as a possessive, jealous Eddie Diaz truther I actually thing the jealousy switcheroo in buddie is incredibly appropriate.
buck can have other male friends besides Eddie, and he's completely fine about it, cause he's sure of his place in bucks life. he know he's buck's best friend, and would never replace him. he knows that besides Maddie, and the kids (Chris and jee) he's the most important person in bucks life.
When is Eddie jealous? when bucks gets a new girlfriend, when he partners up with Taylor for the treasure hunt instead of him. We see him being actively hostile. Cause that's a position Eddie doesn't fill in bucks life, a romantic partner (even though he wants to), so he's unsure of himself.
When is buck jealous? when Eddie gets new friends, we already saw that with Lena Bosko in season 3, cause buck is insecure of his role in Eddie's life (in pretty much every single life of his friends and family), he fears abandonment. He fears that someone will take his place as best friend. But when Eddie is with Ana, buck is calm in my opinion, he's stressed just cause he can see that Eddie is not happy.
all these words just to say that Eddie Diaz knows he's in love with his best friend, he's known for a long time, that's why he's jealous when buck has a romantic partner. while buck still has his eyes covered to the truth, and in his mind what he and eddie have is a totally normal besties relationship. that's why he's jealous and anxious when Eddie gets a friend.

What if one day when Tommy's visiting the firehouse to see Buck, they get a call, and immediately Buck's just like "Hey, Cap! Can Tommy come out with us? Y'know we're a man down today [somebody called in sick] so we could use him!"
And Eddie's expression is just like NONONONONO-
And Bobby's just like, "Sure, grab some gear, Tommy!"
And Eddie's face is just like NONONONO
and Tommy sits in between Buck and Eddie in the truck, and Eddie's cramped up next to the window while he has to listen to Tommy and Buck flirt with each other
and Eddie's just IN HELL

Eddie jealous this. Eddie jealous that. Where's my jealous Buck?? I NEED IT so much you don't understand. I need jealous Buck in canon asap!
Eddie being flirted with or getting close to someone and Buck is like, seething. His jaw is clenched and he does that Death Stare that he did while he was punching the shit out of that punching bag. He looks at Eddie with hawk eyes, unmoving, just watching his body language.
And of course Buck being Buck, he does feel bad about it. He doesn't understand why he's suddenly so possessive over Eddie's friendship so he tries to be Normal but then whenever that person shows up it's like instinct by now to just Dislike them.
And where jealous Eddie is all snide/sassy comments and silent side eyes. Buck is very loud about it. He's more tactile with Eddie; arm on his shoulder/waist, hand at the small of his back, pulling him along with excuses about work or something and introducing himself like hey I'm buck and then completely ignoring the person while having important conversations with eddie (like about Their Son. who they are raising. Together. You know, normal friends stuff). You know, showing them who's more important. He also over praises Eddie to the point where the other person is like (uhhh are they... together) while eddie is extremely embarrassed and is quietly trying to make Buck stop.

I don't get how people are saying that Eddie's smile is purely happy here 😂? I guess I'm watching another show once again!
This is such a mixed, contradictory facial expression!
Sure, Eddie can't help but be amused at what a dumb coming out this is, probably is kinda pleased that Buck isn't stuck in the closet anymore...
But look at those gleaming, more-serious-than-happy eyes, the way the muscles around his eyes are quite still, not really relaxed and freely moving like they would be if he was just joyful? Really, try covering half of his face, and look at the eyes alone? That's rage!
And the way his smile is just a bit off, odd?
I'm getting a mix of amusement and irritation, I'm definitely tasting schadenfreude here.
Conclusion: Eddie is jealous - and attempting to appear unbothered.
Because that is a fucking smirk, it's not a smile!! Trust me, I'm so freaking familiar with this expression, I damn well recognise it! I've studied it from the best!!! (For the sadly clueless ones, That's Morgana from Merlin and she's a villain. And a smirker. Always smirking. Smirks galore!)

“Fuck’s your problem, Hagan?”
Billy cocks his head to the side with disinterest, eyes glazed over and red as he transparently sizes Tommy up. Lets his eyes wrack up and down his figure like he always seems to do when he’s around. Like he’s trying to figure something out.
Tommy huffs and shoves his hands into the pockets of his letterman, glancing briefly over at Munson on the other side of the campfire. Lounging in the dirt with his hair strewn messily across Steve’s lap.
“Yeah,” Eddie lilts. Shifts restlessly, stretching out like a bored cat until a hand cards into his hair. “This is kind of a private kickback.”
What he says earns a chuckle from Billy, but Steve is stone-faced. Staring up at Tommy with an unreadable expression that makes his skin start to crawl.
Just a ways behind the trio, the waves lap softly at the gravelly shore. Otherwise out of sight in the inky black darkness just beyond the reach of the light from the fire.
Tommy shifts his weight on his feet. Stares back at Steve.
They both know how fucked up this is. Granted, maybe Steve doesn’t see it as the flagrant mockery that it is, but instead an instance of moving on.
Beside Steve, Billy leans close. Pressed right up against him, like he’s trying to assume Steve’s perspective. To see what he sees. Think what he thinks.
Steve simply sighs.
“No idea what his problem is,” he says.
Tommy clenches his fists.
“Lover’s Lake?” he hisses.
On the ground, Steve rolls his eyes. Shoves his shoulder into Billy’s and stays leaned against him.
“He’s mad ‘cause this used to be our spot,” Steve murmurs.
This gets a rise out of Billy, who whistles as he loops an arm around Steve’s neck. Not yet connecting the full picture.
“Jealous, freckles?”
“Oh, he is,” Eddie chortles.
The two share a giggle, meanwhile Steve holds his stare.
There are words sitting on the air. Heavy and dark, billowing like the smoke between them. Steve was never very good at playing nice once he got a few puffs in.
Being under the influence makes him a real bitch.
“You should leave,” Steve says.
Plain and simple. The other two quiet down enough to turn their listening ears on, both looking up at Tommy with amusement, and it makes his skin burn with anger at the lack of understanding.
Tommy nods at Hargrove.
“I get him,” he says. Then gestures to Munson. “But this is a new low for you, isn’t it? I mean, you only keep him around for the free weed, right? That’s cold, even for you.”
Steve glares, removing his hand from Eddie’s hair and smoothing it down to rest over his collarbone.
“Funny,” Steve lilts.
“Shouldn’t you just take him about back and put him down? It’d be decent of you.”
“Oh, like I put you down?”
Tommy chuckles. Leans forward ever so slightly. Lowers his voice.
“Dead dogs don’t come crawling back.”
There’s nothing but the crackling from the fire and the distant sounds of the shore for a moment. Two moments.
Steve’s expression softens.
“Go home, Tommy.”
Now, there are no giggles, no smiles. Munson has a vacant look in his eye, and Billy braces himself to stand up. Ever ready to enforce Steve’s will at the drop of a hat.
Understanding.
Tommy holds his palms up in mock surrender, stepping back and spreading a smirk.
“I’ll go. Seems like you have loads to talk about.”
He can feel the burn of Steve’s glare on the back of his head after he turns to walk away, retreating into the darkness of the treeline.
Even after getting the last word, he knows that nothing he can say will cause enough upset to restore things to how they were. Can never subvert Steve enough to sow genuine disdain.
There are murmurs around the fire, soft-spoken words and kisses shared in the warmth. Gentle caresses and reassurances. Explanations.
They are a king, his knight, and his jester. Held up, safe and cozy within the sturdy walls of a castle, after all.
And Tommy is cold. Shivering as he treks back to his truck parked out by the road, hands shoved in his pockets, eyes misty with bitterness.
Knowing he never had a place at all.
