorite Disney sidekicks even provide aid from the audience!
It's almost like watching a Disney movie live and being able to interact with the story!
Or the battle system in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
I feel as though this is the best way of keeping the game interesting, giving it an identity of its own and still embodying that magic people will grow to love. It can also lead to some entertaining interactions in the background or foreground of a stage, as the music meter also brings in characters that would not be playable, but support playable characters nonetheless. Like Flounder and Sebastian.
Of course, either feature could be turned off if you're not a fan of that sort of thing, but that's a given.

Part 4: The Roster
The bread and butter of many fighting games, the roster is no doubt one I had a bit of trouble putting together. With so many characters from over the years, it's no surprise. But since this is the outline of a possible first game, here's my interpretation.
Also, the cast is big to avoid being too barren or dull.
And because I had a lot of fun putting it all together.
Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse): The all around character of the game, he mostly fights by a series of cartoonish tricks, magic tricks and his paintbrush from Epic Mickey. His Special Attack would have him break the fourth wall like and rewind the fight like an old film projector in reverse. Except he heals, while the opponent receives twice the damage. His Musical Finale "Sorcerer's Apprentice" has him use Yensid's Sorcerer hat to its fullest and give his overall moveset more flashes to distract the opponent and slow them down.
Donald Duck (Donald Duck): Everyone's favorite, greedy mallard and the world's angriest duck. Donald would fight mainly with toon force, his fists, his bad luck and his anger. The more damage he takes, the angrier he gets. His Special Attack would have him don the Duck Avenger persona from his PK days and use a series of superhero gadgets to finish the opponent. His Musical Finale "The Three Caballeros" trades his anger for Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles showing up, making him happy. As they hurt the opponent, each time they hit Donald, to keep him happy.
Goofy (Goofy): Everyone's favorite Disney dad, Goofy joins the fight as not the brightest but with the biggest heart. He has toon force to aid him in some unconventional ways. His Special Attack would have him become Super Goof from his older days. His Musical Finale "Eye To Eye" would restore health everytime he dodges an attack, with a dancing flair to it.
Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves): The first Disney Princess, Snow White makes her debut and she's not alone. The Seven Dwarves direct most of her attacks, such as tossing rocks, mining tools as weapons and even just grabbing the opponent and tossing them. Snow White herself can sing and command woodland animals to tie up opponents or just fight to defend her. Her Special Attack would have the Dwarves try to roll a boulder, only for lightning to strike on the opponent and the boulder as extra damage. Her Musical Finale "Whistle While You Work" will call on a huge number of forest animals, as they tidy up the stage and Snow White, slowly replenishing her health and slowing down the opponent.
Pinocchio (Pinocchio): Don't lie in his presence, as that nose is not only for show. Pinocchio fights mostly by using his nose as a staff, the Blue Fairy bringing other toys to life to aid him and Jiminy Cricket distracting the opponent with music. Pinocchio's Special Attack would have him wish upon a star and turn himself into a real boy, as the opponent is turned into a puppet and loses damage as a result. Pinocchio's Musical Finale "I've Got No Strings" would cover the stage in thin lines used for puppets: if the opponent touches one, their frozen briefly. If a projectile attack hits, the same happens.
Cinderella (Cinderella): The bell of the ball and someone whom never gives up on kindness, Cinderella will use the dance moves she showed off at the ball for her moveset, having a dancing and musical feel to how she plays and flashy dances to win against the the opponent. With her Fairy Godmother using her magic to help her, such as flashes of light. Her Special Attack would have the clock strike midnight and she leaves behind her glass slipper: once the opponent touches it they get weighed down by a giant magic dress. Cinderella's Musical Finale "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" would have the Fairy Godmother cast a series of spells over the stage, as a new carriage pops up every time Cinderella pulls off a combo. The carriages run over the opponent and can even carry Cinderella to safety.
Peter Pan (Peter Pan): Leader of the Lost Boys and Captain Hook's second biggest pain in the butt, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are here. Peter Pan has a pocket knife with him and Tinker Bell's pixie dust for aerial attacks. His Special Attack would have him toss a bunch of gold on the opponent, as the rest of the Lost Boys tackles them and beats them up for the treasures. His Musical Finale "You Can Fly" would create a trail of pixie dust behind him, that randomly causes the opponent to either jump too high or too low.
Captain Hook (Peter Pan): Keep all 'ticks' and 'tocks' away from this pirate! Captain Hook has a wide array of hooks to switch between, a flintlock pistol and his sword to win the battle. His Special Attack would have him run away from the Tick-Tock the Crocodile, as said crocodile attacks the opponent instead of Hook. His Musical Finale "A Pirate's Life/Elegant Captain Hook" would call his ship the Jolly Rodger onto the stage, as the pirates on the ship occasionally throw knives at the opponent and shoot at them, everytime Hook is caught in a combo and can't escape.
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty): Aurora, sleeping beauty herself, is doing anything but sleep and her guardians are making sure of that! Her attacks has the Good Fairies use their magic in numerous ways, such as moving objects, animating objects and even petrification. Her Special Attack has Prince Philip show up with the Sword of Truth and the Shield of Virtue, to deal heavy damage on the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Once Upon A Dream" boosts her stats everytime she's hit.
Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty): The Mistress of all Evil, Maleficent uses a wide array of magic powers from cursed, throny vines, to her iconic green fires, she's one tough fighter from a distance. Her Special Attack would have her turn into a dragon and breath fire down on the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Once Upon A Dream" would have her make the opponent more drowsy, each time they hit her, until falling asleep, unless they keep moving.
Robin Hood (Robin Hood): The sly fox of England and one talented theif, this fox focuses on disguises, archery, swordsmanship and woodsmanship to make his way. His Special Attack would have authorities show up to arrest him, as they rain down arrows on the opponent in the process. His Musical Finale "Running Through The Forest" would allow him to dodge all attacks, without needing to hit the controls or input buttons.
Basil of Baker Street (The Great Mouse Detective): World's greatest detective! At least in the mouse world that is. Basil would investigate the stage of the fight, much like a crime scene and even pick up clues that double as weapons, such as a propeller or a mouse trap. His Special Attack would have him investigate a crime scene that hurt the opponent, before pushing them aside as 'worthless' evidence. His Musical Finale "Let Me Be Good To You" would have him require no further evidence and counter each hit with a deduction on his opponent's crime and even stop them from performing combos. Doing damage in the process.
Professor Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective): Never call him a rat. Ever. This crime boss of the miniature crime world be no stranger to fist fights and gleefully take a swing at your demise, whether it's his fists, cane or traps. If not him, then his minions are more than happy to drown some orphans! His Special Attack would have him call his pet cat, Felicia to devour the opponent. His Musical Finale "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" would give him more durability to hits, more destruction to the stage and traps cover more range on the stage.
Ariel (The Little Mermaid): Princess of the Sea, everyone's favorite mermaid is ready to explore beyond the sea. Armed with her father's trident, some amazing swimming skills and various sea animals at her command, she's more than ready. Her Special Attack would have her conjure a giant wave, that also covers the opponent in sea creatures. Her Musical Finale "Part Of Your World" fills the stage with water and can have Ariel bump floating objects into the opponent.
Ursula (The Little Mermaid): The last sea witch you would want to cross paths with, Ursula has eels to do her biding, poisonous ink clouds and even thunderclouds. Her Special Attack would have her turn giant via King Triton's trident and use the added power to attack the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Poor Unfortunate Souls" has her disguise herself as the opponent and slowly regain health from all souls being eaten by her. As a bonus, if she's infront of a mirror that's on the stage, her reflection will be her true form.
Belle (Beauty and the Beast): My, quite an odd girl, reading books and getting on the field of battle?! Belle's entire moveset would revolve around books; not magic books, just books on the rest of the cast and fairytales overall. She would be able to switch between each of these books and use what she's learned from them. For Example, 'Romeo and Juliet' gives Belle immunity to stat changes and rose themed weapons that hurt the opponent, like throwing weapons. 'Aladdin' gives her a magic ring that can conjure up magic smoke, furniture on the foe and teleport her. 'Jack and the Beanstalk' plants vines that can raise her up or entangle the foe. There's more books at her disposal, but that's just the general idea. Her Special Attack has her father ride in on his invention, chopping up an entire forest until the opponent is covered and crushed by chopped up logs. Her Musical Finale "Tale As Old As Time" gives her the power to 'skip' a fairytale, turning each of her attacks into the endings from the books. For example, 'Aladdin' would trap the opponent in an oil lamp, leaving room for her to attack.
Beast (Beauty and the Beast): The poor and cruel prince, turned into a monster as evil as the one in his heart. Beast has his boost in strength from his beastly form and claws to defeat the opponent. The curse not only affected him: his servants are by his side. Lumiere can incinerate the opponent or plant fires on the ground, Cogsworth can distract them with timed clock sounds, Mrs. Potts can spill tea to slip up the opponent, Chip will knock over bookshelves and Wardrobe can block attacks. His Special Attack would turn the opponent into a piece of furniture, leaving them open for attacks: each opponent having a different transformation. His Musical Finale "Be Our Guest" would have every attack with one of his servants, also heal Beast in addition to hurting the opponent.
Gaston (Beauty and the Beast): Nooo oooone's slick as Gaston! Quick as Gaston! No one's neck is as incredibly thick as Gaston! He's especially good at combo breaking! Boy what a guy that Gaston! Gaston has his inconic blunderbass and his fists, along with a bow and quiver and a hunting knife to deal with an opponent, almost as if they were an animal he's hunting. His Special Attack would have an angry mob charge at the opponent and beat them up. His Musical Finale "Gaston" gives him a strength boost, everytime he pulls off a combo successfully.
Aladdin (Aladdin): Everyone's favorite street rat and theif, he's not alone on the field of battle as Abu and Genie are here to help him. Abu can cling to the opponent and hit them repeatedly, Magic Carpet can be used for aerial attacks, Aladdin has a sword that he 'borrowed' from a guard and Genie can shape-shift in a variety of ways to best the opponent. Aladdin's Special Attack would have Genie distract the opponent, as Aladdin steals something off them and uses it to beat them. Aladdin's Music Finale "Friend Like Me" would have Genie grant a wish, each time Aladdin gets a combo, such as a stat boosts and healing.
Jasmine (Aladdin): The sultan's own daughter that would rather be anything than a prize to be given away. She has learned self defense skills, her father's guards and her pet tiger Rajah in her moveset. Occasionally tapping into the phenenomal, Cosmic power of his Genie form to do some real damage. And Iago is here as well... mostly to complain. His Special Attack would have him become an all powerful Genie and Iago wishing for ways to 'hurt' (not kill) the opponent. His Musical Finale "You're Only Second Rate" would boost all of his stats and attacks, except he can't KO the opponent until the Musical Finale is done.
Simba (The Lion King): King of the Pride Rock and son of Mufasa, the Lion King himself is more than prepared with his claws and iconic roar. His roar can even control the weather to strike lightning and cause windstorms. His Special Attack would have him call on the spirit of his father, Mufasa, as the two of them roar at the opponent. His Musical Finale "Circle Of Life" will have him remember, how we are all connected and draw on the life-force of nature, slowly healing him and giving his roars more range.
Scar (The Lion King): Mufasa's little brother and King after his timely demise, Scar has his claws and his hyenas to make short work of his foe as if their nothing more than a light snack. His Special Attack would toss the opponent of a cliff, into a Wildebeest stampede just like in the movie. As a bonus, he would say 'long live the king's son' if Simba is the opponent. His Musical Finale "Be Prepared" has him do damage without needing to attack the opponent and just walking into the opponent.
Pocahontas (Pocahontas): Daughter of Chief Powhatan, this Disney Princess has the skills necessary in order to survive and win. Her Special Attack would have her people come in to fight alongside her and best the opponent. Rapunzel (Tangled): The lost princess of the Kingdom of Corona, blessed with magic hair and has quite the efficient frying pan. Her hair can not only heal herself a bit, but can be swung from, tie up the opponent and makes for a surprising whip. Her Special Attack has Flynn and Maximus ride in, with Rapunzel hitching a ride, as the three take down the opponent. Her Musical Finale "I See The Light" fills up the stage with lanterns, that can blind the opponent if they touch any.
Hiro and Baymax (Big Hero 6): The child genius and the helper robot turned fighter have become quite the crime fighting duo, that honor Tadashi's wish of wanting to help people. Baymax does the fighting, with Hiro on his back, such as martial arts, rocket fist, an energy blade and sonic blaster. Her Special Attack has her do her job as a cop and arrest the opponent, with the entire police force joining in to help. Her Musical Finale "Try Everything" plants tourist attractions all over the stage, that can hurt the opponent and heal Judy.
Elsa (Frozen): The Queen of Arendelle and the Ice Queen herself, forced to conceal don't feel, don't let them know. But she'll be doing anything but that here! Elsa has ice powers to freeze the opponent, create pillars of ice, ice slides, ice skates etc. Her Special Attack calls in Marshmallow to deal with the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Let It Go" allows her ice powers to come to life and aid her in battle.
Moana (Moana): Moana of Motuni, whom has sailed the sea to return the Heart of Te Fiti with Maui. She has a harpoon and an oar, along with the ocean helping her and watching over her. Her Special Attack returns the Heart of Te Fiti to Te Fiti, whom fully heals Moana, temporarily boosting her attack. Moana's Musical Finale "How Far I'll Go" covers the stage in water that has boats to hit the opponent and granting Moana faster speed.
Maui (Moana): The Maori Demigod of the wind and sea, with quite the number of feats from over the years. With his magic fish hook, he can shapeshift into a number of animals, his most common being a hawk. His Special Attack being lassoing the sun into the opponent. His Musical Finale "You're Welcome" makes all damage to Maui, take longer to leave an impact.
And that's that. A LOT longer than I thought it would be. Now your probably thinking, what about all the other Disney media? It's an idea for the first game, so other characters (Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Scrooge McDuck, Goliath, Kim Possible, etc.) would appear in a potential sequel.
Or DLC, since every game these days has it.
Thanks so much for reading all this and taking the time to do! I would love to hear some thoughts and feedback! I had a blast making all this and would like to see if you're interested in hearing more video game ideas.

(if it's ok I ask this?) Skeletons react to their S/O wearing a pair of Halloween shorts that says TRICK on the front, and TREAT on the Ass with skeleton-hands on the butt cheeks?
Undertale Sans - He's outraged. Not because of the shorts. But because he bought exactly the same one. You are facing each other and now what? Who's doing the first step? He's so destabilised he forgot how his brain works. You just beat him at his own game.
Undertale Papyrus - ... "That's not an appropriate Halloween costume, what will the neighborhoods' children think???" Ok. Or maybe he's trying to change the subject because he can't look you in the eyes. His face is entirely orange.
Underswap Sans - Well, now that seems like a program. He was about to go outside for trick or treats, but this looks a thousand times better. He's vibrating with excitement. Tonight, no candies for children, S/O and him are too busy.
Underswap Papyrus - "oh wow". He just went home for his hunt for candies, and he was planning to eat nothing but candies all night. Welp. With a resigned sigh, he drops his sweets and follows you. Blue waits for you to lock yourselves in the room and steal all the candies. Jerk.
Underfell Sans - "why the hell not both we've got all night" he says with a very flirty deep voice. Sound way more fun than scaring the shit out of the children who are passing in front of the house. He's all yours.
Underfell Papyrus - So... Edge is very enthusiastic about the idea. BUT to go the best with the Halloween thing, he put traps everywhere in the house, and also in the bedroom. He got a little carried away. It's an intriguing experiment, trying not to get trap while... You know. It was fun until you accidentally activate the electric maze. You both ended at the hospital, but you regret NOTHING.
Horrortale Sans - "treats". Ok. So maybe Oak didn't really understood what you meant. He's looking at you with puppy eyes, in front of a mountain of candies, and he's waiting for more candies. You feel ashame but you gave him all the treats you had saved for the children. Oak is purring so hard right now. It's the best day of his life.
Horrortale Papyrus - "I... Uh... I mean... Well..." He's tempted, but what about the party he organised for the children in the farm? He can't let Oak watch all the kids? ... The party only starts in 30 minutes. You have 25 minutes. You're running to the bedroom. Oak will search for his brother all this time, wondering if he ate all the candies without him. Oak is sad. I hope you had a nice 25 minutes.
Swapfell Sans - His smile widened. Would you look at that. With the power of your shirts and the power of his pumpkin flavor halloween jacuzzi, you can do wonderful things. But first you need to get rid of Rus. It's not that hard. You put a bucket in his arms and kicked him out to go hunt for candies, then lock all the doors. You'll never know Rus decided to create a candy mafia while you were having fun and almost did a coup d'état with all the children of the town. Rule n.1 : Don't let Rus alone, dammit.
Swapfell Papyrus - He's not very convinced at first, he would much prefer traumatise children, until you said "I have mcdonalds creamy deluxe sauce to play with". He's all yours. You put Nox outside with an axe so he can have fun and lock all the doors. Nox got arrested because he took the game a bit too seriously, but who cares.

S.T. REWRITE - S2:E9; Chapter Nine, The Gate - [Pt. 2]
A Will Byers x Reader Series
The survivors turn up the heat on the monstrous force that's holding Will hostage, and Y/n's powers are put to the ultimate test in the process. Eleven makes plans to finish what she started.
Tumblr media
A/n: **PEAK** Mama Steve here. Don't forget to get him something nice next Mothers day, okay?
||3rd Person POV||
"It's not like it was before," Hopper recounts to the rallied group in the kitchen. "It's grown."
He leans against the counter, everyone is packed inside the kitchen with him. The majority circle the table but everyone is listening intently regardless as Hopper continues.
"A lot. And, I mean, that's considering we can get in there. The place is crawling with those dogs."
"Demodogs." Dustin quickly corrects.
Lucas and Y/n meet eyes and shake their heads in matching disbelief. Somewhat dramatically, Y/n rolls her eyes and drops her forehead on top of Lucas's shoulder in exhaustion. She shakes her head and he chuckles weakly and noiselessly down at her before they return their attention to an equally aggravated Hopper.
"I'm sorry," he says flatly. "what?"
"I said, uh, Demodogs. Like Demogorgan and dogs. Like, you put them together, its sounds pretty badass--"
"How is this important right now?" Hopper demands, cutting him off.
"It's not. I'm sorry," Dustin mumbled.
El speaks up, looking directly at Hopper knowing he might resist her statement.
"I can do it."
Hopper and Mike share a brief and subtle look before Hopper shakes his head at her protectively.
"You're not hearing me."
Never blinking, her eyebrows raised in a challenging manner right back at the man.
"I'm hearing you. I can do it."
"Even if El can," Mike cuts in, looking around the room. "there's still another problem. If the brain dies, the body dies."
"I thought that was the whole point," Max asks.
"It is, but if we're really right about this... I mean, if El closes the gate and kills the Mind Flayer's army..."
"Will's apart of that army." Lucas finishes.
Mike nods gravely. "Closing the gate will kill him."
A heavy silence befalls the room, and soon all are wearing the same grave and fearful expression as Mike. All apart from Joyce Byers, who's eyes sit wide and her heart racing.
She had an idea.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Everyone follows her closely into Jonathan's bedroom where Will slept. She looks at his sleeping form. He was completely on top of the blankets, as he had been sleeping the past few nights. The final pieces click into place when her eyes trail to the open window. The curtain dances in the air as a steady stream of chilly autumn air was being pumped into the room.
"He likes it cold." She mutters.
Hopper looks on in confusion between Joyce and Will. "What?"
"That's what Will kept saying to me," Joyce mutters. "He likes it cold."
She marches across the room and shuts the window without hesitation. She turns to the others, agitated.
"We keep giving it what it wants."
Nancy nods in thought.
"If this is a virus, and Will's the host, then..."
"Then we need to make the host uninhabitable," Jonathan confirms.
"So if he likes it cold..."
"We need to burn it out of him." Joyce nods.
Several hearts spiked at the conclusion, but none more so than a certain individual lingering at the edge of the group. Her mind had been racing at inordinate speeds as they developed their theory. Her mouth ran bone dry, and her throat felt like sandpaper. But much like El just minutes ago, she knew that despite the risks, she had to what she had to do.
She steps forward into view, catching everyone's eye, looking to Will sadly. The state he was in was enough to assure her of her decision, to put to rest any lingering unease. She eyes Hopper and Joyce, and with a definitive nod, Y/n speaks.
"I think I can help with that."
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
The house was now completely abuzz with activity as everyone prepares. Will's sleeping form - now wrapped in the Byers' warmest and thickest blanket - was now being carried outside by an urgent Hopper.
"Take Denfield, then you'll see a large oak tree." He orders to Jonathan quickly.
After a brief, but hefty catchup on Y/n's developed abilities - a conversation that rose many questions, and was news to some - the final details of their plan began to fall into place.
"Sweetie, what are you saying?" Joyce had asked.
Her, Jonathan and Nancy were the last to receive the shocking news of her origins. Hopper only asked one question, and it did not surprise Y/n as to why seeing as he had discovered and previously possessed the Missing Experiment files.
"You're the one they were looking for all those years, aren't you?"
Y/n nodded and pulled out the files from her jacket again. She handed them to him and he examined the folder in surprise. It quickly evaporated before he returned his gaze - and the files - to the girl, nodding.
"I always wondered, but I thought it was too big of a coincidence." He mumbled.
Y/n shrugged weakly, with a hint of a deflated smile. "Guess not."
Now the matter at hand was getting Will somewhere he wouldn't be able to recognize.
Hence their trip to Hopper's cabin.
It was decided fairly quickly they would need to split up. Groups were formed even quicker. Y/n would go with the Byers to Hopper's cabin, where hopefully they would be able to smoke the Mind Flayer out of Will. This group was inappropriately but rather aptly named by Dustin as the MacNeil Team after his favorite horror film, the Exorcist. But not without some hurried scolding from his sister.
Dustin, that is literally the least important thing right now!
Hopper would be escorting El to the gate so she could close it once and for all. Another group coined by Dustin, as the Gatekeepers. Dude! And the rest would remain stationed at the Byers home, on-call should either group need assistance. And much to everyone's great agitation, Dustin declared them the Brady Bunch.
"You're gonna swing a right. That road is gonna dead-end," he continues. "And it's about a five-minute walk from there."
Hopper lowers Will into the now open car, Jonathan gripping the edge of the door tightly as he runs through the checklist in his brain.
"Okay. Denfield to oak tree. Swing a right." He repeats, nodding. "That's it. But it's channel ten, right?"
Jonathan swings the door closed, and Hopper nods, placing his hand on the kid's shoulder.
"It's channel ten. Listen," he pants, still out of breath from the sudden rush of things. "You let me know when that thing is out of him."
Jonathan manages a nod, and Hopper stalks off. He shifts around to face the car, and peered inside he sees his brother. He looked so fragile, but it was also threatening knowing what was inside him. A great sigh escapes Jonathan and he pulls his hand down his face in a nervous manner. Before tearing his gaze away to help the others prepare, he makes a silent promise to his sleeping brother.
'We won't give up, Will. I promise.'
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Two shaky beams of light skitter across the pile of discarded things in the Byers backyard. They grow larger and larger until Nancy and Steve stand at the edge and begin fishing through the storage, flashlights in hand. Crickets and the sound of the wind snaking through the trees nearby fill the silence created by the two. Finally, Steve speaks without meeting her eye.
"You should go with him,"
Nancy looks up at Steve questionably. "What?"
"With Jonathan," Steve replies.
He's now kneeling beside the heap, his eyes are hollow as he holds the bundle of Christmas lights from the previous year. His mind is flooded with chilling memories.
"No, I'm," Nancy scoffs lightly. "I'm not just gonna leave Mike."
Steve dropped the heavy bundle of lights, rises to his feet, and nears Nancy. His eyes spotting a useful contraption among the clutter.
"No one's leaving anyone." He assures simply.
Seeing it too, she pulls a large summer fan by the handle and holds it up, allowing Steve to dig for the heater buried beneath it. He pulls it from the heap and smiles sadly, though a hint of pride in his voice as he thinks of his brief time with the kids.
"I may be a pretty shitty boyfriend, but..." he laughs weakly, his smile still lingering. "turns out I'm actually a pretty damn good babysitter."
He hands her the heater and she takes it reluctantly, her gaze finds his bittersweet stare. The guilt she had previously shelved in the past few days returns and all she can find herself saying is his name.
"Steve..."
His tone matches his eyes, and he shakes his head softly. "It's okay, Nance."
"It's okay." He reassures her.
She wracks her brain for the words, but by the time she manages a syllable, he's already walking away. Nancy watches sadly, his words bouncing around her mind as she watches him disappear into the house, leaving her with nothing but the heater and her thoughts.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
"Just be careful, alright?" Mike pleas. "I can't lose you again."
El shakes her head definitively and gazes up into Mike's wide and glassy eyes. The ones that had always made her heart flutter.
"You won't lose me."
The last of the preparations had been made, and everyone had begun to split up, not without plenty of heartfelt goodbyes, Mike and El among the last.
Mike's cheeks are already pink from crying, and she watches sadly as a single glossy tear streaks down his face. She can hear the sadness in his voice, and her grip on his hands tighten in a reassuring and gentle squeeze.
"Do you promise?" He croaks.
El swallows the lump in her throat and puts on a sad smile.
"Promise."
Their eyes lingered on one another and as they both so longed for during their time apart. Slowly, they drew closer, their eyes flickering to one another's lips.
And all too quickly the moment ended at the sound of Hopper's perfectly timed voice.
"El," took a puff from his cigarette, his eyes glazing over Mike's in a warning. "Come on, let's go. It's time."
With a deep and shaky breath, she turns back to look at Mike. They share a sorrowful and understanding nod filled with a thousand promises.
They would see each other again.
Tentatively she backs away, not wanting to part from Mike any more than he did and that's when she spots Y/n on the front porch. She was locked in a bone-crushing hug with Dustin, who didn't seem to want to let her go. His eyes were squeezed shut and his hat was pushed up higher against his head as he tucked himself further into the hug, and she saw his lips moving as he spoke something to her. No doubt words of encouragement and pleas to come back safe.
El smiled sadly.
"El, what is it?" Mike followed her eyes over his shoulder, and his face hardened a bit.
El tore her eyes away from the tearful siblings - feeling quite tearful herself - and back at Mike. Her thumb stroked the back of his palm lightly, bringing his attention back to her.
"Mike..."
His lips were still pressed into a firm line, but he eases immediately when he saw El. "Yeah?"
"Try to understand,"
"Understand what?"
"She was keeping you safe."
Mike searched her eyes, not quite knowing how to react.
"Because I made her promise."
Mike bit his lip in thought, his emotions battling one another. El saw this and squeezed his palms once more before locking her gaze with his to assure her word.
"'Mike needs to know'"
"Huh?"
"That's what she told me. When she saw me. She wanted you to know."
Mike looked taken aback, and timidly he looked over his shoulder once more at his friend. She pulled away from Dustin, a sad and sniveling smile on her face before she sensed eyes on her. She turned her head to find Mike looking at her, and for a moment she didn't know how to react. She just waited to gauge his reaction before offering him a weak smile. He looked back at El before the moment could dwell any longer.
"El," It was Hopper, he was now climbing into the truck. "Come on."
She returns her gaze to Mike one final time and nods before departing. Mike feels the presence of his friends collecting behind him in front of the porch. They all watch with a worried stare as their friends and loved ones pile inside their respective vehicles. Nancy climbs into the front seat with Jonathan, El does the same with Hopper. Y/n, meanwhile, joins Joyce in the backseat of Jonathan's car to be with Will. With sinking hearts, they watch as they disappear down the driveway and into the night. Unable to do anything but hope they will see one another again.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
El's head rests against the seat as she watches the trees fly by her window. Neither her nor Hopper have spoken a word since they left the house, but Hopper quickly changes things.
"So, what? We just not gonna talk about it?"
Without leaving the seat, her head lazily rolls across her shoulders to face Hopper. "About what?"
Hopper shrugs halfheartedly. "Oh, I don't know, just curious why all the sudden you look like some kind of MTV punk."
El looks back at the scenery, not answering and Hopper continues.
"I'm not mad, kid, I just wanna know where you've been... That's all."
Hopper spares a few moments away from the road to look at her, gauging for a reaction then she finally speaks.
"To see Mama."
His head snapped back to the road in shock, his heart plummeting and guilt swept over him. It's quiet for another moment as he processes this, and he speaks again his voice is gentle and listening.
"Okay...?"
Silence.
"How'd you get there?"
"A truck." She answers.
His heart leaps into his throat, and he does a double-take. He tries to suppress his onslaught of emotions, knowing he can't let his worry for her fester into anger again. As best as he can, he tries to remain calm.
"A truck?"
She looks at him. "A big truck."
Jesus, this wouldn't be easy.
"A big truck? Whose truck was it?"
Her answer did not calm him in the slightest.
"A man's."
"A man's?"
"A nice man."
His mouth hangs open in a small gasp as he tries to process the information, his head, all the while whipping back and forth between her and the road.
"Okay. So let me just get this straight in my head, so a nice man in a big truck drove you to see your Mama, and then what? Your Aunt Becky gave you those clothes and that make-up?"
El ponders this for a moment, her mind returning to her interaction with Y/n just days ago. And without tearing her eyes away from the road, she wonders aloud.
"Nobody likes trucks. Why?"
Hopper finds himself bewildered at her comment.
"Wh-? Why does everyone hate trucks? Whatya mean, kid?"
"Y/n. She didn't want to ride with the nice man." She finally looks at Hopper. "She said he might hurt us,"
He eyes her cautiously. He had no previous reason to believe anything had happened to her, and he firmly believed she could have kicked his ass had anything happened. But he had to ask! He still cared about her, and that kind of shit left a lot of baggage.
"Well... he didn't, did he?" He asked gently.
Almost offended, but quite confused as to why no one trusted her or the nice man who helped her, she frowned. She was growing quite agitated, didn't anyone understand the term 'nice man'?
"No." She answered shortly.
"Good," he mumbled, glad that part of the conversation was over. He cleared his throat. "Well, Y/n was still right El, that's very dangerous."
"Why?"
He sighed, taking one hand off the wheel to rake down his face anxiously. It drops into his lap, and he thinks for a moment and glances at her, shaking his head.
"That's a discussion for another time," Another car passes them during their silence, the headlights jumping from Hopper's face to El's and he sighs. "So Y/n came with you to see your Mama?"
No answer. She just stared out of the window.
"'Kay, well those files of hers were at home, so I can only assume you found them and gave them to her? Maybe that's when you two left with the," he sighs deeply. "the 'nice man'?"
Again, no answer.
"Again, kid, I'm... I'm not mad," he tries not to choke on his words. Without his eyes leaving the road, he shrugs, the lump in his throat growing. "I just worry about you... 's all."
He sighs again, and for a few minutes, the car is filled with silence again. The only sounds filling the car is the hum of the engine and the occasional rush as cars zoom by in the other lane. He is surprised when she is the next to speak.
"I..." And then he feels her wide brown eyes on him, her voice is raspy showing she is trying not to cry. "I shouldn't have left."
"Mmm-mmm," he mumbles. "No..."
She feels her gut sink and twist at what she assumes is his agreement with her. He sounds disappointed. And it hurts her. But what she doesn't realize yet is he feels the same. And even though she speaks the words he had been looking for just days ago, they strike daggers into his heart now and all he knows now is regret.
What shocks her is when he continues, he shakes his head in great disappointment, but it is not in her.
"no, this isn't on you kid. I should have been there."
Her lips part slightly in shock, her throat grows sore as she fights back tears but already one is already threatening to spill.
"I should have never lied to you about your Mama... Or about when you could leave."
Her hollow gaze is now fixed on the road as she processes his words as he speaks them.
"There's a lot of things I shouldn't have done."
Her eyes fall to her lap, her heart is pounding faster as the minutes march on, but still, she listens, entranced. His voice is genuine and hoarse.
"Sometimes I feel like..." he stops to fight the tears threatening to spill, years of suppressed heartbreak rushing back to the surface at once. "Like I'm just some kind of black hole, or something."
Her eyes are as foggy as is, but she manages to look at him and speak clearly enough. "Black hole?"
A silent tear breaks through the dam and cascades down her cheek as he answers, unaware.
"Yeah, it's a, you know it's this thing in outer space... it sucks everything towards it and destroys it. Sarah had a picture book about outer space, she loved it." He sniffled.
"Who's Sarah?"
"Sarah?"
He does another double-take, surprised at himself for not sharing that fact of his life sooner with her. Especially since she had reminded him of her all too well and in the nicest ways. He's suddenly aware of the blue band around his wrist again, something of Sarah's he never, ever took off.
A small smile of pride twists his lips, but it's been touched by sadness.
"Sarah's my girl. She's my little girl."
El saw the sadness in his eyes, and as she spoke the words aloud she feared she knew his answer.
"Where is she?"
"Well, that's kind of the thing, kid. She, uh," he says sadly, taking a brief moment to glance up at the stars. The things she loved most. "She left us."
"Gone?" El choked on the word.
"Yeah," he nods. "the black hole... It got her. And somehow... I've just been scared, ya know?"
Another tear escapes her eye, and she feels her head being pulled towards Hopper at what he says next.
"I've just been scared that it would take you too."
He begins to choke up again, and she sees that his eyes are welling with tears.
"And I think that's why I get..." his voice goes away for a moment, and he shakes his head trying to will it back through his tears. "so mad. I'm so sorry. For everything. I can be so... so..."
"Stupid?"
They both crack a smile, and their chuckles break through the air and warm their hearts, melting away the last of the remaining tension and hard feelings. Hopper shakes his head, and on his face sits a wide grin he finds hard to shake.
"Yeah," he laughs. "Stupid. Just really stupid."
Her eyes fall from his smile to the hand that still sits in his lap, and she reaches over to intertwine it with her own small hand. She smiles weakly.
"I've been stupid, too."
"I guess we broke our rule," he chimes, making her smile. "I don't hate it by the way."
His hand gives hers a quick and gentle squeeze before taking it away to gesture to her outfit.
"This whole," he fights a smile. "look."
She looks down at her new outfit and the small sense of pride from before returns. Hopper's hand returns to the wheel, and he smirks at the road, trying not to sound too much like a cheesy dad.
"It's kinda... cool."
The warmth in El's chest spreads, and she finds a grin creeping up on her face at the new word she had taken a liking too.
She nods.
"Bitchin."
The grin on Hopper's face stretched wider, a feat he did not previously think to be possible. He nods, trying hard not chuckle, not wanting her to confuse his happiness as amusement.
"Okay, sure," His grin stretched nearly to his ears. "Bitchin."
No sooner did he speak the word - his eyebrows shooting up in an amused manner now with every intention of being a cheesy and embarrassing dad - did El burst into a quiet fit of laughter. She looked away, wiping the tear away from her cheek but utterly unable to rid herself of her beaming smirk.
El couldn't recall a time she had felt this happy, this hopeful - this at home - in a long time. And neither could Hopper. Even with the frightening and strenuous task before them, they couldn't quite shake the smile off their faces even if they wanted to. And for the first time since he had taken her in all those months ago, they finally felt at home with one another.
Both of them were the missing family they had been looking for.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
"Alright," Dustin pants, swiping at his nose. "He-It should fit."
Steve stands across the kitchen with a deadpan look on his face and a dead Demodog wrapped in a blanket in his arms. Dustin had just finished dumping the contents of the freezer onto the floor, shelf and all, so they could store the corpse temporarily.
"This really necessary?" Steve asks.
"Yes, it is. Okay, this is a groundbreaking scientific discovery. We can't just bury it like some common mammal, okay? It's not a dog!"
Steve's eyes widen briefly, mumbling a 'yeesh' under his breath as he steps towards the fridge.
"Alright, alright," He sends a scornful look at Dustin as the boy steps aside. "But you're explaining this to Mrs. Byers, alright?"
In one swift motion, he swings the dead weight up onto the ledge, but it struggles to fit. It's limp petal-like jowls scrape against the rim of the freezer and when its pulled back, several thick layers of slime remain stitched between it and the fridge. Steve grimaces as he tries to maneuver the Demodog in with little luck, and with disgust still obvious in his voice, he calls out to Dustin over his shoulder.
"Help me out, would ya?!"
After a great deal of shoving, and a whole lot of arguing the boys had managed to close the fridge door with the creature inside. They both sigh, staring at the fridge once again wondering how things had turned out this way. Steve brings up one hand and places it on top of Dustin's head, and ruffles his hat into curls before stalking off.
In the living room, Max knelt before the pile of broken glass where the window had shattered. Using a dustpan and brush she had managed to find lying around, she set to work cleaning up the glass, less no one gets hurt, hoping it would keep her mind somewhat occupied. Lucas had soon joined her with a broom he had remembered being in the kitchen and wasted no time in helping. The silence was much more tolerable in each other's company. Though Mike was no help to their nerves, his footsteps echoed around their skulls non-stop as he paced.
"Mike, would you just stop already?" Lucas breaks.
Mike turned to his friend, his face hard as stone with worry.
"You weren't in there, okay Lucas? That lab is swarming with hundreds of those dogs."
Dustin's voice carries across the house from the kitchen. "Demodogs!"
Mike rolls his eyes, what little patience he had wearing wafer-thin.
"The Chief will take care of her!" Lucas assures.
Max rolls her eyes, muttering under her breath. "Yeah, like she needs protection."
"Listen," Steve said joining the conversation, Dustin lingering by his side as he dries his hands with a rag. "If the coach calls a play, bottom line, you gotta execute it, alright?"
"Okay, first of all, this isn't some stupid sports game," Mike retorts. "And second, we're not even in the game, we're on the bench."
"Ri-uh-we-" Steve stammers. "So my point is,"
The kids all stare at him expectantly, but he just stares off into space as he tries to find the words that never come. Finally, he nods.
"Right, yeah. We're on the bench, so, uh, nothing we can do." He stated, throwing his used dishrag over his shoulder.
"That's not entirely true," Dustin says hopefully, grabbing everyone's attention. "I think these Demodogs, they have a hive mind. And when they ran away from the bus, they were called away."
Lucas spoke up excitedly, latching onto Dustin's thinking.
"So if we get their attention,"
"Maybe we can draw them away from the lab," Max adds.
"And clear a path to the gate!" Mike concluded.
Steve folds his arms, growing more anxious as they grow excited.
"Yeah and we all die!"
"Well, that's one point of view," Dustin argued.
Mike's eyes grew wide as the gears in his brain began to turn, and hurriedly he stalked off passed a bickering Steve and Dustin.
"No, dude, that's not a point of view, that's a fact," he corrected in what was almost a concerned tone.
"I got it!" Mike called, drawing the others after him into the kitchen.
They find him kneeling in front of the fridge, he points feverishly to the large open spot on the map.
"This is where the Chief dug his hole, this is our way into the tunnel!"
Suddenly he jumps back up to his feet and scurries over to where the hall meets the living room.
"Here, right here!" The others catch up and pool around his sides as he points to the large blue spot beneath his feet. "This is like a hub. See where all the tunnels feed into here?"
He drops to his knees, his eyes widen as the plan begins to solidify as he speaks and he gestures around the map excitedly. "Maybe if we set this on fire--"
"Uh, yeah, that's a NO," Steve scolds, completely appalled. And ignored.
"The Mind Flayer would call away his army!" Dustin chimes.
"They'd all come to stop us!"
"Hey!" Steve tries, growing far more worried.
No was listening. Not to him. They all kept feeding into one another's ideas.
"We circle back to the exit-"
"-guys?" Steve chuckles nervously.
"-by the time they realize we're gone..."
"-hEY?"
"El will be at the gate!"
"HEY! HEY!" Steve shouts, even clapping his hands to get their attention.
Finally, though, it works. They all turn around to find him glaring at them with his hands rested on his hips, the dishrag still hung over his shoulder. His eyes are wild with panic and he wags his finger at the map and at them, shaking his head.
"This is not happening."
"But-"
"No, no, no, no!" He rebukes. "No 'buts'! Listen, I promised I'd keep you shitheads safe and that's exactly what I plan on doing,"
Max rolls her head back in annoyance and Lucas sighs as he scolds them.
"We're staying here, on the bench, and we're waiting for the starting team to do their job. Does everybody understand that?"
"This isn't a stupid sports game!" Mike whines.
Steve rips the rag off his shoulder and jabs it in Mike's direction, seething. "I said does everybody understand that?"
Nobody answers.
"I need a yes," he demands.
Still, nobody answers. Mike merely glares at the floor, Max stares boredly at the ceiling, Lucas looks at Steve weirdly, and Dustin just gives him the same deadpan and unimpressed stare he gave earlier.
He's about to say something, his fuse dangerously short when suddenly the obnoxious sound of an engine revving in distance pulls everyone's attention to the living room window. Everyone seems confused at first, except for Max whose face immediately drains of all color.
She races to the window, having heard that sound far too many times in her life for it to be a coincidence. She jumps on the couch and has to crouch a bit to look outside the of the window, but it's unmistakable.
She feels the cushions shift beneath her and a presence beside her, it was Lucas who was the next and only other person to catch on as to what it might be. They watch in horror as a bright pair of headlights approach the house at an alarming rate, and Max knows she has no more time to gape.
"It's my brother," she chokes out. "H-He can't know I'm here, he'll kill me!"
Her wide and fearful blue eyes meet Lucas's, and he recognizes at once she worries just as much for him. Sure enough, she speaks confirming his suspicions.
"He'll kill us."
Steve's head shoots up at her words, his heart thumping. He knew exactly who her brother was, the guy who seemed a little too obsessed with "taking his title" at school. Something about him was off-putting to Steve. But what scared him was the fear in the kids' eyes and her words of course. He had no trouble believing her, and he knew with absolute certainty these kids were in danger.
His eyes flew to the door, knowing what he had to do.

Hi!! I saw your coldflash prompt request and thought I’d give it a go. (Super thrilled to see another ace girl :)) anyway: Barry is a corpse from a witch hanging that Len is supposed to dispose of. Before he can bury him, Barry wakes up and reveals that he is in fact a magician and he tricked the executioner. Then I guess Len has to go with him or turn him in?
Oh. My. God. Three years. I am the worst. Um. Here’s your story? /o\
(Also on AO3.)
~*~
Leonard hefted his shovel to his other shoulder as he walked, trying in vain to ease the chronic ache he'd gained after years of labor. He'd dreamed of getting out of Central when he was younger, but… it was what it was.
And Thawne was paying him good coin to clean up his latest witch hunt.
The makeshift gallows was easy to see even from this distance: the old oak tree stood on the gentle slope of a low hill, and there wasn't even the hint of a breeze to sway the body.
Leonard finished the climb, and he looked at the body for a minute before he turned his attention to the hard dirt beneath his feet. Whoever it was had been young. It was a goddamn tragedy. Thawne had wanted him to burn the body before burial, but Leonard wasn't too inclined to follow through. If he'd wanted the dead kid roasted, he should've done it himself. Leonard didn't particularly like the heat.
He stepped away from the tree and tested the ground with a jab of his shovel blade. It seemed as good a place as any, so Leonard set his attention entirely on digging, finding the monotony and physical activity something close to meditative. He was looking forward to the end of this distasteful business, so he could go back to town and have a drink and his dinner at the tavern.
There was a grunt behind him, the creak of the tree branch, and then a loud thud as something hit the ground.
Leonard whirled around, his shovel at the ready; his blow was strong, sure--then it hit a field of sparkling red energy and shattered into a thousand pieces, leaving Leonard holding the jagged remains of his shovel handle.
"Sorry!" The man--who only moments before hung from the tree with a broken neck and bluish skin--winced and smiled at Leonard. "I didn't want to play dead a second time. Uh... sorry for scaring you."
"What the fuck?" Leonard asked. He looked at the remains of his shovel handle and dropped it to the ground. "You owe me a shovel."
"Okay, I can tell this isn't the best introduction."
Leonard scoffed in response and folded his arms over his chest.
"Hey, let's start over. I'm Barry." Barry stuck out his hand as if Leonard would be stupid enough to shake it. Leonard stared at Barry's hand until Barry sheepishly dropped it. "I guess I'll be on my way?"
Leonard glared at Barry. Didn't want to play dead, did he? "Give me one reason why I shouldn't let everyone know you survived so they can kill you for real this time?"
Barry got his feet under him and rose slowly, raising his hands as if he could keep Leonard calm in the meantime. "Because that would be a really bad idea?"
Leonard tilted his head. "Try again."
"Okay. Okay, look. Eobard's been after me for years, okay? It's like his favorite game is taking me down. So this time I let him. I used a spell to make it look like I was dead, so he'd finally get over it. I didn't think anyone would actually come to bury me."
"So you're saying you actually are a witch."
Barry rubbed the back of his head. "I prefer magician? But I guess 'witch' works, too."
"Hm." Leonard looked around, but the darkness was quiet and peaceful. It was just the two of them. "Fine. Hit the road."
"Wha--really?" Barry blinked at Leonard, and for a second Leonard wished it wasn't so dark, just so he could see the kid better.
Leonard shrugged. "You don't worship the devil or anything, right?"
Barry rolled his eyes. "Nope."
"Then I don't give a damn." Leonard kicked at the remains of his shovel and then pushed past Barry to grab the noose and unwind the rope from the tree. "I got paid to clean up. It's what I'm going to do."
Barry was silent as Leonard finished unwinding the rope and tossed it into the shallow hole he'd dug before his tools were ruined. "Eobard's going to know you let me go."
"That's my problem to worry about, kid." Leonard looked around in a vain effort to keep himself busy. There wasn't really very much here, for a place where someone had faked their murder.
"Come with me," Barry blurted out all at once.
Leonard scrubbed his hand over his face in exasperation. "I'm a stranger," he said pointedly.
"You're a stranger who's letting me go," Barry said. "That's better than a lot of other people would do." Leonard turned to face him, and Barry shook his head. "Listen. I don't have a lot of time.." He clasped his hands together, and there was a dull glow of light that illuminated his fingers a fleshy orange. When he opened his hands, there was a small charm in the shape of a lightning bolt.
He held his hand out, and Leonard, bewildered and a little suspicious, accepted the gift.
"Think about it," Barry said. "If you change your mind, just snap that in half. I'll come back for you."
You should worry about yourself," Leonard said as he glanced down at the tiny metallic lightning bolt in his palm.
When Leonard looked back up, Barry was gone. In his place stood a brand new shovel.
Leonard laughed softly, and went about his original business, faking a grave that was no longer needed.
He wasn't naive or foolish--he knew that Thawne would be suspicious. If luck was on his side, he could resolve his affairs and maybe send a letter to Lisa. When he was ready…
Well. The kid had given him a way out. All Leonard had to do was take it.
