It would take Kirk a while to take them seriously because "Spock" swearing wasn't unusual.

I hated the overabundance of 'call me jim' in aos fanfics but the films are HILARIOUS about it #i'll still continue to dislike it in fanfics though because it makes no sense for either 5ym mission kirk or even aos kirk #the most hilarious thing about it is that it's literally not resolved #and even in their last scene ever spock calls him captain (and they're alone even)#i enjoy their friendship in my own way

Happy Amok Time Day, friendly reminder that Theodore Sturgeon, the writer of the episode, is credited with the first positive portrayal of homosexuality in science fiction with his short story The World Well Lost (1953), 14 years before Amok Time aired. Which could mean nothing.
