Rewatched The Awakening and having some Thoughts™

First, Katara, my baby, not me literally crying during my break in the backroom at work bc she's just so strong and so hurt and so brave. Her conversation with her dad will never not break me. I hate that Katara has ever gotten heat for actually being open to discussing her pain. My girl is brave and strong and lovely and the boys aint got shit on her.

I love the realism of this conflict. I love the way she so clearly lays it out and understands herself but is so lost on how to go forward which like, FAIR. The contrast of how excited she was for any news on her father in the Bato episode, to this, is just heartbreaking. She deserves a good reunion and yet because of the war, her family has been ripped apart and even when it comes back together she still carries those scars.

Second, how anyone can reach season three and watch this episode and still think Aang is a one note character or still the same childish figure he was before. He also breaks my heart in this episode. The adultification is wild, it's hard to watch him here and remember, this is a kid, a 13 yr old. It's someone who's experienced death, who feels the weight of the literal world on his shoulders, who's failure means losing an entire war, and he's so broken over it and it's like, No, Aang, honey, please. Have some grace for yourself.

Him in the water just, accepting death for the second time is so morbid and so sad. He's just ready to give up. Truely his lowest point. And going from his hurt at the mere idea of having to cover his arrow, to him literally burning his glider, which can never be replaced, like, how much more can he lose. He really has sacrificed everything for this war and yes I will sit here and cry about it thank you very much.

Third: speaking of these two, I think my favorite scene in the whole episode is unironically the one where she snaps at her dad and Hakoda walks away and Aang's like, "Are you mad at your dad?" All concerned and she's just "No, why?" And Aang's face kills me it's hilarious. Like, good job Aang, that was the correct answer. Him being like, something is clearly wrong and she clearly is also not ready to face it so he just shrugs and is just like, sure, okay.

Honestly, the whole interaction makes me laugh. The way Aang looks up at Hakoda like, oh yeah, the father of the two most important people in my life, the one they almost left me for, and also a world leader and so someone important to the position of the avatar. Ah. And then Katara seems to be mad at him and Aang's just, he just woke up from a coma, ksnfmsnfnd, he is not equipped to deal with this rn but he does it anyway.

Just, ugh, that second he stares at Katara before shrugging cracks me up so much, you can so clearly read what's going through his mind.

Anyway, I think this is genuinely one of my favorite episodes, I will always be a Book 3 stan.

first of all THEY HAVE MATCHING DESIGNS!!!! rapunzel drew out all of their tattoos and she made these two specifically to represent them as a trio….the birds being. self explanatory of course and the sun, moon, and earth representing rapunzel cass and eugene respectively….:3 this also was meant to kinda match the twins mobile i designed for my fic. These ones in particular are SOOO important to me

i’ve never shown cass’ properly since they’re on her back but one of eugene’s is visible here….along with the sun and moon you mentioned, the sun crest and the brotherhood symbol…..:3

THE SECOND ONE is just something i made up but the real world flowers that i’ve always associated with minne bc of their similarities are forget me nots…. which. the symbolism and name of i think are VERY fitting with cass’ character. she just really wants to be important and like. Remembered fondly by people methinks. like she’s afraid of one day disappearing and (in her eyes) there being no point or reason for her existence in the first place.

these are the only ones i have set in stone for NOW but most of my tattoo hcs for rapunzel came from just. Pomni is a depressed, anxious little cat who keeps getting soggy despite her best attempts to get dry. She's so sad and keeps getting knocked down and that feels like the bisexuals I know and love. She probably smokes cigarettes with shaky hands and stares at the wall in the shower. Such a little loser who probably bites. Love her.

#2 Ragatha- trans and lesbian

Lesbians love sewing!! I thought I was a lesbian and I sewed then!! In honesty I made Ragatha a lesbian bc I can't stand ragatha x Jax I have to stop it at all costs I'm sorry. I feel like she's an elder gay she has such a maternal energy to her. Pomni loves it Ragatha gets the blow dryer when she gets soppy again. Also my impulses are to make every character transgender and same sex attracted.

#3 Jax- trans and gay

I made him gay so I can have him all to myself. Half jk he's my favorite character so I projected the shit outta him. He's gay and trans because he's got that t-boy swagger and I wish it so.

#4 Gangle- ace/aro

This one is also projecting. I just think it's funny if Zooble reads through Gangle's 200,000 word novel and they ask her "You're are/ace why are you even into this" and Gangle just shrugs. I think she has a shirt of the contemplative wolf and loves it unironically.

#5 Zooble- genderfluid, pansexual & ace

Bold to assume Zooble gives a fuck. They feel what they feel when they feel it, a real go with the flow thing. Zooble and Gangle are best friends, they smoke and listen to queen on the grammaphone Zooble has bc they're cool and vintage like that. I fucking love Zooble they're unbothered, moisturized as they can be in a circus hell scape and satisfied.

What a crazed man. Look at him. He's definitely sexually experimented with men before he met his wife but never realized it had a label until Pomni told him. What a wife guy you know Queenie was his whole world he loved her so much. It was breakfast in bed for her everyday. He can't cook though so it's probably fruit loops and frozen waffles. He probably has a homoerotic relationship with Caine where they're both oblivious to how they sound to other people. He's just trans he's always known that. He has chest scars. Magica De Spell is her favorite villain, hands down. Movie wise, I'd say it's either Fantasia or Robin Hood. yknow as much as the (deserved) inazuma backlash has clearly changed hoyos writing for the better i do think there v much is one completely wrong lesson theyve taken from it and thats incorporating story quests into the AQ sequence (and specifically how theyve never attempted it again)

the concept itself was Never inherently bad. in fact it unironically has a ton of potential bc you could lessen the need for sudden character specific exposition in the AQ AND pull off way more high-stakes and timeline-specific plotlines in the SQs by ensuring players will experience it at the intended place and time.

the issue was that they introduced a bleak depressing inazuma in the middle of a fucking civil war and then went omg AQ on pause!!! lets go to a festival with ayaka and u will be her first friend ever OwO yoimiyas is at least vastly better written and actually involves the VH and sakoku decrees so its always been a favorite of mine but even then im sure theres things worth criticism in there its just been 2 years so i cant analyze it off the top of my head. but the greatest offender has always been the way ayakas comes with such a complete tonal dissonance it just takes you out of the atmosphere they spent the entire act I building up.

and it rly makes me sad bc i Know hoyo took the backlash about interrupted pacing and disjointed tone as "ok story quests bad as AQ requirements" when its like. no the one you wrote just sucked

AQ incorporated story quests need to have a damn good reason to be mandatory at that specific point and while its far from perfect i DO think yoimiyas fulfills that! but ayakas doesnt! at all! and like im realizing the issue is also in how genshins made it a standard that a character must receive a story quest Instantly on release. so i guess ayakas had to be in between acts I and II for plot reasons but like. that being the case then the story quest itself shouldve focused on a completely different theme as opposed to her very predictable tropey personal problems that werent even explored properly imo. like im sure plenty of depth and nuance in her characterization was lost in translation but i almost cry laughed the first time the restaurant vendor went "oh ayaka is lonely because she is so perfect that no one sees her as a friend but instead an aspiration" like what in the 3rd grader writing mary sue self insert fic tarnation 💀 you couldve worded that exact same concept in 12 different ways to make it actually sound poignant and you did That SHAHSKSJSKDLJH

(and a quick addition before i get accused of being a blind hater hater lmao. here goes: "the burdens of miss ayakas position as the public face of the kamisato make it difficult for her to shed the mask of practiced perfection. i think people struggle to see her as a person whod enjoy simple things in life like friendship just like everyone else when theyre so used to viewing her as an unreachable figurehead." there. now its way more clearly nuanced. this took me 3 minutes and is far from any fluid writing yet. the difference is staggering)

but like. as a result this ambiguous timeline limbo most story quests end up falling into is genuinely a shame bc i do think theres potential in attempting the ayaka n yoi thing again but with characters for whom it makes sense and actually enhances the AQ experience by necessitating it. and yeah yeah ik genshin wants to be casual friendly so they dont want to force ppl to do quests they dont like for AQ so its unrealistic to expect them to ever try it out again but man

as long as they pick the right place and time and characters for it they could massively alleviate the issue of some story quests contents ending up feeling like somewhat empty fluff bc they cant assume what point a player will be in the main plot could be so they lack actually impactful lore and or character beats.

obviously im not a writer at hoyo and idk how much backlash the ayaya/yoi situation got them but like. idk. taking the lesson "never do anything like inazuma again" isnt rly what id consider the full picture. inazuma does suck and has clunky moments throughout but like in 2.0 people were still hype! inazuma had good ideas and concepts and attempted sth that couldve been great the issue isnt inazuma bad on all levels its that they never delivered its potential and 2.1 was an incredible letdown.

So my interest in all things TD was reignited a few years ago and I joined this discord server to gush about it. But Sierra, being one of my fave characters, was blacklisted to the point that any “positivity” about her was a no-go.

It doubly sucks because I liked (still do!) Scoerra before it was cool (as All Stars was coming out on CN) and I was explicitly discouraged from even talking about them on the server. There was a lot of rules the mods and their besties were allowed to (and often did!) break but no one else had a pass, period.

It made me lose my interest in TD. But now I’m hearing that Scoerra had a Renaissance a year ago or so?? There were more fans of it, both ironic and unironic? More art and fic that I’m only learning of right now? But some of it has been lost? That’s crazy, I almost feel robbed of having experienced it.

Anon the fact that you were shipping scoerra AS all stars was airing??? Your mind must be HUGE. It took me YEARS to start accepting td crack ships. Like even when I started this blog back in 2020, I knew that I liked heatherra, but also I was more partial to canon ships. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?Uhhhhh angstiest one that I've ever written involves a d4dj zombie apocalypse AU that features multiple deaths, which ends with some wildly unhealthy AoRika sacrifice. That fic is probably never getting finished, though, so. Rip. Angstiest that's been posted is probably Lavender Blue, a Love Nikki fic I wrote after reaching the part where Lunar died.

Oh god I don't even know which one to answer for this one. Proooooobably "Crumbs of the Whole?" At least out of my longfics, that's the happiest one.

Not recently! I've never gotten a nasty comment on this account so far, but I've definitely gotten some flames in the past for writing characters they didn't like, and writing angst when they wanted a happy ending. Lmao.

I don't normally write crossovers, though I do have a Sunshine/D4DJ one I'll get around to eventually. Craziest one was probably an unironic Vocaloid/Transformers one I wrote back in the day that I think I took down?

Unfortunately, no, but if anyone wants to give it a go, I've got blanket permissions for it on my profile!

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Yep! Excluding the 100k+ RPs I've done over the years, I've also written a fic with @zinziinziiin — "Road Tripping", an AyuKarin we wrote for IFHeaven's hunger games. I also co-wrote a Warriors fanfic on FFnet back around 2013-2014, but I don't remember what it was called or who I wrote it with. I believe it was taken down at some point, though, so it's a bit of a moot point.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

DiaRiko or KaiMei.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

"How It Feels", a future fic centered around Ruby navigating how different life is for Aqours when she returns to Numazu after going to school for tailoring and finding Dia in an unhappy marriage and the events of getting her out of it. It was a longfic that I kept thinking about, but never got around to writing out in full. I doubt I'll ever have the steam for it at this rate, especially since my focus is elsewhere these days.

Prose and internal narration, I think!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue and pacing are the biggest ones I struggle with.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

No real strong thoughts on it in itself—though if the POV narrator is supposed to understand it (and by extension, the reader) I'd at least like the meaning able to be gleaned from context so I don't have to scroll to the end for the author's note translation of the conversation before having to scroll back to where I was; if you want readers who do not speak the language to be able to follow along, that's really not a good way to go about it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Disney fairies fanfic when I was like. 8 or something. The first fandom I wrote for while consciously knowing what fanfic was? Proooooobably MLP??? It's been over ten years and I don't remember SHIT, lmao

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Even after all these years, it's still gotta be Dia-nial. It's a disaster, it's a shit show, it's a shitpost that sprouted an actual plot, but my god is it a delight to write and reread. It rides the line of taking itself seriously while also not; it's stupidly funny until it kicks your teeth in. It's not my most refined work—not by a long shot—but I really do think it's my most lively fic to date.

i love it when people unironically love homestuck bc it was a huge part of my adolescence and some of its part may have aged poorly but it still has a very special place in my heart <3 anyway i have a disappointingly normal question for you about it. who's your favorite character

I like Jade! I've always wanted to be like a half-animal half-human character, and I liked her upbeat attitude! I also liked that she was very no-nonsense with Karkat, who I found aggravating at the time (he's grown on me since).

I think Homestuck is a very interesting case of a bunch of stuff all mixed together. There are references to popular media and memes, and allusions to the English literary canon. And the classpect system is such a fun way of breaking down character & theme. It definitely had a lasting impact on my adolescence.

1.Your first OC ever? technically when i was really little i had an imaginary friend that was a blue dachshund i think that counts but i never drew her. so the next first i think is night the umbreon (behold my art from 6th grade)

5.If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? u kick miette. i cant say the cats bc u cant separate them. either keppi or wyndi bc keppi's design really went off with the antlers and tail but also wyndi is maybe my favorite of that trio so its hard to choose. keppi i guess.

24.If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why? HARD. refrichi is my best friend like unironically if i were to do self insert stuff which i am not admitting to in any form she's my best friend. but i feel like i dont need to say her bc i already have amazing friends. actually i really want to meet void we're very similar but in opposite directions & also completely separate people that are very different from each other. we would be best friends that get along perfectly and also hate each other and try to kill each other. how any given interaction would go is a spin of a roulette wheel. it would solve like 7 of our existing problems and create 18 new ones. i think i need to say void.

38.Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer? depends on what kind of dancing but chira & cestria are influencers they've definitely learned dances to show off to their audiences

7. Which player voice actor is your favorite and your least favorite?

To probably no one who has seen an ounce of my content ever, I'd listen (and... have... by playing) to the Male Agent for hours. I think I'm up to 3 male agent ocs and the urge to make more? Constant. Inescapable. More than likely inevitable, tbh. I'm a glutton for the punishment of Imperial Agent story, apparently. Just leave me where I lie, there is no saving to be done.

Female Smuggler gets an honorable mention as well because I adore her. I adore the humor of smuggler. I adore the sass, the take no shit.

THEY HAVE THE RANGE!

Anyway, my least favorite is... probably either of the Jedi Knights, I think. Side by side, they don't feel as distinguishable from one another as some of the other classes. The job is done; I've played both at least through the class story and I wouldn't mind doing it again just looking at voice acting, but I feel like other classes have a bit more pop and variety. Or maybe I've just played my Knights too predictably akdfnlksdnflsdf.

8. Name your top favorite companions.

Oh man. Oh boy. How do I pick??? Y'know what, maybe I'll choose violence. Maybe I'll pick my favorite from every class. I've played them all. I could do that. (It's just as daunting to consider as it may be to read.)

Preface: I think my faves are largely story-based in my reasoning - I like their story, I like how they're engaged in the story, etc. Very rarely do I swap companions because of a felt need in gameplay given everyone's capability to do anything, but I have done so for story reasons.

Okay, I decided I'm insane enough to try to pick one from each, so since that's quite a list, find that beneath the cut:

We'll start with Agent, my beloved, and Vector. The Friend The Agent Needs. No more need be said. I want to hug them. I hope he's having a good day. One day, I'll do his romance, too. Dot stop playing male agents challenge. (I'm such a creature of habit.)

Bounty Hunter's a tough call because I found myself fond of practically the whole damn crew. Real found family vibe. Idk if I love one of them so much over the other as much as I just appreciate the crew's dynamic overall so, so much. The level of interaction and mingling with the crew just felt so much higher or hit so much harder than a lot of the others that I'd rank BH as a class story relatively high on my list solely for companion interactions.

For Sith Warrior, again, to little surprise if you've heard me open my mouth, Malavai Quinn. Ironically and slightly unironically my "he did nothing wrong" bastard. I'm, unfortunately, so incredibly attracted to this smart idiot of a man. The repression of feelings to explosion of passion and dedication in his romance is chef's kiss kind of shit. They're lying if they're trying to convince me that this man isn't a disaster bisexual. He's just. So insanely pretty. I'll forgive him even if I ever make a character that won't.

I think Talos is probably my favorite Inquisitor companion. Whoever said we were robbed because we don't have an Inquisitor x Talos romance in-game? You're so right. Dude has a cool name. Love this history nerd. He's so incredible. I am so pleased he was still being bright and bubbly on Elom. Miss him.

Trooper is hands down Elara. Constantly tip-tapping like a very excited, happy dog when I see I can talk to best girl. I love her story. Her romance is incredibly sweet. She's the single thing that got me through a 2nd Trooper playthrough.

Smuggler's another no competition in favor of Bowdarr. I want to give this Wookie so. many. hugs.

Kira Carsen for Jedi Knight. Again, no competition. The friendship is so, so sweet.

And Jedi Consular is a tough one to round out on. I have a lot of love for basically the whole crew, but I think I'll have to go with Qyzen for being bestie original MVP. I'm so glad we get to build a friendship with him because I don't think we get to see Trandoshans in quite this same light anywhere else in the game.

And also Theron Shan. I can't do this list without him. Sir, I'd die for you. Sometimes you're an idiot and I love you. Insert, after all, why shouldn't I romance Theron again meme here.

Honorable mention to Major Anri. I'm love her. If I have to fuck with her directly in saboteuring of the Empire, I'm going to feel SO many emotions. Keep me in your thoughts kan;fladnkfl;dsf.

MY DAY OML!! uh uh school was ok math was a breeze(4 once!!! we talked abt triangles and i truly did Understand the Assignment), there was one Weird down where my drama teacher got at me for making a trans woman pun??? (she said the boy next door became a mummy what was i SUPPOSED to say besides being proud abt her having a child!!) definitely got my opinion uhhh interestingly changed about her. we've just hung out since i got home, went on a walk and my ✨poor poor directionally challenged self✨ was able to actually lead for once! i got us to a place AND back and i am SO cool for that. currently waiting to get some chinese food bc we got picky eaters(what was available to make wouldn't work for them) and leftovers didn't sound good for some of us(SADGE i wanted to play around with the queso...)

The real reason Donnie sound-prooved the lab is bc he plays League of Legends on his nights off.

Which we all know, is when the evilest and most toxic part of your personality comes out.

So he would listen to fnaf songs and his usual stuff while having the time of his life or just repeatedly screaming: "DO YOU EVEN FUCKING KNOW HOW TO PLAY THIS GAME??!???!??" at the screen. While raging very hardcore.

He does only play once or twice a week to avoid permanent aggression. As to reduce usual aggression towards his family and not feed that and make him rage off in the middle of the day.

Okay but

Mikey definitely knits and sews. That's his thing. And he makes his brothers those knitted animals you see on Pinterest

And oh me gosh the shenanigans that he could pull,,, but mainly i am convinced his brothers love and support him so much <3 bc he is the youngest <3 and idk i always love supporting my little sister when she's a big fan of something and i think it's really sweet. Like

Ralph gets mostly the stuffed animals, and he has a. Lot. Of them. But yk, you can never really have enough <3 because of his big rough shell and body he can't always squish and hug his family, specifically his siblings, as much as he'd like to, so the animals help him get some of his energy out <3

Leo gets the cool accessories. I'm talking: really awesome gloves, that goose bag from the pic, oh yes he unironically loves it. Knitted jellyfish ?? That he loves and adores so much that he shows to every person coming into his room?? A mini money purse that is shaped like a frog and can be opened by opening the frogs mouth????? Yes bitch. That's his stuff.

And ofc Donnie gets most of the knitted and sewn hoodies and jackets. (Head Canon that he also wears lots of robes just like their dad in the future, just really joggy and lose outfits)

Mikey even tried to replicate the purple jacket(!!!!!) As best as he could and after LOTS of hard work. And lots of investment of time and other bodily fluids. He gave it to Donnie on his birthday. You could say that Donnie rubbedd it very much in everyone's faces <3

(Mikey also made knee for Leo bc he and donut are twins, but the Leo agreed with Mikey that he'd get his a day after their birthday just to let Donnie have his fame and happiness for the day)

After Mikey's success with the purple jackets, he went and started in the designs of official mad dogs (!) Jackets!!! (It'd be a surprise for new years or something)

Donnie also gets.....!!!

Those knitted cat ears that you can wear on your headphones but also normally <3 Donnie, after that, only owns headphones with those car ear covers that Mikey made for him <3

Also cannot forget our main girl April ♡♡♡♡

She's a big big big autumn fan (no I'm not projecting) and Mikey made her some small mushrooms in various sizes and colors. And a tote bag with a strawberry pattern!!! Which is her favorite in the world!!!! (Also every Halloween he comes around with an outfit for Mayhem, i mean yeah mayhem can't hold still and doesn't wanna wear em but THEY LOOK SO. FREAKING CUTE ON THEM <333333)

Splinter gets socks. Because he's old and he complained about cold feet (he did also get a blanket for his tv chair. With which he falls even faster asleep)

Draxum also got some socks and a robe. So now he and splints are the tired dads who deserve retirement <3

And Mikey? He loves loves loves seeing how happy he can make his family <3 he loves to get inspired by the humans fashion sense and goes to social media to see what else he can put into his works. He always tries to find something new that he can somehow connect with his passion of creating!
