Some Thoughts on the importance of physical touch and connection for the Hells: A reflection on the new animated intro.
Tumblr media
In general, I think the Hells are a really strange and special group, especially for a dnd party. They pretty much laid all their baggage on the table within the first week of meeting each other (What the Fuck is Up With That?) almost as a litmus test: "hey, here's all the shit that comes with being me, last chance to run away if that's too much."
and none of them did. and they all kept choosing to stay, even as shit got even weirder and more and more disturbing answers came to light. I think that continued choice from all of them - to stay - is what makes the bonds between the Hells so deep and so special.
okay trauma analysis and party dynamics is a DIFFERENT POST but it was all RELEVANT INTRODUCTION bc the CHOOSING TO STAY and the KNOWING EACH OTHERS' SHIT are like. key components to understanding why I am so feral about this. okay hopefully you will understand. the body of my essay is below. it has pictures. it got... too long. so. it went under a read more. yw. anyway click below if you want a very detailed analysis of an animated intro that is literally only one minute and thirty seconds long
For the first bit, character intros for Fearne, Orym, Imogen, Ashton, there’s no physical contact.
BUT. First intro of hells as a team. Ashton Trauma Flashback interrupted by laudna approaching slowly from beside him with her hand gently in front of him to signal her presence without startling him, and THEN just talking at them. Bringing him out of those flashbacks. Reminding him where he is and who he’s with.
Tumblr media
And tbh? For Ashton? Touch is always iffy, so this is almost a more understanding and kind way to bring them out of the flashback. Just physical presence is good! UNLESS. (unless) first actual touch. Fearne stealing their coin purse, so gently that they don’t even notice it (FLIRTING THROUGH THEFT callowmoore my beloved)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also grabbed the cap that shows her with his coinpurse these fucking ANIMATORS)
okay pt 2 FLYING OFF THE AIRSHIP
Tumblr media
Ashton's first instinct and priority is grab laudna’s hand bc he KNOWS she is made of paper mache and he is ALWAYS watching out for her out of the corner of his eye bc she is breakable and he’s not gonna let her break bc he KNOWS what it’s like to be breakable and need someone to catch you when you’re falling but ANYWAY. he grabs her he uses his hammer as a fulcrum to throw her at Imogen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because OF COURSE he knows that the safest and most comfortable space for laudna is in imogen’s arms. and the two of them wrap their arms around each other and hold tight Superman style bc ofc they do and once laudna is in imogen’s arms she’s absolutely delighted by this whole situation bc OFC SHE IS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(tf do you mean I can’t add more than ten images on mobile UGH fine I’ll finish writing then draft and move to PC the images are IMPORTANT TO MY POINT anyway insert lesbians here) (note from future mind: I have decided that these pic descriptions i left for myself to grab the right images are fucking hilarious so they’re staying in yw)
Then fearne (who had been on her way in that direction already) swoops under Ashton to catch him as he flips over from the momentum so he can land on her giant bird back and she can fly him away.
(Pics: It’s fine to touch Ash if you’re saving their life)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also not pictured: chet staying on the ship but losing his hat, orym grabbing it out of the air, imogen casting fly on fcg right before she catches laudna, fcg flying over to grab orym) All of this happens in six seconds by the way. One round of combat. These animators are fucking incredible.
BACK TO CHARACTER INTROS laudna who is ofc alone and in the dark at the bottom of the Sun tree, reliving her past…
(Pic: sad lonely laudna)
Tumblr media
right up until Imogen puts her head on her shoulder, and the darkness burns away into light. She doesn’t say anything, or talk with laudna - all it takes is that physical reminder that she’s not alone anymore, that there is warmth, that she is surrounded by a family who loves her so much they chose to turn down comfortable beds in a lord’s manor so that they could join her in sleeping at the bottom of the Sun Tree. (Fav lil detail - fearne wrapped around Orym like he’s a teddy bear, and holding tight to laudna’s blanket to make sure she can’t go anywhere.)
(Pics: THE POWER OF LESBIANS AND FOUND FAMILY)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
fcg. Fuck. Starts with their flashback, with their red eyes and their buzzsaw, but almost immediately we see Ashton reach out to grab their shoulder and Orym whip out a vine to tie up their saw.
(pics: reaching out even if it might hurt youuuuu)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imogen goes on her knees and wraps her arms around FCG’s other side, and the rest of them all gather around him, holding him to keep him and each other safe, but mostly just grounding him in the present by surrounding him physically until the flashback fades and he’s once more aware of his surroundings.
(Pics: what the fuck they just need to be held)
Tumblr media
(once shit has calmed down fearne uses this opportunity to pick Ashton’s pocket again. Flirting through theft).
(Pic: fearne is a menace to society)
Tumblr media
final fight scene. fuck yes.
(Pic: IT’S THURSDAY NIIIIIIIIIIIGHT)
Tumblr media
This is mostly just giving all of them room to be badasses (as they deserve) - but there are some things!! First!!
(pics: THESE WITCHES BE BITCHES minus fearne sry fearne we miss u but you are on fire and laudna is made of wood currently)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imogen and laudna casting spells back to back, trusting each other to take care of what’s on their side. Inseparable, even in a battle where their party has scattered to fight other enemies.
BUT. The BIG thing though in this sequence. Maybe my favorite part? Idk I don’t have a favorite. But!! Orym. taking out four of Otohan’s shadow knights. then facing off against her personally!! And it’s one-on-one, because this was Orym’s task alone - to find the person who attacked his leader and killed his family. He’s angry, but mostly he’s honed-in and focused and determined. This is his mission.
(Pics: WHO’S JUST A LIL GUY NOW HUH)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then, when Otohan pushes him back…
(Pic: fuck. shit. fuck. im. fine. anYway. them.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FCG and Ashton are there right behind him, and they put their arms out and catch him so he doesn’t fly back any farther. And there’s this look of surprise on his face, because once he lost Will, he never expected there to be anyone else standing behind him, ready to catch him. And yet, here they are.
(Pics: fuck yes fuck yes fuck yes GOOOO ORYM!!!)
Tumblr media
They give Orym a push forward and follow behind him, and he walks back towards Otohan with confidence. Lil grin on his face, brisk walking pace - he even does a little fancy sword swoosh! Because maybe he’s not strong enough to take out Otohan on his own. But the thing is, he’s not alone anymore.
(Pic: THEY.)
Tumblr media
None of them are alone. And whenever any of them forget, or slip into old habits and memories, the rest are right there to reach out a hand to remind them.
Building a family out of broken pieces is difficult even without an apocalypse. But the Hells have shown each other, over and over and over, often with their actions even more than their words, that they really are dedicated to this family that they've built together. This intro fucking slaps so hard and the animators deserve so much praise for how incredible this intro is

Can I request a Natalie x Jackies little sister reader, who is the opposite of Jackie, via personality wise? Like she's quiet, nerdy, not athletic like at all, and is a goody-two-shoes (Jackie makes fun of her for it but also intends to keep it that way,) and the reader ends up getting dragged by Jackie, and the readers awful bf at the time to this party, Jackie goes and gets lost with shauna doing whatever (✂️) ANYWAYS she gets into a really bad argument with her boyfriend because he wants to have sex with her and she refuses. Natalie ends up stepping in and helps her out, defends her, and drives her home. Natalie has also, like, always had a crush on her, too. Natalie and the reader start to get super close and secretly dating, and Jackie ends up finding out about them via the readers' diary, and she's kind of upset at first but ends up allowing it after confronting Natalie after practice, who proves to Jackie that she loves the reader and wants to protect her no matter what. Idk sorry about it being all detailed 😭😭
All My Ghosts
Summary: literally just the prompt
Warning(s): cursing (more than usual), manipulation (from r bf), pressure to have sex, drug usage, smoking, drinking, non-consensual kissing (from bf), not proofread (spelling and grammar mistakes are not my problem actually)
Reader can either be read as a comphet lesbian or bisexual/pansexual, whichever you prefer <3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Y/n, let's GO!" your sister, Jackie, yelled from the bottom of the stairs up to your room. Instead of responding to her, you just rolled your eyes and finished lacing up your shoes. You didn't even want to go to this party, but your boyfriend, Brad, wanted you to go. And for some reason, Jackie agreed with him. Something about you being there with her for "moral support". Like she needed that. If anything, you were the one who needed moral support for a party.
When you were finally finished getting ready, you walked out of your bedroom and down the stairs to meet Jackie.
"God, finally. Shauna's going to wonder where we are." She twirls the keys to her car in her hand, and you just roll your eyes again.
"More like wonder where you are."
"She's your friend, too."
"Barely."
The less than a year between you and Jackie meant that the two of you grew up really close, and that her friends became your friends. Since both of you were in the same grade, you didn't have to worry a lot about making your own friends. Jackie was good about including you, and you got along well with Shauna and the other girls from the soccer team.
But sometimes, on days like this, you wished you had friends of your own. Maybe they wouldn't make you go to some stupid party with them.
"Come on." Jackie started walking towards your front door and out to the car. Honestly, you were surprised she was even driving. Normally Jeff or Shauna picked her up.
"Fine, whatever," you replied, walking out after her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the two of you arrived, the party was already in full swing. Where Brad could be, you had no idea. And unfortunately for you, Jackie had no problem finding Shauna.
Soon enough, you were standing alone in the foyer of Lottie's giant house.
Suddenly, you see Brad. Quickly, you start walking towards him.
"Babe! Hey!" He pulls you into his side as soon as you come near him. He smells like weed and cheap beer, and you can't help but wrinkle your nose.
"Hi," you smile at him, trying to ignore the smell. Instead of continuing to talk to you, though, he immediately went back to whatever conversation he'd been having, not even trying to include you. This happened a lot. Brad would immediately assume you weren't interested in anything he'd been talking about, and practically ignore you.
You sat there in silence for a while before you decided it was time to get a drink.
"Hey, I'm going to grab a drink. Do you want anything?" you ask, tapping Brad's shoulder.
"Sure. Let me come with you." When he says that, you try not to let your disappointment show. You had been trying to get away from him for a minute, but there he was, following you around.
The two of you head to the kitchen, and you pour yourself a Diet Coke, while Brad opted for another beer. As you stand at the counter, sipping you drink, he slides up behind you and starts to whisper in your ear.
"You want to get out of here?" He was trying to be seductive, but all you could focus on was how shitty his breath smelled.
"No, sorry. I promised Jackie that I'd DD." It takes a lot not to push him away entirely, but you can't help but turn your head away as he spoke.
"Baby, I'm sure your sister can find another ride home. Come on." He was beginning to sound like a child, but you kept your cool.
"I'm sure she could, but I really don't need a pissed off Jackie in my life right now. Plus, I'd just rather not risk it." By now, you'd pulled away fully, not wanting to deal with whatever was going on.
"Y/n, come on. I need something. We haven't had sex in so long." He was louder now, and you were sure people heard.
"And I said not tonight."
"You're such a-"
"She said no, asshole. Leave her alone." Brad was cut off by a voice that you recognized. Natalie Scatorccio, one of the girls on your sister's soccer team. You didn't know her that well, and Jackie wasn't her biggest fan. But you were extremely grateful for her in this moment.
"This is none of your business, bitch. Who the fuck are you, anyways?" Brad was clearly pissed off, whether it was because he was interrupted or because it was Natalie who interrupted him, you couldn't tell.
"It doesn't matter who I am, and this became my business the minute you started yelling at y/n in the middle of the kitchen. She doesn't want to fuck you. Get over it."
"How does this bitch even know your name?" Brad's wrath was turned towards you now, and you weren't sure how to react.
"She's... uh, a friend. Of my sister's. They play soccer together," you manage to mumble out, embarrassed over the whole situation.
"Oh, so you need one of your sister's friends to fight your battles for you now? Fuck this. We're over. I don't want to be with a prude." With that, Brad finally walked away. Part of you wanted to follow him, but the majority of you didn't. Not after what he just pulled.
"Shit. I didn't mean for him to break up with you. Just leave you alone." Natalie did truly look apologetic, but you weren't upset with her at all.
"No, it's fine. I've been thinking about breaking up with him anyway. I've just been to nervous. So really, I should be thanking you." You tried to make light of the entire situation, wanting to relieve some of the tension.
"Well, he seemed like a dick. Is he always like that?"
You pause for a moment before speaking. "No, not always. When we first got together, he was perfect. But for the past month or so, he's been a lot pushier when it comes to physical stuff."
Natalie nods, taking it in.
"Do you want to get out of here?" You ask suddenly, hoping you don't sound weird.
"Don't you have to take Jackie home?" She looked at you quizzically, and you mentally cursed yourself.
As if on cue, Jackie appeared in the kitchen. "Y/n! I was looking for you. You don't care if I go with Shauna to her place, do you?'
"No, go ahead. Just give me the car keys." You hold out your hand for the keys, and Jackie happily gives them to you. Once she's gone from the kitchen, you turn back to Natalie.
"Well, not anymore."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two of you sat in your car, music playing softly through the stereo. You had no idea what you planned on doing, but it was nice to do something spontaneous for once in your life.
"Is there anywhere you want to be going?" You ask, not knowing exactly what Natalie would be into.
"Nah." She sits there in silence for a moment before turning to you, cigarette in hand. "Do you care if I smoke in here?"
"Roll down the window. I'm not sure I want my parents thinking I've been smoking."
She does as she's asked and rolls down the window before lighting up the cigarette, which kind of impresses you with the wind.
"So you're keeping up the "good girl" act even when I'm the only one here, huh?" She asks before taking a drag of the cigarette.
"What "good girl act"? This is just my personality." You take a turn and decide that you want to go to the beach. You've always loved the ocean, and with a night like tonight you deserved to do what you wanted.
"God, not even Jackie's this innocent. Have you ever broken a rule in your life?" She's not being mean, at least you don't think she is.
"I'm not innocent, just careful." You pause for a beat before answering her question, "And yes, I've broken rules. You think Jackie and I were supposed to be at that party?"
"Touché, I guess. Where do your parents think you are?" She looks over at you as she takes a drag from the cigarette, and something about the whole thing makes your heart flutter. Probably from the rebellion of it all.
"Well, they aren't even home, but before they left, Jackie said we were staying with Shauna. Which, I guess is kind of the truth." You maneuver the car into a random parking lot with a beach entrance and gesture for Natalie to get out.
The both of you step out of the car, and you move to the trunk to see if you have a blanket or something else to sit on. You find a towel that you're sure has been there since the last time you were at the beach, but it'll work for now. Nat didn't seem to be the picky type, and you didn't much care what you sat on as long as it wasn't sand.
You shut the trunk and begin walking toward the beach, turning around to make sure that Natalie is following you. She is.
It doesn't take long to find a spot in the sand to settle into. The beach is mostly empty, the occasional couple or group of friends scattered across the beach, but none were close enough to bother you. You set the towel down, smoothing it best you can, trying very hard to not let it get sandy.
"Ladies first," you tease, gesturing for Natalie to sit down before plopping down next to her.
She rolls her eyes, but clearly doesn't mind the teasing.
"The beach, huh? This your happy place or somethin'?"
"Happy place is a stretch. That would be a bookstore. But all of those are closed, so this is my second best option. I've just always loved the water. Not that we could swim right now." The words just kind of spill out, and you're surprised at how easy it was to talk to Natalie. Probably because she saved your ass earlier.
"Nerd." It's her turn to tease you now, but her tone is affectionate. This girl is a far cry from the burnout stoner that Jackie is always talking about.
"Oh, whatever."
"You can't even deny it. You're a rule follower, your good-girl act isn't an act, and your happy place is a goddamned bookstore. Nerd."
"Because you're soooooo much cooler than me, with your smoking and your leather jackets." you lean back on the towel, using your elbows to prop you up.
"I didn't say you weren't cool, I said you were a nerd. Don't twist my words." She takes another drag of her cigarette, blowing smoke into the warm night air. She looks captivating, all sharp angles and edges and lines.
"Those two things do tend to go hand in hand, you know."
"Not for you. You're a total nerd, but you're cool. At least I think you are."
You let out a scoff, not knowing whether to take her statement as a compliment, or an insult, or both.
"Was that supposed to be a compliment..?"
She just laughs, looking up to the sky. It's nice with her, you realize. There's no pressure to do or say anything. Normally it's so difficult for you to talk to people, let alone actually make friends. But with Natalie everything came easily.
"Why'd you save my ass earlier?" you ask, finally getting up the courage to ask the question that's been plaguing you since you got in the car with Natalie.
"Looked like you needed it." She shrugs, like it's no big deal. Like Brad couldn't have beaten her ass if he wanted to.
"Yeah, but you barely know me. Most people wouldn't do that for a stranger."
"You're not a stranger. Not exactly. There's also the fact that I don't deal with assholes well."
"I mean, I'm really grateful, don't get me wrong. It was really good of you to do that. Just... surprising, is all."
She's silent for a moment, and you're worried that you might have said something to offend her. Your mind begins reeling, and you backtrack to figure out what it was that you said.
"Jackie been telling you about me?" she asks, and you realize what it really is, why she was really silent.
Now it's your turn to be quiet. You don't know what to say without saying something that could make the situation worse.
"Not... just Jackie. I've noticed you, you know? You don't exactly give the vibe that you'd save a girl you barely know at a party. I know I shouldn't assume based on rumors, or vibes." You hope your explanation doesn't upset her.
"I know what vibe I give off. I get it, I guess."
"You aren't what I expected, though. In a good way." You smile at her. It's true. She's not what everyone thinks she is. And you like it.
"Thanks."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two days later, you sat on your bed with Jackie, explaining the whole situation with Brad. She had spent the weekend at Shauna's, and the news of the breakup had barely reached her. Which meant you got to explain. Yipee.
"Yeah, so he was super pushy, which was honestly a bit unexpected. Maybe because I'm so used to just saying yes. Begging me to sleep with him, telling me he "needed it". It was gross, honestly."
"And he'd never been like that with you before?" Jackie's clearly upset, which honestly makes you feel a little bit better.
"Yeah, never," you assure her.
"So then what?"
"Uh, Natalie actually stepped in." You scan your sister's face for a reaction, not exactly knowing what to expect.
"Natalie? Natalie Scatorccio? The same girl who shows up to practice high, or drunk, or both half the time? That Natalie?" Jackie looks completely perplexed, like she could never understand how Natalie was the one that helped you get away from Brad.
"That's the one. Then she and I just... left. The party. We went to the beach. Talked. It was nice." You shrug, not exactly knowing where to go from here. You wanted to defend Natalie, you really did, but with Jackie it was just so... difficult.
"That's... good of her, I guess?"
"She's not what you think she is, you know." You try to sound nonchalant, like your head hasn't been clouded with thoughts of Natalie since the party. You missed her. Of course you did. She was your first shot at a friend in a while.
"I guess she's not."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jesus Christ." You slam your textbook shut, annoyed. Something's been tapping your window for what feels like hours. You get up and walk over to see what it is. You look down, and who do you see but Natalie Scatorccio, literally throwing pebbles at your window.
You slide your window open and hiss down at her.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting your attention." She smirks up at you, and your annoyance fades, but doesn't disappear.
"It's eleven thirty at night. I'm studying."
"Oh, come on y/n. Live a little. I just want to hang out."
"Natalie."
"Fine, if you really don't want to, I'll go."
"No, fine. Stay there." You quickly close the window and grab your shoes and a jacket. You're grateful that she showed up. You'd been debating talking to her at school, but she had friends. What if your hangout was a one-time thing, and she really didn't like you.
But that was all nullified by the fact that she showed up to your house. That she threw pebbles at your window. That she wanted to talk to you, too.
It was a nice feeling.
As quietly as possible, you snuck out of the house, grateful for both the distance from your parents room to the front door, and their early bedtime. What you were doing could barely be considered sneaking out. It was just leaving the house.
Nat met you in the front of your house, smirk still on her face. Part of you wanted to be annoyed at her, but most of you was excited. You'd never done something like this before.
"You're a bad influence, you know."
"I said you didn't have to come with me." She was right about that. There was no pressure from Natalie for you to leave your house with her.
"Still a bad influence," you say, rolling your eyes. "What are we doing, anyway?"
"Hanging out."
"That's a horrible answer."
"Shut up. I didn't have anything in mind, really. I just wanted to hang out with you again." She shrugs and pulls out a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of her leather jacket. Soon enough, a cigarette is between her lips, and she's working on lighting it. Which she does, effortlessly.
It's kind of attractive.
Wait, what? Attractive? No. Not attractive. It would be attractive if she were a boy. But she's not. It's just... intriguing.
Yeah. Intriguing.
Your mind is working at a thousand miles a minute, and it must be evident on your face, because Nat gives you a concerned look.
"You good? You're not freaking out because you snuck out, are you? Because we're literally still in your front yard. You've barely even snuck out at this point." She genuinely looks a bit concerned, but she keeps her tone light, trying to keep you from freaking out further.
You snap out of whatever trance you were in and give Natalie a little nod. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking."
She nods in acknowledgement, not pressing the issue, which you appreciate. You don't want to lie, but you're not sure you want to tell her that you maybe find her attractive.
But you don't, right?
"Seriously, what are we doing? Nothing's even open right now."
"We could go to a gas station," she says, offhandedly, and you let out a little laugh.
"A gas station? You have me sneak out of my house so we can what? Get midnight Slurpees?"
"Do you have any better ideas?"
She had you there. You didn't have any better ideas. In fact, a midnight Slurpee actually sounded pretty good.
"Fine."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A ten minute walk later, and the two of you stood within the fluorescent lighting of the local seven-eleven. Natalie was already making the most horrendous Slurpee combination known to man, and you were debating on what to get. As usual.
"Y/n, are you just going to stand there the rest of the night?" She asks, taking a drink of her concoction.
"I'm thinking. Also, that's an abomination." Her drink was truly disgusting. She had mixed every flavor possible, and none of them went together. It honestly almost made you gag.
She just grinned at you, and you couldn't help but smile back. Even if she should never be able to drink a Slurpee again.
Finally, you decided on what you wanted. Plain cherry. Why it took you so long to decide, you had no idea. It was the same flavor you'd been getting practically your entire life.
"You're boring as shit, y/n," She teases, and you shoot her a glare.
"At least I'm not drinking whatever the fuck that is." You finish filling your cup, and nudge her shoulder as you walk to the cash register to pay.
"Here." You turn to Nat and take her cup from her, giving it to the middle-aged woman at the register.
"I can pay for my own, you know." She sounds a little pissed off, and you can't tell why.
Oh, shit. Because she didn't have a lot of money. She must have thought you were pitying her. Which, you weren't. But she had no way of knowing that.
"Yeah, but you're my friend. I'm going to treat you. But if it makes you feel better, you can get it next time," your tone is teasing, and you try to lighten the mood a little bit.
"Fine." Her voice softened, and you mentally patted yourself on the back.
You grab your cups from the cashier, and hand Natalie hers before walking out of the store.
"Where to next?" She asks, following your lead.
"I think there's a park nearby."
She nods, and you begin making your way to the park. You hadn't been there in years, but the thought of going there now exhilarated you.
The two of you walked in a comfortable silence to the playground, which was completely empty due to how late it was. No kids would be there this time.
"Swings?" You ask, looking at Natalie for confirmation. She nods, and you make your way to the old swing set.
"I'm glad you came over. I'm glad we're doing this," you blurt out, not really meaning to. You didn't really want to sound desperate for friends or anything. But it was nice.
"I didn't know if you'd even come outside. Not to mention that I was terrified that I was throwing rocks at your parents window, or worse, Jackie's."
"I normally wouldn't have. But I've been hoping to hang out again since Friday."
"Thinking about me, huh?" she's teasing, you know she doesn't mean it in the way it sounds. But you flush red anyways, and hope she doesn't see.
"All the time," you quip back, matching her energy. She laughs, and butterflies explode in your stomach.
Fuck.
Were you falling for Natalie Scatorccio?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been two weeks of hanging out with Natalie, and it's only solidified your feelings for her. Which was freaking you out. You'd never felt this way about a girl before, and it was even more insane because it was Natalie.
You groaned and buried your head into your pillow. Why were you like this? You'd never felt like this about anyone, not even Brad. Why did she draw you in so quickly and easily?
"Y/n, do you have my-" Jackie suddenly stops talking, seeing your state. You're obviously distressed, and she immediately makes her way over to your bed. She sits down and rests a hand on your leg.
"Are you okay?" She asks, concerned.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just going through a lot." You roll onto your back and stare at the ceiling.
"You upset about Brad?"
You nod, even though you know it's not the truth. You haven't even thought about him since the breakup, but Jackie doesn't need to know that. It's not that Jackie wouldn't be okay with you liking a girl. She probably would be. You'd had suspicions about her and Shauna for a while. It's the fact that you like Natalie that she wouldn't be okay with. She was barely okay with the two of you being friends.
"I get it. Let me know if you want to talk about it, okay?" She genuinely looks like she wants to help, and you smile in return.
"I'm okay, thanks. Just a lot on my mind, you know?"
She hums and pats your leg before standing up and leaving your bedroom, again leaving you alone with your thoughts.
It's times like these when you really wished you had close friends. You couldn't talk to Jackie about it because it's about Natalie, and you couldn't talk to Natalie. For obvious reasons.
So you turn to the only thing that won't judge you. Your journal.
April 9, 1996
Shit. I think I like a girl. Well, I know I like a girl. What does that mean for me? Should I tell her? What if she doesn't like me? What if she tells everyone and thinks I'm a freak? Not that I think Natalie would do that. She seems okay with gay people. But what if?
Not to mention that it's Natalie. No fucking way. My parents would freak. Not even just because of the whole "being with a girl" thing. But because Natalie is the opposite of everything they want for me.
There's just something about her, though. That makes me not care. About my parents, about Jackie, about anyone. She's just so her. She makes me want to be someone different. Someone interesting More myself, honestly.
You finish writing and shut the book, sticking it back in the hiding place under your mattress. Stereotypical, you know, but you weren't worried about anyone reading it. Your parents were decent about privacy, and Jackie just wouldn't do that to you.
"Y/n! Someone's here for you!" Your mom yells up the stairs, and you peek your head out the doorway of your bedroom and look down the stairs. In the doorway stands Natalie, cigarette in hand. You immediately walk down the stairs and practically drag her to your room.
"Jesus, Nat. You could warn a girl." You're not mad, exactly, but you hadn't exactly warned your parents about Natalie's look. Or her smoking habit. You didn't plan on telling them about the smoking at all, actually. Or the drugs. Or the alcohol.
"You mad I showed up to see you?" She genuinely looks hurt, and you backtrack a little.
"No. It's just that my parents..."
"Oh, so you're scared of what your parents would think of their perfect daughter hanging out with a drug addicted burnout like me?" She's clearly angry now, and you curse yourself.
"Nat, come on."
"Fuck off, y/n. You don't have to talk to me, you know."
"I want to talk to you! I like being your friend! My parents just have certain expectations for me, okay? For both of us. I just don't need a lecture or for them to tell me I'm not allowed to see you anymore." You hope your explanation makes Natalie understand.
She softens, and it's clear your words have gotten through to her.
"I don't want to feel like you're ashamed to be friends with me because I'm not what mommy and daddy wanted."
"I'm not, I swear. I really, really like being around you. So I don't need my parents deciding they hate you from the jump."
She smiles when you say that you like being around her, and your heart jumps. God, what was this girl doing to you?
"Alright, I get it. I won't smoke around your parents, 'kay?"
"Thank you."
"I actually came over to ask you if you were going to go to that party on Friday? Lottie's hosting." You're surprised at her words. She came all the way over to your house just to ask if you were going to a party? Odd.
"Uh, yeah, I heard about it. I didn't think about going, though. No reason to, without Brad dragging me there."
"Not a party person?"
"Not particularly, no."
"Would you go if I promised to hang out with you?" She's teasing you and you know it, yet her question somehow sounds genuine.
"I'll think about it," you say, already knowing your answer. She had you wrapped around your finger. You'd do just about anything if Natalie was there with you.
"That's a yes, right?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few days later, and you found yourself in front of your vanity mirror, attempting to get your hair to look right. It's not that it looked bad... it looked normal. But you wanted it to look good.
For Natalie
No, fuck. Not for Natalie. For yourself.
And maybe for Natalie.
You gave up on your hair and went to touch up your makeup. Nothing much, some highlighter. Eyeliner. Mascara. Minimal. You, but different.
Finally, you're ready to go. You don't look perfect, but who cared about that? It was a high school party. No one looked perfect. You were teenagers, for fuck's sake.
"Jackie! Are you ready?" You stepped into the hallway. It was finally your turn to get back at Jackie for all the years she had spent yelling at you to hurry up.
"Christ, y/n. What's your deal?" She walks into the hall, somehow looking better than you could even fathom. How she managed to do that, you had no idea. Honestly, it was impressive.
"Nothing. I just want to leave." You shrug, feigning nonchalance. You don't really want to explain to Jackie why you're so hard pressed to go to this party.
"Whatever. Let's go, then."
With that, she's off down the hall, expecting you to follow her. And of course, you do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You couldn't find Natalie anywhere at the party. You'd searched every room, and you were starting to get upset. Why would she ditch you? You thought she was really your friend. Was this some sort of really fucked up prank?
Taking a deep breath, you tried to rationalize it. Natalie could be mean, sure. But never intentionally cruel, not like this. She was probably just running late. Or didn't think you'd get there as early as you did.
You stood at the edge of the kitchen, being a wallflower, as usual. It was kind of interesting to watch the party go on. Everyone talking and laughing and drinking. If nothing else, you were at least entertained.
Suddenly, someone walked up behind you and tapped on your shoulder. You turned around excitedly, assuming it was Natalie.
It wasn't.
Behind you stood Brad. He looked the same, which, why wouldn't he? It had only been a few weeks since the breakup.
"Hey, y/n. I was hoping to talk to you. About us." He looked almost hopeful, and you found it gross.
"There's no us anymore. You tried to pressure me into having sex with you. That isn't good boyfriend behavior," You say, turning away from him again and starting to walk away.
Brad reached out and grabbed your wrist, stopping you from walking away. When you turned around to confront him and tell him to let you go, he leaned in and kissed you. Hard
For a moment, you didn't know what to do. You weren't expecting him to kiss you. But then you came to your senses and pushed him away. Just as hard as he had kissed you.
"Fuck you. That's fucking disgusting." This time, when you turned to walk away, he left you alone. You made your way out of the kitchen and into Lottie's giant living room, where you finally found Nat.
When you saw her, you smiled and started making your way over to her, but she just glared and turned away. Once you walked over to where she was standing with Kevyn, she didn't even glance in your direction.
"Nat, hey," you said, a bit confused. You didn't know why she was acting the way that she was.
She didn't respond and just kept talking to Kevyn, like you weren't even there. Like you didn't exist at all.
"Hey, what's going on right now?"
"Nothing. It just looks like you found better company than me." Her tone is cold, and you start to get a little upset with her.
"What's that supposed to mean, Natalie?"
With this, Kevyn decided it was time for him to walk away. Neither you nor Natalie stopped him.
"It means you found someone you'd rather be here with."
"I've been standing at this godforsaken party alone, waiting for you, and you think I've found someone else to hang out with?" Your voice is rising, and you're sure other people are watching you.
"I think you're more than hanging out with him."
With that, you grab Natalie's wrist and drag her outside of the party, not wanting any more attention on you.
"What the fuck is your problem? You show up late, you don't come find me, and when I do see you you're cryptic as fuck!" You're seething, and all you want is to know what Natalie's issue is.
"Oh, what's my problem? Maybe that you were kissing the guy who practically assaulted you a month ago! Not to mention that you were supposed to be here with me!"
"That's what this is about? I don't like him, Natalie! If you had asked instead of assuming, you'd know that! I am here with you! You're the only fucking person I want to be around, don't you get that?" That last part just slipped out, and you clap your hands over your mouth.
Natalie looks at you for a moment, shocked, but she quickly recovers. Her face is guarded again, and you can't tell how she's going to react to what you just said. You don't even know if she guessed the true meaning of your words.
"Why were you kissing him, then?" Her voice is still hard, but it's lost some of the anger within it from before.
"He kissed me. I didn't want him to. He's not who I want to be with."
"Shit."
"That's all you have to say right now? Shit? I go to a party I didn't even want to be at because you asked me to, I get kissed by my ex and the one person I know would understand gets weirdly jealous and asshole-y about it! And then I all but tell you I want to be with you and you say is shit?" You're fuming now. You've never done anything like this before. You've always been sweet and shy and non-confrontational.
"Jesus Christ, y/n!"
That's when she does it. She walks over to you and more gently than you thought possible from her, she cups your face and kisses you. It's soft, surprisingly, but there's an underlying desperation to it that makes you go insane for her.
You pull away after a moment, and you can't help but stare at her. You can't come up with a single word to say after that kiss. It was everything you'd been wanting, no, craving for weeks.
"Does that give you an answer?"
"I think so. I might need another, just to be sure, though."
She gladly kisses you again, and you practically melt. This time, the desperation is a bit clearer. It's turned from soft lips to tongues and teeth in an instant, and you have to remind yourself that you're in public.
"We should head back to my house."
"Good idea."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The next afternoon, you're sitting on your bed, journaling. Natalie had left that morning, before both your parents and Jackie had gotten up. You didn't ask her to leave, but she promised to see you at some point this weekend.
April 12, 1996
Holy shit, she kissed me. She kissed me. I didn't even know she liked girls, let alone me. I think we're together now? I mean, we didn't like talk about it. But she promised me she'd see me later.
I don't know how I'm going to tell Jackie. Or my parents. Jackie might be okay with me liking a girl, but she'd hate that I like Natalie of all people. I have no idea how I'm going to tell her.
It's fine, I don't have to tell anyone, right? I'm sure Nat would be okay with it. Maybe she doesn't want it public either.
I'm trying really hard not to worry about this. Really fucking hard. It's just so new. I've never done anything like this before.
With that, you take a deep breath and close the book, putting it away in the usual spot. There was no point in worrying anymore. There was nothing you could do until you talked to Natalie about your plans.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday morning, Natalie stood by your locker, smiling, really smiling at you. You can't help but smile back. She was your girlfriend, like, officially. She called you yesterday, two days after your kiss, and the both of you went out. It wasn't a fancy date, just sitting with her as she smoked. But you talked, and you kissed, and you made everything official.
It wasn't like you were screaming that you were together from the rooftops. Wiskayok was still relatively conservative. And neither of you were out as anything. But Natalie planned on telling Kevyn and Van, while you were working up the courage to tell Jackie.
"Hey. You're going to Calc, right? I'm headed in that direction."
"Yeah, I am." You couldn't help but smile wider. Your girlfriend was walking you to class.
"Cool."
She starts off, and you fall into step next to her. It was such an insignificant moment to most, but it showed she cared about you.
"See you after practice?" She asks, feigning nonchalance.
"Yeah, I'm taking Jackie home. I'll make sure to stop by." You give her a quick smile and make sure to brush her arm before walking into class.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A month of dates with Natalie had passed, and you were sure you were in love. She was still a snarky mess, but she also had the kindest soul you'd ever seen. Always checking on you, listening to you talk about anything and everything.
The only issue was Jackie. And the fact that you hadn't told her yet. She was acting a little weird to you, and you thought she suspected you were dating someone new. But she was letting you tell her when you were ready, which you appreciated.
You stood at your car, waiting for Jackie to take the both of you home when you heard it. Jackie, and Natalie. Arguing. About something.
Feeling a bit nosy, you walked towards the noise, listening in. It wasn't hard. They were being very, very loud.
"Why wouldn't you tell me that your latest hookup was my sister?" When you heard Jackie, your heart started pounding. How could she know?
"Hookup? You think we're just hooking up?"
"Isn't that all you do? Fuck?"
You wince at that, and almost say something to signal that you're standing there.
"Fuck off, Jackie. What me and y/n do in our spare time is actually none of your concern. And just so you know, she's not just a hookup. I really like her. Like, more than anyone else I've ever been with. And if you had let her tell you that instead of jumping to conclusions, you'd know that." Nat stormed off in your direction, and stopped as soon as she saw you.
"Shit. Did you hear all that?"
"Yeah. Give me a second. I have to talk to Jackie." You walk towards your sister, pissed.
"Jackie, what the hell? How did you know Nat and I were together? And who said we were just hooking up? Why would you assume that? Jesus Christ."
"Y/n, I just thought, because she only does hookups, that you were a casual thing! I didn't want you hurt!" She's trying so hard to make this okay, make you not mad at her. It isn't working.
"How'd you even find out?"
"Your journal." She sounds sheepish, and you only get angrier at this.
"You read my fucking journal?"
"You just seemed off! I wanted to make sure you were okay!" She's defensive, but there's a bit of an apology in her voice.
"Not an excuse, Jackie. I like Natalie, okay? And she made it clear how she feels about me. So fuck off." You knew that you still had to take Jackie home, but you didn't care.
Natalie still stood there, seemingly a bit hurt by what Jackie had said, but she was clearly happy with how you reacted.
"Can you take me home? I don't feel like dealing with Jackie right now," you ask, intertwining your fingers.
"After that shit show? Absolutely." She leads you to where her beat up old car was parked, and you sat yourself in the front seat.
"I'm sorry, about Jackie. She's normally not that insane."
"Not your fault. And I got to hear about how much you love me, so it's a win, honestly." She smirks at you from the drivers seat as she pulls out of the parking lot, and you squeezer her hand.
"Yeah well, I got to hear the same from you."
"It's just the truth."
"It'd better be."

hi!!! i really love Dream Askew but can never find anyone to play. maybe because the GMless mechanic is intimidating, idk. can you recommend other games with similar themes of queerness and community?
THEME: Queer Community
oh my god, you have no idea how easy this one was, this is my shit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bump in the Dark (Revised Edition), by Jex J. Thomas.
It's 1994 in the region of the fictional Ontonagon Peninsula known as "Iron Country," a belt of mining towns barely clinging to life. These towns are surrounded on all sides by the Sylvan Wilds, a forest known for old-growth pines and strange happenings. All of Iron Country seems to be teeming with the supernatural, a fact those in power would like to conceal.
You are a hunter, and you’ve promised to keep regular people safe from the horrors in the darkness. You will investigate the strange happenings going on throughout Iron Country, attempting to put the pieces together and stop the monsters before people get hurt. Will you be able to stop the malevolent forces before their power grows too strong to contain? Will you stand strong with your found family and community or will you sacrifice yourself to spare the ones you love? Will you be lost trying to find solace wherever you can?
Inspired by media like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files, Twin Peaks, Supernatural, and more, Bump in the Dark: Revised Edition is a game of supernatural mystery and action-packed showdowns with regular folk caught in the middle. It's a game about chosen family, protecting your community, and standing up to the forces (mundane and supernatural alike) that want to tear down all you've built.
Bump in the Dark first caught my eye because it is all about monster-hunting, and monsters always make me perk up a little bit, but it also caught my interest because it marries the Theorize roll from games like External Containment Bureau and Apocalypse Keys with the Forged-in-the-Dark system, which, if you’ve followed my for any length of time, you’ll know I am a very very big fan of.
However, the game is also set in a place that feels abandoned and forgotten about by the powers that be, with the monsters acting as active opponents that threaten Last Pine’s ability to take care of itself. Your characters are all professional monster hunters, but you’re also a family, likely borne of necessity more than anything else, and that feels very queer to me.
Bump in the Dark is currently funding for it’s revised edition on Backerkit, but you can also find it in the TTRPGs for Palestine bundle!
Extreme Meatpunks Forever, by Sinister Beard Games.
"In the beginning, there was meat. A decaying chunk of flesh from a dying god, hurtling through the void of space, thousands of miles wide. A million eyes, a billion hands grasping for purchase against nothingness itself.  This is where we live.
EXTREME MEATPUNKS FOREVER is a tabletop roleplaying game where you’ll play as a gang of queer antifascists in a strange place called Meatworld. Spinning through space on the screaming corpse of a dead god under the glow of an absent sun, the people of Meatworld harvest its flesh to make their technology.
That tech includes meatmechs, giant flesh suits you can pilot. You’ve got one of these mechs, which is just as well, because Meatworld is full of monsters, old gods, a land that wants to eat you alive and so, so many fucking Nazis. You’ll play to bash the fash, explore the weirdness that is Meatworld, attack and dethrone god(s), solve mysteries like a gore dripping Scooby Gang, deal with trauma, and if you’re lucky, make out with your friends.
Extreme Meatpunks Forever is a game that includes high action and combat alongside your attempts to make connections with each-other. It’s a PbtA game that draws from games such as MASKS, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and Monster of the Week, which means that even though you’ll be fighting fascists, you’ll also be pushing each-others buttons, revealing the most vulnerable parts of yourselves, and heavily making out. If you want drama, action, and more drama, you want Extreme Meatpunks Forever.
Under Hollow Hills, by Meguey & Vincent Baker.
There is a traveling circus under the Hollow Hills. It travels by moonlight, small wagons creaking in the night silence. It travels lost roads, where fireflies and whisps hover to watch it pass, where goblins peer down from their treebranch perches, and owls. It travels the night world and the day world, fairyland and the living earth, and places otherwise, and no border can keep it. It has mysteries to pose, drama to perform, it has music, juggling, acts of death-defying peril, pratfall comedy. It has dangerous secrets to tell.
Step up, step up. Come great, come small, come revelers all!
Many of the roles of Under Hollow Hills feel like they are defined in relation to each-other; for example, the Crowned Stag is who they are because of who their parents are and who they have authority over. This game also expects much of what you do with each-other to matter; will you confront someone in order to get them to change their behaviour, or draw them out in order to understand how they are feeling?
Your identity in Under Hollow Hills is also defined in relation to something; the seasons. When it is Summer you are expected to have one presentation and set of pronouns; that presentation and pronouns may differ in Winter. This means that the role that you provide is much more constant than anything so easily changed as gender. Since your role is more permanent, this also means that character progression isn’t really expected in Under Hollow Hills; rather, the community that you participate in (the circus) is designed to grow and change. Under Hollow Hills creates subtle connections between players that encourages them to play with power, vulnerability, and identity, and I think that’s really beautiful.
Mutants in the Night, by Orion D Black.
It's the year 2044.
Mutants have been struggling to survive since humanity divided in two, 10 years ago. They now live in Mutant Safe Zones; rundown slums and ghettos surrounded by mighty walls, to placate humanity's fear of the unknown.
The law stands against them. Enforcers stand above them. Opportunity stands before them.
Mutants are such a poignant metaphor for all kinds of marginalization. On top of that, the Crew aspect of Forged in the Dark games give your characters a reason to work together, as well as a common goal, which is why I think they work so well at giving you a community that you can care for.
I’m also interested in games that ask questions about community in a world that is not perfect - just like in Dream Askew, the characters of Mutants in the Night live in a world that at best, does not care about them, and at worst, desires to harm them. If you want a game that provides no easy answers and overwhelming odds, you might be interested in Mutants in the Night.
Dungeon Bitches, by Dungeon Bitches.
In Dungeon Bitches, the world is harsh and cold. “Polite” society has left you with no place, so you’ve struck out to find one of your own. Out into the dark cracks and forgotten margins. It’s not an easy life, but at least it won’t be a lonely one.
Dungeon Bitches is a game about queer women banding together. It’s about trauma. It’s about community. It’s about pain. It’s about survival. But most of all, it’s very gay.
This is a PbtA game that provides randomly-generated dungeons meant to freak out and push your Bitches to their limit, and therefore also push them closer together, demanding that they figure out how to talk to each-other and work together if they’re going to survive. This is a game about community forged in hardship, with plenty of ways to explore intimacy, whether that be sexual or non-sexual.
The creators of this game have a number of supplements to allow you to play the game in various settings, including Death Spiral (dieselpunk body-horror), Crooked Mile (90’s grunge), and The Wounded, Hungry & Forgotten (monsters).
Moonlight on Roseville Beach, by R. Rook Studio.
Queer pulp meets cosmic horror! It's 1979, and you're spending the summer working in Roseville Beach, the queerest little town on Rose Island. You might have come here looking for an escape, some fun, a little extra money, or even love, but now people are seeing phantasms, strange animals—and stranger old gods—wander the woods, mysterious monoliths appear randomly, and that strange music is coming from somewhere.
As a setting, Roseville Beach is a queer community on a small island, and because it’s a queer community, it’s kind of ignored by law enforcement. This means that your characters are the ones responsible for investigating the strange things happening around the community, as well as protecting their family and neighbours from whatever is lurking out there.
Characters are built from tropes, with customizable backgrounds that take the form of pick lists (and I love a good pick list). Each character also has their own specific problem, like the the Scandalous’ scandal, or the troubles associated with being a Shifter. Your session zero is also expected to be rather generative, with special strange events set up for each character that also give you a skill or ability. If you like pulp stories and tensions that are specific to the community you live in, you’ll want to check out Moonlight on Roseville Beach.
You can pick this game up as part of the TTRPGs for Palestine Bundle!
Also…
Of course, I’m also going to drop a quick plug for my game, Protect the Child, which is full of metaphors about queerness and found family. I've been ruminating on themes like marginalization, parenthood, and children's rights for this one, and so far the play-testing has had some really positive feedback! (Rules update coming out later this month!)
You might also be interested in some of the submissions to the Hot Mutant Summer Jam that ran last month!

time for a jamie and co LORE POST!!!! here's them with their (immediate) families. all the actual lore and such below
JAMIE: only child with a single mom. since furries in this universe can only have kids within their taxonomic families, adoption is really common among smaller families like prionodontidae. however jamie's mom erica really wanted a bio kid, so she ended up marrying another linsang who she liked... well enough, but not that much. they get divorced when jamie's a little kid. she had jamie at an older age; by the time he's in college her markings have already started greying, which is why she looks a little dull next to him. nowadays she works as a teacher and she loves her son vewy much :3
SANTIAGO: santiago is the only one in the main cast with different species parents. cross-species kids are just the species of either parent with a 50/50 chance cus i don't feel like dealing with hybrids... HOWEVER sometimes genetic fuckshit happens. because of said genetic fuckshit, santiago grew to a cow size instead of a sheep size. i couldn't fit all the family relations shit on the actual image but emilio is santiago's OLDER brother (hes 25) but people always assume hes younger because santiago is a giant. magnolia and amapola are twins and both 8. mariana is either a teacher or a librarian (haven't figured it out yet) but she used to paint when she had more free time which is how santiago got interested in painting and eventually went into fine arts. jorge is a plumber and emilio is a graphic designer. santiago is the first in the family to leave their hometown (key west) for a degree (emilio went to a local college) and his mom + sisters were SOOOOOOOOOO SAD so he comes home to visit as often as he can. also since he is in family bovidae he has several cousins/aunts and uncles/etc that are different species. all i know for sure is that one of them lives near jamie and co's college and is some sort of antelope (leaning towards bongo bc i like them). also using this poast to announce that i changed santiagos outfit here is his new cute flowers and bees sweater look
Tumblr media
JOHNNY: her family works on a chicken (and other assorted birds) farm, the chickens are for both eggs and meat while the other birds are just for eggs. this is actually a common set-up in the dorian furryverse, it's hard to farm livestock as a carnivore (because all the livestock are deathly afraid of you) so herbivores usually do the job even if they can't actually eat what they farm. johnny's parents are sorta "confused but got the spirit" about her being a butch lesbian. jimmy is an ass about it but he gets better. shoutout to this horse color calculator for helping me figure out which coat colors were plausible for them
NULL: null has an older brother and does not talk to their parents. sakichi is six years older than null and they were never very close; their parents treated sakichi as the "successful" child and null as the "problem" child. they're also quite conservative. null realized they were agender in high school but stayed closeted at home, they planned to come out to their parents immediately once they got to college and were able to support themselves. something happens that instead makes them come out a few days after their graduation and they get kicked out. null doesn't know where to go and ends up living at johnny's farm for the summer before college (sakichi lives far away doing some tech job and so can't take them in). the clantons are basically null's family at this point. once null legally changes their name they remove their last name entirely (it probably says X on their documents just cus there has to be SOMETHING there). sakichi and null see each other very occasionally, and sakichi still talks to their parents, but only when absolutely necessary. it's not malicious, he'd just feel too guilty cutting himself off from them completely
ARGYLE: argyle is an only child with well-off parents, his mom is a lawyer and his dad is a quirky ancient history professor. his parents are like EXTREMELY doting so they were secretly kinda glad that he came back home so they could see him more often. argyle was really scared that they would hate him for going into a less stable field, but his parents love him to death and are ready to support him in whatever. suzanne was probably a nightmare at pta meetings i'll be so real

Swordswoman Showdown Round 2 Part 2
Adora (She Ra and the Princesses of Power) vs Red (Transistor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Better here in a "preferred character" sense, not "who would win in a fight")
Propaganda below cut
Adora
She has a big magical sword for her magical destiny that gives her a magical girl transformation, I love my girl and I love her awesome sword;
Okay TECHNICALLY she is a multi-weapon user since her sword transforms but its usually a sword. Also it is magic and gives her the power to turn into an 8ft magical girl <3; Lesbian magical girl who in addition to being a literal lesbian in canon is also a parable for being queer and breaking free of religious indoctrination <3 She just kicks all the ass okay I love her I'm only on S2 I'm sure someone else who's watched the whole thing will submit her with better propaganda
FOR THE HONOR OF GRAY SKULL *cool music plays, she's got a transformation* and now she's a legendary warrior that defeats the bad guys!!!
Giant technological sword gives adora magic powers and can turn into anything she needs while being She-ra
she is a HUGE sword nerd. her introduction basically has her info-dumping on rare swords and being adorable. also a little pathetic but she’s trying her best and she deserves the world (and also a win)
Has a magical sword that gives her magic powers; Has a magical sword that gives her magic powers
Red
Has a sword that is also the key to her reality’s code, can use it to command the robots that maintain reality. Uses it to stop time and defeat her enemies in the meanwhile. Small woman, hugeass sword. Manages to defeat the original owner of the Transistor in a one on one reality warping sword duel. The sword contains the echoes of the people it’s slain, and also her dead boyfriend; She is full of so much righteous anger I love her. Carve a path through the city girl. A singer whose voice was stolen.
#RED SWEEP#girl saw her boyfriend die and lost her voice#but picked herself up. ripped her own expensive dress and swore vengeance upon the powerful elite that ruined her life

So
The symbolism in TAOS is Evanna as the Sun and Chiara as the moon. Their depictions show it like that as well, with Chiara having a black-and-white type of colour pallette (hair and body) and Evanna having warmer tones. So could it be that Akita has Earth symbolism? The Earthy skintone and blue eyes represent land and sea ig, and the earlier parts of the story could be a solar eclipse with Chiara preventing Evanna from litening to Akita, and the later half is a lunar eclipse with Akita overahadowing Chiara.
I think that's interesting. Also another thing I noticed is the personality and how they celesrial bodies. Evanna is warm but fly too close and she's destrictive as well (though accidentally in TWTSTW) and Chiara is like the 'pale moon light that illuminates, but does not warm' (in the words of Moon Knight heheh). Akita represents how Earth is represented by the will to live, of not just humans but everything that has life.
Really fricken cool i love taos so much<3
Whoa, this is so cool and it made me so happy to see this!
I don't think I was consciously thinking of Akita as having Earth symbolism, but honestly I love that interpretation, and it makes total sense! Because ultimately, the key idea with Akita is that she represents humanity and human civilization at its best—and so she's very connected to Earth and its people, as opposed to Evanna and Chiara who metaphorically distance themselves, like how the sun and moon are farther from Earth!
And if we consider that aspect of it, it's noteworthy how the moon is much closer to Earth than the sun is, which nicely underscores how Evanna actually detaches more naturally than Chiara does—after all, Chiara was only able to become this detached after decades of traumatizing isolation, but she got Evanna to become a callous conqueror in mere months. Though I won't claim to have planned that, just like I can't claim to have planned the Earth symbolism for Akita.
Honestly, you've given me a lot to think about here; I really like your way of looking at the story! Thank you so much for reading and for sharing your thoughts—and I'll definitely keep these ideas in mind when working on the comic adaptation ❤️‍🔥
For anyone seeing this post and wondering what in the heck I'm talking about, The Ascension of Evanna Schwarzschild (TAOES) is a story I've written about lesbian giants with laser powers! If you check it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts :D

would ada wong kill me if i gave her a big giant lesbian hug and kiss
Uh well if you didn't get consent first she wouldn't kill you instantly but you'd suddenly notice your wallet and keys and hopes for your future are missing and when you get home the FBI is waiting to arrest you for atrocities you didn't commit and also your childhood diary is now mass published at the local bookstore. If you got consent first tho she'd just zip away really quick after and only see you from the sidelines, sometimes running into you if she can rationalise a good enough excuse to see you in person without revealing her emotions

Florida!HTTYD Book AU
(specifically Florida Panhandle! AU)
Like Hiccup, I too grew up around an archipelago of islands full of venomous and dangerous reptiles! (Had a couple of close calls too!) I went kayaking, boating, hiking, fishing, you name it! Unfortunately, growing up in Florida meant I had to deal with Floridians. So, again, like Hiccup, I ran into lots of...characters.
This idea started off from me making a joke to my brother about how Madguts would be a Trump supporter and drive a Ford ages ago. Then it all went downhill from there. (Honestly, I could write a whole post on Florida!Madguts alone.) Someone in the reblogs of one of my posts also wished for it. This one goes to y’all.
Incoming cursed-as-hell long-ish post:
Main Characters:
Hiccup - from a military family, can't go in the military because he can't pass any of the boot camps, works with his friend Fishlegs, obsessed with Marine Biology, scored 6s on the FCAT every year,
Fishlegs - Works at Publix, Wafflehouse, Coram's, Whataburger, etc., almost dies regularly from horse and yellow fly bites,
Stoick - giant, fat beach dad vibes, retired vet, always wears a big polo or Ron Jon Surf Shack Shirts with polarized sunglasses on, boomer Facebook profile, Corona beers, Margaritaville, drives a pontoon called the Fat Penguin, sold his old sail boat the Peregrine Falcon to Humungous Hotshot,
Tumblr media
Baggybum - Marines, never takes off his raybans, goes hunting constantly, camo jackets, guns guns guns, Bass Pro Shop
(Basically, Stoick loves saltwater and Baggy loves freshwater)
Snotlout - Military brat, sports scholarships, ROTC, loves the beach, riding four-wheelers and going mudding,
Bertha - school bus driver, ROLL TIDE, "You might be a redneck if...", Basically just Nanny-Maw, “plaid shirts with the sleeves ripped off” lesbian vibes, Blue Ribbon or Busch beer I can’t decide
Camicazi - loves the mud, always doing dangerous stunts on whatever motorized equipment she can get her hands on, constantly catching frogs/possums/snakes and brings them inside
Others:
Madguts - definitely wears a MAGA hat, drives a Full-Size Heavy-Duty 2022 Super Duty F-450 King Ranch® Pickup (tailgates EVERYONE), spits tobacco, hot boxes his trailer on a regular basis, runs a crime ring in the boondocks(drugs, dog fights, or simply selling stolen goods), divorced 4 times, Rob Zombie, meth, breeds Pitbulls,
Gumboil - also spits tobacco, Malboros, always rides shotgun with Madguts in his Full-Size Heavy-Duty 2022 Super Duty F-450 King Ranch® Pickup, Alabama Crimson Tide merch, has like 14 trucks he swears he's gonna sell and turn around in his yard, always speaks in inappropriate countryisms
Tumblr media
Needless to say, but they're both huge gun enthusiasts and drink Bud.
Thuggory - listens to Butt Rock and Pop Country, Y'all Means All, camo and plaid long sleeves, well fitted Levi's, does everything with his Dad
Humungous Hotshot - Lives on the Peregrine Falcon, “#saltlife”, hooked on fishing, Hooters, sandles with socks underneath, Hawaiian shirts, GOLF, Panama Jack,
Tantrum - not even from Florida, prefers to be in the Keys, comes up to the Panhandle with Humungous so he can see his friends, "#beachbabe", This Video, Ed Hardy
Gobber the Belch - Thunderbeach, drives Harley’s, drives to Alabama to buy illegal fireworks, scary Wafflehouse chef, also Snotlout and Hiccup’s football coach/history teacher

There may not be a dance soiree, but there is hateration and holleration:
THE JETTY (2024): Exasperating new BBC miniseries, created by Cat Jones and directed by Marialy Rivas, about a detective constable named Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman), raising her teenage daughter Hannah (Ruby Stokes) in the small Lancashire town where she grew up, where everyone knows her and no one takes her very seriously. When Ember realizes that a recent arson might be connected to the past disappearance of a girl named Amy (Bo Bragason), who went missing when she and Ember were teenagers, Ember tries to reopen the case, and butts heads with a crusading true crime podcaster (Weruche Opia), who's also interested in the story and has information about it that she won't share. Ember also realizes Amy's disappearance may have something to do with her daughter's now-dead father, who got Ember pregnant when she was only 17. The story alternates between engaging if uncomfortable drama (like an ongoing flashback sequence about Amy's manipulative flirtation with her friend Kitty (Laura Marcus), who was shyly in love with her despite Amy using her as cover for her secret affair with a shitty older man) and a boatload of stupid pseudo-true-crime white libfem copaganda. It's hampered at every turn by Coleman, who's not nearly as good an actor as some of her costars and seems completely out of her depth playing a cop in what wants to be a socially conscious procedural. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Yes, and if the story had focused more on Amy and Kitty, it might have made its points without all the copaganda horseshit. VERDICT: Some of the segments not centering Coleman are compelling, but Coleman is awful, and the script's fundamentally reactionary mindset and its preoccupation with imputing carceral solutions to misogyny are both clumsy and distasteful (not least because Jones uses one of the story's only Black characters as a rhetorical prop). CWs apply for grooming and sexual violence.
THE LITTLE GIANT (1933): Edward G. Robinson branched out into gangster comedy with this comedy of manners about a notorious Chicago bootlegger, one Jim "Bugs" Ahearn, who decides to retire to Palm Springs with his most loyal stooge (Russell Hopton), where he crashes polite society and falls for ostensibly respectable society dame Polly Cass (Helen Vinson). Meanwhile, Bugs' new housekeeper/girl Friday Ruth Wayburn (Mary Astor), a bankrupt heiress whose family home Bugs has just bought, plays Cyrano de Bergerac while trying to bite her tongue about Polly, whose family is nearly as crooked as Bugs. Not nearly as silly or chaotic as Robinson's later turn in the conceptually similar A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER, and its pre-Code indulgences are pretty modest, but it's an enjoyable romp with some amusing social satire. I ended up wishing the script had made more of the relationship between Bugs and Ruth, although Astor is great as always and her rapport with Robinson is one of the film's best features. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No, although Robinson does use the f-slur at one point. VERDICT: Enjoyable, but not as essential as the sillier A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER.
MATINEE (1993): Delightful comedy about a shlock movie impresario named Lawrence Woolsey (John Goodman) — an obvious pastiche of real-life producer/promoter William Castle — who pulls out all the stops for the premiere of his new Grade-Z sci-fi/horror epic, MANT, at a movie theater in Key West, Florida, during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, setting into motion all manner of chaos. As with the tonally similar A CHRISTMAS STORY, MATINEE is sort of notionally a kids' movie, about two friends (Simon Fenton and Omri Katz) who have each managed to score a date with a cute classmate: horny good girl Sherry (Kellie Martin, who at this age could have plausibly played Sara Michelle Gellar's younger sister) and budding leftist Sandra (Lisa Jakub), who begins to movie by getting herself suspended for protesting that bomb drills would be useless in an actual atomic attack. However, the movie is really aimed as much as adults who nostalgically remember that age (and/or era), and it's an affectionate, in-joke-laden homage to a now mostly vanished genre of cheesy cinematic nonsense (embodied in the clips we see from the MANT film-within-a-film, which are very funny). Goodman is wonderful, as is Cathy Moriarty as his weary girlfriend/star. Robert Picardo pops up in a supporting role as the hysterical theater owner, who's built a bomb shelter in the basement because he's convinced the world is about to end. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Nah. VERDICT: Great fun.

*blinks at u with my wide autistic eyes* idk what space rocks is but id love to hear about it :3
:]
Okay, so, Space Rocks is a story that follows four strangers, who randomly wake up on an alien spaceship and are told that they are the Chosen Ones & they have to save the Universe from the Big Bad. They are also given these specialized rocks that allow them to have Abilities. And despite being strangers, the Chosen Ones are forced to work together in order to save the Universe.
And it takes place in Space and there's Aliens and Stuff :]
The concept and some story plots points come from a really old Discord Text Roleplay I participated in with a few friends in 2020.
Some key characters of Space Rocks.
Of course, you have the Chosen Ones
—Mia Knight Moreno - she/her. Aroace. 16 at the beginning of the story. She is the holder for the Yellow Star (Rock), which gives her the ability to tell when someone is lying. And when she gets a strong enough connection with the Yellow Star, then she'll be able force people to tell the truth. Mia is the leader of the Chosen Ones Team as well as the tank, using a claymore when she's in battle.
—Sid "Harvest" - he/him. Unlabeled. 16 at the beginning of the story. He is the holder of the Orange Square (Rock), which gives him the ability to influence the emotions of those around him. And when Harvest gets a strong enough connection with the Orange Square, he'll be able to influence people's actions. Harvest is the ranger of the Chosen Ones Team and his primary weapon is the slingshot.
—Angel del Roserio - he/him, she/her, xy/xyr. Genderflux, nblm. 17 at the beginning of the story. Xy is the holder of the Purple Heart (Rock), which gives xyr the ability hallucinate their greatest fear. And when Angel gains a strong enough connection with the Purple Heart, xy will be able to give people Nightmares that will last for about two or three days. Angel is the damager of the Chosen Ones Team and uses a battle axe when xy is in battle
—Donnie "Don" Choi - he/him, any neopronouns. Transmasculine, achilean, demisexual. 17 at the beginning of the story Don is the holder of the Green Tear (Rock), which will allow him heal others. And when he gains a strong enough connection with the Green Tear, he will be able to grow/control plants. Don is the healer of the Chosen Ones Team and his weapon for choice is a bill.
Also, all of the Chosen Ones are autistic. And none of them were told about the Space Rocks had abilities.
And then you have the supporting and recurring characters
—(Not So Human) Leader - any pronouns but people default to he/him. Genderless, trixic. Ageless, have been awake for 60~ years but have been around for 100+ years (NSH) Leader, as their name suggests, they are the leader of the (Not So Human) Species. The (Not So Human) People Species and the Space Rocks was created by the Galaxies to keep the Universe from being destroyed. When the Universe is at Peace, the (Not So Human) Species are in a deep, dreamless sleep & the Space Rocks are depowered and when the Galaxies feel the Universe is in danger the (Not So Human) Species are awake & the Space Rocks are powered. That being said, the (Not So Human) People do have free will and some of them will just go off and do their own thing, and not get involved with Universe Stuff. The Space Rocks can also be used for not good reasons as well.
—(Not So Human) Second-In-Command - he/him. Straight. Ageless, have been awake for 90~ years, but have been around for 150+ years. As his name suggests, he is the second-in-command of the (Not So Human) People Species.
—Mækœ - she/her. Lesbian, Girlbug. 18 when the Chosen Ones Team meet her Mæall (a planet that just has one huge, giant mall one it) Mækœ is one of the allies of the Chosen Ones. Occasionally joining the Chosen Ones on missions and stuff. She is an alien that has aquatic bug-like and angler fish-like features. Mækœ is dating Lœvessa.
—Lœvessa - she/her. Bisexual. 18 when the Chosen Ones Team meet her at Mæall. Lœvessa is one of the allies of the Chosen Ones. Like, Mækœ, she occasionally joins the Chosen Ones on missions and stuff. She is an alien that has bug-like features. She and Mækœ are girlfriends :]
And then you have the Big Bad and the people that work for her.
—The Big Bad - she/her. Sapphic. 200 years old. The main villain of the story. She's evil and cunning, and she is certainly not above murder.
—Wicked Scientist - she/her, they/them. Sapphic. 38 years old. The Big Bad's personal scientist. She's a fairly recent addition, she's only really been working for the Big Bad for about five years. That being said, she willing joined The Big Bad's side and has no morals. The Big Bad and Wicked Scientist have some sort of cannibalistic love story going on in the background.
—Kókei Aun - he/him. Bisexual. 17 years old when he introduced to the story. Head Commander of Mission Section 65-X. Mission Section 65-X is a decently large group of people going after the Chosen Ones. And Kókei had recently been appointed as the Head Commander of it by the Big Bad herself. Not a Chosen One, but does own the Brown Reverse Teardrop (Rock), which gives him the ability to see in infrared. And if Kókei manages gets a strong enough connection with the Brown Reverse Teardrop, he'll gain the ability of directly tracking people (as long as he and the person he's looking for are on the same planet or spaceship)
~~~
The story is kinda all over the place and under developed at the moment? Just know at some point the Chosen Ones will get a pet alien hamster thing.
~~~
If I were to ever manage to create the Space Rocks comic, then I'll be primarily tackling the themes of Found Family, Good vs Evil, Trust, and Purpose. As well as themes of Queerness.

My thots on RV Birthday:
- tbh I think the best Red Velvet song using a classical music sound is Marionette, then Feel My Rhythm, then this song. I like the trend in general so it's still good but.. yeah.
- The prechorus had an 80's sound so I was expecting that in the chorus (something like Blackpink's Lovesick Girls or Twice's Can't Stop Me) so the first time I heard it I felt let down. It took me another listen to appreciate it for what it actually was.
- I feel like they tried to do an updated take on Ice Cream Cake. Especially the chorus. That's the song that got me into them so I enjoyed the callback and the giant kitty! The chorus also feels very 2nd gen to me?
- Why in the year 2022 are they really making Seulgi say the word swag?? SM will never stop using slang they shouldn't (especially shawty).
- Their outfits feel too.. young? It feels like something Itzy would wear or something.. I also generally dislike a lot of camo print. My favorite of their outfits are the black with the sprinkle-looking trim because that's on theme.
- Did Wendy skin Key's little monster guy from the Gasoline cover to make her jacket? lol I actually like it tho. Muppet chic 💖
- Seulgi and Yeri have such cute hairstyles! All of them do but those 2 especially!
- Irene's makeup with the gems doesn't look right. The gems match her skin tone too much and just looks like texture? Don't do that to our original visual :(
- The sets were not as birthday-ish as I was expecting :(
-The animated part was wild and cool!
- I'm obsessed with how their image has gone from being a bubble-gum death cult, to a man-eating lesbian cult, to whatever kind of cult this, Feel My Rhythm, and Zimzallabim is. Obsessed.

ACON's founding CEO Bill Whittaker AM has died
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/acons-founding-ceo-bill-whittaker-am-has-died/
ACON's founding CEO Bill Whittaker AM has died
Tumblr media
Bill Whittaker AM, a lifelong activist and community leader, the first CEO of the AIDS Council of NSW (now known as ACON) and an early Mardi Gras festival president, has died, bringing to a close decades of service to the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW, Australia and beyond.
“It is with great sadness that ACON notes the passing of Bill Whittaker – ACON’s first CEO and a giant in Australia’s HIV response,” ACON’s outgoing CEO Nicolas Parkhill announced in a statement earlier today.
”Whittaker was one of the key architects of Australia’s response to HIV/AIDS who worked in HIV community development, policy and strategy locally and internationally for nearly 40 years.
”He was also a prominent, passionate and pioneering gay activist who worked tirelessly to promote the health and human rights of LGBTQ communities.
”Bill began his activism as a volunteer and then President of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, where he acted to strengthen the organisation’s role in fighting for gay and lesbian rights and countering homophobia.
“He was President of Mardi Gras at the height of the AIDS crisis in Australia in the mid-1980s, which saw unrelenting attacks on LGBTQ communities and on the Mardi Gras itself.
”It was during this time that Bill forged links with other activists like Lex Watson and Don Baxter, to help build the LGBTQ response to AIDS.
”In 1986, Bill became the first CEO of the AIDS Council of NSW or what we know today as ACON.
”Under his tenure, the organisation was built from a staff of three to a staff of over 70 and played a pivotal role in shaping both the NSW HIV response and the national response.
”Bill led the reform of Australia’s clinical trial system, helped get people with HIV early access to the first HIV treatments and led the development of internationally recognised AIDS information campaigns.
“During this time he also helped develop Australia’s first National HIV/AIDS Strategy, which set the foundations for Australia’s successful HIV responses over three decades.
”After leaving ACON in 1990, Bill then spent the next two decades working in a variety of community-based AIDS organisations.
”During these years Bill held various positions including founding Chair of the National Association of People with HIV/AIDS, President of Positive Life NSW and National President of the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations.
“Bill also worked extensively on the global fight against HIV. In the 1980s and 1990s, he joined other activists to help start building an international community-based HIV advocacy movement.
”Bill participated in the United Nations Special Sessions on HIV in 2001, 2006 and 2011. He was a commissioner with the UNAIDS High Level Commission on HIV Prevention and a special representative of the National Association of People with HIV (Australia) and a Board member of Pacific Friends of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.
”Later, Bill led NSW Government’s 2012 HIV Strategy Implementation Committee, which heralded a new and transformative approach to HIV prevention and treatment.
“The advancements and progress we are seeing now in the HIV landscape can be attributable to the foundations laid by people like Bill. His contributions to Australia’s HIV response are truly nothing short of remarkable.
“Bill was a fearless, devoted, brave and bold advocate. His work has improved the lives of tens of thousands of people here in Australia and around the world. He will be dearly missed, but never, ever, forgotten.”
Whittaker received the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to community health through HIV/AIDS organisations in 1992, becoming one of the first openly LGBTQIA+ Australians to receive that honour.
