time of contempt!yenralt is geralt not trusting yennefer and being too scared of upsetting her to say it and sleeping with her anyway and the way netflix!geralt is different, that would never work.
i don't think the writers aren't fighting yennefer's arc in season 2 nearly as much as they are fighting this other version of geralt. and well... i wish some nuances of character interaction had gone a bit differently in season 2, but the thing that irritates me more than anything else in adaptations is when changes are made and the production backs off on them rather than following through. so whatever. i'm more interested to see what they do than anything else.

Ages ago I got an ask about Jaskier singing 'burn butcher burn' and Geralt listening in, but I truly think Jaskier is never performing that one again. OTHER SAD BREAKUP SONGS THO 👀

listen i am geralt of rivia hater number one but one thing i actually CANNOT stand is when the fandom mischaracterizes him. took one look at this man who speaks very straight-forwardly and matter-of-fact and is a little recalcitrant with his words sometimes and went "haha he communicates in grunts! man who only says 'hm'!" and then won't even write him to speak in full fucking sentences. hello???? hello???????? yes the netflix show was a bad influence on everybody because they were trying too hard to depict geralt as a stoic manly badass but we CANNOT let that distract us from the REAL thing to make fun of geralt for. which are his Constant Unprovoked Monologues

The saddest thing is the witcher could have portrayed healthy found familial relationship in a non-traditional way, but they went and forced yennefer into the role of mother, geralt into the role of father, completely did away with jaskier, and didn't even bother to consider that every single witcher in Kaer Morhen could be considered ciris father, but no, there's a husband and a wife and a child and that's all there is to it

Way late to the party but I am still PISSED about how badly Eskel was both done dirty and absolutely wasted as a character in Netflix’s Witcher. They also seemed to realize that they forgot(for non-book readers) to show just HOW MUCH Eskel meant to Geralt so they also threw in that little “flashback” which also did nothing.
Will I ever stop being salty as fuck about that?
Nope. Not a chance.
That killed the show for me. That and how crappy Jaskier is also handled. I didn’t bother with season three.

"What if someone could take away what makes her special?"
"Her powers are innate. You know that better than most."
"What if she could have a chance for a normal life?"
"I don't know what Ciri would consider normal. I just need her to survive this."

The ages in this show!! I have made some jokes about this before, but it gets me - with aging Ciri up and bringing her closer to Jaskiers age when they meet I can not help but draw parallels. Like Geralt bonded way differently with both of them (which makes sense because Ciri has been his Child surprise since birth and Jaskier just randomly turned up one day and followed him like a puppy) but it's so funny to me. also I'm 100% sure Jaskier was horny as fuck from the beginning so there was a whole different vibe from the get go

jaskier is a mirror. a reflection of the world around him—its joy and laughter, its heartaches and loss.
jaskier is a dandelion. hardy and dependable—always showing up again in the spring. asking others what they yearn for.
jaskier is a song. ever present the second he shows up—filling the silence around him. he is the quiet humming of a maidservant doing her chores, the soft whistle of a farmer tending to his animals. an unconscious reminder that he won't be easily forgotten. he's the stories that will live through the ages forever

whether dandelion was originally intentionally queer coded or not could be debated, but i honestly can with confidence say that he definitely is regardless of intention ESPECIALLY when you look at how he’s written through a modern lense, and i feel like it is really weird how in twn they’re “trying” to not lean into the queer coding and denying it despite adding things not in the books to make it even easier to interpret jaskier as queer……
maybe it’s because they don’t want to make geraskier canon but like….. you can still make jaskier canonically queer without a gay ship being canon there’s more to being queer than romance
i have mixed feelings about geralt and dandelion/jaskiers relationship and dynamic as a whole in twn especially the contrast between the book version and the netflix version. i dont have a strong opinion on the changes in geralts character, but it feels a bit lazy when there is obvious room for character development especially in his opinion about destiny and his relationship with jaskier. also the “apology” jaskier got from geralt was really half-assed and jaskier deserves better i do hope things are made better in season 3
i’m willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt for now, considering we have two more seasons confirmed, but the way it’s gone so far is really questionable and i want better

I think its SO funny that twn is currently playing the “Jaskier and Geralt have always been platonic” card because twn is the same show that has always HEAVILY implied they fucked at least once

i really take a lot of comfort (lie) in knowing that twn did such a great (lie) job of portraying Geralt’s and Yennefer’s reunion scene post wild hunt attack. I mean who would even want to hear the book version when the show makes it so its jokes and uncle j*skier going “oheueheh do that thing with your tongue, oo is there unicorn, ooo yes take me” who wants to hear that about their parents.
