alright pals, it's time for some rhaenicent fic recs, as asked for by literally 10s of you. here are nearly 500k words of things that have made me kick my heels with joy.

you don't know what love is (if you don't put up a fight) by tansymeadows. 144k, E. technically not finished, but the first 14 chapters feel like a complete story. rhaenyra returns just in time for viserys' death, alicent doesn't back aegon and instead rhaenyra is crowned queen. visenya lives, daemon takes his leave, and rhaenyra courts the dowager queen through the process of succession. the slowest slow burn to ever burn. there is so much plot, a whole-ass war, and they're so ridiculously in love. this fic is why it took me so long to finish compiling this list, because i sat and reread every single delicious word, because it circles back and forth all over their history in a way that just askjdhas. i've read this twice now and even just flipping through it to write this up is trying to suck me back in.

i dwell in possibility by ladybundle / @ladybundle. 29k (2 part series). viserys doesn't die and rhaenyra returns to king's landing. visenya lives, aegon dies, and alicent in this is the most tortured lesbian while they mend their relationship. i really dig the whole vibe of the writing in this, which feels very in character, if that makes sense for the vibe of a fic rather than just a character. the second fic is the origin of the 'alicent hightower's belated sexual awakening' tag i started using, which is a category of fics that i enjoy very, very much.

you'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream by rosiep8801/ @rosehathaways-sidepiece. 12k, M. another one where viserys doesn't die and rhaenyra returns to king's landing, this time one in which they wholeheartedly and rabidly throw themselves into sorting their shit out, as they share a bed over and over each night as they battle through their issues. this one has my favourite iteration of the traditional alicent hightower learns of the female orgasm scene.

cleopatra by dontaskmedude. 52k, E. this one appears on every rec list i've ever seen, and rightfully so. kicks off with the weirwood scene in 104, and runs from there, a lovely alternate reality where alicent/rhaenyra/laenor/joffrey live the next 20-odd years in relative peace. this one smashes me in the feelings.

where fire and ice meet by wariangle. 41k, 4 part series, E. pre-series through to rhaenyra's ascension, everything's the same except she refuses to marry or have children. it's okay though, because she has a plan. i am deeply obsessed with "and they were two queens through machinations" fic. alicent in this is my actual fave, she's so spiky; the final fic in the series, although actually deeply sad, has a premise that makes me howl with laughter because obviously alicent hightower, lesbian with a wife for 20 years, would also be a massive homophobe.

not on the last day by revans_mask. 48k, E. alicent goes with otto to meet with rhaenyra and offer terms, and while she's there she slips rhaenyra a message. there are a couple of beats in this that are so romantic i clutched at my chest.

keep the promise in your mouth by iwantthemtostay / @iwantthemtostay. 87k, E. technically not finished, but only missing an epilogue. the closest thing to AU on this list; rhaenyra is barren, alicent has four daughters, and when viserys dies while rhaenyra is away from westeros, daemon takes the crown. when she returns, he forces alicent and rhaenyra to marry each other for reasons. as the summary says, they make the best of it. this fic makes me insane, it's so dreamy.

ride the dragon (do it quickly) by molter / @molter-writes. 36k, unrated. in the free real estate between 106 and 107, viserys sends rhaenyra and alicent to do some politicking in the north. alicent cannot stand the cold, so what is rhaenyra to do but share her bed to keep her warm. alicent is so angry about it.

thine is the queendom by liadrell / @lesbianalicent. 11k, M. the only non-ship fic on this list. an alicent character piece set in the free real estate between 105 and 106, and deal with the absolutely batshit fact that alicent was pregnant with daeron at the same time rhaenyra was pregnant with jace in a way that made me sad as fuck tbqh.

daughters of the dragon by DMCMercy. 14k, M. the kiddos patch things up with alicent's first pregnancy, kicking off what is not at all secretly one of my favourite categories of early canon divergence: alicent's other husband rhaenyra.

5) God au-

born as the god of luck and fortune chuuya is stolen by humans and placed in a shrine to bring insane luck to the earth. then shit hits the fan. Now hes stuck as the god of curses (and bad luck) and cant walk around without hell breaking loose

6) Plant shop au-

Chuuya nakahara ends up at a police station at 14 and meets murase (as well as some other cops). Chuuya is going to be given a death sentence but after some less than legal talk with his supervisors murase can remove it completely. the only condition is rehabilitating chuuya back into society, which proves a harder task than thought considering a few extra issues that went down in his past.

7) College(idol) au-

At 15 chuuya nakahara is the lead of a world famous pop idol group. Shifty treatment from his manager makes chuuya decide to quit, however on while preforming his last show something technical goes wrong, the stage explodes, the other members got away safe but chuuya was hospitalised. the world assumes him dead and since he contract is over he decides to keep it that way, content with living his life like a normal person now. until hes in collage and it turns out his new roomate was the biggest fan of him and his old group. chaos ensues

8) Sky casino chuuya au-

After hardly a year in the sheep chuuya is found by fyodor and placed inside the sky casino for safe keeping. now at 16 hes very good at his job and very bad at being tollerant of annoying house guests from the port mafia

9) DOA au-

15 goes wrong, chuuya gets hit a lot harder by the sheep and he ends up at fyodors doorstep (through less than natural circumstances). hes been working for the doa since. Dazai and him re-meet at 22 after hes captured by the port mafia. it goes intrestingly.

10) Scene kid au- a fun au where everyone in the show wears some kind of alt fashion (also theres like the worlds impending and quickeningly near end looming over everyone but that doesnt matter)

11) God+Vampire slayer au-

Chuuya is the (born human) reincarnatation of the god/lord of the wild in an era where vampire-like zombies run wild. he meets a boy who turned into a vampire but somehow remained concious and is now working with him and a shifty doctor to blast gore everywhere try and find a cure

when chuuya joins the port mafia hes placed under lippmanns command instead of kouyou's. unfortunatly its not that easy and the port mafia's fronting as a circus. now chuuyas got to learn how to use rope.

21) Elise au-

On his deathbed mori manages to transfer his ability to chuuya. hes now living through elise. it goes as well as you'd expect now the mafias being run by an 11 year old

22) Chuuya stays with the sheep au-

self explanitory, dazai's plan fails and chuuya never ends up leaving the sheep. then 15 rolls around and verlaine disposes of them. chuuya travels around with verlaine until hes eventually rescued by the flags

23) Ada au-

chuuya moves to the ada after stormbringer. he works with yosano in the infirmary.

24) Demon/Coffee shop au-

Ex-fighting ring demon chuuya runs a coffee shop and tries to be evil (hes bad at it)

25) Chuuya is inside my laptop au-

Dazai finds a beat up laptop on the floor one day and being the cheap person he is decides to take it. the only issue is theres someone (something?) living inside it (its chuuya)

26) Dragon au-

Chuuya nakahara is one of the last dragons of his kind. dazai wants a pet dog but gets something more exotic instead

27) Nyan bungou stray nekos au- nyan neko sugar girls but bsd derailed and i dont know how to explain this now

I like to think about the Goldenheart boys got together because as we know they've known each other since they were little

I imagine for the movie boys it followed the classic "This is my best friend. I have a massive crush on him but we are just gonna ~ignore that~ because I kinda have to be perfect because Legacy of Gloreth/I have been on thin fucking ice when I showed up" story

And they grew up and those feelings didn't go away, they just ignored them. They both dated other people as teens (Ambrosius dated a squire girl, Bal dated some ruffian from his hometown) but neither relationship lasted more than a few months. Then at like, 18/19 they were so damn whipped and infatuated with each other that it just kinda happened all at once. Ambrosius approached Bal absolutely terrified because if this doesn't work out he is going to lose his Best Friend his World his Everything, but of course, it immediately does. I hc that the Institute and their family/friends knew about them but the media did not. I also hc that they are closer in age than the comic boys, with Bal being just like a year or less older.

The comic boys I picture something funnier. I can imagine Bal getting dumped at the Institute by his dad and this pathetic little blond kid is getting picked on so Bal, full of rage and abandonment, just beats the shit out of the bullies to establish dominance in the social order of these children and also to stop the bullying.

Ambrosius (who is like. 8??) Immediately had the biggest baby crush imaginable and decides that he is going to tether himself to this person until the day he dies. I imagine their age difference is much more than in the movie, like 2.5ish years, so obviously this 10 year old is not interested in the baby following him around but he'll be friends with him because everyone else is scared of him. He protects him and looks out for him and he thinks he's cute in the way that all children see a child like 6 months younger than them as practically an infant.

They're little pals for the rest of their adolescence with Ambrosius not being subtle about his crush and Ballister assuming it will pass because he's just a little kid. It isn't until they're 14/16 that Ballister starts actually respecting Ambrosius and realizing that oh shit. I'm not a little kid anymore and neither is he. They don't actually start dating at any specific point, but around this time they start kissing and lying to themselves that this is a Normal Friend Activity. Around this time also, the fact that they cuddle at night and share a bed is starting to feel a bit more awkward.

They kiss, hold hands, cuddle and share a bed, but are in complete denial that they've got anything more than friendship going on for like 2 years when they sleep together and are like. Well shit. Homies don't do that, do they?

Ambrosius who has been influenced by regressive ideals is sad that they weren't technically "together" when they first slept together and it makes him feel bad about himself. Ballister then makes up a fake anniversary of a couple months prior and gaslights (j) Ambrosius into believing that's when they got together like "nah remember we went out for coffee that one time that was our first date you didn't know that lol"

Ambrosius kinda knows this is a crock of shit but it makes him happy so he goes along with it.

Supernatural season 14

Oh boy!

So Alt-Michael has taken over Dean’s body and absconded to parts unknown - what an unprecedented plot twist who could’ve possibly seen this coming, certainly not Dean, the one guy who doesn’t trust angels and has a history of being short-sighted & making shitty deals.

Since this is season 14, and there’s only 1 more season after this, I presume Dean will never grow out of these bad qualities 🤦🏾‍♀️, so…moving on.

The nerve of Dean to challenge Alt-Kaia to either hand over the weapon or kill her. What if she just killed him? Also, can't they just replicate the weapon for their own uses? All they would need to do is ensure they're using the same materials Kaia did when she forged the weapon in her own world.

How many hits to the head is Sam supposed to fuckin' take? I feel like it's happened more in this season alone than the entire show so far? He should probably be dead at this point 🤣

John returns for the final time to go back to 2003? Okay. His hair is cut and grayish. Lol so I’m gonna see that as John gained some weight (from food/drink or muscle training idc) and dyes his hair black but the root are grey and come out every so often 🤣 but yay JDM I wish you had been in more episodes! b) Bobby X Mary or how Bobby essentially replaced john as the father/husband by getting involved with Mary AND being a surrogate father to Sam & Dean (with a clear preference to Dean but whatever)

I’d care more about Sam & John’s convo if we had more time with them together on screen. But it was nice to see them squash their beef.

Dean & John’s convo was faaaar too brief. But insightful to their relationship. John wanted dean to have a family, echoing his wishes for his eldest in season 1 in his convo w/ Sam.

But Dean was like I have a family 🥺 my emotions!

Back to the Michael bullshit – a fight with a gorgon fucked up his containment so he literally broke out of Dean's body and killed all the hunters who were conveniently at the bunker when they brought an unconscious Dean back there. Even poor unfortunate Maggie. For a second I thought Mary would be there since Maggie mentioned she was on her way back but no, he ended up possessing Rowena.

Then they bring the old angel torture device of disabling our heroes' ability to breathe, like in the season 5 premiere, making them blind (that's new) and making them hurt.

Jack gets his chance to take Michael down, and takes his grace??????

Oh Sam bby, it's not your fault. Those people were doomed no matter what. TBH I'm surprised they lasted this long. But cuz he's a Winchester and he was raised by Dean & they've rubbed off each other too much at this point (nobromo), he decides to focus on yet another case even when Dean himself isn't willing since big bro has pointed out they have done 3 cases back to back. They're not the young men they used to be lol.

Cas goes with Sam to a milkshake town and given his legendary levels of awkwardness he's immediately seen and called out for his inherent queerness by the townsfolk (in all senses of the word).

Aw Sam wants to stay, ofc he does. This town is simple and peaceful. He could use some of that. Too bad this place is making people's heads explode.

Oftentimes since Jack started in this show, he's felt like an intern and 14x16 is one of those times. They don't wanna bring jack along so they think to leave him alone doing chores. Good Lord.

Oh honey Sam you didn't have to tell the sheriff you're not FBI, just stick to the monster stuff. He knows what's up.

And Jack sweetie pie you don't need to impress those kids. He should be hanging out with kids his own age. Just Jack with a bunch of babies 🤣. So cute! My headcanon is that he can actually talk to them. At least then it wouldn't have ended with a stabbing. Thankfully he cleaned up his mess, even though the local kids are terrified of him. It’s a shame he doesn’t have friends. If only he was allowed to have Claire in his life.

They finally resolved the Nick storyline (I hope) by killing him off via Jack but Mary is not happy. She’s concerned. She’s been concerned about him the whole frickin episode since he sassed her as they tried setting up a game night with Dean.

It’s like these people keep forgetting what Jack is capable of.

He didn’t have to relish the kill though. On the other hand, it felt like Mary’s concern was a bit much — if it were me I would’ve kept my mouth shut as to not upset a powerful fledging being into killing me by accident.

So Mary dies…again.

This is also why we can’t have nice things. I know Dean’s never gonna let this shit go. Sure Cas has fucked up a bunch, but killing a direct blood relative of Dean’s…nope. That’s unforgivable. I know they’re not gonna let Dean kill off a kid but I know he’s NEVER ever gonna forget Jack’s role in Mary’s (second) demise.

Why couldn’t you leave the boy alone Mary?!?!?!!?!

The boys show up, did they not circle back to pick up their mother? Seriously? Goodness Lord. So depressing watching the brothers just assuming their mommy’s coming back 😭

Cas (cuz of course this shit went tits up while Daddy was away) calls Dean to get caught up on what happened the last episode and is concerned that the Winchesters left their mom alone with Jack. Then why did you leave him Cas? You could’ve taken him with you. Like it would’ve been better if one of the brothers was alone with Jack? Badasses they may be, but they would’ve ended up just like Mary let’s be honest. The only difference would’ve been whichever brother got got would’ve come back. Mary will not be getting that special treatment…

Jack is tripping out since he murdered his foster G-maw - ends up flying all over the world (so his soul is definitely gone? But if it were gone, would he even care about killing Mary? everyone’s trying to track him down IDK why he doesn’t just destroy the phone he has. We get flashes of Mary & Jack’s time together and technically I believe she spent the most time with him (at least in season 13)

They’re still giving Mark P work on this show making him the manifestation of Jack’s subconscious cuz the kill is driving Jack insane 😭🥺 He’s reacting so much like a little boy who knows he fucked up it that makes this so much sadder 😭 Jack’s being driven mad with grief.

And God reveals Himself, what grand timing! He says He came for Cas’s prayer (but Cas prayed to Him in season 6 too, no?) but then He states the real reason for His arrival — Jack.

Meanwhile Jack went to see his real G-maw, not a good plan Jackie boy. She’s put 2+2 together that her daughter Kelly is NOT ok and now Jack has to confess the truth. (Where’s the dad? Was the actor unavailable or dead at this point?)

Sam was outed to love Celine Dion (I love her two Sammy it’s ok, her songs are AMAZING! My favorite is it’s all coming back to me now, I crush that shit in karaoke.) It’s just like I said in season 11. God doesn’t owe anyone anything. But everyone owes Him everything. He gave everyone the freedom to choose, for better or worse. But this iteration of who God is seems to watch what people and creatures decide to do with their lives. He made the weapon to see who among Sam, Dean or Cas would take it and strike Jack down.

So ultimately when Dean tracks Jack down and Jack throws Cas into a tombstone and Sam is running dramatically to stop it, Dean ultimately decides not to kill Jack. But why though? He kept talking shit about how Jack needed to be dealt with, but when the moment comes, he won’t do it?! I mean I’m glad but it doesn’t really make sense?!

Was it the puppy eyes? Did Sam teach Jack that trick? But Jack closed his eyes at the last second???

Oh Dean, you’re such a fucking softie. That’s on you God. You made him softer than Mr. Pillsberry.

I will say what makes this story compelling is the fact that the Winchesters find themselves locked in a cycle of violence at the hands of their Creator, and they’re refusing to commit further acts of violence in effort to stop it all and rebel against their cruel, dispassionate maker. But they have no means to back it up…today.

It’s not about the destination though, it’s the journey (I keep telling myself that).

Conflicted Pt: 14 🎀

Izzy P.O.V

Our band received the best selling album label by the time our tour had ended, but our manager scheduled us to perform a gig at the Troubadour for old times sake.

We agreed to it, of course, it was nostalgic for us too, to see how far we had come since the last time we were at the Troubadour.

I was also excited for Maddy to come and see us perform since she’d never seen me play live.

“Izzy do you think your groupies will show up tonight.” she scoffed looking through her pile of clothes, scattered everywhere in the closet.

“Can’t say they won’t but I don’t care about them when I have you.” I cooed pulling her in from behind, so her body was pressed against mine.

She looked into the standing mirror that was in her closet and sighed.

“I wish you would hug me like this in front of them to show them your mine.”

“Baby-

“I know I know, it would ruin your playboy imagine.” she muttered pulling away to bend down at the black dress that was peeking out of the pile.

“You are not wearing that.” I laughed grabbing the flimsy material and throwing it at the top of her shelf.

“I am! If you don’t want us to be seen together then I don’t have to dress like I’m in a relationship.” Maddy retorted fisting her hands at her sides and stomping her foot down.

“I’m not letting you around the guys with this dress.” I told her imagining what would happen if she wore the tiny fabric.

I know Axl would love it.

“You’re not the boss of me.” she said attempting to grab at the shelf with her 5’6 frame.

“If you can grab it. You can wear it…I guess.” I replied rolling my eyes at her persistence to wear the tiny piece of clothing.

Did she have any idea what Axl would do if he saw her in the dress?

All of his self control would go out the door and into Maddy’s panties.

We all arrived an hour late to the gig since Duff got into an argument with Maddy over the tiny black dress and threatened her to change but Maddy didn’t budge so they went at it for another 20 minutes.

I intervened and told Maddy to just wear my jean jacket over it to which Duff agreed and said was a great solution.

“Maddy I better not see you without that jacket at the venue. I’m just trying to protect you from the guys y’know.” Duff sighed, looking at his younger sister who was currently ignoring him at the moment.

“It’s okay man. I’ll look at her.” I said giving Duff a reassuring nod before we all hopped into his car and made our way to the venue.

Slash,Axl and Steven all came together since they lived closer than Duff.

And obviously I didn’t have a place at the moment so I technically lived with Duff.

“I’m so excited to play this gig!” Steven exclaimed twisting his drumsticks in between his fingers and kicking his feet at the table which was provided in the backstage room.

“Same.” Slash replied chugging down the bottle of Jack Daniel while taking a few drags of his cigarette.

I couldn’t tell where he was looking since his shades were completely covering his eyes and his hat hid most of his upper forehead, hiding any expressions.

But I could see him smiling and giggling to Axl about something, and Axl was looking directly towards Maddy.

“Is something the matter guys?” I asked, my tone visibly bitter as I give Axl a stern look.

Axl then turned towards me with the opposite expression of which he displayed just a few seconds ago and raised his eyebrows a bit.

“Why?” he rudely asked smoking his cigarette and blowing the smoke in my face.

“Fuck off with that shit.” I told him, mostly annoyed by the smoke in my face but also wanting him to back off from Maddy who was completely clueless in what was going on.

“You’re not her daddy Izzy. She can do as she pleases.” Axl smirked getting up from the couch to give some stray groupies autographs.

Maddy sat at the floor since we all took up the couch, I had insisted for her to sit on my lap but she said she was more comfortable on the floor at my knees, I didn’t mind since I got to play with her hair while we did interviews.

Which was a big stress reliever.

I loved having her around during press interviews since I hated fucking speaking to them because all they wanted to know was bullshit personal questions instead of the real discussion, which was music.

“Iz. I have to pee.” Maddy whispered getting up slowly so her dress didn’t ride up.

I was still kind of mad at her for wearing the dress but when she stood up the dress straightened out enough for the jean jacket to cover her ass.

“Will you be okay alone baby?” I asked, since she hadn’t been to the Troubadour before, I wanted to make sure she was comfortable because there were always creeps at some of our shows who preyed on the girls that would come.

She softly declined and gave me a peck on the cheek as I snuck in a quick ass grab when she was bended over to which Duff gave me a sour look.

“Sorry man. Your sis is hot.” I shrugged lighting up a cigarette.

“Gross dude! Just do that shit when I’m not around.” Duff frowned.

“BOYS! WE ARE ON IN 10 MINUTES!” our manager yelled repeatedly slapping his wrist with his pointer finger.

“Can you yell any louder.” Slash mumbled slumping down into the couch with his bottle of Jack Daniel’s which was now empty.

“You didn’t save any for me. Fuck you man!” I whined grabbing the empty bottle and throwing it at the floor.

Slash and Steven burst out laughing while our manager came to calm their drunk asses down.

Maddy P.O.V

I swerved through the crowd of people who were starting to gather in clusters backstage.

And weaved my way out, desperately trying to locate the women’s room when I ran into Axl with his arm around some random girl.

“Maddy?” he called out,looking at me rather confused.

“I- I’m looking for the bathroom. Have you seen it?” I asked looking both at him and the girl.

“Yeah. I’ll show you.” he replied shrugging off the girl and walking me towards the restrooms.

“Who was that?” I asked looking at him with curious eyes.

I always heard stories about the groupies and how they played with different bands but it was pretty surreal to see it happen in real life.

“Just some girl who likes our music.” he smirked stopping right besides the door to the women’s room.

He walked me into the back of the wall and put his arm up to lean in front of my body.

“I’d like this dress much better without Izzy’s jacket.” he whispered tugging the jean jacket off one shoulder, leaving my right collarbone exposed.

I was wearing an off the shoulder black dress that stopped right below my ass.

It wasn’t something I would ever wear but I found it when I was cleaning and I figured it was left behind by some groupie so I washed it and wore it to look grown up since all the dresses I brought from home were frilly and floral.

And the girls here dressed so different so when I saw the dress it immediately screamed L.A.

“What if I took it off.” he said, not giving me a chance to think, swiftly pulling the jacket off and onto the floor exposing my figure.

“You look so good. Better than all of the girls here.” he gently murmured placing his pointer finger under my chin to direct my gaze on his eyes instead of his feet.

“Stop it Axl. I’m with Izzy.” I mumbled breathing with how close he was to me.

It was almost uncomfortable knowing he could see all of me, since my jacket wasn’t covering me anymore.

He reached for my thigh and started tracing small circles on it, inching closer towards the end of my dress, tugging it up lightly until he exposed half of my panties which were black to match my dress.

“W-wait stop. I can’t I love-

“Izzy. Yeah I get it.” he huffed letting go of me.

“Maddy?”

“Izzy?” I squinted wondering if it was really him or if I was hallucinating.

“I go to look for you to make sure you’re safe and I find you with him.And my jacket is around your feet?” he hissed grabbing his jacket with such force I almost stumbled on my heels.

“It’s not what it looks like I swear. H-he was just helping me found the restroom Iz!” I cried pushing Axl out of the way and following Izzy like a lost puppy.

“I can’t do this right now. Not when I’m about to preform with him.” he spat walking away from me briskly.

I looked back at Axl who was quiet, almost like he was still processing the situation.

“We can’t be together-

“Why. Why not?” he asked walking up to me with wide eyes.

“I-I can’t answer that.”

Falls in Jackson were serene. Having the sound of crickets and the lights of the town lull you to sleep only to be woken up by families of birds singing was something you could never get tired of. On top of that, your best friend, Ellie’s birthday lies right in the middle of all of this. This year she was turning 17, and you knew you had to get her something special since this was technically her last year as a kid.

You and Ellie met when you both were 14. Ellie and Joel went out on patrol together, where they found you and your older brother, Carl separated from your group on the roads—trying to find a place to stay temporarily before your group finds you guys again.

One week turned into two, then into a month, and eventually… you and Carl had given up on any hopes of your group finding you again, so Jackson eventually became a new home for you.

Ellie didn’t like you at first sight. She thought you were too quiet, as you kept your distance from the people in Jackson. But once you realized that you’d have to accept this place, you also accepted the people that came along with it, including Ellie, eventually.

You couldn’t recall exactly when or how you and Ellie became so close, but soon enough the two of you were inseparable. You grew out of your shyness with the help of Ellie, and you felt more comfortable with the girl.

Even though you were only a few months younger than her, you still looked up to her as if she was some sort of god. Everything she did, or taught you, you kept memorized in the back of your head, even years later. The fact that a girl as cool as her tried so hard to be friends with you, and refused to give up until you opened up to her, absolutely baffled you.

You’d both always talk about your 17th birthdays, anticipating it.

“Y’know, like before the world went to shit—17 was the last year of being a kid. Like when you turn 18 everything changes apparently.” You said to her on your 16th birthday, laying on your back next to the auburn haired girl in her bed.

Ellie was mirroring your position, laying next to you also on her back. She turned to face you, “ ‘S only a year away…” She trailed off. You saw her smile wide out of your peripheral vision, and you also turned to face her. Her smile was contagious, it could brighten the whole damn town of Jackson. You smiled back at her trying to hold her eye contact, but you turned to lay on your back again. You could never hold eye contact with the girl without getting nervous. You never understood why.

“Yeah. Yours too Ellie.” You said looking up at the wall.

Ellie sat up fast, causing you to do the same. “What about…” She trailed off in thought, playing with the sleeves of her grey hoodie. “We celebrate our 17s in a special way. Like we always celebrate our birthdays by watching a movie at my place— which is totally cool. But like, let’s surprise each other or something. I’ll plan something for you and you’ll plan something for me?” She looked up at you, both sides of her lips pulling upwards.

You held out your pinky, “Deal.” You looked at her with a wide smile, because who couldn’t smile at having a best friend as great as Ellie.

She intertwined her pinky with yours and nodded. “Deal.”

So you found yourself here, about a year later for Ellie’s 17th pacing around your room wondering if this is a good idea. You wanted to sneak her out to show her the stars tonight. You stole a telescope that you found one day at patrol which reminded you of Ellie. She always talked about space and planets and stars with you. And to be honest, you weren’t even so interested in that… you just loved watching Ellie talk about the things she liked with you.

You we’re worried about getting caught trying to leave the gates. Maria told you only bad things happen to kids who sneak out, and you didn’t know if it was true or if she was just trying to scare you out of doing it.

I mean, your brother Carl did it once. He said there’s basically no more infected out there. But you’re still preparing yourself for anything tonight. You put on a green sweater over your tank top and grabbed a pocket knife and a pistol and stashed that in the back pocket of your black jeans. You slipped on your boots and decided to sneak out the window, since you didn’t want Carl to be woken up by the squeaking of your old front door.

You jumped a few feet down and started walking across the street to get to Ellies house.

Even though it was midnight, the air was still warm. Lights in the town were still on and there were leaves everywhere, making you have to watch your step.

Five minutes later you stopped yourself in front of Ellie’s house. There was no doubt that the people in Jackson gave her and Joel the best house. Even though it was old and somewhat rusty, it was big and even had its own shed and an area where you could grow your own garden. You always told Ellie that she should take advantage of that garden and use it as something, but she never did.

You nervously ran your hands in your hair, knowing that if you got caught you’d never hear the end of it from Joel, who was the one that made you promise to keep Ellie safe once you guys became best friends.

You crept around the house and used the tree that was right next to Ellie’s window to prop yourself up and in front of her window. You lifted the large piece of glass easily. I know we could trust people in Jackson but this girl has to start locking her windows just in case. I mean, seriously, you thought to yourself as you quietly jumped from her window to the floor of her room.

You quietly crept so that you were towering over her sleeping. You took your time looking at her. You felt a little guilty waking her up in this state. She looked so peaceful while sleeping. The usual furrow in her brow was non existent and for the first time in a very long time, she looked completely at ease.

You never felt jealous, really, about how pretty Ellie is. You always just kind of admired it. How someone as beautiful as her tried so hard to get you to like her. You felt as if your beauty was incomparable to hers. She had a constellation of freckles across her face and the most perfect nose and vibrant green eyes you’ve ever seen on anyone, and while you never thought you were ugly, you just felt like you looked to basic next to her. You’d never tell Ellie that you thought she was pretty even though you meant to, she just made you too nervous to tell her. And you also didn’t know why.

You quickly put that thought away, though, and put your hand quickly over her mouth.

“Don’t scream.” You whispered to her as she opened her eyes.

She didn’t even hesitate to throw you off of her, grabbing her pocket knife out from under her pillow and tackling you to the ground while letting out a high pitched shriek.

“Shh!!! Ellie it’s me stop—stop.” You put your hands up in the air defensively while she was on top of you holding the pocket knife to your throat.

Her look of concern turned to a half-smile as she put the knife down and got off of you to stand up.

“Dude. I told you to stop trying to scare me every time you sneak in.” She rubbed her eyes. “A simple tap on the shoulder to wake me up would be fine.” She sarcastically smiled at you, making you chuckle back at her.

“But what’s the fun in that?” You asked as you stood up to sit yourself at the edge of her bed.

“Ok so…why the fuck are you here?? At 12:30 in the morning? You know you have patrol tomorrow.” Ellie said, looking up at you from the ground.

“Well first of all, happy birthday! And second of all, I have a surprise for you.” You looked back at her, standing up and offering your hand to help her up.

“What are you gonna kidnap me?” Ellie laughed as she used you to help herself up.

“No…” you trailed off. Why do you feel so nervous all of a sudden? “I was thinking…” you looked down and played with your hands, nervous habit. God get yourself together y/n, you mentally cursed at yourself. “We sneak out and I show you something interesting.” You stopped playing with your hands to look back at her. You felt as if her gaze was burning into your skin. You hated how she had this insane sort of power over you, making you melt with only one look.

“Like though the gates?” She questioned.

“Well duh.” You whispered which a slight laugh.

“Okay but, if we get in trouble this is all on you y/n” Ellie grabbed your arm to lead you out of her room while she used her other free hand to grab her shoes.

“So are you gonna show me something cool or are we just gonna keep walking?” She joked, making her steps sound way heavier than they should.

“It’s right here.” You said, pointing at the old building in front of you.

“Absolutely not. No fuckin’ way I’m going in there.” She turned around but you quickly grabbed her by her waist to turn her around and to look at her. Was she blushing? No, she wouldn’t be.

“Just trust me, okay?” You reassured her as you ran up to the door of the building and pushed it open.

You grabbed her arm and had her run after you up the stairs. “Okay. Close your eyes Ellie.”

She shut her eyes but you also put your hands over her eyes to make sure she wasn’t peeping. Both of you were in front of a door that led to the roof of the building, where you set the telescope you found on patrol.

You led her out onto the roof with your hands still over her eyes. The view was insane. Stars were everywhere and run-down buildings were seen for miles on end. You were surprised how you didn’t find this place any sooner.

Okay…open” you moved your hands off her face in anticipation. You really hoped she’d like this.

“Holy shit…” she said quietly, almost to herself, as she walked around the rooftop.

“How did you find this place?” She said, with the largest smile you’ve ever seen.

“That’s not even the best part…” you said, nudging your head towards the telescope.

“WHAT THE FUCK. Where did you find this??” Ellie exclaimed, running up to the telescope and toying around with it.

“Don’t worry about that. Just enjoy it.” You smiled at her eagerness.

She looked through the telescope as you walked up next to her, looking at the sky through your naked eye. “This is crazy. Look.” She said, stepping back.

You looked through the lens of the telescope, “Is that Jupiter?”

“No, Mars, I think.” She admired the way you tucked your hair behind your ears, and the way your tongue peeked out of your mouth in concentration.

After a while of taking turns on the telescope, both of you ended up laying on your backs, watching the stars.

“That one kind of looks like a bunny.” Ellie pointed up at the constellation.

“Really? I think it looks more like a fish.” You laughed quietly.

But instead of a usual jokingly snarky remark from the auburn haired girl, there was just silence.

It stayed that way for a couple minutes, to the point where you thought she might have called asleep, so you turned to see her face. Still awake.

“Do you think—if the world never ended like this— that we’d still be friends.” Ellie asked, almost in a whisper.

You sat up. “I dunno. Why?”

“Just wondering.” She also sat up.

Both of you stared at each other for a while, you broke the contact first though.

Ellie could’ve sworn, in that moment, that you didn’t even look human. The moonlight casted a glow on your skin and hair, which was perfectly tucked behind your ears, putting all your features on display.

“You’re really pretty y/n, y’know?” Ellie tried to look at your face, but you wouldn’t look at her.

“Sure.” You let out a quiet laugh that almost came out as a scoff.

“I’m serious!” She raised her voice, “I just don’t think you realize it.”

“What’re you doing?” You looked at her, trying to understand where she was getting at here. Was she flirting? Or was she just being nice?”

“Prettiest thing I’ve ever seen…” she looked down at her hands.

You smiled at her nervousness. There was no way she wasn’t flirting with you right now. She’d always hint things like this to you, but never like this.

You don’t know what took over you in that moment, but you reached out your hands to cup her face, closing the gap between your lips with a soft kiss. There was nothing intense about it. It was slow and soft. Her hands went to grab your waist to pull you closer.

She said your name in a whisper as your hands went from her face to her waist as well. Roaming up and down her torso to pull her even closer, if that’s possible.

She broke the kiss first and just looked at you. You couldn’t tell if she was scared or nervous until that all-too familiar smile broke out.

She brought her hands to touch her lips. “What now?” She asked.

“We’ll figure it out.” You grabbed her hand and held it in your own.

Another Time (Chapter 3/14)

ONE TWO

Summary: Jake wakes up in Rooster's body about ~30 or so hours post-Mission and they have to deal with it. They're adults. Apparently.

(Posting on Tumblr, chapter a day until it's complete (currently 12 chapters already written), after it's complete I will post it on AO3 once a day until it's complete and there as well).

                Jake kept his eyes closed, able to follow the glaringly obvious instructions Rooster had left laying out. Knew it was Mav’s fingers in his hair and he’s a little weirded out because he knows there’s something going on between Mav and Rooster, but he has no idea what it is. Their conversation had been the most awkward thing to overhear and he hates not having all the pieces to a puzzle. He must drift a little, because the next thing he hears is Rooster, coming back into the room and he grunts at the sensation of pain again as he becomes more conscious. Sleep is definitely the preferred state of being right now.

                “I got his… things,” Rooster says, gesturing with his hand the rolled clothes he has and Jake grunts out his thanks, slowly moves to sitting again.

                “I’ll leave you to help him, thanks Hangman. Love you kiddo…”

                “Uh, love you too,” Jake says, and he is going to kill Bradshaw dead, but at least he knows that Mav views Rooster as his fucking kid, which is far better than the other places his overactive imagination had taken him. The look on his own face across the room is one of sheer relief so he obviously didn’t fuck anything up by just telling his commanding officer he loves him. He tries to convey with a look that Rooster is going to fucking explain everything but the only effect it seems to have is Mav giving Rooster a pat on the back and telling him to take good care of him. And he’s watching his own neck flush with embarrassment again.

                He’s grateful that Rooster was obviously allowed to shower last night, although the sweats he’s had from being in pain make his skin itch. He lets Rooster help him change, the moonboot carefully removed and he realizes that of course Rooster is going to be extra careful with his own body. He can manage some of it, but his (or rather Rooster’s) body is aching and stiff and the extra pair of hands is needed to help him pull the t-shirt off. The silence between them feels strained and unnatural, tense in a way he hadn’t thought was a possibility and he wants to prod at it.

                “This was not how I ever imagined you taking off my clothes…” Jake says, like poking a sleeping bear he wants to see how it will react.

                “Technically these are my clothes.”

                “Technically it’s also your body… is it copping a feel when it’s your own body?”

                “No. It’s not exactly a turn on right now…”

                “And another time?” Jake presses, because they’ve gotten weirdly intense, mere inches between them, skin brushing in impersonal movements, but he wonders if he’s imagining the potential for more or simply hoping for it. Feeling what he wants to feel.

                “Another time,” Rooster says, and it sounds like a declaration. Jake’s breath catches, holy shit, he shifts forward, head angling to the right and then he’s capturing Rooster’s lips in the gentlest brush of lips. Soft warm flesh contrasts with the rougher scrape of facial hair, it lasts the briefest of seconds but their faces remain close, sharing the same air as they breathe.

                “Another time,” Jake says, and he means it like a promise this time, not a question. They maintain eye contact, a silent agreement and he guesses they’re going to figure some other shit out too, just not the whole body-switching thing. Fuck. He’d briefly forgotten about that. “I guess it was too much to hope that a kiss would make us switch back…”

                Rooster snorts and Jake lets out an amused huff of laughter at the sound, stomach swooping a little in gleeful anticipation because now he feels like they’re facing whatever the fuck this is together, rather than just enduring it and each other. The moonboot is fastened again, shoelace tied on the solitary shoe and the Corpsman appears, telling them they have fifteen minutes and he somehow has to manage crutches, despite his arms shaking with fatigue and the small cuts on his knuckles busting open.

                Phoenix and Bob are waiting outside the sickbay. Bob’s face is expressionless, maybe mild concern (Jake reminds himself to never bet against him in poker), but Phoenix is looking at him, an eyebrow raised, eyes flicking to Rooster in Hangman’s body and then back, clearly wondering what the hell is going on. He shrugs helplessly because he’s with Rooster on not wanting to sound detached from reality. Also if he’s telling anyone it’ll be Javy. Rooster can tell his own friends.

                They make their way up and he begrudgingly lets Bob and Rooster help him awkwardly up the stairs, glad he doesn’t have to try and manage any ladders right now, because he’d probably just get strapped to a board and have to suffer the indignity. They get to the deck and he lets himself lean on his crutches, the short excursion exhausting him. The bulky greyhound is sitting and waiting and he watches as the others follow the instructions of the deck crew. Movement catches his eye and he turns, stiffens in immediate response as he realizes that Admiral Kazansky is on deck. Why?

                While he guesses their whole mission was a big deal, to have the COMPACFLT onboard seems extreme. A flash of memory, that Top Gun photo from 1986 and Kazansky being in the same class as Maverick. Who he is now staring at, mouth pursed in what looks like extreme displeasure. Maverick is staring back though and it’s then that he realizes the Admiral’s right hand is moving rapidly. He’s finger spelling Jake realizes in surprise.

                The fact that Maverick flashes back the single sign for I love you and the Admiral rolls his eyes has Jake convinced he’s not only swapped bodies but also slipped into an alternate reality.

i read* this jamikali fic (i like my ships with a bit [read: a LOT] of tragedy/disaster-ness to them. it's so so so compelling to read!) and i just love the "Dubiously Unrequited Love" tag. bcs yes, the feelings are technically mutual, but there is a whole slew of other factors keeping the relationship from being a thing, which it could be a thing, but there's also that awareness that it won't last, sometimes a couple doesn't have to be endgame for the love to mean something, ykw?

this entire oneshot series....has me in a chokehold... my introduction to "Non-Sexual Intimacy" (and "Non-Sexual Nudity" i guess?) like??? holy shit??? the tension?? the way op just encapsulates the poignancy of being in such a vulnerable position without teetering too much into the cliche of roëmænce it has me On My Knees!! (like i love my smut and romance cliches, but some days i jus want a liiiitle bit more spice and variety)

Shoutout to the "Unreliable Narrator"++"Ambiguous Ending" combi that reaaaaally makes you work for understanding the plot, idk how to word it but being able to leave Just Enough Breadcrumbs and having enough trust in your readers to Get what ur implying, also forcing me to reread the fic immediately is so foul (in a good way). like there's an enjoyment in a good satisfying read, and then there's the Itch of never being sure in your interpretation, the feeling that u just need to go over it another time, spot another detail u missed, get wrecked all over again, rinse and repeat. idk i love fic.

Ayoo guess who did some reading today for no particular reason whatsoever? It would be me, the Kamari333. So now I'm gonna tell you about the thing I saw and thought was pretty cool.

I binged through all 19 (did i count that right?) of the currently published comic posts of:

@insanelyadd 's SkeleChara AU

It's a post-pacifist technically canon-compliant AU, but in a, "I'm complying with Canon, but Canon is saying 'no, not like that!'" sorta way (which I say as a complement). It all seems to be comics posted on Tumblr. The art is pretty, colorful, and executed with commendable technical skill (i admire such consistent proportions, and keeping so 'on model' across so many panals -- as someone who has also tried doing comics, that shit's hard yo). The characterization is done in broad strokes, with what I would describe as "minimalist" narrative techniques that I think work fabulously for the medium. It adds to the lore without ret-coning anything canonical, and leaves space for several interpretations to make themselves comfortable.

Most of all, I think it's really neat that Addy made their AU with such a generous interpretation of Chara's character. I've always seen them as a very different kind of person, with a more... calculating and cynical personality, purposefully so. Addy's interpretation of Chara is softer, more vulnerable, and more emotionally open than I expected. To clarify: this isn't a bad thing. I find this take to be perfect for the narrative in which it has been implemented, executed in a way that makes the story not only work, but work well.

I am also rather charmed by the familial dynamics implied: not only is Papyrus the primary progenitor and parent of Charakterny (which is the name of a font, and seems to be a polish-language colloquialism for "full of character"), but there are implications of multi-parental unit networks involving at least Toriel (Chara's last parent).

The story is currently on Hiatus, as of now, but if you want a fluffy literally-found family story, i can happily recommend the SkeleChara AU.

Cause I'm gay, let's go Putting the outfits in the order of when they appear in the film, rather than a ranked order. Since many get the same rating. Please take this with the lighthearted intent it was written in.

1. Sleeveless Madhouse. It’s very good. I like it a lot. We take note of the nail polish, we enjoy it while we can, it will disappear shortly. 8/10

2. The Flannel Trooper Technically this is the second outfit we see Hunter in. It belongs more to a later scene but that’s just this film’s odd relationship with continuity and time. It’s also his worst fucking outfit. I don’t know if he just does not suit plaid. I certainly think the jeans don’t quite work. Whatever it is, it’s not great. Love the Iron Maiden shirt, tho. 4/10

3. The Hidden Shock Shirt ft. The Jacket™ Solid outfit, love that edgy shit for Hunter. Want that shirt. Debut of the denim jacket. Sadly includes the grey jeans that I do not fuck with. 8/10.

4. Misfits At A Party We love an all black vibe. Striking Misfits skull, all around a great look. 9/10.

5. Judas Brat Another all black number. With or without the black denim jacket, it's a major vibe. I like the all-black converse. Very good. 9/10.

6. The Last Supper for Hunter's full head of hair. Second to worst outfit in my opinion. It's basically a copy of the third outfit but without any of the flavor. 5/10.

7. Slayer Shirt For The Hurt Calling this a comfort outfit. I like it a lot. Shirt looks kinda worn and soft and it’s a good level of oversized. Those fucking grey jeans again tho. But black converse, so~ 8/10.

8. No Sleeves No Chill Debut of the newly altered battle jacket as well as the earring. We also get the T-Shirt referencing the film's tagline, very good. The scribbled on 'tattoos' are so stupid and I love them. 9/10

9. The Violent Outfit Of Reason Back to all black! And it looks comfy. I love it. I actually really like the, what looks like, black cargo pants??? This outfit was me at 13. Seriously, it looks like it was plucked straight from my teenage closet. I'm gonna be biased. (Tbf I would 100% wear this now, as is the case for most of his outfits.) 9/10

10. Completely Gay The sleeveless shirts are a gift that keeps on giving. (also the faded shitty little scribbled on 'tattoos') 8/10

11. The Best Outfit This is it. This is the best one. Hands down, his best outfit. One may count the Rhoads as a part of the outfit idgaf, it’s his best outfits regardless. The silhouette, the battle jacket, the symbolism. Chef’s kiss. 10/10

12. Gym Shorts eheheheheheheheh look at him 7/10

13. Ready For Battle We’re considering the corpse paint as part of the outfit. It’s so very extra in the best way possible. The fact that they fit 2 continuity errors into 1 outfit and have the blue light randomly turn off, it's great. Bonus points for Demonias~ (That collar looks so uncomfortably snug tho but I wear them really fuckin' loose when I do so maybe this is normal?????) 9/10

14. Rehab Boy #1 I actually really like his rehab outfits???? Idk I think they're cute. I mean I don't fully get WHY Hunter has to wear sweats when everyone else in rehab seems to just be in their own clothes????? I'm guessing Alan "Father Of The Year" Sylvester, dropped him off without any change of clothes, so these were probably provided by the rehab center. 7.5/10

15. Rehab boy #2 See entry 14, but beige. 7.5/10

16. Battle Of The Bands I like it but I am SEVERELY disappointed by the LACK of eyeliner. I just think it could be more extra. Like mf really pulled out a custom Jackson but couldn't whack on some eyeliner or smth. We know Hunter can do extra, so give me extra. Still like it tho. 8/10

17. Reformed Asshole At first I really didn’t like how they put Hunter in a very light outfit now that he’s ‘nice’ like some cliche visual shorthand. But I’ve grown to love the outfit over time. It looks comfy. Cute hurt boy vibes imo. 9/10

14. What are they petty about?

Although he appears professional and put-together to the public, we know that's not the full story. Jumin can be childish and petty too, especially when talking to certain members of the RFA 👀.

He's very sensitive about Elizabeth the Third. Call her by her full name, treat her with respect and recognize her true beauty and elegance or face the wrath of petty cat mother Jumin.

Also, I think he's at his pettiest when talking to Zen. It's very satisfying to see how quickly he can get a rise out of him, and it's good revenge for when Zen is talking shit in the chat.

31. What dumb shit do they do without hesitation?

Spending money. Especially with two people (technically one person and one cat) to spoil now, he will not hesitate to drop ridiculous amounts of money on things that he shouldn't, just to make you happy. Be careful of what you say around him or he'll be buying you an island just because you said you miss the beach.

Elizabeth III lives in kitty paradise and wears diamond-encrusted collars, and it's still not enough for him. She has enough toys, beds, collars and different kinds of treats to last her all of her nine lives.

Special mention for this moment:

Pure reckless dumb ideas from Jumin here. Only he would think of stealing a sports car and crashing it just to get revenge and let off steam.

50. What are they super embarrassed about enjoying?

He isn't used to feeling embarrassment. However, he has some guilty pleasures that he likes to keep to himself.

I think that he secretly enjoys reality TV shows. The over-the-top personalities, the bizarre situations they get put into, the ridiculous fights that inevitably break out... He just can't look away. It's like a nature documentary on a new and strange environment he'd never have known otherwise.

He also enjoys watching romance dramas (though he stays away from ones about office romances, they feels too close to home). He is secretly an expert on the different tropes and character types, and likes to theorize with Elizabeth on what's going to happen next.

Jihyun

14. What are they petty about?

I believe that Jihyun at his best is as mischievous and petty as the next RFA member. Remember, he grew up with Jumin. He can give as good as he gets, even if it's in his own way.

This is most obvious when he's talking to Jumin or Saeyoung, as he's the most comfortable with them. If they try to tease him or embarrass him, he has plenty of ammunition on them to fire back.

31. What dumb shit do they do without hesitation?

V thinking he could take on Mint Eye and rescue MC all by himself only to get drugged into oblivion is a pretty strong contender for dumbest V moment.

Despite being one of the oldest members and the head of the RFA, he doesn't seem to think things through completely. He's the definition of act first and think later, because he has so much that he's desperate to protect.

50. What are they super embarrassed about enjoying?

Videogames. He has a console at home (an old one of Jumin's) and a decent collection of games. He often unwinds by playing indie games with unique artstyles and calming environments. These aren't the ones he's embarrassed about.

He made a LOLOL account out of curiosity after hearing Yoosung talk about it, and was hooked almost immediately. He has since gotten quite good at it and even branched into other similar games. He doesn't bring it up in the chat because he's embarrassed of what Saeyoung and Yoosung would say if they found out.

13. What are some must-read fanfics in your fandom? Why do you admire these, and how have they impacted your works?

I'm not nearly reading enough fanfics about Astarion - which is solely because I have too much shit to do... So it's mostly one-shots I come across.

I guess, for one, you absolutely HAVE to read @tripleyeeets A Lover's Folly because wow (and also there's another story developing)... Their writing is amazing, the way the characters are written... also their writing deeply motivates me to get better because I feel like I have much to learn in terms of articulation and just in a technical sense.

@sweatandwoe has written some amazing one-shots for requests and wrote this one here which desperately made me want to write a story with ascended Astarion and all the angst and slow-burn in the world.

@lokasxnna has written this wonderful piece about Astarion and his pointy ears (and the title is so amazing): To Hold Me Like Water And I just love the idea and the way a soft, intimate moment is shared.

@thatfreshi writes very emotional one-shots that explore vulnerable moments, that sometimes go as far as making my chest hurt: Not if You Collect Them Like Ex-Lovers (Enjoy the damn pain, y'all!) And that really made me want to include more moments in my stories where Astarion and Tav deeply connect on an emotional level

14. What aspects of your creative process do you enjoy the most? Which are most challenging?

Most? Thinking about it, immersing myself in the world and the characters, down to the last little details. Coming up with stupid or very emotional stuff and funny (at least to me) dialogue. Most challenging is definitely finding the time to work on stuff - atm I could really just keep writing all day. Also... the English words won't English sometimes although it's gotten better already (I think??). But yeah, cliché, I know, but: English isn't my first language - so... I'm sorry.

15. What programs/tools do you use while writing?

I write in Word and use OneDrive so I can work on different devices (might move over to GoogleDocs soon to make that easier). Dict.cc is my best friend in terms of vocabulary, when I don't remember exactly if I've chosen the right word or just can't English for a hot moment... Also Spotify stays ON while writing. That's it I guess.

18. Are there any themes or tropes that you enjoy writing? Any themes or tropes you hate writing?

I can't say that I've written awfully much yet, so let's go with what I think I'd like or hate. I definitely like enemies-to-lovers and slowburn, a good grumpy meets sunshine trope, grumpy characters, sassy characters, gothic themes and environments, the gentleman villain trope... List could go on I think. Things I really don't enjoy is like major miscommunication and when characters just won'T FUCKING TALK ABOUT WTF IT IS THAT BOTHERS THEM, UUUGH (this is the worst really and makes a lot for lazy writing when trying to create drama, imho) But I can't really think of something else that I'd really hate (other than stuff that's ofc not legal or shit like that).

navigating a new school and residence, dodging false accusations from an angry girl, meeting this mysterious woman that sends her on a quest, becoming the de-facto leader of a new group and people looking to her for what to do next, sarah dying, hearing voices around the house, thinking she may be going insane, rufus zeno threatening not just her life but her friends’ lives as well, learning she’s the chosen one and assembling a magical cup all in less than five minutes, an evil spirit threatening her life and now her bf’s life and now her friends’ and grandmother’s life unless she finds some mystical mask in a set of tunnels under the house, accidentally hexing her friends leading to alfie regressing to a child and baby; and amber aging to a very scary point, choosing to put on the mask of anubis in order to save her friends and gran’s lives which meant her going into the field of rushes and just flat out die basically. all the while deal with romance drama and joy’s villain era.

so to put all of that in a five minute video would not suffice it nor do her justice

i did try and do parts for each song

power of the mind is and always will be a nina song, it was the first song i picked out for her and i just think it really fits her

like the first song is mainly her introduction, the most important bits like meeting sarah, getting the locket, her parallels to sarah and her ingenuity as well as smarts and recklessness too, just her character overall and then we slowly moved to chosen one stuff in the next song and then senkhara's hold over her as well as why she wants the mask after that

i didnt show a lot of rufus going down bc it's nina's story to tell, rufus is a whole other thing and at the end, i really tried to focus on nina specifically

that being said, it does end with fabian (and amber) missing her, the last bit of her being the hand written letter (not the locket, that's another thing entirely) i wanted to focus on something nina did rather than what she was given

i used imovie for the software, dont really have anything to say about it bc its free for me so i dont really know other video editing software *shrug*

the penultimate song (the way by zack hemsey) was almost this song called dwell on dreams and i changed it bc it was just too uplifting, like nope, we gotta go down darkness right now

i listened to like eight different songs trying to decide what fit fabina in the end, and i think last kiss by taylor swift really does summarize them in majority, if anyone else has another song please let me know

also a victor video would be fun too but i’d have to go back and record his scenes again bc i was mainly focused on sibuna stuff

at one point nina’s video has over 54 minutes of content. yep. (thats not including the fabina scenes. in total it should come around to an hour and thirteen minutes. yep.)

i just realized while i didnt end up publishing it on July 7th, i managed to get it out there on July 17 which i think is a fun win!

my favorite part of the video is prob when vera asks victor “what is it about that girl? she makes you nervous, decidedly nervous.” i love it, i wished more characters talked about nina and what she can do, like idk rufus or some of the teachers smth like “dont underestimate them. especially nina martin.” and shit.

like for example in the s1 ending for HHA victor’s on the phone w the real bad guy or whatever, and he’s asking who’s responsible for all this shit and victor answers, “Her name… is Nienke. Nienke Martens.” or smth like that i cant remember

the next video is Alfie’s and i hope his does remain with five minutes bc the song i have for him is perfect and unlike Nina he does have one direct line of evolution from class clown to traumatized to untrustworthy sibuna to brave sibuna, proving to us and to his friends but most importantly to himself that he’s the bravest sibuna no matter what.

so. i have a few ideas and unfortunately i can’t quite get them to gel together into one, so i may as well list them all

the mentor fukuchi option

fukuchi got him out of the research facility around the time he was 14-15ish, and, well. mentored him - taught him to fight and basically put in his head all these ideas about unifying the world

i imagine chuuya would be loyal to him, but still somewhat suspicious, esp when he can’t remember his past. speaking of

the bait option

idk if bait is quite the right word? but, like. the way sigma is kept in the doa - he’s promised something he simply can’t say no to. and that thing is information about his past, kept by fyodor who gives him small bits after every mission he completes - just enough to keep him going, but not enough to make him feel fulfilled and want to leave

i’m not sure where this would fit with the timing in his life, but i assume he gets to be in the sheep here, but not with the mafia. do the events of 15 simply not happen? does he simply say no to mori’s offer? maybe fyodor meets him on that cliff before he gets to dazai. idk.

i lied when i said there are a few ideas btw i think i only have these two. anyway the real interesting part isn’t the how and why but rather what he’ll be like when interacting with the members and such. starting with the simplest and getting more complicated as i go

(also an important detail i can’t seem to find a place to fit, but i assume the doa will have the means to nullify arahabaki before it kills chuuya, given how fukuchi has ties not only with the government but also the un, and given how meursault has cells that nullify abilities, one can assume such technology exists and in which case there’s no reason for the doa not to get their hands on it. also as i typed this i remembered sigma has this nullifying gun iirc. so they probably just have more and this is how they get arahabaki down when they need to. or maybe it’s implemented in him somehow, like they can remotely activate smth that’s constantly on him coughchokercough and “turn off” arahabaki without getting near him)

bram

yeah no he doesn’t know about his existence. at least not at first? in the mentor fukuchi option i’m sure fukuchi will show him bram at some point, right before the time of the doa’s introduction in the main story. in this case, i feel like chuuya would honestly feel a sense of kinship with bram, both kind of used as a weapon of mass destruction, except unlike bram he can leave if he wants to (but... can he really? a bit harsh to think about, so he doesn’t like, go out of his way to interact with him)

sigma

like bram, def a lot of sense of kinship here, but more about the “i only remember the last few years of my life” thing. i feel like they could actually be friends even beyond that, tho. they’re really similar in a lot of ways and they could def bond over it, and i think having someone like chuuya around would make sigma feel better about the whole thing, which i think will make him even deadlier, more desperate to stay in this place he calls home. also, chuuya could back him up in the casino arc, and. um. yeah the hunting dogs will not survive that one

nikolai

nikolai finds out chuuya can technically fly and loses his shit. chuuya will become his new favorite person (but like, the way sigma is, not the way fyodor is). chuuya does not like that to say the least, but he does like to train with him sometimes bc nikolai can help him hone his reflexes

eventually nikolai would get tired of him tho imo? at least in the pre-canon part. chuuya would just be annoyed with his antics, no surprises, and it’ll get boring for nikolai. then he’ll find out abt the arahabaki thing and immediately chuuya is the most interesting person in the world again. he will definitely try to get him to use it constantly. he would love arahabaki sm.

during the actual story tho, after nikolai defects, i imagine he’ll want to free chuuya too. maybe he’ll steal his choker at some point, store it in his overcoat. “prove your free will by possibly be willing to die if you let arahabaki run loose” sort of thing, but actually it’s secretly “don’t be confined by what fyodor and fukuchi are doing to you. be your own person. never use arahabaki if you don’t want to”

fyodor

definitely the one holding the metaphorical leash over him, and chuuya knows it, and hates it. if we go by the “fyodor coming to recruit him at the end of 15′s events” route, he’ll hate how much the guy reminds him of dazai. also he thinks he’s creepy. still, he respects his plans, and does as he’s told for now, but he knows damn well not to trust fyodor. i imagine in said recruiting moment fyodor would probably kill some/all of the sheep to give him a sense of helplessness and like he has no other option but to go with him, so naturally chuuya would resent him for that

like p much everyone else, he has no idea what fyodor’s ability is, but he noticed pretty early that fyodor seems unkillable, so he doesn’t even try. something tells him that despite his own immense power, he won’t be able to kill fyodor, so he picks his battles carefully and never even tries (tho, maybe in the future. maybe i could offer more insight once we learn what fyodor’s ability is and what’s the deal with his supposed immortality)

fukuchi

i kinda of already got into it in the mentor fukuchi option, so as a tldr, chuuya respects him, is loyal to him, but is suspicious of him

however in the other option i feel like the knowledge of fukuchi being a part of a terrorist organization despite his position would kind of make him... bitter? also eternally curious if fukuchi was somehow involved/knew people who were involved in the arahabaki project somehow. he tries to keep his distance from him, just do what he’s told so he can get what he wants, without getting involved with things bigger than him

i imagine if anyone encourages him to use arahabaki a lot - for actual strategical reasons, not like nikolai who mostly thinks it’s cool - it’d be fukuchi (fyodor would not want to rely on smth this chaotic unless there’s no other choice, imo), which would also make chuuya resent him a bit.

also i wonder if fukuchi would ask him to infiltrate the hunting dogs with him in any of these options. could also be interesting, and also oddly fitting tbh.
