Absolutely! I've got two separate answers for you, depending on what your goal is here.

If your main goal is just to analyse Homestuck, then you’re probably best off picking a language whose syntax is easy to understand, such as Python. You'll pick up on the basic logic pretty quickly, and the ~ATH snippets will start to make a lot more sense.

If you’re actually interested in programming for its own sake, then I recommend you start with my own first language, C. It’s a lot harder for a newbie to get to grips with, but doing so will give you a much more solid theoretical foundation then ostensibly ‘easier’ languages.

W3schools is a decent starting resource for both languages - but if you need more specific guidance, let me know, and I'd be happy to help!

That certainly makes sense if we just look at John - but I have trouble reconciling this interpretation with our other Heir. Equius certainly has some advantages, but they aren't exactly unique to him, as you'd expect them to be if his Heir class was responsible for them.

Yes, he's a highblood, but he's outranked by three non-Heirs - and his strength doesn't seem to be unique either, as Feferi seems capable of similar feats. Perhaps Equius will trip and fall into more unique privilege, but it hasn't happened yet.

Oh god where do i even start. This is the part where i reflect on myself and do nothing about it afterwards.

In thems of topics, it's mostly just apex d2 and wf. I've never made my own world and characters because most ideas that i have the motivation to make into art comes from me playing the game. Maybe that's why I don't really treat a lot of my original character as "original characters", because they're still bound to a game instead of, you know, born out of the blue i guess.

I barely did render this year... I mean, not just this year of course. I think I slightly got the hang of it these two months? At least I kinda have a pipeline that I can follow and could tolerate / fix some of my mistakes in the later stages (e.g., picking wrong colors for flat color and wanna fix it during rendering etc.). It's... kinda like OOP? Decoupling code? I think it just comes down to opening a million layers and not feeling bad about it. Anyway I think one of my improvements comes from here.

Another improvement would be the speed of doing sketches and the complexity of the lineart I can handle (idk how to say that). I need to draw comics and there would be a lot of people in there, so even if I don't practice specifically I still need to draw some human figures. The complexity part is due to me getting into warframe just because of how fucking complicated they all are. Maybe instead of lineart complexity I should say I'm comfortable drawing somewhat complex characters now without my brain overloading and immediately giving up. Still haven't drawn BT though.

That's probably all the obvious improvements I can think of. I didn't read as many books as last year, but the two main books I read last year are for perspective and anatomy, which I do find very very useful. I still often go back to check some anatomy stuff this year, and with me spam drawing comics I think I can draw human figures better than before... if I only consider proportion that is. I think I have to redo anatomy all over again especially for the muscle part. Also probably should do more real human reference practice... Well, you can probably guess why I said that at the start.

I do think the reason why I do so little rendering is because I mostly do comics. Most of my ideas have a plot and my idea list is waaaaay too long to actually color the comics. And as I feel more comfortable drawing comics I fear more when I wanna do rendering because of the skill gap I have between the two subjects. Also most of you come for silly comics so why do I do full rendered pieces anyways... Yeah, after typing that sentence I do feel wrong thinking like that. But oh well, I guess I can't escape the curse of liking to see numbers go up.

Speaking of numbers, here's some of them. Good thing I don't have to deal with Tumblr API myself.

Collecting data regarding an entire population is just incomparable to an individual’s psychoanalysis. The latter may be more immediately useful, but it’s also not realistic treating it as a science until a better working model of the human brain is achieved. Until then, comparing various populations’ emotional and psychological reactions along sociological variables is the best system of data collection in this field.

This is a good ask and provides a convenient opportunity for me to summarize my views and then stop talking about it.

I think you are overstating your argument a bit here. I think dissing psychology/psychiatry in comparison to sociology is missing the mark - it's not like sociology is some shining standard of scientific investigation. We also can and do perform good studies on psychiatric interventions, and indeed, many of these studies have informed my skepticism of clinical psychiatry.

AI Customization: How I Dealt with a Stupid Youtube Feature

Youtube has a feature where, if you didn't finish your last video, it'll pop up in a miniplayer on your youtube homepage.

Personally, I hate this thing. I never use it. It just blocks the screen and means more button clicking. I emailed google months ago about it, asking them for an option to disable it, but no luck.

Today, annoyed again, I asked AI for help. It noted that there were some options in the youtube app to turn them off, but I'm just using the browser on my laptop, so that wouldn't help. It then linked to a firefox extension, but it only had like 5 reviews and seemed very sus. I didn't want to install it.

So, I asked chatgpt to help me create my own extension that would run on my laptop.

Now, I am not a computer coder. I can do some basic html, and that's about it. But after 10 minutes of back and forth, q and a, with the AI, I now have my own firefox extension that does exactly what I want: It blocks the miniplayer on the youtube homepage. It's perfect.

I think one of the things about AI that most people don't appreciate is how it will allow on-the-fly creation of customized coding solutions.

I think we're all used to having problems, and trying to find software that hopefully addresses our needs, and isn't too expensive or complex. But with AI today we don't need to find existing one-size-fits-all solutions and shoehorn them into our workflows. We are reaching a point where AI can just design our solutions on the spot. As another example, let's say you got some complex data to be analyzed. If the AI doesn't have the intrinsic ability to answer your data analysis questions, it can just code for programs that do. (This is, in fact, how some AI models work.)

Just like the internet lowered barriers to information access, AI is lowering barriers to intelligence and its products. When I was a kid, if you wanted to know about, say, the history of dandelions, you'd need to go to the library and prepare for a lot of research - and it probably wasn't something you'd just do randomly; today, you can jump down any ol data rabbit hole at 2am from your bed. Of course, libraries still exist, researching still exists, etc - but the internet made it so much easier, we can now indulge our every curiosity with ease. Similarly, AI will not just accelerate research, but will allow us in our daily lives to indulge in whatever intelligence endeavor we so desire.

p.s. AI is still a young field. It's still far from perfect. But it's improving at breakneck speed.

a long long time ago, around 2019, i created a character called Cairo Night. It was a cat, because i was into Warriors, inspired by my arrowhead necklace with cairo night stone. But then boom, remote lessons from home. I was very bored, so i discovered BFDI and other Object Shows like Inanimate Insanity, Open Source Objects, i think you got what i mean. It pushed me to develop my art, i have a plenty of fanarts and other stuff (even on my kinda troll twitter account, i mean i didn't delete this account because of one great artist: JamyTheJam. Inspiring person. Also if someone is wondering why i said i am pan, that was some time ago i am bi huhuh lol).

And that's how Nighty, my first real object show oc was born.

All mentioned artists inspired me to create PvO. It is one of my dreams to create that and not get censored for anything or thrown on yt kid$. But i also want to create what i my creativity would like to surprise me. Ah, it's more the lack of motivation and now the time that has made me do something about it only now... it's better than nothing.

Later, when i was in my second year of high school, i discovered Half Life series. Fantastic piece of art. And then... Team Fortress 2. But also past shaped me, so i am now a person who extremely doesn't trust others much. That's why i fell in love (again not human lol) with Hitman games series. Agent 47 is my comfort character, no matter how strange it may sound. I know he is a technically improved clone of man made as killing machine, now in WoA is like 60-70years old and is not John Wick. And i must point out, Hitman Blood Money and newest World of Assassination trilogy are definitely my favorite. About Absolution, it's generally a very good game with nice graphics, but this out-of-character 47 ah pain is... bad. It's not a good Hitman series game, but i enjoy playing Absolution and i reccomend, BUT NOT AS THE FIRST HITMAN GAME, NOOO. Try demo of WoA ;D

dang, Agent 47 has an intriguing psychological portrait. It's my knowledge of just official games series, excluding the most of Absolution's plot and of course completely excluding those two movies. In terms of how and where I get my ideas for what to write, I do have a few tips I can give you below the cut:

Consume a lot of the media for the fandom you are writing for:

This does go without saying, but having a general feel for the characters you are writing with is the most important factor to your pieces! Consuming their media (in this case, the comics) and analyzing their characters from your perspective, as well as the different story arcs they are entangled with, will already give you a slew of ideas: What if this happened differently? How would they react, if their moral code was changed? etc.

Usually, it is preferable that your knowledge of the character doesn't stem from consuming entirely fanon media, although there is also absolutely nothing wrong with that either!

2. A lot of reading, a lot of researching, and a ton more consuming of art in general:

In my spare time, I am someone who reads quite a lot. Whether it is comic books, classical literature, newspapers, etc.

Not only does consuming written media improve your own writing over time, it also introduces you to new stories and perspectives. A lot of my ideas actually come from stories I have found particularly charming and wanted to recreate with my own twist!

The same obviously also goes for stories in movies, art, music and anything else you interpret as art in general.

3. Find people to discuss your ideas with:

It is always refreshing to have a second mind look over your ideas and add on details or plotlines you might have not thought of yet.

Discussing your own ideas this way also helps you gain a deeper knowledge of the story you want to tell, as you have to explain it to someone else and unpack why you want to add certain things or change them.

There are obviously a ton more things I do during the process of coming up with an idea and converting it into an actual story, but my DMs are always open for you - and anyone else interested - to talk and discuss ideas you might want to write!

One is what you would expect. You can type english at it and it tries to write code for you. It's shit. It can't do anything subtle or complex. I suppose it might save typing if your code is boilerplate. But if you have that much boilerplate, you really need to generalize some code.

The other is an ML enhanced auto-complete. It analyzes your code as you type and tries to guess the rest of the line and the next line. It shows you that guess in faded text. If it's wrong, you just keep typing. if it's right or almost right, you hit tab and it fills in. It's actually really good. It saves typing, but it also saves having to look up how exactly a function is spelled, how exactly the arguments are named and ordered, and sometimes it guesses the error handling you were about to forget.

Both are technically Generative AI. Heck, they might be the *same* AI.

But the difference how it's presented. The first one is presenting itself as a replacement for the programmer. It's trying to write whole functional units, and you have to stop coding to go interact with it. When you use it, it feels like outsourcing the responsibility to another entity. So if it makes an error, you might miss it.

The second presents as a better version of a feature that's existed for decades. It does not replace the programmer, it accelerates and extends the programmer's own judgment.
