That massive pit in my stomach
Stress? Anxiety? Feelings of inadequacy? Shame? Anger? Fear? Murderous rage? All of the above?
They are all too familiar for me. However, this time it’s different. This time it isn’t my fault, nor is it my problem to immediately solve.
Sadly, it is going to take more efforts, and more compassion to resolve this problem. Plus it won’t get easier, first it will get harder, then increasingly difficult.
I miss the days like this when that pit in my stomach could be doused with a bottle or two of bourbon. If I did that today, I would most likely die from alcohol poisoning. Yes, I had to second guess and question myself if it would’ve been worth it.
In an odd course of events, I picked up two more projects today. Unfortunately, they are not any of the new construction currently underway. No, I get the shittiest of the shit, that nobody wants to do. In places that nobody wants to go.
I guess I should be happy, more projects means more money. Which in turn would theoretically mean that I could get out of my serious debt just before the country burns to the ground. So yay!!
I have yet to eat any food today. So maybe only one bottle will do the trick.

“Ruling rebukes order from White House that said passports must conform to the sex citizens were assigned at birth
“A federal judge in Boston has ruled that transgender and intersex people can obtain passports that align with their gender identity, in a rebuke to an executive order from the Trump administration that said passports must conform to the sex citizens were assigned at birth.
“US district judge Julia Kobick issued a preliminary injunction that expanded an earlier order she issued in April that had stopped the US state department from enforcing the policy in the case of six people, after finding the order was likely unconstitutional.
“The judge’s new order means that all trans citizens will be able to update their gender markers on their passports as the case against Donald Trump’s order proceeds.
“After the US president signed an executive order on the first day of his term in January, Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, the US state department announced that it would ‘no longer issue US passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs) with an X marker. We will only issue passports with an M or F sex marker that match the customer’s biological sex at birth.’
“The ruling applies only to those people who are currently without a valid passport, those whose passport is expiring within a year, and those who need to apply for a passport because theirs was lost or stolen or because they need to change their name or sex designation.
“‘While this is good news,’ the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said in a statement, ‘we will continue fighting until this executive order is blocked permanently.’
“Last month Kobick, who was appointed by Joe Biden, sided with the ACLU’s motion for a preliminary injunction, which stays the action while the lawsuit plays out. It requires the state department to allow six transgender and nonbinary people who are plaintiffs in the lawsuit to obtain passports with sex designations consistent with their gender identity.
“‘The Executive Order and the Passport Policy on their face classify passport applicants on the basis of sex and thus must be reviewed under intermediate judicial scrutiny,’ Kobick wrote. ‘That standard requires the government to demonstrate that its actions are substantially related to an important governmental interest. The government has failed to meet this standard.’
“In its lawsuit, the ACLU described how one woman had her passport returned with a male designation while others are too scared to submit their passports because they fear their applications might be suspended and their passports held by the state department. Another mailed in their passport on 9 January and requested a name change and to change their sex designation from male to female. That person was still waiting for their passport, the ACLU wrote in the lawsuit, and feared missing a family wedding and a botany conference this year.
“In response to the lawsuit, the Trump administration argued the passport policy change ‘does not violate the equal protection guarantees of the constitution.’ They also contended that the president has broad discretion in setting passport policy and that plaintiffs would not be harmed by the policy, since they are still free to travel abroad.”

A new travel ban by President Trump could soon bar Afghans and Pakistanis from entering the U.S., citing security and vetting risks. The move echoes his earlier ban on several Muslim-majority nations, previously overturned by Biden.
If enforced, it could leave thousands of Afghans—who worked for the U.S. and are at risk of Taliban retaliation—stranded despite undergoing rigorous screening. While officials push for exemptions, chances remain slim. With final recommendations due soon, the ban could reshape U.S. immigration policy once again.

All-New X-Men #7, where we see Scott's safety deposit box, which is full of fun little Easter eggs
What's circled in blue is the seal of Australia, easily recognizable by the kangaroo and emu:

Which means that that is, presumably, an Australian passport. But WHOSE Australian passport? Scott wasn't part of the X-Men during the Outback Era, and even if he had been, he wouldn't have been an Australian citizen.
Am I missing something or is this totally baffling??

I'm looking around at all the immigrants and naturalized citizens who voted republican because they're conservative, because they come from evangelical or catholic backgrounds and... How many of them routinely and unwittingly violate their oath of naturalization.
The biggest offender is blatantly taking advantage of their native citizenship to benefit from govt services not afforded to non residents. Part of naturalization is renouncing that birth citizenship.
For years, while trump was in office last time, my bank's website kept asking if I held dual citizenship. This is absolutely irrelevant to holding an account. That was ICE working through financial institutions to entrap immigrants.
The second biggest offender is participating in groups or organizations considered to be seditious or domestic terrorists by the FBI. Who decides which groups count? Guess! See if you can guess. Fun fact, the silly, goofy society for creative anachronism was investigated as such, years ago, and remains classified as the united states' largest (non hostile) civilian militia.

honestly the best thing I have figured out for how to live with the horrors is making plans. And not just making plans, or making a lot of plans, but, crucially, making plans of varied length. I try to always have something to look forward to in the short term (within the next week), the medium term (within the next couple of months) and long term (in a couple of years)
It means that when I am incapable of seeing beyond a few days, I can keep going for DnD on Saturday. When I can't deal with the monotony of daily life, I remember the cat I will adopt in five years. And that really, really helps keep my world open

as much as I appreciate the irony of me wanting whimsy in my life while simultaneously living in a house that according to every major mapping service does not exist, I would also like to get my mail, as a treat

So I was looking at what I need to do to get my tiny human a passport, and I discovered they're doing Special Passport Fairs in various locations for minors and first time applicants to ease the process. That page also links to their Passport Acceptance Facility Search Page for if they aren't having a fair near you or if you need to get started sooner.
Be safe out there <3

because i haven't seen anyone mention it here and it is a topic i have been worried about all day: a news website (that is decently reliable from what i can gather w cursory research) is saying that the whole "two immutable sexes on official documents" executive order will not be retroactive and will only come into play when renewing (including those of us with an X gender marker)
the article only mentions passports, so i am still unsure of how this will affect other documents. and as always, trump is not particularly known for doing what he says he will do or being stable, so this situation is still worth keeping an eye on (especially as i am finding limited reporting of this update)

Years and years ago I read an article that not only felt like it was describing everything wrong with me but included the memorable phrase "pants in the cookie drawer, cookies in the pants drawer," and I think about it at least once a week. In related news you'll never guess how I found my passport.
