“This all seems very complicated, Eds.” Nancy says after the silence drags on post-Eddie’s ‘presentation’. She squints down at one of the cards, fiddling with the corner. “Really? 86 roses?” “Yeah, 86 roses. 1986, the year I fell in love with Steve – “ “Thought you’d been stuck on him since 83?” Robin taunts, grabbing at one of the gummies in Eddie’s hand. Drowning - Billy Hargrove x Reader
DOESN’T FOLLOW ANY STORYLINE
(Aka no spoilers)
WARNING: Major Character Death, Drowning, Swearing
     I had never put much thought into how I'd die. I had hoped for a peaceful death--- or at least a quick one. I never thought it'd turn out like this.
~~~~~
     "Y/N you can't possibly be thinking about wearing THAT!" Y/N smirked as her boyfriend stood in the doorway to her room, flabbergasted. She turned towards him, doing a little spin to show off her new swimsuit. It was a slim black monokini that hugged her body and extenuated her curves. Y/N had to admit, she looked pretty damn good. Billy thought so too. In fact, he thought she looked so good, he had the sudden urge to stay back from Tina's pool party and show her what he thought.
     Billy's thoughts were interrupted when Y/N turned back around to grab her towel and sandals off the bed, "Billy, I just got this! What other chance will I get to wear it?"
     He sighed and held open the door for her. She ducked under his arm, giggling as she felt his gaze follow her every move. Billy rolled his eyes and snatched his car keys off her nightstand before following her.
~~~~~
     The party was absolutely packed. Almost everybody was there. Steve... Nancy... Tommy... Carol. Even Jonathan was there! Granted, he was standing awkwardly in a corner, pretending that he wasn't staring at Nancy. Billy parked his Camaro and turned hesitantly to Y/N, "You sure you want to go? I thought you didn't even like Tina."
     Y/N scoffed, "I don't. I just want to go because I haven't been to many parties, and I think a pool party is a great place to join the fun! Also, I get to see you shirtless."
     She had rushed the last part but Billy had heard it. He grinned and pulled off his white sleeveless shirt. He flexed his muscles a couple of times, watching Y/N's reaction. Her eyes widened as she ran her eyes up and down his body. "Enjoy the view?"
     Y/N blushed and torn her eyes away from his body. 'God, I am so lucky that he is my boyfriend!'  She unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car. Billy glanced back toward the house. He could already see people checking out his girlfriend. This is gonna be a LONG day.
~~~~~
     He had been right. All-day Billy had been chasing off the jocks, geeks, freaks, and sluts who had gotten too close to Y/N. Nancy and Y/N immediately found each other and had been chatting and laughing while Steve and Billy came to a silent agreement not to fight. As much as Steve didn't like him, Billy was pretty good at intimidating the horny, drunk teens that surrounded them. Billy put up with Steve since Y/N had refused to speak to him for a week the last time he had started a fight with the guy.
     Billy had just chased off another curious teen when he felt a light tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Y/N standing behind him. "Billy, I'm going to go get some water. I'm starting to get a little bit light-headed."
     "Babe, are you alright? Do you want to go home?" Y/N shook her head, cutting off his worried rambling, "I just need something to drink. I'll be right back."
     Billy made as to come with her but she put her hand on his chest, stopping him. She smiled up at him before walking towards the porch, where a crowd of people was dancing with their plastic red solo cups.
     "Excuse me... sorry... I'm just going to sneak in between the two of you... Whoops! Sorry!" Y/N awkwardly made her way through the crowd. She ducked under arms, around legs, through groups. It was as if she was doing her own little dance through the tangle of limbs. However, her dance was interrupted by a jock who had had a little too much to drink. He bumped into her, causing her to stumble back into a cheerleader, who stepped away before she could hit her again and possibly ruin her perfect hair.
     Maybe things would have turned out differently if the cheerleader hadn't moved out of Y/N's way, or if Y/N had simply let Billy go instead. Unfortunately, Y/N decided to go by herself, and the cheerleader had stepped out of Y/N's path.
     Y/N's dizziness came back full-force and she took a couple more steps forward as the world spun around her. She closed her eyes to stop the spinning. Suddenly, she felt as if she was falling from a great height; just tumbling down and down and down and down until she hit the ground. But the ground was not real. It was not even a visible thing. It was noise. The faint sounds of water and music and screaming. Screaming about what? Y/N did not know. The only thing Y/N knew was the pain in her chest that was rapidly growing worse and worse. She felt an intense need to breathe. Her body contracted, forcing her to inhale a salty substance. Y/N snapped out of her daze as she realized what was happening. She was drowning. Her eyes flew open, lungs burning as she attempted to move. Y/N felt frozen. She tried to wave her arms and legs furiously but it was as if she had been turned into a statue. Her body forced her to breathe again, causing more water to splash into her lungs. The noises she heard felt far away now. She could distantly hear the sound of a splash. The feeling of being lifted up and out of this watery hell was all that she felt before the world went black.
~~~~~
     Billy had been listening to Nancy and Steve's conversation when he heard a loud splash followed closely by screams. His head whipped toward the pool. The crowd of people had stopped dancing and the people in the pool had moved away from something in the water. He stood and began to walk to the group of frozen teens. He tried to see what happened, but the crowd was too thick. How in the hell did Y/N get through this mess? Wait... where is Y/N?
     "Oh SHIT!" Billy began shoving his way through the crowd, trying to find his girlfriend. He spotted Jonathan (who had been standing near the pool throughout the entire party) and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, "Where is Y/N?! Have you seen her?!"
     Jonathan looked shocked for a moment before glancing at the pool. Billy's eyes flashed with horror. Y/N got dizzy often, and she had told him of the few times her dizziness led to fainting. There was one unfortunate circumstance in which she hit her head and earned a pretty nasty concussion. He should have realized the danger she was in when she told him about being light-headed. He let go of Jonathan and pushed his way to the edge of the pool, where he dove in.
     He spotted Y/N immediately. Her hair created a halo around her face that would've made Billy's jaw drop in awe under normal circumstances. He quickly swam over to her and pulled her out of the water. She was unconscious and, worse, not breathing. He laid her on her back and began running through the rescue steps that he had been taught as a lifeguard. He pinched her nose and breathed into her mouth a couple of times before starting CPR.
     Steve and Nancy saw what was going on and ran over. Steve ran to call 911 while Nancy kneeled next to Billy. He was crying. He could tell that she had been underwater for too long. Nancy began crying as she also realized the severity of the situation. Billy felt the slightest movement beneath his fingers. Y/N had moved. He gasped and kept up the CPR until Y/N began to cough and choke. Billy quickly turned her onto her side as water flooded out of her mouth. The flow of water stopped as soon as it started and Y/N's eyes fluttered open. She looked up at Billy and coughed a couple more times before gently smiling at him. She was still in a lot of pain and had a feeling things weren't over just yet, but she wanted to spend what could very well be her last moments, wisely. Y/N's mouth opened and her voice came out in merely a whisper, "B-billy?"
     Billy lifted her off the ground and cradled her head in his lap, "Yes, Y/N?"
     "Neh-next time wh-wh-we go swimming, leh-let's not hah-hah-have another near-death experi-experience," Y/N's voice shook, causing her to stutter.
     "Of course, babe." A tear fell from Billy's face, landing on Y/N's cheek, where it was washed away by one of her own tears.
     "It's ge-getting cold. Did th-the suh-suh-sun disappear or som-something?"
     Billy froze. It was hot as hell outside but Y/N's skin was growing colder and colder, "You're... It's probably just... shock."
     Even he didn't believe his own words. Y/N gazed into his eyes, as if in a daze, "Were yo-your eyes always th-this blue?"
     Billy couldn't reply. He could hear the ambulance sirens growing nearer, but he wasn't sure they'd make it in time. Y/N drew in a shaky breath and managed to speak without stumbling, "Billy you know I love you, right?"
     Another tear fell from his eyes as Billy leaned over and planted a kiss on Y/N's forehead, "I know, babe. But you're going to be fine. The ambulance is almost here."
     Y/N seemed to not hear him, "I love you more than... anything in the world... I'm so, so happy to have been your girlfriend... Please, don't... don't forget about me."
     "You're going to be fine! The police are here! Please don't leave me Y/N! I need you! I can't... I can't imagine a world without you. I don't think I'm strong enough without you..." Billy's tears ran furiously down his face. The whites of his eyes had turned a slight shade of pink from his crying, which made his irises look jade-blue. Y/N reached a trembling hand to his cheek, "I'll never be far from you. I'll be--"
     She was cut off by a sudden fit of coughing. Her calm expression was replaced with fear. Her hand slipped slightly but Billy grabbed it before it could leave his cheek. Her eyes were wide as she glanced over at Nancy, who was trying to keep the gawking crowd away. She softly called her best friend's name. Nancy heard and called Steve over to replace her as she ran back over to Y/N and Billy.
     "Nancy, you will always be my best friend... Please just take care of Billy," Y/N laughed weakly, "Knowing him, this idiot will go do something stupid and get himself killed."
     Nancy smiled as Billy feigned outrage. Droplets of water flew from Y/N's mouth as her laughter turned into coughing. She struggled to lift her head as she cried out through the coughing, "I don't wanna go... I don't wanna go, Billy, please!... I'm sorry."
     Nancy turned away as Y/N took a final, shaky breath. Her head fell back onto Billy's lap, rolling to the side. Her eyes became glassy and unseeing as they fluttered shut. Her mouth fell open slightly, more water dripping from her pale lips. Her arm became heavy in Billy's grasp. He stared at her body in shock, "Babe? Babe, wake up."
     He began shaking her shoulders, "Y/N, please wake up! Wake up! Y/N PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME! PLEASE OPEN YOUR EYES!"
     Billy realized she wasn't going to come back. He raised his head to the sky and screamed. The sky was too perfect for the oh-so-unperfect event that had taken place. It was bright blue without a cloud in sight. Billy saw this and it made him furious. He felt taunted by the appearance of the perfect day. After all, Billy's life before Y/N was shit. She helped him during tough times. She let him stay with her whenever his father was a jackass. He would turn up on her doorstep with cuts and bruises everywhere, but she wouldn't ask questions. They would cuddle on her couch and watch movies on weekends. He would give her all the attention she wanted. He wouldn't hesitate to beat up people who looked just a little too long in her direction. He would make sure everyone knew she was his, as much as it annoyed her.
She was his entire world. Nothing mattered more than her, and now she was gone.

Someday.Maybe. Chapter 6
Summary: Throw together a boy and a girl and another boy and 5 middle-schoolers, two adults, a little girl with telekinetic powers, and a monster from another dimension and you’ll get the perfectly strange story.
(AKA: I suck at writing summaries.)
Pairing: Steve Harrington X OC (fem reader) X Billy Hargrove
Words: 3k+ (this one is long soz!)
Warning: Little bit of angst, Billy’s P.O.V (so some offensive/ nasty thoughts), Strong language
A/n: This chapter is my most favourite so far. Y’all probably know by now that I am a sucker for writing about Billy and this chapter has “Billy’s Point of view” (if that isn’t an incentive then idk what is.) Also: The characters might seem a little confused, i wanted to make them a little nuanced because lets be honest none of us had our shit together as teens.
I do not own Strangers Things nor the GIF.

After that day during the summer Steve and I avoided each other like the plague. It started with Steve responding to my greetings with a smile, then a nod, then a glance and finally nothing. He was moving away from me like sand slipping through ones fingers. I began blaming myself. Had it not been for me and my smart mouth I would have still been able to be friends with Steve. But hanging out with him and seeing him look at Nancy the way I wanted him to look at me hurt me in a way I couldn’t explain. The only thing that helped me bare Nancy and Steve was the fact that she made Steve happy.
But the Steve I saw right now was anything but happy.
The boy before me was completely broken. His face was turned away from me but I could see his shoulders shake due to the sobs raking through his body. He was constantly running his fingers through his hair, something I noticed he did when he had a lot on his mind. With some courage I reached out to touch his shoulder.
“Steve.” The nervousness was evident in my voice.
On hearing my voice Steve straightened up and rubbed his nose before turning to look at me.
“(Y/n)” he cleared his throat.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
Steve startled me when he let out a laugh. However, it was not a hearty laugh but more of a melancholic sound.
“Am I okay? No. Apparently everything in my life is bullshit (y/n) so no I am not really okay.” He looked away as the tears surfaced in his eyes again.
“Steve I don’t know what has happened but it will get better.” I put my hand on his shoulder once again.
“Easy for you to say.” He shrugged off my hand.
“What do you mean Steve?” I should’ve walked away but somehow my masochistic, irrational-self did not allow me to do that.
“I don’t understand, you know, Nancy was great. Is great. Things were perfect but then she goes ahead and tells me she doesn’t love me and whatever we had was all bullshit an-
“Steve I am s-
“No (y/n) let me finish.” He raised his hand shutting up me up instantly.
“Then, that day you had to ruin things. I have never had anyone care for me like you did. I know we hadn’t been talking as much as we did earlier but whenever we hung out you always listened, you always paid attention to me and showed appreciation for everything I did and I loved it. I really like it and liked everything about you. But now I hate you because I can’t hate you and Nancy…goes and…she…
He slid down against the car and sat on the ground. I could feel my resolve crumbling as his words began seeping in. I was just as confused as Steve was but trying to make sense of his words hurt me a lot more.
As if things were not terrible enough a sudden movement startled us. Both of us turned our heads to look at Jonathan holding up a very drunk Nancy and hauling her to his car. That’s when I realised that Steve probably asked Jonathan to drive Nancy back.
Steve got up angrily as the car sped away muttering something under his breath. He pulled open the door of his own car and got in.
“Steve you shouldn’t drive. Let me dri-
“(y/n) don’t you fucking get it. I want to be alone. Leave me alone.” His voice came out louder than I had ever heard. I had never seen him this angry. I backed away as he drove away without even a glance in my direction.
I let out a shaky breath as I realised I would have to walk home alone. I wiped at the tears that involuntarily rolled down my cheeks. Wrapping my arms tightly around my torso I began the long walk home.
However, while I was busy wallowing in my misery I completely overlooked Billy Hargrove standing by the doorway looking at the whole ordeal unravelling before him.

Billy’s P.O.V:
Since the moment I stepped into Hawkins I knew life was going to suck. California was paradise. California was home. But just like every good thing in my life my home was taken away from me and instead I had now landed in a town that constantly smelled like cow shit.
I could not let anyone else walk over me or take things away from me anymore. So the day I stepped into the high school I decided to maintain a place for myself above everyone. And it was a cake walk for me. All I had to do was undo a few buttons of my shirt, flash my pearly smile and make the buffoons around me feel like they were my friends. Slowly everyone started flocking around me. I even managed to dethrone the ‘reigning king of Hawkins’ Steve Harrington.
Still the lack of difficulty was making life boring. I needed a challenge, which seemed difficult considering the fact that every female (both young and old) was throwing herself at me, shamelessly. The only two people who seemed to flock away from the herd were Harrington’s girlfriend and (y/n). Harrington’s girl was never on my radar. As much of an asshole as I was I would never pin for someone who was taken, let alone Nancy Wheeler, the poster girl for preppy.
(Y/n) on the other hand caught my attention immediately. From the Intel I had received from Tommy about the status quo in Hawkins, (y/n) was initially great friends with Steve but her reputation had spiraled down after she started hanging out with the Byers kid, who was far out of the social ladder.
I admit it, I thought she was cute from the first day and as infuriating as her dismissive attitude was, it was also kind of a turn on. The way she squirmed when I’d make a slightly crude comment or how her face heated up when she bit back at me, amused me and made me feel a twitch in my jeans all at the same time. But I wasn’t going to admit that I was infatuated by her, precisely because of her ‘social ranking’. If I had to keep my newly-earned crown I had to follow the status-quo.
But that didn’t keep me from “giving her a hard time” as I made Tommy and Carol believe. In reality I wanted to crack her and see where I could take things with her. Jeez! Get a grip, man!
So unbeknownst to Tommy and Carol I invited her to Tina’s Halloween Party.
Now Halloween parties in California meant hot chicks and binge drinking and sometimes if we’d be lucky one of the rich kids would throw a party and invite the whole school. As much as I hated their snooty, snobbish behavior the rich kids always had good booze. Parties in Cali were totally raging.
The Halloween party in Hawkins however was just as terrible as the people here. The girls dressed like they were competing for the crown of “Prude of the year” and the drinks all tasted like girly, fruity drinks or piss. But I’d rather be at this sorry excuse of a party than home listening to Susan reminiscing about Halloween as a child, all the while resisting the urge to not roll my eyes.
The party was still boring and Duran Duran was still blaring through the record player. But the boring party soon became a lot better as my eyes fell on the Keg stand. Fucking finally, something good was happening in Hawkins.
“Hargrove wanna give it a shot?” Tommy asked noticing my excitement.
“Shot? I am about to make a record. I’ll show y’all Hawkins idiots how to party.” I bellowed.
“Well you’re gonna have to break Steve’s record. He is the Keg King. Just last year he managed to do a st-
I completely blocked him out the moment he said “break Steve’s record”. Steve Harrington was everything I hated. He was rich, and almost too nice. And I knew there was no chance there would be another king in my presence.
I didn’t have to say anything to anyone. The moment I moved towards the stand everybody parted to make way for me. And just like that in no time I had smashed ‘Keg King Steve’s’ record. Another easy task.
With the energy pulsing through me I grabbed the cigarette from Tommy’s fingers and took a long drag. “That’s how you do it in Hawkins.” I screamed. The people in Hawkins would now understand what a real party is.
Everybody huddled around me and began patting my back as Tommy declared I was the new ‘Keg King’. Girls began eyeing me as the remnants of beer began trickled down my shirtless torso. I mean I wouldn’t really blame them.
“We have ourselves a new keg king.” Tommy announced once more as we entered the house. Once we walked in my eyes fell on the one and only Steve Harrington who suddenly stopped dancing as he heard Tommy’s declaration.
“He broke your record. He is the new keg king Harrington.” If Steve was not alert before he was now. He came to a complete halt and took off his glasses eyeing both Tommy and I. His girlfriend, who was annoyingly attached to his hip like always, looked at the both of us and walked away rolling her eyes. Before I could say anything to Harrington he had followed his girlfriend towards the kitchen like a lost boy.
“He is so whipped. What a pussy.” Tommy chuckled.
However, instead of agreeing with Tommy and making things worse of Harrington, I halted as my eyes caught the sight of the one person who I was looking forward to see but didn’t expect would show up. (Y/n)
“Yo check it out, Miss Goody two shoes coming over.” Tommy who seemed to follow my line of vision, hollered. I wanted to talk to her so bad. But the thought sounded ridiculous and if Tommy found out I was thinking in such a way the results would be much worse.
So when Tommy menacingly whispered, “looks like goody two shoes needs to loosen up.” I smirked and agreed.
Following my command Tommy walked in front of her blocking her from entering another room, while I stealthily I walked behind her to block her from turning and leaving. When she saw Tommy she halted, I leaned down and whispered lowly in her ear, “Hey, Doll face.”
The first time I called her that in front of Tommy and Carol they pulled a face and asked me why I called her that, since then I kept telling them and anyone who asked “I love how worked up she gets every time I call her that.” But in reality she kinda looked like one of those dolls that little shitheads play with. What the fuck Hargrove! Focus!
“Billy have you heard of this thing called personal space or did you skip the class where they taught that too?” she turned to look at me. The moment she said my name I could feel all the blood rush down to my crotch. The thought of my name leaving her lips as I bent her over every fucking surface ran through my mind. Hey I am a man after all, cut me some slack!
“Wow doll face, my name sounds sexier when you say it.” I mean it was the truth.
“What do you want Hargrove?” She huffed.
“Why don’t we grab a beer, go upstairs and have a chat about what I want?” I licked my lips gaining hoots from Tommy and his friends. Maybe it was some hormones shit or alcohol or both but all I wanted was to take her upstairs and show her a good time without caring about what anyone else thought.
“Why don’t you go bother someone who actually cares?” the previous hoots by Tommy and and cronies turned into snickers. I clenched my jaw partially out of anger at Tommy and his friends and partially because her dismissive attitude pushed me to try harder. But my reputation was more important to me. I didn’t want to be like Steve Harrington running behind some girl when she didn’t show any interest. I needed a push to get away from this girl in front of me.
So without a thought I grabbed the cup out of Carol’s hand and downed the drink. With the disgusting drink giving me the final push I announced, “Let’s get out of here.” Giving (y/n) one final look I walked towards the backyard.
 At around midnight people began trickling out. Tina, had already passed out on the couch and so had half the people. The rest were dancing to some bubble-gum pop bullshit that was being played on loop. I for one lost all the interest after my encounter with (y/n). Did I love a challenge when it came to girls? Of course. But I hated when they got the last word in. And what’s worse was Tommy had actually gotten a hint about how I felt towards (y/n).
Ignoring his inquisitive behaviour I finally decided to drive back home. After years of partying I had learned to handle my alcohol enough to stay in my senses.
I lit up a cigarette and blew out the smoke as I trudged in the direction of my car. As I was descending down the final flight of stairs my eyes fell on two familiar figures. Steve Harrington and (y/n). Before I could go and intervene I saw Harrington furiously get into his car leaving a distraught (y/n) behind. She wiped her eyes and wrapped her arms around herself.
Maybe it was the fact that I was finally alone or whatever, I wanted to help her. So I got into my car and slowly started trailing (y/n) in the hopes of not startling her. But I was wrong. The headlights and soft rumble of the car made her stop dead in her tracks.
“What do you want Hargrove?” I raised my eyebrows in surprise. She knew it was me without even looking back. Cute.
“A lot of things actually, a new car, some cash, a one way ticket out of this shit hole.” I chuckled as I got out of the car and approached her.
She still refused to look at me. I continued anyway.
“But right now doll face, I’d like for you to get away from this cold and in my car.” I crossed my arms in front of my chest.
“I wouldn’t get in your car even if my life depended on it.” She huffed and turned to face me. Her hair was a little messed due to the wind. Her red rimmed, puffy eyes stared into mine and without even thinking I reached out to cup her tear stained cheeks.
“What happened?” I bent down at eye level with her.
“Huh! As if you care.” She swatted away my hand and began walking in the opposite direction.
Before I could follow her she suddenly turned around and looked at me.
“If I get in your car right now will you stop annoying me henceforth?” She ran her fingers through her hair.
“You got it Doll-face.” I gave her a lopsided grin and opened the door to the passenger seat for her. Pouting a little she complied and got in the car.
Following suite, I got in the car and turned the ignition on and then turned the heat to its fullest. A small sigh of relief left (Y/n)’s lips but she was still shivering and rubbing her hands up and down her arms.
“There’s…uh…a jacket in the back seat if you can just…
Eyeing me a little she reached out and grabbed my denim jacket that was lying on the back seat.
“Why are you being so nice?” (y/n) cut through the silence.
“I don’t know.” And I honestly didn’t. I was Billy Hargrove resident asshole (I’ve heard worse). This was certainly not how I treated anyone in this town.
But there was something about (y/n). Yes it was cliché but with (y/n) I didn’t have to live up to a reputation. She seemed completely indifferent towards me. She wasn’t impressed by the bad boy act so I thought maybe she would appreciate me being…nice. Damn! Hargrove stop turning into a softie. You’re behaving like a wimp.
“It’s because your friends aren’t around, right?” She murmured.
Startled, I looked at her for a second, “(y/n) it’s…I can’t-
“It’s okay Billy! I am used to people turning to me whenever they feel its right.” She sighed and pulled the jacket off. It was hard to focus on the directions she gave me after hearing the sad tone of her voice. When I pulled over in front of her house, she folded the jacket and handed it to me, “Thanks Hargrove.” She smiled.
“Give it to me tomorrow.” I winked at her.
She shook her head and put it on my lap, “Don’t want your friends to get the wrong idea.” She gave me a sad smile. I was surprised at how well she could read me and for a moment I sat there; dumbfounded. Maybe she really was nice and it wasn’t an act. Maybe there was one beacon of hope in this shitty town and I was being an asshole unnecessarily. Suddenly recovering from the epiphany I turned to pull the passenger door shut that she had opened. I ended up trapping her body against the seat in the process.
“For the record I do care.” She furrowed her brows but suddenly nodded as if remembering what she had said earlier.
“Sure. Goodnight Billy.” My name softly rolled off her tongue in a whisper. She held her gaze with me as if expecting me to say something. Honestly in that moment I just wanted to apologize to her for being a dick and feel her lips against mine.
“Good Night (y/n)” She raised her eyebrows in surprise as she heard me say her name, probably for the first time. Without saying much she slowly got out of the car and walked towards her house.
As she walked into the house I grabbed the jacket that she had left, her scent faintly lingered on the fabric. This definitely wasn’t infatuation anymore. That’s when I knew, I was a dead man!

Carrie 1974
So I kinda challenged myself to read every Stephen King book in chronological order because I’m a nerd and I love his books, but I would like to keep some sort of tally to motivate me,currently I’m on book 5 (“the Dead Zone”) but yeah I’ll talk about Carrie. What’s the story about? A 16 year old girl with a religiously fanatic mother who is bullied at school discovers her telekinetic powers after her frist period and an awfull prank they throw at her in prom ends up in tragedy.
Thoughts: I really liked it, male authors so rarely talk about periods because a lot of men seem afraid of it (King even adresses that in the book) and he doesn’t only speak about it he makes it the catalysist for the whole plot, he even writes into the book that the hormonal change was what activated her powers in the frist place. Actually I really loved that he explains her powers as a genetic mutation passed through her mother, actually the book says only woman present the dominant gen, and really those tid-bits of books studying the Carrie White phenomenon (there’s even a Carrie White foundation!!!) give the book a nice depth and an outsiders pov to the event. One of the things I love the most was that King reminds the reader over and over again that despite their actions the characters (most of them) are teenagers, which doesn’t mean to excuse their actions (Chris Hargensen is a total bitch) but it helps to avoid demonizing them, we get a great insight about this on Susan Snell’s book (I am Sue Snell) which it’s quoted in the book quite often. Movie/TV adaptations There are 4 movie adaptations of this book: Carrie from 1976, Carrie from 2002, The Rage (Carrie 2, which is more of a spin-off actually) from 1999 and Carrie from 2013.
So actually I watched the 1976 movie before reading this book like eight years ago, making this the second time I read, it so Yay!
I’ve watched the four movies and all have their strong and los points, the one I kind of didn’t like that much was the Rage because it really didn’t had anything to do with the books except from some characters but yeah, still a pretty entrataining movie if y'all wanna check it out.
Favorite Carrie White: Sissy Spacek from 1976, I loved her acting, she really does a nice job in making Carrie a complex girl being shy, scared and confused at the beginning of the movie without over doing it which in my humble opinion it’s what Ángela Bettis did on 2002 and while Chloë Grace Moretz gave an intresting interpratation for me she fell a bit short and in the prom she kinda went over the top for my taste. Also I think it would be real cool to have a Carrie with the body type she has in the book ( a thick waist) it’s 2017 c'mon it’s time to have chubby girls be the protagonist.
Favorite Margaret White: Julianne Moore from 2013, her performace was astounding since the beginning of the film when she gives birth to Carrie, her intense religious moments, the punishments to Carrie even the self-harm was amazingly acted.
Favorite Rita Desjardin: Rena Sofer from 2002, her locker scene was fantastic, and I kinda liked that she survived in this movie.
Favorite Sue Snell: Kandyse McClure from 2002, frist I loved the fact that a woman of color played such a great role ( diversity matters, and also wtf 2013 version?? 0% diversity) and her delivery was A+, I LOVED the scene at the police station where she compares the feelings she gets from “The Last Dinner” and “Dogs Playing Poker” and that in this version they played her conexion with Carrie in a very neat way.
Favorite Chris Hargensen: Nancy Allen, I loved to hate her, she embodies all the mean girls, hats off for her, her defiance to Miss Desjardin it’s my favourite by far and that sexy 70’s look.
Favorite Billy Nollan: John Travolta, I mean he is by far the most calm version but I liked the subtelty, also the chemistry between him and Nancy Allen was great and well he was bloody hot??? And he looks like the book describes, I just can’t see any other actor as Billy.
Favorite Tommy Ross: This one it’s a tough one because I Love Tommy Ross a lot, he is my boy and every actor who played him was so different but so charming in it’s own way, but I’m going for William Katt from 1976, he is charming also the ‘maybe because you liked my poem’ melts me every damn time, or his boyish smile and curly hair, his outrage when they pour the blood on Carrie it’s the best even if we can’t hear what he says (shout out to Ansel Elgort’s performance in this scene) the only thing I’m salty about it’s the fact that none of the movies includes his best line (aka my favorite quote) which I’ll write in the quotes section.
Favorite Principal: Laurie Murdoch from 2002, he was as badass as in the book standing up against Mr. Hargensen, I was dissaponted in the 2013 version btw the principal couldn’t even say menstruation/period and let Miss Desjardin take his role in the scene.
Favorite Quotes:
“High school isn’t a very importante place. When you’re going you think it’s a big deal, but when it’s over nobody really thinks it was great unless they’re beered up” (this is the Tommy Ross quote btw)
“People don’t get better, they just get smarter. When you get smarter you don’t stop pulling the wings off flies, you just think of better reasons for doing it”
“But sorry it’s the Kool-Aid of human emotions. It’s what you say when you spill a cup of coffee or throw a gutter ball when you’re bowling with the girls in the league. True sorrow is as rare as true love”
“Jesus watched from the wall, But his face it’s cold as stone, And if he loves me As she tells me Why do I feel so all alone?”
“They were still beautiful and there was still enchanment and wonder,but she had crossed a line and now the fairytale was green with corruption and evil”
“The low bird it’s not picked tenderly out of the dust by it’s fellows; rather, it is dispatched quickly and without mercy”
“Whenever anything happens in America, they have to gold-plate it, like baby shoes. That way you can forget it”
“They are surprised that he did it, though, which shows you that the male mind expects very little in the way of altruism from it’s fellows”
“Thomas Ross appears to have been something of a rarity: a socially conscious young man” (yes I’m a Tommy Ross stan so you know)
This is it, expect more posts like this one.

Dear Festividder
I love pretty much all aspects of all the fandoms I’ve requested, so I’m sure I’ll be thrilled with whatever you come up with, but here’s some stuff to help if you want a little bit more to go on!
Music:
Really, the most important thing is that the song is the right one for the vid - I have pretty broad musical tastes and there’s not a lot I don’t like, although I’m less keen on the more electronic/dubstep-y side of dance music. I really like folk music, rock, pop, 80s power ballads, female singer-songwriters with their own instruments, some country, musical theatre soundtracks… artists I like include Dar Williams, Vienna Teng, Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, Janelle Monae, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Bonnie Langford, Foxes, CHVRCHES, The Burns Unit, Clannad, Cyndi Lauper, Dolly Parton, Florence + the Machine, Lorde, Karine Polwart, Jim Moray, Toyah, Kate Rusby, Nancy Kerr, Fleetwood Mac, Patrick Wolf, Tracy Chapman, Brandi Carlile,  Missy Higgins, Ella Fitzgerald - but honestly I’ll listen to almost anything and if it works for the vid that’ll make me love the song anyway! (And uhh... I know it’s deeply unlikely but I would very much appreciate if you did not use a Ronan Keating song.)
General:
This’ll probably become rapidly obvious with my individual requests, but I love vids about women! Character studies, friendship vids, vids about communities and teams, cute vids, sad vids, silly vids, dancey vids, people kicking ass vids… Mainly though I just want to feel emotions about the thing in handy-dandy vid form.
As to the individual fandoms:
Home Fires (UK TV) (12 x 45 min episodes)
I love this series! I love the stories it tells about women working together and supporting each other, I love the dramatic jam-making montages and the moments of unexpected connection. I love Steph, Pat, Joyce and Teresa, and I especially love Frances and her relationship with Sarah, but I’d honestly be thrilled with anything about any character or the community overall.
Jam and Jerusalem (aka Clatterford) (19 x 30-min episodes)
This is one of my favourite shows of all time. I’d love anything about the whole community or anything about any one of the women or any individual relationship or group of relationships, you really can’t go wrong. A few favourites are Sal/Tip (friendship or shippy), Caroline/Suzie, Eileen and her Guild… Sal, Tip and Yasmeen are my favourite characters but only by a hair!
One Day at a Time (TV 2017) (39 x 30-min episodes)
This series is so full of love and so heartwarming and good, and I’d love absolutely anything about it! If you’re looking for ideas though, maybe something about how the three generations of women connect, a lighthearted/comedy vid about everybody, or a character study of Penelope.
Steerswoman Series - Rosemary Kirstein (Novels)
I absolutely adore these books! I know it’s unlikely anyone will attempt this so if you do I’d honestly be thrilled with anything! But my favourite elements of the books are Rowan and Bel’s friendship, the community of steerswomen, the travel/quest elements and the worldbuilding.
Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? (40 x 20-min episodes)
I recently fell in love with this all over again after watching it a lot as a kid. Carmen is my fave! I’d love a vid about her escaping from Ivy and Zack in improbable ways, or about the weird slightly mentory relationship she has with Ivy in particular, or just about what a badass genius thief she is!
The Worst Witch (2017) (26 x 30-min episodes)
I got a terrific vid for this last year but this is my primary fandom at the moment and my thirst for it CANNOT BE SLAKED*. The vid I received last year was about Miss Hardbroom, so I’d prefer her not to be the main focus of a vid this year, but she is my FAVE so it’s still great if she’s in the mix. In terms of what I WOULD like, I’d love anything about the school as a community and the different generations of witches and how they interact. I’d also love to see a character study for Ada (I have a lot of feelings about her complex, difficult relationships with her sister and her mother and her legacy and her school. I also ship her with Hecate if you happen to feel like working that in), Dimity (I love how she balances being the “cool teacher” who relates well to the kids with always stepping up in a crisis), or Miss Mould (I don’t know if it’s possible to make a vid about her given how comparatively little screen time she had, but if it is I’d love to see it. The show hints at her perspective and motivations but we don’t really get to explore them). Ooh, or a vid about the Hallow sisters.
* That said I’m equally excited about all of these fandoms, so no worries if we matched on something else! (And sorry this section is longer, my thoughts here are just a bit more specific!)
Xanadu (1980) (Movie, safety fandom)
I LOVE this ridiculous film with deep sincerity but part of that love is recognising that it’s super mockable, so don’t worry if you’re working from a more tongue-in-cheek angle. I’d love to see anything that showcases the absurdity of the plot, the glitzy delight of the musical numbers, the fabulous late 70s/early 80s-ness of the setting, the dancing, the characters, the sheer OTT-ness of the entire production...

april 2017
This is the first April in five years that I have not been studying for final exams and feverishly reading the textbooks I neglected during the semester. Instead, I’ve been spending my days at work, commuting three hours to/from work, and watching Mad Man with my parents. It’s a wild life, y’all.
- the television -
Speaking of Mad Men, my parents and I wrapped up the series this month with seasons five, six and seven. It’s clearly very well made, and the acting is impressive, but I’m not sure I liked it? My only real opinions about the show are a) Jon Hamm is a fox, and b) Peggy Olson is the best.
In April, I also continued my re-watch of Grey’s Anatomy with seasons three, four, five and six. Predictably, I got sucked back into the Grey’s universe and fell behind on nearly all currently airing shows in favour of binging it. I’ve watched the first five seasons of this show so many times since I first started watching in middle school, and every time I do, I find more and more plots that irritate me. George and Izzie getting together is even worse than I remembered. Izzie having sex with Denny’s ghost? Erica Hahn’s entire presence? Boo, BOOOOOO. In season five, two new characters are introduced - Owen Hunt and Arizona Robbins. Both are characters that I loved (at first) and then grew to absolutely despise in later seasons. (I loved Hunt so much when he was just a great doctor and sweet guy struggling with PTSD, but now I could write an entire dissertation on why he is garbage). But the character development of Meredith Grey and Alex Karev through these first six seasons is so well done and incredibly important to me, and they are the only reason that I am still watching this show thirteen seasons later.
I also spent an intense weekend binge watching 13 Reasons Why this month. The novel, by Jay Asher, was really important to me in high school - I read it a dozen times and did my entire grade 9 English final project on it. I do feel that the adaptation elevated the material, but there were changes made that felt unnecessary and gratuitous and as an adult, I am more aware of how the entire story could be harmful to those struggling with suicide ideation. This piece, by Ijeoma Oluo, does a great job of exploring this.
- the books -
I fell into a bit of a reading slump this month. I’m still eight books ahead of schedule on my reading challenge (TAKE THAT, GOODREADS) but I only finished three in April. The first was Marlena by Julie Buntin. I preordered this novel back in 2016 and had been anticipating its release for months, so I was extremely excited to dive in. It did not disappoint! But, after I was done, I had trouble sinking into another novel. I started and promptly gave up on four different books before finally settling on Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Reid’s novels are all contemporary romances, and nice, easy reads that you can mainline in an afternoon. I appreciate the existence of these kinds of novels but I have come to the conclusion that I do not like her writing, and this one was particularly bad. Her dialogue is unrealistic and her characters are not at all well-rounded. The main character, Hannah Martin, is obsessed with cinnamon buns and wearing her hair in a high bun, and Reid apparently thought these facts were enough to form a personality because she mentioned them approximately 347 times throughout the book. 0/10 do not recommend.
Tumblr media
The last book I read this month was Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Mejia. This novel is a murder mystery, told from three perspectives in two timelines - one, before the murder and one after. It started out fairly strong, but I lost interest about halfway through and found myself skim reading the last 100 pages because, while I didn’t care about any of the characters, I wanted to know who the murderer was. It wasn’t a great conclusion - there were three different “twists” in the wrap-up and final one was just a little tooooo convenient.
- the podcasts -
Podcasts, podcasts, podcasts!
My job is extremely dull, so I’ve been keeping myself entertained for eight hours a day with a ton of podcasts. This month, I got into The Hilarious World of Depression, Heavyweight, Someone Knows Something, Nancy and 2 Dope Queens. If you’re looking for true crime, try Someone Knows Something. If you like frank, compassionate conversations about mental health, listen to The Hilarious World of Depression. If you like This American Life-esque human stories, Heavyweight is for you. If you’re looking for a podcast about the LGBTQ+ experience from two queer, people of colour, try Nancy. (Actually, you know what, literally everyone should listen to Nancy - it’s wonderful). If you like to laugh, listen to 2 Dope Queens. (I’ve been muffling laughter at my desk every day listening to Phoebe Robinson, Jessica Williams and their stand-up comic guests. Start with ‘#25 A Jon Hamm Sandwich’, it made me cry-laugh).
If you have any recommendations for me, hit me up here or on Twitter! I’m always looking for new podcasts!
- miscellaneous -
In April, I saw City & Colour live in concert for the fourth time. The shows are always amazing, but this one was truly special - two hours of just Dallas Green with a guitar surrounded by twinkly lights (aka. what I imagine heaven to be).
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra launched a Harry Potter Film Concert series July 2016 with the Philosopher’s Stone, and this month, they returned with Chamber of Secrets. In this series, the orchestra performs the soundtrack (composed by John Williams) while the film plays on a large screen above the stage. It was an incredibly cool experience. My friend and I went dressed in our house colours (Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, respectively) and the audience was filled with cosplayers and people decked head-to-toe in Hogwarts merch. At the start of the show, the conductor encouraged us to clap and cheer for our favourite moments and characters, to laugh and boo and interact with the material. I’ve already bought tickets for Prisoner of Azkaban, which will run this July.
My parents hold season tickets at a local theatre, so every month they see a different play from the season roster. This month, my dad had a conflict, so I went with my mom to see The Out Vigil, a play written by Julie McIsaac and set in present-day Newfoundland. The cast is made up of only five people - three actors and two musicians - but they have an enormous presence. Act One is rather slow, but Act Two is incredibly compelling and the play features such rich relationships and an interesting magical realism element. Support local theatre!
This month, I also went to see Beauty & the Beast. It is my favourite Disney movie off all time, but the live action version lacked so much of the charm of the animated film.
I haven’t been listening to much music lately. Music gives my brain too much time to wander, so I’ve been distracting it with podcasts and audiobooks. But, two songs did get stuck in my head this month. Harry Styles’ first solo single, ‘Sign of the Times’, was released on April 7th. It’s all glam rock and falsetto and drama. It’s long, running nearly six minutes, and slow, but I love it because I love him and I cannot wait until his full album is released (May 12th! Pre-order it!). Lorde’s new single ‘Green Light’ is the other song that has been playing in my head on a loop. It is an extremely good song to listen to while stuck in traffic on a sunny day with your windows and sunroof open.
