CANADA DEPARTMENT OF INDIAN AFFAIRS CIRCULAR OTTAWA, 15th December, 1921. It is observed with alarm that the holding of dances by the Indians on their reserves is on the increase, and that these practices tend to disorganize the efforts which the Department is putting forth to make then self-supporting. I have, therefore, to direct you to use your utmost endeavours to dissuade the Indians from excessive indulgence in the practice of dancing. You should suppress any dances which cause waste of time, interfere with the occupations of the Indians, unsettle then for serious work, injure their health or encourage them in sloth and idleness. You should also dissuade, and, if possible, prevent them from leaving their reserves for the 'purpose of attending fairs, exhibitions, etc., when the absence would result in their own farming and other interests being neglected. It is realized that reasonable amusement and recreation should be enjoyed by Indians, but they should not be allowed to dissipate their energies and abandon themselves to demoralizing amusements. By the use of tact and firmness you can obtain control and keep it, and this obstacle to continued progress vill then disappear. The rooms, halls or other places in which Indians congregate should be under constant inspection. They should be scrubbed, fumigated, cleansed or disinfected to prevent the dissemination of disease. The Indians should be instructed in regard to the matter of proper ventilation and the avoidance of over-crowding rooms where public assemblies are being held, and proper arrangement should be made for the shelter of their horses and ponies. The Agent shall avail themselves of the services of the medical attendant of his agency in this connection.

The Saskatchewan First Act, also known as Bill 88 has been met with controversy in the province, especially with First Nation communities.

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) Chief Bobby Cameron has been a vocal leader against the act since its announcement last fall.

The FSIN said it would take action, including blockades, to oppose the Act as they feel it infringes on inherent treaty rights.

Focus Saskatchewan’s Nathaniel Dove sat down with Cameron in an exclusive interview to discuss the Act, after it passed its third and final reading in the Saskatchewan legislature on March 16. [...]

So interesting how Canada has provided arms, training, military intelligence, and funding to the IOF for decades and during this latest wave of occupation atrocities and genocide, but people still are believing that Canada is somehow better than the US. Canadian military intelligence was key in developing the census data used to target as many Palestinans in Gaza as possible per strike. It was used to train their murderous "assassination factory" algorithm which is used to maximize kills per bomb. Canada's literally doing the same things and it's even doing the same propaganda of materially contributing to genocide while claiming to be working "behind the scenes" to stop it SO many of the so-called western governments are doing literally the exact same thing yet y'all think begging genociders to please stop by sending letters and calls is working if you think asking mass murderers to stop their actions can or will work, it's because you are willing to buy genocidal propaganda instead of rejecting it in favor of supporting militant action against genocide. It's telling that those voices most loudly and consistently urging & organizing all these petitions are white & unmasked in public. The RCMP Was Created To Control Indigenous People

Although the North-West Mounted Police didn’t become the RCMP proper until it absorbed the Dominion Police in 1920, its paramilitary origins are still highly visible in everything from its training depot to how it organizes its officers into troops, right down to the horse and the uniform, Hewitt says.

And while Canadians may like to position ourselves in opposition to the United States, citing their “even worse record in terms of treatment of Indigenous people,” Hewitt says that’s just a myth we tell ourselves to feel better.

The job of the Mounties “effectively, was to clear the plains, the Prairies, of Indigenous people,” he says. “Ultimately, they were there to displace Indigenous people, to move them onto reserves whether they were willing to go or not.”

History books, commissions, inquiries and public apologies reveal what happened next: Indigenous people who resisted were starved onto reserves. The federal government brought in the Indian Act and used Mounties to forcibly remove Indigenous children from their homes, placing them in residential schools rife with abuse.

"URGED INDIAN TO TRUST WHITE MAN," Toronto Star. January 8, 1913. Page 3. ---- Outlaw Killed Two White Men Who Abused His Wife. ---- BEST SHOT IN COUNTRY ---- Canadian Press Despatch. Vancouver, B. C. Jan. 8. - That Simon-Gun-A-Noot, noted Indian outlaw, who for years has successfully defied the police in northern British Columbia, recently considered giving himself up voluntarily to the authorities at Hazelton is the information brought down from the north. Gun-A-Noot is wanted for the murder of two men several years ago.

Rev. Willian Lee, a Methodist minister at Kispiox, which is twelve miles from Hazelton, assists the Indians under his charge in handling the business affairs of their saw mill, which is a co-operative concern, with many native shareholders. A short time ago a strange Indian of fine physique and speaking perfect English called on the missionary asking for the return of certain money he said he had invested in the mill.

When Mr. Lee asked for the visitor's name, the latter, after hesitating, admitted he was the famous outlaw, and his name was found in the list of shareholders. After the business had been concluded Mr. Lee advised the Indian to give himself up.

"But the white men would not take into consideration that I killed their two men because they had abused my wife," objected the outlaw.

Refused to Surrender. Simon went away after agreeing to think over the proposition, but later in the day returned and said he would not surrender himself. He said his friends believed that a jury of white men would not pay enough attention to what led to the murders, because, he declared, white men did not care what was done to Indian women. Mr. Lee told a friend later that Simon was armed with three revolvers - one on each hip and one in a holster in the centre of his belt.

Simon is known as probably the surest shot and best hunter in the north. He was always looked upon as a model Indian until the day when. after having warned two white men to keep away from his wife, he returned from the hunt to find his wife debauched and the two whites holding a drunken celebration in his home. He shot them both dead and then fled, successfully evading capture.

Three Canadian senators are facing criticism after visiting Israel and inviting a right-wing politician to Canada.

Senate Speaker George Furey joined Conservative Senate Leader Don Plett and unaffiliated Sen. Patti LaBoucane-Benson on a trip to Israel this week.

They met with local officials including Amir Ohana, the speaker of the Israeli parliament, which announced the senators had invited him to visit Canada.

Ohana has previously caused controversy by claiming in media interviews that Muslims are prone to “cultural murderousness.” As former public safety minister, he modified Israel’s COVID-19 vaccination priority list to exclude prisoners who are Palestinian. [...]

Imagine cutting humanitarian aid to any country around the world without batting an eyelash. People at their most vulnerable -who are being massively ethnically cleansed and displaced -who are being permanently disabled because of destructive bombings and with whom will probably have little to no resources to help them manage these disabilities their entire lives, who have been and are at the brink of starvation and death... this is what these western/European countries are doing instead of the bare minimum which is a ceasefire.

Albeit it's not a surprise to me (or most of us) since settler-colonial and imperial countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK have notorious histories of genocides against Indigenous people and have been (and currently are) perpetrators of imperial violence.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency provides basic assistance for people -and to deny that life-saving help to Palestinian people (because we know what this is about) is aligning with IOF terrorism -and it undeniably makes these governments all equally complicit.

My MP's office is closed on weekends but I'll be calling and emailing her, and then emailing genocidal apologist Trudeau. Call and/or email your representatives. This is beyond heinous. I truly don't think these governments could sink any lower -be any more evil, and then they do and it's beyond disgraceful.
