nice Metroid comic! i would love to see your take on Starfox.
Thanks!
Okay so while I LOVE Star Fox and would love to do something with it, (and have done things with it sort of, more on that later) I decided not to ever touch it directly. In part of course because I'm trying to slowly move away from fanfic, but mostly because I don't think I could make a 'definitive edition'.
With Metroid I had my own unique vision for the setting and the character that I'd never seen anybody else pursue in the same directions, and I personally prefer my versions above both canon and every fanon I've read. (With the possible exception of NickOnPlanetRipple, who made an EXCELLENT comic called Metroid Revival. While I personally prefer my own work, and we went in radically different directions in terms of plot/setting/tone, I respect his work a ton). If Nintendo miraculously gave me the directorial position on some Metroid property, I could accept the position knowing that I could do a darn good job, and do something with it that nobody else could.
The same cannot be said of Star Fox. While I do have ideas for the characters, spaceships, and post-war future of the story, I don't have nearly as much to add, and I could never make my favorite version of Star Fox because the beating heart of the franchise is the characters, and Matthew Gafford already did it WAY better than I ever could with them in his youtube animated series A Fox In Space. If I dabbled in Star Fox, I would just end up comparing myself to him and I know I could never top that. If Nintendo gave me any authority over Star Fox, I couldn't accept. He deserves that job. I might be able to put my own spin on some aspects, but not all of it.
HOWEVER.
One of the original novels I'm working on is actually directly inspired by Star Fox, and by some ideas me and my brothers had about what became of the team after the war concluded. None of the characters bear much resemblance to the originals (and they're not animals), but if you squint hard enough you can sometimes see who was who before I de-fanned the fiction, and I like it so far, especially the direction I took Krystal's stand-in.
In terms of what I've done with Star Fox itself, I'm afraid all I I can give you is this, which I drew like ten years ago:

Underworld Lore in my story:
What if instead of someone choosing rebirth and not getting to reunite with their loved ones after death, only their soul leaves the underworld and memories remain as a separate entity that are essentially themselves? Like, they can choose to leave their thoughts, personality, experience and consciousness formed by their old life (a person in a nutshell) behind so they still exist because when rebirth happens the soul has no need for those memories anyway so they might as well let their old selves be happy.
This can be really funny when a soul arrives in the underworld only to find a group of inhabitants who are strangely interested in the life they lived like a bunch of nosy relatives. They feel a sense of familiarity with them, then they realise who they're looking at and just laugh because it reminds them of the spiderman pointing meme.
A soul can choose whether or not to leave their old self behind, but before making that decision they will need to go talk to the World (inspired by Hades, World is just a title don't think too much about it) first. Usually these visits are short when they want to do it, while the longer discussions are for those that don't. They will talk about their reasons for not wanting to do it like if their old self will only be miserable or that they have done unforgivable things during their lifetime and are better off not existing.
To prevent rash decision making, souls are not allowed to choose rebirth if they have unresolved issues that can be reconciled. They need to work through these issues first and only then may they be reborn, basically therapy with either the World or someone else.

But there’s still unfinished business. What will they find on their first excursion together away from the relative safety of the Shore? Or who?
After the Children, follows on the action from Afterlands: After the Harrowing, After the Return, and the Betweentimes stories, which are available for free on the official website at lookingland.com/afterlands.

🍂 ~ A Daemonolatry Prayer/ Rite For Samhain ~ 🍂
Tumblr media
+ . . . Divider Credit . . . +
Tumblr media
So it's Samhain in the Southern Hemisphere (where I live lol) and I found some really neat Samhain prayers/rites on this website while I was trying to get some ideas for how I was gonna celebrate this year. Well, I thought it would be a really cool idea to make a daemonic parody of these prayers for my personal celebration of the holiday as a Daemonolatrist, as well as for others who may be interested!
I modified and added onto what was originally an invocation for Pan, as well as a bestowing of blessings upon the Dead. I decided to just turn it into a sort of prayer/rite to the daemons of death (whilst also keeping in the part of bestowing blessings onto the Dead). I also added some bits and pieces from other rites on the same webpage too. And so, I came up with; A Rite To The Mortem Daemons! 🧡
Tumblr media
~ ~ Rite To The Mortem Daemons ~
O Mortem Daemons of the Afterland, Guardians of the Beloved Dead, we pour forth love on those you keep safely within your peaceful stead.
Eurynomos, he who lays the bodies back to whence all creatures came, decomposing in the Earth where new life springs up yet again.
Bifrous, he who guards the graves and lights the path for all the dead, a shining lantern in the dark, for souls to see now what’s ahead.
Gamigin, she who carries the souls to the Afterland where they may rest, leading lost souls by the hand and freeing them from their unrest.
Murmur, they who plays sweet music for the dead to unify in song, and as the music chimes and plays, we all shall sing and dance along.
Bune, she who communes with the dead and brings them back unto the Earth, so that the dead may visit us and indulge with us in joy and mirth.
O Mortem Daemons of the Afterland, Guardians of the Beloved Dead, we vow our everlasting love forever and ever, until the end.
We bless those who have walked the path that someday, we as well, shall rove. We offer peace unto their souls while resting in your arms below.
