i have no idea what i did to earn ur love but i am grateful each and every day. though we mightn't write together but once every seventh fortnight, u are always so supportive of me, it hurts?? i remember FREEZING when u returned my follow the first time, because i thought u were the finest nancy blog i'd ever seen and was blown away that u would take a chance on some little indie oc blog that was so unknown (and still is). i remember having to read the notif over a few times to make sure it was real! i am but a little song and dance man, sticking out my leg with a cry of "ha-cha-cha-cha!"

i think, for someone who is uncreative and uncaring, there's a ceiling on how funny they can be, because to be funny, you have to be open to people and experiences. so, if u find me funny, that may be the most important thing of all.

I think every fic writer goes OOC to some extent for the sake of the stories we have in our brains, and because everyone perceives characters a little differently, ie me seeing Eddie as a virgin in the show based on a variety of factors, and Steve as only having actually had sex with Nancy and only getting as far as making out with other girls before her but using the 'slutty' girls to build his reputation (bc why else would he have such a problem getting dates after high school if he'd had such game in high school?). But there are limits to believability for me. Like how I don't see Eddie ever doing heroin by any method no matter what, and how I don't believe Billy would ever be a grapist as some fics I've come across have him portrayed nor that he wasn't without positive motives in what he did like trying to protect Max and Lucas from his father's wrath the best he knew how even if he went about it in an unhealthy way.

Tagging it as Special K would definitely help, imo. I can't be the only one who mentally rebels against the idea of Eddie doing anything harder than that, by injection or otherwise.

You're very welcome! I was trying to not come off like a bitch or psycho, or like I'm trying to tell you what you can and can't do in *your* fic. But I also know I'd want to know if something I wrote sat wrong with anyone. <3 ilu

“You okay?” Nancy asks softly. It’s followed by the sound of crinkling fabric where she’s probably sat down on the bed next to where Marjan is still pathetically considering clinging to the sleeping charade.

“Yeah, peachy,” Marjan grumbles after a few seconds of silence, eyes still closed when she continues, “why do you ask?”

Nancy snorts, “Oh, I dunno… Maybe because it’s nine in the morning and I’ve never seen you nap before?”

Marjan cracks an eye open and gives her a halfhearted glare in the dim of the bunk room.

Stranger THINGS 4 PART 2 SPOILER WARING !!

Okay I have a few observations and a major complaint but overall I really LOVED this season.

1. How are they going to do a time jump with that ending? The upside down is in Hawkins. So how? Also there wasn’t any scene where Noah had a reason to be in a harness. So did they film extra stuff and will have it in Season 5 before a time jump like a tiny prologue or something?

2. The girl that Robin likes having a boyfriend and then we feel bad for Robin and then at the end the girl is acting suspiciously like she has the hots for Robin and the boyfriend is gone. Thus potentially introducing a bisexual character, and maybe just maybe hinting what is going to happen with Byler.

3. Jonathan and Nancy were very awkward with each other when they were reunited and Jonathan lied about the college letter. I don’t think they will make it through season 5. I think she will end up with Steve again ( and please don’t fling hate at me but I kind of want her with Steve )

4. Eddie :( I cried.

5. Max and Lucas scene before El saved Max I was sobbing like a little girl.

6. ThE HEARTBREAK of Will lying to Mike about how El commissioned the painting and then turning around and crying. Noah acting was brilliant and you did see a look of confusion cross Mike’s face briefly. I think this will be brought up in the future / season 5. Remember El’s letter stated that Will was painting a lot, and wouldn’t let her see it, that she thought he liked someone , and was thought he was making the painting for a girl. This implies that she did not know what the painting was and so Mike will eventually realize that the painting wasn’t a ‘gift’ from El that she had Will paint. Mike’s clueless but he isn’t dumb. So I’m not counting Byler out for season 5 just yet. I also wanted to point out that this scene was beautiful and it just show how selfless of a character Will is. He legit is putting his own feelings aside because he wants both Mike and El to be happy. We also know from Noah that Will is in love with Mike and Wants to be with him ,and yet he isn’ t acting on these feelings . He doing everything in his power to encourage Mike to fix things with El.

5. Mike’s adoration of El keeps being superficial. His whole reasoning for fearing she won’t need him is because she is super hero, and that he loves her so much because she is aSUPER HERO its just so frustrating to watch. I feel like the characters are just stuck in their season 3 storylines. I feel so bad for El because she Deserves to be with someone who loves NOT cause she is a super hero. I Feel bad for Mike because he obviously is hung up on the super hero thing for a reason. I feel horrible for Will. If they don’t intend to make Byler canon why make will fall in love with Mike? Why was Mike being so weird towards Will. What was with the awkward hug, the ‘ tense emotional music’ scenes. Why does he keep looking over at Will? It just doesn’t add up unless there is something more. I m even more convinced cause of the ILU scene.

SO THIS BRINGS ME TO MY ONLY COMPLAINT

So before I bring shipping into it I wanted to say that I HATED this not just cause of Byler but because it cheapened what could have been a beautiful moment between El and Max. El’s platonic love for Max should have been what gave her the strength to save Max ( which she wasn’t even able to do cause Max still died! It wasn’t till later that El could save her!!)

I know what they were trying to do there with that cheesy cliched I love you, and yeah El is strong enough to resist Vecna cause of the power of love but it just cheapened the whole scene.

If they wanted to do a cheesy cliched ‘love’ saves the day moment then why wouldn’t they just have it be something to do with Max and El. Why couldn’t they have given us a new ‘memory’ where El thinks of Max of a sister or something. It just felt cheap and tried to make something that should been about friendship into romance.

Now onto my rant about this moment from the byler/milkvan pov. That forced crappy very unromantic stupid lame hetro forced crap that was the Milkvan ILU. It wasn’t’ that great of a speech, it was not Finn’s most brilliant performance. Mike couldn’t even say it on his own, Will encouraged him to do so. (Which really can we stop torturing Will) Then when Mike does say it what does he tack onto it? “ you can do anything your a super hero”. The whole speech was about her being a super hero and How he wasn’t good enough BECAUSE she was a super hero. Ummm 🤔 sorry Mike but that isn’t love that is hero worship. Then you have that scene in the car where Mike is staring at Will intently afterwards you see El looking at Mike looking at Will.

So is this suppose to hint that byler is still a possibility and El will clue into it? As much as I want byler to be end game it feels like they are just queerbaiting us on Mike’ side. Like if they intend to put them together next season like we all think they do , THEY NEED TO MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS ON MIKE’S SIDE. Will deserves more then being in love with a ‘straight’ boy.

They could have added to the couch scene . Had Mike grab his hand or something instead of his shoulder. Like they could have given us a bit more cookie crumbs.

Here is a (bad) menu for s5. You HAVE to pick 3 things. Choose wisely.

1. Will just... doesn't have powers. We keep waiting episode after episode and it never happens. He's just a normal boy. Who stayed alive in the UD. And had some residual True Sight from that, but nothing more.

2. Mike and El don't break up until ep 7. Byler endgame, but it's weird and rushed.

3. Byler endgame but they don't even kiss??

4. The season is great, beautiful, showstopping, El's arc is super emotional, Will confronts Lonnie and the Mind Flayer, everything is 10/10 BUT no Byler, hardly even any crumbs.

5. They save Max but then Lucas dies fr.

6. El dies in some kind of "full circle" nonsense.

7. Byler is endgame but there's like....... too many parallels between their relationship and Mike and El's and it's really weird. Like Will asks for Mike to say ilu and Mike tries singing but is shut down. They kiss but like one of them pushes the others hand away. Real uncomfy.

8. Dustin splits from the friend permanently in a weird call back to their friend tension from s3 with some horrible message about friends growing apart and accepting change.

9. The show takes on a really grimdark tone with an apocalyptic setting that feels too much like The Walking Dead. All humor and lightheartedness from previous seasons is totally gone.

10. Steve and Nancy endgame.

One reason I love science fiction and fantasy is that these genres are able to explore complex real world issues and political dynamics through the fictional worlds and cultures in these books/shows.  For example, Battlestar Galactica examined the morality of suicide bombers when the good guys became insurgents and resistance fighters against the occupation by the Cylons on New Caprica.

The Expanse similarly does a fantastic job, IMO, exploring themes of class/cultural differences, oppression, the divide between first world and third world countries, capitalistic greed, colonialism, imperialism - and how it’s always the little guy who gets fucked over when the big powers go to war with each other.

My sympathies are with the Belters. I can understand why Naomi is angry/not friendly when she talks with Avasarala or even Elvi in season 4. On the other hand, she has a nuanced relationship with Lucia, helping her to come to terms with what she did. Female friendships? Noami has them with Drummer, Lucia and even Felcia the budding young engineer as they work together to save the Barb.

The belters are similar to the third world countries in the real world. Having to kowtow to what western powers dictate they should or should not do in order to have some semblance of power - it’s a delicate balance as we see with Drummer and Ashford at Medina station. The smallest mistake or difference of opinion and their power can be easily taken away. It’s not real power. It’s an illusion of power and Drummer is starting to see that.

Belter refugees are given less preference to settle in the new worlds and shot at by UNN ships patrolling the ring space as opposed to colony ships. As Nancy Gao tells Avasarala, the only reason there were no riots on earth when UNN ships fired on Ganymede ships, was because it was belters on those ships. And no one cares if belters die. The lives of inners are more important.  Avasarala does not care about belters - Earth comes first. Hell, we were first introduced to Avasarala while she was torturing a belter prisoner with gravity and it was frigging Errinwright who put a stop that!

Seeing Murtry and his band of trigger happy entitled assholes order around the belter refugees with their guns makes what Lucia and her friends did understandable. It does not justify it, but it shows us why the oppressed are angry and sometimes fight back in violent ways. One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.

Marco is a horrible man, but he’s right about how things are between Earth, Mars and the Belt. And that’s why he has so many followers and people who do his bidding. And that’s why Drummer made a HUGE mistake in granting him life.

As Miller explained when he shot Dresden dead -  “I didn’t kill him because he was crazy; I killed him because he was making sense”.  And Marco was making a whole lot of sense and that is why he is dangerous - a charming, charismatic belter who is able to convince other belters that his path is the right path.

I loved Ashford this season. Simply because David Strathairn is an amazing actor and tells us so much with just his eyes. We can see that he does agree with the gist of what Marco and the other belters attacking UNN ships are telling him - but things have changed and Belters have no power to fight back and the peaceful OPA factions have started to become defunct. It will be interesting to see how Fred Johnson, Anderson Dawes and mainly Drummer address Marco and the Free Navy next season.

Bobbie’s story line was also interesting in terms of how Martian society changed to ‘every man for himself’ from their fiercely nationalistic fervor once the ring gates opened whole new worlds. It makes sense - why spend decades terra forming a planet if there were perfectly inhabitable worlds elsewhere. Capitalistic greed takes over and and corruption is now rife in Mars.

And finally I loved the story on Ilus. Seasons 1-3, navigating space was the challenge. In season 4, the adventures take place on a new world, where the planet/protomolecule tries to kill our characters with flying bugs that cut through skin, death slugs, viruses that eat the vitreous humor of the eyes blinding everyone, tsunamis, earthquakes, shock waves, lightning etc.  Naomi’s body failing her on the planet, Holden and Miller, Amos and Wei.  It’s a tense situation as the Roci crew try to save everyone and at the same time face Murtry and his people. I like the crew dynamics we got with Amos/Holden stuck on Ilus  and Naomi/Alex on the Roci helping the Barbapiccola. Naomi’s conversation with Lucia was beautiful. All round great acting by everyone.

Murtry made for a great baddie. Dr. Elvi Okoye was bad-ass at the end there with proto-Miller and saved the day. Lucia gets a second chance. The Belters get to stay and mine the lithium. Bobbie figured out what was going on between Marco’s men and rogue martians. Avasarala lost. Good bye Miller. We meet Filip Inaros. Ashford went out like the Bossmang he is. And I loved season 4 of the Expanse!

7. three songs you didn’t expect to like but eventually loved

Ooh, interesting! I’m also pretty sure I’ve answered this before so I’ll try to think of different songs to name.

1. Placebo - Nancy Boy

As a teenager, I had a guy friend who was heavily into the Brian Molko aesthetic -- you know, didn’t quite know whether he wanted to be him or do him or both. He kinda introduced me to the band and into the whole ‘90s goth-grunge-alternative thing, since I’d been more into classic rock, 80′s goth pop and symphonic/power metal at the time. I mean, I still like the album version better but I’ve definitely learned to appreciate the noisy, punky restlessness of the single edit too.

2. Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused

It took me rather long to warm up to Zep’s first album, I think I was somehow unprepared for the overwhelming, hard-punching prog-blues. I mean, I guess it takes a certain kind of mood -- or possibly narcotics -- to truly appreciate the whole ‘Page-playing-his-guitar-with-a-goddamn-violin-bow-while-Plant-moans-in-the-background’ thing and all. :p (As a side note, that video is certainly a very confusing experience because it causes reactions of both ‘oh my god they are babies’ and ‘I have the weirdest boner’ variety. :D)

3. Queen - ‘39

I don’t know about not expecting to love it (as much as ‘country-folk ballad about effects of time dilation’ might be too weird for some to handle), but I discovered the song quite late or at least forgot about it for more than a decade. I have no idea how or why, I can’t even imagine not loving it with my whole heart now. It definitely gave me a whole new appreciation of it to find out what it’s about (ILU Bri), but it has such melancholy joy about it and Brian’s voice is magical and aaaahh. You know? :D

I had to mention at least one Finnish pop song from the ‘90s since they permeated my childhood so strongly. :D

2. The Fugees - Ready Or Not

I had a hip-hop phase. Yeah. But then again, ‘90s hip-hop was awesome and The Fugees were one of a kind.

3. Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but my dad raised me on classical music and soundtracks and this one has stayed with me for 27 years. The movie might not have been a masterpiece but holy damn. I still get chills every time.
