Doukhobor Conscientious Objectors at Alternative Service Camp, Montreal Lake, Saskatchewan 1941. Most came from Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, or the Doukhobor communities around it. They were sent to work starting in June 1941, as Doukhobors were conscientious objectors and refused to serve in the Canadian military, as they had refused decades ago to serve in the Czar’s army.. Dozens of other young Doukhobor men were imprisoned for their refusal to join the army or do alternative service, or fled to other parts of Canada. The Alternative Service workers built between June and October 1941 forty miles of Highway No. 2 (still in use) connecting La Ronge with points south, through land that was mostly First Nations.
Mostly from the private collection of Peter A. Kouznitsoff, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Doukhobor Heritage.

5) Road Construction Work: Heavy equipment parked along the grade as it is built up during road construction. Alternate service road construction project, Montreal Lake, SK, 1941.
6) Road Construction Work: A dragline prepares the road bed and ditches along the alternate service road construction project at Montreal Lake, SK, 1941.
7) Moving the Camp: The work camp was built to be portable so that it could follow the course of the road construction. All the tents were built on wooden skids. Here, a tent in the distance is being skidded down the roadway to the next location. Three such moves are known to have occurred during the Montreal Lake alternate service road construction project, 1941.

9) Road Construction Work: Peter A. Kouznitsoff (left) poses with another Doukhobor worker atop a road grader.
10) Doukhobor conscientious objectors at the Montreal Lake alternate service camp were granted leave on Sundays. On several occasions, men on leave travelled to nearby Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National Park for recreation. Here a group poses near the beach; Peter A. Kouznitsoff is seated in the center foreground, July 6, 1941.

Thinking back on it, Danny probably should have been more wary of being given the title ‘Ender Of Timelines’.

Having just finally listened to the new The Magnus Protocol and getting introduced to Needles the 'What Do You MEAN I'm Not Scary Enough!?' Avatar of Sharp Poking, I have to say right now that I know in my heart of hearts that he must have so many terrible nicknames among the other avatars
"Hey, Pinhead, how goes the phone spam?" <- stings because originally he chose 'Pinhead' on purpose to reference Hellraiser, but absolutely no one got it until he spelled it out and by then the name was ruined
"What's up, Prick?" <- lowest effort, but still goads him into raising a single massive darning needle middle finger in response
"Kebab, can you hold onto this for me?" <- said before having assorted foods speared on him; fruits, sausage, cheeses, etc. Takes forever to pluck everything off. Even worse when someone just ambushes him with a down comforter and pillows
"This you?" <- no name involved, but always a prelude before being shown a picture of a porcupine
Just. There is no way this faintly jingling pile of pointy things has any respect among the rest of the bogeymen in this universe. I love it

"Toronto Police Catch Doukhobor," Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. September 19, 1941. Page 3. --- Special to the Star-Phoenix PRINCE ALBERT, Sept. 19. - Peter William Posnikoff, a Doukhobor of Canora district is under arrest at Toronto and will be brought back to Prince Albert under escort by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to face the charge of failing to report when summonsed for road work in lieu of military service.
Posnikoff is one of the Doukhobor group called to report at Prince Albert. It is learned that three other "conscientious objectors" have failed so far to come in.
Thirty-eight Doukhobors were heard last week and sentenced to three months in Prince Albert Jail and a fine of $150 each. Failing to pay the fines, they must serve a further three months. Ninety-two "objectors" have been sent to jail since July 12. Their fines have ranged from $100 to $150. One has paid his fine and has been discharged.
