Clippings: How It Was Made
This piece was generated from a very cool writing prompt game hosted by The Voidspace Magazine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted the piece that be fluid, so that there was no specific order that the three sections had to be read in. I wanted it to feel like a series of memories that can bubble up at any time unbidden. So, I modifed a template I found here:
and made them into an infinity card:

Want to make your own copy? Here's the template:
And here is a little tutorial I put together:
If videos aren't your speed, I also made this photo guide:

Feel free to customize it with watercolors, colored pencils, stickers, anything! I'd love to see your booklets if you feel comfortable; just tag me in a post or reblog!

Last Line Tag
I got tagged again! By @nonsenseramble =D
This one is shorter, as it is the actual last line written this time.
Odea sighed and laid back to stare at the ceiling, wincing at the pointy weight of cat feet on her chest and stomach, “I could never ask him.” But she would.
Tagging some people I don't think I've tagged before and leaving it open to everyone else, because why not.
Do it or don't, I'm not your mother.

Find The Word Tag!
Thank you for tagging me! You can check out @indecentpause's post here!
The words I was given were: desert, stream, tree, snow, and rain
I'm gonna mix it up a bit bc my three wips aren't...super long? I'll start with Theodore because we actually do have the word "rain" in his wip. After that, I'm going to cmd/ctrl + F the keywords until it tells me there's 0 out of 0 results. Then I will backspace one letter until a result does come up and I'll share the first excerpt.
Without further ado!
Rain
Theodore stares at the gray skies. His umbrella cries the tears that he can’t. Theo watches the droplets drip drip drop into the grave and considers the irony that it’s pouring rain today. Of course it’s raining today. It’s been pouring everyday. Figuratively, emotionally, physically. Downpour.
Desert Deserve
Residing atop Belle’s palm, The Spider looks to The Reaper for guidance. Belle rises up tall and confident and full of grace and mercy.  “Did you deserve to die?” she asks with a sorrowful lilt.  The Spider doesn’t react. The Spider doesn’t move. The Reaper doesn’t react. The Reaper doesn’t move.
Stream Strength
The Maintenance Man knocks gently on her front door, “The Reaper? I’m back to fix your wall.” “It’s still open.” Belle's voice comes quietly, definitely not the same strength she had before.
Tree True
Light takes a careful step towards Time. They read them from head to toe, almost as if looking through them. Time’s stature doesn’t give away their true sense of anticipation and nervousness.
Snow Snake
Belle lays defeated in her bed. Today she has learned that her ceiling has approximately 64 tiles (though she’s not certain because some are not full tiles). The weight on her chest feels heavy enough to cave in the bed beneath her and the floor beneath it. She wonders if The Python and The Snake would mind having a sunlight window. Maybe they would just be mad that they no longer have a roof. Regardless, any scenario would be easier to handle than whatever the fuck is happening right now.
And there we have it! I hope you don't mind the way I improvised, I haven't put a lot of the story down on paper yet.
Gentle tags to @dyrewrites @fleurtygurl @inkspellangel @aledradio @allison-dedecker + Open Tag!

There is a Place for you Here*
You may not believe it.
You may not, as yet,
be able to see it-
but I promise you love,
you’ll come in from the cold
to a spot on a softly worn couch with a throw; find
your seat at the table with plate steaming full.
You’re not on your own- you’re just on your way towards
the someone who’ll stand at the window, their face pressed
flat to the glass: eyes scanning, ears raised. (You coming home’s
the best part of their day.)
There’s a place for you shimmering at the end
of the sands; past stones piled to mountains,
among waving, reaching grass. A place to cool
your wandering heels, tuck weary wings; expand.
*You may need to make it and that’s ok too.
Sometimes, the one who is waiting is you.
-Allison DeDecker, 2023
Notes: This poem was written as part of a collaboration with a mixed media art piece (see below), as part of the local library's annual Art and Poetry Exhibition.
Entitled "There's a Place for You Here," it was created by local artist Katalina Banaga (unfortunately I can't find her on social media anywhere otherwise I would link to her page here.)
It's hard to capture in photos, but there's a polished mirror inside the beautiful painted frame. Across the top left corner is the title phrase. For the exhibition, the artists first created their pieces, then each poet was allowed to choose one (or more) to write an accompanying poem. This art really spoke to me; the idea that wherever you are (not only physically but also within your life) there's a place for you. You belong. I wanted my poem to encapsulate that, to give comfort and hope to whoever needed it.

Voidspace Magazine is using my piece, Clippings, for their pop-up prompt!

There's also a prompt from a piece called Cross-Sections; which involves using photo manipulation in order to embed images in letters and then writing a poem with the letters for added layers of meaning. It's very cool! So if you are looking to scratch a creative itch, check these out!
