the "americans will measure with anything except the metric system" joke is so baffling every time I see it. the premise seems to take as a given that people in other countries don't estimate distances or mass by comparing things to miscellaneous reference objects? and like surely "about the weight of a killer whale" isn't an american exclusive thing what are you talking about
