“I missed you.”  Their wonderfully distracting boyfriend wraps his arms around their waist, pressing himself close to their back. Rooney resists the urge to lean back into him, crossing their arms over their chest. He places soft kisses along their jawline, Rooney letting out a contented hum. “I thought about you all day. Did you think about me?”

Yorinobu lays it on thick, clearly having thought about how the two would spend their evening. Unfortunately, duty calls for Rooney. In front of them is a pin board, notes connected with red string and written in Rooney’s indecipherable scrawl, a helpful way to visualize their case. They hope that it will lead them to revelation, a lead that might have been overlooked. “Yorinobu, I don’t have time for distractions right now.”

“Is that what I am? A distraction?” He asks playfully, pressing a kiss to the corner of their jaw, “You should teach me a lesson for being so distracting.” 

Dammit, it almost works on them. Under their tough, cold exterior, Rooney was a softie for the people they loved, especially Yorinobu, who seemed to delight in it. “Yori, you know I didn’t mean it like that; I really need to focus right now.” Rooney wants to get into whatever trouble he’s cooked up in his head, but their case needs to take priority.

“Understood,” He acquiesces with no hard feelings, “Please promise that you will make time for us tomorrow night. We need to go to the Flores’ party.”

Rooney nods, already having scheduled that as their night off. They would be there for him unless something truly urgent arises. “I promise; I’m all yours tomorrow.”

“Good.” He pulls away from them, Rooney already missing the warmth and comfort of his arms. Taking a few steps, Yorinobu turns to face them. “Rooney?”

“Yes?” Their arms drop to their sides as they face him.

“You have no understanding of how distracting I can be,” He teases, closing the gap between them. Yorinobu cups the back of their neck, pulling Rooney in for a deep kiss. They grab his vest, their head spinning, knees going slightly weak. He pulls away a few seconds later, leaving them desperately aching for more. Yorinobu turns his back to them, and as he leaves, Rooney watches him, wide-eyed with desire. They really wish they weren’t in the middle of a case.

Rooney should have known Yorinobu might be planning something when they were getting ready in the bathroom. In front of the mirror, Rooney ties their black tie, a gift from a client whose wife Rooney had found after the NCPD refused to investigate. Yorinobu joins them in the bathroom, leaning against the dark gray granite counter. His eyes closely watch the deft movements of their fingers as Rooney finishes with the tie, smoothing it down against their chest. Smirking, he leans closer, purring, “I love it when you wear a tie.”

They raise an eyebrow in curiosity. Yorinobu takes the tie in his hand, rubbing a thumb over the silky fabric. “Makes it easier to pull me to you,” He tugs the tie gently, pulling Rooney towards him, their faces only inches apart. Yorinobu’s eyes glance down at their lips, his stare lingering for a few seconds. He meets their eyes again, Rooney’s face feeling warm as they swallow in anticipation. “I can also tie you up with it while I am fu-.”

“Yorinobu!” Their tone is sharp, their cheeks burning. They weren’t against the idea, not really caring whether he tied them up or Rooney tied him up. (Rooney had no preference, enjoying both.) Rather, someone had to keep them on track to go to this party. “Please behave. We need to go to this party, remember?” His idea for tonight sounds much better than being around a bunch of woefully out-of-touch rich people. (Present company excluded.) But this would have to wait until after. “You and I can have fun after the party.”

He pouts playfully, letting go of their tie as Rooney smooths it down again. “Afterward.” Sounds like it could be a promise or a threat, and Rooney really hopes it’s the former. His smirk returns as he teases them, “I will have you dragging me home tonight.”

“Sure.” Rooney rolls their eyes, pretending his words have no effect on them.

“I will. I am distracting, and your restraint is not infinite.” He pulls away from them, pushing off the counter with a wink. Yorinobu leaves them alone in the bathroom as Rooney slowly blinks, their brain resetting. A second later, they urge themself to get it together, turning to face the mirror. In the soft golden glow of the bathroom lights, their face bright red, pupils wide.

Yorinobu’s flirty behavior continues as the night goes on, giving Rooney no reprieve. Whenever the two had a moment alone, he would flirt with them, dirty little things whispered in their ear. His hands would stray a little lower than they should, ghosting over Rooney’s body. With others, he is on his best behavior, but Rooney catches him with a smirk and a troublesome look in his eyes as if he is plotting his next move. Not that Rooney was complaining, but they were trying to be on their best behavior.

Rooney sighs, happy to have found some food, which would give them an excuse not to talk to people. Hiding in a corner out of sight, Rooney dips a strawberry into the chocolate fondue, taking a bite. Damn, that chocolate tasted good. (Although, they preferred the spicy kind that Yorinobu would bring back from occasional business trips. Rooney could never get enough of that stuff.) “Enjoying yourself?” Yorinobu asks, wrapping an arm around their waist as he pulls them into his side. Where had he come from? He eyes their plate, a mischievous smile on his face. Swallowing, they put down the half-eaten strawberry. What was he up to now? “Chocolate…maybe you could give me a taste.”

They freeze, narrowing their eyes suspiciously. “Yeah…,” Rooney responds, reaching for an uneaten strawberry on their plate.

Yorinobu grabs their wrist. “I asked you to give me a taste.”     

He lets go of their wrist, Rooney deciding to play along against their better judgment. Scooping some chocolate onto their index finger, they hold it out for him. Yorinobu takes their hand, bringing their finger up to his mouth. Sucking on their finger, his tongue swirls around their finger. His eyes never leave their eyes as Rooney’s mouth drops slightly in surprise. Their mind races with thoughts of where his mouth could be put to better use.

With a pop, Yorinobu pulls their finger from his mouth. “Delicious. Do you think I could have another taste? Or perhaps I could give you a taste of something else?” Their mouth drops further at the innuendo, the wheels in their mind spinning uselessly as they try to respond.

“Yorinobu-sama!” He looks over his shoulder, glaring at the person who called his name.

“I need to go,” Yorinobu whispers into their ear, “I hope that distracts you when talking to others.” He releases them, leaving Rooney alone as they try to process what the hell just happened.

Entering the fresh night air, Rooney breathes deeply, finding a secluded spot on the balcony, somewhere they could clear their head quietly. Yorinobu occupies their thoughts, their cheeks warming up again. What was he doing tonight? The couple both liked to flirt with each other, but Yorinobu seems desperate to prove something tonight. What it was, Rooney was unsure.

The door to the balcony opens, the sound of the party floating towards them. Turning around, Rooney jumps up on the railing, sitting on it as Yorinobu approaches them with a smile. “I thought I saw you come out here.” Anticipation rises in their chest as Rooney tucks a strand of dark red hair behind their ear.

“Just needed a breather.”

“Is that all?” He asks, his hands resting on their thighs.

Rooney nods. “Yeah,” they let out a sigh, “I have a lot on my mind right now.”

“What would that be?”

“Work. You know how I am.”

 “Anything else?” You, Rooney wants to answer, but they have a feeling that is the answer that Yorinobu is fishing for. Yet, they will not say anything until they get an answer. “If work is the only thing on your mind, I need to try harder.”

“What’s that suppo-?” He kisses them hungrily, pushing apart their legs. Yorinobu presses himself flush against Rooney, his hand coming to their waist steadying them. They wrap their legs around him tightly, eagerly returning the kiss. He tastes like the bubbly champagne served at the party with hints of chocolate. He feels so sturdy against them, so good against them. They grip onto his coat, intoxicated from his kiss. He sucks on their bottom lip, Rooney opening their mouth and allowing his tongue entrance. Rooney loses themself in the moment, the rest of the world disappearing around them. All that matters is Yorinobu. All they want is him.

“I know. I wanted to prove I could be too distracting, even for you.”

They laugh, shaking their head. He is so dorky, but Rooney loves that about him. Giving him a seductive smile, they lean up, mouth near his ear, teasing, “I think I need to drag you home. What was it you said? My restraint isn’t infinite.”

He shivers, excitement in his eyes as Rooney lets him go. Yorinobu helps them off the railing, grabbing their metal hand as soon as their feet touch the ground. He drags them behind him, racing for the AV. Oh, Rooney is looking forward to this.

Rooney and Yorinobu stumble out of the AV, hair disheveled and clothes slightly messed. Yorinobu’s maroon shirt is half untucked, while Rooney’s waistcoat had been unbuttoned during the ride. Neither could keep their hands off each other, Rooney diving on Yorinobu the moment the AV door closed. Hand in hand, the pair run down the stairs, from the AV landing pad, towards their apartment. The door slides open, Rooney pulling Yorinobu inside. Yorinobu lets go of their hand, grabbing their waist and spinning Rooney to face him. He kisses them again, Rooney wrapping their arms around his neck. He pushes them up against the wall, forcing his knee between their legs. A soft cry escapes their throat, Yorinobu placing greedy kisses on their neck. It drives them mad, Rooney tilting their head back, letting out a desperate, whine.

“Yori,” they plead, overstimulated, “Need you, please.” Rooney’s head swirls, need and desire clouding out any rational thought. All they can think about is Yorinobu underneath them, breathless, sweaty, and hungry for more. It’s what he deserves for torturing them all night.

Yorinobu watches them with eager eyes, swallowing hard as Rooney gets off him.

Long time no see friends and followers! It’s been a little bit since the last update, and I’ve been a little absent for some time - until my recent analysis. I honestly don’t have much of an excuse, except that real life gets in the way. Also, I'm just honestly bad at staying in contact. Many of my friends can testify to that (haha...sorry -.-). However, Thank you all for sticking around anyway! There are 421 of you guys now, and I'm so thankful for every single one of you!

A. As you may or may not have seen, I am working on my Frozen Canon Talk! Fourth Edition. Since the last version, my overall views on what's canon have become a lot more complex. I've been doing much more research and trying to figure out how to better label and organize all Frozen content. Below is a proof of concept for you guys.

B. For a while, I kept hinting at a theoretical Frozen Character Trivia post, where I basically go over all of the information we know about the Frozen characters (personality types, ages, birthdays, etc.) In the last update, I mentioned that I'm trying o figure out the best method to introduce it because I didn't want it to just be a rehash of what you would find in a fan Wiki. Being completely transparent - I still haven't got a clue. I've tested different ideas here on Tumblr, and the site honestly doesn't support anything creative without it going blurry. Thus, I'm still experimenting with different ideas, possibly going with PowerPoint (even though that's also a bit boring) but it may still take some time. Sorry about that.

C. Another thing I keep bringing up is the possibility of a Frozen Podcast. As said before, this is currently in development hell. I'm looking into the new Tumblr Post + subscription system - why? because If I have co-hosts and guests, I would have to pay them haha...ha...so anyway, if this doesn't work out, I may just do a solo podcast series on youtube.

D. So what's next on the analysis schedule? Good question. Obviously, A Polar Nights Review is long overdue so that's a given - expect it to come hopefully mid-October. After this, I will be updating Kingdom of Plenty to add Polar Nights additions - you can expect this sometime in early November.

I liked how easy it was to toggle between different accounts by simply clicking on the appropriate color-coded icon on the title bar area. For one, the centering your Gmail experience within a standalone desktop app eliminates the need to search for the correct Gmail tab among your zillions of Chrome tabs. I access a handful of Gmail email accounts for both work and personal use, and personally found Kiwi for Gmail quite useful for day-to-day use in its own minimalist way. No, I don’t! Vibes only. 😂😂😂 I don’t tend to set things in the real world, just Westerosi version of it so I feel like I have much freedom. I think the closest I came was I googled “common food in the sixties” and “spy gadgets” to write my Westeros If it was the Cold War AU. I may have to do some lite research because I’m working on a What if Beyond the Wall was Alaska in a Gold Rush AU. I tend to pick to write about things that I know a lot about…all the books referenced in a gentle madness are books I’ve liked and have read, for example. I draw a lot on research I’ve done for other reasons—there’s a lot of Irish/English history allusions in the lady is risen and I often think of the Lannisters like the Borgias or Sansa as Elizabeth I and draw on my knowledge to write. Who said getting a degree in history wasnt useful?!?

What time of day do you write?

My preference is first thing in the morning but with my schedule means that, in real life, sadly nighttime during the weeks and I am not at my best let me tell you. I also write by hand a lot at work during my lunch break (or, frankly, boring meetings) because I truly think my best thoughts early in the day.

Okay, I keep being told by multiple people that my smut fic which is literally dubcon about being a saltwife is my most romantic fic and I don’t know what that says about me. Hello! i saw your addition on that "switch to firefox because adblock will be banned in chrome" post and to me it seemed like a very knowledgeable reply so i thought you might be able to help me. You see: there's no way i can make firefox work on my laptop. I've installed all latest updates, i've updated my own laptop, i've run a deep antivirus scan (bc according to the net malwares are particularly malicious with firefox), i've deleted a fuckton of files to have more space available, i even tried this thing that said some users opened like twenty tabs in one window to overload the browser and then slowly close them one by one and that way it'll get used to work full force... all that to no avail, firefox keeps crashing or getting stuck on me 😭 do you know if this is a recurrent issue some users have or if it's probably a laptop problem?? (If you don't knkw the answer to this its okay, feel free to ignore;; )

I haven't seen your laptop so I couldn't confirm if I have suspicions regarding its condition, but I'd suggest starting with the usual basic checklist:

Restart your laptop. Start Firefox once you're booted into Windows. See if you can reproduce the issue more than once, and with nothing else running that you can recognize.

Check Windows' Event Scheduler and the Startup menu. Are things trying to connect while Firefox is running? Do you have anything that needs to boot up with Windows proper? Try turning off anything that's not important. The Event Scheduler requires some care, though - you don't want to kill Windows Update's own probe or impact other parts of your system. Specifically look for processes related to Firefox, and make sure you can at least make sense of a handful of the associated processes. They all come with a description, so it shouldn't be too hard.

In Firefox, click in the Adress bar and type "about:performance", minus the quotation marks. You'll reach the browser's own internal task manager, which isn't too different from Windows'. If something catches your eye, open a new tab and type "about:memory" in the bar. The third block from the left in the new window should be titled "Free memory". Click on its "Minimize memory usage" button, then check back on the Performance tab you've opened. You should also see changes in Windows' own Task Manager.

If nothing helps, you have to remember that Mozilla's stated 2 GBs of RAM as a minimum for Firefox is very conservative. If your laptop has 8 GBs of RAM or less, you might be due for an upgrade. Failing this, you can always check Mozilla's page for deprecated Firefox versions, especially Firefox 48, which was the first to enable multiprocess support, and the only version to allow users to disable it. Remember to disable automatic updates in the settings if you do use it, however. Make sure Firefox isn't allowed to check for updates, or that it at least lets you choose whether or not to install them. Then, load up "about:config" in a tab, and search for browser.tabs.remote.autostart . Double-click on it to disable it. This should kill Firefox's multiprocess mode.

At that point, however, you're better off either picking another browser (Brave is a decent Firefox clone) or changing your laptop altogether.

It used to be that 8 GBs was fine for clerical work and 16 GBs sort of stood as the gamer's expected bare minimum, but now we're running into situations where OEM laptop manufacturers squeak on by with rigs that can barely run Windows 10 that are being sold brand-new. 16 GBs is the new clerical minimum, in my experience, and 32 GBs serve enthusiasts, visual artists and videographers best.

If you can't afford a new rig and you've tried everything else, your last resort is to switch to a lightweight Linux distro, such as Lubuntu or Linux Lite. Both of them have cores that occupy barely 900 MBs, so even loading up the latest Firefox on there should feel like a breeze.

i thought i’d share/recommend some apps i use or have used in the past, so they might help someone else!

• class timetable - self explanatory, but you can also add tasks for any subject/category. you can colour code everything and add any extra info like teacher/room. it’s super easy to use, has a widget, and can have multiple weeks for people with longer schedules. i’m pretty sure the free version has nearly all of the features, but the one time payment for pro is 99p and gives you the option to set notifications and reminders for classes/tasks, which i got and don’t regret at all.

• flora - green focus - pretty much Forest but free. you set a length of time for anything you want to focus on - aside from studying i’ve used it for practising the piano and tidying my room - press start, and a little tree grows on the app. if you go on another app (for more than like 5 secs), you kill the tree :( you can then see all the plants you’ve grown each week. i generally like to use the app’s default 25 min focus/5 min break method, then take a longer break after 4 rounds, but it’s fully flexible. the app notifies you when your tree has grown and also when break time is over. you can also make a to do list and even connect with friends and see a feed of people’s focus times.

as i said there’s no cost, unless you choose to either: set a “price” for a session which you have to pay if you kill the tree; or subscribe to their real tree-planting service - working with a charity called Trees for the Future - which has 3 options, promising that every time you focus for a total of 48/24/8 hours (cheapest first) they plant a real tree. this is a monthly payment; i don’t subscribe so i can’t comment much on it.

Bulgaria brings a mentally reassuring anthem to Rotterdam 2021

I’ve said so that VICTORIA herself sort of agreed to have done “Tears Getting Sober” if she was allowed to, but for one I have to thank that EBU said that the artists can’t have their 2020 songs back? You’ll see why when I get to the review after two boring paragraphs of text with technical info, for the country that is Bulgaria!

ARTIST & ENTRY INFO

Victoria Georgieva (or VICTORIA, but I can’t be arsed to continuously capitalize her name so I’ll just say Victoria from now on) was born a singer, for she started to sing at the age 11, went to a specific school of angel voices (no really that’s what it was called), and tried to go to the X Factor while a liiiiiittle too young until realizing that she needed to wait for a few years, and wait a few years she did, and went on to the X Factor again.

She didn’t win, but she still got to sign a contract and sing some stuff in Bulgarian before she decided to rebrand, started singing in English, and completely decided that ballads is her style. She cannot really do upbeat most of the time. So you can’t really have a bop from her in the future. (Well except that there’s a couple of songs in her discography that I personally classify as “bops” but they’re more like... idek sad bops?? but they can be danced to, but I get her, she doesn’t do anything that’s more loud and upbeat and clubby and summery kind of - in short, nothing you can go “YAAASSSS QUEEEEEN” over to.)

The entry she ended up singing, “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, is what I can describe to be about overcoming the emotional twists and turns inside of you as you grow older, because as it turns out, it ain’t what you thought it would be - but if you push just a little further, you realize that if you’re growing up, maybe the life isn’t so bad, afterall - you are able to get up. Somehow. It was written as part of Boris-Milanov-led songwriting camp held during summer, and a lot of people seemed to be a part of it because multiple different folk have songwriting credits on the potential Bulgarian entries this year.

REVIEW

Let’s get this out of the way immediately. I prefer “Growing Up Is Getting Old” to “Tears Getting Sober”. The former sounds a lot less irritatingly underwhelming and a lot more positively overwhelming you with warm emotions and sunglow. “Tears Getting Sober” was a song I could never really connect with - maaaaybe the last chorus is much better on there, but it doesn’t do much for me either, I guess.

Their 2021 forray however is a much different kind of thing - once again, going for lyrical non-cliches, Victoria tells a tale about her inner turmoils and continuing in life, in a way that’s personal to her and also kind of relatable to all of us. We all have these moments of fear and anxiety and nervous systems aching. If only there was someone who’d tell us that we’re worth saving... thanks a lot Victoria, you’re the MVP. Filling in the void that Netherlands from last year had brought us but not anymore - another personal song about getting old and having those kind of feelings inside - and doing a great job at taking the baton in the right way (even with featuring the word “grow” in both of the titles, neat coincidence).

Not only the lyrics feel like a hug, the song just emulates ray of sunshine and golden glitter coming down from the sky, Molly Sanden style. The violins in the G major key playing so precisely, building up momentum throughout the entire song, slowly but surely - starting with the ticking clock in the first verse that may have subtle violin in there; and the first chorus is just so simple piano, and then the second chorus has a tinge of electronic something, and the last chorus goes full in with the backing vocals boosting the song, after Victoria performs the quite magnificent bridge... now I don’t have synesthesia but I associate music keys with colors, and to me G major would always come across as something yellow or orange - “Growing Up Is Getting Old” is a perfect example of why’s that for me. And obviously, Victoria’s love for harmony-humming (even if there’s just one instance of it after she sings “star crossed soul”) complements the song to a T.

And it turned out to be a much better choice than last year’s. Maybe finally a female ballad I am getting behind.

Now I wanna know why the bookies don’t appreciate THIS entry as much as last year?

Granted, now it’s 2021 and the environment is so much different, and the songs have changed, and the dynamics have changed, and now there’s suddenly more competition at stake. And for Bulgaria it fares quite much more underwhelmingly - well, at this moment they’re like 6th, which isn’t bad, but there’s a lack of sung praises coming its way, not quite a feat that “Tears Getting Sober” actually achieved, being the bookies fave right before the cancellation of last year. In general the year has been pretty dry for the previous winner picks like Iceland, Lithuania and this, but I can’t say that the previous winner bets from 2020 are all that dead either? Though I gotta say that Bulgaria wasn’t gonna win 2020 anyway, so it’s a lose-lose in this case.

Also I just can’t at that music video being a little dramatic at the beginning, with the cancellation of Eurovision being presented as if it were a worldwide disaster during which we all shall lock ourselves into bunkers and wait until the better days, eventhough the panini is not war and war supplies kit is not just enough to survive it. But it seems like that the world is quite literally falling apart, as evidenced by Victoria going through all kinds of pathways away from her living room, meeting a  (presumably) mini version of her somewhere in between, and literally surrounded by the shaking environment by the last moments of the song

before we realize it was just reality recursing from the TV’s point of view that Victoria was watching all along, and then she leaves the living room again, but in her world, everything is normal and she could just go wherever she wants by car. Even I can’t come up with a storyline ending that’s somewhat intertwined and all plot-twisty and more confusing than that. But props to her team I guess

Approval factor: Let’s say I somewhat approve this message. Follow-up factor: For the sake of argument let me just say that Bulgaria is moving on a great path, eventhough the former entry leaves me cold, at least the current entry keeps me warm at all times, like a cup of cocoa and a good blanket. Please Bulgaria, never run out of sponsors. Qualification factor: I’ve seen one or two people throw around the “surprise NQ” tag for this song and I don’t get why??? There’s no way that the tense atmosphere of semifinal 2 would sure-fire-ly kill Bulgaria, even if they have a lot less chances to win this year than they had the last one. There can be some shock NQs indeed though, and if there are, I am paging... uhhhhh Finland? Idk why but you might see what I mean if I ever get around to reviewing “Dark Side”. Bulgaria? Never. It may not win the semi but it will cradle around the top 7 somehow.

That’s right, Bulgaria managed to do both.

At the time when one other of Bulgaria’s songs got released, within the *Special* Eurovision September 1st-onwards range, people naturally succumbed to their primal instinct of asking whether that’s her Eurovision song... only for Vic to probably announce this early on that no, it’s just *one* of potential ESC entries she’s harbouring. And the remaining potential ones were all on her debut EP. Who actually got a more well-orchestrated schedule for everyone to follow, and yet, people were much more keen to cling on the first EP song out of the gate, “Imaginary Friend”. Now I get that the fans of that song were super upset at the revelation that IF is not going, but it is a technically strong song for the sake of being a technically strong song, and I don’t want to think that Victoria is only forced to choose the songs that can win for her, so she’s such a sweetheart for gravitating towards a song she could dearly care about. So props to her team saving the initial winner for last to be revealed, lol.
