HI CAN I REQUEST MIKE SCHMIDT X FEM READER?? MAYBE SOME FLUFF I JUST- UGH I NEED HIM. anyways. PLEASE? THANKS! REMEMBER TO HYDRATE!
ᥫ᭡. winter heart , mike schmidt ( fluff )
you and me, hugging ? if you want …
tags fem + gn reader. pining. friends to ( redacted ). mike tries to be a meanie but he can’t. special abby cameo.
Tumblr media
“cold?”
mike quirks a brow at your shivering form, the lack of warm layers and no sign of any other winter accessory made him visibly cringe.
“o-obviously.” your teeth clattered with heavy pronunciation, clinging to yourself for some ounce of warmth. “t-the forecast are liars, i’ll never trust them a-again.”
he huffs a laugh at your retort, his breath condensing into the winter air — swirling aimlessly into the filtered blue atmosphere. mike was extremely amused, he could tell you that. during the coldest seasons, you decided to only wear a sleeved shirt constructed with the thinnest fabric he’s ever seen.
you play dumb games, you win stupid prizes. he believes wholeheartedly.
at the same time, he grew concerned. your reddened nose sniffled in the cold air, shakily clinging onto your shirt like it could get any warmer. your brows were furrowed in discomfort, the moisture of your lips stolen by the crisp breeze. even in this condition, you stayed with him to watch abby — who was bustling in the frozen playground with her new friends.
instinctively, mike tugs down the zipper of his oversized fleece hoodie — the bulky layers he wore combating the bitter cold. he turns to your shivering form, suddenly feeling shy about his decision, but seeing you in such a vulnerable state for his own sake made him feel guilty. mike bites back a self-encouraging sigh, shaking his head in an attempt to get rid of the fluttering feeling inside his core. with his gloved hands snug in his pockets, he widens his arms to open his furry jacket — coughing dumbly to catch your attention.
you turned to him and tilted your head in confusion, darting your eyes towards his flushed face to the baggy graphic t-shirt and the oversized jacket that cling to his body, somehow it felt like a mockery to your cold state.
“haha … nice jacket, i know you’re much more warmer and smarter than me. you don’t have to rub it in.” you jested through a freezing hiss, rolling your eyes at his attempt to push your buttons.
“w-what? wait no! just come here, please.” his voice sounded a bit more desperate than he intended it to be, but he usually doesn’t offer this treatment to anybody.
still confused, you shuffled towards him with caution. you silently gasped when you got closer, feeling the comforting warmth radiating off his body.
mike gulps nervously, feeling your panting chest grazing his. it was a strange feeling, how in sync your heartbeats were — they danced in the rhyme together, the tempo seemed to quicken as you approached him closer and closer. finally, he finds the courage to wrap his fleece jacket around your quivering body, hesitantly hugging you through the thick fabric.
your eyes widen in realization, he’s hugging you. mike schmidt is hugging you. he felt so warm and cuddly, all the lousy layers of old t-shirts he forced himself to wear felt like laying on soft pillows. the fur threaded in his jacket brushed its warmth against your frozen skin. but the thing making you burn up was the fact you’re so close to mike, shyly wrapping your arms around his frame while your head is nearly tucked into the nape of his neck — but you hesitated to go any further.
“are you warm?” mike’s voice was gentle in your ear, the flush of his body melted your bitter coldness in an instant.
you slightly nodded, still a little disoriented from this predicament.
feeling more comfortable, mike takes his gloved hand out of his pocket, assuring your stiffness as he petted your head, guiding you to rest in the nape of his neck. his warm pulse tapped softly against your forehead. you could hear his life line — every breath he takes. this felt like heaven, being held in mike’s arms. then he’s not protesting, his melting grip was tighter — protective like someone could snatch you away from his arms. he loved the way you smelled, delicate perfume and fresh laundry. if he could keep this close and take in your scent, he would if it wasn’t so creepy for him to do.
there was a comfortable silence between the two of you. the childlike chants and laughter faded into the background, the bitter cold didn’t feel so bad anymore. it felt like your hearts were clinging onto each other, feeding the aching starvation of touch and warmth. he needed this, you needed it too.
“are you guys finally dating now?”
a youthful voice forced you both out of a love trance, eyes widened and heads snapped towards the smaller figure. it was abby, a huge grin on her flushed face — half covered with a comically large knitted scarf.
“abby … don’t.” mike winced at her bluntness, but he still held you in a warm embrace.
you allowed him to cling onto you, equally flustered at her words but much more comfortable, even playful at the weird circumstances.
“i’m still patiently waiting for your brother to ask me out.” you teased the younger schmidt, earning an excited giggle and an exasperated sigh from the older schmidt.
maybe he should’ve just offered you his jacket if you were going to embarrass him in front of his younger sister.

Steve hates February 14th.
It's a constant reminder that he is alone, that no one ever wants to stick around with him long enough to celebrate Valentine's Day. Most of them leave after one night together.
It's also his birthday. The former heartthrob of Hawkins High was born on Valentine's Day, but he can't even get himself a date. Or a birthday party. Every year that they were around, his parents would go out for their annual Valentine's Day dinner and leave Steve to celebrate his birthday on his own. He stopped associating the day with his birthday by the time he was 13.
Now, he spent the day giving out roses and chocolates to all his friends so that they feel special, so that they don't feel as left out and forgotten as he did for his whole life.
Dustin and Mike fake gag when he gives them both a box of their favourite chocolate and Will blushes and stumbles through a thank you while holding his chocolates to his chest. He got Max and Lucas a big box of chocolates to share on their date.
Robin smacks a dramatic wet kiss to his cheek when he gifts her a bunch of sunflowers (her favourite flower), she also slips something into his pocket when no one's looking and whispers, "Happy birthday." He pulls her into a tight hug and thanks her quietly.
Steve spent a lot of time debating what to get Eddie. Their friendship felt like something more, but neither of them has put a label on what the hell they are to each other, so he decides to keep it simple. He rocks up to Eddie's new trailer with a box of chocolates under his arm and a small bunch of roses clutched tightly in his hands. He's so fucking nervous he forgets to knock.
After gently knocking, the door is pulled open and Steve nearly stumbles down the steps because Eddie is wearing a fucking suit. An all black three piece suit with his hair tied up. He looks hot. So hot all Steve can do is stare.
Eddie groans and runs a hand down his face, careful not to smudge his eye-liner. "Damn it, Harrington. You're not supposed to be here." He sounded... disappointed.
Steve takes in Eddie's outfit again and the pieces slowly start to come together in his mind. How could he be so stupid? "Shit, sorry, Eds. Are you on a date with someone? Nevermind. I don't want to know. I'll just, uh, go. Sorry to interrupt." He turns away as quick as possible and hurries down the few steps.
He should have known. Eddie doesn't want to spend Valentine's Day with him. They're just friends. God, he's so stupid.
A hand gently grabs his arm and stops his hurried retreat. "Steve, wait." Eddie stands in front of him, his heeled dress shoes making him slightly taller than Steve. "I don't have a date with anyone."
Steve finds that hard to believe. He's in a suit for fuck sake. He's even brushed his hair and styled it so nicely. He's lying to make Steve feel better. "Whatever, Eds. I really don't care– "
Eddie surprises him in that moment. He reaches out and holds Steve's face so, so gently in his hands. Steve doesn't know what to do, he's frozen in shock and unable to look away from Eddie, who's standing so close now. He brushes a thumb gently across Steve's flushed cheek. "Steve, I don't have a date because I was on my way to your place. To ask you."
"Ask me? On a date?" Steve is struggling to wrap his head around the situation. Having Eddie so close is causing all coherent thoughts in his head to disintegrate. All he can focus on is the smell of Eddie's cologne and the cool sting of his rings on his skin and the slight shine on his lips because, fuck, he's wearing lip gloss.
Eddie laughs and steps even closer, their noses almost brushing as he invades Steve's space. "I've been wanting to ask you out for weeks, Stevie. I thought today would be the best day. I even bought you a birthday present."
Steve wants to cry. He wants to cry and laugh and kiss Eddie Munson until he can't breathe. "How do you know it's my birthday?" Dustin doesn't even know it's his birthday. Hell, he's pretty sure his own parents don't know it's his birthday.
Eddie sighs and rests his forehead against Steve's, the intimate action steals Steve's breath away. He's too nervous to move, to even breathe. They've never been this close before. Eddie closes his eyes and just breathes for a moment before answering Steve's question. "Dude, I've been madly in love with you for an entire year. It'd be pretty shitty if I didn't know when your birthday was." He says it so casually, so easily, like he's talking about the weather.
Steve can't even be angry that he called him 'Dude' in the middle of his confession because Eddie is pulling away, his eyes full of worry as he takes in Steve's shocked expression. "Fuck, that was too much. I'm sorry –"
Steve drops the roses and the chocolates, grabs the collar of Eddie's suit, and shuts his rambling up with a kiss.

You're his ex, but he's desperate for a babysitter. (pt. 2)
Mike Schmidt x fem reader

Part 1 Part 3
─────────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────────────────
Mike calls you up to ask a favor for the 2nd night in a row. He hates having to resort to you, his ex for Christ's sake, but he has no other choice. Besides, after last night... maybe he doesn't hate it so much.
"Again?" You ask, feigning annoyance. "What, did your usual babysitter fuck off and die?"
Mike winces at that. "I hope not. I can't really afford anyone else right now."
"And why do you expect me to come be your free labor, Schmidt?"
"Because I'll owe ya one?"
"You already owe me one from last night."
"..."
"I'll owe you two."
You scoff in an attempt to cover a laugh. Damnit. Why did he have to be so charming?
"Fine. But we are not making a habit of this."
"We aren't. I promise. I'll look for a new babysitter this weekend. I just can't leave Abby alone overnight."
"That's a strange way of saying you can't go another minute without me."
"You're delusional, woman."
"A delusional woman you owe two favors, Mikey. Be careful throwing insults."
Now it's Mike's turn to stifle a laugh. He coughs in a feeble attempt at covering it up.
"What, catching a cold?"
"No. You just make me sick."
"Stop flirting with me and hang up already."
Mike does just that, slamming the corded landline phone back into it's holster. The little smiley face sticker Abby stuck to it years ago seems to taunt him almost as much as you just did. He sighs, leaning against the counter and wondering how he got himself into this mess. He shouldn't enjoy it so much when you toy with him like this. That's all it was, he was being played with. But damn it, after being lonely so long... he'd take what he could get.
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
You arrive at his house around half an hour later, annoyed at the prospect of crashing on his couch for the 2nd night in a row. You try to make your displeasure evident with a scowl as he opens the door, but when you see the way he's gawking at you...
"Stop staring. It's rude." You can't help but smirk slightly as you scold him, he's just so easy to mess with.
"Did you really have to dress like a slut just to babysit?" Mike hisses as you set down your things, taking in your outfit. A pair of shorts that you'd definitely be cold in, and a white tank top. Of course, you had a hoodie too, but it was unzipped, and he was more focused on what it didn't cover.
"Hey, last time you said..." Mike nods to the kitchen, and you trail off as you notice the girl sitting and coloring at the table. Abby. Oh. Right.
"You're not in any position to judge my clothing choices, Mikey."
Mike shivers as you whisper in his ear. What exactly is that supposed to mean? His clothes are fine, right? He studies his hoodie and jeans, then shakes himself and grits his teeth as he follows you into the kitchen.
"Look! Mike drew this one!" Abby excitedly shoves a piece of paper in your face as you sit down at the kitchen table with her. It's a sketch of a forest, pine trees and shrubs. It's actually rather well drawn, and you take a minute to look over it.
"It's nice, but you're the better artist for sure." You slide the paper back over to her and give Mike a teasing smile as he sits down across from you, on the other side of Abby.
"Oh, I know." She turns her attention back to her own drawing, another one of Mike. And... wait, was that...? No, it couldn't be...?
"Abby, what are you drawing?" Mike asks the question before you can, craning his neck to get a better look at her paper.
"You." She responds vaguely, still scribbling away.
"Okay, but what exactly is he doing?" You ask, scooting closer to her for a better look.
"And what am I wearing?"
"A suit. It's your wedding." Abby casually drops a bomb on you both, still not even bothering to look up from her paper. Wedding? Mike?
"You're engaged?" You turn to the dumbfounded older Schmidt, and discreetly scan his hands, looking for a ring.
"N-no? What? Abby, I'm not getting married." He finally sputters, face flushed a light shade of pink.
Abby doesn't respond, still focused on her drawing. Now that you're sure what it is, you can totally see it. The red isle. The benches. Mike, wearing... something that sort of resembles a suit, if you squint. And... a bride. You nearly choke when you spot her.
"Abbs, who's that?" You ask, pointing a shaky finger at the bride, who almost looks familiar...
"You."
"..."
Mike gives you a look, and you both quickly excuse yourselves from the table.
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
"Seriously, Mike? First you tell her I'm a witch, then you tell her I'm your fiancé? Make up your goddamn mind." You scowl at him and zip up your hoodie as he closes the door behind you. The night air is chilly, and you're almost starting to regret the shorts. Almost.
Mike returns your scowl as he leans against a wall. His porch isn't exactly the best hang out spot, but you two needed to speak privately after Abby's little comment.
"I didn't tell her you're my fiancé." He growls, speaking firmly. Must be trying to make up for the way he was totally blushing earlier.
"So what, then? She just made it up?"
"Come on..." He groans, burying his face in his hands and letting the tough act fall for a moment. "You know how she is..."
It was true, his sister was... weird. He still loved her obviously, more than anyone, especially his stupid ex-girlfriend. But she was certainty different from other kids, made evident by the fact she spent more time talking to imaginary people than Mike.
"Seriously... I didn't fuckin' say that..." Mike wasn't a very good liar. But this wasn't lying, right? He'd never explicitly told Abby he was going to marry you, but he definitely humored her when she asked about it way back when you two were dating. He'd told her maybe. Maybe. To a kid, that meant yes.
"You sure, Mikey? Don't have a ring hidden away somewhere, waiting to pop the question?" You cross your arms and scoff, but it's hard to be angry when this whole thing is so amusing. Abby definitely had a wild imagination, but she wouldn't just make up something like that out of nowhere. There had to be more to this.
"Hell no. I'd rather die alone than marry a witch." He practically spits in anger, but he's more angry at himself than you or Abby. He should have shut Abby down immediately when she asked about marriage... especially considering the relationship hardly lasted 3 months. But, well, he was a lovesick fool. Way back then. Not anymore.
"Pfft. Fine. Have fun at work, Honey." You taunt him as you head back inside, and you can hear him grumble more than a few curses in response.
Little sisters and ex-girlfriends, man. Mike wanted to scream.
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
You nearly choke on your glass of water as Abby drops yet another bomb on you.
"C-can you repeat that?" You ask, coughing.
"Will you teach me witch stuff? You know, cursing people?" Abby blinks up at you innocently. Damn these Schmidts and their big brown puppy eyes.
"Please? When you lifted the curse from Mike, it really worked!" She insists eagerly. "He colored with me!"
You watch as she proudly holds up Mike's drawing of a forest. She must really treasure it.
"I... uh... why do you want to learn witchcraft, Abby?"
Abby cocks her head at the question. "Why wouldn't I?"
"Fair enough." You laugh and shake your head. This kid.
"Alright... but we can't do witchery on empty stomachs. What do you want to eat?"
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
When Mike quietly slips back into the house at the crack of dawn, he nearly trips over his own feet when he sees the state of his kitchen table.
"The fuck happened here?" He mutters, picking up one of the many papers strewn across the table. The weird markings all over it vaguely resembled hieroglyphics, not that he was an expert on those. The part that really concerned him, though, was the circle of candles in the center of the table.
They weren't lit, thankfully, but they looked like they had been. Damn it. Those were for emergencies. Like the time he forgot to pay the power bill.
"Too tired for this shit." He gives up on trying to decipher whatever-the-fuck you and Abby did, and makes his way into the living room. He pauses yet again when he sees you sleeping on the couch. Was that his blanket? And pillow? From his bed? Damn infuriating woman.
"Get up." He gives your shoulder a shake, not bothering to be gentle. He doesn't have the patience right now.
"Nngh... 5 more minutes." Ugh. You sound just like Abby.
"Don't be a bum." He rips the blanket off of you, then immediately regrets it when he remembers just how little you're wearing. Your tank top had shifted, almost completely exposing your... fuck, he shouldn't stare.
"Don't you have work?" He grumbles, flopping down in his recliner and pointedly looking away from your body.
"Nah... It's my day off." You sit up and stretch, planting your feet on the floor and reaching up to the sky as you lean back against the couch. Either you don't notice that one of your breasts has fallen out of your tiny top, or you just don't care. Mike clears his throat and looks away again. Fuck. He's definitely blushing.
"Oh, shit." With a casual hand, you tuck your breast back into the tank top. Must have moved around a lot. Damn uncomfortable couch.
"You wanna explain why it looks like I hosted a cult meeting in my kitchen?" Mike snaps, finally able to focus.
"Hey, you're the one who convinced Abby I'm a witch. Not my fault the promise of learning a spell is such an effective way of getting her to eat dinner."
Mike furrows his brow at that. You got her to eat dinner? Two nights in a row? That's an accomplishment. "...Fine. But please, clean up your mess next time. I have to take her to school in a couple hours, and if the table is-"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll clean it up. Let me get some coffee first, jeez." You brush him off and make your way into the kitchen. He still has the same shitty coffee maker that looks like it belongs in an antique store. And no creamer, because Mike hates joy.
"You want a cup too?"
"I shouldn't. Gotta go to sleep after I drop Abby off at school." He grunts from the other room, and you can hear him getting out of the old creaky recliner he loves so much.
"Ah. Night shift."
"Yeah. Night shift."
Mike shuffles into the kitchen and you both stand there awkwardly for a few moments as the coffee brews.
"You don't really look like you sleep, you know." You remark, taking in his ever-present eyebags for the hundredth time.
"Yeah, well, I do. Sleeping is just so... tiring." He scoffs, making light of the situation. He's telling the truth, though. Sleep for him is more of a project than real rest. His eyes glaze over as he gets lost in thought for a moment.
"You good, Mike?" He flinches as you place a hand on his shoulder. He wasn't expecting that from you.
"Yeah, uh, just..."
"Tired?"
"Yeah."
You sigh and decide to let it go, turning your attention to the mess on the kitchen table instead. He didn't owe you an explanation, especially now that you're not together, but it was still frustrating. He's obviously dealing with something, probably a lot of somethings, and he's too stubborn to admit it. That stubbornness is gonna be the end of him, you swear. It was what ended your relationship. Partially.
"Here, I'll help." Mike fumbles to help you pick up papers and crayons, colored pencils and candles. After a few minutes, it doesn't look like such a disaster.
"Oh, by the way." You pour yourself a cup of coffee, and start to stir in a few spoons of sugar. Too much sugar, for Mike's taste. "Abby's little blue dolphin stuffed animal is invisible to you now, got it? As long as it's in the house, grown-ups can't see it. I think she put it in your room to test you. Just ignore it."
"Is that what you two were doing?" Mike leans back against the counter and scoffs, but makes a mental note to ignore the little dolphin from now one. He'd humor her, if it meant she'd eat her dinner.
"I don't know? I panicked, okay? I had to think of something harmless but still believable and exciting for a little kid."
"And 'invisible stuffed animal' was the best you could think of?"
"This is a warning. Find a new goddamn babysitter or I'm teaching her curses next. And you have to play along."
Mike can't help but smile at that. A real smile.

summary: the small town of hawkins finally hosts their first official farmers market, but it certainly wouldn't be a town affair without some drama and saboteurs.
Tumblr media
You wanted to soak it all in, let it bathe you in the rays of the sunlight, blanketing you in a warmth that you never wanted to forget. The plush of his lips against yours, chest to chest with your hearts beating in synchrony, hands gripping you closer and closer until—
“Rise and shine, lovebirds!”
You groaned, sinking your face deeper into Steve’s chest, pulling the covers over your head in an attempt to go back to the dream that was ebbing away by the second. Steve raised his head off the pillow, staring at the group of children who crowded the end of his bed with shit-eating grins like they had won the lottery.
“Get the heck out!” Steve hissed sharply, eyes going wide, silently telling them all to leave that instant.
The kids clearly didn’t know anything about personal space. The act of knocking on a door or ringing the doorbell was a foreign concept to them. Matter a fact, it was an accurate depiction of what went down yesterday afternoon. And while Steve never minded the kids and their shenanigans, it was the very first time he genuinely wished they had considered minding their own business for his sake.
“Please,” were the last words Steve had whispered to you.
The gap was nearly closed, lips inches away and your eyes fluttering shut letting in the daylight that you were both ready to step into, but that all changed at the clamoring of voices in the distance followed by the creak of the rusty garden gates.
“Holy shit!” They chorused in unison, halting in their tracks seeing you and Steve entangled in each other’s arms in the middle of the pool, closer than you two have ever gotten before.
“Oh, my god!” You shrieked, nearly drifting away from Steve at the shock, trying to keep yourself upright in the deep end.
He seized you, hugging you to his chest where you simultaneously hid your face with its flushed embarrassment in the crook of his neck.
“What the hell are you guys doing here?” Steve barked, staring at them with those eyes that told them all that they really messed up big time.
“We—Mrs. Byers said she was over and we wanted to stop by to say hello!” Dustin stuttered, pointing at you yet feeling regretful for letting himself and his friends in with the memorized padlock code.
“Why didn’t you try the front door!” Steve continued to argue, still clearly agitated at their ambush, torn between showing them out of this backyard or sticking there with you.
Mike tilted his head, evidently unbothered by the situation of invading Steve’s personal space, because in his eyes, the babysitter never needed personal space to begin with.
“We did, but you guys didn’t answer and Max didn’t have a bobby pin on her to pick the lock.” He replied dryly, going over to the loungers to make himself comfortable like nothing even happened.
“B-but we can go! We’ll bike back home and tell mom we’ll see you guys tomorrow,” El’s voice piped up, coated with sincere remorse, quickly snatching Mike’s hand to pull him out of the chair.
Sure, the kids totally interrupted what would have been you and Steve’s first kiss, but they didn’t know that. If they were some sort of fortune tellers that would have known, you were sure they wouldn’t have barged in unexpectedly.
You finally pulled yourself away from the hiding spot in Steve’s collar, looking at the kids with the softest eyes, holding your open hand out towards them causing them to stop in their tracks.
“No — you guys don’t have to go!” You started taking a deep breath to tear your eyes away from them to look at Steve, doing your best to communicate in the silence to which he nodded slowly, mouthing ‘sorry’ to you.
He let out a deep sigh, closing his eyes for a moment to settle his annoyance before opening them and jutting his chin towards the back door.
“Don’t touch anything in the kitchen. That’s all for the bake sale tomorrow. Raid the pantry for all I care, but I’m not cleaning up after you guys!” He shouted and before he could finish the children were racing past the sliding door leaving you both alone only this time graced with their shouts from the inside.
You let out a shaky breath, wincing at how you suddenly became aware of the position you and Steve had been in for quite some time. You met his eyes worriedly, shrinking your shoulders in self consciously.
“I—Did I mess it up?”
His head rocked back and forth without missing a beat, assuring you with a genuine look of sincerity, “Of course not. I meant what I said, you know.”
Steve flashed you a comforting smile, fingers pressing gently into your skin as you relaxed your shoulders.
“We’ll talk about it? Us, I mean… when we’re alone?” He tried hoping you wouldn’t let it end like this.
“Please.” You nodded, running your hands over his shoulder blades, passing each other a hopeful smile for whatever was to come.
Only you and Steve didn’t get any alone time to talk about it.
The teens had spent the afternoon bathing in the sunlight, taking full advantage of Steve’s stocked snack pile and the swimming pool. And by the time you were acting as referee and giggling while they raced across the water, all the initial irritation Steve had felt dissipated — that and the fact that he got to throw Dustin in the water for payback.
But the afternoon had blurred into the night, leaving you and Steve as acting babysitters when they decided they were too tired to bike home and Steve was definitely too tired to drop each of them off. After you all washed yourselves clean of the chlorine and sunscreen, you ordered pizza while Steve set up the new tape in the living room.
It was a rom-com, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, something he thought you both would enjoy with each other, but the kids seemed to like it too — the boys more so tolerating it, preferring to be playing video games in the Wheeler basement, but the girls were thoroughly entertained, you would have been too, if it weren’t for the fatigue dragging your eyelids shut.
You and Steve were practically smushed together on the couch, your legs thrown across his lap and your cheek pressed to his bicep. His hand kneading the skin from your shin to your knee, bringing you closer to sleep despite the loud talking from the kids.
Steve had noticed your quietness, peering down at you and seeing the state you were in — eyes shut as soft snores left your mouth, your hands hugging yourself acting as a blanket.
“Sweetheart,” He tried, wiggling his shoulder a bit to see if you’d wake up, but to no avail you remained glued to his side.
“C’mon,” He carefully positioned one of his arms under your legs while the other cradled your head, “Let’s get you to bed.” He murmured quietly, slowly standing up from the couch with you in his arms.
He turned back, looking at the kids whose attention was on you two now. They weren’t surprised to say the least, considering the position you two were in just a couple of hours ago, but they just wondered what was taking you both so long to finally put a label on it.
“You guys make sure you clean up and turn off the TV when it’s finished. We got an early day tomorrow, alright?”
They nodded, waving and whispering their goodnights as he walked up the stairs and to his bedroom. Using his elbow, he nudged the lights on, padding to his bed and laying you gently on the mattress, before gathering the blankets and pulling them over your shoulders.
You shuffle, instinctively closer to the opposite side of the bed to make space for him as you lifted your arms from beneath the covers, making weak grabby hands at him. He chuckled, taking hold of them and winding his fingers between yours that instantly gave him a feeble squeeze.
“I’ll stay okay?” He promised, letting go and tucking your hands back underneath the covers before he went to switch off the lights and take his spot beside you.
And like second nature you settled into his side and he pulled you in a little closer — sleep came easy and he wanted to savor the feeling and bottle it up for those lonely nights he spent tossing and turning he was sure were long gone by now. All there was left was you and him, and he’d be forever grateful to spend every night in his bed with you, even in the aura of his empty house.
Dustin sauntered over to the windows, seeing as though you and Steve were making no plans to actually get up and get going. He swiped the curtains back, letting in more of the sunlight, smiling to himself as you began moving around under the covers and Steve rubbed at his eyes — surely you both were awake now.
“It’s almost 8 and we’re supposed to be at Hawkins Square at 9.” Dustin crossed his arms over his chest, tapping his foot against the floors like some kind of parental figure, if Steve wasn’t so tired, he’d poke a little fun at how he was sorta taking after him.
But instead he sat up on his elbows, staring at the kid ridiculously, finger pointing towards the door, “Out.”
Max smirked, walking over to her friend and leading him away by tugging on his sleeve and urging the rest of her friends to follow along and leave you two alone.
“Cut him some slack and let him cuddle with his girl for a few more minutes.” She snickered, not missing the sight of Steve’s cheeks flushing.
Dustin gripped the doorframe, fingers slipping weakly as Max gave him another keen tug, pulling the door handle with her as Dustin shouted out quickly.
“Nance said she’s coming over in fifteen to pick up some stuff, so you better be up!”
The door slammed shut, jolting your half awake self fully up this time. Steve let out a deep breath, falling back against the mattress, apologetically whispering out to you as he closed the space once again.
You twisted in the sheets, throwing one of your arms across his back to tug yourself closer into his chest while the other lifted the blankets off your head from where you were hiding.
Despite the rude awakening, you were sure you could fall right back asleep from the warmth radiating off of Steve alone. He had that effect, the ability to be your personal sanctuary even in the midst of the chaos. While the idea of letting you drift back into dreamland was sweet enough as lying there beside you, he couldn’t possibly let you two run late.
“Cupcake,” He whispered, a warm hand moving down to massage your collarbone gently to spur you awake, “we gotta get up.”
Your fingers threaded into the material of his t-shirt, grabbing him tenderly as a sleepy whine knitted with your mumbling poured out, “Ten more minutes?”
His chest rumbled beneath you with a laugh, “Sorry honey, but we can’t. Nancy is dropping by in a bit to pick up some stuff.”
Taking in a deep breath, you took him in. The smell of his laundry detergent and body wash filling your nostrils. The mix of the two and the knowing that Steve was still there beside you, enough to wake your bones up and want to spend the rest of the day with him and your friends.
“Mmmm,” You pulled away, stretching your arms out, yawning for a few seconds as he watched you, until your eyes opened and met his.
“Morning.” You greeted with a tired smile, blinking your eyes again trying to rid them of the sleepiness.
“Hey sweet thing,” He scooted back against his headboard, patting his chest, motioning for you to lay your head there because at the very least he could spare just five more minutes savoring the morning with you.
You got comfortable, looking up at him through your lashes, fingers mindlessly tracing fingers over his shirt, just enjoying the sight that seemed to be a special rarity now. Waking up in Steve’s bed was certainly not something you had grown accustomed to, but it was a nice feeling. Knowing that he had fallen asleep beside you, dreamt along with you, and now lay awake with you in his arms – a special kind of intimacy he saved for you.
“Did I fall asleep?” You didn’t remember coming up to Steve’s bedroom by yourself let alone finishing the movie last night.
He hummed, his fingers a mirror to yours, moving over your shoulders affectionately, “A little less than halfway through the movie, then I carried you up here. The kids crashed in the living room.”
A warm smile spread across your features, always swooned by Steve’s consideration even when at this point you shouldn’t expect anything less of him. Trailing your fingers away from his midsection, you walked them up his collarbones, fingers thumbing the freckles on his chin that you were just admiring yesterday afternoon.
“You’re too sweet to me.” You let your touch stay on him without worry, doing everything besides meeting his eyes, too enamored by the beauty marks you had come to adore.
“I always will be,” His eyes glazed over with affection that not even words could describe.
Yet if there was the time, he would try to do it, to tell you how much he adored you and finally muster up the strength to let all his feelings loose. But despite how tempting that idea was, he knew it wasn’t the right time for it.
The kids would probably burst in at any given moment to get you both up again or worse, Nancy would already be downstairs shouting at the poor use of time given the special day.
“Do you wanna get dibs on the bathroom first?” Steve suggested, hoping it didn’t seem like he was purposefully steering the conversation elsewhere.
You nodded, sitting up to stretch your arms wide with another yawn. “Just to brush my teeth, then you can get ready first. I’ll get the kids fed and the stuff ready for Nance.” You threw the covers off and let your feet hit the wooden floorboards.
He watched you gather your things while he began making his bed, pulling the sheets up and straightening it out.
“You sure? Usually they’re a lot in the morning.”
“Take a break for once, yeah?” You reminded him with a tsk, “Isn’t that what you’ve been telling me?”
He mocked out a laugh, shooing you out the room as you giggled and shut the door behind you.
You took the bathroom first, brushing your teeth and combing your fingers through your hair just to get it to look somewhat put together before you actually had the chance to get ready for the day. As you exited the bathroom, you knocked on his door, signaling his turn before you jogged down the stairs, pleasantly surprised to see it so tidy without any reminder.
The blankets were folded and stacked on one end of the couch, as the other had a pile of pillows. The candy wrappers that littered the coffee table were no longer there and the tape that Steve picked was already back in its case ready to be returned.
You could hear their voices coming from the kitchen, groans and complaints echoing through the house as you rounded the doorway, quietly watching the scene before you with a self-indulgent smile.
Domestic chaos, as each of them called out different pantry items hoping everyone had an idea of what to make — just tired, hungry teenagers craving a proper meal to get them through the day.
“Good morning squirrels,” you chirped, finally making your presence known as you crossed the boundary into the kitchen.
“Morning,” they chorused, relieved looks washing over their faces knowing you’d be there to save their Saturday morning.
“Hungry?” You lovingly ruffled their heads as they made way for you to get into the fridge.
“We’re starving! But Steve said we aren’t allowed to eat any of the stuff for the bake sale, and Dustin and Mike ate all the pizza while we were sleeping.” Lucas shot the pair a glare.
“We did ask you if you wanted a slice.” Mike defended, nudging the curly-headed boy who agreed.
“It was one in the morning, Michael.”
You shook your head, amused at their silly banter that continued while you opened the fridge, scoping out what you could whip up in a limited amount of time but still give them enough energy throughout the busy day.
There were a few eggs left in the carton and more than enough tangerines to go around, plus a half bag of white bread that was going to go stale in a few days. You took the ingredients out, laying them on the counters as you turned to the kids and rubbed your hands together.
“Why don’t I whip something up, huh? You guys can go watch TV in the living room while you wait or you guys can stay and help if you’d like.”
You waited less than a second, fully prepared to see them rush the television, but instead they stood in their places, nodding and waiting for you to give them instructions on what to do. Surely enough, the kids didn’t like the idea of knocking on doors or ringing doorbells, but they did know how to lend a helping hand, making up for it all.
Soon the kitchen was filled with their voices, talking up a storm even in the early morning hours as you stood over the stove, trying to recreate Steve’s famous scrambled eggs all while listening to their teenage updates on life.
Will and Max juiced the remaining tangerines, sticky fingers squeezing it until the pulp gave out and the pitcher was filled nearly to the brim.
Lucas was sharing his own recipe, guiding El step by step as put the slices of bread slathered with butter and a good shaking of cinnamon into the toaster oven, making an easy and delicious cinnamon bread concoction.
Dustin and Mike set the table but of course not without a little more bickering, one wanting to use paper plates to reduce the dishes to be washed and the other wanting to use the ceramics because it wasn’t everyday they got to eat a fancy breakfast, even if it was just scrambled eggs and cinnamon toast.
Rest assured, you ironed away Mike’s worries about the dishwashing task, telling him you’d wash and let them air dry while you and Steve were gone. For the past week you’d been doing dishes nonstop and a few more wouldn’t hurt, plus you were starting to feel some muscle grow after all that scrubbing.
The glasses were filled with ice and juice, plates served with a good helping of eggs and one and a half slices of cinnamon bread. They finally took their seats, a little cramped together, but nonetheless they dug in.
“Eat up.”
You knew that the boys had been close to one another ever since childhood and it wasn’t until middle school that El and Max had entered the picture, but even through all the phases that came with growing up, it warmed your heart to see them still be fully involved with each other’s lives.
El chewed up her food, looked over her shoulder at you before she spoke happily, “The cupcakes look yummy!” she praised, having seen it in the fridge when she chilled the pitcher.
“Steve frosted them! He's a total natural at it if you ask me.” You winked.
The kids looked at you torn between surprise and speculation that he actually did a decent job on them with zero prior experience.
“Well, I bet they taste delicious.” Will said, knowing that there wasn’t anything their babysitter couldn’t do.
“After everything gets set up, I’ll let you guys pick some freebies alright?” You offered, and they all nodded, mumbling out a “thanks,” in advance.
In the meantime, you shuffled around the kitchen, gathering spare brown bags and loading them up with the scones and cookies so Nancy could take them to the event ahead of time. You made sure to jot down the ingredients for each of the goods on index cards just in case any customers were curious or had allergies.
The kids ate with some comfortable chatter while you were busy before Dustin cleared his throat, catching your eyes as you placed the full bags near the doorway.
“So you and Steve, huh?” He smirked, wiggling his brows teasingly while he rested his elbows on the table as if he was getting down to business.
You groaned, rolling your eyes as you brushed past the table and headed for the sink. “I’m so not talking to teenagers about my love life.”
He tsk’ed loudly, “Why not? I give the best advice! When Suzie and I got together, I did all the right things and made her swoon.” He bragged before the red head cut in abruptly.
Max furrowed her brows, turning to him.
“Didn’t she just break up with you because you didn’t call for a week?”
His friends looked at him, eyes being able to see through the facade that Dustin was the most perfect boyfriend out of all of them.
“That doesn’t count! No one would take me to weather top and it’s way too hot to hike up there with everything all by myself.” He argued as everyone else uttered their disagreements and shook their heads.
You snorted, shaking your head at the boy as you dried your hands.
“Well, I’m happy for you and Suz, but I think Steve and I got our thing handled.” You assured him, giving his shoulder a pat.
“Oh, it’s more than handled. We just were waiting for you two to finally make a move on each other.” Mike piped in, chugging the rest of his juice.
Lucas jumped in not long after, huffing dramatically as he spoke, “I mean first the crushing, then the pining, and then the yearning… god you guys took forever!”
El, with her ever so cheery voice, bursted with a wide smile, looking at you kindly. “Well, I’m glad it finally happened. You and Steve are perfect for each other and make an even more perfect couple!”
Perhaps it didn’t hit you until the word fell out of her mouth… couple, and when it did, it hit you like a ton of bricks. The topic alone wasn’t something that you and Steve even got to properly talk about — it was just hanging in the air waiting for you or Steve to snatch and finally discuss.
In the eyes of the teenagers and even the rest of the gang, you and Steve already did the couple-y things. Spending the night at each other’s places, gushing about each other even when the other wasn’t around, shy touches that you suspected no one else could catch, and being around each other every chance you got.
The thoughts alone nearly sucked you in completely, not even aware of how Mike and Dustin argued over the fact that Steve hadn’t even asked you out yet. It was only when the doorbell began ringing through the house that you were suddenly aware of everything.
You shuffled on your feet, choosing to ignore the children and their nonsense as you went to get the door. Swinging it open, you smiled from ear to ear, already engulfing the person on the other side into the biggest hug.
“Nance!”
“Oh, I really needed this!” She exhaled, smiling into your neck where she hugged you just as tight, “Thank you again for helping out.”
“It’s no problem, plus, it wasn’t so much work with Steve helping me. Have you eaten?” You asked, raising your brow.
“No, I’ve been busy around, calling and checking in with the other booths—"
You stopped her, reaching for her wrist.
“How about you come in and get some food before you head off, yeah?”
She smiled thankfully, following your lead as you pulled her inside and closed the door behind her, waiting as she unlaced her shoes and walked with you to the kitchen.
Thankfully, the kids had moved on from their conversation about you and Steve, somehow now talking about the movie they had watched yesterday. You really didn’t want to tell Nancy about it with them all around — eventually you’d tell her, but preferably when they weren’t around to hear all the details.
“Everyone say good morning to Nance! It’s a big day for her and she’s going to do amazing!”
You rubbed her shoulders, kissing her cheek playfully as she laughed and leaned into you.
“C’mon and eat.” Max gestured her over, scooting onto El’s chair as they made more room at the table.
Nance nudged her brother, raising her brow at him. “You didn’t tell me you guys were spending the night here.”
“It wasn’t the plan, but we were too lazy to bike home. I called mom, and she said it was fine.”
Her eyes darted to yours with a questioning look, “They didn’t give you any trouble, right?”
You shook your head, looking around at all of them who half expected you to bring up the little afternoon incident.
“None at all… just making me feel old.” You joked, watching as they all eased up and laughed.
After a while, the kids had finished their helpings, beginning to stack the plates and cups taking it over to the sink before you assured them they all helped enough and you could handle one more load of dishes before you’d be clocking out for the next week.
Nancy hummed, reaching into her purse and finishing out the keys, tossing it over to Max.
“Why don’t you guys load up the car and while you’re at it, load yourselves up too because I need some extra hands.”
Their groans of protests about wanting to ride with you and Steve to the event were ignored as Nancy shooed them off. You flashed them all an encouraging smile, watching as they picked up the bags you prepped and waved goodbye before they were all out the front door.
When you heard it shut, you immediately darted over to Nancy, taking the empty seat beside her as you screeched as quietly as you could and reached for her hand, grasping it with a tight squeeze.
“Okay, what’s going on?” Her eyes went wide, promptly setting down her fork as she jostled your held hands in the air.
Your eyes were pressed shut, cheeks raised with a smile, “Steve and I… we almost kissed!”
She clasped her free hand over her mouth, squealing behind it.
“Oh, my gosh! Tell me everything!” She spoke, flapping her hands with you as you both began to excitedly slap each other.
“Well, we were in the pool and we just kinda admitted our feelings and,” You paused, looking out the doorway checking to see if Steve was coming down, “I—I was about to kiss him but then the kids kinda barged in.”
“Those little shits,” Nance shook her head knowing they were always up to some kind of trouble.
“But it was fine! Everything was fine between us and nothing felt awkward, you know? I mean we slept in the same bed and woke up next to each other, so I’m sure we’re on the same page.”
“Wait, you guys haven’t talked about it since then?”
You stared at her blankly, slowly nodding your head as your lip got caught between your teeth, gnawing on the skin nervously.
“We said we would when we got some time alone, but then we got busy with the kids and then I fell asleep before we could talk about it and then when we woke up this morning we really didn’t have enough time.” You blabbered nervously.
She nodded understandingly – relationship stuff was always tricky especially when it was fresh and you both were figuring it out. The same thing happened with her and Jonathan when they first got together, the anxiousness and worrying about every little thing.
But she knew that you and Steve would figure it out eventually. From the looks of it alone, you both harbored the same feelings even from the very beginning when you thought you’d both just be friends.
“Don’t get too in your head,” she reassured you simply, prompting you to release the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
“Trust your feelings and go for it.”
You would have hugged her a little long if it weren’t for the horn sounding off from the driveway. The impatient kids debated on letting Max drive them to Hawkins Square if Nancy didn’t wrap it up and hurry. Waving goodbye and watching the car skirt out of the driveway, you found your way back to the kitchen tidying up as you waited for Steve.
Resting against the counters, when you picked up on the footsteps jogging down the stairs before he came through the doorway sporting a pair of medium wash jeans and a classic polo — you were sure he had a hundred colorways and still he made all of them look good.
“Where’d they go?” He frowned, peeking past the back sliding doors to see if they were outside causing a ruckus again.
“Nancy recruited their help.” You waved him over to you.
He came swiftly, letting his arms rest on either side of the counter, caging you in close. There was a pleasant domesticity to it, something Steve wished he could feel every day, whether it was on weekends like this or busy mornings where he didn’t care to know better.
Your eyes moved to the little piece of hair dangling in the middle of his forehead, straying away from the rest. Carefully, you pushed it back, running your finger gently through to make sure it stayed put for the rest of the day.
“That’s better,” you cooed, patting his cheek with a soft tap, feeling his skin rise with laughter.
“Have you eaten yet?” He suspected, looking over at the table that was severely lacking in food.
“Without you?” You lifted your brows, before shaking your head, “Of course not.”
Steve chuckled, stepping back while you shuffled away.
“You made eggs,” He blurted, reaching for the pan that sat on the stove with a few pieces of eggs left.
“They’re not as good as yours.” You complained with a dramatic whine, and Steve grinned, popping a piece of it into his mouth with a hum.
“I’ll have the rest of this and then I’ll make you some, alright?”
You clapped your hands victoriously, as if scrambled eggs made by Steve Harrington was the best prize of them all.
“You’re the best! Mind if I shower real quick?”
“Yeah, go ahead. I left a clean towel on the rack for you.”
You raced up the stairs, hurrying because you didn’t want Steve waiting on you but also you knew you had to get to the town square to finish setting up. Your bag sat on his desk chair, and you rummaged through it, pulling out the floral slip you packed and the extra intimates.
You cranked the water to warm, stepping in and letting the water slide across your body. His products were already akin to your skin, the familiar scent of Steve slipping across the slopes and valleys of your body before you rinsed the suds off.
Getting out of the shower, you quickly patted yourself dry, getting your skin care products on your face before the moisture was lost. You didn’t pay too much attention to your makeup, settling for some concealer to hide a few blemishes and the bags under your eyes. You swept a dusty pink shade over your cheeks and dabbed the excess over your lips for a cohesive look.
You opened the door, letting the fresh air cool your skin, walking across to Steve's room to put everything away and chucking your dirty clothes into the hamper along with his. Checking yourself one more time in the mirror, you pulled your dry hair from the bun, fluffing it at the roots and sleeking them at the ends before you were out and back down the stairs into the kitchen.
A plate of streaming scrambled eggs sat steaming on a fresh plate right beside his. He had already portioned out the remainder of the food for you both, getting rid of the extra dishes that were now cleaned and air drying in the rack.
Steve sensed you, looking over his shoulder as you twiddle your fingers at him from the doorway. He stopped his movements and turned around fully to get a good look at you before stepping forward.
“You look beautiful.” He complimented charmingly, fingers coming down to your shoulder, adjusting the strap of your dress that was slipping.
You looked down at yourself, smoothing out the fabric and then meeting his again.
“So do you… sorry I didn’t say it earlier! I got so caught up.” You laughed faintly, shaking your head.
“Can I be beautiful?” He pondered, head tilting.
“Like an angel.” You promised, bopping his nose with your finger as he chuckled, grabbing at your wrist and tugging you to the table to sit beside him.
The two of you began digging in, and while most of it was cold by then, neither of you cared too much. Breakfast was slowly becoming both of your favorite meals to share with one another, whether it was from Taylor’s or scraps of leftovers.
“Are you excited for today?” He broke the comfortable silence, watching you take a bite out of the eggs.
“Very, but I’m just a teeny bit nervous.” You scrunched your nose, fingers pinching just a tad.
“Care to share?”
“I just hope people like the sweets and I also hope they like the paintings, I mean they’re the ones that never really sold, so I figured I’d give it a shot here and if not they can go to the salvation army—”
“Don’t say that,” Steve interjected with a shake of his head.
“You’re right, maybe I should give them out for free—”
“Not that,” He leaned into you with a grunt, smiling stupidly as he heard you squeal and weakly push against his weight.
“They’re special, each and every single one of them, and if they don’t sell, it’s not your fault. They don’t get how special your art is.” He reasoned, letting up on your shoulder whilst he grabbed ahold of your hand.
Without even thinking, your fingers laced through his, pulses in your fingertips beating off one another while you stared at each other like fools in love. There was that out of the blue kind of fondness again, the one that neither one of you could escape.
“I feel as though you were a poet in your past life.” You ran your thumb against his skin.
“Really?” He curled his lips up — he’s been called an idiot that could barely hold onto a job that was slinging ice cream, yet there you were making him rethink career paths just so he could tell you everything he loved about you.
“Everything you say is so sweet and earnest.”
“Earnest?”
“Heartfelt!” you chirped happily, watching the berry pink hue coat his cheeks bashfully.
You didn’t dare look away, and he didn’t plan on hiding his blush, more than comfortably showing you that it was you who got him like this – only you.
“Always when I’m with you.” He settled softly, bringing your clasped hands to his lips with a chaste kiss.
For a second, it was the closest thing to your heart exploding… then you remembered the almost kiss that was a definite heart stopper.
It happened once every few lifetimes, this kind of feeling Steve couldn’t shake for you. Years ago, he thought that moment slipped from his grasp, yet maybe all of this time — all those failed feats of searching for his other half was meant to glitch because there you were in front of him and all he ever wanted to look at forevermore was you.
The paths that had been crossed and all the stars that aligned caused a cosmic shift where you both finally intertwined and ended up here. You weren’t just a phantom of his imagination that he thought up and longed for. It was really the person sitting in front of him that was all he ever wished for and he swore that this was that once in every lifetime feeling he wasn’t going to let slip.
His quietness wasn’t anything new, you had gotten used to the pleasant silence that came between you and Steve, but you couldn’t ignore the way his eyes were boring into your skin as you finished up your breakfast while his sat half finished.
You set down your fork, reaching for a napkin to wipe over your mouth.
“You feeling okay?” You mumbled, raising your brow toward him, watching his glazed over features come to.
He blinked wildly, nodding his head with a hum, “Oh, yeah! Sorry, I just—just love having you here.” He confessed sheepishly.
You pursed your lips into a smile you couldn’t control and then you were throwing your head back laughing too enamored by his charm.
“I love that you let me stick around this long.” You caught your breath, shaking your head at him ridiculously.
“Stick around forever.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
Steve furrowed his brows, crossing his arms across his chest and leaning back in the chair wearing a playful smirk.
“Best one I think I’ve ever thought up.”
Maybe it was that new found confidence or maybe it was you being done acting too impaired by fear that you opened your mouth, and went for what was lingering – the one thing you needed reassurance from.
“S-should we talk about…yesterday?” You coughed awkwardly, instantly cringing and regretting, letting it fall out of your mouth the way it did.
“Hey, don’t do that,” He reached for your hand, rubbing his palm over the top of yours, “I’ve been wanting to talk about it, but the kids kinda had to ruin the moment and all.”
“I think their timing is just a little off sometimes.” You said trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
He laughed shortly, before drawing your body closer to his. Knees knocking and thighs side by side — a skin to skin contact that felt almost reminiscent of yesterday's events, starting back up where you had left off.
“I meant every word I said, you know, about how you could never mess things up between us.”
Still you worried, biting down on your lip, gnawing restlessly on the skin, “But what if I do, like, accidentally?”
“Accidents happen all the time. You just gotta learn how to work through them and see it through.” He shrugged slightly, keeping his tone gentle.
“Are you always going to be this encouraging?” You sighed dramatically, halting your assault on your lip trying to lighten the mood.
“If I say yes, will you finally realize that I’m just as scared as you are about messing things up?”
Your eyes went wide, rocking your head side to side, finger poking into his chest.
“You have nothing to worry about! You’re like… so effortless. You make it look so easy and I’m just, I don’t know,” You shrugged reluctantly, “A mess?”
“You don’t think I’m screaming inside, nervous that I’m looking like a complete idiot in front of you?” He retorted, comically gesturing at himself.
“You could never look like an idiot in front of me!” you gasped, slapping his arm lightly, as you were wide eyed giggling.
“See, just like you could never be a mess to me!” He was half laughing and smiling then, motioning between the two of you.
You closed your eyes, sucking in a deep breath because you knew he was right. Nervousness was never one sided even for someone who was as suave as Steve Harrington.
“I meant that, every part of it. You don’t have to worry about making a fool out of yourself in front of me or being afraid you’re gonna mess anything up.” He spoke.
“If anything… we could give it a try? Mess it up together?” He offered with a dimpled smile, bringing his hand to glide across your cheek holding you to him.
“Together?” Your cheek rose against his palm, a smile too genuine to play off as shy watching him nod.
“Yeah, if you want to take a chance on me,” He murmured, inching his face closer to yours.
“I’d take all of them.” You whispered, your heart pounding as you leaned in.
The moment was too perfect — a cage left undisrupted, the sanctuary it became as it was all you two had ever wanted. Just as your lips were about to touch, of course, the cage was rattled. A loud ring resounding from the living room, causing the both of you to flinch and snap your necks in its direction.
“Goddamnit!” Steve groaned, throwing his head back baffled, as the ringing continued to pitch through the house.
“I think we’re cursed.” You sighed, burying your face behind your hands, shaking your head in between a laugh and a groan.
The wooden chair screeched against the tiles as Steve stood up, running a hand over your shoulder as passed by.
“I told you, we’re not the ones messing it up, it’s everyone else!” He called out.
You couldn’t make out who was on the other side of the phone, but you could hear the faint voice as Steve let out a string of “uh-huh’s,” and “okay’s.” It was a few seconds more of that until Steve said goodbye and placed the phone back on the receiver.
“Who was it?”
“Robin,” He replied with a huff, “Apparently she needs us there ASAP or else she’s gonna lose her mind because Nance is hounding everyone.”
You nodded, rubbing your hands over your knees, “We should go then.”
You stood up, going to gather the plates in a stack, but the gentle pull on your elbow stopped you and forced you to twist right into Steve’s chest, face-to-face breath fanning against each other until he spoke under his breath.
“I’ve been dying to kiss you for a while now,” He admitted, letting his eyes fall from your orbs to your lips back up to your eyes.
“R-really?” You swallowed, licking over your nearly raw skin, only then noticing his dilated pupils drinking you in.
He nodded, before that charming smile came to play with his hunger, “Yeah, and I’m gonna make sure when I do, we don’t need to rush.”
“I’m counting on you.”
Tumblr media
Steve of course offered to let you drive, dangling his keys from his finger after you both finished loading up the car but you had turned down his offer, claiming it was his turn to take you out on a spin and who was he to deny you that reward after all the hard work you put into it?
His hand lingered on your knee and your fingers ran across his forearm as he drove through town. Music low and windows down, coasting down the roads that you never thought would lead you to him. Before you knew it, Steve had turned into the center of town, grabbing a free parking space right between Eddie's van and Mrs. Byer’s Ford Pinto. The sun was beaming past the windshield, nearly blinding you and Steve as you quickly lowered the visors and began unbuckling.
The two of you had failed to notice the running figure approaching the car until a knock sounded on the hood prompting you and him to see Robin standing there with her hands on her hips waiting around for you both to hurry.
“It’s gonna be a long day,” Steve exhaled with a weak laugh.
“We’ll get through it.” You tapped his thigh and unlocked the door to get the show on the road.
“Finally!” Robin shouted, skipping over to your side. “Nancy is driving all of us crazy!” She wrapped her arms around you in a hug as you did the same, rocking your bodies back and forth.
“She’s just stressed, Ro. This is a huge deal for her and she probably wants it to be perfect.” You attempted to console her, rubbing a comforting hand over the middle of her back.
“Where is she, anyway?” Steve looked around surprisingly not seeing her near the large cluster of tents and people setting up.
Robin waved her hands in the air absentmindedly, opening the backdoors to help you grab the rest of the things from Steve’s car. “She’s somewhere around here bugging someone else, trust me.”
You and Steve shook your heads, retrieving the rest of the bags of treats while Robin waited around carrying the crate of painting before the three of you walked through the parking lot into the grass area where a bunch of tents were being set up. Nancy was able to get a handful of local businesses like Miss. Driscoll’s Flower Shop and Benny’s Burger to participate — even residents who just wanted to pitch in to help and support their town’s brick and mortar.
Robin jutted her chin out towards the group of pavilions smack dab in the middle of the square patch.
“Your booth is over there.”
She led you to the area that Nancy deliberately set aside for you in order to give you ample space where you wouldn’t feel cramped between the others when it got busier in the day.
Fold out tables were placed towards the front and on the sides of the tent. El and Max smoothing out the pale yellow covers over them as Mike tied off the ends that flooded too long on the ground.
“What’s with the ladder?” You squinted, catching sight of Lucas climbing up with a roll of tarp in his hands while Will and Dustin held steps still from the bottom.
“It’s a surprise.” Robin’s voice leaking with glee that she was trying to suppress all the while the boy unraveled the tarp and hooked it over the screws.
“A surprise?” You furrowed your brows at her, bemused.
You expected some explanation, but all she did was giggle to herself, biting down on her lip in an attempt to keep it a secret for just five more seconds until you looked up and saw it for yourself.
“No way!” Steve exclaimed, laughing infectiously, catching your attention.
Your name was written in whimsical cursive letters, decorated with doodles that the children associated with you: sunshine, hearts, bumble bees, sparkles, and everything in between adorably cute.
“You did this?!” you blurted, setting down the bags with a thud while you lifted a hand to block the glare of the sun in order to get another glimpse of the banner.
“We did! We spent all of last week working on it.” Lucas bursted, hopping down from the ladder to get a good look at it himself.
The kids flocked around you, proudly peering up at their creation that they worked tirelessly on, just finishing it the day before, which is why they had crashed Harrington’s place with such excitement — barely keeping it a secret in time for today… thankfully their unmatched timing had their lips sealed for the perfect reparation gift.
“You guys!” You pouted sweetly, holding your arms out to all of them, prompting them to walk into your embrace.
“We wanted to surprise you with it and it was so hard to keep under wraps, but we knew it would be worth it.” Will smiled at you as you ruffled his hair.
“Are you kidding me?! This is the most amazing thing ever. Thank you guys for doing it.” You said again, making sure to place a peck on their temples.
You spun around, eyeing Steve and pointing at him with an accusatory finger. “Did you know about this?”
He rocked back on his heels, neither confirming nor denying, “I did begin to get a little suspicious as to why they were covered in paint for two weekends in a row.”
“I guess their timing isn’t bad after all… they’re just too sweet to me.” You moped towards Steve, puppy-dog eyes staring at him like they could do no wrong as he took your shoulders into his hands.
“And now you’re wrapped around their pinkies again,” he murmured with a chuckle, slinging his arm around your frame and walking you both into the booth. “C’mon let’s go set up before Nance goes crazy on us next.”
He helped organize all the baked goods, making sure to keep anything with frosting away from direct sunlight and instead on the bed of ice that Jonathan had dropped off before scurrying away with a mutter that Nancy needed him somewhere else.
Max and Dustin got the cookies laid out in a presentable manner as El and Lucas gave them pointers from the front view of the booth. You and Mike worked together, laying out the fresh canvases on the opposite side of the booth, and Mike pitched in to hang a few canvases on the posts of the tent for display.
It all was coming together, and you were in awe looking around at what Nancy was able to put together for her beloved town. For a first time local farmers’ market, it looked as if Hawkins had done this a million times before and you were sure this was just the beginning. You’d be lucky if Nancy asked you to come back and help out again, and even then, there was no chance you would be saying no.
“Can we grab our freebies now?” Dustin tapped your shoulder.
“Pick whatever you guys want! You deserve it for all the help you’ve given, and that cute banner.” You said warmly, smiling as they all went for their pick.
Steve stuck by your side, snickering when the kids struggled to pick what they wanted, as if you wouldn’t let them grab more freebies throughout the day because he knew you most certainly would. In the end, every kid picked something different and shared it with each other so they all got a taste of the delicious creations you had spent days whipping up.
“Hey, you,” Eddie whistled, knocking his fist into the post of the stall to get your attention from where you were folding up all the extra bags that were emptied.
“Eddie! Oh my gosh, I felt like I haven’t seen you in forever.” You walked around the booth, going to greet him with a proper hug.
“That’s because Steve’s been hogging you from all of us.” He teased, giving his friend a wink who rolled his eyes behind you.
“I have not been hogging her,” Steve retorted, resting his hands on his hips, pointing at the outline of the cigarette box in Eddie’s pocket, “It’s not my fault she doesn’t like the smell of smoke.”
You scowled playfully towards Steve, turning your attention back to your friend and rubbing his arm kindly.
“He’s kidding, but you know I’m always concerned about your lungs.” You sulked, cringing at the thought of Eddie getting sick because of those cancer sticks.
“I tried telling him that too, hon, but he’s just as stubborn as his mother.”
An older man rumbled beside him, knocking his shoulders with a punch as Eddie chuckled, and gestured to him. He was as tall as Eddie, sporting a salt and pepper beard — if you squinted hard enough, he had some resemblance to Eddie, except the lack of curly hair.
“That’s my uncle Wayne.” He grinned, waving him over to you.
“Nice to meet you!” You held your arms wide, greeting him with a friendly hug.
“Nice to meet you, honey. My nephew said you got a car that needs to be looked at? He suspected curiously.
You nodded eagerly, watching as Eddie and Wayne darted their eyes to the parking lot, trying to spot your car through the bustle.
“Well, it’s not here right now. It’s actually back in Roane, but it’s been giving me a little bit of trouble. It’s making some sort of rumbling noise, and I don’t know if it’s the engine or something else.” You said with a slight tilt of your head, hoping you were making sense with your limited knowledge of cars.
“Could be something with the exhaust.” Wayne scratched his head, looking towards his nephew.
Eddie tilted his head, tapping his foot against the grass before there was a snap of his fingers. “Or it might be out of alignment.”
The two men made noises of agreement, still trying to think up what could be wrong despite not having the car there to access for themselves.
Wayne threw his hands down to his sides, looking over at you when he extended a kind offer.
“Why don’t you let us take a look at it? I work part time at the shop and Eddie has a shift there sometime next week. We can work you in then.”
You twiddled your fingers together excitedly. “Oh, that’s perfect. Thank you so much! Here, I’ll give you my number so that you can call me when to come down.”
You motioned for Eddie to follow you into the boot, ripping off a scrap piece of a brown bag and searching for a writing utensil to jot down your number for him. Steve and Wayne had striked up talking, catching up and making jokes about how sorry he was that his tapes were probably way past the return dates because he had no time after working two jobs and barely any sleep to stop by the store.
You scribbled down your phone number, folding it up and watching as Eddie slipped it into his pocket before he took his turn and wrote down the direction of the shop ahead of time.
“You baked all this stuff yourself.” Wayne called out fingers skimming over the packaged cookies and other treats.
Steve stood with a proud smile, nodding his head, “From scratch and all by herself.” Wayne flashing you an impressive nod.
“I really couldn’t have done it without Steve’s help, though.” You nudged him from across the table — Eddie and his uncle not missing the sweetness that lingered through your adoring eyes for Steve.
“Mind if I buy a few things already, or do I gotta wait until this whole thing actually gets started?” Wayne said, already moving to get out his wallet.
You shook your head, hands held out declining the bills he held out to you.
“First dibs on whatever you want, and it’s on me!”
“No, I couldn’t let you give it to me for free.”
“It’s no problem, really. You taking the time to come down here to ask about my car was enough!”
Wayne settled on a baggie of chocolate chip cookies and, after hearing that Steve had frosted the cupcakes, he couldn’t turn down a raspberry hibiscus one. It wasn’t long after his praise that he told you he’d try to stop by to pick up more treats later the day, before he excused himself to go check out the other booths for who needed help to set up.
Everything looked to be coming together — more booths pitching up their tents and getting set up with all their goods and tarps of their own. Coincidentally, Vickie’s lemonade stand was directly across from yours, giving you and Steve a front row view of how giggly she and Robin were as they prepped for opening — you definitely had to catch up with her when you got the chance.
Steve rubbed his hands together, scanning your booth in search of a task to steal from you, but all that was left was to wait until people were allowed in to start shopping. You were straightening out all the treats, doing last-minute touches to make sure everything looked perfect, even creating a small space where the cash would be handled.
Steve lingered beside you, tsking at you being on your feet all day, “Do you need anything? I could get you a chair to sit on. I mean I don’t have one on me right now, but I can find Nancy and ask?”
He peered past the booth, looking around, hoping to spot her or Jonathan running around somewhere.
“I’m okay, Stevie, but thank—”
Eddie clicked his tongue noisily, cutting you off guard, when he sauntered over to his friend with a grin.
“Ah, ever the gentleman you are, but I actually need some help,” He threw his arm over Steve’s shoulders, eliciting a groan, hating how the leather jacket clung to his neck in the heat.
“Nancy put me in charge of helping Miss. Driscoll unload all her flower pots, but I don’t want to do it alone. You know she gets all talkative about her plants, and I need a way out.”
“Why don’t you ask one of the twerps for help?” Steve reasoned toward the kids who looked minutes away from a sugar rush.
“I was thinking of it, but considering she’s been hogging you, I think you owe your friend a hand.” Eddie half joked, glaring at you.
“I have not been hogging him, Eddie!” You gasped, wagging a finger in the air.
“Whatever you say, sugar. Don’t worry, we won’t be long.” Eddie whistled, dragging his friend along with him.
“I’ll be back in a bit!” Steve shouted over his shoulder, heading a few booths down to Miss. Driscoll’s booth.

By noon, the farmers’ market was swarming with more and more people, hoards of families walking around Hawkins Square and taking the time to enjoy all the booths and each other’s company on a rare occasion that wasn’t an angry town hall meeting.
And, of course, like Steve promised he was back in time to ease your nerves before your booth was enveloped with patrons ready to see what you had to offer. He, of course, didn’t come back empty-handed, presenting you with a succulent from Miss Driscoll’s, claiming you needed a real one to blend in with the fakes on your porch.
Before everyone arrived, he volunteered himself to be in charge of handling all the transactions, thanking his experience at Scoops and Family Video for his brisk change counting and his charming customer service. And as you expected, he was effortless at it.
“The mocha walnut loaf? Oh, that one is going to knock your socks off. But have you seen her paintings too? All her, and you won’t find these anywhere else.”
Steve paired his convictions with a wink, counting up the bills while you bagged the items with an amused smile clinging to your features, cheeks reddening from the compliments that the customers praised you with but more so the ones that Steve kept repeating like a motto. All those nerves faded into nothing when he was by your side, spurring you on.
Besides Max and Will, the other kids came and went, helping the other booths and exploring what was offered. Funnily enough, many of the kids’ parents, whom you hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting yet had stopped by to introduce themselves. Apparently, the kids really did yap about you all the time, so it was only right that they all got to meet who the heck their children were so fond of.
Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair was as sweet as ever, even Erica who according to Lucas was a “pain in the butt little sister,” was incredibly kind, sparking up a conversation about the Cherry Pie that Lucas told her was the best he ever had, and how one day she hoped you would be able to bake another so she could try it herself.
Mrs. Wheeler took the time to leave her book club booth, stopping by yours to introduce herself and gift you with a few books about art and recipe booklets she’d thought you’d like. She reminded you of Nancy in many ways — caring and headstrong just to name a few traits.
Ms. Henderson was a spitting image of Dustin — personality and all. She met you with such joy and excitement, practically buying one of every treat and even picking up a canvas that she claimed was going to hang perfectly above the mantle where all of Dustin’s science awards stood.
To your surprise, even Dorothea stopped by, bragging about how Steve had invited her and she could not deny the invitation to catch up with you for a little and get to explore the town that she hadn’t been to in ages. The kids even got the chance to meet her, cheeks being pinched as if their grandmothers were visiting, while you and Steve stifled your laughter as they all tried to converse shortly with her.
The hours ticked by fast, people coming and going, leaving with a creation of yours while they left you with an ever-growing sense of gratitude. In some weird way, Hawkins felt a little bit like home, surrounded by your friends and new company that you could get used to soon enough. By the time the day slowed down and the temperature cranked up it was midafternoon and you were all left waiting for the last call to pack up and get going.
You tossed your hair over your shoulder, fanning yourself lightly as you eyed the kids who settled themselves on the grassy ground, trying to shade themselves from the unrelenting sun.
“You guys doing good over there?” You giggled, bending down to press the back of your hand over their necks.
Max groaned, wiping the sweat off her forehead for the millionth time.
“How much longer until this is over? I think I’m gonna have a heat stroke soon.” She exasperated dramatically, prompting Lucas to fan her with his flapping hands.
“Soon.” Steve chuckled, drumming his fingers against the table tops, setting his sights across the town square where the crowds began to dwindle little by little.
“I’ll get you all lemonade from Vickie’s booth just before we start packing up.” He added before the kids mumbled out their fatigued “thank you’s.”
You stood up straight, settling next to Steve, leaning against the tables and facing opposite of where the sun was beaming down on the front of your booth. For a while there had been no customers, because you had already sold out of all the baked goods, and there were only a few of you and Will’s art pieces left — you thought that maybe some late straggler would take a pick at them before you left.
You and Steve glanced at each other, smiling faintly until his arm slung over your shoulder, pulling you toward him, closing the space.
“Are you feeling hot too?” He wondered, not minding the stickiness of your skin together when he brushed your hair behind your ear.
You opened your mouth ready to assure him that you were not on the brink of a heat stroke but Mike gagged dramatically, causing you both to close your eyes anticipating what smartass remark that would fall from his lips.
“Dude! Right in front of us?” Mike choked, looking at you both with a look of revulsion, “Take your flirting elsewhere!”
“I swear to god, Wheeler.” Steve spat, shaking his head at the boy before shooting you an apologetic look that was quite common nowadays.
You ignored the boy's middle school behavior.
“I’m okay, not too hot or anything. Just a bit warm.” You assured Steve, stroking his back lightly, thanking him for still being so concerned about you.
“Are the coolers out of water already?” Steve lifted his brow, briefly dropping his arm from your body to head over to the icebox that Hopper had dropped off in the middle of the event, filled with ice cold water bottles and Capri-Suns.
“There should be one left,” one of the kids mumbled.
He stuck his hand into the pleasantly freezing water to retrieve it for you, walking back and already having the cap twisted off, holding it out with a grin.
“Here you go.”
“You’re the best.” You whispered, taking it from him as you tipped the bottle back taking a few sips.
“Wow, I can’t believe you still have this one! I remember you made this when we were dating and I told you then it wasn’t good, and it being here now just comes to show how right I was.”
The foreign voice tumbled into the quietness, the kids perking up their heads and faces covered with confusion, while Steve looked rather shocked, instantly whipping his neck to the person speaking.
You felt frozen in fear, nearly choking on the water as you felt your heart sink into the pit of your stomach and your palms began to sweat. The plastic bottle crinkled when your shaky fingers capped it closed. Unsure, you didn’t know whether to turn around and face him or run away and hide.
“And you’re still baking for fun? Don’t tell me you haven’t found a real job yet.” The voice snickered cruelly, causing you to tighten your jaw, eyes pinching shut.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” Steve cut in, trying to understand why some stranger would come up to you and say some horrible things unwarranted, but you didn’t allow the man to give him an answer.
“You need to leave.” You seethed, whipping towards him and snatching the canvas away from his hands with enough power to cause him to lose footing for a second.
His face twisted into something evil, so condescending like he didn’t change at all, “What? Can’t take a little joke?”
“Not from you. Now go.” You replied dryly, planting the canvas back down and pointing him out the other way.
“That isn’t any way to treat a paying customer.” He teased with a pout, reaching back for his wallet, as if you would ever take a penny from him.
“I don’t want your money, so you can leave.” You shook your head with the roll of your eyes.
“Why so cold all of a sudden? I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I couldn’t resist when I saw flyers hanging around when I was visiting. How’s rent? Are you short this month because I can give you a few extra—”
An irked puff of air left your mouth, arms crossing over your chest, “What the fuck do you gain from this? Humiliating me? Getting a kick off seeing me happy without you? What is it, Brad?”
Brad. Now Steve had a name and face to put to your ex — punchable in so many ways. But unbeknownst to you all, El and Will immediately ran off, going to find their dad who was acting somewhere wandering before things could escalate into something bigger that none of them wanted to see.
“Happy?” Brad scoffed, laughing in your face, “You call working a stall in the middle of nowhere a source of happiness? What could have made you happy was getting a real job and moving out to the city to make real money.”
You looked at him disappointingly, eyes glaring with storms in them — the same ones he used to cause.
“You’re so pathetic, coming all the way out here to do this to me. Was six years not enough for you? All that time and you still haven’t had enough of making me feel bad.” You accused sharply.
“It’s called a reality check. Some people find it helpful.”
“Well, I don’t need it. I didn’t need it six years ago. I didn’t need it when we broke up, and I don’t need it now.” You retorted, slamming your hands onto the table, getting face to face with him.
Steve immediately extended his arm between you both, but you hadn’t even internalized his protective gesture, too busy staring the man in front of you down for all those years he stole from you and that moment right then that he tried to claim as his.
In the distance, coming closer there were the two kids, jogging ahead of their father, leading him to the commotion that was starting to attract the eyes of strangers and the other booths that stuck around.
“Is there a problem here?”
Hopper announced his presence, approaching the front of your booth, giving Steve a look of confusion seeing as though you were the unlikely bet to be in this position when his kids alerted him of what was going on.
You didn’t budge, ignoring Hopper and instead, standing your ground the way you were too scared to do before when it was behind the walls of your apartment. He didn’t deserve an ounce of your sympathy, let alone civility for the way he tried to slither his way back into your life.
“All those indiscretions of yours that I used to take in good fun? That’s not me anymore and I’m happy, and I don’t need to prove it to you or anyone else.” You sneered, watching the way he rolled his eyes to cover the bruise you had just given to his ego.
“Keep telling yourself that because the next person who has to endure dating you for as long as I did is going to feel sorry for themself when they realize they wasted their time on a train wreck.”
“Shut your mouth!”
Before you could even process what was happening, Steve wedged himself between you both, grabbing your ex by the collar, nearly dragging him across the tables as he shook him harshly. You gasped, stumbling back only to be caught by the hands of the children, springing quickly into action. The tussle didn’t last long, Hopper immediately jerked the two apart, all while a crowd formed, loud chatter and pointed fingers reveling in the sight that you wished was all a bad dream.
It felt all too real, reliving everything that you once put up with, and the air was beginning to getting thicker, harder to breathe through with everyone gawking. Your eyes darted left and right, Robin sprinting out of her booth to see what was going on, and Nancy on the opposite side dropping her clipboard to run over. But before they could even come close, you did what you knew how to do best — run.
Steve stepped back, muttering out a “sorry” towards Hopper, seeing as though this was the last thing that was supposed to go down today. He ran his hands roughly over his face, catching his breath and attempting to calm the adrenaline rushing through his veins.
“Are you alright?” He spoke gently, turning around expecting to be met with you, but you were already gone.
The kids were shaken up, pointing in the opposite direction where your figure was weaving through booths trying to get away.
“Go,” Two voices said behind them, Nancy and Robin nodding him along, before they worked on getting everybody to clear out and give Hop some space to escort your ex out.
You felt stupid hot tears rolling down your cheeks, angry at yourself for letting his words get to you after all this time apart, and even more sorry that Steve and the innocent kids had to see you get so worked up over a loser like him that wasn’t even deserving of time….yet you were there, visibly upset.
There was a pit in your stomach, the one that came back for the first time in ages, the one that you thought you had repressed so much so that it would never show up again. You thought the day he broke it off was it — the last time you’d ever see him or hear his voice, and for a moment that brought you all the closure you needed, but now it was as if the stitches to that wound were becoming undone once again.
Then there was that familiar voice coming to you. Not the one that was poisoned with malice, but his that was always a consolation during times of sadness, only this time, your own anxiety wasn’t the cause of your despair, but in fact another soul who dared to hurt you.
“Sweetheart! Wait up, come on honey, just—just slow down for a second.”
Naturally Steve had come after you and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t expect him to do so, but just didn’t know what you were going to say to him when he’d meet you face to face. How he could look at you and see the person he had been spending most of his time with? If that version of you was even a semblance of someone he could actually be with, or maybe the version he just saw seconds ago was the train wreck he was dodging all this time.
“I—I can’t go back there!” You shouted with tears in your eyes.
You turned into the brick alleyway of the radio shack barricading yourself from being embarrassed even more than you already were. Your hands covered your face, sobbing uncontrollably as you paced back and forth until Steve caught up, gently halting your footsteps and pulling you into his frame.
“Hey, c’mon, I’m right here.” He breathed softly, drawing your hands down just so he could see you.
You couldn’t bring yourself to look him in the eyes, pinching them shut as you bit down harshly on your lip trying to silence violent whimpers that risked escaping. His heart ached just looking at you, tear-stained cheeks with rivers continuing their paths all while you did everything but look at him — the way he wanted you to, just so you could see that he was right there with you and there wasn’t a chance he’d leave.
“Please, Steve, you have to find a way for me to get outta here. There must be a back road or something, right? Y-you can bring the car around here and take me home.” You reasoned, eyes darting around nervously, attempting to peer past his figure to think up a great escape.
He hushed you quietly, taking your face into his hands, guiding you slowly, “Sweetheart, breathe…” Your tears didn’t stop, but your staggered breathing shallowed into something gentler, “Yeah, just like that, it’s okay.”
His thumbs ran under your eyes, swiping the traces of tears that kept pouring as you tried to keep your breathing at bay. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere, alright?” He assured you sincerely, never letting up on the softness.
“I-I’m stupid,” you whispered, letting him hold your face as you hung your head low letting the teardrops splat onto the concrete beneath you.
“No, you aren’t. Don’t say that.” He scolded lightly, shaking his head in disapproval.
“I am,” you whimpered chin quivering, “I caused a scene and everyone is probably talking about it because I had to make myself the center of attention.“
“You’re so wrong.” He spoke in a tone that felt almost upbeat for the situation at hand, that you really had no choice but to stare up at him in disarray.
He looked over shoulder, then straight back at you with a faint smile on his lips.
“Hop is probably threatening him with jail time. The kids most likely heckled the hell out of him. And if I’m not wrong, Nancy and Robin are searching for you, wanting to make sure you’re okay.”
You sniffled, eyes crinkling as the tears fell, not knowing how he could be so optimistic after what had transpired. You were deeply convinced that there was no plausible way he wasn’t concerned with his own choices, settling to be there with you instead of bolting knowing you were a mess he was in for.
Without missing a beat, he continued thumbing away the tears that came, words spilling out of his mouth.
“You don’t get it do you? How much everyone here adores you, and would do anything for you at a moment’s notice?” He kept that wide-eyed look on his face, trying to get you to see yourself in the light that he did.
“You don’t even live in this town, yet you have everyone dying to be around you because you’re so kind and special.”
You croaked out a cry, swallowing back the lump in your throat, while your head rock back and forth in his cradle, unconvinced that’s how anyone saw you. But he hummed surely, picking your head up as he nodded and stared at you with a sentiment of so forthright written across his face.
He stroked your cheeks, getting impossibly closer to you, his chestnut orbs staring into your sodden ones, “I’m a little bias but you wanna know something else?”
You ran your tongue over your lips, shrugging as your sobs slowly died with each second that passed. “W-What?”
“Every time that you’re away, I feel incomplete. Like I’m missing the one thing I can’t have and I can’t take it.” He told you, feeling your jaw quiver beneath his fingertips.
“Steve…” you whispered, closing your eyes only briefly not wanting to take any of it for granted.
When your eyes met his again, his lips moved with another string of words falling from them.
“It’s you that I want. I want you with every fiber of my being.”
“I want you too,” You sniffled, hands wrapping around his wrist, holding you both there, “God…you—you have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to tell you and I’m so sorry it had to happen like this but—”
He smiled, shaking his head interjecting, “Are you gonna stop apologizing and let me kiss you? I’ve been dying to, after all.”
You cracked a laugh, eyes crinkling, and the tears stood still. All that was in front of you was all that you wanted to see forevermore.
“Yeah,” you murmured, draping your arms across his neck, “please.”
There was a promise in his eyes, to give you everything you wanted and more, an unspoken vow to always be yours if you were to be his. Those same eyes flickered over your lips, breath hitching in your chest as your lashes fluttered with your lids shutting. Lips closing the distance until everything felt like it was melting away.
Soft and tender, a gentle invitation granting you both to step into the daylight together. Your lips meshing synchronically, his hands sliding to the back of your head, pulling you closer into him, and without thinking your foot kicked up — the outside world becoming nothing when you both had your own oasis to call home.
Every brush and graze etched upon your skin, your lips making their permanent mark on his, and then it was for certain that your lives couldn’t exist without this feeling again.
Breathlessly, you both pulled away foreheads resting against each other as your starry eyes gleamed into his. Silence filled the air, yet you both knew what it meant—everything you both had been anticipating and hoping for since the beginning.
And who were you both to fight it?

my kind of fighter
Tumblr media
↳ Pairing: Felix x Reader
❧ Genre : Fluff / friends to lovers / smut
❧ Words : 2k
❧ Summary :  “Are you sure I can’t punch him in the face?” “Yes.” “What if I just break his nose a little?”
A seminar, a great invention according to your manager, to learn new things, meet new people and spend some quality time with selected colleagues. A great moment to strengthen the bonds between you. It did sound like a great idea, but only theoretically. What if you found yourself among a bunch of arrogant, narcissistic assholes? Not that great anymore, was it?
It wasn’t your first seminar; somehow you always ended on the list and fortunately for you so did Felix, the only reason you hadn’t snapped. Felix with his bright smile, cute freckles and his just too lovable personality; nobody could possibly resist this man and you were definitely not an exception. Despite his rather boyish look, he could be bitchy and incredibly straight forward – just what you needed to appreciate him more. Did you mention that he was also hella good looking? No? He was. Sadly.
Now, unfortunately for you, the two of you weren’t the only one on the list, Mike, your colleague who also happened to be a piece of shit, was on the list. Out of the three of you, he was definitely the one enjoying this seminar the most; after all he had a bunch of new people to impress, to brag about his skills, his projects (that weren’t his in the first place).  Your dislike for Mike wasn’t a new thing, you weren’t hiding it and Felix knew the extent of your hatred better than anyone.
“This project got us a big client! Quite frankly I’m impressed with myself.” You heard Mike talking from the corner of the room, frowning at his words. “I’m sure I’ll get a nice bonus and a promotion.”
You scoffed at the audacity of this man and averted your eyes from his disgusting face for the sake of your sanity.
“Relax.” Felix whispered as he leaned closer to you. Maybe to make sure you wouldn’t snap out of nowhere or maybe he just wanted to be close to you and give you some comfort (his presence did help you to relax half of the time). Or maybe both. “It’s Mike, you know how he is.”
You took a deep breath, counted till ten in your head and then looked at Felix. “I know but I still want to punch his face. And maybe break his nose too.”
Felix couldn’t stop himself from imagining the scene and chuckling. What a sight it would be. And a lot of trouble too. “As appealing as it sounds, it’s a no.”
“Are you sure I can’t punch him in the face?” You asked again, trying to do your best puppy eyes (as if it could work on Felix).
“Yes.” “What if I just break his nose a little?”
“Y/N.” “Fine! Whatever.” You huffed and turned to look back at the people in the room, avoiding Felix’s eyes on purpose, pouting.
Felix shook his head, quite amused with you. He knew, of course, that if he didn’t object to your wish, you would have done it and damn the consequences. He couldn’t let you do it. “Oh no.” You groaned, noticing that Mike was done bragging and was walking towards you. Even with Felix’s comforting presence, you tensed, knowing that you couldn’t avoid the man and his bullshit.
“Felix! Y/N!” Mike called for you, too cheerful for your liking. “Why are you standing by yourself? Come on! I have some really nice people to introduce you to!”
Whoever considered Mike interesting and believed his bullshit wasn’t worth your time in your opinion, but you forced yourself not to comment.
“We’re fine here.” You finally replied, trying not to sound too annoyed.
Mike cocked a brow at you, clearly unconvinced but it didn’t fazed him that much. He stood by your side and didn’t hesitate to wrap an arm around your waist. “Come on, you need to relax, darling.” The nerve, you thought. This was also why you hated Mike with all your guts. He believed he owed everything and everybody; he believed he could touch any woman without consequences. You hated his touch. You hated his scent. And you hated it even more when you felt his hand getting lower, dangerously close to your butt.
“Sorry Mike,” Felix started to attract Mike’s attention on him. If Felix wanted to throttle him, he didn’t show it, but you knew better. He was definitely holding back. “But Y/N and I already have plans. We were about to leave.”
Mike didn’t reply for a moment. He watched Felix, frowning with clear displease but finally let go of you. He stepped back, his eyes going back and forth between you as you neared closer to Felix. “I’ve been wondering for a while but…” He smirked as he stared knowingly at Felix. “Are you guys fucking?”
“None of your fucking business!” You finally snapped, blood boiling, ready to jump at him and finally break his nose. Whether Felix liked it or not.
Before you could do something that would definitely feel good for you but attract even more unwanted attention, Felix grabbed your hand and pulled you against him, holding your hand tightly in hope to calm you down. The gesture only made Mike’s smile grew wider.
“Guess you are.” He commented, “Aren’t you a lucky man.”
Luckily for you or him, you weren’t sure about who was really the lucky one, he left the two of you alone. You pushed Felix away, fuming with rage. You knew, of course, he was right holding you back but in a moment of pure hatred, you couldn’t think straight.
“I can’t believe you stopped me.” You yanked your hand from his gentle yet strong grip.
“He’s not worth the trouble.”
“So I have to deal not only with his bullshits but also with his disgusting behavior?”
“Y/N…”
“Don’t bother. I’m going back to my room.”
*** The moment you got back to your room, you disregarded all your clothes and went straight to the shower, wanting the hot water to wash Mike’s scent from your skin and erase his existence from your mind. It did help. To some extent. But with this shower came also the realization that you hadn’t been very nice to Felix. He was looking out for you and in your anger you didn’t see it. You promised to yourself to apologize later.
Later came sooner than you expected.
You were scrolling through your phone, wearing the oversized t-shirt you brought in your bag, relaxing when someone knocked the door.
You hesitated, wanting to be left alone, yet your curiosity got the best of you.
“Hi.” Felix said, smiling sheepishly at you as you opened the door. But his smile slowly vanished from his face as he noticed what you were wearing. He gulped, trying not to stare, trying to keep his eyes on your face. He cleared his throat. “Can I come in?”
You didn’t trust yourself to speak, instead you moved from his way to let him in. It was your chance to apologize for your behavior but your voice got stuck in your throat as you silently observed him.
“I’m sorry for earlier.” He apologized, taking you completely off guard.
“What?” “I shouldn’t have stopped you. Especially not after he touched you.”
And yet, you knew he was absolutely right stopping you from getting in trouble. You watched him for a moment, watched as he clenched his fists before releasing a long sigh.
“You’re not the one who should be apologizing.” You finally said as you got closer to him. “I shouldn’t have snapped at you. I’m sorry.”
Felix shook his head and took your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I should have let you stand up for yourself. Mike will never learn. Not until someone teaches him a lesson.”
You stayed this way for a moment. Felix didn’t let go of your hand, not that you minded, quite the opposite. His gentle touch was more than welcomed and made your heart beat a little faster.
After a moment, Felix took another step closer to you, your bodies so close to each other, you could feel his warmth.
“You know that I would always fight for you, right?” He said, eyes locked with yours. He was looking at you with so much intensity, with so much longing, you could melt right on the spot. You were always close to him. But this? This was new and too overwhelming. You averted your eyes from him face and gulped - Felix was having none of it. Gently, he grabbed your chin and made you look at him. “Y/N?”
Was he trying to kill you? Because, you thought, he was doing a rather good job. “Yes.” You managed somehow to say but didn’t sound as confident as you were supposed to.
Felix hummed, satisfied but didn’t let go of your face, his eyes on your lips. “I really want to kiss you right now.” He admitted
Did you want him to kiss you? The answer was on the tip of your tongue but you held back. Crossing the line was dangerous, you knew it and he had to know it too. And yet, he didn’t seem bothered, so should you?
“Say something, please.” He begged, hopeful.
It was pure madness, there was no other way to describe what you were about to do, but you couldn’t deny your own feelings. Because yes, you wanted to kiss him. You wanted him to hold you in his arms. You wanted to feel his lips, his touches, everything.
“Fuck it.” You cursed under your breath, pulled him by his collar and crashed your mouth against his.
Felix didn’t hesitate, not even for a second; he wrapped his arms around your body and pulled you fully against him, lifting you lightly from the floor. Just like you, he wanted to feel all of you, he wanted to know your touch, your taste, everything you were willing to show him, to give him.
“Fucking finally.” He groaned against your lips.
The kiss was just everything you had ever imagined. Needy but sweet. Desperate and yet controlled. Butterflies erupted in your stomach as you poured all your feelings, all your needs into the kiss.
Felix lifted you from the floor, wrapping your legs around him as he carried you to your bed, lips never leaving yours. He broke the kiss only to drop you on the bed. He stilled and admired the view before him. Your t-shirt was barely covering your body which made him realize that you wore absolutely nothing underneath. He licked his lips, memorizing every part of your body, every curve, every mole, every little scar. You were perfect and he couldn’t wait to explore you, to make you his.
“It shouldn’t be allowed to look so good.” He whispered and quickly got rid of his shirt, exposing a perfect skin and abs; you couldn’t wait to trace your lips over his body.
“Look who’s talking.” You giggled and wiggled your brows playfully at him.
Felix got on his knees, grabbed your ankles and pulled you to the edge of the bed. He didn’t hesitate; he kissed your right ankle while having his eyes on you, watching you like a prey, watching as you inhaled sharply. His lips trailed from your ankle to your calf, to your knee, leaving loving kisses here and there. He was so delicate, so sweet, turning you on even more. He was so close yet so far from where you needed him most.
“Felix.” You pleaded
“Hm?” He smiled against your skin.
“Are you going to make me beg?” You asked and regretted almost instantly your question as Felix looked at you (looking too beautiful between your legs) smiling too proudly for your liking. He liked the idea.
He pressed another kiss to your inner thigh. “So tempting.” Yes, it was and you would absolutely beg if it came to that because it was Felix, the sweetest person on earth. Because he was your comfort person. Because you wanted to give him everything he wanted.
“But, as tempting as it sounds,” He started and gave a light lick to your pussy, just to have a taste. He groaned. “I don’t think I can resist your sweet pussy, love.”
Thank god, you thought.
Felix didn’t hesitate any longer and dove in. He licked, he sucked, he feasted on you, already addicted to your taste. How did he manage all this time to resist you was a mystery even to him. Now that he had you, now that he had a taste, Felix knew, there was no way in the world he would let you go. There was no way he would allow another one to touch you.
“Felix.” You moaned and arched your back in pure bliss. But you still needed more, wanted to feel more.
“So sweet.” Felix hummed in satisfaction, memorizing now not only your taste but also your voice, your sweet and lovely moans.
Felix pushed at first a finger inside you, then quickly added a second one, thrusting them in and out, watching how your pretty moans got louder, how you rocked your hips wanting to feel him deeper inside you.
“Fuck, fuck.”
“Look at you, love.” Felix purred, “So eager, so wet. And just for me.”
“Just for you.” You managed to say in your dizzy state. You could barely hear him. You could barely think when he was reaching all the right spots.
His tongue, his fingers were all you needed to fall apart, to come completely undone with one silent scream.
Felix rose from the floor and while staring at you, eyes filled with lust, he licked his fingers, taking his time – you almost came once more with the sight. He knew exactly what he was doing to you.
“I’ll never get enough.” He admitted
You wanted to taste him too. To mark him. To pleasure him. Before you could do any of that, Felix disregarded the rest of his clothes and joined you, hovering over you, pushing your legs apart a little bit further.
You always knew that Felix was beautiful, but now that you saw him fully naked, his warmth enveloping you, you knew that beautiful wasn’t the right word to describe him. Unable to say anything else, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him for a needy, wet kiss, softly moaning into the kiss as you felt him against you.
Felix slowly eased inside you, inch by inch, stretching you.
“Fuck love, you feel so fucking good.” Felix growled, his voice sounding deeper than ever. He stilled and took a moment to pepper your face with kisses, to kiss your jaw, your neck while giving you a moment to adjust.
Nothing and nobody could compare to Felix, not then and definitely not now. Not when he was gently thrusting into you, setting a slow, loving yet deep rhythm, making you whimper and moan his name, begging for more. The world around you simply ceased to exist as he kissed you, loving you with his every thrust, with his every kiss, with his fingers working their magic on your clit, slowly bringing you to a shattering release you were sure you had never experienced before. Maybe he was that good, or maybe with Felix, everything felt different.
“Can I say it now?” Felix asked, growling as he sought his own release. “I love you.”
Your heart leaped up for joy. You kissed him fiercely, letting him explode inside you as you poured your own feelings into the kiss, hoping he could feel just how much you loved him back.
Felix fell on top of you, head resting on your breast, his warm breath tickling your sensitive skin. You ran your fingers through his locks.
“I love you too.” You whispered, “In case you doubted.”
Felix lifted his head to look at you. He gifted you with his sweetest and brightest smile you had ever seen. How could you not love him?
***
Despite the few hours you managed to sleep, you felt happier than ever, filled with new energy – enough to face the face and fight the world if needed. Felix, by your side, mirrored your expression as you had breakfast on the terrace of your hotel. The weather was lovely and so was your sight.
“I think, this seminar was useful, for once.” You admitted between two bites. “I can’t even complain anymore.”
Felix chuckled fondly. “I’m sure you’ll find something to complain about.”
Felix was absolutely right. You would.
“Wait-“ Just when you were about to stuff your mouth with your yummy pancake, you spotted Mike getting to a table by the window. You frowned, taken aback. He was alone which was so out of character, but maybe it had everything to do with his swollen nose. You gasped loudly and dropped your fork. “No way!” You pointed an accusing finger at Felix. “His nose was mine to break!”
Felix tried to look guilty but one look at your pouty face and he burst into laughter. “Sorry.”
It was hard to feign being mad at him when he looked at you like that. Who could possibly be strong enough to resist his pretty smile and his eyes? Definitely not you.
“I promise; next time I won’t hold you back.” He swore. “I’ll try not to.” He quickly added.
“Sounds like a plan.”

The First Time - Mike Wheeler x reader
Pairing: Mike Wheeler (Stranger Things) x f!reader
Warnings: fluff, soft smut, loss of virginity. also this is kinda long, but it needed to be, so I’m not sorry lol
Summary: Mike and reader are in love and have their first time together. (My girls who had awful first times, this one goes out to you!)
Love note from Nina: I haven’t seen any good first time fics for Mikey, which is ultimately a crime, so I wrote this one. I tried to make it softer and a bit more realistic, idk. Hope you like it! 💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Mike had been dating for a few months now - ever since you moved to Hawkins. You had gotten close to Max and Eleven, at first, as you and the girls were in the same Gym class; but pretty soon, you won over the entire party. That’s something Mike loved about you: your easygoing personality, how easily you’d befriend basically everyone, how considerate and kind you always were.
He loved you, it was obvious. What was a bit less obvious, on the other hand, was how much he desired you, how much he craved your body on his, to feel your soft skin in his hands, to hear the faint moans you’d sometimes let out when he kissed the right spot on your neck.
All of this lead to this Saturday: you and Mike were alone at his place, up in his room, with the door locked and the lights slightly dimmed. He sat down on the bed and you climbed onto his lap, one leg to each side of his waist, eager for a good make out session - maybe even more than that.
The way Mike groped your breasts over your shirt was making you impossibly wet, and the way you straddled and ground on his lap was making him impossibly hard. The kisses were heated, sloppy, hands grabbing and groping into anything they could. It seemed pretty eminent that you two would end up, you know… Doing it.
- I’ve never - Mike started, panting. You could tell he was a bit embarrassed as he tried to look into your eyes, but quickly looked down. - You know, I’ve never done this with anyone… Before.
You smiled sweetly, lowering your head, also a bit embarrassed.
- Can I tell you a secret? - you went for his ear to whisper as he nodded. - Me neither. It’s my first time as well.
- Really? - Mike’s eyes widened in confusion. You were so goddamn pretty, you were a cheerleader, for heaven’s sake. How come you were still a virgin at 18?
- I just… I was kind of saving myself - you chuckled as you toyed with the collar of his Hellfire T-shirt. - For someone special, you know?
- A-and am I special enough? I mean, for you? - he asked, insecure.
- Mike - you put your hand gently on his cheek, capturing his gaze. - You’re the love of my life. Baby, you’re the one.
You could tell Mike had gotten a bit teary eyed as he leaned in to kiss you. It was a slow, delicate kiss, full of love and tenderness. You loved him so much, you had never fallen for anyone like you fell for that sweet nerdy boy.
You gently wiped a tear off his cheek, as you held his face gently to yours, deepening the kiss. His heart was beating like a drum as he reached for the hem of your T-shirt, feeling the soft skin of your waist underneath.
- Can-can I take this off, love? - he asked, nearly whispering.
You nodded, your eyes fluttering closed to feel his touch. Mike’s hands were always impossibly warm, so inviting. He roamed them agonizingly slowly up your sides, until you raised your arms to help him get the T-shirt up and off your body.
As the fabric finally fell on the floor, you could see that his eyes were low, enchanted by the sight of your chest, the sharp curve of your waist, your dainty collar bones, all of you. His red swollen lips, slightly parted, seemed to move nearly imperceptibly as his fingers touched your skin. It was like he couldn’t even believe you were real.
You put your hands on his hips slowly, also going for the hem of his T-shirt, lifting it up as your fingers felt his hot skin underneath. Once you both had exposed your upper bodies, you couldn’t resist to pull him closer and touch your chest to his.
Mike pulled air in between his teeth discreetly, getting shivers down his spine as you lightly grazed your nails against his back, embracing him.
His breathing was faintly audible as he embraced your waist, nuzzling your hair to inhale your sweet scent. You moaned softly as his lips nipped on your neck, eyes rolling in pleasure.
His hands roamed up and reached the clasp on your bra, struggling to open it, shaking a little with nervousness. You hugged him tighter, kissing his neck as well, trying to reassure him that it was ok, that you wanted him more than anything.
As he managed to take off your bra and discarded it, on the floor, your nipples grazed against his chest, your whole skin shivering at his own, so warm.
Mike cupped your breasts gently with his hands, trying not to scare you off, but mesmerized by how perfect your body was. He lowered his kisses from your neck to your chest, his lips softly touching your skin as he looked up into your eyes. That raw, desiring look made you bite your lip, moaning even more.
He kept his gaze on yours as he took your nipple in between his lips, suckling delighted at how soft your skin felt in his mouth. He did the same to the other one, his eyes closing for a moment and returning to meet yours. You held the back of his hair while he suckled, very discreetly pushing his head into your body, as if pleading for him to continue.
He had one hand attached to the breast he was suckling, and the other one on your waist, slipping slowly into the hem of your low rise jeans. As his lips let go of your now reddish and perky bud, he put both his hands to your hips, gesturing for you to stand up so he could unzip your pants.
You stood up and he soon followed, pulling your hips closer for another kiss, as his hands unzipped and lowered your jeans, that soon pooled at your feet. You did the same to him, his erection so evident during the whole process. Your mouth watered at the thought of taking his length in between your lips, pleasuring him. You wanted to pleasure him so bad, you wanted him to come undone under your touch, you wanted to drive him crazy.
Mike’s underwear was white and a bit transparent at this point, as his tip had oozed some precum - that made you lick your lips.
Your smooth fingers reached for his underwear’s waistband, as you shot your eyes at him for a moment, making sure you had his consent before slowly sliding the fabric off his body. His hard length sprung free in front of you for the first time, and you tried to suppress a small surprised sigh, to no success.
With both hands, you touched Mike’s throbbing shaft, gently pumping him even harder than he already was. He let out a soft moan, looking at your hands touching him.
- Can I… Can I put it, you know, in my mouth? - you asked, a bit embarrassed.
- Sure, love - he responded, lustful.
Your lips engulfed Mike’s tip, being extremely careful to avoid any teeth contact. You licked over its opening as it kept releasing more fluid. It was so good to finally taste him. Fitting his tip inside your mouth, you tried to take him deeper and understand how much further you could take. Mike, on the other hand, had other concerns in mind.
- Babe - he gently touched your face, gesturing for you to stop.
- Is everything ok? - you asked, worried. - Did I do anything wrong?
- You did nothing wrong, my love - he reassured you, his hand caressing your cheek. - It’s just that… I’m afraid I won’t last very long, you know? Being our first time and everything…
- It’s ok, we’ll do only what we both want, right? - you kissed him, trying to soothe his nerves.
The kiss got deeper and deeper, hands now able to explore practically all of both bodies - except for a small area around your hips. Mike took the sides of the fabric in his fingers, muttering something against your lips. You only moaned in return.
He slid your panties down your legs slowly, savoring the moment. You were now completely naked in front of him for the first time, and your body was just… Wow. You were so beautiful, he couldn’t believe you were his, and he was yours, and you’d now take each other’s virginity.
He motioned for you to lie down on his bed, and lied next to you, guiding your face for another round of kisses - up until his right hand started going south. He touched your breasts at first, thumbing your nipples until they perked up. He caressed your tummy and slowly made his way further down.
Mike’s finger touched your entrance very gently, feeling your warm wetness coat his fingertips. You shivered under his touch, thighs spreading instinctively, wanting more. His index finger slowly entered your tiny hole, and you could hear Mike faintly gasp, ‘cause you were so tight, only one of his fingers already seemed to fill you up completely.
- Is-is this ok? - he asked, speaking very softly. He didn’t want to hurt you.
- Yes, love - you moaned, nodding as your face scrunched up in pleasure.
Mike’s finger pumped in and out of your tiny hole, as he was watching it get wetter and wetter, splashy noises like music to his ears. Finally, he quit his teasing and touched your clit, tracing soothing delicate circles into your core, as you were aching with desire.
You mouth was agape, a trail of moans escaping your lips as your body squirmed and quivered under his touch. He was nearly hovering over you, as if not to miss any breath, any contortion of your beautiful face.
His fingers kept massaging your clit in a delicious motion, your tiny hole underneath clenching around nothing, desperate to be filled. Your arousal trickled down your folds and puddled on the bedsheets, as proof of that encounter.
Your breath quickened and your chest heaved, relief building rapidly at the pit of your stomach, and as you thought you couldn’t take it anymore, you came. Your orgasm ripped through your body as an earthquake to your thighs, a few louder moans echoing through the bedroom. It was like being a piece of paper and slowly falling to the ground, your head feeling so light in such a delicious sensation.
Mike couldn’t help but softly moan to himself at the sight of you. Now completely drenched in arousal and much more relaxed, it would be undeniably easier to put his length to your body without causing you much discomfort.
- You’re soaking wet… Please, make love to me, y/n - he whispered, his eyes rolling, his head dizzy with desire.
- I will, Mikey - you responded, capturing his lips once again, melting into his touch. - I’m yours, love.
He reached for a small silver wrapper in the drawer of his bedside table, quickly opening it with his fingertips and putting on the condom. Mike got on top of you, kissing your lips once again, delighting your body, your warmth, all of you. He aligned himself with your entrance, slowly gathering your lubrication on his tip before trying to enter you.
You searched for his eyes, nodding as you sighed in desire. Mike felt your hymen resisting his length, but gently pushed through it, eyes on you the entire time. You didn’t seem to be in pain - he only noticed your eyes were fluttering and your bottom lip was visibly bitten down.
He sank himself inside you very slowly, inch by inch, carefully studying each micro-expression on your face as he did. Your breathing seemed deep and paused, as if you were trying to remain calm. His heart was nearly beating out of his chest, and he wanted to be absolutely sure that you were well and feeling good.
- Are you ok, princess? - he softly asked, caressing your cheek. - Am I hurting you?
- It’s ok, love - you reassured him. - It just takes some adjusting.
You did feel some pressure, the sensation so new, your stomach so full of butterflies. But it didn’t hurt: Mike’s loving eyes were soothing any discomfort you could have been feeling, and that was all that mattered.
Growing accustomed to it, you felt more confident and involuntarily clenched around his length; and he started moving slowly, thrusting into you very gently, while his attention kept focused on your face. As you seemed fine, moaning very softly to show him you enjoyed those new sensations, he could finally focus on what he was feeling himself: you were so wet, so tight, the whole sight of your naked body so arousing.
He thrusted a bit more firmly now, but you could still sense some worry in his eyes.
- Don’t hold back - you whispered into his ear. - I love you, and I want you to feel all the pleasure you can, too.
His eyes met yours as you pulled him for another passionate kiss, your legs now around his waist, hugging his body. As he thrusted more and more, you took his earlobe in your teeth, nibbling devilishly on it, moaning sweet nothings into his ear. Not being able to contain himself anymore, Mike let out a few whimpers and spilled onto the condom, relieved.
He dropped his body’s weight onto yours for a moment, panting, gently hugging your sides. You kissed him on the lips one last time, smiling as you saw his damp bangs dangling from his forehead. Ugh, you loved Mike Wheeler. He quickly disposed of the condom in his room’s bin, and lied back in bed with you.
- I’m so sorry I couldn’t last longer, love - Mike kissed your temple, his eyebrows furrowed. - It’s just that… All of this was just so new to me, that I-
- You were perfect, Mikey - you whispered, kissing all over his face. - I’m so glad I had my first time with you. We’ll have plenty of time to get more comfortable with our intimacy, don’t worry.
- This was only the first step, right?
- Exactly - you smiled as he snuggled up to you.
- I love you, y/n - he said, holding you tight in his arms.
- I love you too, Mikey.
You cuddled together for another couple of hours, naked, enjoying each other’s warmth and touch. It all felt so right.
As the sun was setting, he took you home, and at your doorstep, you said your I love you’s and goodbyes now holding even more weight and complexity to them. You loved him so bad it nearly hurt.
The next day, the doorbell rang. You opened the door yourself, only to be handed a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The mailman didn’t say who they were from, and simply left. You could blame the butterflies still taking over your stomach, or maybe your recent slumber, but you had no idea who had sent you that gift until you read the card that came with it.
“Dear y/n,
Deflowering means to take one’s flower, and as we have just done that to each other, this seemed like an appropriate gift.
I know these physical flowers are fleeting, but the fact that we now have each other’s flowers is forever.
Thank you for taking my flower so gently and lovingly, I hope you felt the same about me taking yours. I’m crazy for you.
- Mike Wheeler, whose flower (and love) you’ll bear for the rest of your life.”

Chapter 4. Date
Michael froze. Elizabeth rushed towards her father. He looked at her sternly, nodding. Girl obediently got into the car. She knew that if her father talked in that tone and looked at her with that look, then she just had to keep quiet and do what he wanted.
“Dad, i—”
“Get in the car, now.”
Mike quickly went to the car, not even looking at you. You were at a loss what to do. The situation is terribly awkward. You haven’t even thought that Michael lied to his father for the sake of hanging out with you.
“Honey, get in the car, it's cold outside. I'll give you a ride home.” Afton’s face immediately changed, he putted on a wide friendly smile. You couldn't find words, so you packed up the rest of your things and just got in the car, at the same damn front seat. Afton's kids were sitting in the back, none of them wanted to sit next to their pissed father.
William started the engine and the car moved off. The cold didn’t recede, and you already regretted that you wore only a light t-shirt and shorts.
Michael was looking at the floor the whole time, nervously playing with the zipper on his backpack. He knew what was waiting for him. He knew what he was doing, but his stupid habit of not listening to his father's orders always played a cruel joke on him. He was most afraid for you and Elizabeth, because it was him who got you into this situation after all.
“We'll deal with you at home, Michael,” man behind the wheel said seriously. Michael looked up at the mirror in the car, meeting his father's angry gaze. “you’re grown-up guy, but framed yourself and your girl friend.”
You swallowed nervously, feeling uneasy. Is Afton really that cruel? Yes, he sometimes scared you in childhood, but he never showed any hint of aggression towards you or his children, at least in front of you. When you arrived at your house, you wanted to look at Michael, but he was sitting pressed into the car seat, so you hurried out.
Elizabeth waved goodbye to you, you smiled and said goodbye to her in return.
A few days passed after that incident, but you still felt uncomfortable, you felt kind of guilty in front of Mike, and this guilt was eating you up from the inside, forcing you to come up with terrible scenarios in your head. What happened when Michael got home? No, William can't be that cruel.
Unfortunately, Michael started avoiding you, as if he was afraid that someone would see you next to him. When you met on the street, he tried to hurry past with his head down, like a frightened puppy. But Mr. Afton began to visit you every day, every morning he stopped by and brought food to the house: eggs, milk, meat, vegetables. Once he even gave your mom a few hundred dollars so she could buy something for herself, from his words. Sometimes Elizabeth was with him, she couldn't get enough of your company. She kept asking you to play with her in backyard, not that you'd mind, but you couldn't get Michael's behavior out of your head.
On another summer day, you spent time with Elizabeth as always, she showed you her drawings. One of them had an animatronic, although all her drawings consisted only of these robots, but this one impressed you. It was robot girl in a bright red dress and two red ponytails.
“Daddy said he's going to make me one like her soon!” girl exclaimed, looking at your reaction. You looked at the drawing in detail.
“Lizzie, that’s really… great!” you patted her on the head, giving her back her drawing.
“Elizabeth, it's time to go home.” William came up to you. She nodded obediently and headed for the car. “wait for me there, honey.” He said kindly. Still, the way he treated his daughter left you hoping that nothing terrible happened to Michael that day. “Y/n, I have a question for you…“ he began, sitting down next to you on a bench in the yard.
“Yeah?”
“Would you like to go on a date with me?”
“Sorry?” your heart started beating at a furious rate, breathing became faster. You looked at his face, which expressed absolute calm. Your body tensed. Damn, when are you going to stop reacting like that? You must do something about your anxiety.
“I asked if you wanted to go on a date with me, honey.” William repeated.
“B-but you…” you didn't know what words to answer. He's a married man, what will Mrs. Afton think? And what will your whole small town think when they see you two together in some restaurant? “I don't quite understand you…”
“You don't have to worry about such things, bunny.” Afton said stiffly, as if reading your mind. “What do you say?”
You understood that you couldn't refuse. You didn’t knew how to. He was always there for you as if he knew when you were feeling bad and anxious. And how he calmed you down at the cemetery? And how he protected you from your drunken dad when you were little? And when he helped your mom with money and groceries? And in the end, when he gave you an unforgettable birthday in his pizzeria without demanding anything in return? You thought it would be just not right to refuse here.
At some point, he replaced your father. And you was grateful.
“I agree, William.” it was the first time his name came out of your mouth. William’s impassive face immediately changed to delight.
“Good girl,” he caressed your hair. “Ill pick you up tomorrow at 7.”
Her doe eyes symbolizing childlike innocence, purity. Such soft lips that he wants to kiss forever. Weak, frail hands. She's so pretty, so defenseless, like a child. William, what is wrong with you? He wants to kiss her, embrace her in his arms tightly, bite her, he want to bury his face in her soft hair, inhale the sweet scent of perfume mixed with shampoo. She's all playful, flirtatious. All for him. His porcelain doll. His little angelic creature. His girl. His fucking girl. His dream.
“Daddy,” she stands in front of him in a skirt and a snow-white blouse, seductively playing with the buttons on it. “What do you want? Tell me.” her voice echoed in his head.
“I want you.” the only thing William could say. “Fuck…”
That's fucking crazy.
His pants are tight as hell, his cock is about to explode, but she doesn't seem to be going to do anything about it. She brings her finger to her mouth, sucking it, then runs it along the jaw line, going lower and lower, drawing a line around her breasts. William has completely lost track of time, who he is, where he is, why, so many questions, no answers, and no answers are needed, all he wants is a continuation of this show. In an instant, the torn shirt flies to hell, and she, as little devil approaches him, sitting on his lap.
“William,” her whisper making the blood boil. “Take me…” her playful fingers run over his hot body.
He's about to suffocate from this unrestrained passion.
Williams’s eyes shoot open and he leaned on his elbows. He was breathing heavily, trying to figure out what just happened. His own wife was sleeping next to him.
Afton didn’t lie, he came to pick you up at exactly 7, even a little earlier. Oh, how it cheered him up to see you in the dress he gave you for your birthday. He chose it carefully and for a long time, as well as the necklace for it. William couldn't take his eyes off you the whole way, which didn't go unnoticed by you.
Your date started at a restaurant that he personally picked up. The place was so luxurious, all those tables for two with a white tablecloth, live music and an incredibly intimate atmosphere. All of this made you feel new, completely unknown feelings, but you liked them.
William ordered the two of you a fish fillet with a vegetable side dish, which he asked the best chef of the establishment to cook, because “my girl has the best of everything.”
Still, the growing feeling that someone of neighbors might see you never left, making you nervous again.
“Y/n, don’t worry," William said, cutting the fish in half. “Think of this date as… a continuation of your birthday.”
The waiter came up to you as soon as you finished eating, but dinner wasn't over for you here, William asked for dessert. Oh, yes, he knew you were a big fan of sweets. Even as a child, when you were visiting his family, your little hands were always reaching for the table with candies, because there was never anything at home.
“What do you think, Princess?” gently, lovingly, he asks, studying your expression. You'd be lying if you said you didn't like it. There was an ice cream in front of you: chocolate, creme brulee and vanilla, all three ice cream balls were covered with caramel. Afton knew your preferences perfectly well.
“That's wonderful, thank you!” like a hungry kitten, you started eating dessert. Your thoughts receded into the background at once, now you were most focused on the taste, it is so cloying, sweet, tender, as you liked. Under all this ecstasy, you didn't even notice William's gaze piercing you. Holding his breath, he watched your actions. You were so happy, so beautiful, so… desirable. Begging to be ruined. And when you licked the rest of the ice cream off your lips, he forgot how to breathe. You're the little devil that drives him crazy.
When dinner was over, William paid the bill for the two of you, leaving a tip for the waiter.
You were standing on the street, not far from his car. Despite the evening, this time the temperature didnt drop like back then, it was very warm. Yes, apparently, this summer will be remembered by you as the hottest of all time. William was talking to someone on the old phone, probably Henry, while you stood there and obediently waited, thinking about dinner tonight. There was no point in hiding it, you liked everything. Yes, there were terrible thoughts in your head that this whole romantic setting was not suitable for a girl who just turned 18 and a man who was already 50, but nothing terrible happened, did it? That date, in your head, was just a substitute for the words “thank you” for everything he did for you.
“Princess,” you didn't even notice when he finished talking on the phone. He turned to you, "I hope I satisfied your childish whims?" He smiled. You were right, William was normal and wasnt going to go any further, you can exhale. He just sees you as a child, like his other daughter… right?
“Of course, Daddy!” you giggled, joking. William however wasn't laughing, he fell into a stupor, what did you just call him? He got speechless. That picture immediately popped into his head, that image of you that has been tormenting him for weeks, months, years. Afton raised an eyebrow, laughing nervously back at you.
“Everything for my girl, let's go to the car.”
This time, the back seats weren't occupied, but because of the state of euphoria and delight, you decided that you could at your favorite damn front seat of this purple car. William got in next to you, but he wasn't going to start the car. He couldn’t get out of his head what you called him a few minutes ago. A joke, huh? Everything is burning inside, a wild, crazy feeling gripped his brain. Whole situation got worse when your dress strap fell off your shoulder, in his head it was like a sign to act.
With a light movement, touching your skin, he tucked strand of hair behind your ear and adjusted the dress strap. His touch caused pleasant shivers that spread all over your body. Heart stopped. His hands gently stroked your neck and shoulders with careful movements. Such a… strange, inexplicable feeling. It seems that you want to continue, but something in your head screams "enough, it’s enough", is this probably the remnants of common sense? Hundreds, no, thousands of butterflies in your stomach, the feeling that you are about to melt, like this ice cream. A pleasant shiver through your body from his touches. You stared into his gray-blue eyes, fascinated, with your mouth slightly open, as if begging him to kiss you.
“You… fuck, you're driving me crazy.” Afton hissed in your ear, from the wave of all these new sensations, you couldn't even answer him. His breath burned your skin. “Let's go to my place.”

Steve harrington x reader
Steve won the poll last time so this is a Steve fic :) ❤️
Part one
You and Steve grow closer after he saved you from the monstrous bats, you begin to spend the night with him, no sex just comfort.
It doesn't take long for feelings to deepen between the two of you.
18+ minors go away.
Tumblr media
❤️
The first night once Eddie left was horrendous, you were exhausted and hurting all over. After taking some pain meds you still couldn't sleep.
Every position hurt like a bitch, when you closed your eyes all you saw was those vicious bats, heard that shriek that would haunt you for months on end.
You could have died. If Steve hadn't turned up you would have and that thought has anxiety choking you, clawing at your throat and making it hard to breathe.
This continues the next night as well which leaves you and into the next. By the time it's Monday you're cranky, sleep deprived and in no mood for Eddie's continued annoyance at your moment with Steve.
"For goodness sake Eddie, would you cut this shit out. He saved my life, he's a good guy. Just drop it" Eddie quietens but still drums his fingers on the table, a habit of his when he's annoyed.
"Wow, someone is bitchy today" Stacy snipes and Eddie glares at her exasperated. Dustin said they had some kind of argument on Friday but you don't know about what, honestly you're sick of the drama from her.
"Sorry of lack of sleep from nearly being bat chow and finding a dead body is making me a little out of sorts" usually you ignore her itchiness but you aren't putting up with it today.
By the end of the day you're eager just to get home, have a shower and head to bed and attempt to relax, you're head is pounding and the wounds are still hurting from time to time.
You can't head home though because Hellfire has an extra meeting today and it's past five before it finishes. You're suprised to see Steve but remember he will be picking up Dustin, Lucas and Mike.
He walks over to you looking concerned, gently touching your shoulder.
"You okay? How are your wounds healing?" the way he cares about you, even though he barely knows you makes you feel all warm and happy.
"I'm okay, they still hurt but they are healing, are you okay?" he nods and shrugs like it's no big deal.
"I've had worse, it's the nightmares... He shudders, it's better now than it used to be but they can come back out of nowhere" you definitely can sympathise with him and find yourself telling him about your own nightmares.
As you do his frown grows increasingly and he runs his hand through his perfectly styled hair, he opens his mouth then pauses before speaking.
"If you want you could come to mine, my parents are never around and it gets lonely. We could watch movies, just hang out for a while. I don't want you to be alone in this sweetheart" you brighten at this and nod.
"I'd like that"
❤️
It was like a weight had been lifted of you when you were with Steve. Mostly you just talked and set up a den of sorts in his lounge. Blankets, snacks and movies.
Robin joins you and Steve for a little while and watching their affection for each other fills your heart with joy. You're pretty sure they are platonic soulmates or something.
You find yourself opening up more to Steve about your complicated feelings for Eddie, he confides in you about Nancy and it feels good to get a lot of things of your chest, things you could never say to Eddie in fear of ruining your friendship.
"The burden of unrequited love. Shit, we're hopeless aren't we" Steve jokes and you snort, you really were.
When you head upstairs with Steve to his room you're struck by how bare his room is, there's not many personal touches at all. It hurts your heart that his parents don't seem to care about him one bit, only sending home the latest fashion and pushing Steve to be like them.
He could never be like that, he was too warm, full of love. You're just getting to know him and you can see that, plus Dustin, Lucas and Mike worship him.
"Uh, I can sleep on the floor, you take the bed" Steve offers. As he makes up a bed on the floor you tug his hand gently.
"There's plenty of room, can you sleep beside me just for tonight" The minute you look at Steve with a pleading puppy eyed gaze he's putty in your hands.
"Sure" he slips in beside you and you just talk for a little bit, talk until you're both struggling to stay awake and Steve's voice is thick with sleep.
Your eyes grow heavier and you fall asleep, to your surprise it's peaceful and when you wake in the morning nightmare free you feel so full of relief.
Steve's arm is slung around your waist and pulling you close to him. It feels nice, really nice and you're happy to fall back into a deep slumber.
❤️
You don't know when it was suddenly decided that you would spend every night at Steve's. At first it was because Steve's parents were never around, he was lonely and craved company, while you craved comfort and you helped each other.
It's so you both didn't feel so alone in dealing with all this monsters and shit that were in Hawkins. There was no way those bats weren't from some sort of hell dimension, they weren't normal that was for sure.
When you were around Steve the nightmares weren't so vivid and frightening, you'd wake up beside Steve and his arms would instinctively wrap around you, holding you close and whispering that you were okay.
One time you sleep so well with Steve, that you wake up late for classes and you're in a rush to get to school.
Steve drives you and Robin, who woke the two of you up, the little smile she had on her face, seeing you and Steve entwined leaves no doubt she will be grilling Steve about it.
Steve who look pink cheeked and didn't notice, when you stole one of his grey hoodies to wear because it was freezing outside.
He's not the only one who notices, Eddie was curious why you were late and at lunch Dustin looks at you wide eyed and points to the hoodie. ''Hey, that's Steve's"
The whole of Hellfire turn to look at you with varying expressions. Jeff and Gareth uses it as ammo to tease the shit out of you, Eddie is stunned and the rest are more interested in the campaign to care.
"Wait so you're dating Steve now?" Mike asks confused and you shake your head, though the thought of dating Steve gives you butterflies, which you ignore. No way are you entertaining what that means.
So yeah Robin knows, and now Dustin and the rest of Hellfire are aware that you and Steve are close.
"So you sleep together but not actually together?" Eddie asks looking confused and a little suspicious when you explain that you're spending the night at Steve's again.
"I can't explain it Eddie, it's just really nice and comforting, he's turning into a great friend" you say and Eddie grumbles and slams his locker shut.
"You have me, you can confide in me. We used to have sleepovers and shit all the time" he points out and you stifle a smile.
"Eddie we were kids then and besides you have a girlfriend who wouldn't he happy with that" he sighs and shakes his head, the look in his eyes concerns you. Did something happen with Stacy?
"We broke up, she was just too jealous and possessive. Last I heard she's dating some dude from the swim team now. Anyway, can we get back to you and Harrington"
You sigh and know that no matter what you say it's just going to cause him to be annoyed because he can't see that Steve is a decent dude.
He gets distracted by Gareth asking questions about the campaign but his reaction to Steve and news about his break up with Stacy is in your head all day, strangely it doesn't fill you with the happiness you thought it would.
Steve comments on your head being in the clouds later that night while he's making dinner and you shrug apologetically and let him know what's happened.
"Eddie broke up with Stacy" he stops chopping vegetables and his stance is suddenly tense, his jaw clenched.
"Oh, yeah? I guess that makes you happy, I mean maybe the two of you might end up together" his voice turns quiet and you want to know why he's suddenly went so... well moody judging by the way he's acting.
"I thought that's what I wanted but now I'm not so sure" Steve turns to face you and he looks less tense this time.
"Thought Munson was your dream guy?" he teases and you really don't know what that is anymore. So when the image of Steve as that guy enters your mind it throws you for a loop.
Well fuck.
A few days later you lay beside Steve, very sleepy and keen to ignore the beeping of his alarm. Steve is awake and absentmindedly tracing your arm with his thumb.
He looks lost in thought and you gently nudge him wondering what's going on in his head.
"Are your scars healing well?" you nod and narrow your eyes at him, you know very well he will look after everyone else first and himself last.
"Are yours?" he nods and you pin him with your best stern gaze that makes him laugh.
"Yes. I promise sweetheart. Shit, Nance gave me a telling off last time when I didn't" this makes you bite back a laugh but you know Nancy takes no prisoners so Steve will have been well and truly chastised.
He tugs off his shirt to show you and you pause as you remember the last time you and Steve were like this. That kiss...
The kiss that was so chaste and lasted only a few seconds but made you eager for more, kinda punch drunk and giddy whenever you remember it.
You focus on his wound thats completely healed and left only a tiny scar. Ever so gently you trace over it and your heart beats faster when you hear Steve exhale, then you kiss the scar tenderly, a soft sweet kiss.
"All better" you murmur and scarper out of bed when you hear Robin downstairs. Pink blooms up Steve's cheek and there's an ache inside you that wants nothing more than to bridge the distance between you and Steve, kiss him again.
You really were screwed.
❤️
Steve had a date. The words ring in your ears and you try to hide your reaction from Robin but from the way she's staring at you, it's obvious she knows something.
You had shower up at Family Video eager to see Steve and discuss plans for tonight, maybe Robin could stay over and the three of you could make a night of it?
However when you bring this up to Steve he suddenly went really quiet and a strange pit filled your stomach.
"Uh, I can't tonight honey. I have a date, you know the blonde who comes in here every Thursday for 60's movies, well she asked me out"
The pit in your stomach intensifies and you nod feeling incredibly foolish.
"I can cancel, I mean if you think there's a reason why I shouldn't go" he says to you and you shake your head. No, you can't be selfish and want to have him all to yourself. Maybe he really liked this girl and she could make him happy.
"Don't be silly. Go and have fun. Don't worry about me" you force a smile onto your face, you wouldn't ruin his opportunity for happiness just so he could comfort you. You needed to deal with this yourself.
Was it just your imagination or did he look disappointed when you said that?
Before you can figure out why that is, the girl comes in and she's gorgeous. Tall, blonde and bubbly with killer blue eyes. There's a full ache in your heart as you greet her and find out she's called Emily and works at the arcades.
Quietly you slip out and leave Steve and Emily to bond. All the way home you feel sick to your stomach, the realisation that you've fallen hard for Steve sinks in.
And he doesn't feel the same way.
❤️
It's getting pretty late once you finish watching one of the films you've rented. Its past midnight and you're eyes grow heavy sleep beckoning.
The doorbell rings and you jump, it's unexpected and you never have visitors at this time.
When you find Steve waiting outside you're definitely surprised.
"Steve? How was your date?" he shakes his head and you worry that it hasn't went well.
"What happened?" you motion for him to come inside and he shrugs off his jacket, then turns to you his smile tender, his soft gaze makes your heart skip a beat.
"She was great, she's sweet, pretty" of course she was perfect. Perfect for Steve, you smile brightly even if you don't feel so chirpy.
"That's great Steve" his hazel eyes capture yours and he shrugs, the intensity in his gaze is making you feel all fuzzy.
"Really? Doesn't feel that great, I should be happy but I wasn't because all I can think about is you"
Hope blooms as you take in his words and move closer to him. His knuckles graze gently across your cheek, you lean into his touch and he looks at you with complete adoration.
"You're amazing, you're beautiful and kind, I can't stop thinking about you" He pulls your closer to him and kisses you, elated you kiss him back and run your hands through his hair.
Soft moans issue from your throat and he pulls back smiling, then presses a gentle kiss to your forehead.
"You wanna be my girl?" he asks you and there's a shyness in his tone which is very endearing.
"I'd love to Steve"
Fin 💕

hey :) so i was wondering if you could incorporate 3, 12 and 50 into a single one shot ? bc that would be Amazing but if you don't want you you can just pick whichever haha
challenge accepted !! this was super fun to write thank you !! :^)
3, 12, and 50 for touch prompts: hiding face in neck + pushing a strand of hair behind their ear + putting a hand over the other’s mouth to shut them up
If you’d asked Mike, a few years ago, how he thought he’d end up dying, he’d have a few different guesses. Clawed to death by monsters, maybe, was up at the top of his list for a while there. Shot to death by government agents also made the top five more than once, which was kind of worrying. And it was probably very concerning that getting stomped on, impaled, or eaten by an alien supermonster hivemind was on there at all.
Suffice it to say that he didn’t die in any of those ways, since Mike is currently, in the present moment, alive. But probably not for long. He’s seen some shit, and he hasn’t even graduated college, and maybe it’s a little bit pathetic that after all of that– the monsters and the Russians and the end of the world– that this is how he really dies: backed up against the wall at some completely questionable house party, being flirted with by Will Byers.
At least, that’s what Mike thinks is going on here. If he’s being totally honest, he doesn’t have all that much experience in the flirting department, considering that the one person he’d ever dated hadn’t done much flirting and the one person he had maybe wanted to flirt with hadn’t–
Well, it doesn’t matter. Said person is doing it now, and for all of Mike’s past reminiscence and speculation on the topic, he didn’t think it would be happening like this.
“You look nice tonight,” Will is saying, barely audible over the low thrum of music in the background. They’re not even somewhere particularly loud– the hallway is a blessed reprieve from the chaos of whatever is happening in the living room, but Will’s voice has dropped into something low and intentional. He smiles. “You should wear more green.”
Oh, god. Mike is going to die.
“Uh. Really?” he says, in what’s definitely not a squeak. It comes out assured and confident and–
Oh, who is he kidding? Will’s smile grows, surely delighted at the unfortunate crack in Mike’s voice. He leans in a bit closer, and it’s barely a few inches, but he might as well have just pushed Mike up against the wall and–
“Yeah,” Will whispers, so soft that Mike has to lean in another inch to hear him. He reaches a hand out and runs a thumb along the hem of Mike’s sweater, the side of his wrist brushing softly against Mike’s collarbone. Mike’s heart stops dead, still and unmoving and seized up, right there in his chest cavity. “It’s definitely your color.”
“Oh,” Mike breathes, and yeah.
So Will might be flirting with him, is the bottom line here, and the issue isn’t so much that it’s unwelcome– the opposite, in fact. Mike feels a little bit like if he weren’t caged in by Will’s arm on one side of his chest and the adjacent wall on the other, then his soul might be just flying right out of his body altogether. It feels like maybe it’s already halfway there, because Will’s gaze is steady, eyes sparkling with amusement even in the dim light of the hallway, and wow, are his hands shaking?
For his own sake, he hopes not.
And the issue isn’t that it’s unwelcome, but more so that in all his years of existence and all the crazy shit he’s seen, somehow, being flirted with by Will Byers was lower on the list of things Mike thought might happen to him someday than interdimensional portals or his telekinetically gifted ex-girlfriend.
“You look nice too,” Mike gets out, in a surprisingly even voice. Will does look nice, so this isn’t a difficult sentiment to portray by any means. He’s swapped out one of his usual sweaters, big and worn comfortably around the edges and all down the seams, for something a little more fitted. It’s a soft cream color, and Mike doesn’t know where Will got this, because he’s been shopping at the same stores the entire time since they moved here for school and none of them carry clothes like this. Mature, a little grown up, and really, really attractive.
Will lets out a small, pleased noise. “Yeah?”
“How many drinks have you had?” Mike peers suspiciously down at him, because it’s not like Will is an idiot, per se, or super uptight about these sorts of things, but he’s not usually this– this bold. If Mike is going to be blunt about it, Will has never been this bold before and maybe it’s about time, but that doesn’t mean Mike is any more ready for it.
Not that he’s complaining. Oh, god.
“One,” Will grins. “Why? How many have you had?”
Christ. Mike swallows, and says, “Like, half. It was nasty so I just– um. Left it there. Heads up, by the way, don’t drink the jungle juice.”
“Noted,” Will laughs. It does something to Mike’s stomach, watching the way his shoulders relax, like he’s comfortable and at ease here, standing in front of Mike all up close and personal in a dark corner of a dark hallway with– oh, god– no one around.
“Yeah,” Mike says, kind of lamely, and notices belatedly that his gaze has settled somewhere around the general vicinity of Will’s mouth sometime in the last forty seconds or so. Maybe longer, if he’s being totally honest, but who’s counting, right?
(Mike. Mike is counting.)
“So anyway,” Will continues, without missing a beat. “You look really good in green. I don’t know why you never wear colors.”
“It’s not on purpose,” Mike insists, even though it kind of is, because it’s a lot harder to accidentally look like an idiot if all of your clothes match by default. “I don’t know, I just– I don’t have a reason to?”
“Okay, well,” Will starts, and then he moves forward until their chests are almost flush against each other, and Mike is seriously, seriously backed into a corner, even more than he was before. Both metaphorically and extremely literally. “It looks nice with your hair,” Will murmurs, and reaches a hand up to tug lightly at a strand falling loose around Mike’s face.
Will smells really nice, actually, like the good cologne he wears on special occasions, and Mike doesn’t know why he dressed up so nice to go to a party where you have to scoop your drinks out of a bowl with a red plastic cup, but hey. Again, he’s not complaining.
“My– my hair?” Mike asks faintly, because it’s just his hair, and he hasn’t ever given it much thought before now, because it’s only hair. Black and just long enough to land on this side of inconvenient, but suddenly Will has one hand in it and it’s not just hair anymore, but maybe the best thing to ever happen to him.
Will nods. He looks a little pink, which is quite possibly the most endearing thing Mike has ever seen, and it’s also more of a confidence booster than it probably should be, that Will hasn’t turned into a total smooth-talking Casanova out of literally nowhere. That maybe he’s losing his shit just as much as Mike is right now.
“Yeah,” Will says, and yeah, his voice catches just a little bit on the single syllable, and Mike bites back a pleased smile. “It looks really good with your hair,” he says again, then tucks the loose strand carefully behind Mike’s ear. “So that’s one reason.”
“I hardly think that’s good enough reason to redo my entire wardrobe,” Mike says, egged on just a little bit by the way Will is definitely turning more pink by the second.
“It brings out your eyes too,” Will murmurs, looking steadily up at him. It’s hard to tell exactly what he’s thinking– half his face is drowned out in shadow and the proximity is rendering Mike kind of useless altogether– but Mike thinks maybe he has a guess.
He blinks. “My eyes?”
“Mhm.” Will strokes the pad of one thumb over the skin there, just over his cheekbone. Mike instantly forgets how to breathe. Christ. “They’re pretty.”
“I– are you sure you’re not drunk?”
“Stone-cold sober,” Will assures him. “Why? Who’s asking?”
Me, Mike thinks, me, me, me. What he says is, “Um. Someone.”
Will raises an eyebrow, but he keeps his hand right where it is– resting on Mike’s cheek, thumb under his eye, and oh, god. Mike is going to die.
“Someone?”
“You don’t know him?” Mike tries.
“Shame,” Will says noncommittally, and it sounds like he might be on the verge of laughing again. He steps back, the vacuum-seal proximity between their bodies vanishing in an instant as the air of the room rushes in all at once– stifling, stuffy, a little warm and sweaty and immediately, it’s like the noise in the place has been cranked up to ten.
Was it this loud in here all along?
Mike is going to scream. He’s going to die, right here in the hallway, and then he’s going to scream some more. “Where are you going?” he asks, and it comes out a bit petulant and a bit needy and way, way too thrown off-guard for his liking, but he can’t find it in himself to care. The lingering warmth of Will’s palm against his cheek is something he’s already missing like it’s a physical thing.
“Who’s asking?” Will says again, and dear god, if Mike had known before what it would have been like to be flirted with Will Byers, he would have, like, grabbed a couple witnesses and signed off an early copy of his last will and testament, bequeathed his meager belongings to whomever they may concern, then laid himself down to die in peace.
“Me,” Mike blurts out this time, taking a step forward from the wall and grabbing Will’s wrist. “I’m asking because I think you shouldn’t go and you should just stay here with me and– and flirt with me some more, because, um. That was nice, and I liked that, even if I thought I was going to die for a minute there, and if you go then– um. You can’t flirt with me anymore?”
Will smiles for real this time, wide and shocked and pleased. “Yeah?” And it’s a little shy when he says it, like maybe he didn’t actually expect this to go anywhere, like he didn’t expect Mike to grow a fucking pair and stop melting into the floor long enough to reciprocate.
“Yeah,” Mike whispers, and he’s just started to pull Will back towards him, Will already stumbling a little with the motion, when he hears a voice from around the doorframe they’re currently maybe ten feet away from.
“Mike? Will?”
“Shit,” Will mutters, eyes wide. “What the hell is Max doing here? I thought she was upstairs.”
Mike opens his mouth to answer when a second voice responds, “I swear I saw them go through here,” and it might be Dustin and it might be Lucas but all that’s really important is that whoever it is is close, and Mike doesn’t know if he has the cardiac strength in him to go through all of this again later, and all of his brainpower is currently being used to not pass out on the spot, and–
Lucky for him, Will has his shit marginally more together. “Here,” he’s saying, then there are fingers wrapping around Mike’s forearm and before he can fully process what’s happening, he’s being dragged in the opposite direction. Will throws open a door, then shoves Mike inside.
Mike wrinkles his nose. “It smells like feet in here,” he says, and he can’t see Will’s face because it’s pitch black in– wherever they are– but he’s willing to bet real money that he’s rolling his eyes.
“Coat closet,” Will says simply, “now shut up.”
Okay, yeah, makes sense. There’s something heavy and soft brushing up against Mike’s side, and he takes a couple steps backwards until he can feel the wall behind him. God, okay. This is fine. This is fine. This is–
“You know,” Mike says, as if this will distract him from his unnecessarily sweaty palms, “you didn’t have to ambush–”
Quick as lightning, Will claps a hand over Mike’s mouth. “If you want to kiss me,” Will hisses, and, okay, he’s pressed up against Mike again, which is fine, it’s great, actually– “I’m going to need you to shut up.”
The footsteps come closer. Mike holds his breath. He thinks maybe Will is too because he can’t hear him breathe, and he’s gone tense and still where he’s pressed up against Mike. A voice that’s definitely Dustin’s is grumbling, “Man, if I find them and the taco place down the street is already closed, I’m going to kill him.”
Mike bites back a laugh. The taco place closed twenty minutes ago, which he knows, because he’d been on his way to find Dustin when he’d– when he’d run into Will in the hallway.
Oh, god.
“Are they gone?” Will whispers, as if his hand is not currently over Mike’s mouth. He clears his throat like hello, and Will drops his hand. “Oh. Right. Sorry.”
“Who said I wanted to kiss you,” Mike says hoarsely, and Will’s hand pauses somewhere between his collarbone and sternum.
“Well,” he hears Will say, still entirely invisible in the dark save for a few dots of faint light coming in through the slats in the door. “You don’t have to kiss me. If you don’t want to.”
For the first time all evening, Will sounds a little hesitant. No, Mike thinks. He can’t have that. He shakes his head, even though Will can’t see him. “Let’s not be too hasty here, okay, I didn’t say that.”
A pause. “Yeah?” Will says, a little shy, almost. “You want to kiss me?”
Screw it.
“I do,” Mike says, as earnestly as he can find in himself to muster up, and he hears Will breathe in sharply somewhere in front of him. “I really, really want to–”
To Will’s credit, kissing in the dark probably wouldn’t work out for anybody. Mike is a few inches taller and the angle is a bit off, and it’s pretty impressive, if he’s being honest, that Will’s mouth lands mostly on his. Which should also not be rendering Mike as totally speechless as it is– being kissed on the corner of his lips in an awkward, clumsily endearing sort of way– but Will has always surprised him. “Shit,” Will says, pulling back slightly, “sorry, I was trying to guess where you were, and I–”
“It’s cool,” Mike hears himself say, and he didn’t mean to say it, but it seems that his brain has sort of kicked itself into autopilot mode, because he’s reaching out before he can really think about what he’s doing. His hand brushes Will’s shoulder, and he moves it up against the side of his neck, and says, hesitating, “Here– let’s try this.”
“Okay,” Will says softly, not even a whisper with how quiet it comes out. Mike drags a hand into Will’s hair, brings the other one to cup his cheek, and slowly, slowly moves forward.
“I’m going to kiss you,” Mike murmurs, tracing a thumb over the curve of Will’s lower lip, grounding himself. “Um. Just so you know that I’m, like, coming in.”
“Okay,” Will says again, and then Mike kisses him.
It’s instantly better this time– so much better, Mike thinks, immediately going lightheaded with the sensation of it. It’s like every other sense is dialed up to eleven in the dark– Will’s hair soft against his hand, the scent of his cologne, the faint taste of orange soda on his lips. The soft, startled noise Will makes in the back of his throat, cut off like it escaped him before he could stop himself, and that thought is enough to make Mike’s stomach swoop in a dizzying sort of way, that Will really wanted to kiss him so badly that he just couldn’t help himself, that maybe he thought about it in all the same ways Mike had. That maybe he came up with a hundred and one ways it might happen and maybe this was a possibility, in Will’s mind– a coat closet in the dark, barely one drink in.
“I can’t see you,” Will says, pulling back so that their lips are just barely brushing against each other. He’s got his hands on either side of Mike’s neck, like he’s anchoring himself lest he drift away entirely in the dark.
Mike lowers his hands, pulls Will in by the waist– the solid planes of his back, the soft fabric of this sweater, this goddamn sweater– and says, “You’re the one that kissed me in the dark, you idiot.”
Will makes a small noise of affront. “You’re the one that asked me to,” he says, a little smugly, which technically isn’t the most true statement, but Mike supposes that he had kind of set himself up to be kissed, so maybe he should let this one slide. And then Will runs a thumb along to his chin, tilts his face down, slowly, slowly, and kisses him again– and Mike can’t remember what exactly it was he was protesting.
Maybe Will had been onto something, because Mike is pretty chuffed about not being able to actually see the person he’s kissing, especially when that person is Will, who Mike spent a disproportionate amount of time wanting to look at even before this whole thing went down, but this is pretty nice for now, he thinks, as Will presses him a little more firmly into the wall. And that’s also nice, because Mike thinks he might be dying, and the solid parallel weights of the wall behind him and Will in front of him might be the only thing keeping him from keeling over entirely.
“Okay,” Mike says, pulling back, which is nowhere close to his top ten most intelligent moments of all time. Or even twenty, maybe. “You–”
The rest of the sentence gets lost to the sands of time, because the door is flying open so fast that Will flinches, and Mike tightens his grip around his waist on instinct. “What–”
“Oh,” Max Mayfield is saying, arms crossed. “This is where you two disappeared to.”
Mike closes his eyes, and prays to whichever higher power might be listening for a rapid, painless death.
Nothing happens. Figures.
“Come on, man,” he hears Dustin say, “we were looking for you guys!”
“We know,” Mike says, and then immediately wants to sink through the floor and disappear at the way his voice cracks, just a little. It’s barely noticeable, really, but his friends are like sharks in blood-infested waters. Lucas’ smug grin grows so wide that Mike considers just leaning over and smacking it off his face.
“Oh,” he says, far too gleefully for Mike’s liking, “so is this what you meant by I’m going to go look for Dustin, Mike?”
“Didn’t realize I took up residence near Will’s tonsils,” Dustin grumbles.
Will groans, dropping his head to Mike’s shoulder. “Never talk about my tonsils again,” he mumbles against Mike’s collarbone, but he’s smiling. Mike can tell, even if he can’t see him.
“Not even if they’re inflamed?”
Will doesn’t pull away, just shakes his head and tightens his arms where they’re wrapped around Mike’s neck. Despite himself, despite the way his face feels about a million degrees warm right now, Mike smiles. “No,” Will says simply. “All of you go away.”
“Yeah, I bet you want us to,” Max says, “but I’m serious. We gotta go. Someone just threw up on the couch and it’s nasty in there.”
Mike wrinkles his nose. “Way to kill the mood.”
“Mission accomplished,” Max says, and wiggles her car keys in the air. “I’m leaving in five, with or without you.”
“I don’t want to stay here with the puke sofa,” Mike admits, pulling away with no small amount of reluctance. “So we should probably–”
“Yeah,” Will agrees, pressing a kiss to Mike’s cheek. “Now come on. I want to be able to see you when I kiss you this time.”
It’s a good thing the hallway is still dark, because Mike goes very, very red.

Life is a Game (and True Love is a Trophy)

Chapter 1
*Eddie  - 1986*
“That was amazing, Eddie!” Will exclaimed, with a wide smile.
They’d been playing for over 10 hours and Eddie was exhausted. He was only a few years older than the other boys, so he knew it was a poor excuse, but he was getting too old for these marathon sessions. Where he felt dead on his feet, the other boys looked like they could go for another 10 hours, no sweat.
It was well past curfew for the younger boys but since it was Saturday, and spring break, it hadn’t taken much convincing to get all the kids' parents to agree to the late session, as long as Eddie got them all home safe.
The small group said goodnight to Mike and Mrs. Wheeler before walking Lucas next door to his house. Then, Eddie, Dustin, and Will piled into the van. Technically Dustin’s house was closer but Eddie drove Will home first. He liked to drop his cousin off last, so he could stop in and say hello to his aunt if she was home.
Eddie was a little distracted during the drive. He’d been trying to keep busy for the last few days, anything to help him forget about the fact that it’s the anniversary of Steve Harrington’s disappearance, but today that had been impossible. How could he not think about the guy who inspired one of the main characters in a game they had just spent all day playing?
When it's finally just him and Dustin in the car, he allows some of his thoughts to spill over.
“It’s one thing that we use ourselves in this crazy story but do you ever think it’s fucked up that we kept Steve as an NPC after his disappearance?”
Dustin shrugged. “I don’t know, I mean, I didn’t know the guy. Mike always said he was an asshole, so, who cares?”
Eddie almost slammed on the breaks, it’s only for the sake of his beloved van that he didn’t. He can’t believe the kid would say something so insensitive.
“Dude he’s like your best friend, how can you say that!?”
“In the game, Eddie. He’s my character’s best friend, in the game . You always take it too seriously.”
An uncomfortable silence fell over them when Eddie didn’t respond, too upset and lost in his thoughts to make conversation. He pulled his van into the driveway behind his Aunt Claudia’s car and shut the ignition off.
“Mike was wrong, y’know. Steve wasn’t an asshole, not really.” Eddie said, as he followed his cousin up the path to the front porch.
Dustin stopped abruptly, turning on his heel to look at Eddie. “Wait. Did you know him? Were you friends?”
Eddie sighed. His feelings about Steve Harrington had always been…complicated.
“I knew him my whole life. We were in the same grade till I got held back, and it’s a small town. We were never friends, exactly, but I saw him almost every day in school. We talked sometimes in the halls, on the bus. Maybe he was a bit of a dick to people occasionally, but who isn’t? That’s what kids do. He was always nice to me.”
Dustin stared at Eddie like he’d never seen him before.
“I'm sorry, man.” He stuttered. “I didn't know. Why didn’t you ever say anything?”
It was Eddie’s turn to shrug. “I don’t really know. I guess I was trying to keep the real Steve and the game Steve separate in my head. I always thought he’d turn back up eventually. That maybe he’d just run away from home, and someday he would come back when he ran out of money or something.
“It could still be that. It's not like they ever found a body.” Dustin offered, not really sounding like he believed it, but wanting to be supportive.
“It’s been 2 years, almost to the day. The Harrington’s have more than enough money to hire fancy private detectives and shit. If he was alive, they’d have found him by now.”
*Steve - 1983*
Steve Harrington had just started dating Nancy Wheeler when Will Byers went missing. Later, he would be embarrassed to admit it, but at the time he was a little pissed off that she wanted to ditch their date to join in the search for the boy. The kid was probably just out playing and lost track of time or something. Everyone knew Joyce wasn’t exactly the most stable person in the world. He knew Hopper only humored her with this search to get her off his back.
When he told Nancy as much, she called him an asshole and stormed out. After sulking about it for an hour after she left, he realized she was right. He didn’t want to be that guy. He didn’t want to turn out like his dad. So, he threw some sneakers on and set out to join the search party.
He walked through the woods looking for Hopper, or anyone else who could assign him an area to search. It started raining before he could find anyone, and he was just getting ready to head back to his car, when he heard rustling in the bushes off to his left. He turned in the direction of the sound, squinting in the dark to try and see if someone was there. He thought he saw movement and then a twig snapped. It sounded loud in the quiet of the trees.
It was so dark out here, he wished he had a flashlight or something.
“Will?” Steve asked, taking a tentative step forward.
The only response was a quiet gasp from the dark. There was definitely someone there.
In a stroke of pure luck, the moon chose that moment to come out from behind the clouds. Her soft light illuminated things just enough for Steve to make out the shape of a small child with a shaved head, wearing a gigantic yellow t-shirt. This was definitely not Will Byers, but the kid sure did look like she was in trouble.
“Hey there, I'm Steve. Do you need some help?”
The girl stared up at him with wide eyes. She didn’t answer, but she hadn’t run away from him yet either.
He tried again.
“Do you want to get out of the rain? My car isn’t far from here.” He didn’t step any closer but held his hand out to her to take, or not, whatever she chose.
The girl studied him for a long time. She looked into his eyes like she was trying to read his soul. He didn’t know what she saw there, but it must have been enough to convince her that he was safe. She nodded, pushing her tiny hand into his, and the two of them walked together back to the warmth and safety of Steve’s car.
-
It wasn’t ideal, bringing the girl back to his house, but at least his parents were out of town. Once he’d gotten her into the car he had tried to take her to the hospital, or at least the police station. She’d shaken her head slowly, ominously, and uttered the first words he’d heard her speak.
“Bad men.”
Steve didn’t know what to do, he was in way over his head. He needed help. He needed people much smarter than him to tell him what to do. The idea occurred to him to take her to Nancy’s. She was smart, and a girl. Surely she'd be better suited for this, she’d know the best course of action to take. But, the girl refused that too. She seemed to only trust Steve.
Tired, and out of options, he went home.
He gathered some dry clothes for her, old sweatpants and a Hawkins High swim team t-shirt from his freshman year, and sent her into one of the guestrooms to change. The clothes would be huge on her but it’s the best he could do for now.
It was late and he kind of expected her to just go to bed once she changed. They could always figure things out in the morning. But, a few minutes later, there she was, standing in his doorway, looking around the room curiously.
“It’s okay, you can come in.” He said, as he shut the closet door. “In fact, why don’t you come sit down. I think we should talk about some things.”
She looked hesitant, but joined him, cross-legged on the floor. She still hadn’t said more than those two words to him but clearly she could speak, and she understood him fine, so he had to try. They’d start small.
“What’s your name?” He asked, voice gentle as he could make it.
She shook her head.
Somehow he knew it wasn’t a refusal, but more like a confusion on her part.
He pointed to himself. “Steve. People call me Steve. What do people call you?”
She pressed her lips into a thin line and held her shaking wrist out to him.
He was confused at first, until he noticed the small writing there.
011
“Eleven?” He asked.
She nodded vigorously, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.
That was, well, it was so not good. Shaved head and a number tattooed on her arm. Steve wasn’t a genius but even he knew that something was seriously messed up here. Who would do this to a little girl? Where were her parents?
“Is that what your parents call you?”
“Parents?” She sounded the word out slowly like she was saying it for the first time.
“Yea, like your mom or dad? Mama or Papa?”
“Papa" She agreed, nodding. "Bad man.”
O..k. Well that certainly answered some things.
“Is that why you were in the woods tonight? Were you running from Papa and the bad men?”
She nodded.
That was enough for tonight, he decided. They were both tired and he really needed some time to think, to make a plan.
“I think we should get some sleep. We can talk some more in the morning. Okay?”
She blinked at him and nodded again. She definitely preferred non-verbal communication. It didn’t bother Steve, he could roll with it.
“You can sleep in that other room, the bed in there is really comfy.” He said, rising up off the floor as she did the same.
“Where do you sleep?” She asked.
It was a little jarring, hearing her string together a full sentence like that. It was stilted, the way she spoke. Obviously talking wasn’t something she did very much.
“Here.” He answered, motioning to his bed. “This is my room. So i’ll be right across the hall if you need anything.”
She looked over her shoulder at the doorway and then back at Steve. She made no motion to leave.
“Would you rather stay here?” He guessed and there was that little smile again.
“Safer in here, with you.”
Steve’s heart broke. He kind of hadn’t thought about it until that moment, the night had been so full of weird things and it had all happened so fast, he hadn’t realized how utterly terrified Eleven was. He wanted to fold her up into his arms and squeeze her tight. Promise her that he’d keep her safe from the bad men of the world.
But he couldn't do that. He couldn't promise anything when he had no idea what was going on. He wasn’t sure if she would welcome his embrace either, so he held himself back. Instead he got into bed, scooching all the way over to the wall, and then patted the big space he’d left for her.
She crawled onto the bed and almost immediately curled into a ball. He watched her as she settled on the pillow. She looked so small. He vowed to himself that he would do whatever he could to protect her. He’d hide her in this house forever if that’s what it took. He didn’t yet know what she’d been through, but he knew it was bad, and something no little kid should have to go through.
The rain had turned into a storm while they talked, and it raged now on the other side of his window. A loud crack of thunder startled them both. Eleven was shaking again. Steve laid his hand out, palm up, on the bed between them. An offering of comfort he thought she might accept, since she had taken his hand in the woods.
She hesitated for only a moment before placing her hand on top of his.

Night Shift - Steve Raglan/William Afton x Female Reader + Mike Schmidt

You stare open mouthed at the empty steel cabinet before you. Whatever it was that had terrified William so badly is now free.
You gradually become aware of footsteps nearby: loud, metallic, something with tremendous weight making contact with the concrete flooring. You don’t want to know what’s making that sound; you have to see exactly what it is, for Mike’s sake.
It’s more difficult to navigate the maze of corridors without the older man’s guidance. You’re relying more on following the auditory trail of disturbing sounds than visual memory.
The noises are getting louder. You’re getting closer. You’re finally starting to recognize where you are now.
Something towers ahead of you. One of the animatronics? It certainly looks like it. The rabbit, maybe. Except it’s the wrong color. A sort of sickly yellow instead of blue. Part of one ear torn off. Dark openings where pieces of the mascot had been destroyed, exposing the innards that were never meant to be seen by human eyes.
You duck back around the corner before the suited figure sees you. It’s standing outside the security office, observing the interior of the room. Your heart is pounding so loudly it’s a wonder it can’t be heard. You risk another glance. Still standing there, watching. You think you see something silver glinting in one hand. Is it a knife?
The rabbit takes a step forward. You ease into the hallway. It doesn’t seem to notice you. It takes another step and you continue to creep forward, keeping yourself pressed against the wall, tucked into the shadows. The figure has to duck to enter the office and you take the opportunity to close the remaining distance in time to see it lunge towards Mike who’s fallen asleep, head pillowed on his arms.
One swift tug and he’s wide awake, pinned against the wall, the gray hooded sweatshirt beneath the security guard vest bunched in a steel encased hand, heels kicking futilely as he is raised to eye level with the seven foot tall mascot.
You had to help him, but how?
“Sleeping on the job? You really are useless, aren’t you?” The synthetic voice is vaguely masculine. The yellow rabbit pulls your friend away from the wall and then slams him back again, Mike wincing in pain when his head connects with the concrete. “What your ex girlfriend ever saw in you I’ll never know.” He relaxes his grip and the security guard drops to the floor, groaning.
You freeze. How did he know about you?
“How…how do you know…” Mike asks, echoing your thoughts.
“I know everything that happens here. I own this place, after all.”
“You’re the owner?”
“I am. I’ve heard a lot about you, Mike Schmidt.” The contempt is clear even through the modulated voice. “None of it good, I’m afraid. Your former girlfriend on the other hand, quite a different story. Did you know she came to the office right after you had your first little ménage a trois? Desperate for more.”
William had told the owner? After everything you’d done, and he’d promised not to, and…You feel a wave of nausea roll over you at the betrayal.
“Steve’s full of shit if he told you that. She never would have—”
“—But she did. Dressed up and everything. So upset when she got turned down. Then she made plans to meet at the movies. What? Did you think that was a coincidence?” The encased man chuckles as Mike stares at him, open mouthed. “It was all over for the two of you the second Steve Raglan walked into this room that night.”
There’s no way he could know about it unless William had told him. What other intimate details did he reveal? Why would he share that with the owner? It made no sense.
The rabbit’s lit eyes flick towards the Nebraska poster taped to the wall and he rips through it, the image of the forest shredding, the pieces cascading down in a gentle rain of fluttering paper. “Maybe I should have taken you instead of your brother that day at the park. Just put you out of your misery right then and there. You’ve made an absolute mess of your life. Can’t hold down a job. Can’t keep a girl. Your sister will probably thank me for this one day.”
“You…you took Garrett?” Mike gasps, his eyes anguished.
“I wouldn’t say take. He came along pretty willingly. They all did.” He shoves Mike when the fallen man tries to stand, the heavy costumed foot pushing him back down to the floor. “But if it’s any consolation, he died with more dignity than the others. At least he was quiet about it. Didn’t struggle. Just like going to sleep.” The butcher knife—that was exactly what it was, thick and long and viciously sharp—rolls in his palm, the steel encased fingers deftly moving the handle back and forth. Another chuckle emerges from the depths of the suit. He’s enjoying this. Toying with the fallen man. Gloating. Prolonging the moment and savoring it. How long had he been planning this? Why was tonight the one when he’d finally decided to confront him?
Mike struggles to rise again but the rabbit’s foot returns with a vengeance, this time kicking his chest, driving the air loose.
You wince, clamping a hand over your mouth to stifle any sound. There’s no way you were going to be able to confront this guy head on. The element of surprise was about all you had going for you. But what were you going to use as a weapon? What could possibly stand up to this suit, damaged as it was?
“Stop resisting, Mike. You’re fighting a losing battle. Take a page out of your brother’s book and bow out gracefully.”
“Why him? Why take him? He was innocent, he did nothing to you.”
“Of course he didn’t. I never said he did. I don’t need a reason. I’ve never needed a reason.”
No. No, no, no. It couldn’t be him inside of there.
You recall standing before William, the words mirrored.
Do I need a reason? Have I ever needed a reason?
There are things in my past.
You’re going to hate me one day.
Suffice to say I have my reasons to use an alias.
Now you know my best kept secret.
He never told the owner anything. He didn’t have to. He is the owner.
“William.” The name escapes before you can stop it as you enter the doorway.
The yellow rabbit’s head turns towards you sharply. “You’re not supposed to be here.”
You can hear it now, underneath the voice modulator: the cadence of his words, the inflections and nuances. It’s him. Your eyes dart to Mike who’s staring at you wide eyed.
“Why are you here?” The voice is no longer arrogant and cruel. It sounds weak, tired. Dissappointed.
“It’s Mike’s birthday. I was just bringing him…William….”
He reaches for the headpiece, fingers tucking beneath the jaw to lift it free. It falls to the floor with a loud clank.
“What the fuck…” Mike stares at the profile of the figure in front of him. “Raglan?”
William’s hair is plastered wetly to his forehead, the pale eyes that are fever bright softening when they see you. “Sweetheart…I didn’t want you involved in this.”
“William, please listen to me. You have to stop…”
Cold metal fingers dart out and swiftly seize your throat, shoving you back through the doorway and against the wall. He’s not squeezing, just holding you in place. “Oh, honey. I tried so hard to keep you away from this. I tried to give you what you needed. Tried to be what you wanted.”
Your fingers futilely prying at the steel hand trapping you grow still. Twin tracks of tears spill down your cheeks. “You did give me what I needed. You are what I want,” you whisper.
He groans and it’s an echo of the wounded sound he’d made that night when he’d come to pick you up when your car had broken down. Regret. Longing. A life full of so much destruction, a darkness he can’t seem to escape. His mouth crushes yours.
You know you’re supposed to be terrified of him. Repulsed by him. He’d killed Mike’s brother; killed others too from the sound of it.
Still your body melts against him. Moth to flame. You can’t help it. You cannot choose to only love part of him. The ugly darkness is not separate from the good you’ve seen in him. Brought out of him.
You hear the knife clatter to the floor.
You taste William Afton’s surrender.

PLEASE READ THIS IS ME TRYING FIRST, AS THIS STORY RELIES HEAVILY UPON THE CONTEXT OF TIMT
Tumblr media
January 22, 1988
Dear Will,
I’ve always hated seeing you get hurt. Whether it was Lonnie, One, or me inflicting the harm, it’s one of the worst feelings in the world to see you in pain. But this morning, you were in a new kind of pain, one that I’ve never seen you in before. You had a hangover. One that you never intended on having in the first place.
I was startled awake when you bolted upright and ran to the bathroom around 6:35am. I followed you, because I wanted to be around to help you in case you were still somehow drunk, but you whacked me away. I totally understand why you did that– I wouldn’t want you to see me like that, either. I’d barely stepped out of the bathroom when you called my name, apologizing and asking me to stay. So I did. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t have thought twice about walking away. I probably would have even considered staying to be an obligation rather than a desire. But I lowered myself down onto the floor beside you, rubbing your back comfortingly as you threw up a few more times. I didn’t even flinch.
Once you’d gotten it all out and were able to stand up, I helped you back to bed before going back to the bathroom to grab you an Advil from the medicine cabinet and a cup of water for when you’d inevitably wake up with a migraine later. I laid down next to you and you shuffled in closer, nuzzling your nose into my neck. “I’m never drinking again,” you told me, and I huffed a sad laugh in reply. By now, you’re definitely aware of the effect you have on me. I’d do anything for you. I think I might care a little too much. I always have. Which is why I’m kind of upset that you completely disregarded your own morals for the sake of peer pressure. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not gonna pull some “Just Say No,” bullshit, I’m just… I don’t know. I’m probably reading too far into this. I just don’t want to see you in pain, is all.
Anyway… Party Movie Night is next Friday. I’m running out to get your Reese’s Pieces tonight so I don’t forget. Let’s just hope I don’t eat them all before the box reaches your hands. You’ve got me hooked, man.
Love,
Mike

With Randall stuff, I’m very much someone who doesn’t care for redemption ideas or angst for the sake of angst. I’m not someone who’s entertained by characters crying over something they have no reason to cry about. It doesn’t enrich their character or make them anymore sympathetic than they already are. (Oh boohoo you’re sad you faced the consequences of your actions or life didnt work out how you planned. Are you actually going to do something about it or just wallow?) Randall’s much too vindictive and proactive for that, imo. He hasn’t shown the signs of suffering enough for that well-constructed outer layer to break.
Randall’s a character who has been written in the main movies and the spin-off show as someone who felt anxious at one point, yes. Felt the sting of failure and defeat. But certainly not remorse. He’s acted in his own self interest consistently, using other people as a step up in the hierarchy. Perhaps some of the connections he’s formed have some genuine aspects but ultimately Randall is a self serving person. He wants to succeed so that he is remembered.
But, if we want, we can look at where Randall has expressed guilt. There’s two instances we can point to: 1) Randall losing at the Scare Games and 2) Randall being banished by Sulley.
Number 2 I don’t really dwell on because it’s a moment we know only happens because Randall’s lost the upper hand. He’ll do anything to get out of that predicament, and that includes groveling. Randall’s no stranger to kissing ass or even lying to get his way. He regrets it because he got caught, and he’s afraid of what he’s being faced with. He’s losing.
Number 1, however, is worth thinking over. Because it’s not just about Randall’s embarrassment and the beginning of his heated decade long one-sided rivalry with Sulley. It’s his reaction to disappointing Johnny (and, possibly, the rest of his team). He is completely, utterly confused, and it shows all over his face that he has no idea what just happened. For something he hasn’t quite mastered control over, as a result of another’s interference, he has utterly failed himself and Johnny. And Chet, low tier, mistreated Chet, gets in on the ridicule. And this is where Randall’s only true moment of regret occurs. Not for Mike, not even truly for himself. It’s about his reputation, and the reputation of his fraternity, of his only “true friend” that he makes in the movie.
MAW emphasizes a “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” pattern with Randall. Randall is an independent character who acts alone, but he still looks for that approval (everyone does). But he doesn’t respect anyone in the cast enough… except for Johnny. He’ll do a favor for his friend. He’ll put up with irritating an old sports injury for a friend. He’ll scare the new kid for a laugh and to see that friend laugh.
This is his “bestie” from college, who he apparently holds no ill will toward for almost replacing him with Sulley. It’s almost like if he were in the same position, he’d have done the same. There’s an equal level between the two in MAW that’s not there in MU due to Johnny’s status as frat president and Randall as the last minute replacement. In MAW, we instead see Top Scarer Randall and CEO Johnny, putting them in a dynamic closer to that of Sulley and Waternoose. But whereas they didn’t see eye to eye, Johnny and Randall are one in the same in terms of ideals, with very similar goals. And they are unburdened by an age gap and business relationship that demands professionalism.
They’re frat brothers, who’ve seen each other in all sorts of parties, mishaps, and emotional woes. Randall was probably at the guy’s wedding. I think it’s safe to say even if it’s mostly business, Randall still sees him as enough of a peer, gets along with him well enough that Johnny’s the only opinion he cares enough to hear about in our current cast.
So who exactly would Randall change for? If he were to be guilty again, what would it be for? Randall has no reason to regret what he’s done. The only people who’ve objected to his plan have been Monsters Inc. “dorks and losers” and the temporary imprisonment just adds to the misunderstood genius complex. What he has in mind to succeed is worth it. It’ll all be worth it. And Johnny agrees. And that’s the only important thing we know.

Expand on current narrative that means byler? Because biased based theories aren’t a narrative I could argue a whole theory that Joyce and Karen want to get down and dirty with time and screenshots and easily led “narrative”
Although i'm not as articulate or as expert in expressing my opinions on this as I would like, i'm willing to try my best to explain to anyone who will politely listen.
Quick note: Using "bias" would mean that I treat Byler with higher status, and that I don't listen to any Mileven perspective, even if it's objectively the right one. Both ships have a shot, I just lean to the Byler side, but that doesn't mean i'll never listen to a Mileven. I'm more than open to hear why that perspective makes sense to them.
That being said, the first thing I would like to say is that technically, yes. You could argue that Karen and Joyce would be into something like that. But it's obviously not anything like Byler, specifically considering that there isn't a love triangle situation going on between Joyce, Karen, and Hopper.
Again, you are correct in the sense that these are simply theories, and anything can be the outcome at the end of the day, but it's more likely for Byler to happen than Joyce/Karen. The relationship between Mike and Will has been explored far more than an example like that. By that comparison, Byler's chance skyrockets.
-Karen/Joyce haven't had scenes with [tender, emotional music playing],
-Karen/Joyce haven't had the most obvious queer coding,
-Karen/Joyce haven't been confirmed by the Duffers that one has been canonically in love with the other through the whole show,
-Karen/Joyce don't have a famous love triangle where people debate wether or not Joyce wants to leave Hopper for Karen,
-Karen/Joyce aren't being promoted along with the other couples in posters or general media for the show,
-Karen/Joyce are not in a similar situation to Byler.
Now that we've established which is more likely, let's remove the comparison, and talk of Byler generally.
I've always said: there's always a ship for anything. So it isn't really a surprise that there were big Byler stans back in 2016, and I can't count that as proof. What's bigger proof to me is how many people have become stans now. There's such a large community of Bylers on tumblr who genuinely believe they'll end up together, and they're dedicated fans. I've seen this show sixteen times, and the past six watches have given me confidence that they stand a good chance. Their story makes sense to me in a lot of ways, mainly being the general idea for the love triangle.
Let me explain the Byler plot through my lens.
Imagine this: Two best friends since kindergarten. One day, Boy1 meets Girl. Their friend group keeps insisting that they like each other, so Boy1 gives in and says, "Why not? It's all part of growing up anyway, right?". Boy2 becomes jealous and sad that Boy1 is pushing him away for Girl. What Boy2 doesn't know is that Boy1 and Girl aren't the happy couple he thinks they are. Boy1 feels unfulfilled in this relationship, and he feels strange about his friend. In hopes that these feelings leave, he pushes Boy2 further away. Because of obvious tension, Girl confronts Boy1 about why he can't say "I love you". And it's simple. He can't say what he doesn't mean. Friends don't lie. Girl and Boy1 know they aren't in love, but for the sake of normality, they pretend. (Next is my idea of after canon) They eventually talk about everything, and feel at peace. They become best friends who want nothing more. Boy1 grows more comfortable with his feelings for Boy2, and they even flirt sometimes. Something dangerous has returned to their small town, and stress is high. Through this stress, their bond is even closer, and they confess the years of feelings they have. Maybe a smooch?? Who knows. They're secret for a bit, but when they tell people, everyone is happy for them. Boys who've been pining for years, but couldn't say anything about it because of heteronormativity(rip), finally have their happy end.
That's a dramatic run down of how I see their relationship going. Again, you don't have to agree, but since you asked, that's how I see it. There are also other things that aren't in the show itself, that I find interesting. They constantly promote Byler along with Jancy, Lumax, and Jopper, meanwhile El always has her own posters/pictures. They use a song between Lumax for a Byler scene (we know how important music is). Mike's top Spotify song is "Smalltown Boy", a song about being gay in a smalltown and wanting to run away so you can be out. There's also "Are Friends Electric?" in the playlist (I think the title explains itself). Honestly there's a lot his playlist says, but those are my top picks for kinda fruity.
ANYWAY, i'm sorry that this was a bit long, i'm just not one who's very good at explaining what I mean with fewer words. I hope you understand better why I see them becoming a thing, and why I wouldn't say it's an unfair bias. I think both have a chance, but this is my take on why this makes more sense to me. Thank you for asking! This took me way too long to write, but I hope it helped.

Before I go, rough scenes that would’ve been in CTA <3
The chain snapped, links disentwining with each other, and the catwalk fell slanted half into the water. Will screamed, grasping at the remaining chains as it rocked and swayed wildly, creating attention-grabbing waves in the tank, “Shit!”
A strong woosh shook the water as Mike swam up, leaving a trail of bubbles in his path. He peered out of the water, investigating the rusted metal invading his space, his eyes trailing up to Will, where an expression that could only be described as hunting formed on his face, “Fuck…” Will whispered, quivering like a leaf as Mike’s dorsal fins flexed, his claws glinting as they came out of the water, “Shit- hey- Mike!”
Claws scraped against the catwalk, scratching off the chipped paint as Mike dragged himself onto it, slowly getting closer and closer to Will, “Mike!” He yelled, trying desperately to get away, but his feet slipped around, and he couldn’t reach any of the other chains, let alone try. He’d throw the weight of the catwalk and send himself diving into the water.
Mike’s teeth bared, and a growl rippled from his throat as he advanced on his prey, his pupils becoming thinner and thinner in his frosty eyes. He was actually going to do it. He was going to tear Will apart.
“Mike!” He wailed, tears springing in his eyes. No, no, no, no, “I-It’s me! Mike!”
Mike began to crawl over him, raining salty water on Will’s clothes as he grew closer and closer, “Mike!” Will sobbed, his breath heaving in his chest. He kicked his legs lamely, but against Mike’s tough tail, the impacts didn’t phase him. He had seconds left until teeth ripped into his neck, dooming him with a gruesome demise he’d seen Mike deliver to fish.
“Mike! It’s me- you know me!” He screamed as Mike was finally hovering over him. His long tail remained dipped in the water. He felt like a giant.
Mike growled a satisfied, excited rumble and stretched his jaw, a harrowing sight into his gaping mouth, long pointed tongue, and rows of razor-sharp teeth, all too familiar to those of a Demogoron.
Will screamed in terror, eyes squeezed shut, “For fucks sake, it’s me! It’s Will! Please Mike, please please-”
He flinched, nearly letting go of the chains when something touched his face. Or rather, hit it, but it oddly didn’t feel intentional.
Will, struggling for breath, cracked his eyes open and blinked away the veil of tears to see Mike’s aggressive mannerisms had softened. His dorsal fins were no longer flexed, and his pupils had expanded again to near-circles, like a curious feline.
The claws of his face created surface-level cuts, but again, it didn’t seem intentional as Mike pressed his mouth like it was a button, expressing curious confusion.
Will didn’t move. He didn’t dare breathe, only allowing himself a blink of surprise when a sound came from Mike.
It was sweet, unlike anything else he’d heard from him before. It wasn’t the chirp he’d given Nancy on the first day. It was like a purr, vibrating deep in Mike’s throat, “Mike…” He whispered a weak breath Will barely managed.
Mike drew back, eyebrows furrowing, and for a moment, Will was petrified he’d ignited the predator instinct inside Mike’s brain again until, once more, Mike pushed at his lips, his own pouted. Will’s heart no longer raced in just fear, “Mike…” He whispered, gaining his courage back in spouts, “It’s Will… You know me… Your Will…”
His elf-like ears twitched, the webbing around them fluttering, but beyond that, Mike didn’t react for a short while. He stared for what felt like a lifetime, perfectly still like a picture aside from the drops of water sliding off of strands of his hair, and then-
“Will?”
Will’s grasp on the chain loosened in shock. It didn’t sound like Mike knew him. He pronounced the letters more like a hissed ‘With’, but his name was clearly familiar, like the misty memory of an old friend.
Will supposed that’s what he is.
Will opened his mouth again to respond, to try and urge more from Mike, or maybe just to break into sobs, but a screech cut him off as a tranq dart embedded itself into Mike’s neck.
“Mike!” He wailed as the other boy fell from the catwalk, creating a large splash, “Fuck!”
He spun to the culprit, Nancy, who could barely keep her grasp on the tranq gun.
“Will!”
Will woke with a yelp as he was dragged across the floor, “What-”
“You were asleep against the tank!” Jonathan exclaimed, “What if Mike had hit the glass?”
Will’s stomach twisted in dread at the thought, but when he looked into the tank, Mike wasn’t aggressive. He was curled up, asleep right where Will had been, pressed to the glass on the other side. Jonathan realised it too. His words trailed off.
Will’s heart hammered as he realised Mike had curled up beside him on the other side. He could’ve killed him. He could’ve slammed his tail into the glass and shattered his skull, but he hadn’t.
He’d swam to Will and slept beside him.
Will sniffled, “Can you even understand me?” He asked, and Mike tilted his head at the words, but it was clear he didn’t grasp them.
--
Mike swam in a perfect circle, his spine bent inhumanly far. It made sense, Will supposed, that Mike’s bones would have plenty of leeway. A lot of fish don’t have bones, and if they do it’s often flexible cartilage. It was still eerie to see him create a perfect hoop. He sighed and turned away, resuming his moping.
Mike knocked on the tank, making Will flinch. He had a frustrated crease between his eyebrows, and once Will was watching him again, he twirled like a ballerina and created a circle out of himself.
Will paused. With every stunt, Mike would glance at him for his reaction and then perform another. Was… was Mike trying to cheer him up?
The thought alone conjured a hopeful smile, and Mike mirrored it.
“Will!” Jonathan yelled, “Don’t! He’s tricking you!”
Will clenched his fists. Maybe Jonathan was right, but in his heart, Will couldn’t believe it. He still knew Mike. He recognised the stubborn glint in his eyes.
Mike circled in the water below. His fins were not raised. He swam in a calm pattern. He wasn’t eagerly awaiting to rip Will to pieces, at least, Will hoped.
But if he were to die, there was no other’s hand he’d accept to kill him.
--
Over the thumping of his heart in his ears, he could barely hear his family’s screams as he stepped off, plummeting into the water below.
Time froze for a minute. Water gushed around him, and after a moment of shock as the freezing water encased him, he kicked his legs to the surface.
It felt like any minute he would feel claws shred open his stomach, and his chest convulsed with the urge to take frantic breaths.
He broke the surface with a gasp, catching his breath. He looked down and he couldn’t see Mike, and fear curled in his gut. He tried to still himself, to control his breath and slow his heart in case the echo of the beats in the water reached Mike’s impressive ears and triggered some sort of predator instinct.
“Will!” Joyce cried, but her son ignored her, “Will get out of there! Will!”
Will wiped the water from his eyes. Where’s Mike? He thought, but something brushed against his legs, and it took everything in him not to kick in panic and scream.
He spun around, but nothing was there. When he turned again, he gasped.
Mike peeked out of the water slightly. His nose and below was still underwater, but his eyes were fixed hard on Will.
They weren’t skinny slits, Will noted. His claws weren’t at the ready, and his fins weren’t flexed, so he wasn’t about to immediately be torn into, but Mike wasn’t relaxed either. His eyes were ovals, rounded, but guarded, and there was a safe distance between them that Will guessed wasn’t for his benefit.
“Mike.” Will gasped.
The other boy cocked his head curiously. His eyes scanned him up and down slowly, and Will’s heart jolted as his pupils thinned.
Apparently, Mike didn’t find what he was looking for, however. Whether it was a weapon or something else like food, Will wasn’t sure, but upon not finding it, he relaxed again and dipped below the water.
Will remained achingly stiff, so much so that it was hard to stay above water as Mike swam around his legs. His hands grabbed Will’s calves, his claws making surface-level cuts. It was accidental, and when Will hissed and flinched, Mike let go like he was burned, something apologetic in the way he nudged his head against Will’s stomach.
Whatever investigation Mike was performing satisfied him, and he returned to the surface with a chirp, copying the bounces Will’s kicks caused.
Will deflated with a shocked breath. Mike hadn’t attacked him. Mike wasn’t attacking.
He looked to his family, who were just as shocked, watching the scene with bated breaths, “Hey,” Will whispered, clearing his throat when it came out weak, “Hey.”
Mike eyed Will’s mouth, eyebrows furrowing. A confused bird-like purr vibrated in his throat.
--
Will ghosted his hand over Mike’s tail. The scales were incredibly smooth, and the gel-like, transparent skin on his dorsal fins, between sharp, dark supporting bones, shimmered like an oil spill.
He was beautiful.
Mike was stiff, twitching every now and then as Will trailed his fingers over Mike’s body. Will couldn’t imagine anyone had ever touched him gently. Mike watched him investigate with nervous intrigue, almost like he couldn’t believe Will wasn’t hurting him. It broke his heart.
--
It was getting harder to breathe. Will never wanted to leave the tank, but his fingers wrinkled, and his legs cramped. He groaned quietly, looking to the rope ladder and decided he’d sit on it and use it to hold himself up, but when he turned and swam toward it, a clawed hand grabbed his ankle and yanked him back.
Will jumped, “Wha-”
Mike didn’t growl perse, but his purr was definitely unhappy. Will stayed still, cautious, and when Mike’s face untensed, he tried to swim away again, but once more, Mike dragged him back with more force, enough to send him flying through the water for a few moments. and he placed himself between Will and the exit.
“Mike-”
He grumbled again, harder this time.
On the ledge at the top of the tank, El lifted her hand, ready. Joyce’s leg bounced rapidly, Jonathan bit his nails nervously, and Nancy shifted, her hand creeping closer to the tranq gun.
Will frowned, “Mike,” He kicked his legs sluggishly, “I’m tired.”
He let himself fall beneath the water momentarily to demonstrate, then rose and pretended to cough, taking a deep breath.
Mike finally seemed to get it, and something akin to panic flashed in his eyes. He grabbed Will’s hands and put them on his shoulders.
Will’s eyebrows shot up. He expected Mike to let him swim away, not to support him, “T-Thanks.” He stammered and swam backwards slowly to the ladder, holding Mike’s gaze.
He breathed in relief when he sat on one of the bars, giving his legs a break, and Mike relaxed when he saw that Will wasn’t leaving.
--.
“We know he won’t hurt me.” Will shrugged, “If I’m there, he probably won’t hurt you, either.”
Nancy scoffed, “And if he does? What makes you think you’ll be safe if I piss him off?”
--
Mike swam up to him, letting Will wrap him in a hug and leaning into it. He purred happily, “I missed you too.” Will chuckled as they parted, and Mike was smiling until he saw Nancy prepare to go down the ladder.
His head snapped to her, and he growled softly as he moved and tucked himself into Will’s side, who held him tight and swiped his thumb over the patch of soft, shiny scales on his ribs.
“She’s not going to hurt you.” Will assured him, and despite not understanding the words specifically, Will’s calmness bled to Mike, who stopped grinding his teeth.
Nancy took slow steps down the ladder. Her bright swim dress made it clear she wasn’t hiding any weapons, but Mide stayed cautious. They couldn’t blame him. With the amount of times he’d been tricked or hurt by similar stunts, it would be odd if he trusted them blindly.
Nancy swam over.
--
Mike looked at the hand snapped his teeth. Nancy gasped, yanking her fingers back in terror, but Mike didn’t try to hurt her again, and when she looked at him, he was grinning mischeviously.
They gaped in disbelief.
“You-” Nancy scoffed, and Mike didn’t laugh, but his chirp was close enough.
He’s still a little shit. Nancy laughed and found herself ruffling his semi-dry curls before she could catch herself.
Mike flinched like she’d hit him, staring at her with wide, icy blue eyes and thin pupils. His fins flexed, and she drew back, expecting him to pounce but his reaction melted into something vulnerable and glossy-eyed, and he knocked her hand with a carefully closed fist until she hesitantly did it again.
It hit her that Mike couldn’t remember a lick of happiness in his life. He couldn’t remember their mother’s forehead kisses, or Joyce’s tight hugs, or Jonathan’s arm around his shoulders. Mike, in this state, had no idea what kind affection was like. He’d never experienced it.
Okay xxx goodbye everyone. I’ll keep my account up but I’m deleting tumblr and Twitter x
