Diluc x Reader
Lets Slip Away
The annual Dawn Winery Masquerade Ball, the biggest ball this side of Mondstat, or it used to be. Thankfully, Diluc had successfully scaled the ball down in size a little more with each passing year. Still, it didn't make much of a difference with the ballroom still being packed tight. No matter how the guest list shrunk, people found a way to take up the same amount of space as before. There's nothing I loved more than a dance, but it was the people I couldn't stand. Everyone liked to pretend they were an evil aristocrat once their identity was concealed. A fancy dress, a decorative mask, and a new hairstyle, and everyone felt invincible. It was the same thing every year; they'd order the staff around, drink till they lost control, and leave the manor a mess. It was deplorable.
After watching a woman toss a glass on one of the maids, I lost my cool. I may or may not have tossed my grape juice on the women in retribution. The maid couldn't do it, so I had to use my position as "Master" Diluc's best friend to get away with it. What I didn't expect was for the lady's husband to toss not just the wine but the whole glass at my face. While the glass didn't bust when the base hit my head, it did leave a notable bruise, and the wine soaked through my hair, mask, and dress.
Elzer stepped in immediately to settle the issue, and instead of sticking around to get a lecture, I slipped into the garden. Hiding between several grapevines. I listened to the music pour from the house above and pouted. If I had played my cards right tonight, I would have been dancing in an empty corner with Turner or maybe even Diluc if he was free. He always saved the last dance for me. When the party started to clear a little, we'd stay in my favorite corner and have a quick dance while he whispered about he'll find a way to have the event canceled next year. But no, I was being eaten by mosquitos fighting off a headache.
Holding my mask between my hands, the once white fabric had stained dark red. Even my cream dress was littered with splotches that wrecked of dandelion wine. Sucking in my lower lip, I held back a sudden wave of sadness. It settled into my bones and swept through my limbs in a jitter. Why was I so sad? I avenged the maid and did the right thing… but my chest ached.   Curling around myself, I tucked my head between my lap. There was a time and place for crying, and a party wasn't one. Yet, there I was, sobbing into the fancy gown Diluc had hand made for me. Of course, he wouldn't be mad at me for what happened, but the guilt was eating me alive. I had ruined the evening for myself and made things harder on my friend. "There you are. I've been looking all over-. Hey, Elzer told me what happened, but he didn't mention a welt. How badly are you hurt?" Diluc pushed through the vines faster and hopped over the last row. He knelt beside me and carefully lifted my chin so he could see my face. "I'm just being a baby." I leaned back, the moonlight catching my skin. He ran his thumb over the knot on my forehead, and he clenched his teeth. "Damn bastard." He looked back at the mansion. "He might be wearing a mask, but there's only one person in Mondstat with monogram shoe buckles." "What?" I laughed; he was so serious, but the idea of a monogram shoe buckle had me drying up my tears. "Who pays for that kind of thing?" "Mr. Barker." Diluc wiped under my eyes. "Are you hurt anywhere besides your head?" "Besides the guilt of running the dress you got me and making the party harder for you to manage, I'm fine." I let it out. There was no use in pretending it wasn't bothering me. I had learned a lot about Diluc in our years of being together. While he was a very perceptive man when it came to solving crimes and putting things together, he didn't have the same skill for guessing how I felt. He's known something was wrong before, but he'd just find ways to blame himself if I didn't tell him. "I'll have you another dress made, and those Barkers aren't your fault. Ms. Barker started it, and I ended it. There's always a little drama at these events." He twirled my hair around his finger. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to stop it entirely." "Don't go blaming yourself now." I scooted so close; I was almost in his lap. "Let's just focus on the music or the sky. I know you'll have to go back in soon, so let's just relax for a moment." "Hmm, I can hear it from here. It's nice." A soft number started to play, and people passing by the window cast shadows into the courtyard. He leaned his head against mine. Minutes passed by, and the song changed, both of us just settling our nerves. "So, I guess we won't have the last dance together this year." I hummed, the thought burning at the back of my mind. "I can't go back in there like this." I forced myself to laugh, trying to get it off my chest without sounding too sad. "We don't have to go back in. Elzer can handle the end of the night speech for me, like every year." Diluc stood, reaching his hand out to me. "Milady, may I have this dance?" "Diluc…of course, you may." I pushed my insecurities down and gripped his rough hand. Being wealthy, Diluc had been trained in many different types of formal ballroom dances. When he was in the zone, there was no one but Kaeya who could match his prowess and aura. But I wasn't blessed with the same background. I was just the daughter of the maid, and while my mother was paid well, there wasn't enough money to pay for a dance instructor. However, Diluc taught me everything he knew. We use to spend hours after his class, practicing and gliding around the living room. After some time, I even got to join the classes as Diluc and Kaeya's partner. Creepus convinced my mother it was just good practice for the boys, but looking back, he just wanted me to get that experience as well. "You okay?" Diluc gently gripped my waist as I spun back into his arms. "Yes, I was just thinking about when you taught me how to dance." I closed the gap between us and started moving with the song. Diluc took charge after a few more movements, and I gave up trying to lead. It was always a fun game for us to try to take charge, but I normally gave in fairly fast. Every now and then, he'd let me lead, but I often stepped on his toes when I did.   The ground wasn't level as a dance floor, so it was easier to just follow Diluc. Since he took the first step, he was able to find the best footholds. When we did hit a small hump, we'd steady each other and share a small smile. It wasn't a seamless performance like when we were on solid ground, but it was fun. It also gave us a reason to cling tighter to each other. His broad chest was always so warm; there was nothing more pleasant than laying my head there and closing my eyes as we swayed under the moon. "That was always so much fun." Diluc spun me out, then back into his arms. "Father use to watch us practice, he never told me directly, but Elzer said it was one of his favorite memories." Diluc pressed his lips into a line, eyes turning back to the manor. "He always loved this event, but I can't help but hate it." "I'm not a fan of the crowds or the entitled guests. But I do enjoy dancing with you." I laid my head on his shoulder, bringing him back to the present. "It seems we only dance when this event rolls around. And I can't help but wish for more moments like this. So, while I understand your distaste, I do think Creepus had the right idea. This is a chance for all of us to come together do something we all loved…it just is hard to enjoy when other people are so entitled." "I feel the same way. Dancing with you, it's always my favorite part of the ball." We swayed back and forth in a tight embrace, the music fading out and our footwork growing sloppy. "There's been so much to do recently. I'm afraid I've neglected you." "Mother told me that as friends get older, drifting apart is normal… I'm just glad you're still here with me. No matter how short that time is." He hugged me tighter, inhaling a sharp breath. "Maybe friends do, but my feelings for you are much stronger than just friends." I gasped before I could stop myself. Crickets chirped in the distance, and the lighting bugs emerged just as the party started to close. This moment was very much real…but did he really just confess? "You want to be with me?" I slowly looked up, grabbing the sides of his suit. "As more than friends?" "I do." He pulled back a little, glancing at the ground. "How do you feel? Could you ever love me as more than a friend? I know it's selfish to ask that of you, given the dangers that follow my line of duty. But I can't deny myself any longer." "My heart is going to jump out of my chest, Luc." Grasping his hand, I pressed it to my wrist. He smiled, rubbing his thumb over my pulse. "I want to be yours, and you mine. To be honest, I've had feelings for you for a while now. I just thought you didn't return them." Heat climbed up my face, and I looked away to hide it. While his confession was so smooth, mine was energetic and messy. Why couldn't I keep it calm? "That settles it then." He stepped closer, our eyes locking and fingers lacing. "We'll be together from here on out." A warm breeze went by, picking up the bottom of my ruined skirt. "Next time there's a dance, you won't have to leave my side, nor I yours. There will be no flying wine glasses or uncouth guests. We can dance the night away without worry or interruption." "I don't know if a party could ever go that smoothly." I pushed his hair back and cupped his face. "Unless we barred over half the guest list." "If you don't think I'd do that, then you underestimate how far I'll go to make you happy." His checks tined red, barely illuminated by the moon. "Oh, I don't doubt you, Master Diluc. But I'm not hard to please, we could dance in the living room like we use to, and I'd be the happiest person alive." I tugged him closer, wrapping my arms around his hips, and swaying to an imaginary beat. "It's not often you add my title before my name." He hummed, letting me lead us to the song in my head. "Master Diluc, whatever do you mean?" I batted my eyelashes and snickered. "I didn't realize I added it. Maybe it's where I've spent most of the night talking about you, and not to you that I've forgotten how to be relaxed. There was many a guest who wanted to pry about your love life." "Well, you have a definitive answer now, Lady Amber." He kissed the top of my head, stopping for a moment. His body radiated a wave of heat, and he nodded to himself. "It's starting to get cold. We should head inside before you catch a cold. I'm sure everyone's left by now." "I don't want this moment to end." I clung to his shirt, the warmth he emitted making my eyelids grow heavy. Whenever he allowed me to use him as a personal heater, I took the chance. But this was the first time I didn't worry about it being the last.   "We have many more moments like this ahead of us." He supported me as we walked towards the mansion, looping his arm around my waist. "Let's go clean up, and turn in for the night. Tomorrow we can have breakfast and go for a ride along the river. How does that sound?" "It sounds so nice." Once we were back in the house, Elzer met us in the doorway. "Where have you been, Master Diluc?" He rubbed the bridge of his nose and glanced at me. "And you, Ms. Amber, what were you thinking tossing your drink? You completely ruined the night. I could hardly contain the guests" Diluc wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and Elzer's tone sifted from miffed to muted. "Elzer, the issue was with the guests, not Amber." He steered me towards the stairs, nudging me along. "Go on to bed. I'll be up there in a moment. I have some business to finish up." Diluc walked towards his office, motioning for Elzer to follow him. Elzer shot me a perplexed look and tried to mouth out, 'be more careful' before hurrying after Diluc. I whisper back, "okay," before taking the stairs two at a time before stopping. I wasn't going to get in trouble, so I might as well show I'm not ashamed. "Goodnight Elzer," I called after the older man, with as "pleasant" of a tone as I could muster. Parties almost always stressed him more than Diluc, but since Elzer was an employee, he couldn't run and hide like Luc. Truth be known, if Diluc hadn't been there, I would have gotten a long lecture on the importance of keeping good relations with potential business partners. But that's only because Elzer couldn't let his frustrations out on anyone else. I was always there to listen and receive his distain when things went wrong. It wasn't my favorite pastime, but it did help him feel better. It was surprising he was so stressed, he actually chastised me in front of Diluc. It must have been a tough night even after I left. I usually was lectured in private, but he really was ready to let me have it.   Once in the guest room, I disrobed. The heavy gown took several minutes to untie and loosen the laces, but once it was done, my lungs could fully expand. My ribs ached, so I rubbed circles on my sides till the initial throb dulled. The night had gone better than I ever planned, and now it was over. Yet, there was a worse throb in my chest than the pain of a corset. Diluc and I were finally together. We removed the ever-lingering question and just confessed. Why did it hurt inside? Was it that the party was hard on everyone else and I was so happy? Or was it something else? Tilling the blue pitcher on the nightstand, water rushed into the ornate basin below. Dipping a rag into the cool water, I began to wash the wine from my face. It had been such a stressful night. Perhaps the empty feeling inside was fear of the unknown. Or fear that Diluc would wake up and change his mind. That he'd send me away for good once he realized he could never be with someone of such low status. Someone who didn't couldn't even keep up public appearance at a ball. Maybe, it would just take me slipping up once when I was wearing a mask? Then he'd send me away from the manor. I finished cleaning up, then tossed the water out the window. Fixing the pitcher and basin back in place, I reached below the nightstand and pulled out my nightgown. Slipping on the flowy gown, I turned down my sheets and got comfortable. This guest room had been mine for as long as I could remember. While I still lived in the cottage by the river with my mother, I spent more nights at the mansion than at home. Diluc and I would rush through his paperwork every night, and I'd help get his gear ready to go protect Mondstat. I was his sidekick in many ways. Spending so much time there at night, it just made sense for me to sleep here too. We were a great team. Plus, the close proximity made things easier and less suspicious… But that wasn't the whole truth. It was more so that my mother had met someone new, and he had moved into our shared home. He was a nice man, a retired Knight of Favonius, but I just couldn't relax around him. He was stern about me not going out after dark, so staying over at the mansion became more and more frequent. Which was better for mom and Mr.Godfrey's partnership. But while I spent more nights away, mom started to believe there was something between Diluc and me, so she was happy to see me leave home. She was going to be overjoyed to hear the news that we confessed. Though, I'm sure she'll say kicking me out was the reason we finally admitted our feelings, which was not the whole truth. Still, I did miss my own bed sometimes. Pressing my back to the headboard, I curled my knees up and rested my head between them. Sucking in a deep breath, small tears slipped past again. There was too much happening. I couldn't think about one thing for too long. So much good just happened. Why? Why was I thinking about the bad? A familiar rasp at the door rang through the room. "Come in." Wiping my eyes, I sat up and pulled the covers up to my neck. "You're crying again." He walked into the candlelight. I could tell he had cleaned up before coming to see me. He was wearing one of his loose puffy shirts and some cotton pants; his hair had been smoothed and pulled into a low ponytail, water dripping from the ends. It didn't matter what he wore. He always looked unbelievably handsome. "Was it Elzer? He knows it's not your fault. He was just worried about our trade deal." "There's just so much to think about. I can't let myself be happy." I rubbed my eyes again. "What if you realize I'm not good enough for you? Or what if my mother's partner treats you poorly because you quit the Knights? Then that couple, what if they stop working with you and it hurts the business because of me? No one is ever going to see me as anything more than a gold digger." My brain let loose, new concerns and problems being added to my mix. "I'm so negative right now, and I know you probably just want to be happy that we feel the same way…but- I'm so sorry. "He pulled back the covers and crawled in with me. Wrapping me in his arms, the blanket went over our heads, and Diluc settled down. "There you go, having to comfort me like a child." I rested my hand on his shoulder. "You sure you could learn to love a mess like me?" "I already love you." He rubbed patterns on my back, pressing a kiss to the lump on my forehead. "You've been like this since we were children, plagued with worries beyond your control. I know that after you let it out, you always feel better. And that the minute you go silent, that's when I really need to do some digging." He paused drawing on my back and instead moved to play with my hair. "We'll figure it all out as we go, all the what's and if's. We'll take them one at a time, starting with the one I have control over." "Woah." He flipped me over, hovering inches from my face. He pinned me between his legs, the v neck of his shirt hanging open so I could see the red hairs on his chest. "You could be from the richest family in Mondstat or poorest, and I'd still want to be with you." He kissed me, pressing down just until our bodies touched. "I'd go as far as to say, if you were a member of the Fatui, I'd still be smitten. I would certainly find a way to break your ties with them, but I couldn't stop loving you. So, you are more than enough for me, and if anyone makes you feel differently, then I will handle it." "That's a bold statement coming from you." I ran my fingers through his ponytail as it hung over his shoulder. "I can't argue with that logic, but I promise I'm not a member of the Fatui." I wrapped my arms around his waist, encouraging him to squish me with his full weight. "I'm going to crush you." He fought against me, but I only nuzzled his neck, blowing raspberries. "Amber, hey." "I know. But I'd also like to point out how improper it is for you to be in my room at this hour. So, I'd like to be crushed as repayment… please." I let go of one side of his hip and wiped my eyes. "You are right. It is improper." He lowered himself a little more but didn't fully lay on me. "A true gentlemen would never stay this late with a proper young lady. However, there is something else I want that's a little scandalous." "What could that be?" I gasped, my lungs not fully expanding as his weight sunk down on my chest. He noticed as he sat up to his previous position. "A kiss?" He moved his elbow up and cupped my face. His eyes glimmered with the flame that was lighting up the room. His touch was gentle but so firm I couldn't imagine being in another person's embrace. At that moment, there were only two people in the world, and I was madly in love with one of them.   "That sounds quite proper to me. You should always kiss your lover goodnight." I stuttered a little, unable to keep up the playful banter as I looked at his lips. The smile that spread on his face made the butterflies in my stomach flutter. Archons, I was smitten.   His thumb brushed my lower lip before he brought his mouth down for a chaste kiss. Testing the waters, he hovered millimeters above me, and I stole his lips in a deeper kiss. Having a lack of experience in the field, I matched the pattern he set. Just like dancing, I tried to take the lead and failed miserably. So I did was I was best at, adding the fun flourishes. I curled my fingers into his hair and snaked my hand up his shirt and across his chest. He matched my movements, caressing my face and tilting my head up to deepen the kiss. Every star in the sky dulled in comparison to the explosion of light that spread over my body. He shifted back, catching his breath. he smoothed my hair and peppered, kissing around my face before setting back. "Thank you." He laced our fingers together, pulling my hand to his mouth and kissing my knuckles.     "Will you stay tonight?" I took our intertwined hands and kissed his knuckles in return. "I don't want you to leave just yet." "As you wish." He got behind me, adjusting the covers we had tossed around earlier. "Now, let's get some sleep. We have a big day tomorrow." I laid my head on my pillow and scooted back until we were slotted against each other. His hand wrapped around my shoulders in a reassuring squeeze. "I love you." "I love you more." It took a while for all the blood pumping through my body to relax again, but once it did, I fell into a deep and peaceful sleep. Dreams of dancing through the clouds with Diluc filled my head, and I had the best rest of my entire life. Next to the man I dearly loved.

Update: I made a route for Sakusa! Find that here
Update: I made a route for Atsumu! Finda that here
Story
“Alrighty boys are you ready to go on in?” You said staring at the four well dressed men  behind you.
“No, and I want to go home.” Sakusa adjusted his black facemask. He wasn’t keen on coming to this event whatsoever.
“Sakusa I know, but I really need you! Besides what would you be doing anyway? It's Valentine's day and you're as single as single gets. Live a little. Maybe you will find your Mrs.Clean tonight! Ya never know!” You said as he rolled his eyes and scoffed.
“Omi-Omi don't be that way. Our lovely manager here worked hard to get us this opportunity, and it's benefiting a charity you scrooge.” Atsumu smacked Sakusa’s back.”I think your just upset because you know all the ladies are going to bid on me.” The blond setter smirked at the very pissed Sakusa who just glared at him.
“NOoO It's going to be me who gets all the bids. I still have my tan from Brazil and I’m alot cooler than all of you.” Hinata piped up, proudly adjusting his tie that had little volleyballs on it.
“Well if we don’t get our asses in that building, aint none of y’all getting any bids, besides I’m freezing to death,” You said rubbing your arms. The dress you wore done little to protect you from the cold night.
“Take this please, I don’t want to freeze to death. I like you warm and alive.” Bokuto, who's been oddly quiet, spoke up wrapping his grey tux jacket around your shoulders leaving him in his blue button up. You could smell his cologne on the jacket, you could drown in this and wouldn't complain. Your cheeks ran hot and you managed to let out a “thank you” through chattering teeth.
“Okay let’s get going.” You said wrapping the jacket tighter around you as the boys followed you like baby ducks. Bokuto walked up beside you while the two boys bickered over who would have the most bids in the back, Sakusa wanted no part in it and stayed to himself. You look at Bokuto  who seemed nervous. You decided to hype him up a bit before he went into emo mode. “Bokuto you are going to have some gorgeous high profile women coming after you tonight, I’m jealous of them.” You didn't lie, you had the biggest crush on Bo, ever since you took the job as the MSBY manager. You never have a frown on your face next to him- until now. You knew he’d have a woman, that's not you, by his side tonight. You’d bid on him until your bank went in the negative but you don’t get paid like the women at this event do.
“You wait and see, I’ll have the most beautiful one by time the night is out.” Bokuto said, smiling at you. You felt a pang of sadness creep on you, if he only knew.
The warm air of the ballroom felt nice against your cool body. You gave Bokuto his jacket back, you secretly wished you could keep it forever. You took in your surroundings, the ball room was filled with women in designer dresses and you could see the small stage in the middle of the room.
“Guys I have to find the event coordinator and see what time you guys need to get on stage. Please be on your best behavior, there are cameras everywhere. Atsumu keep the drinking to a minimum, Shoyo for the love of God go to the bathroom now, Omi keep these fools in line and you better be nice to people and last but never the least Bokuto, If you dance please be careful, I don’t want to take you to the ER again because you hit the Cha cha slide too hard. And with that I’m out. I’m counting on you guys.” You said giving them a thumbs up as you got lost into the sea of people to hunt the event coordinator.
~
“Thank you so much Y/N! Everyone is looking forward to the auction. We have some models and a couple pop stars who will be in the line up as well as a few volunteers . I want your boys to go at the end, as they say ‘always save the best for last’.” The coordinator spoke over the bustling crowd. She went over the rules and where they needed to go and what time to line up. You soaked in all the information the bubbly coordinator was giving you. “I have to go let the rest of the people know the game plan. Please have your guys here and lined up in half an hour. Thank you again!” And with that she disappeared into the crowd. Now here came the hard part.
You scanned the large ballroom to find your heathens. Sakusa would be the easiest to find because he is most likely on one of the four corners in the building. Hinata was most likely with Bokuto, and Atsumu was a wild card, he could be at the bar, maybe even on the dance floor trying to impress girls with his dance moves(That suck by the way). You recall the time you found him passed out in a bush drunk off ass at a gala last year. You make up a game plan, you would get Bo and Hinata first, then find a hopefully sober Tsumu and lastly get Sakusa (you figured it best not to drag him around the ballroom) You spot Bokuto’s tall figure next to a snack bar, and as you figured Hinata was with him. They were both stuffing their mouths with meat kebabs and other foods like wild animals, they sure love to eat you thought.
“Bokuto,Hinata, they are getting ready to line everyone up, wait for me over there.” You said pointing towards an area that was not  too terribly crowded.
“HEY HEY HEY Y/N try one of these things, they are so freakin good.” He shoved a cake pop in front of your face. You took it from the gray haired boy.
“Thank you Bo, but we really need to go.” You took a bite from the cake pop. “Wow that is really good.” You said finishing it in one bite. You heard some snickers from a group of girls, they made a smug comment about you eating it all at once. You normally would throw hands but you had an image to uphold. You shouldn't let it bother you but it did.
“Hey don’t let that bother you, besides I like a girl that can eat.” Bokuto said, patting your head. He is literally the human version of sunshine.
“Thanks Bo. But really we need to get the move on, I still have to hunt Tsumu down. Can you and Hinata wait for me over there.” You said pointing to the area again.
 “Roger that.” They said unison.
“I’ll be right back.” You said going back into the crowd. You checked the dancefloor first and he wasn't there(You were relieved he was not.). You made your way to the bar and found him surrounded by women who were mesmerized by his thick accent. You waved him down and he nodded and turned his attention back to the group he had attracted.
“It looks like It's time fer’ me to go, make sure you all bid for me. I’ll be a waitin’” He said getting up and following you. The women he had been entertaining giggled as he walked away.
“Look at you being a player. I didn’t expect that from a man who yells at girls when they cheer for him.” You leaned into him so he could hear you over the crowd.
“I’m just tryin’ to raise some money, it's strictly business. My heart belongs to volleyball for the most part.”He said winking at you. He truly is just a fool in love with the sport.
You led Atsumu to the group and went to retrieve poor  Sakusa. You looked around for a few minutes and felt a tug at the back of your shirt. You turn around and see Sakusa towering over you.
“This is new, I’m used to finding you sulking in a corner.” You said staring into his black eyes.
“I watched you gather everyone up, I figured I would come on over to make it easier for you.” He began to walk towards the rest of the group.
“I guess being 6’4 has its perks huh Omi? You're like a watchtower.” You said looking up at the tall spiker.
“Yeah, guess so.”He said playing with one of his dark curls.
~~
“Okay we have everyone, so you guys are going last, I’ll leave who goes first to you guys. Now let's go get lined up.” You lead them to the stage and let them line up. Atsumu insisted on going first, Hinata would go after him, then Sakusa and lastly Bokuto.
“You owe me some umeboshi after this.” Sakusa said, taking his mask off and putting it in the pocket of his tux.
“Sure thing. I'll even throw in a thing of nice smelling hand sanitizer for the trouble.” You crossed your arms and smirked at him.
“I’ll hold you to that.” He said, filing behind Hinata.
You looked at Bokuto who appeared to be a nervous wreck. He had a small layer of sweat on his forehead and his hands were shaking slightly. “Hey it's going to be okay, I’ll be right here.” You said pulling out your handkerchief and dabbing the sweat off his forehead. “You're amazing and dare I say you're the best looking one.” You said making him blush.
“Ummm HEY.” Atsumu said glaring at you, obviously butt hurt from your comment. Sakusa was unamused and took it upon himself to kick Atsumu. That gave you the opportunity to turn your attention back to the nervous male beside you. Before you could comfort him the loud speaker cut you off.
“Ladies and gentleman, would you please give your attention to the center stage, the date auction will begin momentarily.” The coordinator announced causing everyone to tense up a bit.
“Come on guys loosen up a bit, I’m going to be in the front taking pictures for our instagram page. So show off a little! Show them you are proud to be a part of such an awesome volleyball team!” You hyped them up one last team. “With that being said I want a group picture so bring it in guys.” You said pulling the camera and ushering the athletes into the frame. “Say cheese.” Atsumu wrapped his arm around Sakusa who didn’t have the chance to push him off, Bokuto gave Hinata bunny ears. It was a chaotic photo, but It caught their true essence.
“I want a picture with you before you go Y/N. Pleaseee.” Bokuto gave you puppy dogs eyes and you couldn't deny him.
“Sure Bo. Atsumu here.” You handed him the camera and got beside Bokuto. He wrapped an arm around your waist and held you close to him. You could feel his muscles through the tux that fit just a little too good.
“Aww you look like a cute couple.” Atsumu teased as he brought the camera up to snap a picture. You couldn't make a comeback as embarrassment washed over you. You looked up at Bokuto who had a blush adorning his handsome face.
“Y/N I’m going to do something, don’t get mad.” Bokuto said, picking you up bridal style before you could even protest.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Atsumu said, snapping more pictures.
“Bokuto put me down, I'm heavy!” You shriked  gripping onto his tux.
“No you're not. I could carry you around all night like this if you wanted me to!” He smiled down at you! You felt your face light up like a Christmas tree. No matter how big or small you were, Bokuto always made you feel like a princess.
“As much as I’d love you to, we gotta get this ball rolling.” You said as he gently placed you back on your feet. “I’ll be taking that.” You said snatching the camera from Atsumu who was smirking. He seemed to be hiding something from the way he was acting. He is definitely sus you thought. You waved the boys goodbye and made you way to the front of the crowd. You got the camera ready as the spotlight of the stage flickered on.
“Thank you all for coming out tonight! We hope you are ready to see the heartthrobs we have lined up for you!!” The announcer said setting the tone. “Valentine's day is all about love and being with one another. So if your single, ladies, pull those yen out and let’s get to business!” The crowd cheered and applauded as the auction began.
You didn’t pay much attention to the men coming on stage, your only worry was the last 4. You scrolled through the camera to see the pictures Atsumu took of you and Bokuto. Bokuto had such a wide smile on his face in the pictures, your smile was just as big, even though your face was full of panic in the one where he effortlessly picked you up. You’re pulled from your day dream when you heard the announcer’s voice.
“We have some special guests tonight from the MSBY volleyball team! We’ll start first with Miya Atsumu!” The announcer said as Atsumu walked on the stage like he owned it. He flipped his hair and looked at the group of women he serenaded earlier and blew them a kiss. You got lucky and snapped a picture of it, he may be annoying as hell but he knows how to get women. He had about ten women fighting over him, his bids kept going up and up. After a cutthroat battle he was sold for roughly  200,000 yen. He smirked and walked off the stage. You couldn’t help but chuckled to yourself, he’d be one of a kind if he didn’t have a twin.
“Up next we have Hinata Shoyo!” She said as the tangerine headed boy shly walked on stage. He looked confident for the most part and he thankfully went to the bathroom before this. He had on one of his classic charming but cute smiles. You could hear girls behind you talk about how cute he was. His skin was glowing under the spotlight thanks to the Brazilian sun. His bids went up high, he ended up being sold for 120,000 yen. He waved at the audience and bounced off the stage.
“Let’s welcome our next bachelor who just so happens to be the tallest one tonight, Sakusa Kiyoomi!” You watched on edge as Sakusa walked out, he didn’t seem nervous but he wasn’t all that interested either, he stood in the middle of the stage like a statue. To make matters worse he wasn’t smiling. You grabbed his attention for a moment and smiled as wide as you could and pointed at your face, you felt like one of the psychotic moms from toddlers and tiaras but you had to do something or he wasn't going to get any bids. You mouthed the words “Smile please” at him and he finally took the hint. He had an awkward but cute smile on his face finally. You relaxed a little and resumed taking pictures. His bids began to go up and quick. Sakusa looked at the exit of the stage and smirked at someone and turned his attention back to the crowd. You could only guess he was looking at Atsumu who was probably pissed at how high Sakusa’s bids were. Sakusa was sold for a whopping 500,000 yen. You know Tsumu’s ego was damaged beyond repair right now. Sakusa bowed and left the stage.
“Now let’s end this night right! We have one more contest so let’s welcome Bokuto Koutarou to the stage!” You felt your heart drop and the announcer said his name. You had to watch someone you loved dearly be bid off to some rich girl who would probably steal him away. You tried to knock away negative thoughts but you couldn’t help it. He looked sinfully good when he walked on stage. What nervousness he felt was gone and now it’s nothing but his overwhelming confidence. He carefully watched one specific area of the crowd. You snapped pictures of him (a lot of them being for your personal collection) as he walked around the stage flexing and showing off. His eyes met yours a lot and he seemed to be smirking at you. But his attention always went back to the one area of the crowd. You heard his bids go up, one particular girl was bidding for him like her life depended on having him. Her voice came from the direction he kept starting at. He looked nervous when anyone but her called out a bid. You began to get ate up with pure jealousy, you wish you could take him off the stage and run away with him right then and there. The bids kept going up and up and the girl that kept bidding on him got him for 150,000 yen. He looked ecstatic. He looked at you and smiled before he went off stage. Your heart dropped and you wanted to leave, but you still have work to do.
“That concludes the auction tonight! If you won you can meet up with your bachelor over here on the left.” The announcer pointed towards the group of men. You made your way to find the guys so you can take more pictures and let them know where you’ll be when they get done.
“You guys did awesome!” You said running up to them. They gave you a soft smile. You notice Bokuto was MIA. “Umm guys, where is Bo?” They hesitated for a second but your conversation was cut short as the boys dates for the evening came up.
“Sakusa was it?” A well dressed man walked up to the tall volleyball player. You noticed a small girl clutching his dress shirt. She couldn’t be any older than 8. “This is my daughter, she wanted someone to dance with her but in all honesty I’m trying to make some business deals while I’m here, keep her company for me.” The man patted his shoulder and slipped some extra money in Sakusa’s shirt pocket, leaving him slacked jawed.
“All the umeboshi your heart desires, a big box of the nice face masks you like, and whatever else you want, just please be nice to this poor girl. She looks sad.” You whispered into Omi’s ear trying to persuade him a little more.
“I didn’t come here to babysit, but I guess I can.” He said low enough that the girl couldn’t hear. Omi peered down at the small girl, she actually had moles on her face kinda like he does but on the opposite side.
“Umm hi.” She said looking up at the tall man. She seemed nervous. You nugged Omi in the side to get him to say anything.
“When was the last time you washed your hands?” He asked the girl and you could have choked him. The girl giggled at his statement.
“I wash my hands all the time! Look my mom even bought me this!” She pulled out a small key chain with a rabbit on it, attached was a small bottle of hand sanitizer. “Would you like some?” She said opening the cap. Sakusa held his hand as the small girl poured some into his hands and she gave herself some as well.
“Good.” Sakusa said, pulling his mask from his pocket to put it back on. The little girl grabbed his hand and dragged him to the dance floor. You knew this was way out of his comfort zone, but he was still doing it.
“Omg your hair is so cute! Can I touch it?” You whipped your head around to see a young bubbly girl talking to Hinata.
“Umm s—s sure.” He said nervously as the girl ran and hand through his hair. You couldn’t help but laugh a little. The poor baby seemed so embarrassed. The dance floor was filled with couples and the girl dragged Hinata to the dance floor before he could even get her name. You turned to Atsumu who looked like he had seen a ghost.
“Young man I’m getting my money's worth tonight so let's go dance.” An old lady who you thought resemble Baba Yaga from spirited away stood in front of poor Atsumu.
“Yes ma’am.” He said, forcing a smile.  He looked at you pleasing eyes that screamed “please save me Y/N”. You shook your head at him.
“Pay attention to me boy, I paid good money for you.” The old lady said whacking Atsumu with the cane she carried.
“Yes ma’am, sorry ma’am.” He said walking with the old woman to the dance floor. You had to turn your head and laugh, between Sakusa getting stuck babysitting a kid and Atsumu being stuck with a senior citizen after talking all that smack, it was priceless. You guess them ladies Atsumu talked to must not have liked him that much.
You searched around for Bokuto to make sure he got his date for the night, you were also curious who she was and how pretty she was. You felt that jealousy creep back on you. This was going to be a long night. You finally spot Bokuto talking to a drop dead beautiful girl, she looked familiar but you couldn’t quite place her. She and Bokuto seemed to be having a good time, she was laughing at something he had said. Your heart shattered. You look back up to see Bo making eye contact with you. All you could do was smile and get lost in the crowd before he could see the stray tear falling down your cheek. You needed to get outside for a bit, you felt like you were suffocating. You fought the crowd and finally made your way to the exit. You pushed the metal door open. The cold night felt good against your hot skin. You walked down a path in front of the building and tried to collect yourself.
“Another year alone and single.” You blurted out to yourself. You find a small bench and decide to sit down for a bit. The night sky brought a sort of comfort to you. The stars twinkled and the moon casted a peaceful light. The cold was getting to you but you were afraid to go back in. You mentally couldn’t handle it.
“PARKOUR.” You felt your soul leave your body as you saw a shadow jump over the bench you were sitting on. You flinched back ready to fight off the attacker only to be met with Bokuto standing in front.
“BO you scared me to death!” You said inhaling a deep breath and clutching your chest.
“I’m sorry my parkour was so awesome it scared you.” He said, taking his jacket off and draping it yet again around your cold body. Your nose flooded again with the scent of his cologne. It’s calmed you down in a bittersweet way. “But angel what are you doing out here, you’ll get sick if you're not careful.” He kneeled down a bit and pulled the jacket around your cold body more.
“I could ask you the same things Mr. Parkour, you have a beautiful woman in there waiting on you, so stop wasting your time on me.” You said trying to hold it together.
“Well I’m more concerned with the real beautiful one sitting right in front of me.” He said grabbing your shaking hands. Your eyes went wide with what he said.
“Bo I’m confused?” You said looking into his golden eyes.
“Well that woman you saw me with is not really my date, yes she did bid on me, but she was never my real date. She is actually the guy who owns our gym's daughter! She agreed to bid on me, but in return she wanted a date with Atsumu’s brother and he agreed to do it! The team helped me do this so I could be with you tonight, but I guess it didn’t go as smoothly as I planned. I’m sorry I made you sad.” Bokuto sat beside you on the bench,
“Bokuto are you low key confessing to me?” You looked over at him and he smiled and shook his head.
“Yes and let me do this properly.” He cleared his throat and held his hand out for you to grab, which you gladly accepted. “Y/N please let me be your date tonight and from here on out please!”
“So like boyfriend and girlfriend Bo?” You said wanting to make sure you got the message right.
“Yes Y/N, please be my girlfriend. All that flexin on the stage was for you baby!” He stood up and flexed again making you laugh. “But in all seriousness, I freakin love you. So what do you say Y/N?”
“Yes. I would love nothing mo-“ Bokuto cut you off by lifting your body into his strong arms. You giggled as he swung you both in circles. He slowed down and seen you finally smile again
“Now that’s a pretty sight, you're not going to be sad on my watch anymore. Now we better get back inside before we freeze to death!” Bokuto wrapped an arm around your shoulder as you two began to walk back. “Wait I have something for you!” He dug through his pockets and pulled out a small jewelry box and handed it to you. You opened it and there was a necklace with a small owl charm and a “B” charm next to it.
“Bo this is so cute! Can you help me put it on!” You said handing him the necklace. He struggled to get it on but finally got it. The silver was cold on your skin, but you didn’t mind at all.
“Omi actually helped me pick it out, believe it or not. He said if I would have went alone I would have got something stupid.” Bokuto said, sliding the jewelry box back into his coat pocket. You hate to admit it but Sakusa going was probably a good thing.
“Bo I really love it, thank you.” You said leaving up and kissing his cheek. “Now let’s go back, I’ve got to check in on everyone.” You walked into the ballroom with your arm hooked around Bokuto’s bicep.
You scanned the room to see if you could find any of the guys and the only one you could see was Hinata laughing with his date. They seemed to be hitting it off pretty good. “Bokuto let’s go get something to drink.” You both walked towards the bar, you see that girl who bid on Bokuto sitting next to Osamu. They both seemed to be having a good time.
“Thank you again! The planned worked Y/N is my girlfriend now!” Bokuto walked up to them and showed you off.
“I’m so glad!” The girl said, clasping her hands together. “You are a cute couple.”
“Speaking of a cute couple.” Osamu chimed in and pointed towards his brother Atsumu who was being dragged around by that old lady. “I may have given her some free Onigiri vouchers and a few hundred yen to bid on him.” The twin laughed at his brother's despair.
“Your evil, but I like it.” The girl said as they clinked their drinks together.
“You guys enjoy it, we still have to hunt for Omi.” You bowed and clung back on to Bokuto.
After circulating the ballroom a few times you finally find Sakusa and the little girl sitting at a table. Sakusa looked dead tired and the little girl was stuffing her face with cake
“Omi you look like a tired dad.” Bokuto said bursting out laughing at his teammate.
“I see your plan worked.” Sakusa said, looking at the necklace through tired eyes.
“Yes it did now this cutie is all mine.” Bokuto said peppering your cheek with kisses.
“How disgusting, when you grow up don’t date idiots like him.” Sakusa looked at the child who just nodded her head. It was hilarious to see Omi so out of his element. “That was directed at you Bokuto not Y/N.”
“Omi, he is a idiot but he is my idiot.” You patted Bokuto's back.
“Omi-Omi let’s go dance some more. I like this song.” The little girl tugged on his jacket.
“Fine.” Omi sighed and followed her dance floor.
“Now that we know everyone (for the most part) is okay let’s dance!” You said leading Bokuto to the dance floor.
You danced to every single song and Bo didn’t break anything when the cha cha slide came on. He swung you around all night without a care in the world.
“Let’s end the night with something nice and slow.” The Dj said putting on (Insert your favorite slow song)
“May I have this dance pretty girl?” Bokuto asked, holding his hand out to pull you closer to him.
“The Macarena may have wore me out, but I guess I have enough wind in me for one last song.” You teased wrapping your arms around his neck. He pressed a kiss to your forehead and began to slowly dance you around the room.
You see that little girl struggling to keep up with Omi’s big steps as he attempted to dance with her, he was at least trying you thought. Hinata was slow dancing with his date of the night, they both seemed comfortable and content with each other. Atsumu was still with that granny but he seemed to have accepted defeat as he danced around with her. Osamu danced with the gym owner's daughter and made it a mission to kick his brother when they got close enough, he even messed him up enough to cause the old to hit him with the cane again. You felt Bokuto's grip tighten and he dipped you down enough to finally kiss you on the lips. He pulled away and brought you back up to continue dancing.
“ I love you Y/N.” Bokuto spoke softly in your ear.
“I love you too.” You said as the song faded out.
“And one more thing Y/N” Bokuto said, leaning down to whisper in your ear. “I told you I would have the most beautiful girl here.”

Y/N and All Might were in their new house together, they had finally unfinished unloading all the boxes from the moving in truck. Y/N leaned on the counter of the living room, drinking a glass of water when suddenly All Might had received an urgent call from Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi. All Might went through a spectrum of emotions, from anger to guilt to anxiousness. His face paled, and his body shook a bit; finally, he turned to look at Y/N. He spoke in an apologetic tone, "Do you think you can hold off the dinner plans for tonight? I need to head to the police station, one of my students is… in a sticky situation right now..." He flashed her one of his brilliant smiles, "No need to worry though, it's nothing that I can't handle!"
Y/N set her cup down, only for it to crack. She stared at it and had a bad feeling. She chose to ignore it and proceeded to walk towards her lover. She gracefully cupped his cheek in one hand and leaned to peck his lips. "All that matters to me is that you come home safe. I'll be here," she whispered.
All Might’s gaze never faltered, and leaned in for another kiss, wrapping his arms around his lover’s waist “I’ll be back soon” and out he went to save the day.
Hours passed, and Y/N has not heard anything from Toshi. The homemade cooked dinner Y/N had left for her dear boyfriend was cold, sitting on the kitchen table untouched.
Y/N woke up in a cold sweat, her body shaking as she looked to her side and noticed that her man still was not back home. She looked at the time, and it was past midnight. She unlocked her phone with shaky hands, and the first thing she noticed was the news of All Might fighting All for One. Her breath hitched, and she started to watch the live news feed.
“DESTRUCTION! THEFT! EXPLOITATION! MANIPULATION! THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, JUST TRYING TO LIVE DAY TODAY! YOU LAUGH AT THEM, SCORN THEIR HARDSHIP, THOSE ARE THINGS THAT I CANNOT..." All Might move to punch All for one “FORGIVE!” he went and socked All for One while pinning down the villain with his left hand. Steam started to rise from his body 'my time limit…' All might thought.
Y/N gasped in horror as she saw the steam emitting from his body, knowing that he was severely injured, saw the blood, and sweat on her lover. She saw that he was half deflated. She recognized that pained look on his face. She did not know what they were saying but knowing her boyfriend and the situation wasn't anything pleasant.
All Might is pushed back, and he flies up in the air, heading towards the helicopters, but Grain Torino swoops in, grabbing All Might like he was a child, and placed him on the ground. A bit of shifting occurred, and the talking resumed. All for One went and punched All Might, and All Might was left in a weakened state. He was his usual scrawny self, but with many wounds, his arms battered, and his clothes barely holding themselves together. It seemed all the life of the symbol of peace was gone, it was a devasting sight for the world to see. All Might was no longer smiling.
Y/N was clutching at her phone tightly. Her heart was beating erratically, and she already knew how Toshinori looked at his standard form. After all, that's how she met him for the first time, not knowing it was All Might. Tears were streaming down her face.
"You promised me that you'll be back home soon," she choked out. No one was in the room with her as she continued to spoke "Our life is barely just starting…our life…our future…please honey…come back home alive” she was desperate.
She didn't know what else was going to happen, and here she was watching the love of her life be torn into pieces, on live television. She was at home, being utterly useless in a situation she cannot help. Y/n broke out into a cold sweat, her breathing became hysterical, as many intrusive thoughts swarm her brain, her vision blurred, and chills ran up her body. Her left hand clutched at her chest as she was in pain.
‘Toshi…Toshi…’ his name kept repeating in her head. ‘You need to calm down and breathe. Just breathe.’ She thought. She couldn’t speak as she tried to calm herself down, ‘have faith in him, he is the number 1 hero, and he can do it. He will survive,' she advises herself.
All Might bulk up his right arm and spoke to All for One “YOU’RE RIGHT, THERE’S SO MUCH WE HEROES HAVE TO PROTECT! AND THAT’S WHY WE DON’T LOSE!” all the surrounding heroes joined All Might, helping him in the background, giving him back up, and moving all the nearby civilians out of the way. There was an explosion and a cry “UNITED STATES… SMASH!” and another impact was heard. The land shook, and the smoke cleared out, revealing a broken bleeding All Might, with his right fist up in the air. He then faced the camera, pointing it and uttering out the words "You're Next."
Y/N immediately threw her phone onto the bed. She shoved the covers off her, ran into her closet, grabbed a random coat, and slipped onto her slippers. She grabbed her purse, phone, and keys, and rushed out the door. Dialing detective Naomasa, to find out which hospital her beloved would be staying in.
At the hospital, Y/N wasn’t allowed to see Toshinori immediately. She walked briskly in the waiting area, and a few of the nurses not believing that she was All Might’s girlfriend, thinking she was just another crazed fan. It wasn’t till detective Naomasa had told the nurses she was, indeed, the lover of All Might, and promptly led in. She burst into Toshi’s room and fell by his side.
There lay All Might, and he was bruised and scarred. He was bandaged from head to toe with a broken arm. He was shocked by the sudden loudness and appearance of Y/N. He immediately sat up "Y-Y/N!" his lover marched up to him and lightly threw her arms around him. She started sobbing onto the crook of his neck.
“Y-You idiot!” she bawled. All Might awkwardly held his girlfriend with his one arm, trying to calm her down frantically “H-Hey W-Why are you crying?! Are you okay?! Are you hurt?!”
Y/N pulled away from All Might slightly but had still kept him at arm's length. "Why am I crying?! Am I okay?! Are you out of your damn mind?!" she spoke angrily, her jaw was clenched, and tears streamed down her face. "The question is, are You okay?! I just saw you get beaten up on television!” she exasperates. She was in disbelief that he was asking about her safety; she took a deep breath.
“Honey, I’m fine. But you worry me so much. I’m only glad that you are alive and okay” she kisses his cheek and takes a seat in front of his hospital bed.
She pulls out a protein bar from her purse and shakily hands it to him "Here, you haven't eaten anything. You should get something in your system…" All Might's cheeks flush a light pink, as he glances at Detective Naomasa and Gran Torino, who looked at him with knowing grins. His focus goes backs to Y/N and gently takes the protein bar from her, and he gives her an awkward chuckle.
"I'm the number 1 hero, dying is the last thing that will be on my list."
Once All Might was discharged from the hospital, he was surprised to see that all the boxes from the moving truck were unpacked and unloaded. All their stuff was already placed around the house! He came to a beautiful home, where it was clean and smelled a lot like Y/N. She really did put that girlish feel into the house which he loved.
He thought that Y/N was utterly fantastic, unloading everything, and still manage to bring warm cook meals to him at the hospital, along with maintaining her job. His arm was broken, so whenever he needed help, Y/N was there, and she did a great job where he never felt babied. He felt blessed and loved as he knows that Y/N is doing her best to support him whenever she can.
They had already gotten to the routine where in the morning, Y/N likes to cook breakfast for the two. They both get ready in the morning, and off to work they go, he felt like they were newlyweds. Still, he always blushed at the thought. It was too early in the relationship to think about marriage, even though that's where it seemed to be headed in the future.
After having dinner, you and Toshi decided it was time to head for bed, as he had a class to teach in the morning. He wanted to help develop his student's quirk abilities. You were changing into your PJs, and All Might had his back facing you, -he, himself, changing into his own proper sleepwear. Once you finished, you cough awkwardly to let him know you were done changing, and you both crawled into bed.
You were stiff and tense as you laid to the side, and shifted toward him, as he pulled out a book 'how to teach and motivate students for DUMMIES'; you snorted once you saw what he was reading. Toshi looked at you, embarrassed. "I need to help my kids develop a special move, but I don't know how too," he admitted shyly.
You flashed him a smile, “Honey, all you have to do is be yourself and provide them encouragement without giving them the answer. Don't stress too much; they are smart, creative kids, and they'll soon find the answer," you responded.
Toshi’s gaze shifted away and mumbled out an "It is not that easy as your making it sound…"
You pressed your lips to the side of his cheek, and pulled away, speaking in a soft loving tone “I’m going to go to bed, Goodnight and get some rest, don't be up too late."
You got comfortable on your side of the bed. Except, and sleep never came to you. You were awake when All Might had turned off his lamp, put his book away, gave you a peck on the top of your head, which you found endearing.
You laid there in the dark, with your eyes close, remembering that when your friend spoke to you, her boyfriend broke up with her because she kept kicking him in sleep. Or that she snored too loudly, and that she spoke in her sleep and tended to sleep-walk.
You thought he was an asshole, and that he did not deserve your friend! You had many sleepovers with her before! She honestly didn't move that much, and you felt that he was exaggerating.
Your thoughts had shifted in, and you began to wonder how you slept at night. You grew paranoid, ‘Do I move a lot in my sleep? Do I hog all the blankets? Do I snore loudly? Oh god, what if I hurt Toshi, especially since he's injured,' you thought.
You knew Toshi, he wasn’t the type to break up with someone because they
were snoring loudly, but you couldn’t help the paranoia feeling of accidentally hurting him in your sleep.

Your alarm had pulled you from your thoughts, and you let out a deep sigh. You started getting ready for the day and headed into the kitchen to make breakfast for the day! You even decided to make Toshi a cute-looking bento. Luckily, you planned and had already prepped most of the ingredients at night, so it didn't take you long to prepare in the morning. You wrote a cute note, too, and placed it in the bento box with a cloth wrapping and set it to the side.
You were putting the pans in the dishwasher and cleaning the countertops when All Might showed up. He sniffed the air, "You didn't have to cook again," he spoke.
You can tell that he was grateful, as he was giving you a gaze with so much love that it made your heartthrob. "I didn't have too, but I wanted too," you replied back with a grin on your face.
“I also made you lunch for today! Who’s the best girlfriend~?” you sang.
All Might laughed “You, of course, and thank you for making lunch” he murmured as he wrapped his arm around you from behind, and kissed the top of your ears, to your head.
“Tonight, I'll help make dinner, and I'll help you set the table right now."
He pulled away from you and started putting out the plates and cups onto the table. He already knew how you liked your coffee (or tea) for the day. You walked towards the table, where you found Toshi, waiting for you. You both picked up your chopsticks "itadakimasu!” and started to dig in.
Toshinori sighed in content, exclaiming how delicious the food was.
All Might wasn't much of a cook, so he didn't eat homemade meals until you came along. When you found out that Toshi, mostly ate take out, you took it upon yourself to cook every day. Honestly, it was a hobby of yours, and you enjoyed cooking, it was something that you did with your mother when you were young. It was very satisfying when you had friends and love ones take a bite of your cooking, and they always exclaimed how they loved it.
You felt even more appreciated when Toshi started looking forward to your cooking. He also started asking to join you, trying to help you as much as he can. Trying out new recipes was always fun, and you loved teasing him! You never let him into the kitchen when cooking secret family recipes, as he’s not allowed to know your secrets!
A week has passed, and the same repetitive thoughts kept you up at night, worried that you might disturb Toshi’s sleep. You always felt tired and were sluggish in your movements, your eyes were puffy, and you had dark bags. You kept up with your extensive cooking every morning, lunch, and dinner. At work, you kept getting distracted and even doze off a few times in the job.
Your co-workers had begun to worry along with Toshi, as he kept trying to coax you to sleep. The other night he gave you a gentle back massage since his arm was now healed. No matter what kinds of methods you tried, you always woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. It got to the point where you started cleaning random areas in the house, and when Toshi would wake up, he would try to bring you back to bed, only for you to snap angrily at him.
Today was another night, and Toshi had decided to buy you some lavender bath bombs for you to try before bed. While you were in the bath, All Might had set up a humidifier that spewed out a Lavender and Chamomile scent. (He read online about aromatherapy), he pulled out a shopping bag, and out came a cute expensive pillow, he put your favorite [color] pillow sheets and had settled it on your side of the bed.
He stood back, marveling out the room, and wondering what else he was missing, and he pondered why he couldn't sleep. He felt awful that he was getting a good rest, whereas you couldn't wake up for the day without feeling cranky.
A Light bulb went off in his head, he had also gotten you another gift! He goes and gets another shopping bag, and as he does, you walk into the bedroom, look at the sight, the aromatherapy, the pillow, the bath bombs, and tear up at sight.
You notice, Toshi, walking next to you and handing you some fuzzy socks, "I read online that socks can help you sleep..?"
You noticed that they were brand new and start to sniffle.  All Might saw your teared-up face and started panicking, "Did you not like the color of the socks?!"
You start to laugh, which confused him even more. Were you laughing or crying?! Which is it?! Why are you distress?! Are you distress?! What is going on?!
"No, you dummy," you sniffled some more and threw your arms around him. "I'm just so grateful," you whisper.
Your voice starts to crack “You are doing so much for me, and trying all these kinds of things for me, so I can sleep, how did I get so lucky?” you ask.
All Might, pulls you close to your chest “I think the question is, how did I get so lucky?”
He kisses the top of your head. "I just want you to take care of yourself and get a good night sleep, you're always worrying about my health, but sometimes, you need to remember to take care of yourself too" He paused, "In fact, take care of yourself first, before worrying about me, okay?"
You visibly relaxed, as you leaned in his arms, "You know that I love you?"
You soon froze. YOU JUST BLURTED OUT THAT YOU LOVED HIM! You internally started panicking; it seemed natural to you that you didn't think about it.
All Might had tensed slightly when he heard your confession, but soon lifted you up in his arms as he briefly transformed into his buff form with a stupid grin on his face “No, I love-“
he had de-transformed and started coughing to the side, but still held on to you “I Love you too!” he blurted out with a heavy blush on his face.
You looked at him in bewilderment and started laughing, you were no longer unsure, and nervous. You truly felt loved, "shall we go to sleep, love~?" Toshinori continued to hold you in his arms, "We shall" and carried you to the bed.
You snuggled up to him in the bed and sighed happily, "Do you know what's stupid?"
All Might look down on you "What is?" he was massaging your scalp with his hand and was occasionally playing with your hair.
"I couldn't sleep because I thought I was going to hurt you in your sleep" you confessed, "and I thought I was a blanket stealer, or that I snored too loudly" you continued to ramble other thoughts that kept you up at night.
All Might had paused and tapped your cheek “I am the number one hero, you think you can hurt me?” he teased.
You huffed, "I did say it was stupid!" Toshi shook his head, "not stupid, my lover isn't stupid," he corrected you.
He chuckled a bit, "and Why do you need blankets to keep you warm when you have me?" he teased again.
You poked him in the face, "stop being cocky, Mr. Number One," you giggled.
Your confession was a weight lifted off your shoulders, and when Toshi had continued to massage your scalp, you soon drifted off to sleep, and not once did you wake up in the middle of the night.
Y/N and All Might laid in the extravagant bed together, all snuggled up with one another, the blankets wrapped around them. All Might’s arm was wrapped around Y/N waist, and his head laid on top of Y/N head, taking in her scent. The bright fuzzy socks were on the floor, forgotten.

White Flags and Bears
Day two of roughing it, and I was ready to throw in the towel. The boys had spent the night drinking, and all piled in around four am. Not only that, but they stunk up the tent with B.O and booze. As much as I loved them, I was ready for a peaceful night of hanging out as a group, clean, sober, and included.
Everyone else was still asleep around me. Kenma decided to make me his personal pillow during the night, latching his arms around my body. So my clothes recked of saki and sweat, typical gamer boy avoided all smoke that wafted onto the others. Thinking of smoke, they all needed a shower, but- I was going to get mine first.
Untangling myself from Kenma, I tossed my suitcase on the air mat and dug through the piled for some clothes to change into for the day. Or wear over my bathing suit more like it. While I packed enough for the trip, getting wet caused me to run through my pants faster than usual. If those boys had one more stray ball in the lake, I was going to scream.
"(Y/n)," Hinata stirred awake, sitting up abruptly. His hair puffed out as he looked around before settling on me.
"Shh, I'm going to shower. Go back to sleep." I motioned for him to lay back.
"Hold on." He got up, guiding me to stand behind him. He stepped outside like he was on a mission, which was odd.
"What's up, Hinata?" I slipped my flip flops on, clutching my clothes. He looked at the ground then around the campsite, his usual energy already active this early in the morning. Then I saw it.
On one of the high branches of a tree, my white granny panties hung like a flag. All the blood rushed to my head, a scream erupting. "Who did this?" I tossed my clothes onto the table. Lining myself under the tree, I jumped, falling an inch short of reaching them. The nightmare got worse as the wind picked up, rippling the cloth to its full width.
Laughter broke out from behind me. Tsuki and Yama fell from the tent, having a little chuckle. "I thought your undies were a perfect marker to make camp visible through the night." Tuski pushed up his glasses, sneering.
"Why would? I-" I stomped my foot and let out another cry of frustration.
"It was funnier when we were drunk." Kuroo frowned, looking at the earth as he slipped from the tent.
"I think it's still funny." Tsuki grinned, knowing he got me this time.
"Enough," Hinata yelled, jumping and yanking them from the tree with ease. He balled them in his hand, and my face got hotter. "I'm sorry (Y/n)." Hinata placed them in my hand. "They are very practical and-uh cute."
"Bro, you can't say that." Kuroo slapped his head, then grabbed Yamaguchi and Tsuki, pulling them back in the tent. "We're going to sleep in a little longer. Hinata, hurry back to bed." They shut the flap, and I could hear their whispers until Kenma growled, and they quietened down.
"Wait." The air grew hotter as the sun came up. It was just Hinata and me in the middle of camp... "That's not the wake-up call I wanted." My shoulders relaxed, taking a deep breath. Standing there, I played with my fingers. "You should get some more sleep. I'm sure you consumed more than your fair share of saki." Bouncing on my heels, I tried to kill the silence.
"No." He shook his head. "I need to go with you! For safety reasons."
"Why? It's not that far of a walk. You've already done me a favor by getting these down." I swung my undergarments around my finger; there was no reason to be shy now. They were just my undies. It only felt like a big deal because of the shock.
"Uh-I need to check for bears." He buzzed around, looking between the trees. Twigs crunched under his feet as he looked high and low, walking towards our shower house. "Yea, we need to be careful."
"What would you do if we find one?" I pushed my hair back, clutching my towel to my chest. It was rare that I spent alone time with Hinata. During training camps, he always played with Kuroo, Tsuki, Akaashi, and Bo. That's actually how we were introduced. A stray ball almost hit the ginger, and I swooped in, just in time. Still, we were always in a group, playing ball or going for ice cream or beers.
He stopped, holding his chin in thought, tapping his foot. "I'd fight it so you could run away."
"You'd be better off letting it have me." I teased, but I knew in my chest that I'd be too slow to outrun a bear, even if Hinata sacrificed himself. It'd be better if I were the one fighting the bear. Great, thinking about bears when in the woods isn't the most comforting thought. "Would you really fight a bear for me?" I tried to shake off the anxiety; there weren't any bears near us. We'd never seen so much as a paw print.
"I like you." He stiffened up, "I mean, I would fight a bear for my friends. Not that you're just a friend!" He almost kept going before Tsuki popped out of nowhere. As if he had been hiding in the trees like Slenderman...he did look like Slenderman. That was a worse thought than a bear lurking.
"You can't just sneak around." I nearly dropped my clothes, spinning on my heels. "Haven't you done enough damage this morning?"
"This dumbass gets cranky without a nap." Tsuki grabbed Hinata's shoulder and dragged him back towards the tent. "He's always a mess when he wakes up. Ignore him (Y/n)." Tsuki kept a hand over Hinata's mouth, muttering. "Trust me when I say I'm running damage control."
"Okay." I blinked, seeing more shapes in the dimly lit shrubs, as they hurried back towards camp. Something was slightly amiss. Plus, they left me alone after talking about bears; this wasn't panning out in my favor.
Walking to the shower area, we set up yesterday; I was ready for a cold rinse to remove any leftover lake scum. Kicking a painted rock in the path, I made sure no one would walk over where while I got cleaned up. Water rained from the nozzle on the bag, and I flinched at just how cold it had got last night.
"Cold, cold, cold," I muttered, easing into the stream. Settling into the flow, I washed up, rubbing my muscles as I went. My forearms were so sore from nonstop volleyball, but it wasn't the end of the world. I was just glad to be spending time with my friends. Plus, it was nice getting to know Hinata more.
Scrubbing my chest fast as possible, I could feel my heart skip a beat. Hinata was a nice boy. It was easy to say that about a few people, but he really knew how to make friends. While we had been on several trips together, this was the first one overnight in the same room. It might have been frowned upon, but I couldn't help but watch him sleep over Kenma's shoulder. I'd never put much thought into his features, but he was handsome. Maybe it was because of his height that I hadn't noticed before, but his smile was breathtaking. Plus, he was willing to fight a bear for me and save me from further embarrassment…
Banging my head against the tree holding up the shower bag, I chewed my bottom lip. He and I were base level; there was no reason I'd ever want to consider him as a soulmate. We all used to ask who'd we pick to be our soulmate at sleepovers as children, and it was just fun and games. I hadn't played in years, but I know that Hinata would have never crossed my mind before this trip. There was a reason for that. I just didn't understand why it had changed so suddenly.
Still, he said he'd fight a bear for any of his friends. But we aren't just friends? It was just him being sweet, and it only took a little speck of interest to light a fire in my chest. Like always, I made it harder on myself. It was just a groggy morning encounter, nothing else.
Getting dressed, I couldn't push the exchange from my mind. Letting out a long, deep sigh, I commenced the walk back to camp. It didn't matter what happened after this trip; I'd only see him every now and again. He was a pro volleyball player. He didn't have time to worry about playing around with me. His slip of tongue earlier was just that—a slip. Tsuki affirmed as much.
"How's the shower?" Bo meet me halfway, a piece of bacon dangling from his lips. "You know, Hinata and I put it together. I think it's pretty nice. Right?"
"It was great, a little cold, but it got the job done." I yawned, yearning to go back to bed. Bo puffed his chest and went to tell Hinata the great news of their successful project. Looking around, I saw Tadashi and Kuroo were cooking up breakfast. I was going to pester the two but was caught by someone else.
"You ready for the game today?" Akaashi stepped back from the fire pit with a plate. "I know it's been hard on you getting all those stray balls from the river." He grabbed a water from the cooler and brought it to me.
"I'm tired. I honestly might just play awhile and come back for a nap. Waking up early doesn't work in my favor very often." I wiped the gunk from my eyes, noticing the circles under Akaashi's orbs.
"That's fair. You do need a little break if you can get one." He needed some rest too, but telling him, that would be futile.
"Maybe I'll bring my hammock and stretch out while you play." If I brought my hammock, I could coax him into it for a nap.
"That would be fun. You could get some reading done as well." Akaashi nodded. How was he still thinking about school?
I stretched, fixing myself a plate and sitting by Kenma. Hinata was on the other side of the bottle blonde, and I held my breath before I asked him something stupid. There was no reason to freak out; just eat. Like any other day or encounter, I just need to be polite and let him approach me. My jaw tightened, and I couldn't help but glance at him from the corner of my eye. He was looking back. Dropping my fork, I dove my head into Kenma's shoulder.
"(Y/n). I’m trying to catch a fish." Kenma sighed, adjusting to focus on playing animal crossing.
"Can't we go catch some real fish?" I sat up, gluing my eyes forward. So Kenma could cuddle me all night but didn't care about my cuddles during the day.
"We can if you want to." Kuroo joined our circle, adding some toast to my plate. "Kenma, put that damn game away and eat. You can play later."
"My grandpa taught me how to fish. I'm going to catch the biggest one! Just wait and see!" Hinata vibrated as he declared his future victory. So he was listening to our conversation...I was catching something...and it wasn't fish.
"I'd like to see you reel in a monster short stack." Kuroo ruffled wild his hair before sitting beside me. "Oi, what's your game plan for tonight, (Y/n)?"
"What do you mean?" I faced Kuroo, batting my lashes at him. Looking at Kuroo was easier than making eye contact with Hinata. The shortie was boring holes in the side of my head. I nearly forgot how to breathe.
"It's boys night." Kuroo sighed, jaw tense, "you forgot already."
"No," I sat back, facing the fire. "I just didn't know what you were talking about." My lips trembled, all my thoughts went radio silent. Knots formed in my chest, tethering me to the moment as it passed slowly.
"I guess I'll just walk around the lake or something." They had a boy's night yesterday as well, but I didn't realize excluding me was part of the trip. It was fine. "I know it's important to hang with the boys. It's so rare you all get together anymore." Even rarer that I got to join.
"I hate to do that to you two nights in a row," Kuroo focused on his feet. Looking around, Bo, Akaashi, and Tadashi were frozen to their seats, waiting for me to respond. Even Kenma tensed against me.
"Hey, it was my job to convince my friend to come, and they backed out. I know you all need some bonding time to talk about all that gross boy shit." I laughed it off, forcing the sides of my lips to stay up.
"It's not your job. I promise tonight is the last one." Kuroo held my hand, but it was colder than usual. "If it would be fun for you, we'd let you come."
"I know." I pushed my plate aside, standing up. "Well, I'm going to the restroom."
"(Y/n)." Tadashi shot up. "You can come if you want. We can wait for another trip."
"No, it's okay. I mean, we're about to spend all day together. It's just a few hours for the bros. I promise I just need to tinkle." I assured him, his worried features blurred by the smoke.
Without putting much thought into it, I walked opposite the designated potty area, towards the lake. I could make the argument I was watering the fish, but I just wanted to breathe. If they wanted to determine what was or wasn't fun for me, that was fine...
Perhaps I was just thinking about Hinata this morning, to ignore the real reason I woke up before them. They stayed up drinking and howling at the moon. Boys' night was something they had planned since Bo and Akaashi joined our trip roster. It wasn't even really about being boys, but more so volleyball players. I knew they talked about their old games, current teams, and who would be chosen for the Olympics. Then, I was sure the conversation would take a turn into topics that would make it hard for me to look at my childhood friends.
No one said it in front of me. But I knew that Kenma had a fling with someone that wasn't his soulmate. The notion had never crossed my mind; he was so into his games most of the time. I never imagined him having pre soulmate sex. It happened at a gaming convention in the states. One of his favorite YouTubers had taken an interest in him and tracked down his booth. Flings weren't unheard of, and they were becoming less taboo. Some people had to wait until they were forty to find their soulmates, and that made it hard to stay "pure." But Kenma just never seemed to be interested in that sort of thing.
Gripping my wrist, I squatted in some bushes and let a few tears slip. It was fair to give them time alone. I would have girl time if I had my friend. It just hurt for them to do it again tonight. Maybe they'd sleep in and be too sick to play ball. Then we could all snuggle up and watch the clouds or the stars. It's not that I didn't like volleyball. I just wanted to spice it up as a group. To feel closer.
Kicking a rock, I wiped my eyes and crumbled back to the ground. I wasn't ready to be strong and put on a brave face. Pretending to be unbothered was hard work that I didn't plan to do this weekend. It was supposed to be Kuroo, Kenma, and me. It just grew into a volleyball camp when we invited Bo. And just like back at our training camps, I felt left out.
"It's too early to cry." I kept wiping my eyes until the tears stopped. With my irritated skin, I knew I had spent too long away from the others. I wanted to get a grip. Plus, it wasn't a big deal. I didn't need to communicate my needs or accept their compromises. No, everything was peachy...only babies cry over this kind of thing.
After returning to the group, we acted as if nothing had happened. Picking up my plate, I pushed the food around and listened to the boys whisper amongst themselves. It was more isolating now that no one was talking to me. Not even Kuroo would meet my gaze. My oldest friend was afraid of upsetting me, great.
___
Once breakfast was finished, we walked to the river and set up the net for the day. I worked on spreading out our seats, and Hinata rushed to help me.
"Let me," he took the pile of folding chairs and let me unfurl them one at a time.
"Thanks," my heart fluttered, and I wanted nothing more than to rip it from my chest. Deep down, it was just a distraction. It was just a coping skill.
"I think you look gorgeous." He dropped a chair, hitting his toe. "Ow ow ow," he flinched, holding his foot, dropping the rest of the stack.
"Idiot!" Tsuki picked him up by the scruff of his shirt and shook him a bit. "Did you learn anything from yesterday?"
"I did!" Hinata thrashed around. "I learned a lot!"
"That's not how you hold the chairs." Tadashi joined, then picked up the stack. "You pinched your finger, didn't you, Hinata?"
"No, I." Tuski shook him again. "Yea, I pinched my finger. See how red it is." He was set down. "Hey, (Y/n), will you kiss my finger better?"
Tsuki slapped the back of his head, dragging Hinata towards Kuroo, who was tying up the net. Hinata was really slipping today, he was accident-prone, but he rarely got hurt. It was even more strange for Tsuki to be up his ass.
"So, how you feeling about tonight?" Tadashi took over, helping me with the chairs. He changed the topic so fast; I nearly forgot what happened.
"I'm not feeling great," I paused my work, "but it's not the end of the world." Wiping the sweat off my forehead, I frowned.
"This weekend was supposed just to be you, Kuroo, and Kenma, but we kind of flipped it upside down." Tadashi sighed, scratching his scalp. "I hate you feel left out."
"Don't sweat it, Tadashi." I set out the last chair, getting ready for another grueling day of volleyball. "I'm not fragile. You can make it up to me tomorrow and go kayaking with me."
"You can count on it." He grabbed my hand, gently squeezing.
"Let's get started!" Bo yelled, grabbing the ball. And the infinite sets began.
___
We were in the middle of the last set. As much as I enjoyed volleyball, it was hard to appreciate when Kenma kept sending the ball to Hinata. Sure the two didn't get to spend a lot of time together, but I wanted my turn at some point.
"Stop pouting, Kitty." Kuroo reached under the net and poked my cheek. "You'll get one soon."
"It's illegal to touch the wildlife." Tsuki snickered, covering his mouth like it made it any less snide.
"Hush up, Tsuki," I shot back, trying to get ready for the next round.
"Serve." Tadashi sent the ball over with a jump float. Tsuki caught it with ease, sending it to us. As every game had gone so far, Tsuki directed it to my side, and I received, barely. Regardless of the pattern, I still couldn't shake the anxiety of where the ball would go. It was more fun for me to spike and serve.
Without looking, I heard Hinata cheer, scoring our winning point. The win didn't belong to me in the way I wanted it to. Kenma was usually more in tune with my feelings, but the past two day's he'd focused on spending time with Hinata. Was I so out of touch with my friends they didn't want to spend time with me? Yesterday, I couldn't get any time with Kuroo or Kenma in less a ball or video game was involved. Today was even worse.
It was fine. Usually, I'd hang with Kuroo and Bokuto when Kenma was busy. However, they were too busy pranking Akaashi whenever he tried to do homework. Or they all three spent time prepping the drinks for their "boys night."
I could have tried to hang with Tsuki and Yamaguchi, but they were too busy trying to get some alone time, not just for the boys, but for each other. Sure they were entitled to that, but I wish they'd save it for when they were at home. So that left me alone most of the time.
We broke down the net for the evening. My heart already trying to prepare for night two of making flower crowns or playing in the lake-alone. There was enough sun left out I could try to soak up some vitamin D and maybe photosynthesizes some serotonin. But my prospects were looking bleak.
"Time for the Boys." Kuroo wrapped his arm around Kenma and pulled him over to Bokuto. They began to follow Akaashi, who was headed towards one of the nearby trails.
"Be safe," I called after them, almost hoping they'd invite me to join them. "Reapply bug spray!" I added, cupping my mouth to be louder. "Uh, drink some water."
"You too." Bo hollered back, almost tripping over his feet. Tsuki grabbed him and tugged him along without a word. Tadashi took our cooler and was toting it up the trail. He looked at me once more before the brush got too thick, his pity palpable.
"Bye." My arms dropped to my side. In a few moments, everyone has disappeared. Dread set up shop in my stomach, and I decided to make the most of it. Settling into the sand by the shore, I rested my feet in the water. I tried to smile. It's not that I had bad friends. They included me in almost everything they did, and we spent all morning and afternoon playing volleyball. Still, it didn't feel right. Being left alone by the lake just seemed like a bad idea. It was great that they trusted me, but I wanted to be part of the action. Or at least not alone.
Grasping at a fist full of sand, I squeezed it as tight as I could. Letting the grains slip through my fingers, I thought about the happy moments. Like when Kuroo and Kenma and I were on a team, I got lots of balls. While the last team I was on was okay, I didn't get a single spike. It was partly because Kenma was fed up with Kuroo gloating about winning, and partly because Hinata' kept calling for them.
Resting my head against my arms, I realized how tired I was getting. Maybe I'd just turn in early and forget about it, I didn't get the nap I planned for earlier. Mybe now was the best time. It was peaceful enough with most of the boys off in the woods. I could have the bed to myself before they all piled in, smelling like booze again.
"Hey, (Y/n)." I winced, before I realized that Hinata had sat beside me. "You look like you could use some company." He sat down with two fishing poles and a small bucket of bait in his hands.
"I would love some company." Setting back into the sand, I stretched my back, rubbing the water droplets from my eyes. He was so sweet. "Great game today." I pushed my hair in front of my face and closed my eyes. The fluttery sensation returned to my stomach, and I wondered why he didn't go after the boys? But I didn't dare mention it in case he just forgot.
"Your receives were amazing." He slapped my back a few times before leaving his hand between my shoulder blades. "The way you dig is impressive too. I would have thought you played your whole life." He smiled brightly, removing his hand to hold his neck. Maybe my shirt was clinging to my sweaty back, and it soaked his hand?
"Not quite. It does mean a lot that a pro thinks I have some skill." Baiting my line, I tried not to think about the worm slime wrapping around my fingers.
"Let me," Hinata waited for me to agree before he set up my pole. "Do you want me to cast it too?"
"Oh, I haven't' done it in a long time. So I'll let you get the first one." The pink sky reflected on Hinata's form, casting him in a beautiful glow. Rearing back, he cast the line towards some fallen trees and handed me the pole. "Thank you."
"You got it gorgeous!" His voice rang over the water and carried through the trees.
Tugging at my shirt, I gripped the fabric tight as I could. My looks weren't bad, I was harder on myself than anyone else. Being plus size came with a lot of anxiety and judgment. There wasn't much I could do to change the stigma or my looks. But it wasn't helping that it was harder to buy clothes that made me feel good. Maybe my underwear was old fashioned, but they fit without crawling into places they didn't belong. And my t-shirts were plain, but they were just baggy enough to hide the parts I wasn't confident in. If I could dress better, I'd feel more worthy of such a compliment.
Plus, sweating like a stuck hog wasn't helping me either. The few cute clothes I had, were now at the bottom of my suitcase and in need of a wash. It didn't matter how much my stomach erupted in butterflies looking at Hinata, I felt like a potato sack. Plus, there was no way he was being anything more than friendly with me. Even if I wanted to believe him and flatter myself.
"You okay, (Y/n)?" He cast his line, sitting closer to me, laying his pole to the side. "Was it something I said?"
"I'm just- being hard on myself, that's all." I pulled at my shirt, trying to make it lay like a tent.
"Why?" His innocent voice carried like a song over the lake, ringing in my ear.
"Well, I know I'm beautiful and wortyh of love and compliments. But some days, I don't feel like that's true." Something came over me; how was I suppose to make him understand what it was like to be plus-size? "Maybe I've had more days like that recently, where I'm just feeling down about my looks and fashion. It feels like I'm not worthy of the extra space I take up. Not to mention boys' night makes me feel like I don't belong at all." My face grew hot. "But, that's not fair to unload on you. I’m sorry."
"That sounds hard. I'm glad you can share that with me." He held his chin before grabbing my hand. "So does it make you feel worse when I compliment you? Because I want to do it more, but only if you like it."
"Ahsd," I sputtered, my throat closing up as he shoved his head in my personal bubble. "Ugh, Hinata."
"Shoyo." He corrected me, peering into my eyes. "Call me Shoyo, if you want to, that is. It's not fair we all use your first name, and you don't get to use ours."
"This is out of the blue." His line went tight, and he grasped it before it was dragged into the lake. I was saved by a fish.
"Stand up." We both got up, I helped him balance on the sand as he began to fight the fish and set the hook. "Here." He turned to me.
"No it's your- oh." He handed me his pole, and I could feel the weight drag me forward. His hands steadied me as I had done for him. My body rocked with adrenaline, the rush overcoming me. I’d never felt so much raw power.
"You got this, (Y/n)!" He reeled in my pole, so slackline wouldn’t tangle with the fish.  My hormones were doing a summersault, dejection, joy, self-doubt, then pure bliss .
"I've never had one this big," I grunted, reeling in the slack, the tip of the pole snapped back and forth as the fish got closer to shore. "Are you sure you don't wanna reel this one in?" I lost my footing in the sand. Hinata grabbed my waist, steadying me.
"I'm sure." He let go and started to take pictures of me in the sunset, reeling in a monster. "You're a natural (Y/n)."
"You know, what, you can keep complimenting me Sho." I was losing my breath, walking the fish away from the fallen trees. "I want to believe that you really think that about me."
"Of course I do." His eyes glowed with the first stars that were starting to be visible. "I won't distract you right now, though."
"Good call." I gritted, knowing the fish was close to the surface. My arms were burning, and my knees locked; this was the fish of a lifetime.
"I can see it! It's a catfish." Hinata set his phone aside and jumped into the water. "I'll get it for you." He slid his hand in its mouth, the fish thrashing around. I held it up high with the pole, but i noticed Hinata's arms. They were muscular, not in the same way as a bodybuilder, yet toned and defined. The moon was shining on the droplets on his skin, and like an ethereal being he emerged from the water. "Come on, stupid fish, let me take a picture of you with my soulmate."
"What?" I came out of my arm candy haze, Hinata dragging the fish to land and holding up, at least a thirty-pound catfish
"Come on and hold him (Y/n), his mouth feels like sandpaper, so be careful.” I switched positions with him, the snadpaper bar on the fish clamping on my fingers. I shivered, but held him up with a huff. “We have to use the flash to get a good pic, so be ready. I don’t want to blind you." He wiped off his hands and pulled his phone out. His skin was tore from the fish’s mouth where he had brought it in. My head ached for him; he was so kind and selfless.
The fish gnawed on my hands, the rough texture sending a shiver down my spine. "This would be a feast for a bear." I laughed, posing with the fish in a few ways.
"No doubt about that. You're a true fisherman (Y/n); I’m impressed with your skills," he turned and took a selfie.
The moon was fully visible through the trees, and my back began to itch. I tried not to pay too much attention to it, but Hinata noticed. "Do you feel it?"
"Feel what?" I handed him the fish and took his picture and another selfie. We both got into the water and held it until it got it's strength back. Shoyo was quiet for a few moments, waiting for me to say something else. “Should I feel something?”
"Your mark." His eyes glowed as he reached his hand forward, cupping my face.
"My soulmark, or a beauty mark??" The fish took off, back into the depths of the lake, splashing us with the flick of it’s tail.
"So you haven't noticed yet," he lit up, yanking off his shirt and twirling around. “So you didn’t outright reject me.” He flashed me his back. My name was scrolled across his shoulder, and it wasn’t washing off the water. "I'm your soulmate." He bounced back around. "I thought you noticed last full moon and rejected me. It's not the normal spot for one to show up, but it's true. We’re soulmates." He pulled his shirt back down, bouncing on his heels.
"Really?" I reached in my bra and handed him my phone. "Take a picture for me." Instead of lifting up my shirt, I pulled my collar down so he could snap a photo.
"See." Indeed, his name was on my shoulder, in a messy font. He held his neck again, "so do you accept me?" He tossed my phone to shore gently.
"I was getting a crush on you during this trip. I thought something was different between us this time, and I guess this was it. You and I never get any alone time, so it was weird. But I liked it, and I'm excited to spend more time with you." He took my hands. "So you're not rejecting me either? Even though I don't have half the confidence, you have?"
"Reject the most beautiful person on this planet? Sounds like a mistake to me." He pulled me closer in the water, squeezing my hands tighter. "Anytime you need a little boost, I'll be there to support you! That's my privilege as your soulmate, and I want to make sure you see yourself, how I do." He let go of one hand and cupped my face, wiping away a tear. "You're even a pretty crier."
"Shoyo." My throat closed up, and my knees dipped a little. "I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything you don't want to." He wrapped his arm around my waist slowly. "Can I kiss you?"
"I'd-, I’d like that." Leaning down, our lips met in a quick peck before crashing in a deeper kiss. His hands played with my hair, and I traced the muscles on his arms. Our bodies exploring all the ways we could melt together into one.
When he pulled back, a whine slipped past my lips. I covered my mouth in horror, but he didn't seem to notice. His pupils were huge, and his body was shaking with elation. Bouncing up, he placed kisses all over my face, working his way around like a clock hand.
"Just wait, we're going to have so much fun." he towed me out of the water, his feet sliding on the sand. "When you have bad days where you don't feel like you belong or you don't feel pretty. Let me know. I'll try to squish them for you. If not, we can play volleyball or fish or whatever you want to do, to feel better. I promise to be the best soulmate ever." When I got to slipper sand, he was the perfect anchor helping me to shore.
“Hinata, I mean, Shoyo. I’m so happy to have you.” He hugged me close, peaking a kiss to my lips.
“Not as happy as I am, after a month of waiting, I was about to explode all day.” He handed me my phone and gathered our supplies. “Let’s go back to camp and warm-up.”
“Yea, I like that idea. I don’t think we’ll catch anything better than that tonight.” I grabbed his scuffed up hand. “Thank you for letting me catch him and for bringing him in.”
“It was worth it to see you smile.” He held his head high. “You look so cute when you smile.”
“Sho, you’re making me blush.” I bumped his shoulder, and we shared a laugh.
I was sure of one thing, and that I wouldn’t have a dull moment with Sho. Nor a moment where he didn’t make me feel like the light of his life.
Bonus:
"Wait a minute." We were drying off by the campfire, waiting for the others to return. "If you knew I was your soulmate for over a month, why did you wait so long? And who else knew."
"Well, I told Tsuki and Yamaguchi first, and they knew about this trip. So when we got together last night, I told them all." Hinata wrung out of his shirt, my name clear as day on his back. "They decided to help me tell you."
"So you all weren't excluding me, but plotting a way to tell me that we were soulmates?" I raised my brow, thinking back to how strange everyone had been acting. "Next time, don't beat around the bush." I curled into my knees.
"No, no, no," he wrapped his arms around my upper body. "Listen, I tried to tell you right away, but Tsuki and Kuroo said you would think it was a prank or something. So I needed to get closer first." He lifted my face with both hands. "I'm so sorry I made you feel left out."
"I wouldn't have believed you; they were right." I sunk into my knees. "Still, I'm going to have a word with them."
"A word with who?" Kuroo popped out of the brush, alcohol on his breath.
"With you Rooster Head." I untangled myself from Hinata and chased Kuroo around the fire pit.
"Oh, you figured it out. I'm sorry, ahh" I tossed a stick at him playfully, my angry washing away. "I'm so sorry, my baby." He slowed down and opened his arms. "Forgive me?"
Thumping his chest with my palm, I sunk into his embrace. "Don't do that ever again."
"I won't." He squeezed the air from my lungs. "Hey, now you have your soulmate, you can rub it in as payback."
"No, that's no fun for anyone....well maybe I'll tease Tsuki about it." I laughed, sitting by Hinata. The others emerged from the trail, and cheers broke out.
"Hey hey hey, he did it!" Bokuto howled at the moon.
"(Y/n). I’m sorry for not setting for you earlier." Kenma sat beside me, laying his head on my shoulder. Hinata cuddled up on my other side. "I wanted to let Shoyo show off. Tomorrow I'll set for every time."
"We all owe you an apology," Tadashi held out a beer, and I took it. "Are you in the mood to party with us?"
"Um," they all looked at me with puppy eyes, spare for Tsuki, who was looking at Sho with the proudest smirk I've ever seen. "Sure, let's celebrate tonight! Not only did I find my soulmate, but I caught the biggest fish I've ever seen."
"We took pictures too?" Hinata pulled out his phone and began to flip through. "Oh, no."
"Oh, no, what?" I looked at his screen, seeing the photos were all black. "Noo, it was the biggest fish I'd ever seen."
"Wait, there's one." Hinata showed me the selfie we took with the front-facing camera. Only part of the fish was visible, but it was something.
"We're so cute." I gushed, focusing more on Sho, his wide grin and eyes focused on me.
"We are." Sho pressed a kiss to my cheek.
"Eww, no kissing my best friend in front of me." Kenma pulled me towards his side.
"Hey, shes' my soulmate; it’s not like we were making out again."
"You made out?" Kuroo pulled his hair.
"Woah, nice one." Bokuto cheered, and Akaashi intercepted before Bo and Kuroo started to wrestle.
"Don't encourage them." Kuroo pawed at Bo through Akaashi's block.
"Y'all are so drunk." I sighed, downing my beer in one swig. "New plan, we're all going to lay down and look at the stars. To make the past two days up to me, we're going to play two games max and spend the rest of the day together just catching up, making flower crowns, fishing, or whatever comes to mind."
"Sounds good to me." Bo laid on his back and looked at the sky.
"Over here, you can use me as a pillow." Shoyo laid by Bo and held his out arm. I laid in his arms, and he pulled me, so my head rested on his chest.
"I have a feeling the rest of this trip is going to be amazing," I mumbled so he could hear me, his fingers scratching my back.
"Of course, it's our first trip together."He looked at the others laying down in a row. In the dark, he kissed my forehead and pretended like he didn't just move.
Closing my eyes, I imagined getting to sleep next to him every night. Waking up and going to cheer him on during his games, even trusting him with my insecurities. It was like his arms were a comforting blanket, holding me to the reality that I was loved. It's all I had wanted, and now it was mine.

~Story~
“Why did I ever agree to let you pick me up?” Your hand was gripping the support bar In Atsumu’s car for dear life.
“Because you love me and you know I’d get lost without my lovely Y/N.” Atsumu gave you a goofy smile as he shifted the gears.
“First off I’m your manager, second can you please go the speed limit. I’d like to make it to this charity event alive and in one piece.” You looked over to see him giving you a devilish smirk.
“You said we were late, therefore I’m making up for the lost time.” You rolled your eyes at him, but knew he was right.
“Maybe I should have let Omi take me, at least he would have driven the speed limit.” You said smirking at the setter.
“Oh yeah? Well yer stuck with me, besides I play good music.” He spun the volume button on the console all the way up. ‘This is what you came for’ started to boom through the speakers.
“Baby, this is what you came for Lightning strikes every time she moves And everybody's watching her But she's looking at you, ooh, ooh-” His thick accent attempted to sing along. You couldn't help but break out laughing.
“Tsumu I love you, but there is a reason you're a setter and not a singer.” You turned the music down so he could hear you.
“So you do love me?” He whipped his head to look at you. Your face ran hot, but panic came right with the rush of heat.
“Umm-TSUMU WATCH THE ROAD.” You screamed as he swerved a bit. Your hand found refuge yet again on the support bar. “Thank God we're almost there, you're an awful driver. Maybe worse than Bo.”
“I was kind enough to offer you a ride since your car is messed up and this is the thanks I get.” Your car’s transmission decided to go out, leaving you without transportation until it was fixed. But it ended being a blessing and a curse. Blessing being you get to hang with Atsumu alone and not to mention how sexy he was driving the standard shift. Curse being he was a crappy driver and your transmission broke your savings account.
“In all seriousness thank you Tsumu, you're the best.” You knew you were feeding his ego by saying that, but you were truly grateful. But he didn’t speak or even give you one of his normal cheeky comments. You looked over to see his cheeks glowing red,. You wish you could take a picture of the blushing athlete, but the venue was the next turn off.
“Tsumu, turn left at the next light.” You could see the huge venue center, the picture you saw online didn’t do the justice.
“You really sound like a GPS Y/N. Cute.” He turned the wheel with one hand and pulled into a parking spot.
“You have reached your destination.” You tried to imitate a GPS voice, but failed.
“I hear ya, wait here.” Atsumu unbuckled and hopped out of his car. You sat confused but then realized he was coming to open the door for you. He opened your door and offered you a hand which you gladly took.
“What a gentleman. Tsumu you're spoiling me.” You could get used to this side of him.
“No fair, Omi didn't open the door for me.” You turned your head to see Bokuto pouting.
“You're lucky I even drove you here, quit pushing it.” Sakusa rolled his eyes. “That goes for you too.” He then shot a death glared at poor Hinata.
“Okay guys less fighting more walking, Now pick those feet up, I need to meet with the event coordinator!” You lead the boys towards the venue. It reminded you of a  Roman colosseum. It was stunning.
“Wow this place is huge! I bet there's a lot of people in there!” Hinata looked up at the venue it awe.
“How dreadful.” Sakusa  said, adjusting his facemask. You had to beg him to come. After a little persuading he finally said yes.
“You already agreed to come Omi, please don’t back out now.” You pouted at Sakusa, causing him to roll his eyes. “Besides we’re already here.” You pointed at the large doors that led into the venue. They all looked excited to be here (Minus poor Sakusa).
“I know yer just itching to letcher us. I can tell by the look on your pretty face.” Sporting a smug look, Atsumu leaned on the side of the building. He never missed an opportunity to make your heart flutter.
“You know me so well Tsumu.” You smirked at the setter. You turned your attention to the rest of the group. “As you already know this is for charity, so keep it classy. You will also be auctioned off for a date, so whoever gets you, please be nice and respectful. You have a little time to kill so explore the place a bit and put yourself out there.”
“We'll be on our best behavior!” Bokuto chimed in giving you a thumbs up.
“I know. Now let's head in.” You went to open the door but Atsumu beat you to it. A heat tried to crawl its way up your neck, but you pushed it down. There was a time and place to dwell on the way Atsumu made you feel giddy. Now was not the time, sadly. It was hardly ever the right time, being the manager was a demanding position, their public image was one of your main concerns, which meant having an unprofessional fan girl moment was out of the question.
Once inside, you couldn’t settle your eyes to any one spot. To say the venue was packed would be an understatement. It was a flood of designer dresses and fancy tuxedos. It made you feel severely under dressed, but you're not here for fun. As much as you would love to dance the night away with the boys, specifically Atsumu, you were mature enough to realize how important tonight is.
“Bokuto let’s go eat! Atsumu isn’t your brother catering some of the food?” Hinata asked, eyeing the onigiri.
“Yup, he worked all day to make enough onigiri for tonight.” Atsumu said proudly. He and his brother may fight and quarrel, but they are both so supportive to each other.
“We better hurry and get some!” Bokuto grabbed Hinata by the arm and ran towards the food.
“You know where I’ll be. Just come get me when it’s time.” Sakusa walked towards a secluded corner.
“Now what do you plan on doing Tsumu?” You asked looking around the crowded room.
“I don’t know. I’ll probably bother Omi-Omi at some point.” He glanced at Sakusa sulking in his designated corner.
“Leave him alone! I need him to stay cooperative.” You wacked Atsumu in the back.
“Whatever you want doll. I have some orders for ya too.” Atsumu’s bright hazel eyes met your tired ones. Could he tell how nervous you were for this event? What could he possibly order you to do?
“What would that be?” You looked up at him, ready to deny his request.
“If you're gonna dance, make sure it's with me. We killed ‘Down on me’ at the last gala we went to.” Atsumu wiggled his eyebrows. You will never forget that night, you were full of liquid courage and danced on him all night long.
“Tsumu you have to dance with whoever bids on you. I’m in manager mode tonight and I’m staying sober this time.” You glanced at your watch and it was almost time to meet with the event coordinator. “ I doubt I’ll have time to dance at all. Oh snap, look at the time,I have to go to Tsumu.” You turned to walk towards the stage but he grabbed before you could get too far.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make my way to ya. Count on it.” He spoke right next to your ear, causing your hair to rise up. He released you and disappeared into the crowd. Your face was burning from the bottom of your throat, to the tip of your ears. Damn that Miya.
~~
“Y/N thank you for coming!” The coordinator extended her hand for you to shake.
“No problem, I look forward to working with you.” You shook her hand and smiled. The flashing lights of the dance floor blinding you for just a moment. You wished you were dancing instead of working.
“Same here! Now let's get down to the plan. We’ve got a good line up tonight, I’ve got everyone lined up by group size, with yours being the smallest we will have your guys go last.” She scanned the clipboard in her hands. “Have them here in an hour please! I better get going, the rugby team is next and they have a lot of the team here! Ciao Y/N.” She made everything sound easy enough, but the hard part was rounding the boys up.
~~
The music was booming, and the vibrations went through your body like an electric current. You wanted to dance so bad, but you remind yourself you have things to attend to. You try to spot the boys in the sea of people. You went to the food bar first but it looks like Hinata and Bokuto attacked it already considering there was nothing left. You began to walk towards the dance floor and heard the ‘cupid shuffle’ start playing. It was an iconic dance song, and a fun one to get a crowd going. People began to line up and make room to dance. You notice the tips of Bokuto’s hair, Hinata was on his right and Atsumu was on his left. You needed to reach them before the song really kicked in but It was too late.
“Just in time Y/N!” Bokuto beamed down at you.
“Guys we need to get lined up. Plus we still have to grab Sakusa.” You semi yelled over the music.
“Come on Y/N one song won’t kill ya, well get rounded up quick after this okay?” Atsumu wrapped an arm around Bokuto and Hinata. “Now get beside me, you always mix your left and right up.” He wasn't lying, you loved to dance but sometimes became uncoordinated.
“Fine.” You accepted defeat and got beside Atsumu, you took the chance to check him out. He looked so good in his suit, he had a grey tux that fit him like a glove. The white shirt underneath was unbuttoned and his tie left loose around his throat. He was too pretty for his own good. The music finally reached the start of the shuffle, and it pulled you from your thoughts. You followed the music with the rest of these boys in perfect sync. Tsumu nudged you in the right direction every now and then, but no one could see his hand lingering on your side. You smiled from ear to ear, it felt so good to dance some stress away and it felt even better to be so close to Atsumu. You watched his smooth movements, he was calculated on the court and on the dance floor. You could tell he was catching the eyes of women besides yourself. But right now it was you dancing next to him and that's all that mattered. The song came to an end and everyone tried to catch their breath.
“Okay now let's go get Omi.” You lead them out of the dance crowd and toward where Sakusa was. You find him exactly where you left him. He had an intense aurora surrounding him. If looks could kill you would be six foot under right now.
“Omi It's time to go lineup, are you ready?” You asked and he nodded his head. “Follow me guys.” You lead them to the side of the stage.
“So who’s going first?” Hinata asked nervously. You could only pray he wouldn’t puke on stage.
“Hmm good question, lets have Bo go first, then you, then Omi and Tsumu last.” You felt nervousness creep on you, this was really about to happen.
“Y/N you really saved the best for last hmm.” Atsumu flipped his hair dramatically. You rolled your eyes at him.
“Do I have to take my mask off?” Sakusa gave you a pleading look.
“Whatever is comfortable with you. I’ve put you through enough,” Sakusa sighed in relief at your words.
“Okay now, make sure to make a good impression and run these rich ladies pockets up.” You smacked your hands together. “I better get going, remember I’m counting on you guys.” You gave them one last thumbs up.
~~
You got a seat in the front so you could take some pictures of the boys. You were definitely going to get some good ones for the teams Insta. You know what the fans want and you feed them. You were to caught up in getting your phone ready you didn’t notice someone sit next to you.
“Hey Y/N.” Osamu adjusted himself beside you.
“Oh. Hey Osamu! Your onigiri was a hit tonight I heard.” Too bad you didn’t get any, you thought.
“They paid me good for catering tonight, I wanted to make sure it was the best. I even had Tsumu come and try new recipes. He ate so much I thought I'd end up taking him to the ER.” He chuckled. You knew Atsumu loved his brother's cooking. “But enough about that airhead. You looked a little sad earlier when I saw you walking around, Is something wrong?”
“Everything is fine, I’m just stressed. Plus I want to dance and can’t.” Your hands fell to your lap in defeat.
‘Why can’t you dance? Are you hurt?” He gave you a concerned look.
“No I’m fine.” You smiled up at the twin. “I have to take pictures of the boys with their dates and make sure everything goes smoothly. Plus my dance partner will be taken anyway.” You let out a laugh to hide your disappointment. You really wanted to dance with Atsumu, but he will have fun with whoever gets him.
“Oh I see.” He seemed to have a small smirk on his face. “It looks like it’s starting.” The lights of the stage turned on and an upbeat song came on.
“Welcome to the annual Valentines day date auction! We are so glad you all could come out and join us. We have a great  line up or should I say roster. This year our theme was sport team singles! Ladies if you plan on bidding tonight just raise your hand when you see the man of your dreams. Shall we get started?” The announcer said hyping up the crowd of women young and old. Neither your or Osamu paid any attention to the stage, instead you made small talk and showed him embarrassing pictures of Atsumu. Your favorite one being his face pressed up against an airplane window fast asleep. You sat beside him on that flight and ended up falling asleep on his shoulder. You remember him covering you up with his blanket at one point, he was a sweetheart when he wanted to be. Time flew by and it was finally time for the boys to get on stage.
“Next up we have the MSBY volleyball team!” Bokuto was called up, you got some good pictures of him flexing and just being his goofy self. Hinata came on stage and was more collected than you thought he would be. Sakusa came out and was stiff as a board the whole time, but you wouldn't complain considering he was kind enough to even come. And now it was Atsumu’s turn. You saw him walk on stage and your stomach began to feel like a merry go round. His wavy hair bounced with every confident step he took, he was hot and he flaunted it. Your eyes were glued to him, and once he found you in the crowd his eyes locked onto yours. He winked right at you and gave you one of his shit eating grins. You felt the embarrassment creep up on you, your attention went to your phone to take pictures of the cocky setter.
“I wonder what poor soul will get Tsumu.” Osamu stuck his tongue out at his brother.
“Hopefully someone who can put up with him, and keep up with his erratic dancing.” You laughed out. If you were being honest you wished you were the ‘poor soul’.
“I only know one person who fits that description.” Osamu smirked at his brother
“What?” You looked up at him confused. “Who?”
“Alright for 175,000 yen, going once , twice...” You eyed Osamu and he reached his hand out and tickled your side, causing your arm to shoot straight up in the air.
“We are now up  to 180,000 yen! Going once, twice, and sold! That concludes the auction! We hope you all have a wonderful night and a Happy Valentine’s Day.” Astumu gave you one last smile before exiting the stage. You were still in a state of shock as the stage lights dimmed.
“I know what yer thinking Y/N, but it will be easier if you go talk to the dumbass. He’s a watin for ya.” Osamu got up and left you in a state of shock. You stood up quick and  made a beeline towards the large crowd of athletes. You could feel your heartbeat pick up the closer you got. You just had to know why.
“Y/N over here!” You heard Hinata’s familiar voice over the crowd. You made your way to him and noticed the rest of the team standing with him. You wanted to congratulate everyone before you interrogated Atsumu.
“You guys did so well! I’m proud.” You smacked Bokuto and Hinata on the back. “Your dates should come get you soon, remember to have fun and be kind to them!” Sakusa was standing nervously against the wall, you hope someone tame got him. You looked over at Atsumu and he mouthed ‘Let’s go to the lobby.’ You nodded your head and you left the team to find out what was up. He led you through the crowd and into the empty lobby.
“I hope you're not mad at me Y/N, truth is I had something planned for you this Valentine’s Day, I wanted to surprise you,  but we ended up having to do this which ruined my plans. Kinda.” Your eyes widened at his words. “You may be the team's manager and I may be the setter. But tonight let’s just be Y/N and Atsumu. You won me fair and square so either way you're stuck with me.”
“Okay, I’d like that actually. But I still have to check on the other every now and then.” You felt your heart rate pick up again. “But I have to know, who paid for you really?”
“Samu did. He was going to give most of his earnings back to the charity anyway.. I didn’t want just some girl beside me tonight, I wanted my girl. So after some begging he agreed to do it. But In return I must refer to him as the superior twin for the rest of the year.” Atsumu had you dumbfounded. You would have to thank Osamu later.
“Tsumu what do you mean by ‘my girl’?” Your knees felt like jelly. You knew what he meant, but you needed to hear it.
“Exactly what I said. I think we both know about each other's feelings. I love you more than Omi loves flu shots and lysol.” This was the oddest declaration of love, but it still made your heart melt.
“That makes you mine too, right?”  He nodded his head and began to rummage through his pockets.
“Yes It sure does darlin’. I’m glad to get that off my chest. I got you a little something, close your eyes and hold your hand out.” You closed your eyes and felt his hands clasp something around your hand. “And open.” You looked down at the tennis bracelet you’ve been eyeing for a long time.
“Tsumu how did you..” You were at a loss for words, the bracelet was something you’ve been saving for. It was a pretty bracelet with a pretty big price tag. You couldn't help but smile.v
“When we all went to the mall a few months back I went to find you and saw you trying it on at the jewelry store. You looked sad when the cashier put it back in the case. As soon as you left the store I went right in and bought it. And before you say a thing, that smile you have on is worth every penny I spent.”
“Tsumu thank you, but I’m sorry I didn't get you anything.” You felt guilty but he wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
“Having you with me right now is plenty enough for this fool. Now let’s go check on everyone and get on the dancefloor.” He began to walk you back into the ballroom. You spotted the boys talking to their dates. Bokuto was with a shy curvy girl, she was absolutely stunning and she was definitely his type. You knew he would treat her good. A volleyball player from America bided on Hinata, they were talking about receives. She was a perfect fit for him. Sakusa was with an older woman, she seemed to be very respectful and calm. She mentioned that he reminded her of her late husband. All was well. They left with their dates and now it was time for you and yours to hit the dance floor. Atsumu grasped your hand and led you to the center of the dance floor.
“Tsumu wait.” You stopped a server and downed a glass of champagne.
“Oh my, here we go again.” Astsumu rolled his hazel eyes. You and drinking never ended good.
“I won’t go overboard. Now let's go dance.” You began to speed walk to the dance floor. The DJ was playing some straight up bops, you felt the music take over your body and you began to dance. As soon as ‘hips don't lie’ began to play you both went straight feral. You pulled away from him and swayed your hips side to side. Atsumu's eyes stayed glued to you as you let Shakira guide you. You came to a stop when you felt a lingering presence from behind you. You felt an unfamiliar pair of hands linger over your hips. You felt a wave of panic wash over you but Atsumu was quick to react, he wrapped his strong arms around and spun you away from the creep.
“Don’t even try, she obviously ain’t yours, now screw off asshole.” Astumu held you as close to him as humanly possible while telling the creep off. The smell of his cologne grounded you. The man flipped Tsumu off and disappeared back into the crowd. “Are you okay Y/N?”
“Yes thank you, but I need a drink to loosen back up.” You said eyeing the bar. You swore sobriety tonight, but you were feeling yourself. “But just one.”
“Sureee just one,  I know better than that. You’ll be plastered by the end of the night.” He leaned down and whispered in your ear. His thick accent made your hair stand up. You rolled your eyes and led him to the bar. Bokuto was with his date at the bar, he was talking her head off, but she seemed to be interested in what he was saying. You didn’t want to disturb them, but Bokuto called you and Atsumu out.
“Tsumu! Y/N! Drink with us!” Bokuto ordered him and his date another shot.
“I’m not drinking tonight, I’m the DD tonight. But our manager here is feelin bold.” Atsumu waved down the bartender and ordered your favorite drink.
“Don’t get too drunk Bo, Sakusa will kill you if you get sick in his clean car.” You downed your drink. The champagne from earlier already making your head buzz.
“Yes ma’am, now me and this cutie are going back to the dancefloor. Have fun.” Bokuto held the girls hand and guided her back to the dance floor. They looked so cute together.
“I’ve got to use the bathroom, I’ll be right back.” Atsumu left you alone at the bar. Bad idea. You waved the bartender down and ordered two shots of tequila. You needed to get loose and the sugary drink he ordered for you wasn’t gonna cut it. You downed the shots and felt the warmth in your cheeks. You ordered one more for safe measure. With the evidence gone Atsumu didn’t suspect a thing when he came back.
“Ready to get back out there?” You nodded  and headed back out. You noticed Bokuto was absolutely throwing it back on that girl, she looked so embarrassed but was definitely enjoying it. Sakusa and the older lady were enjoying a conversation at a secluded table. Hinata was hyping up the volleyball girl as she slowly dropped on the dance floor. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves.
“Now let's get back down to business.” Atsumu spun you around and pulled you close to him. “You have no idea how happy I am right now. I’m so glad your with me ” Atsumu planted a kiss on your forehead.
“Me too, I figured it would be another lonely valentines day, but this was a pleasant surprise.” You kissed him back on his cheek. Under the flashing light you could see the blush spreading on his cheeks.
“You won’t be lonely as long as I’m around Y/N. And that is a genuine Miya promise.” He crossed his heart as the upbeat music came back over the speaker. “Now let's get busy.” You two danced with your bodies hot and heavy against one another. It felt like heaven the way your bodies swayed under the strobe lights. It was like no one else was on the dance floor but you and him.  You were fine and then all at once the tequila from earlier hit you like a train. The room was spinning and your spirit was rising. The liquid courage strikes again. You pulled away from Atsumu and stood in front of him.
“Tsumu you  are so freakin sexy did ya know that?” You wrapped your arms around him and kissed his neck.
“Well yeah I am pretty sexy, but what’s gotten into you all of a sudden?” He quirked his eyebrow up.
“Tsumu, I had a little extra alcohol while you were in the bathroom. Don’t be mad please, but I’m feeling greatttttt.” You slurred out your words. “But don’t *hic* worry *hic* I can still dance, I’ve got a ton of songs left in me.” You looked up to see three Atsumu’s looking down at you. Between the alcohol running through you veins and the bright lights flashing your head went dizzy. The only thing you remembered before passing out was Atsumu saying something along the lines of “ARE YOU KIDDIN ME Y/N.”
~~
“Next on the stage we have Miya Atsumu, he is the setter for the black jackals! He is single and ready to mingle.” You watched Atsumu walk up on stage, your body felt frozen. You watched him but his eyes never met yours once. You heard girls screaming out his name and bidding on him. But he's yours, right? You were unable to move, unable to speak. You wanted to scream out to him, but no avail.
“Going once, going twice, and sold.” You watched Atsumu jump off the stage and ran to the girl who won him. He picked her up and spun her around. This can't be right, he was yours. He wanted you, why is he going after her? He looked so happy to be with her, but he was yours, he even said it.
“Tsumu why?” Your voice came out finally.
“Your not good enough, you never were.” He began to laugh at you as the girl pulled him by the tie and kissed him on the lips.
~~
“NO!” Your body jolted up. You could feel your heart rate skyrocketing. You realize you had a nightmare, but it felt so real.
“Y/N what wrong? Baby are you okay?” You heard Atsumu's voice but couldn’t make out where it was coming from.
“Tsumu, where are you?” You felt hot tears run down your face. You see a lamp flicker on and spy Atsumu wearing a white fitted shirt and boxers. You realize you are in his bed, you could tell from the sheets and comforter you helped him pick out a few months back.
“Hey, hey It's okay, tell me what's wrong.’ He came over and sat down beside you.
“Tsumu am I enough for you? You could do so much better than me.” You sobbed out, he gave you a confused look.
“You’ve always been enough, I don’t need better when I already have the best. Tell me what has you sayin these things.” He began to rub soothing circles on your back.
“I had a nightmare, you told me I wasn't enough and there was another girl and she kissed you.” Atsumu looked sad as you explained your nightmare to him.
“It was just a nightmare Y/N, yer my one and only. No one even compares to you.” He kissed your tear stained cheek. “What can I do to make you feel better?”
“Kiss me.” You blurted out, you covered your face with your hands in embarrassment. “Tsumu you don’t have t-” Your body fell back on the bed and Astumu hovered above you.
“Ask and you shall receive.” He leaned down and gave a kiss that made you lips tingle. He pulled away and look down on you with a gentle smile on his face. “Better?”
“Umm.. yes.” You lifted yourself back up. “Not to kill the mood, but what happened, how did I get here?”
“You blacked out on me princess. I had to get Bokuto to help drag you out of there and load you in my car. I was going to take you home, but I brought you here to make sure you were alright. No more drinking three shots of tequila back to back, Sakusa saw you and ratted you out.” Atsumu handed you some aspirin and a bottle of water he had on his nightstand.
“Sorry Tsumu.” You lowered your head in shame. You felt guilty for making him go through all the trouble.
“Don’t be, you were kinda cute clinging to me.” He got up from the bed and walked towards his dresser.
“Uh, Tsumu what is this on the floor?” You asked looking at a pile of pillows and blankets scattered beside of the bed.
“That is my makeshift bed, I was going to sleep on the couch, but I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He rummaged through the dresser.  “I’ve got some of your spare clothes from the last team sleepover. Do you want to shower?” He handed you the clothes.
 “Please.”
~~
The hot water felt like heaven on your tired body. You lather yourself in Atsumu body wash and tried to remember what happened exactly. You can remember Bokuto and Atsumu gilding you to his car at some point. You also remember Sakusa  dragging a drunk Hinata to his car, at least you weren't the only one. You remember a little bit of the car ride, Atsumu drove alot smoother thankfully. You stepped out of the shower and dried off. You felt like something was missing. You changed into your clothes and looked into the foggy  mirror. You reached up to fix your hair and noticed the tennis bracelet Astumu had given you was missing. You slammed open the bathroom door and ran to Astumu’s bedroom, he was laid back playing on his phone.
“Tsumu my bracelet is missing!” You began to look around the room in sheer panic.
“It's here, I took it off ya when we got here.” He pointed at his nightstand and you see the bracelet shine under the light of the lamp. You grab your chest and sigh with relief.
“Thank God, I thought I had lost it. I would be devastated if I lost the first gift my boyfriend gave me.” You eyes widened when you realized what you said.
“Boyfriend huh? That’s got a nice ring to it.” Atsumu turned his phone off and plugged it into a charger. “Are you ready for bed, my girlfriend?” That did have a nice ring to it. You nodded your head and climbed into his king sized bed. Atsumu went to get back in the floor but you grabbed his wrist.
“I’d feel a lot better if you slept next to me. Please.” You averted your eyes.
“Anything for you, I’m relived you asked really. The floor is not very comfortable.” He lifted the comforter and crawled in beside of you. He kept a distance from you, despite what people may think, he was a true gentleman. You inched you way to his side of the bed and it didn’t go unnoticed. “Your making it obvious you want cuddled, come on over, I don’t bite.” You scooched over and laid your head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around you securing you in place. Your could hear the soft beating of his heart lulling you to sleep.
“I love you Y/N.” He softly whispered into you ear and gave your forehead a feather light kiss.
“I love you too Tsumu. You’ll be here when I wake up right?” Your eyes struggled to stay open.
“Yes I will, I will always be here. Sweet dreams my pretty girl.” You smiled and slowly fell asleep feeling safe and loved in his arms.

“This was a great idea,” Kuroo finished staking down the tent, and I let the peg go. What was going to be Kenma, Kuroo, and I going on a small camping trip turned into a massive party. Kenma invited Hinata, Kuroo invited Tsuki (who has to bring Tadashi), and Bokuto was coming if Hinata and Kuroo were here, so of course, Akaashi also tagged along. I invited my best girlfriend from college who, wisely, declined. Bokuto and Hinata were on a small break from their team, and classes weren’t in session, so it made sense for us all to hang out. Though camping might have been a more significant task than we initially planned, it'd be fun.
“I just hope we packed everything.” I stood up and wiped my brow, sweat pooling down my forearm. While I wasn’t in the position to complain, considering that Kuroo and Bokuto carried my bags up the mountain, the hike was grueling. Even Hinata was strained after dragging Kenma the second half.
“Well, I did make a list,” Tsukishima pushed up his glasses and grinned. “If we don’t have something, it's not my fault. You’re the forgetful one here, (Y/n).” My mouth fell open, and I sputtered.
“Tsuki, don’t start a fight this early in the trip.” Tadashi sat down the firewood. The two soulmates were balanced out for sure, Tadashi kept Tsuki in line, while Tsuki kept him fired up. Still, Tsuki wasn't so easily persuaded.
“Remember what happened the last time you made (Y/n) cry.” Kuroo draped his arm around my shoulders, squeezing my speechless frame to him. Kuroo's sweat mixed with mine, at least I wasn't the only one overheating.
“If you are proposing a rematch, I’ll win this time.” Tsuki crossed his arms and was enjoying the banter. While they did that, I was mentally going over everything I packed. Of course, I remembered the bug spray, sunscreen, medicine, and extra batteries….my power box for my phone.
“Just apologize, and I’ll school you after dinner.” Kuroo purred, squeezing my arm, resting his head on my shoulder.
“I’m sorry, your Highness.” My eyes widened, sweat reappearing on my forehead. Tsuki conceded, but I didn’t care at that point.
“Thank you, but I did forget something,” I admitted, biting my lip, looking at the dirt. “I need to check my bags.”
“What was it?” Tadashi asked, following me to the pile.
“I brought extra sunscreen, that’s the most important thing,” Kuroo assured me, helping me dig through my bags.
“I forgot my charging bank. But I remembered all the stuff on the list.” My clothes were strewn all over the tarp we laid out for the bags. “Shit, I’m so fucking stupid,” I growled at myself undoing my nightgown, my undies rolling out.
“Granny panties uh.  So you already gave up on finding your soulmate.” Tsuki loved to get under my skin, while Kuroo, Akaashi and Bokuto schooled Tsuki in my honor, I was his favorite target. Tadashi hit his chest, folding my clothes back as I rummaged deeper.
“If my soulmate wants to buy me lacey panties, I’d still wear these. I’m Top enough to be proud of my undies. We all know Tadashi tops you when the doors are closed, so that doesn’t give you a right to judge.”  I smirked, twirling my panties around my finger before shoving them back in my bag.
“Roasted,” Kuroo backed me up, shifting through the cans of bug spray, hoping to find my box.
“At least I’m getting some,” Tsuki huffed, not letting it go.
“I could get it if I wanted,” I lied. Not only was I plus size, but I was awkward around strangers. This didn’t mean I couldn’t get some, it just was hard enough when I had to find a chubby chaser, someone willing to date before finding their soulmate and not be a shy mess. Being around Kenma and Kuroo brought my confidence as a child, and it opened the doors for me to have so many friends. Yet, I wanted affection and attention in that romantic way.
“It’s fine, we are supposed to be disconnecting from tech. I’ll turn my phone off to use for emergencies.” Tadashi reasoned, changing the subject.
“I’ll do the same,” Kuroo set up the cans of spray and sunblock on the little table we brought to make things easier. Before Tsuki started annoying me, he was setting it up in front of the tent. “(Y/n), do you want to go check on Kenma and Hinata?”
Silently I thanked Kuroo for an out. “Yea, those two are probably halfway down the river right now.” Dusting off my knees, I adjusted my shorts and held my head high, walking into the woods.
“Other way,” Kuroo giggled, knowing I was beyond hopeless.
“I was just testing you two.” I fired back, keeping my hands to my side. “Ah, forget it.”
The best part of camping in this spot was that it was secluded. Most people didn’t bother trekking up the mountain when there was a road a few miles down. That was the plus of having athletic friends, they were able to be workhorses and carry our stuff. While we hadn’t been camping together before, I knew that if Kenma and Kuroo could do it, the others could too.
We were on the flat part of the mountain top, but down the other side of the mountain was a river. Kenma and Hinata were sent to get us some water for washing up and doing dishes. When I finally skid down the hill, I saw Hinata swimming and Kenma on his game station, the buckets filled with water on the side.
“It’s not time to goof,” I caught their attention, giggling as Hinata jumped on the dock, his clothes swallowing him like a drowned rat.
“Hey, (Y/n),” Kenma motioned for me to look over his shoulder. He was playing Animal Crossing. “Where should I put this bed?”
“I like the bed in the center of the room, it makes me feel rich.” I put in my two sense, squatting down and resting my head on his shoulder. He put the bed down, then went to another empty room.
“That won’t go with the flow of the bedroom. But that gives ideas me an idea for your room.” He explained, opening the design tool going to the side room. He pulled out an elegant bed and sat in the middle then put down some pastel wallpaper and flooring.
“Now look who’s slacking.” Hinata wrung out his shirt and joined me in watching Kenma decorate.
“It’s not slacking, it’s interior design,” I giggled, loving how Kenma was adding my favorite in-game animals to the table. “Besides, what the other’s don’t know won’t hurt them.”
“Don’t know what?” Someone leaned their head on my shoulder, and I bounced up and around, knocking into them.
“Bokuto, eh we were,” I covered Kenma with my body so he could save and hide his game. Hinata scurried over to the buckets.
“You three were playing video games while we were gathering supplies.” Akaashi clicked his tongue, but I could see the slight smirk on his lips. He was standing up on the incline and definitely had the high ground.
“We got water,” Hinata shot back, pointing to the pails. “We were just helping Kenma design.”
“It’s going to evaporate if you don’t get it back to camp, the sun is almost at its highest point.” Akaashi had a bundle of wood under his arm, and Bokuto had the ax leaned up against a tree not too far from us.
“Not to mention you’re drenched.” Bokuto laughed, hands on his hips. There was a thick layer of perspiration all over his body. He was one to talk about being wet.
“I was supposed to keep them in line, but I got distracted,” I admitted, helping Kenma to his feet. “Let’s all go back together, yea?”
“Yea,” Akaashi agreed, eyes lingering on me for some reason.
“Oh yea, yea.” Bokuto grabbed the ax and a bucket of water. The focus shifts from me to finish the trio of yea’s.
“Oh yea, yea, yea.” I sighed, resting a hand on my hip. “I’m not Kuroo, but I tried.”
“Let’s hurry back,” Hinata changed the subject, grabbing two buckets. Kenma took one, and I grabbed the last pail. They were three-gallon buckets and not easy to manage.  Still, we had to get it back to camp.
As we commenced going back uphill, I began to fall to the rear, as usual, it was either that or start to pant like a dog. I wasn’t the only one struggling, but I was the slowest and most unsure of where I was stepping and what I was stepping on.
“We don’t need to rush,” Kenma slowed down to be beside me and nodded in solidarity. Bokuto and Hinata were racing to the top, spilling water as they went.
“You are wasting it.” Akaashi reduced his pace to walk with us. “Those two have one brain cell between them.”
“That’s a fair assessment,” Kenma shifted his bucket the other hand, and I did the same. The plastic around the wire handle not doing much in terms of ergonomics.
“How was the advanced lit class?” Akaashi and I were in a similar field of study in school, and we had classes together often. So we were regular study buddies, but not this past semester.
“It’s was challenging but not as hard as 396.” I could see the camp just ahead of us. Taking a deep breath, I pushed harder.
“So less papers about unrequited love.” Akaashi determined, pushing his hair back. A bead of sweat sliding down his chin.
“In essence, but to be fair, the 396 professor was just bitter, their soulmate rejected them.” I sat the bucket down with the others by the table.
“Who rejected their soulmate?” Hinata piped up, handing me one of the bottles of drinking water.
“Our professor.” Akaashi also got a bottle and downed it with one long swig.
“What a nightmare,” Tadashi chimed in, holding Tsuki closer on his lap. They both were cuddling by the fire pit.
“Was he mean or something?” Hinata pushed it further.
“From the rumors, it was a petty reason like he was already balding or she was in love with a model.” I summarized, applying more sunscreen to my shoulders. “It made him a bitter man, who had an affinity for assigning tragic readings. In one semester, we read more books about soulmates never meeting or breaking up, to make up for a lifetime.”
“Hamlet was a hard one,” Akaashi added, stretching his back.
“Ophelia deserved better,” I sighed, remembering Hamlet being too preoccupied with other things to love her. “To be or not to be my ass.”
“Let’s have happier thoughts.” Tadashi clapped his hands, going over to grab the fire starting kit.  “How about we celebrate setting up camp by lighting the fire and cooking up some lunch?”
“Sounds like a plan,” Kuroo grabbed the hot dogs from the cooler.
“Let’s get a seat.” Kenma tugged me to the logs that had been left by other campers, and we took our seat. Kuroo sat by Kenma, both of us leaning over his shoulder to watch him fish in animal crossing.
“So when are we setting up the net?” Hinata picked up the volleyball and swirled it between his hands.
“After we eat, we can go to the river and work on that.” Kuroo was always worried about us, making sure we were eating and staying hydrated. Even as a child, he’d often split his lunch with me when my mom would ‘forget’ to pack one for me. Later on, he just started to bring another bento for me. He always had my best interests at heart. He also worried over Kenma, that’s why I hoped he’d be my soulmate. Kuroo cared about everyone and took excellent care of me. While I wasn’t stereotypically beautiful, he always made me feel that way.
If my soulmate wasn’t Kuroo, I’d want them to be someone like him. I’d be okay if my soulmate was Kenma too, we’d get along just fine and play games all day. Or Akaashi, he was a little shy like me, but I could learn to be the outgoing one. Bokuto would be an okay spouse, he had a lot of energy, and definitely made for an excellent dance partner, he was just passionate. Hinata, well he was the one I knew the least, but he reminded me of Bokuto, but stable. Why did this turn into me thinking about my soulmate among my single friends? It didn’t matter; my soulmate was probably miles away, dating a pretty girl and living their best solo life.
Deep inside my gut, I knew I’d be single for life. Kenma or Kuroo would take pity on me and let me live with them and their partner. I’d grow old and write the tragic books I spent all last year reading. Still, there was a flame lightly flickering in my chest, I could still keep dreaming for a better ending. It didn't have to be so tragic.

It was late, the sun was setting, and we had just finished dinner. After several volleyball games by the river, and me being the one to fish balls out of the water, the other boys were ready to change into their suits and swim with me. Only they decided to play one more game and change up the teams at the last minute.
“One more, and I mean it this time. I’m dying to swim,” I pouted, crossing my arms and looking at the cloudless sky. It'd be too dark to see soon, and they'd have to give up.
“Don’t be like that, (Y/n),” Kuroo patted my hair, which added to my humiliation. “We can swim all night and tomorrow too.”
“Hey hey hey, let's get started,” Bokuto cheered on the other side of the net. “The faster I beat you cats, the sooner my sweet (Y/n) can swim.”
“Simp,” Tsuki snickered, trying to throw Bokuto off his game.
“Don’t get him started,” Akaashi warned, nodding for Tadashi to serve. Bokuto was always so encouraging and sweet, but it still wasn’t good for the game when he was depressed.
The first ball was a jump float, so I got in a position to receive. With a simple thrust, I had it in the air and headed right for Kenma.
“Nice receive kitten!” Kuroo yelled, spiking the ball over the net and earning our first point.
“Let's get another one,” Tsuki encouraged, wanting to crush Hinata and Bokuto this time.
It was our serve, and it just so happened to be my turn. Taking a deep breath, I put my left foot in front and spiked the ball over the net. While it wasn’t as fancy or powerful as the others, it made it across the net, and that always excited me.
Tadashi received the ball, getting it to Akaashi, who set for Bokuto.
“(Y/n), this if for you!” Bokuto did a cross-shot, the ball barley missing Tsuki’s reach.
“You scored against her bird brain, that’s not cool.” Tsuki was extra salty today. I could see how crestfallen the Owl had become, his arms dropping to the side as if a black cloud hung around him. Akaashi gave me a pleading glance, pushing up his glasses. It was rare for them to get to play together, I guess I could humor them.
“That was super cool Bo. I’ll send the next one right back at you.” I gave a thumbs-up, and we all rotated.
“Really? You got it.” Bokuto perked back up, posing at the net. “Be ready for it.”
“Of course, I’ll be ready.” I smiled, glad that I had gotten him back in the zone, without encouraging him to beat my team to a pulp.
“You’re hurting our chances of winning.” Tsuki snarled at me, but I loved it when he got passionate.
“It’s not fair if he’s sad.”  I reasoned, trying to brush off the statement.
“We still have this; we are plasma.” Kuroo nodded, watching Kenma cringe, dusting off the ball. The two dorks were ready to wrap this up, but I knew they were happy to be together again.
“Serve.” This time it was Hinata, he spiked, and Kuroo received it, then Kenma set it for me. With a slight run and jump, I had a kill shot. Though Bokuto didn’t seem to be trying to block me...
“Hell yeah,” I beamed, jumping around in the sand, brushing off how slow Bokuto was. Kuroo got me in a headlock and bounced with me.
“Let go,” I puffed, reaching for Kenma to save me. “Kenma, don’t just watch help.” The giggling didn't stop, Kuroo twirling me around; he has taught me that move.
“It was a nice shot.” Kenma twirled his hair around his finger and got back in position.
“That was spectacular, don’t you think Akaashi?” Bokuto boasted on his side, trying to hype up the others despite losing a point.
“It was.” Akaashi agreed, getting ready to serve. “Let’s take it back.”
The game went on, with us all staying on top of each other. While I hated saying I was the weakest link, it wasn’t a lie. I also knew why they put Tsuki on my team. So he wouldn’t block me every chance he got. It was more balanced when Tadashi was on my team, we complemented each other more, but that also meant Tsuki smoking me. There was no win-win when it came to making up our teams.
As much as I loved Tsuki, he wasn’t someone who knew how to be kind. He enjoyed getting a reaction out of us. I was an easy target, I held on to things, unlike Hinata or Bokuto. Kuroo was normally the referee, but for some reason, Tsuki was extra harsh on this trip. Or maybe it had been a while since I was around him. Either way, it was hard to shake this weight building in my stomach.
“No fair,” Bokuto complained as Tsuki reblocked his shot and won the game.
“Told you we’d win.” Tsuki was holding back his elation but still gloating.
“You both played a good game,” Kuroo handed me and Kenma water. “(Y/n), you’ve improved a lot as the day went on.”
“I was just rusty; it’s been a little while since we got to play.” I sat the water down and ripped my shirt and shorts off. I had on my favorite swimsuit and was ready to tackle the water.
“You should cool down before swimming.” Kuroo’s checks were dusted red, and so was Kenma’s. Even if it was just shocking, it was nice knowing I could get a reaction out of them. “How about we dance a little than swim?”
“I guess you’re right, I can wait a little longer. But after three songs, I’m getting in.” I negotiated, bouncing on my heels.
“Deal.” Kuroo looked at Kenma, who nodded and went to set up the speaker. “Everyone okay with that for our cool down?” Kuroo hollered to the others, resting his hands on his hips.
“I should have kept my clothes on, I guess.” I pick them up, now covered in dirt. “Dang it.”
“No ones looking at you in that way anyhow,” Tsuki snickered, flicking my forehead.
“If you’re trying to make me feel better, try again.” I kicked a rock at his ankle, but it just missed. Music began to sweep the hillside, one of my favorites busting out of the speaker. I decided to ignore Tsuki and bug him differently.
“Dance with me,” I tugged Tadashi’s hand, pulling him the spot in front of the tunes.
“Hold up, I- Oh okay.” Tadashi was a blushing mess, the explicit lyrics turning him red. The others were hurrying to put away our volleyball equipment, glancing our way. Tsuki seaming to understand what I was doing. But deep down, it was just because I wanted to play with Tadashi…and make Tsuki jealous. Two birds, one stone.
“Come on, Tadashi- It’s not even my birthday, but he wanna lick the icing off.”  I sang, rolling my hips and bobbing with the music.
“How do I move?” Tadashi tried rolling his hips but was clunky. I twirled Tadashi and bent him over. “Roll your sides in time with mine.”
He put his butt to my pelvis but struggled to throw it back. “(Y/n), I don’t think this for me.” Tadashi stood up shyly. “I’m sorry, I’m embarrassed.”
“It’s okay, just watch me.” I went back to rocking my waist, this time dipping down low and hopping into the air and doing body rolls. Kuroo, Hinata, Akaashi, and Bokuto started to dance as well. Tsuki had Tadashi on the side, trying to help him throw it back. I guess I just encouraged Tsuki to get brave and try dancing. So it wasn’t a bad thing for the blonde.
Focusing on the new song, I lit up in anticipation. This jam was more focused on slower movement but still had a lot of energy. “If you a top-notch bitch let me hear ya holler. Bend it over touch your toes, whip it out.” I bent down and snapped up, throwing it back, being caught.  Without missing a beat, our hips synced up, and I was feeling it. Leaning with the song, I was able to make eye contact with Bokuto. Knew it. Of course, it was him.
“Hey,” I winked, changing the direction of our lean, him keeping up with my every move. While Kuroo was my date for our senior prom. Anytime I was at a dance with Bokuto around, we always ended up together.
“You know me, I have to be with the best dancer on the floor.” His hands tightly held my waist, his thumbs hooking to my suit for stability.
The song ended, and our pace slowed with the new tune. I leaned into his chest, resting my hand on the back of his neck. He smelled like sweat and smoke from the campfire, but I assumed I smelt the same. It still was intoxicating, the way we moved. His hands traveled to my shoulders and slid down my arms. He twirled me out then back in, and out again, catching my free hand and pulling me his chest.
Yellow owl-like eyes caught my gaze, and I wondered how I could be so comfortable. It was so effortless when we danced or hung out. Sure he had some intense mood swings, but he was still fun to be around—a talented young man with a big heart and... ass.
The song ended, and I pulled away, shaking my hair-free. “Swimming time,” I grinned at Bokuto, “thanks for the dances.”
I kicked off my shoes, sprinted to the dock than sawn dived in.  There was no amount of convincing that would stop me from having a good time after a fantastic dance and winning the last game. My body adjusted quickly to the temperature, and I swam away from the dock. Everything was peaceful. No way was I going to fuck it up.
When I popped back up onto the surface, Tsuki had turned on his music, and let it boom over the lake, allowing Kenma to save his phone battery. Tsuki had good taste, no doubt, but it didn’t make me wanna act out.
Shirts and shoes were being tossed aside, and even Kuroo was getting ready to go in. Seams, none of them wanted to wait to cool down for too long. The sun was set, and the moon was just about to rise. The beat got good again, so I swirled in the warm water.
“Race you,” Hinata challenged Bokuto on the shore, and of course, they both barreled in one after the other. I couldn’t help but notice how attractive Bokuto’s calves were. The splash brought me to my sense, and I couldn’t’ help but smile.
“(Y/n), who won?” Bokuto resurfaced, his hair now flat. So cute.
“Hinata got you by a foot,” I did a flip and matched my strokes to the music. “Better luck next time.”
“Damn it,” Bokuto cursed, challenging Hinata in a race to the shore.
“You’re on,” Hinata started off strong and led the race.
“Kawbunga,” Kuroo jumped in, aiming for me. He hooked his arm over my waist and pulled me under with him. He nuzzled my back and tickled my sides before we swam back up. The water was around fifteen feet deep if I had to guess. So there was a lot of room to play around. Kuroo always knew I loved it when he was close to me. Even under the water, I didn’t mind.
“If you’re trying to kill me, finish the job.” I splashed Kuroo when we resurfaced.
“Anything for you, babe.” He pushed me under but swiftly pulled me back up. Floating me on his chest for a moment, then, in an instant, he flipped me under him and back around. “How’s that?”
“I like it,” I fixed my hair, letting it flair out around me. “Again?”
“You two are actually stressing Bokuto,” Akaashi interjected, sliding into the water.  He didn’t stick around before going over to Bokuto. “Cut it out.”
Bokuto was watching us closely, eyes unblinking. “That bastard owl will be fine. Still, we should be more careful. The weeds are dangerous under the water.” Kuroo turned his attention to Kenma, who was being invited in by Hinata. “You can play your game later. Let’s have some fun, Kenma.” Kuroo gave me a quick smirk before swimming over to his oldest friend.
Tadashi and Tsuki were most defiantly making out on the other side of the doc. I could hear their slight moans over the music and I paddled myself deeper into the lake. They were all hugging the shore, in places where they could stand and rough house. Each little group so captivated by their company and the relaxing feel of the water.
“Who wants to do laps?” I called out to the groups.
“We’re good, no thanks,” Hinata was the only one to answer. I waited, but everyone returned to their inner circles.
Trying to ignore the lump in my throat, I started to swim upstream against the current. Being towards the middle where the flow was more substantial was a great way to swim without going too far from the campsite. My mind started to mull over the events of the day.  I heard Kuroo laugh and sling his arm over Tsuki, and I froze in my spot.
At that moment, I realized how out of place I was. If I had been a better volleyball player, they could have gone harder during the games earlier. If I wasn’t so chubby and weak, they wouldn’t have to carry extra stuff up the hill. I was excessive, perhaps outdated. Maybe I was just excess weight to them. A childhood friend that made her way into every friend group she could.
I’m sure they wanted to keep playing ball or dance and chill on shore, but they were indulging me right now. Sure, I had humored them all day, but I was such a small fraction of time. There was only so much we could fit in a week of camping. Even so, none of them wanted to join me for laps, which was fine, but…it didn’t feel good.
The thought of slowly distancing myself always popped up at times like this, but I never acted on it. They made me so happy, wither it was a study party with Bokuto, Kuroo and Akaashi, or Kuroo, Kenma and I having a Mario cart race, or a baking night at Tadashi and Tsuki’ house, I enjoyed spending time with them. But was it all just pity or routine, did I not click in the ways I thought I did?
They all were so content together, it just hurt how easily I floated there, unneeded.  I was destined to be a loner. To do laps around a black lake and stay surface level. After college was over, I’d move into a small home, get a cat, and die alone. Maybe a few of them would show up at my funeral. I should just leave before they even notice I’m gone.
The moon finally lit up the water, their faces so serene and content. Light spilled over the trees and bounced off the surface. I wasn’t meant to be here. Then there was a slight twinge on my wrist.  Holding it up to the moon, everything motionless.
   Koutaro Bokuto.
My stomach dropped, I looked at the pro splashing his friend, unaware of what just happened. Suddenly all the books I read last year flooded through my subconsciousness. In a moment of clarity, I sprang to swim downstream as fast as I could. I didn’t have space, or questions about who, but more so why and if. My heart was racing, and I couldn’t move swift enough. The land would be faster, but they could see. I didn’t have a way to hide it. There was no time. No hope. Fuck.
“(Y/n), where ya going?” Hinata called after me, stopping his splash war to shout after me. “What about the buddy system?”
“I need to stretch.” My voice cracked, tears spilling over. I dove underwater to hide my whimpers and ignore any response, moving with the current to go faster. Everything was shaking, the ringing in my ears getting louder, and the sense of reality fading away.
Once I went up for air, I went back down again until it was safe to pop my head up and not be heard. The boys were far enough away I couldn’t see anything but the faint light from Tsuki’s speaker. None of them were calling after me, and the music was still going so, I knew I was safe.
With some distance between us, I rubbed the spot on my arm, hoping it would wash away. Bokuto, Bokuto, was my soulmate, and he was a pro baller that could get any girl or guy he wanted. I was dead weight, there’s no way he’d ever like me in that way. I mean, he tried to impress me the entire time we’ve been out, but that’s just because I’m the only girl here. The whole dancing thing is because I’m good at it and he just wants someone to match his level.
Shoving my face under the river, I screamed at the top of my lungs, inhaling. I began to hack, swimming to a fallen tree, holding to the branches. Tears leaked down my face, and my coughing turned into wheezing. What the fuck, my soulmate was not only, gorgeous, but a kind person who I already had a great bond with? Why now of all times did the mark activate.
Why did it have to be someone so successful? Someone who’s going to reject me and marry someone conventionally pretty and smart and balanced. It wasn’t me, I wasn’t that person. Of course, I was myself around him, why would he accept me after seeing me at my worst. Like all the times, Tsuki made me cry. Bokuto always comforted or stood up for me, but that was all pity.
Twenty minutes had passed, and my crying had only gotten worse. The yearning in my chest got tighter, this was something I wanted so desperately, but I thought I had more time --more time to change my body, work on having a better memory, and be finished with school. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
The yelling started, my name echoing over the hills, Kurooo’s deep voice in a panic. Then he yelled for Bokuto, and I shivered. Bokuto should be with them. Was he looking for me? And if so, how could I buy more time? Should I swim back, let them know I’m okay and then bolt? But what if he’s in trouble? He’s intelligent but lacked common sense when he was distracted. He lacked common sense all the time. Damn it.
Was he so dead set on breaking it off with me that he was chasing me? Did he really notice the mark this soon? “Fuck.” My breath was short. I clung to the tree branches, trying to count, but instead, I cried harder. The voices yelling were getting closer, and I knew I had to move. Uncurling my fingers, I let go of the branches. The current took me, and I attempted swimming with it while wiping my eyes. My awkward paddle was not working out.
Something smiley tickled my foot and then wrapped around my ankle several times. Still drifting, it got tighter. The unusual texture making me squeal. Alarm set in. When I tugged my foot, it wouldn’t break free from the hold. The water was still pushing me downstream, the binding anchoring me.
My mind when to the lake monster movies that we watched as kids, and I could imagine nails digging into my ankle. “Let go,” I squealed, thrashing around wearing myself down. “Help.” With my unrestricted foot, I tried to undo the hand on my ankle to no avail.  All my energy went to keeping my head above water as I tuckered out. The drag of the flow pushing my head deeper and deeper.
Nothing changed the more I dug my toes between the slime and the grip crushing. I started to focus my energy on keeping my head above water and swimming against the flow. But I was already tuckered out Chasing after the balls all day, plus dancing and hiking had taken its toll.
“(Y/n)? (Y/n)? Where are you, babe?” Bokuto’s voice rang out through the trees. I stopped myself from calling out again—the knot in my chest greater than the risk of death. Still, I wasn’t getting myself out of this anytime soon. My head kept bobbing under as my paddling breaks got longer and longer. He wasn’t too far, and I didn’t know how close my friends were behind him. Soulmate or not, I needed help. I could worry about rejection later.
“Help, I’m in the middle of the river,” I spat out the water, my head bobbing under. “I’m trapped.” Even yelling was wearing me thinner.
“Keep talking,” he called out, closer than before. His voice was stressed, but still calming to hear. Thank goodness he hadn't passed me yet.
“Over here, Bo,” either the water was going up, or I was being pulled under. Inhaling water, I started to cough, unable to shout. I took in more water. “Hurry,” I gurgled.
“Found you,” Bokuto sprinted from the trees, diving headfirst into the river. In a flash of silver, he appeared, and my chest swelled with relief.  He leaped in slightly above my location so the current would carry him to me. “Hold on, babe.” He surfaced and paddled hard, the distance closing between us. Once in reach, he wrapped his arms around me. He propped my head on his chest and let out a deep breath. Maybe it was because he was a pro sports player, or had the stamina for days, but he easily trod the water, keeping me from being fastened to my death.
“Careful, don’t get wrapped up too. I’m sorry.” Able to breathe again, I began to hyperventilate. The tears were back, drowning WAS still on the table, and I wanted to take that hand of cards. God, this was a terrible choice. He was going to dump me. This was bad, now he'd pity me getting stuck. I covered my face with my hands, and I tried to pull away.
“Hey hey hey, it’s going to be okay.” He assured me, rubbing my arms, “Can you stay afloat while I untangle you?” I nodded, giving into his confident tone. I could get used to that forever... “Okay, hang tight.” Holding his breath and diving under, he slides his hand down my leg till he got to the grass. Pushing his finger between the weeds, he pried the vice grip of my ankle. It took him several tries, but I was finally free. I curled up my feet to my knees and paddled with my arms. The current swept me away, but not before he had a grip on my arm.
“Thank you,” I uncurled my legs and kicked carefully.
"Hold on to my shoulders." He guided my hands to his back, and I begrudgingly held onto him. "I got you, babe, you can trust me."
"I do. I trust you." I whispered, letting him tow me to shore. I was barely keeping my eyes open. He gripped my head and helped me walk up the muddy bank.
“I can’t believe I almost just lost my soulmate.” He sighed in relief, not letting go of my hand as we hit land. Pulling me to his chest, he squeezed, running his finger under my eyes. “Want to tell me why you ran, babe?”
“Technically, I swam.” I coughed again, sitting upright and hacking up water. This was not a good look for me.“This is not how I wanted it to happen. Almost dying and being rejected, ya know. I have no hard feelings.”
“You’re rejecting me?” Bokuto curled up in a ball, a dark cloud setting over him instantly.
“No, you’re rejecting me, right? I mean, it only makes sense. I’m- ugh. Well, I’m a big girl, not to mention I’m forgetful and kinda lame. You should be with-“ I didn't think I'd have to explain why I was a bad fit, but the words flowed so smoothly...
“Stop it.” He put his hand over my mouth. “I want you when I saw your name I was flipping out in excitement, but when I saw you were gone, I freaked. You're so smart and beautiful and funny and independent, and you always support me." He scooted closer, pushing my hair away from my face. "Do you want me?” He cupped my face, the moon making his frosted hair sparkle. His words flowed so easily, too, all the ways he liked me.
“At that moment, I was having a pity party, in which I felt like I didn’t belong. Then my wrist felt weird, and one of the greatest men I’ve met, his name is on my skin. I had resolved to be an old bitter cat lady and accepting that I’d be rejected or a singlet.” I let my arms fall to my side. “But I do want you. I’m just afraid of ending up like all those books where we don’t end up together.”
“We won’t be like those stupid books. Who needs to read when we could play volleyball or do something you like.” Our foreheads bumped together as he leaned in, taking my hands. “We’re going to be together forever. You already come to all my games, and I’m hella proud to point you out, but now I get to brag I have the hottest soulmate on the planet. I guess Kuroo never told you I like plump girls. And you’ve had my eye since highschool. So have no doubt, I really think you're beautiful. Your personality is perfect too.”
“This whole time?” My mouth was agape, and I tried to think of what to say. We had been friends since our first year. It was awkward back then, I was so shy...but he worked really hard to get me to open me up. He'd bring me my favorite snacks and little cat figurines from my favorite gacha machine. Plus he'd walk me home on the nights we all would hang out together... Oh.
“Akaashi said I was too obvious, but I guess he was wrong.” Bokuto stood up then pulled me to my feet. “But that doesn’t matter now. You’re always going to belong with me.” His smile was so big and beautiful and perfect.
“You’re going to make me cry again.” I hugged him, his arms wrapping around me with a tight squeeze. When we pulled apart, we walked up the shore, to where the voices were still yelling.
“What if I told you, that you have a great ass? Would that make you stop crying?” Stepping on a branch, I froze, blood rushing to my face. He winked, slowing down to admire my butt.
“That doesn’t fit the tone we just set, but like…your ass is my favorite.” I sucked in my bottom lips holding back. “Like that’s the first thing I noticed about you when I saw you playing against Nekoma.” I bit my tongue but decided to kept talking. "That's also why I like being your team, I get the best view."
“Well, now you get to touch it whenever you want too. Oh, you can call me Koutaro know too, this going to be great.” He slung his arms around me. The sticks under our heels, keeping us a slow and steady pace, we didn't want to trip in the dark. “I’ve wanted you to call me Kou for a while, but Akaashi said it was too much.”
Warmth radiated from him, I slid my hand to rest on his lower back. “Akaashi must think I’m more perceptive because we have classes together. He’s going to flip when he sees us, but we have time for all that. Let’s just get back before the others start to call the police. We can let Akaashi process it at his own pace.”
“Everyone’s going to be so jealous.” Koutaro bragged, sliding his hand down my arm, locking our fingers together. “I’m so excited.”
“I’m happy, too, nervous, but ready. As long as I have your support, then we can handle any lake monster or Kuroo drilling us.” While my anxiety lingered, it drifted away with each step and stroke of Kou’s thumb on my palm. I wanted to believe this would work, and deep inside, I knew it would.
“Let Kuroo interrogate us all he wants, I’m not afraid of Mr. Bedhead.” Koutaro stopped, patting down his face suddenly. “Why are you looking at me like that? Too hot to handle, I know.” He flexed his arms grinned.
Finally, I had my soulmate, and he accepted me without hesitation. I pressed my lips to Koutaro’s forehead and hugged him close, running my finger’s through his wet hair, tears slipping past my eyes. “Hey hey hey, don’t cry again, huh."
“I’m just so happy.” I sniffled, pushing my head in his chest.
“Well, that’s a relief.” He held me tightly in return. “Let it out and we’ll get back when we’re good and ready. Let them call the police. It's all about you and me, babe.”
Bonus:
“Good and ready huh?” Kuroo emerged from the bushes. “You two ran off of your own free will, then you take your time getting back. This isn’t going to fly.”
“Run.” I knew that look from Kuroo. Kou was about to respond, but I grabbed his hand. “Go. Go go go.”
   “What-“ Koutaro chased after me.
“Bastard Owl!” Kuroo screeched, grabbing a stick and chasing after us.

Anything to See You Smile:
It was hard to remember what day it was or how long I'd been inside.  There were a million things on my mind, and nothing at the same time. The weight of the world resting on a six-foot bubble, struggling to breathe. To breath. Momo was working dusk till dawn, making respirators, face masks, and other medical parts for the hospital. While crime rates had plumped and most heroes were safe at home, she was saving lives in ways she never thought she'd have too.
That's why I had dinner ready and in the microwave to stay warm. Her favorite candles lit. Why I had Epsom salt prepared for her bath. She was stretched so thin, she was barely able to move after she hit the bed. If there was anything I could do to make her life easier, than I would do it.
There was a shuffling outside of the house, and my heart began to flutter. The sounds of boots hitting the floor and Lysol being sprayed. She was home early today. As much as I wanted to rush to the door, I remained sitting on the foot of the steps and waited. Momo was always so cautious when coming home. She had begged me to move in with my sister till this was over, but there was no way I could abandon her in the middle of this pandemic.
"I'm home," Momo was in a robe, mask still adorning her face. Her eyes sunk into her head, halfway open.
"Welcome home," I stepped away from the stairs. "if I knew you'd been home so early, I would have run your bath."
"I'm going to shower tonight. If I sit down, I'll pass out." She laughed, though short and tired, it was music to my ears. "And I want to spend a little time with you, babe."
"Really? Opp, I mean, if you have the energy, I'd love that." Bouncing on my heels, I went to the kitchen to set out her dinner, a pep in my step.
It was selfish to want her attention, and impossible to have her affection, but if just for tonight, I wanted to have dinner with her.
Sitting at the far end of the table, I waited for her. While idling had become part of my routine, I was itching to see her without a mask. To watch her lips curl into a smile and her nose wrinkle. I checked my reflection in the back of a spoon and noticed my hair was a mess.
I pulled my hair out of the bun and smoothed it back upright. When I went to put the band around, it snapped in two. "Shit." I cursed, tossing the elastic into the trash. Still holding my hair in one hand, I went to the junk drawer, hoping I had a spare. I had been on my last hairbow for over a week, so it wasn't looking good.
"Need something, baby?" Momo was leaning against the archway, towel wrapped around her damp hair.
"Do you have any more hairbands?" I sighed, letting my matted hair fall around my face. While I had been waiting on Momo hand and foot, I had forgotten to care for myself. Sitting in front of the door all day and watching over her while she slept, I was running out of steam.
"What color do you want?" she pushed the sleeve up on her shirt.
"No, you're already used your quirk all day. You should take it easy, I can find a string somewhere."
"Shh, I haven't been able to spoil you like I want too." Her gaze fell to the floor. "I want to take care of you too. Sure, I'm able to do a lot of good with my quirk, but you are important too."
"Red, so I match your hero uniform." I conceded, hating the dejected glint her eye. That's part of why she loved me, I gave in quickly. There was no reason to go back and forth and tire her out more. "You are working so hard to make a difference, but I do miss you."
"I miss you." She pulled my hair into a ponytail, than did it up. "This meal looks exquisite. Let's break the rules just this once and eat side by side. Does that sound nice?" Her arms wrapped around my middle, resting her head on my shoulder. We swayed back and forth in the kitchen, a light hum in my ear.
"It sounds amazing." We took our seats and pushed them together. Enjoying our meal with stories of older times.
"Remember when you did a nose dive into the pond, chasing our ball." Momo sipped on her water, than working on her noodles. Before all the chaos, she would slowly savor every bite, but now she couldn't eat fast enough.
"Yea, I had a soggy leaf on my face, and I thought it was a snake and panicked. Those were better times." I pushed my food around, taking a few bites. It went quiet after that. Our utensils scraping along the bowls. Water cups growing less full.
At that moment, I just wanted it to last forever. To be close to her, to smell her shampoo, and know she was safe with me. I couldn't control a thing in the outside world, but here I could make a difference.
"I'm doing my best." Momo slurped down her last noodle and rested her hand on the back of my neck. "I'll do my best to make you smile again."
"What I've been smiling. I'm so happy you're home, and you made me this hairband, even though you're exhausted. You work so hard, reminding me I'm loved, plus you're saving a life. You don't have to try to make me happy."
"No (Y/n), I want you to smile when I'm not here." She began to cry, wiping away the tears. "I don't think the world will ever be to same, but I will make it so we can be together again without all this fear. You've been right behind me this entire time, and I just want to give you your life back. I promised you the world all those years ago, and I meant it." She embraced me, letting out all the emotions she'd been building up.
"Momo," I ran my finger's through her hair, humming her favorite tune, "you are my world." I pulled her back and smiled, "as long as you come home to me every day, it'll be okay."
"(Y/n)," her lips turned up weakly, her hand gripping the back of my shirt, "how did I end up with such a caring partner?"
"I'd say it was all the study sessions, but it really was how thoughtful you were, not to mention how easy you are on the eyes. Now that's enough crying, let's get you to bed and turn on the white noise machine, hm? You've had a long day, love." I tugged her up, her body swaying with how tuckered out she was.
"I love you." She looped her arm around my shoulder and let me lead her upstairs. Whispers of how much she loved me falling from her lips.
"I love you more." I tucked her into the sheets and sat by her phone like all the nights before. "It's going to be okay." I nodded to myself, slumping against the chair, Momo already long gone. Reaching up to my hair, I felt to plush red scrunchie, and a blanket of warmth fell over me. Things would be alright, but until then, I would do my best to keep Momo going, keep her happy, and make her smile.

Dancing Under the Stars
Letting my shoulders dip, my backpack slid into my hand and nearly dragged on the street. The snow had been brutal, filling up the sidewalks and creating a dense screen that wouldn’t let me see more than a few feet ahead at a time. My phone buzzed in my pocket, the familiar sound of Electric Love, making me want to dance in the street, played. Covering the screen with one hand and bring it close to my eyes, I accepted the call.
“Hey love,” my lips quivered, “did you make it home safe?”
“You’re not home yet?” His voice picked up; shuffling could be heard in the background. “Where are you?”
“I’m by the old bakery. Where are you?” I gripped the front of my coat tighter, the wind picking up.
“I was home, but I had to go pick up something.” Keys jingled, and the front door slammed. “I’m coming to get you, just find a place to shelter down.”
“Babe, it’s too dangerous to drive,” I argued, tucking behind a tree for the moment. “I’m close enough to home. It’ll be fine.”
“If you’re so close, then let me come get you.” The car door shut, and I heard the heater turn on.
“I don’t think arguing with you is going to work.” Leaning against the tree, I tucked my head deeper into my hood. “Just be safe.”
“You got it.” He hung up, and I knew he’d be here in just a few moments. He’d always be my personal hero, no matter how large or small the task was. There he’d be, chasing away the crowds or opening pickle jars for me. It was the small gestures that assured me I was loved. He did grand acts for the public almost daily, but I was the only person he sang to sleep at night.
The cold was less bitter as my heart raced. He was a simple man, easy to please, even easier to make laugh. There was no one else I wanted to see at this very moment. Closing my eyes, I thought back to meeting at the grocery store. He had the goofiest smile as he asked for my number. If he hadn’t been so charming, I would have turned him away, but he was a cutie. I’m so glad I did give him a chance; while the life of a pro hero was hard to deal with, we made it work.
A honk caught my attention, and the blonde jumped out of his car, carrying a blanket. “There you are.” He wrapped me uptight and kissed my forehead, his lips like fire on my icy skin.
“On second thought, I’m glad you came to get me.” He took my school bag, and we piled into the car. The heater was going full blast and was still warm from when he had run out earlier. “Thank you, baby.”
“Of course,” he tapped my leg, pulling onto the road and taking it nice and slow.
“I’m glad to be out of the storm.” I checked my phone now that snow wasn’t in my eyes. “Oh, I missed your text earlier. So you have a surprise waiting for me?” I hummed along to the song on the radio.
“Yea, it was my first day off in a while, and I wanted to do something special. Though it was more difficult than I imagined it’d be.” He pulled into our driveway and walked around to get my door.
“Thank you, baby.” We entered the house and began to remove all the winter layers.
Denki reached forward and undid my scarf. “This is the one I got you, right?”
“It is. I wear it almost every day.” I bopped his forehead, sliding off my boots. “Did you just notice?”
“No, I just. I’ve been thinking about how terrible my gift was last year.” He kept smiling, but I could see the sorrow in his eyes.
“I love my scarf.” I squished his face between my cold hands, his blush dissipating.
“You went all out for my gift. Scarf pails next to a nice electric guitar.” He shuffled to the kitchen, working on some tea for the both of us.
“Well, that was a gift for me too. I love to hear you play.” I perked on the kitchen counter, sucking in my lower lip. “Besides, the first year a couple is together, their gifts are normally a little underwhelming.”
“But yours wasn’t.” He set out the cups, focusing on the stirring spoons.
“Well, I’m sure you’re going to blow me away this time.” I took his hand and ran my fingers over his knuckles. He perked up at the mention of this year.
“Yea, I’ve made up for it this time. I know it’s early, but I’m so excited to show you.” The teapot was ready, so I poured it while Denki got the bag ready to be steeped.
“Well, now, I’m curious.” I humored the blonde from time to time, but I had a feeling this was about to be impressive. “We can look after we warm up a bit, okay?”
“I don’t think I can wait that long.” He hugged me from behind, his body radiating heat. “So I’ll have to warm you up faster than the tea.”
“That’s one way to do it.” I hugged his arms, both of us swaying back and forth. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and see the surprise. “Okay, let’s see it.”
“Yay,” he held my hand, guiding me to our bedroom. “You’re going to love this. Close your eyes.”
I did as asked, the soft hum of old music began to pour from the room. Stepping into our bedroom, I could sense the plush carpet under my bare feet, and I wondered why there were little hard pieces under my toes.
“Open.” It took a moment for my eyes to adjust. The whole room was blacked out, our drapes tapes down, and the little red light from the tv is gone.
“What’s going on?” I reached out, trying to find out where my boyfriend was, but I couldn’t find him. Lights suddenly came on, the ceiling full of Christmas lights.
“It’s the constellations!” he beamed, coming from the power strip I could barely see on the floor. “We live in the city, so I know it’s hard for you to see the stars. I wanted to bring them to us.”
“Denki.” His name fell from my lips, a smile growing the longer I looked at the detail. There weren’t just Christmas lights but glow in the dark stickers, fairy lights, and a galaxy projector in the corner. He flipped a switch, and the whole room looked like the milky way. “I’m speechless.”
“So you like it?” He pulled me close, swaying with the music that played. Listening closer, I suddenly realized it was the music they played to the rovers on Mars. Resting my head on his shoulder, I inhaled his cologne and tried to remember how it felt to be in this moment.
Being pressed against the person I loved most, dancing under the stars. His hands tapping against my lower back, his breath tickling my ear, the faint outline of his grin, all making my heart pound. I wanted to live in this exact moment forever.
“I love it.” I leaned back, spinning him. “This might just be the best gift of all time.” Hyping him up, he spun me this time, laughing.
“Hey, next year will be even better.” He assured me. “I’m going to take you to see the real stars, far away from the city lights.”
“That sounds magical too.” I gripped his chest.
“I have one more thing I want to do.” He suddenly stopped, squaring his shoulders and nodding. “May I have this kiss?”
“Oh,” if my heart wasn’t already soaring, it was now bouncing it’s way to my throat. “Of course.”
“Merry Christmas (Y/n), I love you.” He bent down, our lips meeting in a soft peck. I could taste the peppermint from our tree that he had been sneaking. “Why are you laughing?”
“I’m just thinking about how cute you are.” I gripped his cheeks, going in for a deeper kiss. When we pulled apart, he was putty in my hand. “That’s the spirit.” I pushed his hair back, the static giving me a familiar shock. “I love you, Denki.”
Bonus:
“Ahhh, the teas cold.” Denki was crestfallen coming back into the kitchen. After some debate about how much those lights would affect the electric bill, we decided to discuss it over our tea. More time had passed than we realized, and the water was, at best, tepid.
“It’s okay, we can make some more.” I chuckled, getting the kettle back on. “How about hot cocoa this time?”
“Sounds great.” He perked back up at the mention of cocoa, his eyes going to the tree. “I know I’ve already eaten half the candy canes, but can I have just one more for my cocoa?”
“Go for it, babe.”
We fixed up our mugs and cuddled on the couch. Both of us tangled into our blankets, a movie on in the background. It had been a cold day, but my hero had shown up just in time. There was the warmest aura in my chest, and I knew it wasn’t from the cocoa. I held Denki’s hand and kissed his knuckles. He was the best gift I could ask for, any day of the year.

Good Friends
It hadn’t been but a few days, and I was already back in bandages. Resting in my bed, tucked away safely from the world… I couldn’t stop glancing from my closet to the window and back to the door. It had been a while since the ambush, but I couldn't close my eyes for two seconds.
My ribs and stomach were so sore. I grabbed my favorite pillow, but it didn’t smell the same. Nothing did. Tide or gain? Someone washed all my sheets. Damn it all. When I was at the doctor, I said Hizashi tried to clean everything up. The group had torn my room apart. Even if I had hidden in the bathroom, waiting inside while I was sparing. Nothing was safe.
Holding my aching body, I stood using my bedside table as a crutch. A dizzy spell washed over me, and I tumbled out of the room and in the silent kitchen. It was four in the morning, and all three men had to work in the morning.
When I scavenged the fridge, I found a casserole and some leftover chicken. I didn’t bother heating it up, I barely got it on a plate before sitting on the couch and pounding it down. I hadn’t been so depleted since I was a captive in Russia… I guess it was a good thing I practiced making gems every morning.
The bandages around my hands were from the coals I made. Back when I was a hero student, I had special gloves. Of course, I overdid it during the fight, because it counted. If dad were still around, he would have gone without a struggle, but he also wouldn’t be sitting on our sofa eating in the middle of the night.
I washed my dishes and moseyed around the home. The window was patched up with garbage bags, and for the most part, that was all that was displaced in the main room.
Remembering my interview in the ER, I’m sure the police already on the trail to the bad guys. They questioned Shinso and Hizashi, too, and they even got the info from Sho. This just needed to end sooner than later. They even took my phone. Of course, it had been the root of a lot of my problems. An early warning system and a ''steal me" beacon. So I couldn't distract myself with music or pictures, or stress over pictures that would be sent to me, of me.
Going back to bed, I just laid there. Everywhere I looked, I expected to be jumped, photographed, or tracked. The unease slowly turned to an anxiety attack, that turned to a panic attack when Hisoka pawed at my window. There was no way I was going to open it… I loved petting him, but I couldn't do it. It hurt so much.
Grabbing my pillow and blanket, I slowly approached the hallway. Pacing the hall, I took shaky breaths and tried to get my courage. Trying Hizashi and Shota’s door, I turned the nob, but it was locked to my surprise. The first door in the hall caught my eye, the one I never dared to open. Maybe if I was super quiet, I could just sleep in there and not disturb Lint ball. Yea that'd be a good plan. We were almost friends now...it was okay.
Tiptoeing, I very slowly turned the handle. It wasn’t locked thankfully, so I sauntered in holding my breath. Shinso’s back was to me, the blanket wrapped around him like a cocoon. The moonlight was shining through the window, lighting up his hair. He looked like he was out cold.
My shoulder’s relaxed, and I laid my blanket at the foot of the bed, dropping my pillow down. Quietly lowering myself, I got comfy. The floor was hard and stressed my back, but it was easier than being anxious all night. Closing my eyes for the first time in two days, I started to drift off.
“You want to explain why you’re in my room?” I jumped, sitting up and peering at him over the mattress. He was perched on one elbow, phone lazily in his hand, his light pointed on me.
“Hu- I-. Good morning. You see, I was afraid. So, I just thought ,since Hizashi had the door locked, that I could just sneak in here and sleep without bothering you.” I played with my fingers and made small hand motions. Putting on a happy tone and trying not to be a creep.
“You don’t have to sneak in.” He crawled out of bed, lazily yawning. “Hop up, Kitten. I’m not planning on sleeping for the rest of the night.” Hitoshi patted the mattress, and I didn’t even fight it.
“Thank you. I would argue with you, but I’m too tired.” I rolled into the large bed, and my eyes went wide. Gasping, I grabbed a pillow and buried my head in the fabric. Inhaling the with deep breaths, a wave of joy washed over me.
“What are you doing?” Hitoshi sat in his armchair and put his phone to the side. Leaning forward on his knees, he raised a brow.
“Lemongrass and lavender… that was all you?” I sat up, and cocked my head to the side. "You were the one smelling like this the whole time?"
“I use a pillow mist.” He held up a small bottle, and I blinked a few times, biting my lips.
“This is going to be weird…but I have been sleeping so much better ever since Hizashi gave me a pillow that smelled like this. You have good taste.” I curled back down, closing my eyes and holding the pillow closer.
“It helps me too.” He mused, leaned back, scrolling through his phone again. “You were cool the other day. That cork move, you used in the blizzard biome. It was amazing.”
“Thank you. It drained me, but it is a flashy move.” I popped my fingers, still filled with energy from being spoked.
“It's a hero move. Why didn’t you pursue it?” I knew he was faking being interested in the phone at this point. The screen was dark, but his eyes were glued to the screen.
“I got my license using only my coal quirk…but then I kind of got kidnapped, and then I just moved back in with my mother, didn’t leave the house for six months, and switched to an online university. Things just all changed after that. Just to do a painless summary.” I swallowed, trying to relax my shoulders. "Why'd you ask?"
“I would have given anything for a heroic quirk when I was younger.” He sat the phone down, closing his eyes.
“What, your quirk is so awesome. Like you literally saved my life multiple times. If younger you could see you now, he wouldn’t have any doubt that you are an amazing hero.” I got too loud, and I lowered my tone.
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll use my quirk to hurt you?” He grabbed the back of his neck and closed his eyes. He did that way to often... has he just been nervous the whole time?
“No. Why would you hurt me?” I blinked the sleep from my eyes and yawned. “Hitoshi Shinso, I am about to fall asleep in your bed, because I know you will protect me while I sleep. It’s very obvious to me that you are an amazing person.”
“Tolerable to amazing so quickly?” He smiled, genuine, bright, and oh so handsome. “You really believe all that stuff.”
“Of course I do.” I got comfortable and inhaled the aroma. “Good night.”
   “Night.”
Finally, at peace, I drifted off. There were no nightmares or underlining anxiety. It was just me in the middle of a prewarmed bed that made me want to sleep forever.
I dreamed of Shota, Hizashi, Hitoshi, mom, and I at a picnic on the beach. Hizashi had brought a watermelon, and we all took turns smashing it open and enjoying all the juices. Then Hitoshi, Hizashi, and I went swimming and found lots of seashells I could use to decorate the house for summer.
Hitoshi started to breathe jaggedly in my dreams and mumbled that he wasn’t a villain. I looked at his toned chest and felt my body being pulled up—mind swirling back to reality.
The dream was disrupted, and I saw Hitoshi crying. He was slumped backward, struggling in a nightmare. I had been tucked into the covers at some point and struggled to free my arms. He pulled his hair and tenses his feet. Once I was out of the cocoon, I tumbled to the floor and then grabbed Hitoshi’s hands.
“You’re safe. It’s okay.” I rubbed his knuckles, shaking him slightly. “Hitoshi, you are in your bedroom, and it’s a cold fall morning. There is an annoying girl in your room, and she wants you to relax.” He struggled against my grasp, but his eyes shot open, pushing forward and butting my forehead. Falling back on my ass, I rubbed my temple, mumbling.
“Shit,” he breathed heavily, pressing his hands to his face. “I’m sorry.” Catching his breath, he wiped his eyes quickly.
“Don’t be, it sounded like a rough nightmare.” Sighing, I knew what Dad would do in the situation. “Come on,” I tugged him from the chair and sat him on the bed. I got behind him and leaned him back, so he was resting on my chest. Running my fingers up and down his head, I hummed a gentle tune. “You can talk about it if you want.”
“I was bullied for my quirk when I was younger…even now sometimes.” He sat up, pulling the cover over both of us. His lips quivering with each word, as he gave up laying back on me. “I think I’m over it, but then it just comes back..”
“Sounds traumatic. Of course, it would haunt you, it probably didn’t help I hyped you up before you passed out.” I massaged his forehead, and neck, then upper arms. The pressure on my chest hurt, but he needed this. I had several days to heal up, it was just a slight twinge, but I wanted to do this.
“I just don’t know when I’ll be good enough for myself.” He growled, pulling his hair again. I grabbed his hands and laced our fingers, sliding him to the side so I could spoon him. “(Y/n).”
“You are a hero. Hitoshi, you proved everyone wrong. You did it.” I reaffirmed, snuggling his back. “That was all with your power.”
“Yea,” he swallowed, letting my hands go, and turning to face me. I wrapped arms back around him, clutching his shirt. “I never would have thought you’d be so clingy.”
“Are you trying to change the subject, or are you trying to get me to leave?” I raised my brow, but when his hand wrapped around my hips, I knew.
“Don’t go.” He looked so innocent, “I just never thought you'd do something like this for me."
“So from tolerable to desired. What a drastic change.” I pressed my forehead to him, just to comfort him in his time of need. Someone owed me a BFF award for this...
“It shocked me too, Kitten,” he yawned, eyes dropping, drifting off to sleep.
The whole point of my coming here was to feel safe, but I was the protector now. If being close meant I could guard his dreams even for a moment, I wanted to do that. Surely I owed him more then a couple. Even if this looked wrong, it felt right. Running my fingers through his hair, I too slowly drifted back off.
I heard a bunch of shutter sounds and feet bouncing around the room. Instead of getting up, I snuggled deeper into the bed, an arm wrapping tighter around my waist. More shutters and an ‘aww’ bounced off the walls.
“Mic, can you please just let her sleep.” Hitoshi pulled the cover over my head. Sitting up, he rested his hand on my back getting me a gentle pat.
“I’ve been caught. You two are just so cute.” Hizashi gushed, and I stirred up at his voice. Hitoshi’s hand kept me down, so I stayed put, yawning.
“Go get ready for work Mic,” Hitoshi mumbled, laying back down, tossing his arm around my shoulders. "We'll be there in a minute."
“But my babies-“ Hizashi’s quirk activated booming in the room. Hitoshi quickly shoved a pillow over my head. Mic continued to cry and babble about how cute we were, there was no use trying to sleep any longer.
“Hizashi, please calm down.” I freed myself from the pillows protecting me and yelled over him.
“You-“ Hizashi started, but then he blushed. I looked at my shirt, in the night, the string on my slip has snapped.
“We’ll be in there in five minutes,” Hitoshi promised and removed the pillow from his ears.
“It was a weird night. We didn’t go anything, pinkie promise.” I assured him and rubbed my neck. Of course, this old slip would give out when I was cuddling a dude.
“Okay, I’ll see you at the table.” He took a few more pictures and filed out of the room, shutting the door. Covering his eyes as he left.
Hitoshi stood up, stretching to the point his shirt rose up to show his stomach. He was so handsome...but the bed was colder without him. Instinctively I reach to pull him back down, but I stopped short.
He turned and quirked his brow, seeing my outstretched hand. I brought it back to my chest and looked at the window. “Thank you for last night.” He sat back on the bed and laid on top of the cover.
“Where did you learn to do that.” He hummed, stretching his limbs even again. We had been tangled like sardines.
“My boyfriend.” He stiffened, frozen to the spot. I twirled over and wrapped my finger’s in his hair. “I’m kidding, the look on your face, though." I giggled. "But I've been single since birth, which means I learned it all from my dad. He was a master cuddlier, he tended to me when I was a baby and never sat me down." I thought about stopping myself, but he has been open the night before. "I never knew what it meant to be touch starved till he died. Mom isn’t very big on being touched. So, I just take long showers and hug pillows and bears.” I let his hair go and held myself instinctively. “He was a lot like Hizashi, so bright and loud. The brightest soul in the room. If I could be half of that, I’d be the happiest person alive.” I grabbed a pillow and buried my head in the scent.
“We said, five minutes.” He pulled the pillow from between us, wrapped his arm around me, and guided my head on his chest. If I thought his pillows were nice, his actual body smelled intoxicating. I had been so consumed with comforting him last night I didn't notice. He was so warm and gentle, and the way he hummed so soothing. "But, I don't think Mic set a timer."
“This is so nice,” I purred, drifting off again. “Do you have to go to work, Hitoshi?” He ran his fingers under my dress and scratched my back in small circles. This was inappropriate. Maybe sexual. Indecent. and yet…. “A little lower, ahh, that’s the spot.”
“I have to go." He gently tapped my skin while ghosting his nails up and down.
“Can we do this again?” I propped myself up my chin, offering him puppy dog eyes.
“Whenever you want,” he patted my back a few times and got up. “Let’s get ready.”
“I don’t have anywhere to be?” I sat up and closed my eyes when he took his shirt off.
“We don’t think anyone else knows this location, but we need to be cautious.” Shinso was fumbling with a belt, and I tried not to think of him pulling on his pants.
“Is there a reason you’re changing in front of me?” I blurted, using a pillow to cover my face.
“I’m running late, thanks to you.” He pulled the pillow away and hovered inches from my lips. The space between us was shrinking. Of course, he looked so handsome in his bright purple scrubs.....
“What did you buckle?” Shinso pressed his forehead to mine and head-butted me gently.
“You really wanna know pervert?” He towered over me and lifted his shirt. There was his scarf wrapped around his waist and a holster with a small recording device. “It’s intel. You never know what someone might slip that you can catch on recording later.”
I poked his side, then curled my fingers around his scarf tugging. He didn't budge, and I nodded in thought. “Is that too tight? You might pass out if it’s constricting you, or bruise.” I tugged harder and he actually lost his balance. I took this opportunity to shove him to the floor. There I rested my knee on his chest and restricted his arms. “I did it.” Seeing him pinned fully was so satisfying. In an instant, he flipped me over and straddled my lap. “Aww, that’s so not cool.”
“You didn’t balance your stance.” Shinso let my wrists go, and I tried aimlessly to toss him off.
“I thought you were running late?” I gave up, out of breath and flushed.
“This is worth it.” He stood and pulled me up with him, he dusted off my back, and I knew it was his subtle form of gloating.
“So I can’t stay home today, what do I need to do?” We went into the kitchen and started to eat breakfast with Hizashi, who was on an important phone call with Shota.
“It would be dangerous for you to hang around the day care. I assumed you’d go to the radio station with Mic.” Shinso nudged my foot, and nodded towards Hizashi, he was starting to use his heated voice. A fight was about to break out….
“Hizashi, tell Shota I pinned Shinso this morning,” I hollered over the island separating the space. If they were about to fight, they needed to know we were in ear shot.
“I had you pinned.” Shinso shot back, munching into an apple.
“As if I let you.” I crossed my arms, and Shinso offered me a small thumbs-up under the table. Shota and Hizashi had been in turbulent water after Hisoka got sick. We had taken it upon ourselves to buy them enough time for Shota to return home and have a real conversation about their issues. So until then, we were staying around the phone and offering them distractions.
“I got to go, the kids are fighting. No. No, I do love you.” Hizashi hung up and paced back to the table. "Both of you look me." We sat to face him, and he cupped both of our faces. “ You both know I'm not going to get in your business. But are you two using protection? I can get you whatever you need. How long has this been going on?“
“Ahh, no nono-we ain’t. Not like that.” Blood rushed to my brain, and I ran my hands across the table to find a knife to cut out my ears. "That's so gross. The hokey pokey, no way." Shinso gripped my shoulder and looked a little hurt. Did he want me to play along? Would this help distract Hizashi from his fight with uncle Sho?
"Hizashi, nothing happened." Shinso keeps his gaze locked on me, the panic seeping out of me.
"I'm sorry I was so brash jus than. Hizashi, it's just not- not like that." I put my hand on Shinso's smiling.
Snap. “So cute, I'm glad it's just you two bonding. I'd support you no matter what, but I'm just glad you're not fighting anymore.” Hizashi had his phone out again and cooed. “Anyway, So (Y/n)’s going to work with me?”
“Actually, I want to go home.” I popped my fingers, going to the fridge. “Mom asked me to visit last week, and I haven’t had the time.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea today,” Hizashi smoothed his hair that was up in the air. “We’re all working and can’t go with you.”
“I want to go alone. To be honest, I haven’t had a second alone outside in months, which I am thankful for, it’s been scary. But I just want to blend in today and be normal.” I looked at myself, reflected in my water. “I’ve gotten braver than ever before, I want to make this trip. Superman could hide his identity with glasses, then so can I.” They neither one looked super convinced, but Hizashi finally nodded.
“We can’t stop you, so I’m going to encourage it.” Hizashi pushed his phone to me. “Take it and use it to call Shota if something happens.”
“Yes sir,” I nodded. “I’ll go get ready. Can one of you drop me off at the station?”
“Sure thing,” Hizashi offered a charming smile.
“Thank you.” I rushed off to get ready.
Filling a bag with my Shinso snack stash (he had made it a habit to bring me goodies when he came home from work), and a good book. Then I pulled on a grey hoodie and put my hair into a tight bun to mask all the curls. Once I looked as nondescript as I could, I rejoined the boys and hopped in the car with Hizashi.
Rock blasted through the speakers, and we both jammed out. Singing along and dancing in our seats. Hizashi and I vibed, and that was the best thing about living with Uncle Sho. I never would have met this fantastic person without moving into their house and getting to live out their closeted daydream. I wished they could be open and share their love with the family.
Hizashi turned the music off, and I nearly fainted. He never turned it down, let alone off. “Hey, (Y/n).”
“Yes,” I turned to observe him. His brow creased, and his lips went lax. Slowing down as we took a curve.
“Do you like Shinso? You two could hardly look at each other a month ago.” He gripped the wheel tighter and swallowed. "I mean, you like him, but is there something I should know?"
“I like him as a person. Like I told him, I rarely judge someone incorrectly on the first meeting.” Hizashi snickered, holding his voice down. “He’s a fine gentleman, with a smug attitude.”
“You were in bed with him.” Hizashi couldn't hold back, whacking the back of my seat.
“Shut up. I was afraid, and your door was locked.” The car hit a bump, and I nearly knocked my head against the windshield.
“I knew you two would be good for each other,” Hizashi patted my knee.
“You didn’t know me,” I argued, twisting the seat belt over my chest. "I mean, I just showed up and boom. An extra person to feed."
“From what Shota said, I knew you two would hit it off. I just didn’t see you hating his guts right off the bat.” Hizashi pulled into the station, turning the music back up.
“Well, he didn’t like me either. He was so rough and rude.” I unbuckled and wrapped my bag across my body. "I didn't think he'd change at all."
“You think so,” Hizashi smiled, patting my knee, “he’s been smitten from the start.”
“You’re a hopeless romantic, Hizashi.” I rolled my eyes, getting out of the car. “He barely tolerates me now. There is nothing between us.”
“(Y/n), you should reevaluate that statement.” Hizashi drove after me as I walked. “I love you, be safe and text me.”
   “I will.”
