星汉灿烂 • 月升沧海 Love Like the Galaxy (2022) | Finale Ep. 56
Honestly one of the best historical romances I’ve ever watched and not just for the incredible romance of the two main leads but for cinematography, the unparalleled acting of ALL the cast and the incredible script. Humour, angst but love — all kinds of love — and loyalty and nurtured relationships. A palace drama that almost didn’t differentiate between royalty and commoners, one where family trumped the fight for the throne, where women were generals, fighters, warriors, kind, generous, so intelligent and so loving. One of Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei’s best shows ever, truly. And a show and script that put not just the two leads but EVERYONE in the spotlight (especially Consort Yue and Wendy I see you Wendy)

damn, people really still have opinions like "this eldritch horror game where your paranoia manifests into real literal tentacles that kill you has an unrealistic amount of women and people of colour in it" and think that's a real proper criticism that should be taken seriously, huh?
embarrassing tbh.
meanwhile, cool and interesting people who are worth listening to are saying things like "hey you ever notice how ingfell resident never uses gendered pronouns when referring to her partner? they could be someone of any gender! that's really cool, i love that :)"

i honestly dont hate the ATLA adaptation but im definitely not entirely happy. when comparing it to the original they made a lot of the core ideas, arcs, conflicts, and characters kind of just….flat. and they also changed a lot of central motivations for characters and the things that made them so excellent, and misinterpreted a bunch of them, so yeah. some things were too rushed, and it all took away from a lot of the things that made atla such a meaningful show and a powerful teacher
that being said, it was kinda expected because they had to condense the whole thing into a few episodes, and ATLA is rly not a show for which you can do that easily, so i gotta cut them some slack. nothing will live up to the OG and thats that. BUT there were also some GREAT bits of acting in there PLZ can we talk about it because certain characters were captured really well (FOR THEIR ADAPTED SCENARIOS.) as well as great representation
i would honestly not mind a second season because it really was not all that bad as a show, independent of the original. it was engaging and had just enough humor and anger and sadness to be a well balanced show overall, i dont think its aim was to be a perfect recreation of the original

Something i rlly dislike abt Ganyu's characterization in fandom is how ppl see her being read as a stupid weak stereotype, and they just retaliate with another stereotype but from the other end of a spectrum.
She can be strong, competent, knowledgable and have very important role in the Liyue Qixing for years, but also be kind, humble, avoiding conflicts and NOT always knowing everything. those are not mutually exclusive!!! Yes she's old, no that doesn't mean she's now perfectly confident, knows everything and is good at everything. She's not some untouchable, divine being, better than everyone else. Stop removing humanity from her, when that's the whole point of her identity!!!
When i see overly confident, dominant, bitchy, smug, flirty Ganyu i start throwing rocks bc that's not Ganyu, begone impostor.
I just want Ganyu to be actually herself. Not a submissive secretary caricature. Not a dommy mommy caricature. JUST Ganyu, with all her complexity, strengths and weaknesses.
It's like treating Ganyu's personality as inherently weak and boring, so in the act of "justice for women" ppl just remove it and replace with a caricature of a strong woman. It's driving me insane when those "women defenders" are just slandering them, without even thinking abt it. If someone thinks a woman being quiet, kind, humble, avoiding conflict etc. is inherently "misogynistic" and needs those traits to be completely removed and replaced, then they just hate women

man I'm glad I decided to read a game of thrones as a way to take notes for how to write rose... I just read about a huge battle with thousands of soldiers and it was so well done... now am I going to write a battle? no fucking way I don't hate myself that much but I know HOW to execute it in a very easy to visualize way and that's what's important

people on this god forsaken site genuinely call the loki show queerbait is maybe one the most obvious shows of people's lack of media comprehension so far. like if yall think disney is gonna make the two masc lead characters of an mcu show gay for each other or even that they're hinting at it with a hand on the shoulder or a little but of eye contact, then that's on you. fans reading into basic friendship cues is not the same as intentional queerbaiting. especially when one of them has a very clear fem love interest. none of you would have survived the superwholock days lmao.

seeing people get so upset about aspects of the end of succession has increased my need to finish the show tenfold. having never been able to project onto any of these characters, i just LOVE me a show where i can watch people suck and make the worst choices possible and be fucking miserable with zero hope forever n go "LMFAOOOOOO YEAHHHHH LIE IN THAT BED. I LOVE THAT YOURE SO FUCKING SAD AND NOTHING WILL EVER FEEL OKAY FOR YOU AGAIN. anyway back to my real life filled with incredible people whom i love so much because i'm not one of these Motherfuckers"

What I was supposed to do today: many many things, many of them overdue
What I did do: spent probably just a little under an hour trying to find a good outfit to go see Barbie in, since I only have one shirt that's half-orange half-pink, plus pink nail polish and eyeshadow and body glitter for my face.
Anyway, this movie was SO worth being the first one I've seen in a cinema since before Covid started, and there were so many women there dressed in various shades and states of pink, and everyone laughed a lot and took group pictures afterwards and the cinema was just packed, on a Wednesday evening, with so many women in pink talking about which barbies they had and what they did with them. It's a good movie, really, I had a lot of fun with the jokes and the songs and the silly Kens-fight scene (I think they were only missing those pool noodles to beat each other with) ✨🎀💗
Oh, also, 100/10 for the scene where a dude grabs Barbie and she immediately punches him, zero hesitation 🙌💃🎀💗
