alec closet analysis thread
now it's confirmed that alec THE ultimate successor of broke nepo baby - sugar baby - tradwife pipeline, I compile a list of what items and brands i think he would use
casual wear

alec's style is the fit in trsom where he layer a leather jacket over hoodie, except now the leather jacket is some authentic italian leather costing 1000$ and the hoodie is ralph lauren. very subtle, very preppy boarding school with inheritance quiet luxury boy, ysl (magnus got confirmed wearing them and magnus shop/magic clothes for alec), loro piana, ami paris (magnus think "a" can be an initial alec is tres chic)
outerwear

classic burberry trench coat, leather jacket (a must), puffer, bomber, if in in dark color and cozy, there 70% chance alec wants it. fw chanel tweed stuff but non-monogram only. oh yeah got access to magnus unlimited closet of fur coat and been dressing in mob wife style every winter (it suit him so why change)
formal wear

structured, clean line, no fussy business. rarely do a three piece suit, unless it's a fancy nightout with magnus. layered his sweater/turtleneck with a blazer all the time. in shadoworld gala or events his suit would have pop of red either from the tie, the brooch or the detail to signal his position while blending in with other party-goers (consul robe wouldn't be sensible, considering shadowhunters history with downworlders). i can see ysl, celine, bottega, alexander mcqueen and peter do (the suit with the open back is for magnus only)
bag

THE shadoworld birkin mom, his collection isn't the biggest in the world because he's very particular in his pieces, no neon, overt pattern or rhinestone. got a mini birkin to store his airphones and gummy bear and izzy can't believe this is her brother's life now. big fans of every big bag imaginable, his birkin always looks like it may burst any moment. louis vuitton duffle bag, neutral, no excessive logo
jewelry

like anything silver, white gold, platinum, diamond, sapphire, pearl. tolerable of period and colored diamonds. keep ruby (bad association), gold and those god-awful rolex away from him please. own a couple of richard mille but only for fancy occasions, his go-to is usually vintage gucci bangle or cartier tank. got matching cartier love bracelet with max. break about 4 sets van cleef albraham but magnus like how delicately they sit on his collarbone so he gonna keep being restocked on them. for ring: harry winston, tiffany, graff, his fave shape is carre, emerald, cushion
perfume

woody, slightly white floral (he doesn't play about jasmine), anything fresh and clean, skin type of perfume. he's basically smell like entering a very expensive yet worth-the-price therapist's office. mfk 724, another 13, the matcha, and do son would be perfect. magnus got a whole shelves of kilian, alec basically take a look and one bottle and that's it. unless you're magnus don't come near him with anything patchouli or overwhelmed musk he would scowl as if your existence's offensive

what's Leverage (this is an invite to infodump)
Hohoho ok ok ok. Wiki-level infodump incoming!
So, Leverage is a 5 seasons TV show from the early 2010s that has come back in 2021 with a follow-up show called Leverage: Redemption. It is a Robin Hood kind of series in which a group of thieves help poor/honest citizens get back at the rich/powerful who wronged them/stole from them/abused them.
Despite most episodes following the same format, it manages to stay interesting and attention grabbing thanks to its peak attention to details. Everything you see in the episode is a hint for how they get the bad guy, which should be a staple of the police genre but which is particularly well done here.
It's a character focused series, with very interesting development and overarching themes and plots. It also does an amazing work at blurring the line between "good" people and "bad" people. Some good guys are absolute pieces of shit, some bad guys are just down on their luck. Several episodes have the main gang changing plans totally because the "bad" guy they were trying to scam ended up being just another victim, so instead they started offering their help to fight the actual bad guys. Many times the bad guy is a piece of shit but when there needs to be nuance, the job is done incredibly well.
There's also a very purposeful Found Family Trope that's just... great. It's awesome.
Now, I just said it's a very character focused show so I'll have to dive in more into the actual characters. I'll be trying to keep it to the very first episode and remain vague on the rest but there will be some spoilers ahead! Especially so since every single in-show introduction is a masterpiece that I must talk about.
The Mastermind: Nathan "Nate" Ford is the brain of the group. He's an ex-Insurance employee who got fucked over by said insurance company when they refused to pay for his son's medical fees (something I'm sure many US citizens can relate to). He ends up having to work with criminals he has previously hunted down before, which gives him a good overall knowledge of how they all work while his time in the insurance company explains why he knows so many scams.
Despite being the "token good guy" in the first season, I'd say he's the most interesting at first. He's a self destructive genius with a terrible alcohol problem, and that alcohol storyline is just so beautifully handled in the first 2 seasons, I was completely hooked. Starting season 3 the line between honest man and criminal blurs though, as it should considering his activities for the past couple years, so he lost my interest just a bit. Still a very strong character with amazing storylines and a terrible personality.
Among the Found Family Trope, he is the depressed alcoholic father who pushes his kids too far but would still do everything to make sure they come home safe. His arc is literally going from deadbeat dad to the dad that steps up.
The Hacker: Alec Hardison is an early 20 years old sassy chatty black kid who, not content of being one hell of a hacker, is also an amazing grifter who picks up skills on the fly. While the sassy chatty hacker who is the comic relief of the show is a common trope, he's one hell of a charming character who will weaponise everything he has underhand to get away with stuff. Absolute kudos to his actor who was also in his early 20s at the time who regularly offer some of the best performances ever seen on TV. I swear that guy is too good.
His introduction depicts all that in seconds. He's the first thief to appear, already talking his head off and giving his opinion on the technology he's been given for the job. His introductory flashback is interesting as it doesn't show him in the middle of hacking, but instead getting caught by police having fun in a hotel room he stole and giving a Star Wars reference. Just from both of those you flag him as a young easy-going guy who still messes up a bunch.
In the Found Family Trope, he is the youngest child who messes up a lot. He has the most obvious father/child undertone with Nate, and an equally obvious bigger/younger sibling undertone with Eliot.
The Hitter: Eliot Spencer is a thirty something years old man whose job is keeping the rest of the gang safe. When it comes to the hardened ex-military trope, you expect scary brooding man who always avoids being hit while getting rid of his opponents in seconds. That's not quite the case with Eliot. Yes, he gives off scary and brooding vibes, but he actually has the biggest heart of the gang. He's regularly shown being the one who worries the most for others, and there's an ongoing thing about him being the defacto person to go to get help help when you're 18 and under. Eliot has an incredible amount of screentime being soft and helping/protecting children.
Not only that, Eliot isn't some kind of super soldier. He gets hit. A lot. But the point is that he always gets back on his feet to continue the fight. His hitter prowesses come more from the fact that he has a lot of knowledge in the matter, rather than from being a perfect fighter. He also has an underlying theme with self-control and anger issues. Eliot is a character that is constantly annoyed/angry, and who uses fighting as a self-regulating tool.
On top of all that, he's also a good grifter who, when not there to hit people, is there to hit on girls. He's regularly used as eye candy to keep the attention away from the others. He's also (not so) surprisingly low key. Eliot is often described as "hiding his game well", his opponents often underestimating him.
Eliot is the second thief to appear on screen, being asked by Hardison what exactly was his job here and not answering, nailing in the "low key" aspect of him that confuses his opponents. It's reinforced by his introductory flashback which has him sipping coffee while having guns pointed at him, then cutting to the outside of the room so we don't see his skill in action, then back to the room where he's still sipping his coffee, unfazed, while everybody else is K.O. The last part of his introduction comes when he finally shows what he is capable of, appearing out of nowhere to put out of commission several guards who hold Hardison at gunpoint, to which he finally answer to Hardison earlier question of what exactly he was here for, with a smile. That's where you start getting a glimpse of his softer side that is entirely focused on keeping his team safe.
In the Found Family Trope, he is the eldest son. He bullies Hardison at least once per episode (and Hardison fucks him over about as many times too), and is the one who, with Sophie, keeps Nate in check so that he doesn't go overboard. Nate and Eliot have a lot in common and while they are rarely clashing, there is definitely a tension between them.
The Thief: Parker is a (most likely autistic (edit: she is indeed autistic, it's canon)) young woman who loves money and throwing herself off of buildings. She starts off as quirky/weird/off putting until we (and the main gang) start to understand her. She is both the most obvious and the most complex character of the bunch, who unabashedly loves what she does and has a lot of fun with her new partners, all the while having absolutely no idea how to handle interpersonal relationships.
She is the one that grows the most during the show, picking up skills left and right (fighting from Eliot, grifting from Sophie, etc), developing her interpersonal skills and empathy, learning to rely on others and falling in love. Her evolution is just the best and she never gives up her whimsy while developing.
She's the third thief to appear on screen, but she's actually the first one being mentioned! Nate tells his client that "Parker is crazy" before agreeing to take the job. She appears hanging upside down from a rafter, interrupting the boys to ask playfully if she can have an earpiece too, and finally jumping off the building with a joyful yell before Nate can give the go. Then in her introductory flashback, we see her as a young kid, with a terrible family situation, literally blowing up her house after her "father" dared her to become a better thief to get the bunny plushie she wanted. And so you know Parker is the wild card of the team who is actually pretty forthright once you've pinpointed her interests.
In the Found Family Trope, she's the middle child who has... whatever is going on with Hardison and Eliot. While the boys have more obvious family interactions with Nate (the father), Parker mainly has them with Sophie (the mom) who teaches her the most out of everybody. Nate still regularly is there to explain things to her when she's confused, and Eliot teaches her how to bully Hardison (lovingly of course).
The Grifter: Sophie Devereaux is an actress that the gang fetches when their client fucks them over. It's a bit hard to depict her personality like the others because her whole theme is that she has identity issues. As a grifter she has many identities, and she plays them so often that she comes to forget who she even is in the first place. She's a quick witted, caring person who helps tempering Nate and coming up with plans, she's a femme fatale who either seduces or instills fear in her preys, she's the one who puts at ease the clients who come ask the group for help, she's the one who comes up with on the spot solutions when something goes awry and needs an immediate fix, she's the one always at the forefront of the plans keeping the attention on her so the others can do their jobs, etc etc. Sophie is everything and nothing all at once, which makes her a fascinating character that is difficult to explain properly.
She's the last thief to appear on screen, being brought by Nate. She's introduced as a terrible actress, all three thieves being appalled by her prestation on stage while Nate is smiling wildly. Then we get a glimpse of the romantic tension between her and Nate when he asks her for help, and another glimpse at their closeness when the three thieves turn to her when Nate confuses them, only for Sophie to tell them he really hasn't changed. Her introductory flashback focuses on her stealing a painting, being intercepted by Nate, and them both firing at each other. Finally the last part of her introduction comes when she shows off her actual acting talents while grifting the bad guy, startling Hardison who was still worried about her acting skills.
Sophie is introduced with her acting skills and her relationship with Nate instead of her personality or quirks like the other (the only quirk here being that she's a terrible actress on stage but an excellent one when she's grifting), which keeps nailing down her identity crisis.
Since we're on Sophie, I'd like to point out how well the writing team handled the actress being pregnant and needing to stay away from the show for a while. Her reason for being away tapped into her identity crisis, but she still was there to give advices to the others, mainly the "kids". While it was obvious in one episode that they placed the characters and angled the camera to avoid showing she was pregnant, the rest was handled beautifully well.
The show seems very respectful of its actors, to the point it lets them showcase their skills in season 3 like Hardison and Eliot's actors' music prowesses. It also allows them to shine in the filler episodes by having them play other roles, to which they deliver amazing performances (especially Hardison's actor. I'll never shut up about him, he's just perfect).
And yes, that was the time when we still had filler episodes! And they are GREAT! Some of my favorite episodes are filler episodes, like one where the whole gang go over a theft they all accidentally did together years ago, constantly fucking each other over without realising, all from their own perspectives. There are jabs at each other, like Sophie's accent or Eliot being a ladykiller and a terrifying psychopath, but there's also an insane amount of details scattered. One of my favorite being that everybody else saw the head of security carrying a rifle while Eliot was the only one (save Nate) to see it as only a box. It's a minor background detail that the show doesn't even point out, but when I caught it I got super invested in the episode. At first I believed it was because Eliot hates guns and sees them as sticks to beat people up with, but with the last perspective being shown with the "truth", it turned out Eliot was the only one seeing it as a box because it was a box. Eliot would be attuned to the amount of danger the objects around him would pose, and so wouldn't mix up a box for a gun. Once more, it's a background detail but it just ended convincing me that the showrunners care a lot about this show.
Ok I'm officially out of fumes. I think I could go into more if I dove into the actual episodes but I don't want to spoil more than I already did. All in all, great show, handles heavy stuff like addiction and grief and neurodivergency incredibly well without being condescending, scratches a hitch by fucking over powerful people in the most horrendous ways, makes you aware of the kind of scams there are around, etc etc.
It's just one hell of a good show. 10/10 would recommend. I only wish the 5 seasons box set wasn't so expensive, I can't throw that much money in it ToT
ONE LAST THING! If you wanna watch, the seasons are all available on Youtube (US only, get your VPN ready if you're not from there) in the RIGHT ORDER! The first season was aired out of order by the network so you will probably find it in the wrong order online too. It's not much since each episode is mostly contained, but it did make me pause at one point because of consistency issues.
Season 1 link
Season 2 link
Season 3 link
Season 4 link (careful, the Playlist starts with the last episode and finishes with the first. You gotta reverse the order of the Playlist!)
Season 5 link (careful, the Playlist starts with the last episode and finishes with the first. You gotta reverse the order of the Playlist!)
Redemption S1 link (careful, the Playlist starts with the last episode and finishes with the first. You gotta reverse the order of the Playlist!)
You're welcome 😘

This train of thought is so narrow fandom wise but I can’t get it out of my head SO
What Fears would the Undersiders be avatars of because Phthalo can’t stop thinking about a worm/tma crossover!!
Lisa- starting off, lisa would obviously be the eye, BUT I think also a little bit of the web because of the way she has her thumb in every pie. Also I think it goes without saying that she would definitely kick ass as the archivist. Plot over within 5 business days.
Taylor- oh my dear sweet Taytay,, the corruption. I mean,, she literally controls bugs it’s practically handed to you. Maybe the web as well? Probably less than Lisa. Definitely a smidge of the lonely in the beginning but not to the point of avatarhood. Also, just like Lisa, if she was archivist no one. Would survive. She would’ve Gertrude’d that shit so fast..
Brian- the dark. Do I really need to elaborate? Moving on.
Aisha- ok this one took a bit of thought because my first instinct is the stranger, BUT her background and story would also make her super duper susceptible to the lonely and maybe even the vast almost? I think really she’d be lonely especially since she has the disappearing/being forgotten gimmick, which Martin pulled off as well.
Alec- ok I’m not an Alec connoisseur like some, but my gut wants to say the web or the spiral. I’m leaning towards web, power wise, but the way he effects people and especially considering the shadow stalker arc, I feel like the spiral would take him very easily, like scary easy. He’s also fairly good at lying/apathy just due to circumstance, so that would also align with the spiral and the web
Rachel- the hunt. I think that’s obvious. But I also almost want to say the slaughter as well, almost a crossing over grey area. The hunt is obviously going to be the strongest of the two considering. Dog powers. Also I think she would make the BEST Daisy.
If any interest comes of this I also want to do the s9 and maybe a few others, also I’m planning on maybe drawing them as avatars maybe

"Tea and Sympathy" and "Returning Home" were the filming codenames for Broadchurch S2 and S3.
Tea and Sympathy? It really fits the vibe of S2, and it sounds quite cute.
I've known about this for a long time, but never really thought about it seriously until I did some research and discovered that the old-fashioned phrase 'Tea and Sympathy' is actually a 1953 Broadway stage play by Robert Anderson, which was also adapted into a film directed by Vincente Minnelli.
ThIS play addresses the harmful effects of toxic masculinity and the neglect and suppression of women. It's still very relevant today, even though some of its content may seem a bit outdated. But this is a play from seventy years ago, from a time still governed by the "Hays Code."
In the play, the protagonist, a student named Tom, struggles to fit in with other boys because he doesn’t conform to traditional masculine norms and is bullied for it. His favourite teacher, Laura, shows him care and understanding, offering him comfort and sympathy. Tom’s identity is deliberately blurred; we never know whether he’s queer, and that doesn’t really matter—he is, in any case, part of the marginalized group. I thought, well, our Alec Hardy is actually a character who strays from traditional toxic masculinity—a kind of outsider—and in S2, Ellie Miller helps him.
I thought, okay, this could just be a coincidence. Then, when I read about the director Vincente Minnelli... He's known for his musical films, and his signature style includes the use of 16:9 widescreen and vivid colours.
As a former costume and set designer, Minnelli had a deep understanding of colour aesthetics and how to use them to guide the audience’s attention. Especially in the Tea and Sympathy, the two protagonists, Tom and Laura, are associated with colors that represent traditional men (blue) and friendship (yellow).
Laura’s outfits are in shades of yellow and orange, her curtains are yellow, her flowers are yellow; Tom wears a light blue shirt, blue pajamas, a blue suit, his costume is blue, and he sends blue flowers. At the film's climax, Laura changes into a green dress, as if blending her yellow with Tom’s blue. It is in this dress that she first romantically proposes to Tom, though she hesitates at the last moment. In the final scene, she meets Tom in a lush green forest. The whole world turns green, but Laura abandons yellow and chooses pink instead. She no longer offers friendship but instead presents herself as an independent woman. [x]
Doesn’t this sound a lot like Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller? Ellie’s home is filled with yellow, and she often wears a signature bright orange jacket; Alec Hardy dresses in dark colours, but he is generally associated with blue: light blue shirts, a blue sweater, the small blue house in S2.
As their relationship develops, they begin to assimilate. In S1, Alec wears black clothing while Ellie wears grey. Later, Ellie’s clothing becomes darker until she starts wearing black, and Alec begins wearing grey ties. By the start of S3, Ellie Miller has a blue jacket.
The use of colors in Broadchurch has been confirmed by the show’s costume designer Ray Holman.
The play even has a character named Ellie (Martin), who, like Tom, seems to be slandered with rumours and becomes an outsider in the town—just like our Ellie.
You can read the script of this play here.

This was a key passage that was left niggling at me. It was thanks to Pale that I found out what queerplatonic relationships are, and it felt like things really started clicking into place. I am now comfortable saying that this passage was a key datapoint of wildbow's tendency to include relationships that blur conventional boundaries, for good and for ill. It's very queer and absolutely fascinating and I love it.

Tmi gang and the perfumes they would use
your local tmi brained has come back with another analysis. this thread considered multi facets into picking a specific sense for each character, from their personality, occupation to their financial background. and feel free to add in any perfume you think also fit these characters 💖
Alec

Starting off with our beloved consul. After marrying into wealth and slowly moving away from the battlefield and into the office, Alec develops a penchant for light, comforting scents, thinking white floral, peony, and smell of freshly washed fine cashmere sweater. Note the sandalwood, through the influence of his husband
Magnus

The ever-elusive high warlock of Brooklyn. Gorgeous, exquisite taste. Say you can’t afford him and everyone knows it. Magnus loves a rich gourmand with bits of kick, much like his chaotic personality. He's a party boy at heart, but that family side sure brings out the sweetness
Clary

Clary is like the turning point between spring and summer. Windy enough for a lazy picnic. Floral but not too sweet. She needs something fresh, to roll out of bed every morning for shadowhunter training, art class, and then the occasional demon-hunting date night
Jace

The golden boy your parents warn you about. Is that the beast or the fallen angel? Can be seen either shirtless or sticking by his armies of worn leather jackets, Jace has no qualms about attracting eyes everywhere he goes. He would smell like he instigates a fight in some sleazy crowded bar, and win
Izzy

Classic. Feminine. Seductive. The fantasy of every man's dream. Vanilla, almond, and tropical fruits, it is as delicious as it get. But beware behind the sweetness, her sharp whip and sharper heels, ready to crush anyone and everyone getting in her way. And it would be an honor
Simon

He doesn’t know much about perfume but got this as a prank and refuses to stop using it unironically. He also thinks its' citrus and salt help with the sweat after training and band practice. He’s lucky Izzy happens to like his natural musky scent beneath all the spray
+ (2) BONUS
Alternative pick for Alec

Still his favorite white floral, but there's more push for fresh and fruity
Alternative pick for Magnus

A million different smells at once, smokey and sexy

isnt it crazy how imp gets countered by like 2 capes and theyre both heartbroken? like regent can control her (although she can escape if he falls asleep) and cherish can sense her even when her stranger power is up. if i was more adept at vasilposting i would say that this was related to how she only really finds people she can relate with amongst the heartbroken and this is shown through them being able to break through her veil of being forgotten. but im not. so i wont.

quick post on why i like lunalec/lunar x alec over falec/funneh x alec and levan/lunar x evan other than the fact that it's peak /hj
quick disclaimer! i don't do RPF (real people fanfiction), these are entirely based on the characters they display and roleplay as in videos. if i say lunar, i mean the character. if i say wenny, i mean the real person behind the screens.
1. Lunar's Personality
Lunar, in most videos, is chaotic neutral, dramatic, and enjoys causing havoc and investigating paranormal activity and ghosts, occasionally even befriending them (ex. Kitty from their Roblox Family Roleplay Series). But she's also quiet, introverted, very artistic, and kind to her siblings.
In most of their videos, it's implied that they're all siblings as they don't actively change their character lores (minus the ones where they aren't playing as the KREW, or their minecraft adventures roleplay series where they don't seem to know each other), so let's say that it's canonical in most videos that they're all siblings. I'll personally say that I headcanon Lunar as the 4th of the 5 siblings, as that is where Wenny is based on their ages.
With this in mind, Lunar is both an older sister (to Draco) and the youngest sister.
2. Alec's Personality
Alec is firstly depicted as this quiet handsome guy in the episode he debuts, as Funneh seems to fall for him almost instantaneously. Though this can be backed by Felicia also seemingly flirting with him in Season 2. Alec is insanely competitive, fighting Kyran on almost everything, and is also incredibly secretive and very coolheaded under pressure, as depicted in Season 1 where Funneh comments on how police are throwing things while Alec is detained and was likely their main and only suspect for "Info-Kun".
He's also depicted as hardworking, responsible (as he works for Yandere-Chan when his family is struggling financially), and sly, as he helps Funneh, Kyran, and Gold break into the school to retrieve Kyran's gift for Senpai's birthday instead of helping Yandere-Chan with her own break-in.
He does show a softer side around Funneh in later episodes, as well as towards his younger sister, Aly. He cares deeply for Funneh and Aly, as well as his parents, and is very understanding of things. He's also occasionally depicted as affectionate and shy with Funneh. He can also be incredibly protective of Funneh and Aly, as he continues working for Yandere-Chan when blackmailed with Funneh's safety.
3. Why ship them?
Other than my "haha reject canon, welcome to fandom" mindset, honestly, their personalities match well with each other. Funneh and Lunar are incredibly similar in a lot of ways due to their siblinghood, but also incredibly different. Both sisters are majorly introverted, but Funneh is more loud-chaotic while Lunar is more creepy-chaotic.
Alec is seemingly unbothered by anything paranormal or ghostly, only really worrying for others' safety, so he wouldn't really worry about anything Lunar was doing unless it put her in danger. With both of them being older siblings, they will inevitably nurture each other's needs without realizing it, although with Lunar being a younger sibling, Alec may feel more comfortable nurturing than being nurtured and the reverse for Lunar.
Alec is incredibly grounded in his personality while Lunar will sometimes float in her head or her paranormal activities (ref: Roblox Family when Lunar met Kitty and became obsessed with it). With Lunar being chaotic neutral, I don't think she'd really care if Alec were helping Yandere-Chan out. Lunar is implied to not mind the idea of murder or even do it herself, but will still want the killer to be caught so long as the killer isn't her (based on their Among Us and Murder Mystery videos).
I think they wouldn't mind sitting in silence together, just doing things they like, even if its not the same activity. They have the dynamic of a witch and a black cat.
4. Why not Levan?
I honestly don't have anything against it, I just prefer Lunalec because of the dynamic difference. I typically like golden retrievers x black cats, but I suppose I like Lunar with someone that will match her vibe more.
5. Why not Falec?
I love Falec, it is a very fun and cute ship canonically and I was a ride or die Falec shipper in 2015 - 2017. Around 2022, though, I rewatched YHS and ended up preferring Evan and Funneh's dynamic a lot more. I still respect and adore the ship, but I won't be making much content about Falec because of my preferences, and the fact that I may be the only creator actively making Lunalec content.

Demetri Character Analysis - Part 1
━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━
Demetri New Moon - Duality of Diplomacy and Violence
Demetri first appears in the alleyway, instructed by Aro to bring two potential law-breakers back to him. Even in this tense and dangerous scenario with violence looming over everyone, Bella’s first impression of Demetri is his ‘soothing’ tone. This is no doubt a tactic to control the situation and discourage any rashness on Edward’s part.
"Felix merely meant to point out the proximity of the sun," the other shadow said in a soothing tone.
Even when Edward is refusing his request, Demetri continues to play the role of a ‘polite’ shadow who resembles ‘reasonableness’. Indeed, his request does seem reasonable - they 'merely' and ‘simply’ want to ‘speak’ somewhere less conspicuous.
But simple requests should have simple consequences - you don’t kill someone for refusing to comply. Him masking the underlying threat under the pretense of reasonableness when bringing someone back for trial is manipulative and calculating.
The second, more reasonable shadow cautioned. "Not here." He turned to Edward. "Aro would simply like to speak with you again, if you have decided not to force our hand after all."
It also shows that he is not someone that relies entirely on his vampire strengths and animalistics instincts (very common for vampires), and instead understands the politics of the hunt.
A readiness to kill:
What impresses me the most is how quickly he is able to shift from politely negotiating, to being ready to literally kill Edward and Bella, and then immediately return to his polite demeanor once Alice points out the human witnesses. He is able to evaluate the most suitable course of action in a split second, and adjust accordingly. This is not a simple task, as many hunters need to actively get into the mindset to kill.
I imagine this is a requirement for his job, where he is often the first point of contact with the accused, and would be forced to make a split second decision to either give them a chance to attend trial, or take swift actions to eliminate them if necessary.
‘No doubt, he would be a fighter. There was no other way he could have survived so long, always at the spear point of any attack. And he must always lead, because he was their tracker. (Breaking Dawn).
Therefore, Demetri is either someone who is able to calmly negotiate even when he is ready to kill, or someone who is able to quickly shift into a killing mindset. Either is equally impressive and dangerous.
Cruel Detachment:
“Nice fishing” (In reference to Heidi bringing back the group of tourists for the Volturi to feast on).
It is one thing to completely disregard humans, it is another to joke about the mass-killing of them. I am not a vegetarian myself, but if I were to go to a farm and meet the cows that will to be sent to the slaughter house for the BBQ I’m throwing, I would not feel comfortable joking about it.
To me, this is Meyer’s way of emphasizing the cruelty of the Volturi vampires, and using Demetri, who was the voice of reason, to make this comment really reinforces the point that even the most polite of them exhibits a callous detachment. It draws an interesting parallel to Alec’s interaction, where we are once again presented with a stark contrast between a vampire’s outward civility, and their inner detachment. It somehow drives the point more so than using someone like Jane and Caius.
Casanova of life?
Charlie Bewley, the actor portraying Demetri, once described the character as a “casanova of life.” However, there is nothing in canon that indicates this. In fact, I believe his proximity with Felix, who appears to be the actual casanova, would make this more difficult.
I imagine his tracking ability and Felix’s combat capabilities make them the perfect duo (find and eliminate), so the two would often work together. The persona Felix takes on is a flirty and impulsive muscle, and he often times might have to engage in conducts to reinforce this brute image (more on Felix in a later post). Therefore, Demetri would need to play the role of a mature, cautious leader, as seen in New Moon. This includes laying low and cleaning up Felix’s mess - to also participate in a promiscuous lifestyle would draw too much attention. I do think Demetri needs to be charming and sophisticated for his job, which might give the illusion of him being a ‘casanova’, but he's got too much responsibility to actually indulge in this lifestyle.
However, this is mostly my take on the limited information presented in canon. I would not be entirely surprised if he does turn out to be more promiscuous. It just means he is able to balance work with pleasure better than I give him credit for.

I really enjoyed S2, and I think it helps Ellie Miller get her life back. To me, S2 is a story of rebuilding trust and healing relationships.
In S1, Ellie Miller went through some really difficult things: ·Her relationship with Beth was broken; ·Her connection with Tom was damaged; ·She lost a job she was good at and had to leave her community.

So, how did she initially plan to deal with these things? In the official short story, it’s described like this: …to count down the days until Joe stands in the dock at Wessex County Court and says the magic word that will give her back her son.
So basically, she’s just waiting, waiting for time to heal everything. Was this approach actually effective? Seeing how passive she is in her attempts to connect with Tom and Beth, it’s clear it didn’t help much at all.

It’s only when her anger finally kicks in that she manages to reclaim everything that was rightfully hers.

And! This pattern is subtly repeated in Alec Hardy. See he’s how so passive; he really needs to get angry.

"God will put you in the right place." I think it was Broadchurch‘s God who put those boys on that road.
Some might not like seeing Hardy that way, but if you think about it, he’s becoming more like Ellie Miller
