So… what's the idiot envious of, exactly???
So I noticed it when reading BoLT, but the Silm also says (back in Ainulindale) that Melkor was
envying the gifts with which Ilúvatar promised to endow them [Elves and Men]
OK. Which gifts? Professor, sir, which ones? The only thing that makes half of a sense here is the out-of-Musicness of Men, let's leave this for later.
Elves' harmony with Arda? Melkor is an Ainu, he has this innately.
Elves' cool skills? See above.
Them liking each other and being able to have a normal social life? Nah, the Valar (those who aren't jerks) have this too I suppose. He would be envious of them too.
Men being able to leave Arda? Again: as an Ainu, Melkor is innately bigger then Arda… OK, I suppose he would like to come and go as he pleases, go to Arda and be as harmonized as Elves, and then leave freely… but nobody has that! I mean ok, I can see how he overestimates what the Incarnates have and talks himself into envy, but this feels somewhat stupid and counterproductive even for him. (Ofc if we were to assume that Men originally had both, it does become easier to understand… But then also we're getting near the "aren't Elves kinda nerfed?" landmine, which gives me some trouble in general)
OK, now let's talk about the out-of-musicness. I think Melkor assumes that he's got this too, I think? "It came to Melkor's mind to add themes of his own invention" or whatever the wording is. And tbh all the Ainur have the quality of "having existed before the Music", so… OK, I can see how he maaybe would be envious of the Men being able to ignore the Music after it was sung, and maybe he is (subconciously, I think) aware that he can't do so. And this fits well with the story of children of Húrin, which is basically "Melkor proving to Húrin that Men are bound by doom too". So… it's not like the Men have a lot of this ability, it seems. In general it does not feel like a wholly satysfying explanation.
Still, why is he envious of the Elves too? Because Féanor made will make the Silmarills? This sounds like a stupid reason even for Melkor.
And don't tell me about the Second Music, because then we're back to the category of "Melkor is an Ainu, he has that innately". Well, had until he got himself kicked out from the orchestra, but this happenned a lot later.
Unless it's the "I was here first and I'm better, so why do they get to have the cool stuff too?!?" which I feel is a slightly different vibe of envy (is this even proper envy or just jealousy?) than what Tolkien was going for. (But the "why new baby so loved?" syndrom about Manwë and then about incarnates makes Melkor even more similar to Feanor, which I like).
Like… there is the vibe in the Silm that Men-and-Elves are getting sooo muuuch and so of course Melkor is jealous… but when I unpack it, what are they getting exactly that he did not? Professor?
Oh, and also in BoLT Ainulindale: "the giving of that gift of freedom [to Men] was their [the Valar, in modern terms: the Ainur] envy and amazement" — what. The other Valar were envious of it too? Which ones? Names, please. (Makar I suppose but tbh he's to dumb to appreciate it)
Seriously, sir, what.
It almost starts feeling like "the Men are more real and the fairies and spirits get envious of that"

| kageyama tobio: crybaby by SZA
you CANNNOTT tell me that you don’t see some sort of connection.
“maybe if that attitude took a backseat (mr) know it all..” - that’s all it took for me to think of him 🥲😭
| akaashi keiji: my heart it beats for you by grent perez and the most beautiful thing by bruno major
ofc for THHEEE most definite gentleman akaashi AUSGSHGAH 🥹 these songs especially remind me of him just because. no explanation needed. mac demarco songs also give off akaashi vibes but those two songs in specific for sure!!
| hajime iwaizumi: close with desires by teo glacier
close with desires reminds me of this idea of him being a second option. i rmbr i read this one fic of how the reader chooses oikawa despite reader and iwa having a unique connection w each other. quite literally the definition of “maybe right person wrong timing” lyric 💔 LIKEEE COME HERE IWA I WILL GLADLY CHOOSE U 🙁
| rensuke kunigami: calling on you by jon b and 20191009 i like her by mac demarco
CALLING ON YOU CUZ MANS IS JUST AUSGSHAGHAH. felt like love at first sight when i first saw this guy cuz DAYUMM. anyways also 20191009 i like her because this guy would MOST DEF be a great bf, i just can’t explain it. he just gives off that kinda vibe. tho i can’t rlly say the same for post wild card tho..
| seishiro nagi: nobody but you by teo glacier and blue by yung kai
nobody but you gives off that laid back kinda vibe but at the same time still hits diff cuz of its lyrics. imo it matches perf w his laid back personality and also from knowing more of his character throughout the show that makes him hit diff too! an immediate fav. lately tho, i keep thinking of him whenever i listen to blue..hence my recent work 😭✨
| rin itoshi: spread thin by mariah the scientist
the whole younger and older brother situation BRREAAKKSS me everytime, and this song somehow gives that vibe. can we agree that it needs to stop 💔 (the shinazugawa and uchiha brothers did enough damage. i didn’t ask for another, okay?..)
| oliver aiku: her old friends by pnd

| taiga kagami: sugar by brockhampton
he honestly gives off this song esp when in the lyrics where it says “spending all my nights alone, waiting for you to call me”. it makes me think of whether this is how he would feel thinking of kuroko after leaving him behind for the nba. and prob does. SIGHH
| satsuki momoi: venus by regina song
SHE DEFF gives off this song. honestly even the cutest pair and love at first sight, BOTH by regina song too btw, would match her also. she is so me when i like smo unfortunately.. 💔💔

More random tamb thought (or headcannons ig)
This is based on a convo I had a while back with a mate of mine. Basically, I think it's very funny that you can technically separate the college gang in three different categories so I will share them with you guys
The put-together ones
This is Lucy and Rian they give the vibes of people that always smells great, are dress well with a full face of make up at 6 in the fucking morning and the make it look easy to be like that .
The NPCs normal ones
This is Isaac and Philomela they are perfectly normal (all things considered) they look as presentable as possible, and they are just there trying their best with life
THEY JUST FOUGHT A CAT AND LOST
This Zoe and Chise, the title is self-explanatory, but if you need an explanation for those two, I think it's impressive they make it to class every day.
Idk why but this categories make so much sense for them in my mind and also it makes me laught thinking that those six hang out together and sit close to each other in class it must be a sight in the mornings. Like those guys are the class clowns, and they don't even know it. ANYWAY, that's all for me. Thanks for listening to my rumbles

saw your au dungeon in dsmp and had to share an idea about it because oh my gods I might MASSIVELY start brainrotting otherwise-
I think it would be funny for kabru + Latios and co to see techno and assume monsters got out or he's a new monster(assuming he looks like a piglin on a massive furry scale of techno designs) only for philza (who looks very beastman-y but definitely is sane and sound in mind- if you ignore how good he might be at fashioning weapons and armor out of things from monsters and from the dungeon for his loved ones including benchtrio and how insanely old he is while still being young-ish) to go "naw he's just a silly shapeshifter"(relatively joking + affectionate)
later on due to some needs, maybe he finally relaxes? or he tires himself out drastically in a battle? he suddenly shifts into a more human and not pig-man form and everyone is "O_O" at him.
OH MY GOD I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS ok so for this AU I've been thinking over how the dunmeshi world would try to understand what types of beasts/demihumans each dsmp member is. They're still completely what they were originally, but the dunmeshi characters keep trying to categorize them to fit them into their world (with the exception of Laios because I see him going like "Oh no you guys obviously aren't like anything we've seen. I'm gonna ask you a million questions though because I want to give you a NEW category") But anyway, here's how the dunmeshi characters view each member!! [entire explanation under]
Techno - At first they are just like. 100% sure he's an Orc. Techno doesn't really care at all what they think, but Philza gives off the vibes of "actually doesn't wanna get attacked on the surface" so he DEFINITELY tries to assure people "No he's just like- been cursed!!! To look all monstrous like this lol" (cus he's not sure how well they'll respond to shapeshifters, they might mistake Techno for a doppelgänger!) and Techno is like "What the fuck" for the most part but again. doesn't care enough. Philza - Genuinely they just thought he was an elf or half-elf for the longest period of time because he keeps his wings under his cape. Until he showed his wings and Laios freaked out thinking he was the first male harpy they'd ever recorded. Nope!! After that debacle they think of him like a Beastman like Izutsumi Tommy - Oni, probably an Ogre like Tade, though they are all quite curious on why his horns are "dyed" like that. Also why he's so small. Also why he's not from the east. Actually they don't fully think he's an Ogre at all it's just the first group they could put him with and they rolled with it Tubbo - I think they'd struggle the most with Tubbo. POSSIBLY?? They try to put him down as an Orc as well, but I think they'd just come to understand him like they do Philza, he's just a cursed Beastman. Ranboo - OKAY. So in the manga there's this character whos an elf called Flamela, and on the wiki at least (I can't be bothered to go through the manga for a proper refresher), it specifies that "her obsidian-like skin and silver hair are traits that are considered 'proof of true royalty.'." For this reason, I think it'd be fun if for the most part everybody, and ESPECIALLY the canaries, just think he's a really fucked-up royal Elf. Don't ask me how this makes sense it's just funny. Elves losing their mind over this "obviously lost member of our royalty" and he's just there

AAC IS HERE !!!! Pictures first, then explanation of settings and my feelings/opinions so far!
Tumblr media
[Image description: A Jabbla Vibe 10 dedicated communication device, with Grid 3 open to Grid Explorer. It has the name Ezra at the top and three grid sets ready to be opened. Each has a different colour, from left to right they are red, teal, and dark green. Red is Supercore 50, teal is WordPower 100, and dark green is WordPower 100 for Switches. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Same communication device, open to Supercore 50 grid set. It is 9 buttons across, 6 buttons down. There is additional row at the top, which is like this from left to right; magic wand, jump back, speech bar taking the space of 4 normal buttons, speak, delete word, clear. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Communication device open to WordPower 100, with a plastic keyguard over the top. The keyguard is made of clear plastic and clips onto the device with two black clips, one on each side. This grid is 9 by 12, including the top row with the speech bar and other buttons on either side of speech bar. The background colour is dark blue. The keyguard holes is a bit smaller than the size of the buttons, so sometimes seeing the full button is tricky. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Same device, open to WordPower 100 for Switches. It is without the keyguard because the grid is 9 by 13 instead of 9 by 12, so it doesn’t fit this grid. The background is white and there is bigger spacing between the buttons compared to the other grids. There is a switch frequency keyboard on the right hand side of the screen. The buttons on this grid is divided into clearer blocks, for switch scanning. End ID.]
Okay… Firstly I am very very excited and happy and quite overwhelmed!! It is so great and relieving to have my own dedicated device, finally! I cannot describe how much this will help me.
Michelle (SCTCI (Scottish Centre of Technology for the Communication Impaired) person) set this up so the WordPower 100 grid is automatically opened first. However I already think I need to change this so Supercore 50 is first to open. I already am so much faster with Supercore, I think because it is less buttons to process, less overwhelming. And more easy to understand categories which help me with navigation (I struggle with that).
I also will try the keyguard, and Michelle say she can get another one for WordPower 100 for Switches. I don’t know if keyguard for Supercore 50 is an option, but it is custom made by someone apparently, so I assume it is possible.
Basically right now is just for trying and editing and experimenting. Then eventually I can ask Mum to email Michelle if I have anything to say or ask!
The physical device (Jabbla Vibe 10) is great! Not too heavy, good handle, good stand with good range of angles. I also have a bag for it!
I am just so happy and proud. I already use Supercore 50 to say several long sentences to Mum, and I am super fast on it!!! That is a big deal and big accomplishment for me. I also have Archie Scottish boy voice, and I love it.
🥰😍🤩🥳😄🎉

EUROVISION 2025 aka EVERYONE *coff coff* Spain VS ISRAEL DRAMA
An explanation for non Eurovision or Spanish speaking fans of the mess of this year, about the most political song contest ever that claims every year « we are not politicaaaaaaaal » despite this thing is Game of Thrones mixed with the Sopranos mixed with glitter and fireworks.
You know it’s going to be a good edition if you have an epileptic attack at some point of the night
Tumblr media
Also my highligths of my favourite  songs of this edition.
As a good entry, I would recommend to watch the Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. It is an American movie but it got the right vibes.
youtube
Briefly, this is a song contest in which several European-ish countries (plus Israel and sometimes Australia, I refuse to explain this) to celebrate union, cooperation and all that shit after the II World War. It is a way also to apologise to each other if we have a feud giving mutual points. But mostly because we just love to teach each other apart, to be honest.
Tumblr media
**Looking at Portugal because you didn’t give us your 12 points**
The structure is simple:
-A video of the Crystal Microphone being carried to the city in which the contest is (the winning country of the last year). Nice mention to Switzerland because Nemo broke the micro last year XD
-The winner of the last year performing their winning song.
-The Flag Parade, in which all singers participating wave their flags to the audience (obviously)
Tumblr media
- The podcasts, the intro video of the participants before their performances. In those videos you watch the singers wandering around their towns or whatever while the broadcasters explain to you briefly their careers. You can really feel when a candidate is hated because the speakers are passive aggressive bitches. Graham Norton (UK) is legendary for this.
-The song of each participant.
-In between, performances from older winners-contestants.
-The televote time, in which the jury and the public of all Europe vote for their favourite.
-Points given by a spokesperson in front of a known building (kudos to Sweden for being in a sauna as their song)
Tumblr media
-The winner performs once more and credit rolls.
There are three ways to win Eurovision:
-With a dramatic, beautiful song like this year (Austria) or a catchy sound. Remember, this contest brought you ABBA or Manneskin.
-With something we call a Eurovision Song aka being the weirdest thing ever in a very specific way and mood, like Lordi’s Finland or whatever the Nordics were doing that year.
-With the love of the public. All those performances that didn’t win but will be remember forever (usually they fall in the category above).
BTW, Spain only won twice: on 1968 with Franco's hand on it and with the first miniskirt on public television ever and 1969, the iconic year in which 4 countries won and they had to change the rules.
Tumblr media
Let’s going to start with the drama
Enter Moraccanoil, the sponsor of the contest since 2020. It is an Israeli cosmetic company. Remember this, is going to be important later.
Tumblr media
On the 2nd semifinal , RTVE (Spanish public television) spokespersons Julia Varela y Tony Aguilar shared this during Israel’s podcast:
youtube
We now come to Israel's performance in this second Eurovision semi-final with Yuval Raphael, a previously unknown artist who was injured in the Hamas attacks on 7 October. Her song is entitled New Day Will Rise. This year, RTVE has asked Eurovision for a debate on Israel's participation in Eurovision. The victims of the Israeli attacks on Gaza number more than 50,000, including more than 15,000 children, according to the United Nations. This is not a petition against any country, it is a call for peace, justice and respect for human rights in line with the inclusive and peaceful vocation of Eurovision. Yuval lived in Geneva as a child, will sing the song New Day Will Rise in French and Hebrew.
The EBU –European Broadcast Union- aka Moraccanoil got enraged and sent a letter to RTVE warning the EBU may incur in punitive fines and forbidding any mention about the Israel-Gaza genocide conflict.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind we had things like Bosnia giving the points from a trench because they were in the middle of the Sarajevo war in 1993 or the expulsion of Russia because the invassion of Ucraine.
youtube
Tumblr media
Non political contest my ass.
The final of 17th May
Spain was forbidden to mention the genocide between 21h to the estimated time of ending the contest 4h30 later (local time) so we cut to RTVE at 20:58h:
Tumblr media
BEST. TROLLING. EVER. OLÉ FOR MY COUNTRY
Also Israel's podcast had the same spokespersons introducing the candidate speaking with the MOST. BORING. NEUTRAL. TONE. EVER. Trust me, if you ever have seen a Spaniard talk, this was clearly in purpose.
But at least we didn’t cut the performance like the Belgium Television
Tumblr media
We should have done that though. This is the 2nd year in a row in which Israel has to sing with pre-recorded audio and fake applauses. There are enough videos of the boooos on Twitter to look at.
To avoid Palestinian flags the organisation even forbid the rainbow flag. I repeat, THE RAINBOW FLAG WAS FORBIDDEN IN EUROVISION aka THE GAY OLYMPICS.
Don’t forget last year Israel tried to ban several countries because of their open support for Palestine, their ambassors harassed several contestants and journalists and their spokespersons are just overall assholes.
Tumblr media
Also they forbidden to the Spanish journalists do their jobs at the Press room. Specifically them.
Tumblr media
So when Israel got only 60 points from the jury but magically got 297 from the public televote, everyone wanted to set everything on fire. And not a piano on stage.
Tumblr media
Not even the speakers could hide their Pikachu shock faces. BTW, Spain (one of the favourites by far) to whom the public was roaring at the flag parade, only got only 10. This is the 2nd year in which Israel got prompted to the 2nd place because of the public vote. Public vote clearly rigged because “casually” all the countries that criticised the inclusion of Israel got in the ground.
Tumblr media
The rigged points have been so obvious that several countries (with Spain first) reclaimed to be supervised.
You know you have fucked up royally with your genocide when fucking Europe sides with Muslims and Spain does paperwork.
Anyway, my highlights of this year (putting gifs because of the video limit):
Estonia – Espresso Macciato – Tommy Cash. 100% Eurovision Delight.
Tumblr media
Spain – Diva – Melody. We didn’t send anything so iconic since Chanel. The helicopter is going to be included in our national dances.
Tumblr media
UK – What the hell just happened – Remember Monday. UK is specialist on 0 points but come on, this one has an underrated harmony and the bonus of the Disney Princesses.
Tumblr media
Austria – Wasted Love – JJ. The theatre drama kid everyone has inside (the winner and saviour of the contest not letting Israel win).
Tumblr media
Iceland – Roa – Vaeb. I admit it, I just like shiny sparkly aliens.
Tumblr media
Latvia – Bur man laimi – Tautumeitas. I want to summon something in the forest with them.
Tumblr media
Finland – Ich komme – Erika Vikman. Dommy Mommy.
Tumblr media
Germany – Baller – Abor & Tinna. For some reason now I have the desire to write an incest brother/sister fanfic.
Tumblr media
Armenia – Survivor –  Parg. Now everyone knows where Armenia is in a map.
Tumblr media
Sweden – Bara bada bastu – KAJ. What can I say? It’s a song about a sauna.
Tumblr media
Bonus:  Käärijä & Baby Lasagna, the collab noone expected

Personal Planning for my SPN Fanfic
If/when I get around to writing my spn fanfic, one focuses around Ben Braeden, Jesse Turner, and Krissy Chambers… there are a few things I definitely want to touch on character, setting, and plot wise.
This post, and any posts I may link to this one, is partly for me to help structure my world building of the fic, and just get my ideas pushed out (cause I really wanna talk about them)
Basic Info (the vibes and the essentials)
• Things are slightly different from original show. No super huge changes canon-wise (because it takes place after the season 15)
• It mainly takes the general concepts of Supernatural, and expands them. Essentially doing what that sweet, sweet CW budget wouldn’t allow.
• Instead of driving from state to state across the USA, they’re globetrotting to different countries (and still driving throughout the USA too).
• Monsters are more monstrous. I never liked how most of the monsters of SPN fall into the “They’re basically human… but with one or two distinct features and super strength,” category. There IS an explanation for why monsters are changing, involving an original made antagonist connected to the Styne family from season 10.
• Instead of solving small town mysteries (which they still will occasionally do), they’re uncovering secrets decades, centuries, or even thousands of years old.
• They’re doing things like exploring seemingly dilapidated manors, unearthing ancient crypts and temples, and fighting cults of monsters that’ve taken over a small village in north Europe (among other things).
• It’s all somewhat Tomb Raider x Silent Hill x Resident Evil (specifically 1, 4, & 5) but incredibly Supernatural-fied.
• It’s gonna get real fucking gay… and badass… and also sad at times.
Character Overviews
Ben Braeden
Basic Plot Summary
(that ended up being rather long on accident)
Three people, three souls, each one intertwined by destiny, by fickle fate, by the journey of the famous, and equally infamous, Sam and Dean Winchester.
Jesse Turner, after having disappeared for 13 years, his life a constant game of running, hiding, and survival, he finally chooses to seek out the Winchesters, hoping for some way to rid him of his powers, or kill him.
Ben Braeden, a bastard boy in the eyes of many. One who suffered a horrible tragedy 12 years ago: he found his mother, Lisa Braeden, stuck to the ceiling, her body combusting into the flames, her last words telling her boy to “Find Dean Winchester.” He remembers that night vividly. He remembers the way his mother’s killer stood… clouded by shadow… their glowing yellow eyes the only thing that pierced the darkness. A reflection of their owners evil.
Krissy Chambers, her life of hunting long behind her, yet never vanishing. She, who suffered worst fate. The fate every hunter eventually suffers: the fate of losing everything, and everyone. Her father, her friends, all dead. And the Winchesters? Gone. Disappeared years ago. And those years take their toll. The desperation to feed oneself, to survive and forget, it becomes stronger. The soul-crushing guilt and anger weighs down on the soul. Eventually… a darkness creeps in. It blinds the morals we once had… and our path becomes a blur to us.
Each of them search for the brothers, the Winchesters. Each of them will meet… and each of them will journey far and wide for what they seek, and their lives will change in ways they’d never imagined.

assigning taylor swift songs to bridgerton couples (part 1)
with explanations that no one asked for (proceed with caution)
part 2 for e, f, g and h
so i’ve been going kinda crazy about bridgerton the past few weeks, i read (and reread) all eight books and at some point while reading i couldn't stop trying to find taylor songs in my mind which would fit each couple. so i chose two songs for every pair, some of these have actual thought behind them, others are mostly based on vibes. i hope you enjoy this unhinged tangent <3
anthony & kate - i was actually reading gregory’s book when this completely genius thought hit me - treacherous IS the kanthony song. i mean it starts with “put your lips close to mine as long as they don’t touch”. insert a picture of any one of the hundred times they almost kissed in the show. even the build up of the song reminds me so much of the slow burn we had in the series. also lyrics like “i hear the sound of my own voice asking you to stay” (anthony being “what?? no!!! you can’t go back to india. wtf do you mean you’re not staying once edwina marries???”),  “and all we are is skin and bone trained to get along forever going with the flow but you're friction” through the lens of kanthony i see this line as them just constantly aggravating each other.
the second song for them is dancing with our hands tied. i hadn’t thought about this song in a criminally long time. oh boy. (i also just now realised how long this post is gonna be) “i, i loved you in secret, first sight, yeah we love without reason” i’m sorry but these dumb bitches were in love since that first fateful early morning horse ride you can’t convince me otherwise. “people started talking, putting us through our paces // but we were dancing, dancing with our hands tied, hands tied” this screams when they got caught and were forced to marry in the book. their hands were tied - they had no other choice but to marry but they were dancing because they actually did love each other (awww). other than that there are two lines that sort of go hand in hand - “i loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us” and “i'm a mess, but i'm the mess that you wanted” in my head this is from anthony’s perspective. him dealing with his fear of morality and losing kate and while kate does have the eldest daughter syndrome, anthony is the bigger mess of a person in the relationship.
benedict & sophie - enchanted is a no brainer, it needs no explanation. now for their second song i picked the lakes. this resides in the vibes category. listening to this i can’t help but imagine benophie living an artsy quiet life in my cottage. i’m actually interested to see how their living situation will play out in the show because i feel in the books benedict wasn’t as involved in the ton. i guess it’s just a bit hard for me to envision show!ben being so chill about moving to some place in the middle of nowhere.
colin & penelope - of course, dress. i listened to this on repeat while reading the whole book in one sitting. honestly a marvellous experience, can’t recommend enough . for the second song i had to go looking, had to travel far like colin one might say. and once i arrived in the long forgotten country of taylor’s debut album i found a piece of music so clearly polin coded that it’s baffling this fandom isn’t talking about it. the song in question is  i’m only me when i’m with you. it feels silly to explain this one because being from taylor’s early career the lyrics aren’t terribly clever so let’s focus on the chorus. “i'm only up when you're not down, don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground” some people want colin to be just ken in the show but i actually really liked how they both have a career in writing at the end of the book (penelope better had published the book she started writing). “the other half i'm only trying to let you know that what i feel is true and i'm only me when i'm with you” you can’t tell me this isn’t colin telling penelope she is beautiful over and over again and how much he loves him because he was a fool not to realise it sooner. while in the book penelope feeling like she is truly confident and herself around colin, i think in the show this line works from colin’s side just as well.
daphne & simon - while most of the fandom has crowned wildest dreams as the saphne anthem (taylor’s version), i just couldn’t get behind it. yes, they used the song in their season but in my mind it just does not embody their relationship. firstly, the great war, i mean the first line “my knuckles were bruised like violets”. simon… boxing… you see the connection, right? okay, i promise it gets (even) better. “and maybe it's the past that's talking, screaming from the crypt. telling me to punish you for things you never did” in case of simon, he was hanging on to his hate towards his father and refusing to have kids with daphne, punishing her while it wasn’t her fault what had happened to him as a child. “somewhere in the haze, got a sense i’d been betrayed” i hate this part of their stroy (i do not condone daphne’s actions) yet i can so clearly picture simon still partly on his high of pleasure but starting to realise what daphne had done to him. i think i like this as their song because well they both were all kinds of wrong in this situation and at the end of the song it’s acknowledged “there's no morning glory, it was war, it wasn't fair” and still it has a happy ending just like saphne. their second song was hard to find and i’m not a hundred percent sure about it but a present to you so it goes…  “all eyes on us, you make everyone disappear” - season 1, episode 1 “stare into my eyes”. i felt i needed to give them a sexy song and i do feel like it matches their sexual tension but this one is definitely up for debate.

Smoke, Salt and Asbestos: A Friendly Review
Introduction and Format Explanation:
I've just finished reading Smoke, Salt And Asbestos by @quietly-by-myself. In the communities where I spend most of my time here on Tumblr, I see occasional recommendations but nothing I would call a review, so I thought I'd go into a little more detail about why I enjoyed this story. I'm still a relative newcomer here in 2024, so if I'm wrong about that, send links in the notes and I will include them here!
The reason I think a positive review might be useful to my audience is that, when people praise a story, they seldom give enough detail for me to know as a reader if I will also want to read it. These are stories I liked personally, and this means that reviews will mostly be of hurt/comfort stories with happy or at least ambiguous endings.
Ambiguous here means characters may part, or may have dangling plot threads for later, but they have survived and are in some way better or recovering.
This doesn't mean I disliked everything I didn't review; I read a lot of stories and can't review them all. This is just for stories that are completed according to the author (something of a rare category already) and that I thought deserved special mention.
Another reason is that the Tumblr writing format is more akin to the magazine serials of yesteryear than a novel. Each installment has to have something to hook a reader's attention, and any overarching plot must serve that goal. This is different from writing a short story, intended to build rapidly to a punchy conclusion, or a novel, which may scatter its impactive moments on the way to a three to five-act structure. I will argue to the death that this is its own valid art form, and as such, it deserves to be reviewed as much as any published short-form content collection.
I'll attempt some light analysis, but I won't ask authors if I'm right about their intent first, so you only get my reader impressions on it. As such, I might be wrong about some or all of how I describe a story and its lore. I don't insist on death of the author once a review is up, so authors are welcome and encouraged to comment!
Summary:
In brief, and without major spoilers, SSA is an original fantasy story about an alchemist, in this case a more external science-based form of magic practitioner, who finds and tries to help a changeling, a badly injured fae creature who has been abused by his former family and village. There is violent content but no sexual content.
Vibes:
If you're reading this as a whump fan, the biggest thing you probably want to know is the vibe. We all have that feel we're looking for, and it's radically different for different people.
This is a hurt/comfort story, where the people doing the harm are mostly offscreen and in flashback. (This will surprise no one who's read my own work on here; I mostly prefer h/c and will therefore mostly write and review that.) There's a lot of dwelling on the pain, both physical and emotional, of the character Briac, a changeling who has been terribly beaten and tortured by his human community and family through no fault of his own (he was not aware he was a changeling either). And there's a long, carefully articulated treatment and recovery arc. His rescuer Silvanus' arc is more emotional than physical, but he has a bit of this too with a curse he is under (again, almost from birth, and through no fault of his own).
There's a short period where Silvanus causes Briac further pain, first out of ignorance of how to treat him, then because the magical healing process is itself painful. It's never out of malice, so if you also like accidental carewhumper vibes, there's a bit of that too. I'm normally not into carewhump, but I ended up liking this a lot, too. It's a source of potent emotions but feels safe enough that I don't feel afraid of a bad ending.
There are a lot of teary and emotional scenes here dealing with Briac and Silvanus coping with their situations and relationships (again, no spoilers). I thought these were handled well, even if they're not what I necessarily come to a story for.
Characters and Setting:
This story is set in an original high fantasy universe with some thorough and interesting lore. There are many ways to interpret fae, as with vampires or living weapons or any other topic, and this one hints at a bigger world without interrupting the story with tons of exposition. I really liked that. I like whump stories, but I also love deep lore.
This story deals with two magic systems, magery and alchemy, with alchemists using an external Source and strict rules and documentation, and the magic of mages and fae being more flowing and subjective. The magic words we're shown for the latter are surreal and poetic, and that's a flavor that I liked for these strange creatures and their relationship to the caprice of the natural world.
Themes (Mild Spoilers):
The overall theme of Salt, Smoke and Asbestos reads to me like a meditation on familial estrangement. It's not a tough read into the material. Briac was abandoned and even permanently scarred by his human mother. He doesn't know who his fae parents were, and has no way to find out.
Silvanus was cursed as a child because his parents attacked the fae, was adopted by other fae, and then was forced to leave the sanctuary where he grew up because the curse gives him a bad smell to these creatures. As a result, he has less contact with his sister, with whom he has an overall positive relationship and whom he would obviously like to see more. He can't interpret his fae foster father's attitude and actions and has a lot of angst about that, too.
Silvanus eventually has to suffer another familial abandonment by yet another surrogate. It's not surprising that he is ultimately better able to connect with Briac, another broken bird who does not represent his repeated abandonment by those who should have cared for him, and that the ultimate denouement of the story is about assembling your own new bonds more than it is about trying to regain the old ones. Not only that, but a key climax of the overall story has to do with Silvanus' determination not to abandon Briac as they have both been abandoned before.
I thought the overall treatment of this was very satisfying and cathartic.
Final Comments and Recommendation:
I binged this story over a couple of sessions. I thought it flowed well and was a very easy, appealing read. As a whump story, it has some excellent hurt/comfort content. It's not a romance, but characters ultimately do form close bonds, and I liked that. It's rare and nice to find an acknowledgment of the value of platonic bonding. Obviously I will be wrong about that if the characters became romantically involved later, but that's how it looks to me from what I read.
If you like hurt and comfort whump in a fantasy setting, give this story a look!

2023 Reading Log pt. 14
Where the hell did November go?
Tumblr media
66. New World Monkeys: The Evolutionary Odyssey by Alfred L. Rosenberger. In the introduction, the author laments that there aren’t any good books outlining the evolution and ecology of the New World Monkeys. If that's the case, there still aren’t. This book does alright by the ecology part—it has good summaries of the anatomy, behavior and feeding interactions of the covered monkeys. But the evolution is a mess. Rosenberger’s take on the evolutionary relationships between the animals covered here is iconoclastic, to say the least. He distrusts molecular phylogeny, uses synapomorphic characters that are basically just vibes, and has an entire chapter dedicated to lambasting the idea that any mammals could disperse across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to South America (the consensus explanation) in favor of a hypothesized trek through Greenland and North America that has no evidence and still requires open ocean crossings. This was an incredibly frustrating experience to read, because there’s enough good content among the dross that I didn’t want to just abandon it.
Tumblr media
67. Seaweeds of the World by John H. Bothwell. The weakest of Princeton University Press’ “X of the World” series. For one thing, the subtitle is usually “A Guide to Every Family”, whereas here it’s “A Guide to Every Order”. The book’s general coverage of seaweeds is pretty good—it explains why “seaweed” is a polyphyletic category but still useful in common English, explains the anatomy and the complex life histories of seaweeds. But the actual coverage of groups is lacking. Again, it doesn’t cover every family. And it’s more interested in seaweeds of economic importance than it is in their actual ecologies. Plus the writing is just kinda boring. This is the first entry in this series I do not recommend.
Tumblr media
68. Lapidarium: The Secret Lives of Stones by Hettie Judah. Now this is more like it! This book is a series of short essays about stones and their cultural impact. I’m a sucker for cultural histories in general, and this is a very good one. I especially liked that it doesn’t just cover gemstones, as I originally expected, but also stones used in art and architecture, resources like coal, and the use of earthworks in religion. The focus is much more on the culture than the geology, but the book does discuss things like deposition of sediments and how metamorphic rocks yield gemstones in explaining why certain places have certain rocks. The book is also lovely to look at, with minimalist bands of color along the sides of the pages in the hues of the stones covered in that chapter.
Tumblr media
69. Monsters and Monarchs: Serial Killers in Classical Myth and History by Debbie Felton. I was excited for this one. I had read Felton’s chapter in Monster Anthropology, which suggested that Greek traveler’s tales about werewolves and the murderous robbers encountered by Theseus in myth were both expressions of cultural fears about serial killers. Unfortunately, that article already covered the bulk of Felton’s actual argument and evidence, and this book is those 20 pages fluffed to 200. The only other really good material is some coverage of the distinction between Greek and Roman attitudes towards law and order, and what “counted” as murder in each society. The rest of it is handwaving and extrapolation from very little data, with just about every instance of mass killing that we have records of, from political uprisings to court intrigue, being taken as the work of a possible serial killer. Plus, the author is a Freudian, so we have to hear about coded references to rape and sexual violence in stories where there really aren’t any. Sometimes a bed where you get your legs cut off is just a bed.
Tumblr media
70. Cult of the Dead: A Brief History of Christianity by Kyle Smith. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, of course, but that title and that cover made an instant sale for me. I’m glad it did, too, because this is a good one. An explanation of the importance of martyrdom to Christianity, it does an excellent job of explaining why, exactly, so many people were willing and eager to die for their faith, and how this persisted in building a persecution complex among the dominant European religion for centuries. The book avers from discussing the present day for the most part, tapering off with the work of reformist Catholics poring over the many, many legends about saints and trying to determine which, if any of them, represent actual historical events rather than religious fictions. Other topics covered include the trade in relics, the role in martyrologies in shaping the modern calendar, and how women could most easily play a role in the Church through the mortification of the flesh. The book is eminently readable and very well illustrated.

Art from January! WALL OF TEXT INCOMING (I copied and pasted the desc I typed out on DA hgngh…) I looked up poses for some of the characters that inspire me when it comes to Troy’s character and his world.
The ones I picked here are Fred from Scooby Doo, Doyle from Galaxy High, and StarLord from Guardians of the Galaxy.
All of these character I feel share similar traits and energy. All of them can be goofy and silly or like to crack jokes,  and even have similar physical characteristics. Fred is usually depicted as being a bit out of touch and does some pretty unexpected and funny things, also gives off “himbo” vibes. His actions or methods to catch the bad guy can seem unorthodox, but still work. Overall just quirky, but means well. I see Troy as that too. Unless it’s a very serious situation, Troy’s silliness and goofiness is going to come out while he’s on the job and in uniform, but that doesn’t mean you can’t count on him to get the job done.
In the more recent stuff they show Fred to have an obsession with nets and traps, and that reminds me of Troy and his love for tacos. He also just gets excited or really happy about certain things in general, which makes me think of Troy too, because he can get like that about things. I could have chosen a lot of poses and expressions with Fred tbh, but I saw him making that one in a clip I was looking at, and I just got an urge to draw it.
I haven’t gotten to watch every episode of Galaxy High yet, (there aren’t that many as the show didn’t last too long) but from what I’ve seen, there’s a lot of elements in there that inspire me, not just the main character. The overall plot of him and another human girl from earth being chosen to attend a high school in space is already interesting to me. There’s aliens of all kinds co-mingling, futuristic tech, space-related hijinks, and just good-ole 80s vibes! Which of course, I always enjoy.
Doyle himself is pretty much a jock. Not an extreme one, but I’d consider him being in the category. He’s sporty/athletic, plays football. That reminds me of Troy because he’s athletic and sporty too and plays basketball. That’s why I thought that pose there would be a good one to try.
They make Doyle out as meaning well too, but since he’s a teenager his choices aren’t always the best. There’s usually a lesson to learn at the end of an episode. Even though Troy isn’t a teenager, he’s still a young adult, and can honestly still act like a teen or big kid anyway.
ALSO Doyle works as waiter at a diner, and Troy works as a waiter at a restaurant when in hooman disguise! I didn’t even know about Galaxy High when I made that a thing for Troy, so I thought that was an interesting similarity as well. I’m tempted to draw Troy in the outfit Doyle wears just for the fun of it.
Annd then we have Starlord, who may be the least surprising choice here…. He’s a part of a group called “Guardians of the Galaxy”. They travel around space helping people, fight bad guys… and there’s some comedic flare thrown into the mix. I mean, that’s pretty much Troy’s concept in a nutshell. Starlord himself reminds me of Troy in a lot ways. I could see Troy listening to oldies music while in his ship, or exploring a planet, jamming out and all that. Cracking jokes while he’s fighting with something or someone. All that stuff.
Whew boy, uh… sorry for this wall of text here. If you made it to the end of this then kudos to you haha. ;w; Just felt like giving a bit of explanation for each character here… there’s many more characters that have inspired me with Troy though.
Also this was a experiment here, taking screenshots or looking up pics of characters that inspire me and trying to redraw their poses/expressions. I gotta do this more. I’ve never really gotten to before but it really helps with going out of my comfort zone and exploring a character more.

Watching Gene Kou, no translation, only vibes, and apparently the first episode of 'Jr.Exile kouhai vote for a Gene mbr' I watched was the vote for the gentlest/kindest Gene mbr (according to the one comment I had machine translated from Chinese), which - I am so sorry, Ryuto, but now I understand why you got so few votes there. (it's not that I think Ryuto is unkind, it's that I think he's got damn strong competition in the kindness category)
Reo, Mandy and Alan getting the most votes in that category makes sense - of the 38 Jr.Exile kouhai, 9 voted for Reo as kindest, then 7 voted each for Mandy and Alan. Ryuto got 1 vote (from Zin) and Hayato got 3 votes. The last 11 votes split basically evenly between Yuta and Ryota (6 for Yuta, 5 for Ryota).
Tumblr media
I did love Taiki's long, long message where every mbr got mentioned by name, until we got to the one he actually voted for (and I can't remember, it might've been Mandy - statistically speaking, nearly 2/3rds of all the votes went to Reo, Mandy and Alan).
I do find it interesting that the youngest groups all stuck to the same four for the most part (Yuta managed a Balli and a Fanta vote), RMPG is scattered across all 7 and are the only ones to vote for either Hayato or Ryuto. They're also the majority of the votes for Yuta.
The only explanation I actually sat down, transcribed and machine translated was - obviously - Riku's vote for Alan.
However, I am now onto the vote for manliest member (according to the same machine translated Chinese comment) and I imagine Ryuto's gonna run off with significantly more votes in this category 😂

OC STUFF PART 1
Hello! My name is Jooji! i am gonna start to post here again, both my OCS and Mod content! this first post is just a small explanation of my world building! every post after is just gonna be about ocs, fanart or my minecraft mods. This world has no name..neither any of the stories i am telling on it do either. its separated in 3 sessions (kinda of) Heaven, Hell, Earth a lot of the concepts are inspired by works like, Hazbin hotel, The good omens, Chainsawman, etc....its a lot of stuff. Earth is on its early 2010's, the main difference between this earth and our Earth is the existence of "hell-lings" they are tulpa-esque creatures that are born from the feeling of desire, fear or emotions for certain things (they are all themed around a specific object..concept..or creature), these creatures have been haunting the world as long as man-kind exists (and a bit before it even..), since then there would exist organizations to hunt and kill them, as early as the 1300+ , im still thorn between the name for them, ive been thinking of Hunters, exorcists, sorcerers..etc...im not sure yet These creatures can be made deals with, tho their level of intelligence will depend a lot on that. there are specific categories of these creatures, as more intelligent they get, more human-like they are, tho some of them are extremely intelligence and are eldritch like in appearence ( i will make a post in the future explaining them more in-depth), they can also be personification of existing entities like Death, or the devil (Lucifer), even tough both of them are already existing entities in the universe, more on them later.. There are other types of entities that live on earth, like spirits (Souls that failed to go to heaven or hell for some unknown reason), adjacent demons like Onis or any other folclore demons, these are Demons that were banished from Hell. In hell there are 3 types of entities Demons = Angels from long time ago Sinners = Humans from earth that fell into hell Arch-Demons = Ancient demonic entities born from the ancient war between hell and heaven. I tought of the concepts that, Sinners in hell , instead of reborn, become Hell-lings on earth, and their power or intelligence depended on how much power they had in hell, but im not sure yet. and then after a hell-ling is killed, its soul is truly set to rest, but powerfull hell-lings can go back to hell if they want, using their deals and power, hell is formed out of 8 Layers. The old angels floor, its a bit of a piece of heaven that fell down long time ago, its where the Demons usually live in, no sinners are allowed in this realm. then you have the usual, each layer is kinda of themed.. sorta of? the sinners and demons appearence can depend a bit on layer but thats not a rule Pride - a 1900-1950 esque architecture , not really much to say here tbh, i have to draw it some time. Wrath - Medieval esque, Satan is straight up Draconic because i wanted to allude to those medieval tales that Dragons were sort of Demons, architectury is pretty old looking, huge walls, etc. Envy - Inspired by medieval times as well, but more focused on stuff like Pirates, sea monsters..etc..the entire place is kinda of flooded of sorts, so the cities are always above the water (and sometimes under the water) Gluttony - Im really thorny on this one, i tought of some type of early 2000's vibe?..but im really not sure, what i know is that, i want the buildings all to be made out of hive-like material. Lust - 90's kinda of? purple? one of those i really dont know how to describe either lol. Lazyness - havent decided yet. Greedy - las vegas/ wild west type shit because i wanted to have an excuse to do characters in this vibe + i always associated wild west with cassinos for some reason, not sure why ? this is the end of part 1!

you mentioned that working together would be the best because the band brings their skills together, what would comprise of everyone's unique skillset? do they have one or just coming together as a unit is what makes their music better? maybe both?
also something else i'm really curious about is where they draw inspiration from and what artists they dream to collaborate and work with <3
i think it might be both nonnie, like if i thought about it properly i would think jason is the best (subjectively) lyricist and producer, reader is also a strong lyricist in their own right but i think they both have differing creative styles that are compatible if that makes sense? like they mesh well because they're in tune with each other and know how to work (for the most part lmfao) together.
i'm not very familiar with musical terminology so bear with me and my clumsy explanation but roy gives me the vibe that he's good at coming up with chord progressions ? like guitar wise i think he comes up with the best guitar riffs for their songs. steph, on drums, i think would be consulting with reader on their music as well in the sense that she brings in newer, different influences and the both of them get to experiment with different sounds. like when they've got a tentative sound for a song, i think steph comes in and fine-tunes it to fix what's missing.
i think re: inspiration, i don't have specific personal artists for each band member but i think a little folk and indie, but a lot of modern rock too? artists that i think have similar sounds to the band would be the technicolours, cage the elephant, inhaler, a little bit of louis tomlinson and noah kahan, arctic monkeys, paramore, along those lines? like, upbeat, a little emo, a lot of guitar/bass and drums, fun but a little ! with the lyrics. rock-adjacent would be a good category to describe them? like, mixed with other genres.
i feel like i'm talking out of my ass here 😭 but thank you for this ask nonnie it's been ages since i've talked about the band au

Waateeystein's Ultimate Frankenstein Adaptation Review Masterpost
TL:DR
To appease my Frankenstein hyperfixation, I am attempting to watch as many adaptations of Mary Shelley’s novel as I possibly can. I created a grading criteria to rate each film/play/musical, and I am ranking my favorites in the name of science and obsession. All reviews will be posted to this blog and linked in the masterpost below for your viewing pleasure.
[Last updated 7/30/2023]
Reviews [in chronological order]
[Scroll further for a detailed explanation of my review criteria and background on this project]
Frankenstein (1910) Score: 25/40
Frankenstein (1931) Score: 26/40
Background
In 2022 around Halloween-time, I started a twitter thread of mini reviews of a few Frankenstein movie/play adaptations. Because of school/work obligations (I’m a full time grad student and fall 2022 was my first of six semesters), I wasn’t able to get through as many adaptations as I had hoped to. This year I’ve decided to revisit my Frankenstein reviews, now on my new tumblr side-blog, with a better understanding of how much free time I have in grad school, and an ever-growing Frankenstein hyperfixation that simply won’t die (not that I want it to hehe.) This masterpost will compile my review criteria, and will have a complete list of what I’ve watched, what I plan to watch, and links to my reviews which will be on their own individual posts. This entire project is purely for my own personal enjoyment, and I absolutely do not expect anyone to agree with my opinions, but I also hope you all respect my opinions just as I would respect yours. I also hoped that I would do this during the month of October, but seeing my new scope, this will probably be an ongoing project that will start during the spooky season and go on indefinitely. To limit my scope, I will only be watching movies and plays or musicals that have been recorded and can be viewed/listened to. I’m sure there are a ton of great novels and short stories based upon the Frankenstein mythos, but for now I am sticking to visual media. I will gladly take suggestions of things to watch, I have a big list already but I will gladly add to it! The goal is NOT to create an objective list of which Frankenstein stories are the best and the worst, because it is simply impossible for me as one person to do so. The real goal of this project is to catalog my thoughts about Frankenstein adaptations in hopes of unpacking how different artists and groups approach the Frankenstein mythos, and for me to gain a better personal understanding of what I like best out of a Frankenstein story.
References
These are the wiki articles I am referencing for finding media to review:
Grading Criteria
Media will be graded on four categories:
Faithfulness to the Source Material
In the case of adapting a story from one medium to another, I think it is very silly to think that any adaptation should be 100% accurate to its source material. We are all familiar with the idea of "the movie is never as good as the book", and while I do mostly agree with that statement, I also believe it can be unfair to judge adaptations based entirely on if they are able to be a carbon copy recreation of the original (adaptations are meant to adapt after all). In the case of judging adaptations of Frankenstein, I judge this category in terms of how faithful an adaptation is to the themes, character motivations and general vibes of the original story, rather than if the adaptation can produce every single plot point and character of the original exactly as Shelley wrote. I also don't think an adaptation of Frankenstein is automatically bad if it is "unfaithful", but it is fun to see both how close or how far these adaptations get depending on what their intended artistic goal is. I can appreciate when an adaptation values accuracy to the source material, but also when it decides to go off the rails and tries something new or unexpected. Frankenstein adaptations give us both extremes and the goal of this category to appreciate the entire spectrum of book accuracy (or inaccuracy). Total Possible Category Score: 10 Points
Production Design
I include this category because I'm a scenographer by trade. I think design for film and theatre is incredibly important to a story, and I don’t see enough people talking about it in a genuinely informed way. That also being said, I'm a terrible judge of actors' performances beyond my own entertainment, which is why I am not including a performance category to mirror this design category (but I may still make comments here and there within other categories when I have something substantial to say.) Costume and scenic design are my bread and butter, but I also may occasionally include thoughts on other design areas too.  Total Possible Category Score: 10 Points
Entertainment Value
When all is said and done, entertainment value, in my opinion, may be the most important category in my review. A piece of Frankenstein media could be a 100% accurate visual recreation of the book, but if it's not entertaining or thought provoking, what was the point? How entertainment is judged will be different depending on many different factors, like genre, production time period, etc. And obviously this category is highly personal to my own tastes, my cup of tea may not be the same as yours. This may be the most important category, but it is also the most subjective. But as someone who makes a living in the entertainment industry, I’d like to think that I am generally a good judge of entertainment value. Total Possible Category Score: 10 Points
Bonus Points
These are a few low-scoring categories where an adaptation might get a few bonus points. Most of these have to do with accuracy to the source material, and what details might make an adaptation perfect in my eyes. There are a lot of adaptations that stray so greatly in genre from the original novel, that I might make a judgment call on whether or not to include this category on a case by case basis. In conclusion, these are some “just for funsies” points.  Character(s) included/mentioned (1 point each): - Robert Walton and/or Henry Clerval - The DeLacey Family - Justine Moritz - William and/or Ernest Frankenstein Victor(y) points (1 point each): - Is Victor aged 18-26 years old? - Is Victor a college dropout? - Does Victor have an accent that is not American or British? Miscellaneous (1 point each): - The setting is primarily in Switzerland. - There are homoerotic undertones. - The Creature has intelligence. Total Category Score: 10 Points
Total Possible Score: 40 Points
Congratulations if you made it this far! I hope you all stick around to hear my ramblings. Please feel free to share your thoughts on individual reviews or this project as a whole, I'm really looking forward to writing these reviews and sharing my love of Frankenstein with you all!
